The beating of my heart drowned out the sound of the doorbell as I stood outside of my parents house. Though this event happens every year it still doesn’t quell the amount of anxiety and pain I feel, even after 20 years. In 1995 I didn’t only lose my brother Luke, I lost my boyfriend Reggie. Oh even the thought of their names makes my eyes water and my throat close up.
The door finally swung open after what felt like a century. Seeing dad standing there brought up feelings I had tried to run away from, feelings I tried to fix and shut out but never truly could. He pulled me into a tight hug and wiped some of my tears away. This is how it went every single year on his birthday, no one truly spoke but everyone knew there was nothing to say.
I still remember the night Luke ran away. My parents tried their best to pry where he was staying out of me but I never let them, I just couldn’t betray my brother like that. Besides they treated him terribly after they found out about the band. I guess I still blame them for him never coming home.
After the candle was blown out and the cake was cut I took mine into Luke’s room to eat. I knew he’d be proud since our parents used to be super strict about no food in the bedroom and I wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity. His room was still the same, even after 20 years. Posters of his favorite bands hung on the walls, his guitar sat on its stand in the corner. I only knew one song that he taught me, but it’s become the only thing that feels close to him. The strings hadn’t been replaced in years and I could see the exact spot where his fingers had worn away the metal leaving it smooth and thin. It still sounded beautiful after all this time.
I felt something in the room shift. Goosebumps formed on my arms as I felt something soft wrap around me. It was barely there. If I wasn’t paying attention I would’ve missed it entirely with how the air seemed to wrap around me. Tears fell down my face as I put the guitar up and grabbed the empty plate, trying to make sense of what happened.

It wasn’t even a few days later when there was another ring from the doorbell. Dad answered it and let the girl inside.
“Julie lives in the house the band used to rehearse in,” Dad said as I walked into the living room, “She was just telling me she found a song that Luke wrote.”
“It’s a song about a girl named Emily?” Julie questioned.
Mom gasped, “I’m Emily…”
“Then I think your son may have written this song for you,” Julie said.
I took the paper out of her hands slowly, looking over my brother's handwriting and scribbles that covered the paper. I turned to my mom and nodded while handing it to her.
“I need some air,” I said. I walked out the front door and leaned against the hood of my car trying to catch my breath.
It wasn’t too long after that Julie finally walked outside. She saw me and put her hands in her back pockets before walking over slowly.
“Your Luke’s sister?” she asked.
“Yes,” I said, I wiped the tears off of my face, “and Reggie’s girlfriend back in the day.”
“Oh,” she said, I could tell she was shocked and I giggled at her wide eyes.
I took a deep breath, “Did you find his songwriting notebook? I’ve tried searching for it for years, it wasn’t in his stuff when he…”
“He must’ve left it in the garage before he left that night, and it’s there now. It’s one that I found. Do you want it back?”
“No,” I said, “I don’t think I have the strength to look through them all, and honestly I don’t want to know how many sappy love songs he wrote about the girls he chased when he was younger.”
Julie laughed and I joined her, it felt good to finally be able to talk to someone about my brother.
“Julie?” I asked, “Did you find any of Reggie’s stuff?”
Julie took a pause before responding, “Yes I found some of his jackets in the garage.”
“Would you mind to bring some of them?” I asked.
She nodded before pausing again, “Did you ever move on? After that night?”
I sighed and looked down at the ground, “I lost both my brother, my best friend, and my boyfriend in the same night. It’s hard to move on after that. Losing not one but three of the people you love can change you.”
Julie nodded before pulling another piece of paper out of her back pocket, “I asked your parents if I could perform some of their songs, I think you should come.”
“Thank you Julie, I’d love to. You know I was their number one fan right? I always got to sit in at practice and got their shirts before they were for sale. I guess I didn’t want to listen to their music at all after everything that happened.”
“They wouldn’t want you to lock music out of your life, just know they died while going after their dreams. Not many people get to do that.”
I nodded before pulling her into a hug. She waved as she walked off leaving just me and the paper she gave me. I opened it up and a smaller white piece of paper fell on the ground. The first paper, bright pink and vibrant, read Julie and the Phantoms Live!
The white piece of paper was obviously from my brother's songwriting book, scribbled at the top of the page in Reggie’s handwriting was (Y/n)’s song.

The Opheum. The same place my brothers passed away over 20 years ago now. I found Julie’s dad near the front row and took my place next to them at the wall separating the fans from the stage. Julie appeared on stage finally and delivered a short speech dedicating the song to her mom and her friends. I was confused as the notes to Stand Tall started playing, I wrote this with Luke a month before he died. Where did she get this? My answer came as slowly each member of Sunset Drive appeared on stage in front of me. Tears formed in my eyes as I saw the people I loved the most show up after 20 years of thinking they were gone. After a big finale and a standing ovation Julie finally walked backstage and she had asked me to meet her back there after the show.
“Julie I- what was that? Are they really here?” I said as I rushed up to her.
“Hold on,” she said as she pulled me into the dressing room, she closed the door and turned back to me, “I’m going to tell you but I don’t want you to freak out or think I’m crazy.”
“Julie I just saw the three people I thought were dead for 20 years play an opening act on stage, if anyones crazy it’s obviously me.”
Julie took a big breath and went into the entire story of how she formed a band with my three ghost best friends and managed to convince everyone that it was a hologram. And then how a creepy demon dude branded them and is trying to force them to join his club and they have to avoid it by finding their unfinished business to be able to cross over. By the end of it I was leaning back in the chair I sat down in and rubbing my face.
“So they’re here?” I asked.
“Yes, well, kinda.”
“And people can only see them when they’re playing?” I said as I pushed my hair back.
“Yes,” she said, “and I know I know it doesn’t seem real but I can prove it to you.”
“How?”
“Follow me to my house.”
_______________________________________________
I drove behind them on the way home and waited for Julie to give me the signal to come inside.
“You know Luke wrote Stand Tall as a duet for me?”
Julie turned to me with wide eyes, “Oh- uh, no I didn’t. I’m so sorry.”
“Don’t be Julie, I’m so glad he finally got to perform it with someone,” I said with tears brimming my eyes
“Don’t you still want to be with him?” Julie asked.
I raised my eyes, “With Reggie?”
She nodded.
“I’ve aged 20 years Julie, and spent most of that time believing he was gone. I moved on. Maybe if I could see him again I would, but I don’t really know if people would find it weird a 36 year old is dating someone who hasn’t aged.”
Julie laughed before I could continue, “I’m just happy he finally got to live his dream, and I’ll always be your biggest fan.”
She led me out in the garage that my brothers had practiced in when they were in high school. I looked around and saw how much had changed over the years, a grand piano sat in the back that I had never seen before. The lights were still off but I could see the outline of the couch and furniture and instruments scattered around.
“I never got to say goodbye before they crossed over,” Julie sighed and I rubbed her shoulder, “Or tell them thank you.”
I heard a whisper come from inside the studio and Julie whipped around to turn on the lights. I couldn’t see who she was talking to but I knew it was them.
“I thought you crossed over?”
My face furrowed in confusion, “What’s going on?”
“They pretended to cross over but the Orpheum wasn’t their unfinished business,” Julie said as her voice shook.
“So they came here to die again?!” I yelled.
Julie smiled and said, “Reggie said you’re still the same firecracker he asked out in freshman year.”
