Marvel and the comic book industry was invented and built off the hard work of Jewish Americans and Jewish Immigrants in the 1930s as a response to antisemitism and the holocaust. There are explicit Jewish characters in the comics but were erased when they turned into live-action films.
The MCU has erased the Jewish aspects in the their films and have had little to no Jewish people involved, and one of the first times the hire a Jewish actor to play a Jewish character who does not have their identity erased you want to boycott it.
(We love Andrew Garfield in this house. He is a Jewish person, but Peter Parker/Spider-Man's Jewish identity was still erased in his films.)
You should not get to enjoy any art and media made by Jewish people. Part of the reason why so many Jewish people work in arts is because up until recently the entertainment industry was considered a joke. Jewish people were excluded from many other professions.

Marvel execs: An Israeli character is too controversial. With everything going on, we just can’t show any kind of support for that country.
Also Marvel execs: Let’s make the character Russian!

There is something incredibly Jewish about the symbolism of Bucky's submersion into the Potomac in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and then later the water below the helipad in Captain America: Civil War. In both cases, the water acts as a Mikvah of sorts, from which he enters as the Winter Soldier and emerges from, purified, as Bucky Barnes.

Consider: Bucky's parents naming him James Buchanan to try and give him more opportunities by giving him a name that won't be flagged as Jewish.
His parents being deeply concerned that their children will have opportunities stripped from them because of bias. This still affecting him when he's older because to be Jewish means it's incredibly difficult, and straight up forbidden at some, to attend college.
His family being proud of their Jewish heritage and religion but accepting that they need to give their children as many opportunities as possible.
All of this meaning that when Bucky 'died', his Jewish identity was stripped from him in memorial, partly due to antisemitism and partly due to ignorance because why would some people think that James Buchanan Barnes was Jewish?
Something Bucky himself struggled to identify with and only did privately.
Bucky's siblings, especially Rebecca, trying in vain to have his Jewish identity recognised after his death, but failing.
Bucky reconnecting with his Jewishness after he's freed from HYDRA and seeing just how much of him was erased to make way for propaganda (comics, war museums) where all he is is a sidekick/friend to Steve.

I'm ngl I get raising awareness but seeing ppl draw like. cutesy fanart of their faves waving palestinian flags feels so dystopian & a little disrespectful/tone deaf. or posting about how "fave character from x show would support palestine" like. there's no problem imo w still participating in fandom while bad things happen in the world but it just gets very odd and tone deaf when we start crossing them over. like there's people dying, I really don't know that it's appropriate to bring up how glup shitto would oppose that. maybe you as your own person can do that on your own perhaps? without making it about fandom? like idk! it's just odd behavior To Me.

i really don't think it's a coincidence that it's anthony mackie's movie where they decided to showcase a zionist israeli as a hero because when it (hopefully) flops racists will just say it's proof nobody wants sam as captain america and we all know marvel would rather have that and completely ignore those who rightfully say it's because they decided to show an iof piece of human garbage as a hero; they've had ample opportunity to remove her part, and it would have been a perfect time to shut all the racists up because it was a chance for anthony to shine in his first solo captain america movie but we will simply not be watching

Marvel Studios will not erase the Israeli identity of the superhero Sabra, who will be played by Israeli actress Shira Haas in the upcoming Marvel film “Captain America: Brave New World,” two insiders with knowledge of the movie confirmed to TheWrap on Wednesday.
After Marvel Studios released a synopsis for the 2025 superhero movie last week that revealed Sabra will not be depicted as a Mossad agent, like she is in the comics, some fans expressed disappointment in changes done to the superhero’s backstory and ties to Israel. Marvel described the character in the upcoming film as a “high-ranking US government official” and former “Black Widow,” like the assassin characters played by Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh in other Marvel projects.
However, Sabra’s real name will remain Ruth Bat-Seraph in the film, as it is in the comics. She will also speak with an Israeli accent while being played by Haas in the upcoming “Captain America” film, insiders told TheWrap, clarifying that audiences will know the character is Israeli, despite other changes to the superhero. One insider explained that Sabra’s backstory for “Captain America: Brave New World” was always going to be changed from how she is portrayed in the comics, and that the decision to make her a former Black Widow instead of a Mossad agent was unrelated to recent world events or the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel.
Marvel has faced criticism regarding the inclusion of the Sabra character in “Captain America: Brave New World” since it was first announced in 2022. At the time, the studio made it clear that the character might be changed from how she is depicted in the comics. “While our characters and stories are inspired by the comics, they are always freshly imagined for the screen and today’s audience, and the filmmakers are taking a new approach with the character Sabra who was first introduced in the comics over 40 years ago,” Marvel Studios said in a statement.
The superhero Sabra first appeared in the Marvel comic book “The Incredible Hulk” in 1980. In the comics, she is an Israeli mutant and agent for the Mossad. She also worked as an Israeli police officer as a cover. Her superpowers include superhuman strength, speed, stamina, a regenerative healing power, and the ability to charge others by transferring her life force to them. Her superhero costume was blue and white — the same colors as Israel’s flag — and her outfit featured a Star of David. “Sabra” is a term in Hebrew used to describe someone who is native to Israel.
The first teaser trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World” was released last week.
Geez, things change so quickly around here. TGAJ

Or, what if Bucky Barnes forgot everything, except for his Jewishness. I wrote a fic about that.
I think it's a pretty common to headcanon Bucky as jewish. I say he's jewish AND he knows Yiddish too.
Also, I am currently learning yiddish, but I'm in no way fluent!!!! If you're fluent and notice something weirdly translated, I apologize. Let me know if I need to change anything!!
By the way, the title is from a song by Daniel Kahn of the same name. Check it out here.

Since it’s Rosh Hashanah I have some new spider hawk fam head cannons:
✡️🕷️🏹🍎🍯🍞🕯️✡️🕯️🍞🍯🍎🏹🕷️✡️
- Natasha and Kate tried to make challah bread… only they forgot that it was in the oven. Let’s just say that Maria and Yelena banned the two from the kitchen again.
- Peter, Kate, Yelena, Wanda, and Pietro (with their mini shofar horns) scaring Bucky and Steve while they were cuddling on the couch.
- Yelena and Kate have an apple eating contest. Peter won (even though he wasn’t a part of it) because Kate and Yelena got into a food fight with the apples and honey.
- Maria and Bucky can make a mean apple honey cake. Natasha and Yelena will fight over who gets the last slice.
- Natasha, Yelena, Wanda, and Kate lighting the candles while reciting the blessings.
- Bucky blowing the shofar. Follow by Peter, Wanda, Pietro, Yelena, and Kate with their mini shofars.

Took me a second to realize that Harrison Ford is now Thaddeus Ross!
I'm looking forward to seeing this. I'm anxious about how they'll handle Ruth Bat-Seraph's Israeli heritage, and was very relieved to see her in this trailer.

when trying to write a nice little fic of Bucky cooking for Peter and end up writing about how much Peter reminds Bucky of himself as little orphan kid having to be a parent to his three younger siblings and breaking down crying in Sarah Rogers arms when she tells him "it's alright sweetheart"
