The thing that surprised Tim the most about dating Jason was how funny the man could be. He knows it isn't fair when Jason's always had a mouth on him. i think tim is high maintenance the way a boarder collie or austrialian shepherd is. like you have to make sure they're not only given space to expend energy but you have to specifically let them get the herding instinct out and challenge them intellectually or they start destroying ur home

i think it's funnier if Tim also doesn't know and half the fun for Jason is getting to stare down Tim and make Tim wonder what on earth is going through Jason's head. he'd probably assume it's an intimidation tactic, or Jason thinking about all the ways he wants to kill Tim. it's delightful miscommunication of Tim being wary around Jason, always expecting a fight. and Jason damn well knows it, but he does nothing to correct Tim's assumption. He likes seeing Tim tense and ready to throw hands at a moment's notice. Jason just likes seeing what Tim is capable of, knowing how dangerous the little rich kid is. he wants to see how long he can stare before Tim breaks and asks him what his problem is.

and of course, Bruce, Alfred, and Dick are obvious. Cass is curious but not interfering because she just wants to see where this goes. Bruce is so caught up in the happiness of Jason finally playing nice for once pulling his punches and being willing to listen to Bruce that he's overlooking the obvious tension. Jason hasn't actually hurt Tim yet, so Bruce can't get mad for a little staring. he reminds Tim to just not sink to Jason's level.

when Tim does break and he does call Jason out for it, Jason just makes a lewd comment. just to throw Tim off and see how Tim reacts. it sends Tim sputtering and doubting Jason. he calls Jason's bluff and well. we all know how that ends.

The lights to the townhome are mostly out… save for the single lamp in the window. And Jason’s heart warms at the shallow glow because that means somehow he’d known that Jason would be returning tonight. 

Somehow he always knows.

Jason walks the motorbike the final block to the house. The thing is loud, which he usually enjoys. But tonight… he doesn’t want to run the risk of waking any sleeping occupants. So instead, he quietly stashes the bike beside the garage and hoofs it to the front door, pulling out a key that had been made specifically for him. 

He loves the way the townhouse welcomes him home. How, although it belongs to someone else on paper, as soon as he steps through the door it greets him as if he's always belonged there too. 

On the crooked end table with a single glowing lamp, there's a stack of books that he recently finished reading from the library, all long overdue. And his jackets... those are all neatly hanging from the coat hanger while another's lay stale and untouched in an ever-growing heap on the floor. 

Even the fridge is marked with his presence, occupied with tupperware full of stir fry. His recipe... though it had been made by someone else in his absence. 

And technically, he could go to his room. Tim had made sure that he knew that it always belonged to him. Even from the very beginning. 

So at first Jason considers it.  The door’s wide open and waiting for him. And it’s what he usually does when he gets into town late; they’re considerate of each other’s sleep schedule like that. 

But... it’s Valentine's Day. Or it was Valentine's Day, he thinks, looking down at his watch and seeing the short hand point at the 2:00. And while Jason’s not a sap for all that capitalist bullshit, he finds himself teetering on his feet in front of his doorway, side-eyeing his bed that looks so cold and lonely in the dark.

“Fuck it,” he decides, turning on his heels and striding into the room across from his. Timmy might get a little pissy about being woken up but he’d just have to live with it for one night. It’s Valentine's Day, or was… and god dammit if Jason isn't feeling a little sentimental. Sue him.

He sounds a lot tougher in his mind, but his actions tell a different story as he slowly nudges the door open, cringing at the resulting creak of old hinges. Had it always been so loud?

Of course, Tim startles, his eyes blearily opening, the pupils constricting at the sudden light. “Jay?” he asks, “Everything okay?”

Jason feels instantly bad. Like he said, they never do this, not unless something’s wrong. So Tim’s instant concern isn’t totally baseless. Usually they give each other a day to adjust to the timezones and whatnot before inexplicably finding themselves in each other’s beds. Intertwined for however long they're both in town… which isn’t as often as either of them would like. 

“Yeah, all good, just…” Jason pauses, a little embarrassed to say the words out loud. He was really counting on Tim being asleep. And goddammit, the little smile that crawls across Tim’s face makes him want to bury his head in a hole. 

“I didn’t take you for a Valentine’s sort of guy,” Tim teases, that little sleepy smirk so fucking annoying. And yet, Jason feels himself unraveling in ways that he can’t put words to.

He swears, “...Just scoot over, will you?”