“Reggie?”
She pointed to the ground beside the recliner, the air seemed cloudy, surrounding a vague outline of a person. I sat down on the ground near the blob and cried wishing I could see them.
Julie pleaded with them to go join Caleb but I knew it was no use. Their stubbornness transcended the mortal world. I saw Julie lean up and hug a figure, then I saw Luke. I gasped as he started to glow a golden light.
“Why can I feel you?” Julie said.
“I don’t know but, I feel stronger.”
“Luke?” I gasped out.
He turned and gave me his signature smile, “See? I told you you’d never get rid of me for too long.”
I rushed forward and tackled him in a hug.
“Reggie, Alex come here!” Julie yelled.
I felt three more sets of arms around me. More glowing light filled the room and I looked up to see my three best friends standing in front of me once more.
“Whoa,” Reggie said, I looked up and looked deep into his eyes, “I don’t feel as weak anymore.”
The boys winced as the marks on their wrists began to float into the air and disappeared.
“What does this mean?” Julie said.
“I think the band’s back,” Luke smiled.
“And with our number one fan,” Reggie said and threw his arm around me. I buried my face in his neck and finally smelled the scent I’d forgotten long ago.
“You guys think we can try the hug thing one more time?” Alex said, causing us to laugh. We all pulled into another group hug.
After we pulled back again Reggie said, “I like this.” Before pulling us into another hug.
“We played the Orpheum!” Julie shouted and we all jumped around, never letting go until Julie’s dad called her inside.
I stayed outside with the boys for just a little bit longer. My arms never left Reggie’s neck unless it was to hug the other too, trying to catch up on 20 years worth of affection that was missed.
“You look hot,” Reggie said causing me to chuckle.
“Dude!” Luke yelled, “I don’t care how old she is, that's still my little sister.”
“Sorry bro, but she’d be a hot mom,” Reggie smirked.
I smiled and pulled Reggie in for another hug.
He pulled back and looked into my eyes, “So what does this mean for us?”
“I don’t know honestly,” I sighed, “But I guess we’ll figure it out.”
“I’m never letting you go,” Reggie said as he buried his face in my hair.
“I’m counting on it besides you still have to play that song for you number one fan."

SERIES MASTER
---
If someone told you when Sunset Curve was formed that you’d be watching them rehearse for a show at The Orpheum, well, you would’ve believed them right away. This band, these four boys, you had no doubt would do amazing.
“Take off, Last Stop, Countdown till we blast open the top”
Luke’s voice filled the Orpheum as you smiled, watching your boys on stage, completely in their element. How they could do it, you had no idea, but you loved watching them. You nodded your head along to the song you’ve heard what had to have been millions of times, drumming your fingers against your arms as they sat crossed.
“They’re good.” A girl said directly behind you as you spun around, seeing the impressed smile on her face as she wiped down the table. You chuckled as you moved next to her, never taking your eyes off the stage.
“Yeah, they are.” You admitted, watching Luke nod towards Reggie to join him on his microphone. Reggie quickly obliged, coming face to face with Luke as the girl glanced to you.
“You know them?” She asked, nodding to the stage.
You chuckled again, sparing her a brief glance before pointing to Reggie, who was in the middle of moving back to his own microphone. “My brother.” You told her, seeing her nod as she glanced around the band. “I’m Y/N.” you said, offering her your hand.
She took it graciously, sharing a smile with you. “Rose. I work here.” She said and you were slightly jealous.
“Wow, working at the Orpheum, hearing all kinds of bands playing, experiencing the music first-hand,-“
“Wiping down tables.” She interrupted you, holding up the cleaning rag she’d been using for the last 5 minutes. You both started laughing at her joke.
“Fair enough.” You said, moving out of her way so she could reach the rest of the table.
Her smile grew as she looked up at you, seeing the blissful look on your face as you watched your brother and his band. “It’s not all bad.” She finally admitted, pulling your attention away from the group as she smirked. “I do get to hear some awesome music, like your brother’s band, for one.”
You took pride in her comment, even if it wasn’t for you. Even if you weren’t a member of the band, you were still a part of them, Reggie made sure of that and the boys loved you, they’d want you there anyway. The boy’s sound check had ended and Rose and you started clapping as you jogged to the stage.
“Thank you, we’re Sunset Curve.” Reggie spoke over the mic, directing it towards Rose as you jumped to sit on the edge of the stage and Luke took your hands to help you stand.
“You guys killed it!” you said, throwing your head back with a smile. You were met with a few cheers from the band as you looked at them and Reggie threw his arm around your shoulder, shaking you into his embrace. You rolled your eyes, gently nudging him off of you as you shared a smile and you could see the adrenaline in his face.
“Too bad we wasted the tightest we’ve ever played on sound check.” Bobby chuckled but Luke shook his head, turning to where the audience would’ve been.
“Just wait until tonight, man, when this place is packed with record execs.” He said as you gently shoved him, making him play shove you back as Alex came around his drums.
“Alex, you were smoking.” Reggie said after putting down his bass.
Alex shook his head, not at all ready for the compliment. “Oh no, I was just warming up.” He said as you let out a sigh. “You guys were the ones on fire.” He pointed to the rest of the band, not paying attention to you as you moved in front of him, putting your hands on his shoulder to get him to listen.
“Can you just own your awesomeness for a second? Reggie’s right, Alex. You were amazing.” You assured him, shaking him by the shoulders for a second until he caved.
“Alright, I was killing it.” He admitted as you pulled him in for a hug, moving out of the way for him to hug Reggie one handed. Luke reached over, patting Alex on the back, before his arms found a spot around your shoulders.
You looked at him over your shoulder, seeing the dimply grin as you shook your head. “You’re sweaty.” You said, playfully trying to shake him off.
Luke just laughed. “You love it.”
“You wish.” You retorted with a scoff but you couldn’t stop smiling. That was until you saw your brother smirking at you out of the corner of your eyes and you looked his way, poking his stomach. “Need some fuel?”
“Street dogs!” Luke beamed as Alex quickly agreed, Reggie too, after pushing your hand away.
“Bobby, you in?” You asked, turning to the first boy only to see him gone. “Bobby?”
Reggie tapped your shoulder, showing you Bobby who was already off the stage and heading towards Rose. “Bobby, where are you going?” Reggie asked, but it didn’t take a genius to know he was going to flirt with her.
“Oh boy.” You mumbled, following the band off the stage.
“I’m good.” He told you all before facing Rose, putting on his charm. “Vegetarian. I could never hurt an animal.” Bobby said and you had to hide your face in Reggie’s shoulder to keep from laughing. He noticed, sharing an amused smirk with you before looking back at Rose.
You glanced at Bobby and Luke. Bobby was focused solely on Rose, but Luke was focused on making Bobby’s attempt at flirting with her a failure. “You guys were really good.” She told them and you took a deep breath, focusing back on the conversation. “I see a lot of bands and been in a few and I was really feeling it.”
“That’s what we do this for.” Luke smiled, showing his dimples as he stepped in front of Bobby. “I’m Luke, by the way.”
“I’m Reggie.” Reggie pointed to himself.
“Alex.” Alex continued before Bobby stepped up again, wanting his chance.
“Bobby.” He grinned at her and she nodded her head.
“Nice you meet you guys.” She told them, not needing another introduction of you before she told the boys her name. Luke bumped you accidently as he pushed closer, bringing his finger to his mouth before sticking it in Bobby’s ear. You rolled your eyes at his antics, not at all surprised.
