What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out as a writer
I think the best advice I have is just keep writing for as long as it brings you joy. You will improve the more you do anything.
It can be hard to step into an established fandom, especially one that maybe isn't as active as it once was, but there will always be people who have their lives made a little better by your stories. That's honestly just such a beautiful thing to me. If you get lost in the hits, kudos, comments and stats, it can become this pressure-filled exercise where you are trying to achieve an arbitrary metric that you think will be enough to make you happy. It won't. You inevitable crave more. Those dopamine hits are wild. So, I guess my second piece of advice is write what you love and what makes you happy, secure in the knowledge that it will make others happy, too. Try to let that shared joy be enough.
And...welcome! If you're writing for Stony, hope you come join the Discord. Best way to find readers is to make friends!

It's a little surprising that the "Monday's child is fair of face" nursery rhyme never caught on as an arbitrary personality-assigner in the same way astrology did. It makes the same amount of sense.

I don't think it's entirely fair to say that it's a unique aspect of age or site culture when people on bluesky reply to algorithmic feed posts as if they are personally being spoken to, because it's pretty common, it just manifests differently based on behaviour encouraged by site format
the version of this encouraged by tumblr's design is definitely that thing where someone sees a post in which op is describing a behaviour they hate, which prompts someone who doesn't know op to say "but I do this" because, if not exactly coming off as targeted at you, the dash format does encourage people to read every post as "from my friend" or "from someone my friend knows"
and of course that usually ends catastrophically because a complete stranger just entered a conversation with someone by opening on "hello, I do something you hate, do you like me"

the “but he wouldn’t [do/say] that!!” discourse is wasted inside the DC fandom, because every time it comes up, someone manages to dredge up a comic panel of them doing or saying exactly that and then people just start arguing even louder than before

Actually it is deeply funny to me how the Batman fandom does not acknowledge Harold in any capacity so when I first saw him in comics I was fully jumpscared by “who the hell is this motherfucker”
Anyway more fics need to feature the full on Hunchback of Notre Dame subplot that apparently went down in the Batcave
I want Tim or Dick to offhandedly mention missing him or something while the newer kids are like what the fuck are you talking about what do you mean
