that one part of Jekyll and Hyde where Jekyll says “ It was the curse of mankind that these incongruous faggots were thus bound together” is so funny to me because I know he’s referring to the old fashioned bundle of sticks but like. Cmon. It’s so much funnier to think that Jekyll was writing his statement and really went ah shit those two evil gay ass motherfuckers being bound together is the worst thing that could’ve happened in the history of ever.

The surgical tools are in place, I think, although I placed them purely based on aesthetic. These are not what the tools in the actual surgery would’ve looked like. The doctors actually put you in a tank of nutritious liquid to operate on you so they would probably need different tools than these normal ones to work in that stuff, and they would probably have more futuristic tools anyway.
Tumblr media
Here it is with the boys at full opacity (except for Jekyll s lineart to make him look more painterly), the light from the portal visible, and the parts of the tools outside the border covered up. I think I like it better when the tools were fully visible, I’ll have to expand the border.
All of the lines in this (including the frame) was done free hand btw, and I’m very proud of it

Ok i think it s time i show tumblr my jekyll and hyde character designs.
Them!
Tumblr media
Ok so, i was reading the book for the second time and Utterson's description comes up and, listen, I HAD A VISION. I absolutely love the "lean, long, dusty, dreary and yet somehow lovable" middle aged man description, you don't understand. This book is peak, you just don t get fire lines like "if he be mister Hyde, i shall be mister Seek" in contemporarty fiction anymore.
And, as much as i need a low budget victorian twink anime adaptation of the story, IT WOULD GO SO HARD as one of those obscure and very whimsical european animated films [those ones with an artstyle, if you know what i mean, very shape, and with lots of funky textures (maybe)]
So i took it upon myself to design the characters! I shall now yap about them.
Utterson is pretty straight foreward, he is indeed very lovable, can confirm. He is the reason i started making these designs.
Hyde was a hard one because, yes he's drscribed a lot in the book, but no one ever mentions any particular traits. Like, my bro, "deform, but with no nameable deformity" doesn't fucking help?? Instead i drew him in a slightly different art style (most notably, i gave him irises, yes, very evil trait indeed). Can't say i wasn't influenced by the MazM game with the hairstyle :3
Jekyl..uhhh..he's kinda just there i guess.
Oh oh and also, throughout this supposed movie i imagine you don't get to see Hyde's face until what happens in the last chapter (like, his face would be cast in shadow, or hidden by funky composition idk), also because no one in the book can describe him propperly, very ambiguous litte man.
Shitposts were due, as suggested by my friends:

Enfield said Hyde "carried on...like Satan" in the first chapter, and then the maid says he "carried on... like a madman" when he killed Carew. The way it changes connotation from "this guy isn't human" to "this guy is one of us gone wrong" at the exact time the boundaries between Jekyll and Hyde started to blur. The way that seemingly insignificant change of words completely changes the nature of what Hyde is-- from satanic spawn to regrettably human. I hate you robert louis stevenson you make being an author look easy.

Stanford Henry Pines and William Edward Cipher - Jekyll and Hyde AU designs :3
Art based on the artwork of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by: Ivan Shavrin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead of wanting to separate one's being through a potion, like Jekyll, Stanford is interested in investigating parallel universes and finding out if he can project parts of people that they didn't want onto an alternative version of themselves, getting rid of the negative side easily. He found out about William through a book that appeared in his lab after coming home from a failed pitch for his research and summoned him. William lies saying that he knows how to make an interdimensional portal that would serve as an access point to a giant network of dimensions, he offers his guidance and knowledge in exchange for control of Ford's mind and body. He then instructed Stanford on how to create a drug that would prevent neural connections and transmissions to allow easier access to his brain.
William would use this drug with previous researchers or even large groups of people (cults) to facilitate possession and control and make the mind weaker to his influence over time, which is how he was able to intrude without it later on

I hate my life I need to (remembers suicide and self harm jokes are bad for my mental health) write up an analysis on all of the themes and motifs present in Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, and 20000 leagues under the sea and how they all contributed to modern sci-fi and literature