“Oh!” Reggie said, adjusting his hands to correctly stick out the band’s demo. “Here’s our demo and a T-shirt. Size beautiful.” He put the T-Shirt in front of her and you heard Alex groan much like you had at your brother’s horrible flirting.
Rose held the T-Shirt up to her body, looking to you as you shrug, letting out silent chuckles as she joined. “Thanks.” She told your brother as you nudged his shoulder, receiving a nudge back, but he didn’t look at you. “I’ll try not to wipe the table down with this one.”
“Oh, good call.” You spoke up, making Reggie and Luke move so you could be seen. “Whenever they get wet, they kind of just fall apart in your hands.” You told her, nodding your head slowly. Luke, Reggie, and Bobby all looked at you, making you let out a nervous laugh. “I’m kidding!” you said but as soon as they turned around you met Rose’s eyes and shook your head. She just laughed at you.
Bobby turned to you four, greatly wanting your absences. “Don’t you guys have hotdogs to get?” He asked. You shared looks with your friends before Luke decided to ‘help out’ Bobby more.
“He had a hamburger for lunch.” He said before patting Bobby on the back, running into you but throwing his arm over your shoulder in recovery, starting to lead you away.
You paused momentarily, looking back at Rose who watched you and Luke start leaving. “Bye Rose!” you shouted, being dragged away by Luke. “It was nice meeting you!” You heard her yell back a “you too”, but Luke had already dragged you out of the room.
Throwing on your coats, the four of you walked outside of The Orpheum, taking the side door since the front was off limits for now. The cool air hit you right away as you sighed and followed the boys out of the alleyway. Luke talked about what Rose said and how the feeling of the music was why he played and how he connected to people.
He stopped walking, pulling Alex and Reggie into his sides. You stopped walking as well, watching in amusement. “I want that connection with everybody.”
You snorted, reaching into your bag and pulling out a white Tee. “Then you’re gonna need more T-Shirts.” You joked and tossed the T-Shirt at his face, Luke caught it, more or less with his face, but handed it to your brother. He grinned at you, moving forward and locking his arm with you as you all started walking. “Come on, I’m starving.” You laughed, feeling Alex lock his arm with your other free arm.
Starting to walk past the already forming line in front of the Orpheum, Luke tugged his hood over his head and Alex ducked his head, using his hand to hide his face and Reggie, well, your brother didn’t bother hiding. Instead, he went up to the closest set of girl fans, handing them the shirt you tossed the boys and walked away. You all snickered at the sounds of squeals and shouts coming from the girls as you all picked up speed, Luke’s hold on you tightening as you started to laugh.
Finally, you made it to the street dogs, each of you getting a dog and you all crowded around the back of a car the condiments were set up in. You always hated the set-up, but the food was worth it. You looked at all the condiments, trying to decide which ones to put on your hotdog as Alex grabbed some of the pickles, accidently dropping them in the process.
He sighed, giving you a defeated look. “I can’t wait until we eat someplace where the condiments aren’t served out of the back of an Oldsmobile.” Alex said as you nodded, decorating your hotdog and listening to him speak to the man selling the hotdogs. “Sorry, I got some pickles on your battery cables.” He said, pointing to the car.
The man just shrugged. “Not a problem. It’ll help with the rust.”
Alex just stared at him, turning around to see you doing the same. “That can’t be true.” His words died out as you shrugged and shook your head. You were eating hotdogs out of the back of a car; it isn’t exactly a fancy restaurant.
The four of you headed over to a couch set out for people to eat on. The boys all sat on the cushions as you took your seat on the couch’s arm next to your brother, snaking your feet between him and the couch to hold you up. Luke sat forward with a bright look on his face you could barely see past his hood, but you smiled nonetheless. “This is awesome, you guys.” He said, shaking his head and glancing to you briefly. “We’re playing the Orpheum!” He fell back between Alex and Reggie, excitedly. “I can’t even count how many bands have played here and ended up being huge.”
“You’re gonna be legends.” You told the boys who laughed, Reggie draping an arm over your leg and shaking it happily. “You know I’m right.” You told them, meeting each of their eyes. “You guys worked so hard to get here. You belong on that stage.”
The boy’s faces soften at you as you rolled your eyes, not allowing yourself to be emotional in front of them. “Eat up guys.” Luke interrupted as he held his hotdog out and you each did the same. “Cause after tonight, everything changes.”
You grinned as the four of you put your hotdogs together in cheers before taking a bite of them.
Immediately, you stopped chewing, glancing up at the boys in disgust, Luke and Alex had both stopped like you, but your brother just kept going. “That’s a new flavor.” Alex mumbled holding his dog up as you nodded.
“So, it’s not just mine?” You asked, very alarmed by the taste.
Reggie just licked his fingers free of the mustard on them before looking at you and Alex. “Chill guys, street dogs haven’t killed us yet.” He assured you and you reluctantly nodded and kept eating.
Oh, how you should’ve stopped.
You remember feeling sick, you remember the ambulance, you remember floating away from the ambulance, you remember dying. How did this night go so wrong, so quick?
The four of you only spent an hour, or so it seemed, in a black room, none of you quite sure what was happening, but it didn’t stop you from trying to cheer Alex up as he cried. Luke and Reggie stood back, completely unsure how to even help Alex as you hugged him, sending the others glares every time they spoke. You thought you’d be in the dark room forever before hearing the boy’s song playing in the distance, seeming to get louder until you were enveloped in light. The four of you started screaming, doing so until you landed flat on your backs. Groaning from the pain, you felt Reggie writhe on the floor next to you.
The music stopped as you all slowly stood up, immediately you started looking around the room and you realized where you were. “How did we get back here?” Luke asked, earning nods from you before your eyes landed on a young girl in front of you.
Before you could say anything, she started screaming, making the boys scream as well as they clutched each other and you. You just stood there almost dazed as the girl ran out of the studio. Finally, they stopped screaming as you looked at them wide eyed. “What just happened?”
No one knew what was happening, one second you were sitting in a dark room and now you were back in the studio? Could this day get any weirder?
“We’re dead. We died, and now we’re here?” you began as your breathing hitched, looking at the boys. “Are we ghosts?”
They just stared at you, each of their brows furrowing before Alex shook his head. “Nope. No way, not possible.” Alex said before he started pacing. You deeply sighed, locking his arm with yours and getting him to look at your face, trying to show him you were serious. You knew he didn’t like change, but this wasn’t something he could ignore.
When Alex looked like he’d stop pacing, you let him go, turning around to see Reggie standing there. You furrowed your brows. “Where’s Luke?”
Reggie spun around, thinking his best friend was standing right beside him, but he wasn’t. “Um, I don’t know.” He opened his mouth, just about to call out his name before Luke called his name from the Studio’s loft.
The three of you spun around, mouth’s agape at how he got up there so quick before he was right behind you, tapping your shoulder to get your attention. You just stared at him, unsure how he did it. “Woah cool!” Reggie beamed. “How did you do that?”
Luke shrugged. “I don’t know. I just thought about it.” His response made you and Alex share a look as Reggie was completely on board.
“Oh sure. It’s that eas-“ Before Alex could finish his sentence, Reggie was gone and you jumped back, feeling Luke grab you as you bumped into him. You didn’t say anything as he let go of you, both of you separating before Alex was gone himself.
