There were a lot of instances, really, that could be considered their "first kiss." A look at some moments that might, depending on your perspective, count as Jon and Martin's first kiss. For the Jonmartin week day 1 prompt "First Kiss" - Updates one chapter a day, every day of Jonmartin Week.
The eleventh and final chapter of what was supposed to be a seven-chapter fic is now up! Read below, or start from the beginning on AO3
Content warnings for this chapter include:
memory loss
references to past violence
John rubbed wearily at his eyes. The spreadsheet before him was beginning to blur, and he was painfully aware that he’d skipped his morning coffee. He checked the clock in the top corner of his screen. Almost time for lunch, anyway. Might as well head to the break room now.
He minimized Excel and got up. His joints ached today, the way they always did when he didn’t get enough sleep. The nightmares had been getting worse with the change of the seasons, the summer air stirring up — well, not old memories, nothing so helpful as that, but a vague and unmotivated sense of unease.
He paused outside the door to the break room when he heard voices from behind the door. That wouldn’t normally be enough to give him pause – there always seemed to be at least a few of his coworkers in the break room – but he thought he caught the sound of his own name.
“Have you guys gotten a chance to sign John’s card?” Trevor from Human Resources asked. “His birthday’s today.”
Oh, right. It was, wasn’t it?
A whole year.
“Oh, give it here,” Anne from accounting said. “Though I bet you anything it’s not his real birthday.”
John’s stomach gave a queasy lurch. He’d never told her that. How did she know?
John very much doubted it was his real birthday, but he had no way of being sure. He couldn’t remember a thing from before the Incident. Still, it had seemed appropriate enough. He’d been medically dead, according to the doctors, for at least a few minutes, so it was, if nothing else, the anniversary of a kind of rebirth.
“What do you mean?” asked a voice that John thought might have belonged to Tara from accounting, though it was hard to tell through the door.
“They’d have to change your birthday in Witness Protection, right?”
“Not this again,” Trevor sighed.
“Do we even have Witness Protection in England?” asked Probably-Tara. “I’ve only ever heard about it in American movies.”
“Maybe John’s American,” Anne suggested. “I’ve always said his accent sounds fake.”
A chorus of quiet chuckles rippled out from behind the door. John decided not to stop by the breakroom, in the end.
He may as well go out for lunch. It was his birthday, after all.
There was a bakery just down the street that sold good sandwiches and decent coffee, and he headed there. The sun blazed bright and beautiful in a cornflower-blue sky, bouncing off of windows, sidewalks, and the shoulders of pedestrians in cheery white-gold rays. John walked, and he soaked in the sunlight, and he thought.
A whole year.
There was a time he thought he’d never make it this far. When he’d woken up with no memories and no name – nothing but the clothes on his back and the knife sticking out of his chest – he couldn’t imagine making it to the end of the week. Now here he was, a year later, enjoying the little life he’d managed to scrounge for himself. It was not an impressive life by any stretch of the imagination, but he had a job and a flat and even a few friends, and none of those things had seemed likely a year ago. He thought, in spite of everything, that he was going to be okay.
There was something bitter to the anniversary, too. A full year had come and gone with no sign of recovering his memories, and John knew he’d have to accept that they simply weren’t coming back. He didn’t know how to process the loss, how to mourn his own life, how to come to terms with the fact that he didn’t even know his own name. (The hospital had labeled him a John Doe, and “John” had felt as right as any other name, so he’d kept it, but he wondered sometimes what his real name had been.) He didn’t even know where he was from – no missing persons report for someone matching his description had ever cropped up in London, so he suspected he might have been from out of town. Once he had tried to simply close his eyes and think of home to see if that brought anything back. He’d got a vague image in his head of a tiny cottage, and a fire in a grate, and something in the back of his mind had told him Scotland. But had just flicked past an old Hamish MacBeth rerun on the TV, so he couldn’t be sure he wasn’t influenced. He certainly didn’t sound Scottish.
Something flashed by in the corner of John’s eye, and he was shaken from his thoughts by a sudden bolt of terror. He froze, muscles stiffening, heart pounding so hard he couldn’t hear anything over the din of his own pulse. Slowly, he turned.
It was a mannequin in a shop window, and nothing more.
John shook himself. He hated when that happened. There were a number of memories, he’d learned, that his mind couldn't access but his body recalled instinctively, and nearly all of them seemed to send him into a panic. There must have been at least a dozen things he’d found so far that sent him into heat-stopping, pulse-jittering, fight-or-flight terror – spiders and clowns and confined spaces, worms and heights and anything touching the scar on his throat, and tape recorders, of all things.
Not all of them made him afraid, though. Some were stranger. He’d encounter some innocuous trigger – fog or tea or the smell of bergamot – and suddenly a hollow, empty pit would open up in his chest, and he’d ache. Sometimes a single tear would prick the corner of his eye, and on some rare and unpleasant occasions he’d find himself weeping – sobbing like an abandoned child over something or someone he knew only as an absence.
The bell jangled merrily, heedless of the turn of John’s thoughts, when he opened the bakery door. The woman behind the counter looked up at the sound, and flashed him a smile.
“Your usual?” she asked.
“Plus a small black coffee.”
He muttered a quiet thank you as she handed him his change and got started on his order. He’d beaten the lunch rush today, and there were no other customers in the store, so she chatted while she poured the coffee.
“Beautiful day, isn’t it?”
“Yes,” he agreed. “I was thinking I might take my lunch over to the park and eat outside today.”
“I’ll pack the sandwich to-go, then.”
A few minutes later, John walked out of the bakery with a cup of coffee in hand and a brown bag tucked under his arm. It was, in fact, a beautiful day – the sky was bright and cloudless, and the air was warmer than it should have been this early in spring, but every now and then a chill breeze would stir into life with a reminder of the recent frost.
When he got to the park, he grabbed a seat at his favorite bench, the one beside the linden tree that had a good view of the duck pond, and unwrapped his sandwich. He took in the park while he ate. Sunlight dappled the pond in flecks of gold. A young couple pushed a stroller over the footpath. A pair of ducks cruised the edge of the pond, waiting for someone to toss some bread their way. A tall man in a sweater stood at the waters’ edge and stared contemplatively into the shallows. A jogger ran past, tugged along by an excitable border collie.
John froze. That familiar feeling washed over him, that he had seen something he ought to recognize but didn’t. It didn’t come with fear this time, or even sadness. He couldn’t exactly say what the emotion was that threatened to swallow him whole – it was too large to hold in his head. He held his breath, and waited.
The man at the edge of the pond turned his head. He was tall and fat, and wearing a blue cable-knit sweater that looked a bit too thick to be comfortable on such an unseasonably warm day, and he was stunning. His lips parted with shock when he caught John’s eye.
“Jon?” the man asked, and something within Jon clicked. Yes, that was his name, that had always been his name.
“Martin?”
He hadn’t known what he was going to say before he said it, but he knew, as soon as the word escaped his lips, that it was right. This was Martin. He couldn’t say who or what Martin was, but he was Martin, and that was the most important thing in the world.
One moment they were staring, frozen, and the next they were in motion. Jon rose from the bench, lunch abandoned, and Martin closed the distance between them in a few long strides. They collided with such force it nearly knocked the air from Jon’s lungs, but he didn’t care. He clung to the man in front of him with all his strength. Martin wrapped his arms around Jon, pressing him to his chest like he wanted to shove Jon into his ribcage and keep him next to his heart forever. Jon couldn’t say he’d mind.
Eventually, they pulled apart just enough to look each other in the eyes. Jon still clutched at Martin, gripping his arms tightly for fear he would disappear if Jon let go. At some point, Martin had begun to cry, and Jon reached up to brush his tears away. Martin studied his face.
“Jon,” he said again, voice breathless with disbelief.
“Martin,” Jon repeated, because it was the only thing he could really be sure of.
Well. Not the only thing.
“I love you,” he whispered, because he did. He was certain of that, even if he still wasn’t entirely certain who he was – who either of them were.
Martin shut his eyes against more tears, and nodded. His voice was hoarse when he whispered, “I never thought I’d see you again.”
Jon didn’t think about what he did next. His body moved with practiced ease, tugging at Martin’s collar like it was the most natural thing in the world, pulling his face down to meet his, bringing their lips together.
It all came back to him in flashes. The Fears, the Institute, the end of the world. Sasha, Tim, Georgie, Basira, Martin – Martin in the Lonely, Martin in the safehouse, Martin in the Panopticon. The plan. The knife.
He tightened his grip on Martin, clutching tight fistfuls of his sweater. The weight of the past year settled on his shoulders, and he realized how desperately he had missed him in that time. A soft whimpering noise escaped Martin’s throat, and Jon hesitated, but Martin only pressed deeper into the kiss, warm, chapped lips burning against Jon’s skin with open desperation.
There was a quiet splash, followed by an indignant quack, and they both returned to the present at the same time. They were in public, Jon remembered with a jolt. They were, in fact, kissing and crying and trying to crawl down each other’s throats in the middle of a crowded park.
Jon pulled away, reluctant. He huffed a self-conscious laugh.
“Well.”
Martin laughed as well. “Yeah.”
Jon glanced at his watch. “I’m– I-I’m actually supposed to be back at work soon,” he said. “But I think, given the circumstances, I might have to take the rest of the day off.”
Martin smiled. How had Jon gone an entire year without that smile?
“M-Maybe we could head back to mine?” Jon suggested. “We– I mean, w-we’ve got a lot of catching up to do.”
The smile widened. “Yeah,” Martin said in a fond, familiar murmur, “I’d like that.”

Issue #71: We follow team one as they head to rural texas, hunting down the ring of volthoom. They can sense it's evil emanations, even miles away. But while hunting for the ring, they end up instead falling into a trap designed by Jerome Spiegelman, the man who created William Nielsen. When last we saw him, he had gotten his brain trapped in the body of a coyote (after having previously tried to take his brain out of his 95 year old body and transfer it into william nielsen). But in the year or two since then, he's managed to find work arounds.
More specifically, jerome ran into a weirdo seeking to evolve animals so they could be as intelligent as humans. He kidnapped jerome's body and conducted strange experiments on it. And by the time he was done, jerome was still in coyote form, but he could move and talk like a man again! So he killed the man who experimented on him and began building a ray to reverse the process (and turn humans into animals).
Knowing his old creation william nielsen is a member of the Justice League Canada, jerome tries to bait the league into coming to his hidden lab in texas. He's hoping that this will afford him a chance to get revenge on william. But then he discovers that the league members he captured are neither willian or willow, the two he wanted. But in a fit of pure rage, he turns his animal ray on them anyways. Guy Gardner becomes a porcupine, Blue Beetle becomes a real beetle, Booster Gold becomes a rattlesnake and The Question becomes a scorpion.
Meanwhile (while half the league is turned into animals), the ring of volthoom has found it's newest host: one jessica cruz, of houston, texas.
1. Green Lantern III (Guy Gardner)
2. Booster Gold (Michael Jon Carter)
3. Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
4. The Question (Vic Sage)
Issue #72: We follow team two as they head to mount olympus, to barter for johnny quick's life. Guided by our special guest JSA member; Jay Garrick, a man who actually is descended from the greek god hermes. He leads them to seek a parlance with the twelve main olympians. The meeting is tense, primarily because Jemm and Nubia believe in the roman gods and don't have any real trust or faith in most of the greek ones.
So it's up to Sam and Jay to convince the Olympians to listen to their pleas. These two old men (who also happen to be demigods) have to persuade zeus and the other gods to trust them. Jay and Sam manage to convince their godly parents (poseidon and hermes) to help them out, but then the task remains to persuade at least half of the rest of the council.
William ends up meeting Hephaestus in his forges, and the two strike up a beautiful friendship. Hephaestus and this sentient android manage to identify with each other, and a kinship bond is established. Meanwhile, Willow meets Apollo. And after some awkward first moments where apollo seems to flirt with her, it becomes clear that Apollo knows that Willow was originally Mantis, from the DC universe. He knows of her dimensional travels, and he knows just how important she is to the fabric of reality.