Tim lets out a small laugh but opens the covers anyway. Jason’d already showered at his new safehouse so he doesn’t feel bad as he crawls into the sheets. But he doesn’t think Tim would mind either way. 

Tim doesn’t turn around, preferring to face Jason as he lays his head back down. They could only manage to fit a twin mattress in the room so it forces them to shift close. Jason sure as hell doesn’t care as their foreheads touch on their shared pillow. 

And god, if Jason doesn’t feel like a man with his whole world in his hands. Tim’s warmth so all encompassing that slowly he feels the tension in his muscles lessen, unwinding with every breath that flutters against his cheek. Tim’s breath is still minty from brushing, giving away that he’d probably stayed up too late… again.

Sighing, Jason settles his hand on Tim’s cheek, adoring the contrasting sensations of the impossibly soft skin under Tim’s eyes and the rough stubble over his jawline. Just another indicator that he’d been working too hard. 

Ah well, it just means that Jason needs to stay longer this time. 

Jason’s fingers rest against Tim’s jawline before he grips gently, using the leverage to press their foreheads together.

“I missed you,” he breathes, holding back so much more that he want’s to say because it’s late, and Tim’s tired, and he doesn’t get enough sleep these days as is. 

And really? All that Jason wants to say has been said before and can be said again once morning comes.

Jason plans to spend his whole life saying it. A whole life proving how it’s true.

Damian stared down at a decent shed of his reptile. He had been examining it for quite a while, feeling the bumps and scales in it.

Dick: 🤮

Damian: shut the fuck up. Don’t act like I don’t see you and Bruce stare at your Biore strips at least once a week for far longer than you should.

Dick: that- that’s different.

Damian: yeah, since staring at your giant ass black heads isn’t gross.

Jason snorted.

Damian: you’re no better. I always catch you looking at your snot rags.

Jason: hey! Gotta check the color! Just like your shits.

Tim: ok, that’s gross.

Damian: you, oh you, Timmy boy. You’re the worst.

Tim and him had a stare down. Damian just gave a smirk; he didn’t have to say it because they both knew what it was that Tim does.

Jason: what.

Damian returned to the shed.

Dick: what? What does he do?!

Tim shoved off of the couch, his hands shoving in his pockets as he began to leave.

Tim: he’s studying the snake skin because he found it by the couch you’re sitting on and is trying to figure which of them is missing.

Jason: Snakes?

Dick: the snakes he stole from the pet store to ‘save’ them? That Bruce made him return? One escaped?

Both Dick and Jason went pale.

Damian gave a sly smirk as they were then shrieking and climbing on each other to try and get off of the ground.

He did nothing. Tim, he did nothing gross. And Damian never returned the snakes, as if he would. He complained until Bruce bought them. This was a shed he’d pulled from one of their terrariums.

It was all a game to fuck with the other two. And they would never know.

Fuck Or Die SoulMate AU - JayTim?

The entire family was there at breakfast. Including Stephanie, who'd obviously had to come and watch. Tim didn't mind- the weirdness and few 'what the fuck' moments both had after their break up long gone. He would rather her not have a shit eating grin but he had to admit... it was kind of funny.

Okay, no, it was funny. More so when Stephanie decided to torment his siblings. Particularly a very pale Dick.

"Moving funny, hmm?" Stephanie piped up. "Did you use lube?"

The whine from Dick was not human.

"We did," Tim replied. "All times, we weren't that far gone." He gingerly sat down at the table, wincing as an arch of pain hit him. Stephanie cackled, a wolf whistle leaving her lips.

"Damn boy. Nice hickies. I assume you gave as good as you got?" she asked, eyes sparkling as Damian made a disgusted noise.

"Must we?" the thirteen-year-old demanded. "Todd and Drake fornicating due to their bond is not necessary information, though Drake being the bottom makes sense," Damian smirked at Tim, who calmly sipped the tea at his plate.

That was when Jason walked in, moving slowly as well. Unlike Tim, who'd at least worn a shirt to hide the scratches and bites on his torso, the other man forwent it.

Bruce's face, originally impassive, became exhausted, the man pinching his nose. Given the amount of bites and hickies on Jason... yeah. Tim got it.

Stephanie let out another wolf whistle as Duke subtly gave Tim a thumbs up. The whistling got louder when Jason sat next to Tim, winced and stood up to grab a cushion.

"Get it!" Stephanie cackled.

"Oh, we did, and will continue to," Tim grinned.