You turned to Luke, nervous written straight across your face. “It’s that easy?” You asked quietly, looking around for your brother and best friend.
Luke nodded and stretched a hand out to you. “It’s that easy.” You took his hand, quickly bringing the thought of teleporting to your head before you were gone just the others.
As soon as you were gone, the young girl crept slowing into the studio again, only this time she was holding a cross, pointing it around the room as she moved petrified. “Are you still here, whatever you are?” She asked, her voice shaking before she sighed and put the cross down. “I know I saw something. I’m not crazy.”
It was that moment that the four of you reappeared behind her. “Well, we’re all a little crazy.” Luke said as he stepped forward, frightening the girl as she jumped and spun around. She started screaming again, making you all flinch as you grabbed Reggie’s arm.
“Oh my god! Please stop screaming!” Alex yelled at her as she finally stopped, but the cross she was pointing around the room earlier was directed at the four of you.
“Who are you and what are you doing in my mom’s studio?” You furrowed your brows, glancing to Reggie who was just as confused.
Luke stepped up, voicing everyone’s confusion. “Your mom’s studio?” He said moving to the girl before the cross was thrusted at him and he tried to avoid it. “This is our studio!” You felt Reggie tug on your sleeve as you looked to him, seeing his eyes move about the room and particularly the roof. You hadn’t bothered looking around before, you figured it would be in the same condition you left it in, but this? This was different than your studio. There were chairs hanging from the ceiling, pots and plants you definitely had never put in, and a big grand piano right in the middle of the room.
What happened to your studio?
You were so focused on your own glancing around, you hadn’t been listening to Luke talk to the girl until he put his arm around your shoulder, trying to get you to focus on his talk. “How did she get her stuff in here so fast?”
“Maybe- Maybe she’s a witch.” Your brother said as you turned to him dumbfounded. He noticed your look and pointed up. “There are chairs hanging from the ceiling!”
“Ok, there are no such thing as witches.” Alex told him, honestly not surprised Reggie would suggest that.
Reggie made a face at him. “You sure? Because I used to think there’s no such thing as ghosts.”
Alex paused before nodding. “That’s fair.” He muttered as you took a breath, turning to Luke for help.
“So, we’re going with a witch?” Luke asked as your eyes widened.
“No! We’re not going with a witch!” you told them, burying your head in your hands briefly before looking over Luke’s shoulder at the girl. “Look, she’s not a witch, she’s scared.” The boys turned around, seeing her still thrusting out the cross as Alex put a hand on Luke and your shoulders.
“Let someone with a softer touch handle this.” He said before turning to her. Luke, Reggie and you shared a look.
“Oh god.” You mumbled, bringing a hand up to hold your head as you watched Alex stop in front of her.
He cleared his throat. “Why are you in our studio?” You rolled your eyes, knowing Alex was going to do something weird. The girl, having no clue what was happening, shoved the cross at Alex and the five of you watched as it went right through him.
She was shocked, watching her hand go through Alex before she pulled it out. “Oh my gosh, how did you do that?!” She shouted.
Alex shook his head. “You’re not understanding.” He said before he turned to you three. “Clearly she’s not getting it.” He looked back at her, making you slightly nervous. “We’re ghosts, all right? We’re just four ghosts, really happy to be home.” He began, gesturing back to you three before over the girl’s shoulder. “Thank you for the flowers, they really brighten up the room.”
“Alex.” You called him, quickly realizing the girl wasn’t accepting it still. He looked back at you, seeing your eyes widened momentarily to tell him to stop as he nodded, moving back with the group.
Luke decided to have his go. “We’re in a band called Sunset Curve.”
“Tell your friends.” Reggie butted it, always ready to promote the band when he could.
The three of them nodded in response. “Last night was supposed to be a pretty big night for us.” Luke went on. “It was supposed to change our lives.”
You let out a laugh, biting your lip before meeting Luke’s eyes. “I think it did.” You told him, pointing out the fact you were, you know, dead.
“This is freaking me out.” The girl said, causing Luke and you to break eye contact to see her pulling something out of her pocket.
Luke furrowed his brows, bringing a hand up to point at whatever was in her hands. “What’s that? What are you doing?” The girl shoved the cross in Luke’s face as he stepped forwards and you grabbed his arm, making him drop it but you never let go of it, too focused on what she doing.
“It’s my phone.” She told you and you nodded slowly, trying to looking at the screen of it. She stopped herself. “Nope stop talking to them. They aren’t real. There’s no such thing as cute ghosts.” She tried to reason with herself.
Reggie chuckled. “You think we’re cute?” You rolled your eyes.
“Obviously she’s talking about me.” You told him, playing with his ego as his face fell and you saw Luke smirk as he nudged you slightly.
Alex was the only one still focused on the girl for the moment. “Who you calling?” He whispered as he stepped forward to peer over the edge of the phone.
The cross was once again thrusted in his face. “I’m googling Sunset Swerve.”
“Sunset Curve!” The boys defended as you braced yourself, knowing that was coming. She just let out a laugh shakily before turning back to her phone, pulling up an article and reading it, her face slowly falling.
“Woah,” She began, looking between the boys. “There is a Sunset Curve. You did die.” She said before stopping. Everyone nodded, but she furrowed her brows. “But not last night.”
“What?” You asked, growing confused.
“Twenty-five years ago?”
“What?” Reggie repeated from you, shaking his head as you let out a nervous laugh, feeling your grip tighten on Luke’s arm as he slowly moved it up to hold your hand, knowing you were freaking out. “No, no, no, no. That’s impossible.” Freaking out much like you were on the inside. “After we floated out of the ambulance, all we did was go into that weird dark room where Alex cried.”
“Well...” Alex cut him off, his voice going high as he opposed your brother’s words. “I don’t think- I think we were all pretty upset. Right Y/N?” He looked past Luke, glancing at you and you nodded, playing along and gave him a thumbs up.
“But that was only for like an hour.” Luke cut in. “We just got here.”
The girl shook her hand, holding her phone out for you all to read. “Look, I’m telling you what my phone says.” You leaned in, reading all about your brothers and your friends’ deaths in the article as she spoke. “See? You died in 1995. When you were 17.” You barely paid attention to her, staring at the article where the 4 of your names sat under a picture of the boys. “It’s now 2020.”
“So, this is the future?” Reggie asked and slowly you let your hand fall out of Luke’s, not purposely, but Luke looked to you as it happened, seeing the look on your face as you stared at the now empty space the phone used to be.
“So, so it has been 25 years?” Alex asked, his hands started shaking as he wrapped his mind wrapped around this new information. “I have been crying for 25 years?!” He shouted, moving his hands a lot as he processed. “How is that possible?”
“Well, you’re a very emotional person.” Reggie told him.
“I am not!”
A new voice to the room pulled you out of your mind, and you looked up seeing Luke’s eyes almost latched on the girl, right in time to move to let a little boy walk up to her. “I thought you were afraid to come out here.” You all watched him, unsure of whether he could see you until he didn’t spare any of you a glance. “Are you talking to your ghost friend? How does he look? Is he hideous?”
You smirked, looking up to your brother who knew exactly what was coming. “Look Reggie. He can see you.” He shot you a mocking look as you stifled a laugh, hearing Luke and Alex chuckle before the girl’s eyes shot to you.