Despite Nubia being raised by Mars, she is still an amazon princess, and the amazons were the blessed warriors of aphrodite, artemis and athena. So Nubia is able to appeal to them, and their sense of duty to their chosen ones. And finally, Aqsarniit has a heart to heart with Zeus, discussing how they both know all too intimately about the skies. Aqsarniit is the personification of the northern lights, zeus is god of the skies. They have a bond. And lord zeus: we in the league need your help. With Kronos/Saturn and Gaea/Terra teaming up and Johnny Quick dying, we need your aid.
So after many fascinating conversations between the league members and the olympians, we find that the olympian council has given assent to the league (everyone except ares has given their blessing); that they may expect a cure for Johnny Quick and the gods aid in the battles to come. And on that note, the justice league leaves mount olympus. But on the way down, willow gets a premonition that their fellow league members in texas are in danger!
So the team splits up, yet again. The league members will head to texas to save their teammates. Meanwhile, Jay Garrick will gather some of the Justice Society members and head for ottawa with johnny quick's cure. And that story would be covered in a tie-in jsa comic book.
1. Jemm, Son of Saturn
2. William Nielsen
3. Willow/Mantis
4. The Admiral (Sam Heartsea)
5. Nubia of Themyscira
6. Aqsarniit
7. The Flash I (Jay Garrick)
Issue #73: The members of the league who were in olympus now head to rural texas to save their fellow heroes from Jerome Spiegelman. Or well, they don't know it's Jerome Spiegelman's doing yet. But they will soon. They will soon.
But this issue would feature two concurrent stories: the story of Jessica Cruz and the ring of volthoom (as told by traumatic flashbacks to jessica's life), and the story of the Justice League stopping Jerome Spiegelman from trying to turn every human in the United States into an animal.
When William Nielsen figures out that Jerome is the one behind this, he snaps. Jerome may have built him, but he also nearly ruined his life. He should've stayed dead, like his body did! Willow holds William back, trying to explain to him that she's been down this road of anger before and it's never solved anything. You need to stop, focus and relax. Before you lose yourself to the anger and the fire deep within.
But eventually, Jemm, Nubia, Sam and the other leaguers manage to reverse Jerome's transformation ray, and they turn it back on jerome, leaving him trapped in the body of a coyote once more. Then william gets one chance to strike back, and he does so in a way that finally allows him to release all the violence he's had burning up inside of him all this time. He kicks the coyote, and sends it flying miles away. Then the leaguers head home, to see if the JSA managed to save johnny quick.
But in one last epilogue: Jessica Cruz accepts the Power Ring. And just as she accepts it, a coyote falls into her lap. Before she has any chance of figuring out what's going on, a deep, resonant voice speaks to her. The voice of Saturn…
1. Jemm, Son of Saturn
2. The Question (Vic Sage)
3. William Nielsen
4. Willow/Mantis
5. The Admiral (Sam Heartsea)
6. Booster Gold (Michael Jon Carter)
7. Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
8. Nubia of Themyscira
9. Green Lantern III (Guy Gardner)
10. Aqsarniit
Justice Society #63: In a tie-in with Justice League Canada #73, the Justice Society of America head to Ottawa to administer the cure to Johnny Quick and save his life. But while attempting to get into the building, they discover a bunch of high tech crooks trying to break into the building.
Realizing they're gonna have to split up, the team splits into two groups of four. Group One (The Atom, Red Tornado, Black Canary and Wildcat) work to stop the thieves from breaking into the Justice League's Ottawa Headquarters. Meanwhile, Group Two (The Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman and Doctor Mid-Nite) have to successfully evade the security traps the justice league set up, and complete the operation on johnny quick in time for him to live.
Thankfully, both teams do their jobs to perfection. And by the time the Justice League Canada returns from their mission in Texas, they find johnny quick and power ring both recovering wonderfully, all thanks to the aid of the JSA!

Dark thing to say, but Ned dying when he did was a mercy, because you KNOW he was gonna be on an adoption spree the more he travelled throughout Westeros.
Gendry? Well if the Baratheons don't want him, he certainly would.
Shireen? Clearly Stannis is going through a messy divorce, so to ease some things, what's one more princess under his roof? Davos too while he's at it. Yes he's a grown man, but do you honestly think it's humane to seperate the two?
Myrcella and Tommen? I mean he was willing to go the hard way when he found out their true parentage, so obviously he wouldn't say no to raising them too.
Joffrey......
Sam? Need I say more? Plus Gilly. Two for the price of one.
Yes, there is a joke in there about 90% of these being of Baratheon heritage but I can't come up with it right now.
Ned does not have a good track record at not adopting children. First he decides hes going to bring baby Jon home and adopt him, then he gets Theon who no matter how complicated it is, raised Theon enough to the point in book and show Theon wishes he could've been a real Stark like the rest of them.
He alraedy showed interest in letting Gendry into his life, telling Tobho Mott that if Gendry ever decides he wants to yeild a sword instead of forging one, to send Gendry to him personally. He would've 100% taken him under his wing.
Shireen and Davos are a package deal, you buy one and get the other for free. I've also always said Ned is actually a girl dad, so he 100% would end up being so fond of her and how sweet but hilariously snarky and stern she is. She'd fit right in.
If there was no other option, he knows Tommen and Myrcella are good kids, he wouldn't turn them away if he was their only safe option. Joffery? Well Ned gave up on Joffery that night in the Crossorads Inn, so he's on his own.
Sam is Jons best friend which means hes like family in Neds book, and Gilly is like Shireen, sweet but surprising in when she stands her ground.
If there was a world record for pesudo adopting the most kids, best bet if Ned lived he would've speed run to win the gold.

TOP 10 MOVIES OF 2024 (SO FAR)
Honourable Mentions:
SOMEONE LIVES HERE
This one’s only an hour long but it delivers a powerful and frustrating documentary of a man trying to create homes for the unhoused.
Carpenter Khaleel Seivwright devotes his time to making small mobile shacks for the unhoused to live in, but he’s constantly undermined by Toronto city council that couldn’t care less about providing affordable housing.
It is maddening portrayal of shallow politicians that punishes those who try to help while offering no real solutions. There’s also hope in seeing a man go out of his way to help those in need.
10) ORIGIN
Real-life non-fiction author Isabel Wilkerson (Anjanae Ellis-Taylor) examines how social hierarchies are enforced in Origin, a compelling biopic about the making of Wilkerson’s acclaimed book Caste.
Drawing from the tragic killing of Trayvon Martin, both Wilkerson and writer/director Ava DuVernay introduces us to a series of real-life stories of oppression and defiance to showcase how systems are used to oppress marginalized groups. Among these stories are a German (Finn Wittrock) who refused to salute Hitler after falling for a Jewish girl, revelation of how America’s Jim Crow Laws inspired the holocaust and Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (Gaurav J. Pathania) who defied his status as an “untouchable to draft India’s constitution. There are many uncomfortable scenes of innocent people being denied their basic humanity, especially one where a black boy is denied the use of the same pool as his teammates.
Origin is also a love story of Isabel grieving the loss of her husband (Jon Bernthal playing against type) as she continues her project. Bernthal shows his sweeter, sensitive side through flashbacks scenes with Ellis-Taylor. Ellis-Taylor also breaks your heart as Isabel mourns her loss.
This film a compelling drama that calls for recognizing other people’s humanity.
9) ROBOT DREAMS
Robot Dreams is one film nominated last year for Best Animated Feature hardly anyone got a chance to see. Now that it was release in select theatres, audience can see a beautiful tale of loneliness, friendship and drifting apart.
Based on the graphic novel by Sara Varon, Robot Dreams takes us into a 1980s New York full of anthropomorphic animals. A lonely Dog builds a robot friend, and they form a quick bond. It cultivates in an iconic early scene where they roller skate to the tune of Earth Wind and Fire’s “September”.
Writer/Director Pablo Berger makes us happy to see Robot and Dog together without one line of dialogue. It makes it more heartbreaking when Robot is left immobile and stranded on a closed beach and Dog is forced to wait half a year. Robot is left to dream about returning home to his only friend.
Writer/Director Pablo Berger proves himself a Master of Visual storytelling, getting a lot across without a single line of dialogue. It helps he has some top-notch animators communicate character’s thoughts and feelings through facial expressions. That animation also makes the background environment look beautiful, even though it’s portraying a grainy side of New York.
Berger balances style and substance for a visually pleasing but heartbreaking journey.
8) HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS
There are so many elements of this film that shouldn’t work. The film is a series of segments with very little connection between them. The special effects are extremely unconvincing with fake looking set pieces and awkward physics. All the animals are people in mascot costumes. These should be a put off for the average moviegoer. And yet director Mike Cheslik makes all those work to his advantage with Hundreds of Beavers, a cartoonish tribute to silent films and Looney Tunes.
Set in a winter wonderland of fur traders and gold prospectors, we follow Jean Kayak (Ryland Brickson Cole Tews), an alcoholic Applejack farmer who finds himself out of the job thanks to beavers. Now he finds himself trying to survive in the wilderness with many disastrous results. But he learns to survive with the guidance of a veteran fur trader (Wes Tank) and an Indigenous trapper (Luis Rico). But to earn the hand of a Furrier (Olivia Graves), he must get hundreds of furs for her merchant father (Doug Mancheski). This leads him to a one-man war with the titular beavers.
Cheslick delivers one side-splitting scene after another of Kayak’s disastrous attempts to trap prey, which often leaves him falling through rabbit holes. The fake looking special effects only add to the cartoonish tone, especially in one scene involving him in a log rolling war against a beaver. He also makes jokes that couldn’t get away with in the silent era including a reoccurring gag with trappers using very cartoon looking poo as beaver bait or Jean trying to trap rabbits with a female snow bunny only for it to be revealed the rabbits are gay.
The film doesn’t flow as much without a clear plot and the jokes don’t always knock it out of the park. But for most part, Hundreds of Beavers is a laugh riot.
7) FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA
It’s a shame George Miller’s prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga bombed at the box office because it has the kind of grand set pieces and thrilling car chases that deserve to be seen in a theatre. this compelling post-apocalyptic flick about the titular warrior (Alyla Browne as a child, Anya Taylor-Joy as an adult) seeking vengeance on the chaotic Dr. Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) compliments its predecessor Mad Max: Fury Road with the mind-blowing action scenes, creative visuals and social commentary that made the earlier film such a modern classic.
Both Furiosa and Fury Road should be uses as examples on how tell story through action scenes. Except for the franchises’ trademark opening and closing voice over monologues, Miller avoids exposition in favour of using the extended action scenes to reveal character, show the world’s rules and further the plot. This demonstrates a lot of trust in the audience to figure out the world through image alone, especially when he has only one short scene to show us the green world Furiosa grew up in. Then again, he’s such a master filmmaker that he can reveal so much information just from a single shot.
It’s worth noting that Furiosa’s more story oriented than Fury Road, focusing on the tragedy of the life Furiosa’s lost, especially her mother. Also, you must admire Miller for daring to spend an hour on Furiosa as a child. Of course, it helps that he has Hemsworth having a blast hamming up every scene.
It doesn’t quite reach the level of Fury Road and the CGI isn’t quite as convincing as the original movie. But Miller still delivers an exciting thrill ride worthy of the iconic franchise.
6) AMERICAN FICTION
Frustrated with his work not getting published, surly literary professor Thelonius “Monk” Ellison (Jeffery Wright) decides to make a racially stereotypical “memoir” under the guise of gangster “Stagg R. Lee” in the scathing satire American Fiction.