Like hell was he going to let this pass by.

WIP Wednesday! I have two this week: last week's Hanahaki fic, and a JayTim soulmate AU (never thought I'd write one of those) based loosely off some old Tiktoks from another fandom where people can "hear" the music their soulmate listens to or has stuck in their head. I've also made a playlist for it, and let me say, it's chaotic. I head canon Jason as having a pretty diverse music taste, but for Tim I stuck with what we see in canon (thank you @doesthebatfamknowpopculture for all the screenshots of Tim's various band posters/shirts). Little weird to go between a heavy angst fic and one that's essentially just Tim and Jason being a little unhinged, but pretty fun.

Hanahaki

"The reason I plan to increase contact is that it can help abate the spread of the flowers. I know, it doesn't make much sense, but nothing about this disease does. Since it's so rare, there's not much research on how any of it works, but believe me when I say I plan to do my best to slow the spread of the roots. In addition to talking to you more, I plan on taking more missions with the Titans. Spending time with them and being outside Gotham are likely both going to help slow the spread and lessen my symptoms, but I don't know if they can be fully reversed by it. Like I said, not much research to go off of.

"And I'm sure you noticed me avoiding what actually causes Hanahaki disease. I could keep talking in circles about it, but if I did you'd just look it up yourself and I think it's better you hear it from me."

Soulmate AU

He clicked onto their private comm line and flatly said, "Hood." A few seconds passed by and he sighed, realizing Jason must've switched to the main comm line. Immediately, Steph and Damian's voices were in his ear, arguing about… something. He didn't care enough to try to figure it out, simply repeating, "Hood."

The effect was immediate. Steph and Damian cut themselves off, the line falling silent. Jason replied, "sorry, sorry," and clicked off the line, presumably back to their private line. Tim sighed again, and clicked off the line just as someone started to talk, probably to ask what that was about. He didn't care, too focused on getting the still going song to end.

i personally have very complicated feelings on the Gotham Knights video game and the routes it takes with characterization. i think it has a charm to it and it goes in an interesting direction with everyone (especially within the confides of the plot of the game) but it does have certain moments that veer painfully fanon for me. (such as: the dialogue where Tim drinks too much coffee) it's an interesting story for what it is but i don't view it comics-based for characterization and therefore don't care to interact with it much for like. fanfic purposes.

that *said* though. i do have to give the game some kind of credit for giving one of the top five JayTim moments that lives rent free in my mind. every since i played the game, the cutscene lives in my mind daily. it's the specific cutscene where Jason and Tim are arguing about whether or not Jason's non-lethal bullets are too dangerous for the field, and the argument leads to TIm *standing in front of the target* Jason is shooting and telling Jason to shoot him. it lives rent free for me. i never stop thinking about this.

the absolute certainty Tim has that he is in no danger standing in front of Jason, who has a loaded gun pointed at his face. the way Jason *hesitates* for just a moment before lowering the gun. he thinks about it for just a second. Gotham Knights JayTim seem to get along very well and can rely on each other, but Jason still clearly holds a bitterness about his death and Tim that flickers through in some lines of dialogue under the guise of jokes. especially since this game deals *heavily* with concepts of Pit Madness causing an altered state of consciousness, i think it's believable that occasionally, Jason fights the urge to fight and hurt Tim for the feeling of being replaced.

i like their tension so much in this canon. they get along but you can *tell* Tim is afraid of addressing Jason's trauma or even addressing Jason head-on, and Jason leans into spooking Tim about it. which isn't very comics feeling in their dynamic, but it is an interesting way to place their dynamic if you're playing with a more timid Tim who's newer to the role of Robin. (which he seems to be in-game) he really doesn't want to offend Jason, or worse, piss him off. but he'll still face Jason head on for things like this, while completely aware of what Jason could be capable of.

and Jason seems very protective of Tim and respecting Tim as a Robin in typical Jason fashion. if Tim pushes, Jason *will* relent. he knows this is a kid who's proved himself and should be treated with equal respect, sometimes even more than Dick and Babs do in-game.

so for all that to culminate in Tim stepping in front of Jason's loaded gun that he *knows* is on the edge of being too dangerous, just to force Jason to listen? it's the most unhinged way Tim could've gotten his point across in this scene. he was literally daring Jason to hurt him and playing with a very dangerous fire. but he did it anyway bc he believed he could make Jason heel just at the thought of hurting Tim. and he was *right*. they're gay and i'm feral ty.