“No, he can’t.” She said quickly, becoming aware of the fact she could see you all, and her little brother couldn’t.
The boy just looked around, staring right through you all. “What?” He asked before the girl shook his question off, asking what he needed. “A normal sister for starters.” He told her as your eyes widened, taking in the attitude on this little boy. “Stop being weird and come eat.”
He walked out as you chuckled. “I liked him.” You admitted, seeing the boys roll their eyes.
“Must be a younger sibling thing, then.” Reggie muttered to you as you stuck your tongue out at him.
“He couldn’t see you.” Your banter was broken as the girl stared where her brother disappeared.
Alex nodded. “Well, that’s usually how ghosts work.” He told her. You let out a breath. Ghosts. How were you supposed to be a ghost? It’s not like there was an instruction pamphlet.
She pushed right past you all, clearly irritated with you all before pausing. “Look, I’m very sorry for what happened to you guys, but this isn’t your studio anymore. You have to leave.” Your face fell.
“Wait!” Luke called out to her before she could leave. She spun around, eyeing him to continue. “We didn’t get your name.”
“It’s Julie.” She said before Luke smiled at her. It was that moment your stomach tightened, making you look away to your brother who noticed your movement and moved past Alex slowly, throwing an arm around your shoulder and pulling you close to his side.
“Cool.” Luke said, stepping forward and reaching his hand out. “I-I’m Luke.” He stuttered and you tried to pretend you didn’t notice it. Julie threw the cross up again as Luke stepped back, beginning to introduce you all now. “This is-“ He pointed to your brother, seeing you tucked neatly in his arm, but he didn’t say anything.
“Reggie. I’m Reggie.” He said before looking to you.
“I’m Y/N.” You said, giving her a little wave.
“Alex. How’s it going.” Alex said awkwardly as Luke joined the rest of you, stretching his arms out to ‘introduce’ you all.
“Ba-da!” He said softy before letting his arms drop.
Julie looked at him unimpressed. “Okay?” She said before turning out of the studio and walking away, leaving the four of you standing there with no clue what to do.
“Julie seems nice.” Your brother said as your arm came up to hit him gently on the chest, making him let go of you.
You walked over to the couch, flopping down on it like you’ve done millions of times before as Alex spoke. “Did you miss the part where she kicked us out? Or…?” Reggie stayed silent, making a face that gave Alex his answer. “Yeah, okay.” He muttered as the boys tried to figure out what to do. Luke pushed past your brother, having watched you lay on the couch and stare at the ceiling.
He joined you, sitting by your head as your feet dangled off the edge. You didn’t say anything, looking at the ceiling as Luke kept glancing at you, trying to hide what he was doing.
You rolled your eyes, sitting up and turning to face him. “You’re making me sick with the constant looking back and forth, what do you want?” You said with a smirk as Luke let out a nervous laugh, turning to face you more as well.
“How are you holding up?” He asked and you your lips fell into a line as you moved again, now facing the room and doing whatever you could to not look at him.
“How am I holding up?” You let out a laugh. “Luke, I wasn’t supposed to play one of the biggest gigs of my careers so far before being taken out by a hotdog.” He laughed too, his hand falling so naturally on your leg you weren’t sure if he noticed. But you did. You always did.
He was about to speak again but your brother interrupted. “What if we go talk to her?” He asked, looking around for advice. Luke stood up, loosing contact with your leg as he made his way right over the table.
“Talk to her?” You asked, keeping your spot on the couch.
Reggie nodded, adjusting his jacket. “Yeah, convince her to let us stay.” Alex and Luke right away were down, ready to convince the random girl to let you guys crash in her studio. “Y/N, you coming?” Reggie asked as the three of them started towards the door.
You hesitated but shook your head. “I’m fine. I don’t see this ending any other way but badly.” You admitted, seeing the smiles on their faces as they all shrugged and walked right through the door. Luke was last, casting one last glance your way but again, you weren’t looking at him. He frowned but followed Alex and Reggie out.
As soon as they were gone, you let out a shaky breath and looked around. 25 years. It’s really been 25 years since you last stepped in this room? Pushing yourself up from the couch, you walked around slowly, noticing more differences in the room. It was cleaner. The boy’s dirty shirts and sweatshirts weren’t tossed everywhere, ready for you to yell at them to clean up. It seemed more girly with more décor and flowers around the room. And the instruments were all different. In particularly, that grand piano. You glanced to the door, noting the boys weren’t back as you walked over to it, letting your fingers dance across the surface before you uncovered the keys.
There was a song sheet sitting on top and you glanced over it briefly. You took a deep breath, letting your fingers rest on a few familiar keys, but before you could play them, the boys returned. You quickly shut the keyboard cover, rushing away from the piano before any of them saw.
“How did it go?” You ask when you got far enough away and the boys were arguing with each other, not at all paying attention to you. You giggled, making them stop as you crossed your arms. “That well then?”
They all exchanged looks before looking to you embarrassed. “You were right.” They said at almost the same time, making you roll your eyes fondly at them all. They began to tell you what happened as they slowly grabbed their instruments, already knowing what the others were thinking. Without another word, they all started playing, making you smile at them. You leaned back in the nearest chair, watching them play before the studio doors opened and an angry Julie barged in.
She tried yelling over the music to get the boys to stop, but they weren’t listening, even trying to play for her. You quickly jumped up, bringing your hand up to wave in front of your neck to tell them to stop playing. If Julie was already mad, not listening to her was only going to make things worse.
“The whole neighborhood could hear you. I thought I told you to leave.” She stressed as the guys and you shared looks.
“Wait, people could hear us play?”
“Yes!” Julie shouted at Luke’s question. “And so did my dad and my brother!”
The boys started striping themselves of their instruments, processing this information just like you were. “Wait, wait,” Alex began, “So, only you can see us, but everyone can hear us?” The boys started getting excited, Luke bouncing on his feet as Reggie looked between you and his bandmates with glee. “What kind of ghosts are we?!”
“Who cares man!” Luke cut off his questions. “People can hear us play!” They all shared fist bumps with each other as you looked at Julie, seeing her annoyance with the situation.
“We might be dead, but our music isn’t!”
The door to the studio opened behind you as you turned around, getting out of the way as a man walked almost right into you. “Dad!” Julie shouted as Reggie grabbed you, keeping you from tripping over your feet.
Julie’s dad, Ray, just gave her a small smile. “Just making sure you’re okay.” He told her before she made up a lie about needing to turn off the CD player. He nodded, almost leaving before seeing Alex’s drum kit out as well as Reggie’s bass and Luke’s guitar. “Is this the junk that was in the loft?”
“Junk?” Luke asked incredulously and you had to admit, even you took offense. Their instruments were not junk. Ray moved forward, coming to Alex’s drums and hitting them, not even trying to play correctly. Everyone watched him, not sure what to say to stop him.
“Some of this stuff’s in pretty good shape.” He said, glancing up to his daughter. “Maybe we can make a couple bucks.” He started playing with the cymbals, making Alex freak out.
“Stop touching my drums!” He shouted at Ray before remembering he couldn’t hear him. He turned to Julie. “Tell him to stop touching my drums!”
Luke turned to you and Julie, both of you already sharing a what-are-we-supposed-to-do-about-it look before Ray moved away from the drums and you let out a relieved sigh. “I liked that song you had on earlier.”