Cord Jefferson deserves his Oscar win for his screenplay. From the opening scene of Monk arguing with a white student over him writing the N-word on a whiteboard (referring to the title of a short story), He delivers an amusing commentary about modern racism. At the film’s core, Jefferson goes after the media representation that puts Black America in a box of Black Oppression Porn under the guise of “being real.” While Monk can’t get his books on Greek mythology published but much to his chagrin, author Sinatrara Golden (Issa Rae) writes a bestselling novel “We’s Lives in Da Ghetto” full of racially stereotypical dialogue. Monk’s publishing agent sums it up when he states “White people think they want the truth, but they don’t. They want to be absolved.” In one funny scene, he berates a bookstore for putting his book in “African American Studies” when it’s about Greek Mythology (“The blackest thing in this book is the ink”)
American Fiction is also dramedy about Monk being forced to return to his family home and confront his complicated relationship with his family when his sister (Tracee Ellis Ross) passes away and he’s forced to care for their mother (Leslie Uggams). It’s here that he’s reconciles with his chaotic brother Clifford (scene-stealing Sterling K. Brown) and finds love with a new resident Coraline (Erika Alexander). Jefferson proves just as effective with family dramedy as he is with satire, balancing the comedic moments of Clifford berating a local for interrupting his sister’s memorial with the heavy moments of their mother’s struggles with Alzheimer’s.
Jefferson also deserves kudos for creating complex characters. While his frustrations with the popularity of oppression porn is understandable, Monk often comes off as a judgmental snob. He remains likeable thanks to Wright’s charismatic performance. Clifford seems high on life (and cocaine), but he hides the hurt of his mother not accepting his homosexuality. Brown gets to shine in a monologue about Clifford’s dad not knowing his true self.
Jefferson is a filmmaker worth looking into.
5) CHALLENGERS
Luca Guadagnino brings us another entry to a unique subgenre of erotic films about a love triangle between two male best friends and a woman. This time, it’s between three up and coming tennis players.
The film starts years later with former tennis star Tashi (Zendaya) serving as coach for her husband Art (Mike Faist) who’s struggling to break out of a losing streak. Meanwhile, their ex-friend Patrick (Josh O’Connor) is sleeping in his van while awaiting the upcoming tournament. It’s this tournament that this trio is forced to confront their relationships.
Through flashbacks, Guadagnino and writer Justin Kuritzkes reveal how they got here her from being a trio of promising players. They introduce little details like a scar on Tashi’s knee and a tennis pose Art and Patrick use to indicate who had sex with Tashi. From these details, Guadagnion and Kuritzkes reminds us of the curveballs life can throw at us and how the characters adapt to them (or don’t).
Zendaya, Faist and O’Connor have excellent chemistry, seductively bouncing off each other. They also masterfully handle the complicated turns their characters take in reconciling their feelings for each other.
Challengers delivers a sensual character study of three athletes with feelings for each other.
4) CIVIL WAR
Civil War follows disillusioned photojournalist Lee (Kirsten Dunst) as she joins 2 journalists (Wagner Moura and Stephen McKinley-Henderson) and an enthusiastic young up and coming photographer (Cailee Spaeny) on a road trip across the United States as a rebel militia battles the president of the United States.
Writer/Director Alex Garland keeps the audience hooked from beginning to end as he puts our heroes in one dangerous scenario after another from a sniper battle at a Santa Village to the climactic battle at the White House. The most iconic is an intense standoff with the scene stealing Jesse Plemons as a sociopathic militia.
Garland makes the bold move of not revealing what caused the war in the first place. You can figure it out through the subtle hints including the President being on his 4th term the fact Texas and California have seceded from the country. This choice works to put the audience in the perspective of a photojournalist, who are expected to be an inactive witness so they can present events factually. But the film shows how challenging that is when it involves witnessing horrifying moments of a man being set on fire and putting their lives in danger. You see this in Dunst’s performance, who conveys her character’s exhausted weariness through her face.
Alex Garland gives us an action-packed thriller cultivating with an exciting shootout.
3) PERFECT DAYS
It’s one hell of challenge to create an engaging film with no conflict. That’s what makes Wim Wenders’ Perfect Days such a miracle. The beloved director defies basic film convention to create a meditative look in the life of Hirayama (Koji Yakusho), a custodian who cleans publish washroom in Tokyo.
Perfect Days has no true storyline. The closest thing to a plot happens when Hirayama’s niece shows up out of nowhere to stay with him but that happens way late in the film and gets resolved quickly. For the most part, Wenders focuses on the Hirayama’s routine days both at work and his personal life. It sounds like a boring movie, but Wenders uses those routines to create a sense of rhythm. It’s strange how reassuring to see Hirayama drinking a can of coffee every morning, sitting at a park bench for lunch and listen to his cassettes. That makes the breaks from routines more engaging, especially when Hirayama plays tic tac toe with a stranger.
At the core is Hirayama’s appreciation of the little things in life. You can appreciate how director of photography Franz Lustig makes Tokyo look so beautiful, even while Hirayama is cleaning toilets. Lustig also gets to shine in the brief black and white dreams that concludes each day. Wenders creates a meditative flick that makes you investigate the beauty within your everyday life.
2) THE TASTE OF THINGS
Vietnamese filmmaker Anh Hung Tran puts the viewer under a culinary spell in his French romance The Taste of Things. He adapts Marcel Rouff’s novel “La Vie Et La Passion De Bodin-Bouffant” about a beloved gourmet chef (Benoit Magimel) who decides to cook a special meal for his home cook (Juliette Binoche) when she falls ill. Tran and his director of photography Jonathan Ricquebourg leave audiences’ ravenous with long, beautiful scenes of cooking a variety of exquisite dishes. It’s best to eat before you watch.
The Taste of Things could also be regarded as a celebration of veteran French actors Magimel and Binoche who both delivered dignified yet loving chemistry, making us feel the unrequited love these two have for each other. It’s made more fascinating when it’s revealed he’s been proposing to her for 20 years to no avail. So, the climatic works both as an expression of his love and a show of appreciation for all she has done for her. There’s also a bit of tragedy given that she might not have much time left. You want them to get together.
It’s a perfect film for date night.
1) DUNE: PART 2
Denis Villeneuve creates one of those rare sequels that stands as a masterpiece that compliments the first film (and in some opinions, surpasses the original). It maintains the mind-blowing visuals, Game of thrones-like political intrigue and excellent performances that made its predecessor a hit.
The sequel has hero Paul Atredies (Timothee Chalamet) assimilating himself into the Fremen tribes to bring down the ruthless Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarskgard) and the emperor (Christopher Walken) while his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) works behind the scenes to convince the tribesmen that her son is the prophesized messiah.
Dune: Part 2 puts the audience under its spell with Greg Fraser’s mind-blowing cinematography making the desert and the emperor’s kingdom dazzlingly real. They get to shine in the scenes in the Harroken kingdom, a cold world where the outside drains the world of all colour.
The film introduces us to new characters including The Emperor and his strategic daughter Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh). But it’s Austin Butler who stands out as the Baron’s sociopathic nephew Feyd-Rautha. Butler oozes menace with his cold stare, hairless figure, and raspy voice, especially when he mutilates a mistress just to test his knives.
What truly makes both Frank Herbert’s book and Villeneuve’s adaptations so special is how they deconstruct both the Chosen One archetype and white savior storyline. Throughout the film, Lady Jessica manipulates the Fremen people into thinking her son’s a prophet, a role Paul doesn’t want. Meanwhile, Chani (Zendaya) remains skeptical of the prophesy and calls out her father (Javier Bardem) for blindly believing it. Apparently, Herbert takes this deconstruction a step further in Dune: Messiah which will conclude the trilogy.
Villeneuve again proves himself truly cinematic storyteller with a uniquely epic style that elevates complex stories.

tell me about valsethera and those angels and jon 👀<
The specifics of Jon deValjio's extended family drama (which we CAN get into) will have to wait until we get back into roll20. Simply know that he's from a Pathfinder 2e campaign, in which four characters from four very different settings are brought into a world that appears to be grafted out of pieces of countless other worlds. All of them are great.
Jon deValjio is a human cleric from a desert continent that used to be a single massive kingdom, and has since fallen into chaos and been consumed by political infighting. He is a follower of Soralyon, a deity of architecture and ruins, and he basically wanders around trying to uncover pieces of lost history in the naive belief that people are all arguing because nobody knows what the truth is! Their history is being lost! So, naturally, if he can just find all the answers, he can tell everyone and everything will be okay again! No more endless conflict consuming the country or leading to heated political arguments over dinner! Right?
And of course Soralyon would never steer him wrong! That's why every time he gets a weird urge to do something or something unexplainable happens, he is more than happy to go along with it! Because they're in this together! Sure, he kind of got sent to the top of a tower and saw that he'd been somehow transported away from everything he's ever known, but that has to be happening for a reason, doesn't it? Of course it does! He's meeting people from so many new cultures! He is learning so much! And can he be honest? It's kind of nice to get away from all the... you know, all the arguing and everything? Everything with his family and his brother – not that he wants to get away from his brother, of course! His brother's great! Have you heard about his brother? He's a real hero! Like, a real one! Jon never really had the stomach for that. Never was the most popular. But this is great! He's like, a research hero now! He bets that he'll go back home when the time is right. You know, once he's learned the thing he's supposed to learn, and he can go back and teach everybody! Maybe it'll be the answer to everything! No one has ever had an opportunity like this before! It'll turn out okay in the end!
Notably, Jon is from a culture that has almost no non-humans. It does, however, have aggressive feral dragons that raid small towns and eat livestock, and sometimes people. This has led to some tension and confusion between the tiefling bard (who he assumed was some sort of dragon person??) and the party monk, whose monastery worships dragons (eastern dragons, generally benevolent). He gets along great with the party android investigator, because they are both awkward nerds who are determined to figure out all the secrets. We were expecting some juicy drama to come out of the whole situation. Two sessions in, everyone somehow ended up being legitimate fast friends. It even felt earned. He and the tiefling bard even bonded over their worlds being full of weird hierarchies and political bullshit! The monk taught the bard how to meditate! It was great!
Jon rules. He takes notes about like, everything. Very friendly. Kinda clueless. A little self-righteous. A lot naive and head in the clouds. He also has a sickass religious tattoo that makes his entire right arm look like it's made out of banded agate from the elbow down.
As for Valsethera and those funny angels... say, what do you think happens when beings of pure law try to help run a city of humans?
This piece of comedy gold happens. Please behold.
(Featuring the amoral lesbians Des and Aanei, one of whom fed her master to the other, and then who agreed to an ill-advised bargain for power out of a covetous urge to take control of her own life, and a deep and hungry curiosity. The sea demon was also fueled by the covetous urge to see a mortal gorge herself on power and desire and to see what havoc she would wreak if she accompanied her. Deep and hungry curiosity all around.)

"Global Blockbuster 'Anunnaki' Banned Worldwide - Unveiling Ancient Alien Secrets and Forbidden Knowledge!"
This is the History Movie Forbidden And Blocked Worldwide
Cyberspace seems to have barely left the trail in the slightest so there is no viewing information about the movie Anunnaki. Not to escape the interview with movie director, Jon Gress, also never removed from the search for cyberspace, plus the official site of the movie Anunnaki also never disappeared.
#Anunnaki, History Movie Forbidden
Zecharia Sitchin was born in Russia and raised in Palestine, where he gained much knowledge of modern and ancient Hebrew, Semitic and European languages, Old Testament, and archaeological history in the Near East. Sitchin graduated from the University of London majoring in economic history, and became a prominent journalist and editor in Israel for many years, then lived and wrote in New York.
Sitchin has translated from the Sumerian text, based on the Vedic tale, the original Greek and Hebrew quotations from the Bible. His ability to translate multiple languages is considered a major achievement, not many people have the ability to decipher the Tablet Adapa Sumerian language made from clay originated from 6000 years ago, an elusive language.
At least Sitchin has spent decades as an archaeologist and historian in the Middle East. He examined the ancient writings of the Sumerian civilization, then published 5 Paperbacks entitled 'The Earth Chronicles', a documentary interaction of the Nibirian nation on Earth in ancient times.
Historical Movies Forbidden And Blocked Worldwide
Based on Sitchin's story, the Anunnaki film was produced independently but lacked the cost, and then various agencies set it up as a banned and banned worldwide history movie. Earth was once inhabited by Anunnaki who is considered a creature that descends from Heaven. They make colonies and mine gold and other minerals, build ports and airports suspected to be in Iraq and Iran, living as an idealist society with small colonies.
