i genuinely think it would do insane things for him. healing wounds he didn't even know he had.

they both say things like "ya darn skippy, playa-play" and "ding ding" and "good gosh darned", they're both eldest brothers who are ride-or-die over a Bad Call, they both have such bravado,,,

something something john actually being able to relax a little, let someone else take care of him for a change, and dickory feeling fluffed by actually being entrusted to do so, not underestimated or looked down on. they'd make each other laugh, neither is too proud to do something ridiculous to get a job done LIKE

like, i know from a narrative standpoint that this excerpt is designed to make floyd look even more sympathetic to the audience; framing the brothers' disbandment as a 'well they stormed off first' kind of deal.

but!!!

... the absolute agony of could have.

could have kept everyone together. could have talked them through their issues. could have spared them so much of the heartache he never wanted any of his family to go through.

like!!!! all this unforeseeable anguish lying in wait, maybe entirely avoidable if floyd had just ... asked for it. if he maybe talked about his own feelings on the matter. if he hadn't buried them in inscrutable boyband puns, in an effort to comfort a confused three year old. if he had maybe made this expression somewhere that somebody could see it.

we all love the 'quietly bears the bulk of emotions' trope in fiction but man. martyrdom as character flaw my beloved....

It turns out even if you say you’re burnt out and need a break life just doesn’t care. Tonight Chester’s heart failed and we lost the most evil bastard I’ve ever welcomed into my home. He’s had liver disease since before I ever adopted him and just a year or two ago doc diagnosed him with heart disease.

He viewed me as the home wrecker that was trying to come between himself and Joey until the very end. But he was a good (albeit intense) boyfriend to Joey for the last 3 and a half years. He would hate to hear me say it but I loved him and he will be very missed. He was a big presence.