“Sweet! We’re Sunset Curve!” Reggie said as you rolled your eyes, moving back to your chair from earlier and falling on it, letting your feet dangle off the side as Luke told Ray to tell his friends, as if Ray could hear him.
“It was just an old CD.” Julie lied again, avoiding looking at the boys.
“Well, it’s nice to know you’re listening to music again.” You furrowed your brows at Ray’s words. Why would she not listen to music? Why would she stop listening to music? “Out here you can play whatever you want, whenever you want.” He gestured with his hands as he spoke, unknowingly driving his hand right through Luke and Reggie’s stomach, and much like it had with Julie and Alex earlier, his hands went through. Sitting back and watching, Julie snapped at the boys, making her father think she was obviously talking to him. Ray went into supportive dad mode and immediately it made your face fall with jealousy. You wish yours was like hers. Instead, he was always fighting with your mom, too busy to remember little things about Reggie’s and your life, like Reggie’s gigs, or even your birthday.
As soon as Ray was gone, you rolled off the chair, straightening your clothes out. “He likes our song.” Luke smiled as you rolled your eyes.
“Yeah, he doesn’t count.” You told him, putting his shoulder.
Alex, who agreed with you, nodded. “He’s a dad.”
“Why can’t you guys be normal ghosts?” Julie asked out of desperation. “Hang out at an old mansion. I hear Pasadena’s nice.” She opened the Studio door, stomping out before closing it right after.
The four of you just looked at each other. “I think she’s warming up to us.” Alex said with obvious sarcasm as you snorted out a laugh.
Reggie nodded. “I’ve always wanted to go to Pasadena.” He said, looking at you and you smiled, remembering your brother did in fact always bug your parents about going to Pasadena. Always being met with the same answer of ‘no’.
“I’ve got this.” Luke said briefly before disappearing, most likely going to talk to Julie. Reggie looked at you as soon as Luke was gone, but you didn’t look at him, not wanting to deal with his so called ‘brother’s intuition’. What ever he was thinking, was wrong.
“Come on.” Alex said, reading the room as he turned towards the door. Reggie and you followed and the three of you walked right through it, seeing Luke and Julie talking on the steps to her house. Luke was trying to explain to her how much music meant to them, how playing in the Studio just then was the first time they felt alive in 25 years. He even brought up Julie’s mom, saying how she is into music. But Julie brought all your spirits down, telling you all that her mom had passed.
“You guys haven’t seen her anywhere, have you?” Julie asked awkwardly, not quite sure how this whole ghost thing worked. Not like you had any clue.
You shook your head, much like the boys did as Alex spoke up. “No, um, you’re actually the first person we’ve seen.” He admitted and Julie’s face fell.
“Yeah, but she’s not dead.” Reggie butted in as your head snapped his way. “So, that doesn’t really answer her question.” He said before looking at you, seeing your wide eyes which meant it was time for him to stop talking. He did and you took his arm, laying your head on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry for your loss.” You told Julie who forced a smile at you and looked to the ground.
“Thanks.” She whispered. She looked up, seeing you smile at her. “Sorry I got mad.” She said and you shook your head, telling her it was alright as you let go of Reggie and she looked between the boys. “You guys are kinda good.”
“Kinda?” Luke eyes snapped to hers, and you stifled a laugh. “Y-you know that was 25 years of rust just getting dusted off, right?” The three of you watching them laughed together.
“Do you play piano too?” Reggie asked and immediately Julie answered no.
“No, I don’t play. That’s my mom’s stuff in there.”
“No way, she’s an amazing songwriter.” Luke told her as you watched his smile grow slowly on his face as he spoke to her.
Julie nodded but with a frown on her face. “She was.” She paused before her brows furrowed. “Wait, how do you know?”
Luke licked his lips and faced her fully. “There’s a song on the piano, if its hers,” he stopped himself, calming himself down with the remembrance that Julie’s mom had passed. “She was really talented.”
You saw that song earlier sitting on the piano, Luke must have looked when you weren’t paying attention but he was right. It was amazing.
Julie looked saddened by Luke’s words and started to turn around. Luke, seeing her actions, turned back to the three of you and your eyes met almost instinctively. “I guess,” Julie began as she turned back around, knowing she didn’t have the heart to throw the four of you out. “If you need a place to stay, you can stay in there.” She gestured to the studio as the four of you smiled wide, happy she wasn’t leaving you to fend for yourselves. “There’s a bathroom in the back and a couch that turns into a bed, if you still need any of that stuff.”
“Dibs on the shower!” Reggie shouted, not surprising you in the utmost. Everyone looked at him shocked but you. He just happily shrugged. “I just really love showers and the occasional bath.”
You rolled your eyes. You had to battle your brother for bathroom time when you were alive and you still have to in the afterlife? Not fair.
“This…” Julie said, moving her hands in front of the three of you. “This is just too weird.” She turned to leave and you four kept in your excitement until she was gone. Luke jumped down from the path he was standing on and threw his arm around your shoulders as you four walked back into the studio together.
Not knowing what to do for the rest of the night, Luke suggested a visit to the place you had planned on spending your night. The Orpheum. The band and you transported yourselves there to sit on marque.
You were sat between Luke and Reggie as you looked at the people passing beneath you, unaware of your presence entirely. Luke glanced at you, nudging you with his shoulder as he patted Alex’s leg. “Hey, I know being dead isn’t our first choice, but it sure makes getting around easier.”
You offered a forced smile yet your eyes went right back to people watching. “Easy for you maybe.” Reggie said as you looked at him, eyes widening when you realized your brother didn’t have a shirt on. “I lost a shirt in that one!”
You glanced down to your own clothes, seeing your flannel, shirt, and ripped jeans all there before you breathed out. “Oh thank god.” Luke laughed at you as Reggie made his shirt reappear. Your cheeks heated up, hiding a smile from Luke that he saw nonetheless.
“So, why’d you bring us here? Just a painful reminder of where we never got to play.” You glanced up, looking at the neon blue sign. Alex patted Luke’s chest. “Thanks Luke.”
“I mean, boys,” Luke stopped himself and looked at you with a cheesy smile, “and Y/N,” he added as you rolled your eyes, not having minded being grouped with the boys, “the game’s not over yet.” He said before you all disappeared and reappeared on the walk below. You stood in the back this time, knowing this was more about the boys than it was you and you were happy to just look around. Reggie walked right through a man as you stifled a laugh and did the same, smiling at the first time you felt a person pass through you. You were all ready to feel it again as a man in a cape and top hat headed straight for Alex. You confused on the man’s look, not seeing anyone else with such a strange appearance, but you were even more so confused when Alex didn’t walk through the man. Instead, their shoulder smacked into each other, resulting in a collision with you as well that knocked you off your feet.
Alex immediately helped you up, but he was too busy looking at the mysterious man, as were you. He tipped his hat at you both as you stood confused. “Are you okay?” Alex asked and you nodded, not looking away from the man whose back was turned to you.
“Yeah, I’m fine, but what was that? Who was that?” You knew Alex didn’t have the answers to you, if you didn’t know then he didn’t know.
“Alex, Y/N! You coming?” Luke’s voice called back as Alex ran a hand through his hair and tugged your arm, bringing you back to reality as you both ran after Luke and Reggie, ready to spend the nights walking the streets of LA. You decided to avoid people after that, deciding you didn’t want to end up on your butt again.