Similar Cuneiform-like tablets suddenly appear in several places around the world, which explains the continued knowledge of stars, farming, farming, even social structures introduced to mankind by advanced civilizations. The film tells the story of history once written in tablets and ancient inscriptions, written originally from civilization before Egypt appeared in the world.
They return when the earth is filled with genetic material mixed with his DNA and use it as a slave to miners, agriculture, and other work in Sumer. In the Anunnaki story has created humans, Homo sapiens and Homo Erectus, through genetic manipulation.
Then Enlil and Enki were sent from Nibiru to rule the earth, they were given the task of dealing with all the power and control of the created beings. They gave architecture knowledge to the ancient Sumerians, agriculture, astronomy, and cultural exchange / offerings to the Gods in the form of minerals, food, and other materials. The Nibiru people disguised themselves as fishmen, lions, birds, and other creatures, as a sign that people should worship them. This is what Moses opposed, he destroyed all the shapes of a creature, one of the traditions exaggerated by the ancient model.
Then the Pleiades were involved in the 3 Golden Age in Egypt, they tried to end the worship created by the Nibiru and the Sirian gods, and replaced it with the concept of 'The One' or monotheistic. But in the fight against differences in the concept of Trust has involved all humans, fighting each other instead of fighting the God who is the real enemy behind the scenes. Since then, every 3600 years there has been a major event on Earth that is currently documented as a major disaster. The Great Flood story of religion and culture in the world has narrated the destruction of the slave race for revolting their rulers, the sterile earth back from the creature without conscience.
#Limited History Films Raised From The Original Text of Ancient Sumerian Tablets
Actually Sitchin strongly emphasizes the story that mentions a creature called the Devil, building a civilization forward so that humans will worship him. Ancient texts of ancient names and events that are different from modern-day designations, occurred long before monotheistic religions were born on Earth. The ancients knew this by another name, they did not know the Devil's name, they only knew the creatures of Nibiru and the Pleiades had descended to Earth.
On July 5, 2006, X-Squared Radio has promoted the movie '1Anunnaki' in an exclusive interview with Jon Gress. He mentioned that the first digital film 'Anunnaki Trilogy' produced Jaguar Films will make the biggest jump in the history of anthropology. The film is a factual first chapter of the Sumerian Tablet, telling how it suddenly came to be the most advanced civilization in the world. Many people still do not know why there are glyphs on earth long before the Egyptians reached their peak.
In the Anunnaki movie story, it has reached two different human versions. Kill humans as demigods, in the holy books of three religions known as Nephlim or giant man, Ad. Temporary versions of other humans are smaller, more easily created and understood as mortal beings. The Second Descent The human version has now filled the surface of the earth, one that has already happened and continues to the truth.
If the Anunnaki story goes through theaters-the whole world, then the meaning of the three Western and Western monotheistic religions will emerge. Surely this would damage the religious countries, and destroy Darwin's Theory of Evolution. The impact of the Anunnaki film will change the human understanding of itself and its placement in the universe. So no wonder, various government and private parties immediately closed and set Anunnaki as a history movie that is banned from running and banned all over the world.

Photography by Jason Jones. Statement by Jon Norris:
What We Leave Behind
I follow several British and Canadian landscape photographers on YouTube. Their channels are a never ending source of wonder and pleasure for me. I so admire their enthusiasm and energy to travel to remote places where Earth's natural beauty has survived the degradation of humanity. They get up at 3:00 in the morning and set up their cameras on some freezing hilltop to catch the rising sun coming over the horizon. I was like that in my youth. I had my mornings on those freezing hilltops!
Quite often the landscapes they photograph contain ruins of old castles, cathedrals, ancient walls, and viaducts... remnants of vanished empires being reclaimed by nature's genius... what Capability Brown would have called 'the spirit of the place' (genius loci)... or what Trungpa Rinpoche would have called 'the dralas'... that unspoken something that we perceive as picturesque and makes the hair stand up on our necks. I think what we are really seeing in those pictures is our impermanence... our death... we just find other words to say it.
One of my favorite YouTube photographers is Jason Jones who lives in Wales, and if ever there was a place on the planet that bears the scars of humankind, it has to be Wales! Recently Jason took some pictures in the Cwmorthin Slate Quarry west of the village of Tanygrisiau in north Wales. It wasn't a good day. His camera lens wouldn't focus and the sunlight wouldn't cooperate, but he took some pictures anyway. In case you don't know, there are quarries all over Wales. That place has been supplying Europe with minerals since the Stone Age. Hardly a hill exists that isn't topped with an iron age hill fort or an industrial age mine shaft.
But on this particular day, Jason found an old abandoned church and farm house. [I attached some stills below.] These buildings had never been grand things... they were made of rough stones that were now falling down. And yet as I looked at the walls of that empty church, I could almost hear the people reciting their psalms and singing their hymns in those excellent Welsh voices. I could see those poor people barely scraping a living out of that remote valley. Poor people christening their babies and marrying their neighbors and burying their parents generation after generation. Minister after minister trying to preserve a foreign faith that had been imported from Rome, where it had been imported from Constantinople, where it had been imported from Jerusalem. Ministers wrestling with the remnants of Paganism, and Catholic conversion, and plague, and the Norman Conquest, and Henry VIII's Act of Supremacy, and on and on.
Somehow I could see those people sitting in their rough-hewn pews back when the arched windows still had stained glass images of the four apostles glowing red and gold in the sunlight. It must have been so comforting. And yet I have to wonder... was any of it real? Was there anything more to it than a convocation of souls helping each other to maintain the illusion for one more day? And imagine their grief when it all came to an end. Where was their foreign god then?
In the picture of the farmhouse you can see a mountainous slag heap from the slate mine piled high in the background. And when that mine shut down, the valley literally died. It stands empty to this day. There must have been a last sermon and a last prayer and a last hymn, and finally the last minster locked the door. How could those people bear it?
And the same for the farm houses, when the last farmer led the last cow away, and then the valley had no more voices... only the sound of the wind in the grass. And then... and then... many years later... Jason Jones got up early one morning and walked up that lonely road for miles with his camera. He took his pictures, and then he edited his video for YouTube and posted it in Wales. And I watched it in bed this morning in Maine, and shared the experience on Facebook. And you found it here in your news feed. And all of this madness arose in primordial consciousness like an infinity mirror that has no beginning and no end. Oh yes... those landscape photographers are a different breed!
All who wander are not lost.

I’ve been thinking about my au a lot lately with stranger!Jon where he’s also sometimes a cat (a Jat, if you will). He carries around a taxidermied cat (which was him due to leitner reasons but it’s okay bc he got skinned <3) and can turn into it via Stranger nonsense. He becomes a Stranger avatar instead of an Eye avatar after the Unknowing because of this :)!
[image id: multiple drawings of Jon, Michael, and Nikola from the magnus archives, as well as an oc, Leo, all done in crayon. Jon has shoulder length dark brown hair, brown skin, and one scarlet eye and one green eye. He is wearing a yellow sweater and an indigo skirt. With him is a black and brown taxidermied cat, which is sometimes a real cat that is Jon. In later drawings, it has half of its face and two legs with blue, purple and pink fabric, and the tail is now a string with a bell on the end. Michael is an abstract scribble, with curly-cu yellow hair, one blue spiral eye and one scarlet X eye, long pointy fingers, and scribbled arms and legs. None of his limbs match right. Nikola is a mannequin dressed up in a red, gold and black ringmaster outfit. Leo has hair dyed pink, yellow, blue and purple, green eyes, and white skin. He’s wearing a red plaid shirt over a plain pale blue shirt.
At the bottom left is Jon as the cat standing and looking grumpily at something. Another shows him flipped over on his back, statements scattered everywhere, being gripped by Martin, who is saying, “who knocked over my files? YOU.” In the middle of a page is Jon as the cat distorted and skrungled. To the side is another drawing of Jon as a human, looking very tired. Standing on his shoulders is the taxidermied cat. Below him is written “get this man a nap”. To the side of this is an unobstructed drawing of the cat to show all of its patterns. At the top, Nikola, Michael and Jon are all playing uno, sitting criss cross applesauce on the floor. Michael is placing a card down on the pile, grinning widely. In Jon’s lap is the taxidermied cat. To the side of this is a bigger drawing of Michael, grinning and waving at the viewer. Written off to the side of him is “FREAK” with an arrow pointing to Michael. Finally is a drawing of Leo, gesturing wildly at a red string and cork board. End id]

I'm not an "American First" (and maybe because I read science fiction) I'm a "Terran First". I'm a human being first. And I have this sympathy for other human beings no matter what side of the giant ice wall they happen to be born on. - GRRM
Jon’s plot with the Freefolk is, for me, one of the best parts of his story. There’s GRRM’s poetic prose in his description of the wilderness of the lands beyond the Wall as Jon travels with the rangers and then the Freefolk. There’s Jon’s character growth and gradual dawning realization that it’s never been the Freefolk who were the real enemy.
It’s interesting to see from Jon’s thoughts and comments ‘Wildlings’ gradually change to ‘Freefolk’. We are introduced to the Wildlings in AGoT as the enemy of the realm from beyond the wall - savage heathens who raid, murder, rape and steal women. The Night’s Watch and even the Warden of the North, Eddard Stark, see the Wildlings as the true enemy against whom the Wall must stand as a defense.
Jon goes undercover among the Wildings to understand the enemy and convey information back to the Night’s Watch. In doing so he learns more about the Freefolk, their people, their culture, their traditions and humbly acknowledges his ignorant hate against a people he knew nothing about (You know nothing, Jon Snow)
The Freefolk tackles the themes of human beings otherizing each other due to bigotry and hate and fighting each other while the real threat - the inhuman Others - advances on them as a threat to ALL humans.
Humanity being one and having to be accepting of differences is a recurring theme in Jon’s story right from AGoT. His new friends and brothers, his new family include the likes of Pyp, a mummers boy, Toad, the son of a winesink keeper, Sam who is bookish and cannot fight. He gets to know and befriends Ygritte, Tormund, Mance, Val and Leathers. He appreciates Satin and Wun Wun.
He told me that a maester's collar is made of chain to remind him that he is sworn to serve," Jon said, remembering. "I asked why each link was a different metal. A silver chain would look much finer with his grey robes, I said. Maester Luwin laughed. A maester forges his chain with study, he told me. The different metals are each a different kind of learning, gold for the study of money and accounts, silver for healing, iron for warcraft. And he said there were other meanings as well. The collar is supposed to remind a maester of the realm he serves, isn't that so? Lords are gold and knights steel, but two links can't make a chain. You also need silver and iron and lead, tin and copper and bronze and all the rest, and those are farmers and smiths and merchants and the like. A chain needs all sorts of metals, and a land needs all sorts of people." - Jon, AGoT
This is no army, no more than it is a town. This is a whole people come together - Jon, ACoK
A thousand captives watched through the wooden bars of their stockage as the horn was lifted high. All were ragged and half-starved. Wildlings, the Seven Kingdoms called them; they named themselves the free folk. They looked neither wild nor free — only hungry, frightened, numb." - Jon, ADwD
The shield that guards the realms of men. Ghost nuzzled up against his shoulder, and Jon draped an arm around him. He could smell Horse’s unwashed breeches, the sweet scent Satin combed into his beard, the rank sharp smell of fear, the giant’s overpowering musk. He could hear the beating of his own heart. When he looked across the grove at the woman with her child, the two greybeards, the Hornfoot man with his maimed feet, all he saw was men. - Jon, ADwD
“Are you certain that I have not forgotten some? The ones about the king and his laws, and how we must defend every foot of his land and cling to each ruined castle? How does that part go?” Jon waited for an answer. None came. “I am the shield that guards the realms of men. Those are the words. So tell me, my lord— what are these wildlings, if not men?” - Jon, ADwD
“These are godless savages,” said Septon Cellador. “Even in the south the treachery of wildlings is renowned.”
Leathers crossed his arms. “That battle down below? I was on t'otherside, remember? Now I wear your blacks and train your boys to kill. Some might call me turncloak. Might be so … but I am no more savage than you crows. We have gods too. The same gods they keep in Winterfell.” - Jon, ADwD
"Free folk and kneelers are more alike than not, Jon Snow. Men are men and women are women, no matter which side of the Wall we were born on. Good men and bad, heroes and villains, men of honor, liars, cravens, brutes . . . we have plenty, as you do." - Jon, ADwD
The King beyond the Wall, Mance Rayder, understood the Freefolk and managed to unite several warring factions under one man in order to lead them across the Wall.
“When I left the Shadow Tower there were five men making noises about how they might be the stuff of kings. Tormund was one, the Magnar another. The other three I slew, when they made it plain they’d sooner fight than follow.“ - Jon, ASoS
Mance had spent years assembling this vast plodding host, talking to this clan mother and that magnar, winning one village with sweet words and another with a song and a third with the edge of his sword, making peace between Harma Dogshead and the Lord o’ Bones, between the Hornfoots and the Nightrunners, between the walrus men of the Frozen Shore and the cannibal clans of the great ice rivers, hammering a hundred different daggers into one great spear, aimed at the heart of the Seven Kingdoms.
"Free folk don’t follow names, or little cloth animals sewn on a tunic,” the King-Beyond-the-Wall had told him. “They won’t dance for coins, they don’t care how you style yourself or what that chain of office means or who your grandsire was. They follow strength. They follow the man.” - Jon, ADwD
However Mance, while shrewd and a thinker, shares some similarities with Stannis Baratheon in that he is not very flexible in his goals and ambitions
“You can kill your enemies,” Jon said bluntly, “but can you rule your friends? If we let your people pass, are you strong enough to make them keep the king’s peace and obey the laws?”
“Whose laws? The laws of Winterfell and King’s Landing?” Mance laughed. “When we want laws we’ll make our own. You can keep your king’s justice too, and your king’s taxes. I’m offering you the horn, not our freedom. We will not kneel to you.” - Jon X, ASoS
Now there is nothing wrong in Mance’s way of thinking. He is arguing for freedom against feudalism, which aligns with our morals. Mance’s thoughts on why he leaves the NW are very relatable and a bastard like Jon can understand the love for a freedom free from societal rules, bigotry and ignorance.
She was dead, as it happened, but her daughter saw to me. Cleaned my wounds, sewed me up, and fed me porridge and potions until I was strong enough to ride again. And she sewed up the rents in my cloak as well, with some scarlet silk from Asshai that her grandmother had pulled from the wreck of a cog washed up on the Frozen Shore. It was the greatest treasure she had, and her gift to me.” He swept the cloak back over his shoulders. “But at the Shadow Tower, I was given a new wool cloak from stores, black and black, and trimmed with black, to go with my black breeches and black boots, my black doublet and black mail. The new cloak had no frays nor rips nor tears…and most of all, no red. The men of the Night’s Watch dressed in black, Ser Denys Mallister reminded me sternly, as if I had forgotten. My old cloak was fit for burning now, he said.
“I left the next morning…for a place where a kiss was not a crime, and a man could wear any cloak he chose.” - Jon, ASoS
However, a people who don’t want to obey the laws of Westeros are going to run into trouble with the people of Westeros who already hate them for their raiding, stealing, raping ways.
I think that Jon intends to go further than Mance and that his arc in the books will end with him integrating the Freefolk into the North. We see hints of this in ADwD.
“These wildlings … do you think they will keep faith, my lord?”
“Some will. Not all. We have our cowards and our knaves, our weaklings and our fools, as do they.”
“Once the free folk are settled in the Gift, they will become part of the realm,” Jon pointed out. “These are desperate days, and like to grow more desperate. We have seen the face of our real foe, a dead white face with bright blue eyes. The free folk have seen that face as well. Stannis is not wrong in this. We must make common cause with the wildlings.”- Jon, ADwD
However, Jon’s approach is different to Mance’s - a sort of middle ground where both sides have to make concessions. He goes back to the original interpretation of NW oaths to include the Wildlings and pushes through with allowing Freefolk this side of the wall. At the same time, he insists on the Freefolk following orders, no matter what. Except for the Thenns - in whom Mance valued this quality - much of the Freefolk are without disciplined leadership.
Stannis also wants to settle the Wildlings in the North, but he intends for them to bend the knee, something that Jon knows will not endear them to the king.
“Your brothers will not like it, no more than your father’s lords, but I mean to allow the wildlings through the Wall… those who will swear me their fealty, pledge to keep the king’s peace and the king’s laws, and take the Lord of Light as their god. Even the giants, if those great knees of theirs can bend. I will settle them on the Gift, once I have wrested it away from your new Lord Commander. When the cold winds rise, we shall live or die together. It is time we made alliance against our common foe.” He looked at Jon. “Would you agree?”
“My father dreamed of resettling the Gift,” Jon admitted. “He and my uncle Benjen used to talk of it.” He never thought of settling it with wildlings, though… but he never rode with wildlings, either. He did not fool himself; the free folk would make for unruly subjects and dangerous neighbors. Yet when he weighed Ygritte’s red hair against the cold blue eyes of the wights, the choice was easy. “I agree.”
Unlike Stannis, Jon does not force them to kneel. Unlike Mance, he does require them to follow orders and NW rules.
It is too cold for this mummer's show, thought Jon. "The free folk despise kneelers," he had warned Stannis. "Let them keep their pride, and they will love you better." His Grace would not listen. He said, "It is swords I need from them, not kisses." - Jon, ADwD
Down in the Seven Kingdoms boys of twelve were often pages or squires; many had been training at arms for years. Girls of twelve were children. These are wildlings, though. “As you will. Boys and girls as young as twelve. But only those who know how to obey an order. That goes for all of you. I will never ask you to kneel to me, but I will set captains over you, and sergeants who will tell you when to rise and when to sleep, where to eat, when to drink, what to wear, when to draw your swords and loose your arrows. The men of the Night’s Watch serve for life. I will not ask that of you, but so long as you are on the Wall you will be under my command. Disobey an order, and I’ll have your head off. Ask my brothers if I won’t. They’ve seen me do it.” - Jon, ADwD
And we see the Freefolk accede to this and Tormund bargain a deal that allows them passage to the other side of the wall and Jon Snow getting sworn oaths from them. Many of the Freefolk take up Jon’s offer to fight for the Night Watch. Others are hired to cook and clean, make weapons and become stewards and builders.
Jon plans for Soren Shieldbreaker to garrison Stonedoor with Freefolk. Borroq and his boar is headed there. Jon wants to garrison Hoarfrost Hill and Rimegate with Freefolk like Harle the Huntsman, Harle the Handsome etc. He’s planning on sending Halleck to Deeplake or Sable Hall. Morna White Mask commands Queensgate with her people. Tormund gets Oakenshield. Long Barrow is manned by spear wives under Iron Emmett. Devyn Sealskinner and his clan is given command of Greenguard. By the end of ADwD, of the 19 castles along the wall, at least ten have Freefolk either in command or there as a fighting force.
Amongst the stream of warriors were the fathers of many of Jon's hostages. Some stared with cold dead eyes as they went by, fingering their sword hilts. Others smiled at him like long-lost kin, though a few of those smiles discomfited Jon Snow more than any glare. None knelt, but many gave him their oaths. "What Tormund swore, I swear," declared black-haired Brogg, a man of few words. Soren Shieldbreaker bowed his head an inch and growled, "Soren's axe is yours, Jon Snow, if ever you have need of such." Red-bearded Gerrick Kingsblood brought three daughters. “They will make fine wives, and give their husbands strong sons of royal blood,” he boasted. “Like their father, they are descended from Raymun Redbeard, who was King-Beyond-the-Wall.”
Blood meant little and less amongst the free folk, Jon knew. Ygritte had taught him that. Gerrick’s daughters shared her same flame-red hair, though hers had been a tangle of curls and theirs hung long and straight. Kissed by fire. “Three princesses, each lovelier than the last,” he told their father. “I will see that they are presented to the queen.” Selyse Baratheon would take to these three better than she had to Val, he suspected; they were younger and considerably more cowed. Sweet enough to look at them, though their father seems a fool.
Howd Wanderer swore his oath upon his sword, as nicked and pitted a piece of iron as Jon had ever seen. Devyn Sealskinner presented him with a sealskin hat, Harle the Huntsman with a bear-claw necklace. The warrior witch Morna removed her weirwood mask just long enough to kiss his gloved hand and swear to be his man or his woman, whichever he preferred. And on and on and on. - Jon, ADwD
Tormund points out that Mance is King beyond the Wall because he’s clever.
The king gave the older man an irritated look. “Tormund, some day try thinking before you speak. I know it was Craster. I asked Jon to see if he would tell it true.”
“Har.” Tormund spat. “Well, I stepped in that!” He grinned at Jon. “See, lad, that’s why he’s king and I’m not. I can outdrink, outfight, and outsing him, and my member’s thrice the size o’ his, but Mance has cunning. He was raised a crow, you know, and the crow’s a tricksy bird.” - Jon, ASoS
And so is Jon. He does not push the Freefolk, he does not humble them by forcing them to kneel, instead he employs them to address his shortage of man power in return for their access to the same food that the NW brothers get.
And by the end of ADwD, he has their support. They are ready to fight for him.
The Night’s Watch will make for Hardhome. I ride to Winterfell alone, unless …” Jon paused. “… is there any man here who will come stand with me?”
The roar was all he could have hoped for, the tumult so loud that the two old shields tumbled from the walls. Soren Shieldbreaker was on his feet, the Wanderer as well. Toregg the Tall, Brogg, Harle the Huntsman and Harle the Handsome both, Ygon Oldfather, Blind Doss, even the Great Walrus.
I have my swords, thought Jon Snow, and we are coming for you, Bastard.” - Jon, ADwD
Jon integrating the Freefolk into the NW faces a lot of opposition and anger from his men. He tries to convince them of the necessity and he has to address the issue even with the mountain clan chiefs who have come all the way to see what Jon is upto on the wall.
Integrating the Freefolk into the North is going to be even harder considering the 8000 years of bad blood between them. In ACoK we see the Umbers at the harvest fest complaining about Wildling raids. Jon advises Stannis to not use the Wildlings in his army as it would place the Umbers against him.
However, I do think this will happen considering GRRM’s theme of unity against a common enemy. Jon has already started with House Thenn. Of all the Freefolk, the Thenns are closest to the Northerners.
“The spearwives will be so happy. You might do well to bestow a castle on the Magnar.”
Jon’s smile died. “I might if I could trust him. Sigorn blames me for his father’s death, I fear. Worse, he was bred and trained to give orders, not to take them. Do not confuse the Thenns with free folk. Magnar means lord in the Old Tongue, I am told, but Styr was closer to a god to his people, and his son is cut from the same skin. I do not require men to kneel, but they do need to obey.”
“Aye, m’lord, but you had best do something with the Magnar. You’ll have trouble with the Thenns if you ignore them.”
"Different," she said, "but more like us"
"Aye, my lady. The Thenns have lords and laws." They know how to kneel. They mine tin and copper for bronze, forge their own arms and armor instead of stealing it. A proud folk, and brave. Mance Rayder had to best the old Magnar thrice before Styr would accept him as King-Beyond-the-Wall." - Jon, ADwD
The Northerners are not going to be happy with House Thenn taking over for Karstark, but the Thenns in the North is what can start pushing forth the idea that these different people can coexist.
The sigil of house Thenn is also interesting. Notice the similarities to the red sun sigil of Nymeria.
The Dornish Sigil is basically a combination of the red sun with the spear of the Martells. House Thenn has the bronze plate of Thenns, the red flames for R’hllor and the sunburst for Karstark.
House Thenn bringing the people beyond the Wall into the North proper is reminiscent of Nymeria bringing her people to Dorne and integrating the kingdom with Rhoynish customs and laws.
So there are Nymeria’s themes of integration with Jon, Arya has named her Direwolf after Nymeria and GRRM has compared Nymeria to Daenerys.