By the time morning set, you were growing tired of walking. Sure getting around as a ghost was easy, but right now all you wanted to do was collapse back on your couch. The boys finally listened to you, all of them getting tired as well and you brought yourselves back to the studio, ready to collapse before you froze.
Julie was playing the piano. The song she was playing, the one that sat on the piano yesterday, filled the air as the four of you stood behind her. She was amazing. Her voice was something you never heard before causing goosebumps to travel up and down your skin despite the flannel that had kept you warm all night. The sun came through the windows behind you as you felt Luke’s hand find yours, but neither of you looked away from Julie as she played the last notes, an ache in your chest as she stopped and you wished there were more.
Wake up.

Tumblr media
1.
The first time that Luke Patterson feels that scorching, smoldering rage in the pit of his stomach is when he notices Y/N Mercer stare at his bandmate, Bobby Wilson, for the entirety of their hour-long Literature class.
At first, he doesn’t understand why he feels this way: Y/N’s just as much Bobby’s friend as she is his. Well, not really – Luke likes to believe that he is the one that she is closest to in the band, other than her brother, Alex, of course. Sure, Bobby and Y/N are friends – they say ‘hi’ when they pass by each other in the hallway, she helps him out with his Physics homework when he asks, and he asks her how her day’s been – that sort of friends. They’ve never really interacted more than it was required, and Luke knows that if Bobby wasn’t a part of their band, Sunset Curve, or if Y/N wasn’t their drummer’s sister, those two wouldn’t be friends.
Anyway, he thinks that maybe it’s because they are supposed to be partners, working on their assignment together – and instead, she is choosing to abandon him and stare at one of his best mates, instead. He thinks that maybe he’s mad because she promised him that she would help him out with this assignment, which is particularly hard, and now, it feels like he’s ditching her.
Instead of thinking about why he is so bothered at the fact that Y/N is staring at Bobby, Luke chooses to elbow her instead.
“What?” She whispers, a blush covering her cheeks.
“Can you focus?” He snaps as she rolls her eyes and opens their textbook.
“You’re annoying.”
2.
“Alex, Alex, Alex!”
“Luke, I’m sitting right beside you – you don’t need to yell.”
“There’s something that you should know.” Luke whispers, conspiratorially. Alex, who’s sitting beside him on the couch in the garage where they rehearse, leans forward, intrigued. “What?”
He points at Y/N, who’s sitting in front of Reggie in the opposite side of the room, strumming a guitar – Reggie’s teaching her how to play. Unlike her twin brother, she’s not naturally gifted in music, which is pretty evident from her occasional frustrated huffs, and the obviously off-key tune. Rather, science is her talent, and has always been. The top spot in their class has been permanently occupied by her ever since their first exam as freshmen.
“She!” Luke whispers. Alex furrows his brows. “Yes, I know that she has no musical talent whatsoever –”
“No, no, no. I mean, yes, she doesn’t have that – but you wanna know what she does?”
“I have a feeling that you’re gonna tell me even if I don’t wanna know.” Alex mutters.
“She has a crush on Bobby!” Luke scrunches his face, a disgusted look taking over.
The drummer raises his brows and bursts out laughing. “Really, dude?”
“No, no, no, I’m not lying, okay! I’ve seen her stare at him!”
He raises his brows. “So? She stares at a lot of people.”
“It wasn’t that way, okay? Last week, in class, she was ignoring me and staring at him. Plus, yesterday, when you were god knows where, she and Bobby were having a conversation. An actual conversation! I’ve never seen them talk that much. They were nerding out over Star Wars!”
“Dude, are you…” Alex pauses, looking around, “… jealous?” A smile spreads over his features.
Luke’s eyes widen, and he looks horrified. “What? Me? Jealous? Huh? Me? How?”
Inside, he is panicking. He hadn’t considered this possibility. Is he jealous? No, that can’t be. Y/N – he’s known her forever, and he is supposed to think of her as his sister. He does think so. He’s sure. He can’t – he doesn’t like her. She’s just… Y/N. Sure, he’s always thought that she’s beautiful. And smart. And so, so kind. He’s always admired her. OK, he might have had a little crush on her. But, in a totally harmless, admiring way! (In the way everyone seems to like Winona Ryder these days. Nothing more than that. Absolutely.)
She’s just Y/N.
Y/N, who’s always there for him after he has a bad day. Y/N, who’s the first person he hugs after playing an intense show. Y/N, who’s the only person who can understand his silence. Y/N, who makes sure that he knows that she appreciates him. Y/N, who he knows like the back of his hand.
Before Luke can panic any further, Bobby enters the garage, and Luke notices her attention immediately shift toward him. They exchange a smile, and Luke feels that rage, yet again.
He falls back on the couch, locking eyes with Alex, who is silently watching with a soft smile on his face.
“I’m not jealous.” He says weakly, and Alex nods – but he knows that it doesn’t convince either of them. His friend lays a hand on his shoulder, whispering, “It’s okay.”
3.
By the time the next month rolls around, Luke is positive that he’s jealous: so, he’s resorted to not thinking about it, her or even interacting with her – which is hard considering that she’s always around.
Now, he feels like shit. For their junior year, they are supposed to do a report on a Victorian era novel of their choice, with a partner. He and Y/N were supposed to partners – they had decided months ago and have also done previous assignments together. But now, since he hasn’t even dared to look at her in a month, she’s now doing the report with Bobby, of all people.
As he watches Bobby and Y/N sit next to each other with their arms brushing, he feels that rage again, and curses himself. Could he not have behaved like a normal person? He knows that she is confused as to why he’s suddenly ignoring and avoiding her – she has even asked her brother about it. But Luke had threatened Alex that he would tell everyone about his crush on Reggie if he even said a single syllable.
(Although Luke knows that he would never.)
He sighs, dramatically, and searches for someone else to pair up with, ignoring the way his heart clenches at the realization that he may be losing her.
4.
“Luke?”
He looks up and feels a rush in his veins.
“Are you… mad at me?” Y/N asks tentatively, standing at the door to his bedroom. Her eyes keep flitting between his face and around his bedroom, and he hates the fact that there seems to be an ocean between them.
“Uh…” He scratches the back of his neck, not knowing what to respond. She looks down at her feet, biting her lip and Luke feels a tug on his heartstrings at that. It’s been so, so long and he has so, so much to tell her, but he doesn’t know how to bridge the gap that he created.
He builds up his courage and says, “Yeah. I was kinda mad at you.”
Her eyebrows furrow, and panic flows into her e/c eyes. “What – what’d I do?”
Luke inhales sharply and wonders what he’s gonna say. It’s not like he can say that he was jealous of the fact that she liked Bobby, nor could he say that in the past month he has realized the fact that he may have a tiny, little crush on her and had to avoid her at all costs because she will never like him back and it’s too embarrassing?
He clears his throat. “Uh. It’s because you promised that you would do the English project with me but you’re doing it with Bobby.”
“But I’m only doing it with him because you won’t even look at me! Why won’t you?”
“I… You also ignored me for Bobby the other day?”
She throws her hands up. “What other day?”
“When we were working on the Shakespeare thingy!”
“I was not – now you’re making –”
“Forget it. Just go home, Y/N.”
A look of hurt flashes over her eyes, but she quickly clenches her jaw, and stands straighter, masking her emotions. “Asshole.”
She walks out his door, slamming the door shut behind her.