Q: Also, just how much impact did the Rhoynar have on the modern customs of Dorne? Beyond the gender-blind inheritance laws, the couple of Rhoynish gods that smallfolk might have turned into saints or angelic-type beings, and perhaps the round shields, that is. In particular, given that Nymeria was a warrior-queen, is there a certain amazon tradition?
GRRM: The Rhoynar did impact Dorne in a number of ways, some of which will be revealed in later books. Women definitely have more rights in Dorne, but I would not call it an “Amazon” tradition, necessarily. Nymeria had more in common with someone like Daenerys or Joan d'Arc than with Brienne or Xena the Warrior Princess. - GRRM
While the Freefolk do engage in certain primitive and regressive practices, their women also have more independence in their choice of partners as well as what they would like to do. I don’t think feudalism in Westeros is going to change when the non-kneelers arrive, but I do think the Freefolk could bring with them a more egalitarian approach towards women in the North. And with characters like Arya Stark wanting women to have a more important role, I could see a meeting of minds between these two cultures.
Jon has always struggled with his identity, even more so after his sojourn with the Freefolk.
Ygritte wanted me to be a wildling. Stannis wants me to be the Lord of Winterfell. But what do I want? - Jon, ASoS
I suspect that in TWoW, Jon will become even closer to the Freefolk after the assassination and mutiny by his fellow brothers of the NW. I think that he will indeed march south of the wall at the head of a Wildling army. And the North will have to make their peace with Jon Stark - if Robb’s decree is taken into consideration - and his army of the Freefolk.
Succession and land is already a very complex issue as we see with Lady Hornwood’s case and the king having to make the tough decisions. If the Boltons are defeated who gets the Dreadfort? Just like with the Karstarks I can see Jon injecting new blood into the North. What about House Giantsbane? Will Tormund bend the knee to Jon Stark? Considering that Last Hearth is next door to the Dreadfort and House Umber’s sigil is a giant, that’s going to be so much trouble for Jon if he did this! But that’s what makes these books so much fun.
So in effect, considering how much opposition Jon faced from his men in regards to integrating the Freefolk even into just the NW, at the moment the Gift seems to be the only option for them. And as Jon points out, that does indeed bring them into the realm. I do think that Jon will try for further integration and succeed by the end. I can see him talking to the Umbers and making his case - just like he explained to the Mountain clan chiefs, just like he explained to his men. And if that’s not going to work, he has a huge direwolf and a valyrian steel sword that can be quite convincing as well, as we saw with Robb. The Freefolk who desire to settle beyond the Gift would also have to agree to bend the knee. I can’t see the other houses agreeing to anything else.
I think the approaching threat of the Others is going to make the case for Jon anyway and force everyone else to concede.
“Because they’re different,” he insisted. “Like night and day, or ice and fire.”
“If ice can burn,” said Jojen in his solemn voice, “then love and hate can mate. Mountain or marsh, it makes no matter. The land is one.” - Bran, ASoS

I just realised something.
If season three of Superman and Lois starts by revealing that all of season two was just a dream, I would be relieved.
Normally, I hate “it was all just a dream (nightmare)” thing but I think season two screwed up enough that it would be better for season three to establish that season two was all dreams/nightmares. Except for Natalie arriving. That happened.
I’ve gone more into detail (aka fantasizing what this would look like) below the cut.
Disclaimer: I know this isn’t how season three will go. I’m simply fantasizing on what I would find a good way for season three to retcon season two.
Season three starts with Lois trying to tug on chains. Since the show loves its misdirect, it should look like Lois is tied up only for the camera to pan out and reveal that Clark, Jordan and Jon are all chained up. The shot ends with green kryptonite chained to Clark and Jordan while Jon is chained to a yellow/gold-y Kryptonite that looks like X-K from season two.
Opening theme.
The following would expand over season three. I just thought the first paragraph could be a decent set-up for a “season two was all dream (nightmare)” reveal.
Natalie is still building her suit. While I was glad for Natalie’s suit, since season two took her and John out a fair chunk of episodes, it rung too fast. So she’s mid-building. Natalie similar wants to help because Jon is in trouble as well but since she’s still going through trauma from her own world, she’s reluctant to help Clark and Jordan.
She wants to because that’s the kind of person Natalie is but she’s also a traumatized teenager who have (seemingly safely) incapacitated Kryptonians. Because she’s (mostly) seeing Jordan as completely Kryptonian. We have a Real Flashback in which we see Jordan, in an attempt to let Natalie process, avoid her and Natalie took that as Kryptonian supremacy. While we see Jon trying to include her and she views Jon as completely human. She doesn’t like to recognize that Jon is also Kryptonian-Human.
John Henry Irons - he managed to find a way to stop the poisoning part of the Kryptonite so it won’t kill Clark, Jordan and Jon. And now he’s trying to discover ways to reverse it or get rid of the kryptonite completely.
I have no idea how to make it so the suit isn’t able to remove either the kryptonite or the chain so they can take everyone (or the rocks) out of the area.
Well, I have one idea but it involves Jon having powers and I’m trying to not make that my answer to everything.
With Clark, we go into his mind briefly and see season two flashbacks. But this time, the real Clark is screaming and trying to get out. His nightmare: Something happening to Lois so she doesn’t react like she usually does (i.e screaming Lois is partially explained), focusing so heavily on his secret that it affects his relationship with Lois, the boys and affects Lois’s friendships. Clark’s fear of what would happen if one son got powers and the other didn’t coming true.
Perhaps Clark constantly has Jor-El crystal’s funeral in one corner playing because he realised by never taking Jon to the fortress, Jon never got to meet his grandfather. This is revealed or hinted at what has started Clark’s own nightmare. Clark and Jon’s nightmares often cross-over.
We can also do a small fear of Clark being Superman directly affects his reputation as a journalist (hence why Chrissy was being so judgey to Clark in season two despite the fact it makes no sense - have that be a minor fear of his).
With Jordan, insecurity made him imagine Sarah would cheat and his own brain excused it, trying to liken it to him not saying he’s half-Kryptonian and has powers. Jordan does struggle to see things from other’s POV so have him also be concerned about one-with-powers and one-without dichotomy. And the X-K arc he imagined because he thinks that’s what he would do if it was the other way around.
With Jon - season two was just a nightmare for him so...Jon standing there is also explained by it being his nightmares, the inability to protect himself and having to rely on others. As well as fear that the reason he doesn’t have powers is because he would abuse it and/or be manipulated (hello Jon-El).
The reason the X-K is gold in season two is because that’s the colour of the kryptonite that’s rendering him unconscious. But, for whatever reason, Jon is the only one who occasionally flits into consciousness. Not to alert, not awareness but enough to see the gold-looking kryptonite. And his brain is converting that into X-K.
Depending on how people could take it, it could be a hanging question on whether or not Jon’s human heritage is driving him for fleeting bits of consciousness or if he has unknown powers. That would make three seasons technically though.
Or it could be revealed that he has powers but in a different direction to the more known Superman powers. We do know that Lois doesn’t know every single power Clark has (her reference to super-smell followed by Clark sheepishly saying he does have super-smell in season one) and maybe these sort of powers are just things Clark doesn’t realise are powers. That happens.
I know technically there’s a gold kryptonite that’s supposed to take away powers but if the show can change John Henry Irons’ origins and Natalie’s name, I can change what gold-kryptonite does.
Or just chalk it up to Jon being human-Kryptonian. Whichever one you consider more believable/satisfying.
Somewhere through the season, it’s revealed the all three are mentally linked. And sometimes their own nightmares bleed into each other’s.
Clark and Jon’s nightmares often cross-over. Mainly because they have similar fears but in the opposite direction. The barn-scene in season two is the nightmare where Clark and Jon realise they are in nightmares. Because they spot the other.
Maybe the season finale reveals that Kryptonians have telepathy (like Lois&Clark sort of deal) and that’s how they are linked. Bonus that Jon has to acknowledge that he is half Kryptonian.
But anyway, they discover they are unconscious and having nightmares.
No Ally (which is why she was so lackluster), no X-K or Candice, no Sarah’s cheating plot, no Lana reveal. We discover Chrissy’s reveal is real but only because Chrissy discovered the chained up Lane-Kents (I like to think the boys are legally Jordan and Jonathan Lane-Kent). She reacts much the same but with a more serious tone since she did just discover Superman and two teenagers chained up and unconscious.
The reason Chrissy discovered is because Lois is very understandable distracted in trying to find answers and ways to help her family.
At first Chrissy was trying to give Lois time since Lois obviously couldn’t hide the fact that her husband and children have disappeared. But a late night disaster makes Chrissy determined to discover what Lois is hiding.
Since Chrissy is the only one taking Lois seriously, Lois wonders if she should tell Chrissy. But holds back because it is not her secret to tell and she doesn’t know if she can break Clark’s trust a second time. Obviously the first time was in order to save Clark’s life and he doesn’t blame Lois one bit but she’s going through it right now. She’s trying to hold onto one thing and the one constant is she and Clark can completely trust each other.
The reasons why Chrissy is taking her seriously is because she had, at first, just humoured Lois in season one only to realise that Lois was right. So now we have Chrissy who makes mistakes and learns from it.
While Chrissy makes it clear she can’t help Lois during work hours, she will do what she can after or before. Eventually this leads to enough trust that Lois tells her that she knows something that Clark has never told anyone but her before (she decides Chrissy doesn’t need to know that the boys know) which would explain why she’s so certain Clark didn’t leave by choice. But it also means betraying her husband’s trust (for the second time though she doesn’t tell Chrissy that part) and she doesn’t know if she can do that.
Lois opening up this way makes Chrissy decide that if she can discover what this big secret that Clark apparently has. So she investigates on her own.
Her working theory is he’s biologically the son of murderers and the Kents adopted him. She’s shocked to find she’s half-right (that the Kents did adopt him). I don’t know if Superman&Lois’s Smallville knows if Clark is adopted or not but, for Chrissy’s theory’s sake, they don’t. Or maybe Chrissy just never paid attention. Things happen and Chrissy finds out.
This way, the show can also do it’s “secrets are bad” argument without essentially saying no one deserves privacy. Because Lois doesn’t really have a friend to confide in on this and while she’s willing to understand why John Henry did what he did in season one, this was still a man who tried to kill her husband multiple times. And lived/lives in a vehicle that nearly killed her son. And we can, you know, let the audience view each argument (for the secret vs against it) and came to their own conclusion.
You know, trusting the audience. Side note: I’m very much on the “for the secret side” so if the way I just quickly wrote up how Chrissy actually discovered it has giant holes in it, I took like five seconds and my bias is likely showing through.
Also I’m not sure who the major villain would be here. I want to say Brainiac but I’m also watching a ton of episodes from various Superman medias to get a handle on Brainiac’s character. So I’ve got the reference. But any techno-based villain or villain with access to any nightmare-inducing products (like maybe black mercury flower or something). Mxyzptlk? IDK.
Lol what if it was Mxyzptlk? Viewing this as all a good prank and could maybe reference Clark messing with him last time they fought (referencing Superman: The Animated Series, maybe?)
Or maybe I just want a live-action version of that Superman: The Animated Series of Clark and Mxyzptlk’s fight. Tyler Hoechlin could pull it off. Also (very unpopular opinion alert) it’s the one scene I really like in Superman TAS. That series just has everything I tend to really not like and not even Superman can save it for me.
And Tyler Hoechlin could absolutely pull a live-action version of that scene off.
Lois Time
Maybe since Smallville has shown it will turn on anyone the moment (which is ironically how a lot of small towns do work),
First off, no one wants to say it but Lois knows a decent amount think Clark abandoned her and took Jordan and Jon with him. This can also bring up Lois’s issues with abandonment from her mother. As much as I hate Lois just rolling up with the Irons and going “cool if they live with us?” with the Irons RIGHT THERE from season two pilot, we could play that up. Make her question. Maybe wonder if her sons ran away and Clark’s trying to bring them back but without revealing it to her.
She insists that there is something more going on and continues to investigate. But a part of her still wonders because feelings are irrational and Lois does have abandonment issues.
Have Chrissy be the only one to take her seriously while everyone else pities her and thinks she’s just trying Or think Clark actually did take the boys and left Lois but - in certain small-town fashion - reckons Lois did something to deserve it.
Writing this, I just realised I may have some leftover issues from my time spent living in small towns. Sorry to anyone who does live in a decent small town.
Except for Mr Olowe. I have grown attached to that one-scene character and he shall not be part of this slander.
Lana does feel sorry and pities Lois. But she also tries to get Lois to consider the possibility by referring to her own experience with Clark. Except obviously this angers Lois because there’s a giant difference between a 30 second high school relationship and decades-long marriage between two consenting adults. Lana doesn’t mean to - from her point, she’s trying to get Lois to consider what seems to be the most likely scenario. This breaks down the fairly new friendship.
Ideally, once Lois finds out where her family is, she talks to them as she tries to free them. She tells Clark about Lana’s arguments and how she’s mad. She mentions that Chrissy is the only one taking her seriously and thinks Chrissy is proving to be a good and trusted friend. But she doesn’t want to betray Clark’s trust even though she thinks Chrissy would understand. Especially since it seems like John Henry Irons (and he is - this Lois is still trying to adjust to season two and three John Henry Irons with season one’s) is aiming for saving their lives.
This leads to her talks about how she finds it difficult to trust that John Henry Irons won’t after what he did in season one. Not when he didn’t listen to her plead when Clark is possessed. And she mentions that she doesn’t know what Jon said but that she knows he’s the reason John Henry spared Clark but she wished she did since Jon is also in danger.
This doesn’t happen all at once. And it could still be viewed as Lois being too quick to trust Chrissy but we have a Lois who has an entire family in danger with the only person to turn to are two people (Sam and John Henry Irons) who have proven they would have no qualms with killing Clark if they thought it necessary.
Now we have a reveal that Clark can hear Lois and S2 becoming The Lana Show is explained as Clark’s brain trying to process Lois’s word into his nightmares. And we discover that one of Clark’s fears of the secret getting out is people blaming Lois for keeping it while not blaming him. Bizarro Superman is Clark’s fear that season one John Henry Irons’ was right.
And no, I will not stop writing out John Henry Irons. I just really like the name.
Maybe have a small fear of Clark thinking if he tells people outside his family, it takes away the moments he did choose to tell people. Which would explain the terrible Lana reveal as Clark (wrongly) viewing just telling anyone is the exact same in each moment. Instead of just different moments.
Have season three pilot end with Lois aware that Clark, Jordan and Jon are all unconsciousness and chained up somewhere. Lois mentions that Clark doesn’t need to eat or drink - even with kryptonite. But have her refuse to even consider the possibility that her sons would be like that.
Maybe we can have a Clois flashback where Jon seems to not need to drink or eat anything which is why they thought Jon would have powers because Jordan very clearly needs to eat and drink. IDK. I just want in-universe answers.
Obviously it ends well. A combination of the entire family’s efforts with help from the Irons. Lois centering them to the real world while Clark, Jordan and Jon each find ways to help the other deal with their own nightmares.
You have no idea how much I want to say it’s revealed Jon has technopathy which is why John Henry Irons’ suit was unable to rescue them. Or this is tumblr so maybe you do know how much.
Natalie asks her dad if they can stay in Smallville because she realises that seeing Clark and Jordan makes her realise they are people and she doesn’t like the fact that she had been torn between helping or letting a family suffer needlessly due to her own trauma. Since this is my fantasy of season three, the Irons become the secondary cast while the Cushings are just background - there to be somewhat decent Smallville people.
And obviously the Lane-Kents are the main cast since season two apparently didn’t realise that. Despite the title of the show being Superman and Lois.
Jordan’s powers are exactly what they were at the end of season one. None of this shoving powers at Jordan and calling it an arc. Have him suddenly getting powers that quickly also be a nightmare for him and then lends into his fear of his relationship with Jon breaking down.
But in the season finale (or semi-finale depending on pacing) he leaps out the tall building’s highest window.
Jon thinks it’s flying - saying it counts, Jordan’s not sure because he wasn’t in the air for long and his landing was crap. It ends with Clark mentioning that he was able to leap over buildings before he could fly. It would be a nice callback to OG Superman’s powers while also leaving it in the audience’s mind that Jordan will get flight - just not yet.
Because flight is not a season two or three power.
Silly Season Three Finale (Freaky Friday with Clark and Jon):
Clark and Jon accidently stay in the wrong subconscious since their nightmares are quite similar. Jon wakes up in Clark’s body - we get him struggling with all powers except hearing. At first, him not struggling with superhearing is seen as the show just needing to do that.
Until Clark-as-Jon wakes up, claps his hands over his ears and whispers “You had super-hearing* this entire time?”
Jon-as-Clark stares and is like “wait, that’s not normal?”
Roll credits.
*Technically technopathy but I’m viewing it similar to how the super-hearing works and that is the closest Clark can figure out because he’s hearing technology and stuff.
If, for whatever reason, someone in charge of Superman and Lois, legal disclaimer this is all up for grabs. Legal binding contract to freely use these ideas for season three.
Let me fantasize this part as well.
Also if any fanfic writers want to write this, go ahead.

Death of the DCEU or Chekhov's Gunn
Henry Cavill is no longer Superman and is off trying to be a Space Marine. Wonder Woman III is dead because Patty Jenkins can't take criticism. Jason Mamoa is in talks to be recast as Lobo. James Gunn is writing a new Superman film based around Clark Kent and skewing younger for franchise longevity. The Snyderverse is finally dead and I cannot stress how happy I am to see it go. It's no secret that I am a Marvel Apologist. I think The House of Ideas just writes better characters. There is an inherent reliability setting your vigilante shenanigans in the real world, and giving those heroes very human flaws. Spider-Man is my favorite because Peter Parker was a nerd as a kid, who puberty hit like a truck being driven by a radioactive spider. Wall-Crawling hyperbole aside, that's kind of my life story. I'm not some solar powered alien who can punch the planet to dust or a billionaire victim of violent crime. I'm just a guy and most of my power fantasies are rather sardonic, grounded in the reality of my life circumstances. I dream of being able to pay for an ambulance ride and not have to take out a loan to cover it. That said, I don't mind DC's take on the Greek Myth and always enjoy when those characters are executed correctly in media outside of print. The DCAU is the gold standard for creating an interwoven universe and that version of Kal is easily my favorite. There is a real, earnest, humbleness; a concerted effort at creating character over spectacle, which made those shows endearing. The DCAU made me like Superman, which is a feat because i don’t like Superman. The Snyderverse had none of that. In fact, Snyder’s take on Superman is almost everything i hate about the character. There is nothing subtle or nuanced about what Zack Snyder does and it crippled that entire burgeoning cinematic universe from the start.
Snyder fell into the same trap so many other people do when they write Supes. He made him Jesus. It's a common error because of how powerful the character is. Dude is a literal god in comparison to us mere mortals and it’s easy to lift him into the heavens. Easy and lazy. Super-God is the cheapest way to approach the character and completely misses the point of Clark Kent. Superman is the alias. That’s the visage he chooses when he does his hero work. Contrary to the very poignant monologue in Kill Bill, Clark is not the costume. Clark is the person. Superman is the version of Clark he thinks the world needs, not the person he is. Kal-El crashed landed on earth as basically a newborn. He was raised in Smallville, Kansas by Jon and Martha Kent. He is a corn-fed, middle American, white boy, through and through. Kid can just spew plasma from his eyes. Like, let’s be clear; Clark still looks like Superman, even when he’s Clark. Dude is over six feet tall, and built like a straight up circus strongman, but he’s still JUST Clark. The core of Superman are those values Jon and Martha instilled into him as they raised him on their farm. It’s that humanity given to him, by his very human parents, which define the character and not his insane power set. Snyder never understood this. He never let Clark be Clark, he was always Superman. Clark blended in with human society for decades before donning the cape and none of that was ever really conveyed, even in Man of Steel. He was immediately this Savior figure, uplifted into the hallowed realm of deified legend. The DCAU Superman canonically still believes in Santa Claus, man! Zack Snyder would never! Something like that isn’t benefiting of his Jesus Allegory. It’s not tortured enough. It’s not edgy enough. But that’s the thing; Superman is soft as f*ck. Mans is straight ten ply, bud. You need those little character moments to make Superman relatable and Snyder never delivered those to us, which is kind of the entire problem with the Snyderverse.
I grew up in the Nineties. Batman: The Animated Series was a huge part of my childhood. It launched an entire, interconnected, television universe and it did it by telling compelling stories, riddled with spectacle, but based around characters and relationships. WonderBat is one of my favorite pairings but even the platonic interactions of Hawkgirl and Flash made for dope ass television. These heroes have powers that exceed reality and, somehow, they felt grounded. They felt relatable. They felt like people. Nothing about the Snyderverse is relatable, outside of Aquaman, and that's just because Jason Mamoa is playing himself but wet. People hate when I say this, but you build a cinematic universe the way Marvel did. That's how you make it a success. Iron Man was popular because Tony Stark was dope. It wasn’t about the armors, it was about the human piloting them. The best versions of Superman are dope because of Clark. It’s almost always the secret identity that makes the character, It’s what we, as the audience, can identify with. If your hero or whatever, has an alias, then it’s just that; An alias. It’s not who the character is, it’s just a means to an end. The only time this rule doesn't apply is with Batman. That asshole is always Batman. There is no Bruce Wayne but, even then, you can find a happy medium a la Kevin Conroy, rest in peace. Snyder is terrible at this sh*t. None of the films he's written, have a character focus. It's all juvenile, edgelord, spectacle and convoluted, superficial, allegory. Every one of them. Sucker Punch is a perfect example of this sh*t. None of those plot devices has a character. There is no growth in anyone. There is a resolution but, at the end of the day, they are the same exact people on the last page of that "script", as they were on the first and WB gave the reins of their greatest character IPs to this man? Snyder does do decent work when he has a focus. When someone is there to rein him in, hes a fantastic creator. hat did not happen with the DCEU and it shows. Basically this entire franchise is Sucker Punch but with Capes.
When the narrative isn’t his own, Snyder can deliver a glitzy, if vapid, product. Think 300 or Watchmen. Left to his own devices, we get sh*t like Batman versus Superman: Dawn of Justice or Army of the Dead. The worst thing about this, though? The Snyderverse could have still worked if they just took the time to build it out properly. I am no fan of Zack Snyder, at all, but his films are very much technically sound and, if I'm being honest, man has great ideas. It's in the execution of these ideas that Snyder fails. He can't get out of his own way, which is why he should have never been the Feige for the DCEU. He doesn't have the clarity of vision for that, which makes building a decade long narrative nigh impossible. Snyder can't see the forest through the trees and WB thought he could. I don’t understand why, his entire catalog of personal projects is a clusterf*ck of bloat and feature creep, but whatever. All of that is changing as the franchise has a new steward. Two, actually, but we’re only talking about one: James Gunn. James Gunn can write characters. That’s his biggest strength. Guardians of the Galaxy worked because those characters were strong as f*ck. The Suicide Squad worked because those characters were strong as f*ck. Tell me you knew who Ratcatcher II was before this film. Tell me you gave two sh*ts about Polka-Dot man before Gunn wrote him so well. Gunn can make Superman feel like a proper character and, more to the point, make Superman feel like Clark. Gunn is everything the DCEU needed and now he has the opportunity to prove it. The Snyderverse is dead. Long live the Gunnverse.

I recently got into The Magnus Archives and it has quickly become an obsession, so when I noticed there weren’t any pins that were for positions in the archives of course I decided to spend my day making images of what I thought they’d look like.
And by some I mean a total of 95.
The ones above are just a small sampling of what I’ve done, if you want to download all of them look for the reblog which will have a link to the google drive folder.
EDIT: just noticed there aren’t any examples with the archival assistant title so here have my favorite designs for both styles that say archival assistant
The pins are separated out into categories so I’ll have a rundown below the cut if you want so that this post doesn’t get too long.
First the pins are divided into 2 categories
Owl Logo which has the circular owl that looks more like a normal logo
Vigilo-Opperior-Audio which has the more realistic owl with the Latin on top
Then the pins are divided into 5 categories
The Archivist which have the title of “The Archivist” on them if you feel like being an avatar of the eye and stealing Jon’s place
Head Archivist same as above but not quite eldritch terror in human skin yet
Archival Assistant same once again but with a higher death chance
Blank want a different title than the three above? Or maybe you want to work in a different department at the Magnus Institute? This is for you! Put your position in the blank area
No Title Just want to rep the Institute? Sure! These don’t have a title or a space for one, just the Institute name and logo
From there there’s just a bunch of different color options, the gold is there to mimic what it would look like if these were actual enamel pins (the gold being the metal and other color being the actual enamel) while there are versions that have green cause black and green is just the TMA aesthetic and these aren’t real pins anyway so I can do what I want

Seeking Literate Partners!
Disclaimer: Male authors, please stop contacting me. I've been burned too many times. If you persist, I'll ignore your message. Hello, you can call me Doe! I'm 25+ and a proud cat mom. I write multiple paragraphs/novella style (200-500+ words). I love to write detailed descriptions and delve into a character’s head/emotions as well as surroundings. I compare it to writing a novel together. I understand if the scene doesn’t have alot going on and therefore requires less like rapid fire. I adore having long, thoughtful replies where we truly immerse ourselves in the world. I'm hoping to find a partner whose as enthusiastic and passionate about the plot and writing as I am. When I get invested in a story, it’s 100% dedication. Getting a reply is the highlight of my day. I'm a big fan of romance and using face claims. I’m the type to make pinterest boards, spam you with gifs, headcanons, and send you songs that remind me of our characters and/or ship. I'll get excited if we come up with future plot ideas, or if our characters are being cute or angsty and I can yell about it in the chat. Last but not least I only do MxF (with myself in the female role) and don’t double, but I’m more than happy to write side characters of either gender to help move the story along. I'd highly prefer female authors writing male characters. Searching For - 21+ partners (Since people have asked, it's fine if you're 20) - For you to have an excellent grasp of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. Both in character and out of character. (Literate to advanced writers only, please. I'm not looking for newbies or those who have English as their second/third language). - Plot before smut. While mature themes will be in my plots, and are even encouraged, there needs to be chemistry between our characters. I like to have a good mix of plot and tastefully written smut, along with doses of angst and fluff. - For you to write as an older man (firmly 40s+/50s+). I'm a sucker for the gruff and tough men with dark pasts who secretly have a soft heart. I also love those grumpy, hypermasculine men being intimidated by soft yet commanding women. If you're uncomfortable writing large age gaps please don't bother contacting me. The youngest I'll go is early 20s for my girls. - Please be enthusiastic and invested when it comes to plotting/worldbuilding. There’s nothing worse than receiving one sentence in reply to two paragraphs of ideas, or having a doormat partner who says “sure” to whatever I ask. Tossing ideas back and forth, watching them snowball into amazing plot threads brings me joy. - Joining me in the wonderful world of ship/character development is kind of a must. It’s one of the things that makes writing with a partner so much fun. I also like to make friends with my partners! - While I'd prefer real life face claims, I'd also be open to using realistic art if you're uncomfortable with real life. I draw the line at anime/cartoon art. Faces I'd love to write as: gal gadot, rooney mara, ruth negga, saoirse ronan, sophie turner, jessica chastain, jennifer morrison, mia wasikowska, natalia dyer, brit marling, deborah ann woll, mackenzie davis, emmy rossum, adria adjora, chyler leigh, hayley bennet, tashi rodriguez, lily james, cara delevingne, maya hawke, katheryn winnick, elizabeth olsen, abigal cowen, sophia lillis lauren cohan, zoey deutsch, paulina singer, crystal reed, hayley lu richardson, ask about others Faces I'd love to write against: jeffery dean morgan, hugh jackman, robert taylor, jr bourne, jon bernthal, jason issacs, anthony varrecchiah, brett tucker, david harbour, frank grillo, iain glen, josh duhamel, patrick petitjean, ethan hawke, christian bale, rory mccann, younger sam elliot, titus welliver, viggo mortensen, joel miller (illustrated face), cillian murphy, ask about others If you've made it this far, thank you! You won't be disappointed in writing with me. I tend to be online daily and while I'd like it if you were too, I understand that real life things comes first. Let me know if you're going to
be inactive/can’t continue. If you suddenly stop replying ic and ooc, I'll drop the story after 2 attempts of gauging continued interest spaced a week apart. Below are genres and pairings I love. Feel free to combine as many as you'd like and I’m sure we can come up with something great! Current cravings are in bold. Two thing I don't do are slice of life and historical plots. Genres: - crimes in remote locations - spooky small towns - post apocalyptic/dystopia - supernatural/modern fantasy (A/B/O, werewolves, shapeshifters, werewolf x shifter, alpha x new werewolf, involuntary mate-bond, mating/claiming) - southern/mid western gothic - murder mystery (small town or big city) - modern/dark fairy tale retellings - sci-fi - cyberpunk/retro-futuristic - little coastal towns or little towns in the mountains - emotionally charged/dark and gritty - superpowers/gifted - unresolved sexual tension/slow burn - redemption - pacific northwest - suburban gothic - luring to the other side - reincarnation/multiple universes - western inspired + modern day (such as longmire) - christmas inspired - culture clash/two characters from different sides Pairings: - age gaps (older man x younger woman / 15 to 25+ year gap) - enemies to lovers/villain x heroine - cop x criminal - doctor x patient - friends turned lovers/pining - grumpy x sunshine - the broken man x the woman that becomes his light - fbi agents/cop partners - dark hearted man melting for the innocent woman - friend x best friend’s older sibling - boss x employee - neighbors - single father x friend - firefighter/cop x victim - mentor x mentee - hurt/comfort - height differences - pet names (sweetheart, baby girl, kid, kiddo) - lady and the tramp esque/class difference - creature x human/creature - ex-con x anyone - bodyguard x assignment - widow/er falling in love again - biker x civilian - rancher/mountain man x city girl - affair (with so's sibling, with so's friend, with neighbor) - hitman x target - serial killer x fbi agent - soul mates - experienced x inexperienced - local x vacationer - injured/scarred warrior washed out from their former glory x royal/heir-to-be (modern day / Sansa x Sandor inspired) - friend x best friend/boyfriend's father - daughter in law x father in law - park ranger x camper - bounty hunter x bounty - power imbalances Tropes/Themes: the papa wolf/hot dads, cultured badass, jerk with a heart of gold. ladykiller in love, mountain man, mysterious protector, southern gentleman, tall, dark, and handsome, knight in sour armor, red string of fate, villain takes an interest, porcelain to ivory to steel, when person a gets injured/kidnapped and person b goes absolutely feral to save them, cowboys tiny women and big men, the monster being treated gently for the first time in his life, two characters forced into positions where they have no choice but to reconcile their differences and grow together/trust each other, forbidden relationships, trying to escape childhood demons & reuniting in adulthood Fandoms: (I don't write canons or do canon x oc) Star Wars, X Files, Haven, Fringe, Stranger Things, Heroes, The Wolf Among Us, Mercy Thompson Series, True Blood, Marvel, The OA, Disney personified, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, Cyberpunk 2077 Plot Ideas: I have too many to list here but take a look at my google doc and let me know if anything catches your attention. For the character prompts: Jon, of course! And, if you’d like another, Danny :)
Jon:
general opinion: actual love of my life
hotness level: hot jon rights, i'm making a new category for him, hot in a feral, unhinged sort of way, i will die on this hill
hogwarts house: ravenclaw through and through
best quality: he! is full! of love! this man makes my heart hurt. he tries so hard to hang onto his humanity and he makes these awful, clumsy, human decisions which, at the end of the day, ends up being driven by the fact that he just. loves people. he was heartbroken over sasha when he discovered the not!them. he killed elias citing the friends he had lost. the hunters had a knife to his throat and he still was defending gerry's memory. he tried to save jordan kennedy in the only way he could. he loves in such a clumsy, human way and i love that for him. Alternative best quality: he's a total bitch and that's great
worst quality: the boy can't think two steps ahead to save his life. literally. he has almost died several times because he can't plan worth shit.
ship them with: martin, i love them together, but i also ship him with gerry? they shared exactly one (1) episode together but they had a fantastic dynamic in it and they both legitimately treated the other with respect as a person? which is just so huge for characters that were systematically abused and used? they're both people who are isolated and used and still trying to be good. it also just has a huge ships-in-the-night aspect to it. gerry was working with gertrude when jon was at the institute. they just missed each other. and maybe, if it hadn't, they could have had someone legitimately in their corner for once
brotp them with: tim. they! were! friends! I relistened to season 2 a few months ago and tim shows such genuine concern for jon towards the beginning, before it gets messed up. and in season 1, jon trusts him to look into the oliver banks statement when he was worried it was a prank from the other two. we see so little of their early friendship but they seemed to legitimately care for each other?
needs to stay away from: elias bouchard. jimmy magma. that man. my favorite part of nhthcth comments are all of the death threats elias gets. it's great.
misc. thoughts: he's just such a tragic character and he was human until the end. he was deeply flawed and i love that because it made him so human? he wasn't your typical hero protagonist. he was just. some guy. trying his best. and in the end, he didn't win. i love that. like, the real tragedy of jonathan sims is that he was human and failed in human ways, and losing his humanity was what people accused him of most.
Danny:
general opinion: actual love of my life
hotness level: absolutely off the charts hotness, he gets a new category too, this is not me saying this this is god's truth, canonically he is obscenely hot
hogwarts house: gryffindor, my only character inspiration for him was himbo and all the boy wants to do is explore exceedingly dangerous places, the boy is just here for a good and potentially fatal time
best quality: he's very straightforward in what he wants? i'm speaking specifically of him from nhthcth, i don't have much to work with when it comes to canon danny, but like, he doesn't get caught up in a balancing risk and reward like most people. he's going straight for the gold and not getting caught up in logistics. like, he's not willing to play the sacrifice game. tim is. tim is willing to say, i'll sacrifice myself to this job because it gives danny better odds. danny would have said tough shit, we're going to succeed on the shitty odds because that's the one that actually saves us all, fuck off bouchard. like, he would die for the people he loves but he's not going to crucify himself or anyone else early. he's very solid in what he wants and what he's willing to do to get there but he's very hard to play because he's going to go the distance even if it's risky
worst quality: he will not. fucking. back down. ever. which can be a good quality in some things but it can be a really really bad quality in others. he's stubborn as shit and willing to go to ridiculous lengths to realize what he wants and sometimes that leads him to be way more reckless than is necessarily good for himself or for his greater team. he's also kind of bad with nuance? like, with jon, jon's a good person to him. he does good things with his powers. jon is good and what he does is good. simple as that. which means he fails to grasp the sheer cost of the powers and how they're legit bad to use. like, this isn't one of those things where the power is a tool and all that matters is how you use it. the power is feeding an evil god and if you use it, you're choosing to torture the person on the receiving end every single night for the rest of their lives. and yeah, jon's using it against bad people, but the act itself is bad. doesn't necessarily mean jon picked wrong when he decided to do it that way, but it does mean that jon picked something bad.
ship them with: nhthcth danny is actually aroace and has no prospects in my mind
brotp them with: jon. i love him and jon as friends. danny legitmately does not want to use jon, which is something nhthcth jon needs so badly. danny really just thinks he's a cool guy he'd like to get to know and he'd treat jon like a person, not someone who can help him get what he wants. even tim is guilty of that, to an extent. jon is tim's way of saving his brother. for danny, jon is a huge part of keeping him alive, yeah, but he doesn't want jon in his life because it's helping him. he thinks jon is a great person to have in his life because he's the sort of guy who would risk his life for a stranger. also, he's an absolute riot, holy shit, keep saying those words you crazy magic man
needs to stay away from: Grimaldi, the clown wants to peel him like an orange
misc. thoughts: kind of heart, dumb of ass. force of chaos. love is stored in the danny.