For the rest of the day, Luke lies on his bed and stares at his ceiling, and when Reggie comes over, he tells him that he’s ruined everything. Reggie lies beside him and asks softly, “You okay?”
“I think I like Y/N.” He whispers.
“We know.”
His lips part and he says in disbelief, “Alex told you?!”
Reggie shrugs. “He didn’t need to. Everyone can see the way that you look at her.”
Luke sighs, too tired to argue.
“Hey. It’s just a date, alright? It’s not like they’re getting married.”
Luke props himself on his elbow. “What?”
“Y’know, Y/N’s really picky –”
“What date?”
Reggie’s eyes widen. “Y-You didn’t know?”
Luke raises his brows, urging his friend to continue. He purses his lips and says, “Y/N and Bobby are on a date right now.”
Instantly, Luke feels as if his world has drained of every colour. Reggie looks uncomfortable, and whispers, “I thought you knew.”
“I, uh, I didn’t. Obviously.” He whispers, falling back on the bed again. His heart physically hurts, and he can feel tears prick at the back of his eyes. Mostly, he feels anger – at himself, and regret.
As jealousy claws its way to the surface, Luke mutters, “I hate Bobby.”
5.
Luke sits cross legged on the floor of the garage, with a Spanish guitar perched on his lap. His hands dance over the strings, trying to find the perfect melody for the song he just wrote.
Writing songs has always been his way of dealing with his emotions, especially when they got too intense. Right now, the situation with Y/N is exactly that.
His eyes dance over the notebook in front of him, and he closes his eyes, trying to forget everything that’s happened in the past couple of days.
“Cause I don't know how we How we got so far, you and me Almost like there's oceans between us, us So I need to know Could you carry me? Back into your heart again Could you carry me? Right into your distant hands Could you carry me? Right back to where we started from Could you carry me?”
“That’s beautiful.”
Luke’s head turns sharply to the side, and of course, it’s her. He clenches his jaws, and says, “What are you doing here?” He hates the fact that she looks so pretty, wearing a beautiful red sundress.
She bites her lower lip, and says, “We should talk, Luke.”
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
She giggles. “You’ve always been the jealous type.”
He raises his brows, opening his mouth to deny whatever she was about to say next, but she raises a hand to stop him. “Alex and Reg told me. They said that they’re tired of seeing you mope every day.”
“I –”
“Hold on. So, for the past month, you’ve been mad at me because you thought I like Bobby?”
Luke lowers his head, choosing to stare at his open palm instead.
“You ignored one of your best friends for more than a month because you were jealous, and you were too much of an idiot to tell her the truth?”
“Well, you don’t gotta be so mean about it.”
She laughs. “Luke. Bobby and I – we’re just friends, okay? I was staring at him because I really liked his hair. And you have to admit it – it’s nice. I actually asked him for his shampoo, too. But, well, you and him both thought that I liked him. That’s why he asked me out to the movies last day. But... uh, well, it didn’t work out.”
His heart races at the last sentence. “Why?”
“Because I like you, Luke. I always have. I thought I could like Bobby, I really did – but all I could think about last night was you.” She shrugs, and Luke feels like he’s falling. He thinks that the universe is playing a prank on him, but when he sees her crimson tinged face, the vulnerability in her eyes and her fiddling with her hands, he allows himself to feel the slightest amount of hope.
She looks down, continuing, “I, uh, I always thought that you only saw me as your best friend’s little sister. I didn’t ever think that, you know, that there could be something more. So, I kept it to myself and only Alex knew. But, last night, Reg came over and they were screaming for a while, about you and me, so I went to find out what happened, and they told me that you, uh, liked me too.”
Reggie. He must have told Alex that Luke was ugly crying on his shoulder.
“Please say something, Luke.”
He releases the breath he didn’t know he was holding. “I – I feel like you’re pranking me.”
She grins. “No. No, definitely not.”
“Y/N, god, you have no idea how difficult this past month has been for me. I mean, I never realized that I liked you that much until I saw you with him, you know? I always thought that I had a tiny, little crush on you but I never… and I thought that Alex would kill me if I did anything, but he’s been oddly… nice about all this.”
“He’s just tired of hearing me talk about you.”
“Probably. But yeah. I think you’re brilliant, Mercer. And I really, really, really like you.”
She jumps a little, and whispers, “I really, really, really like you too.”
“Do you maybe wanna go to the movies with me?” His wide grin matches hers.
“Only if we watch part two of Father of The Bride.”
“Deal.”
+1.
Luke watches Bobby smile at Y/N, looking at her as if she’s put the moon in the sky. Although, this time, he doesn’t feel the rage. He doesn’t need to, really, with Y/N’s hand wrapped in his, and the ghost of her lips still lingering on his.

Luke v. Schoolwork
Summary: The reader attempts to continue getting school work done but Like has other plans, and has no problems using whatever means to achieve them.
Words: 1.8k
Warnings: none
Pairings: luke patterson x molina!Reader (gender neutral)
...........................................
“Come on Molina, we have practice soon!” Luke whined.
“Exactly you have practice, so you go to the studio,” you retorted with a chuckle.
The smirk on his face grew, despite your refusal he knew he was getting to you. “It’ll be funnnnnnnnnn,” he sang.
You placed yourself down on your bed next to him. “As much as I’m sure it would, I have stuff to do, so I can’t.” You gently placed a kiss on his forehead which momentarily distracted him. You had nearly made it back to your work without a word but he stopped you just before you started.
“What are you working on again?” he asked over your shoulder. You rotated your head around slightly.
“Chemistry.”
“Chemistry that’s due when?” The suspicion in his voice was very clear.
“Next week,” you mumbled, as you glanced away from him and towards your screen.
“Y/n,” he loudly groaned.
“What? I’m trying to finish early,” you reasoned.
“You’re no fun,” Luke teased.
“Well you won’t be saying that when I’m done before May,” you argued, as you still looked at the screen.
“If I make it till then,” Luke scoffed. “What?” You hadn’t the slightest clue what he meant by that.
“I mean you hardly give me any attention, it’ll be a miracle if I make it till then,” he explained. You knew he was kidding from the dopey grin on his face that you could see in the reflection on your computer.
“Luke I think you’ll manage,” you commented.
“Please?” he sweetly asked. You could only imagine the puppy dog eyes he was giving you, which is exactly why you didn’t turn around.
“Sorry, but no can do Patterson,” you said with a shrug.
“Fine, I guess you leave me no choice,” he sighed. You felt one of your arms quickly pulled behind you and before you could utter a word you were being reduced to giggles by Luke’s scratching fingers.
“Luhuhuhuke!” you screeched, as you desperately tried to bring your arm down.
“Are you going to hang out with me now?” he tauntingly asked.
You were determined to not let Luke win this so-called fight. “Nohoho, yahoou brahaht!” you yelled.
He momentarily stopped as he swiveled your chair around so it faced him. His hands were placed on both armrests and he leaned in so your faces were inches apart, essentially pinning you to the chair.
“Well, you’re not going anywhere now.” He quieted his voice; which also made it deeper, into a more gravelly sound.
“No, because you’re blocking my way out,” you sarcastically commented.
“So that’s how you want to play it?” he cocked his head sideways at you.
“Wait, wait, no,” you quickly tried to back track.
“No what?” he innocently asked. But the smile on his face and the tone of his voice made it very clear that he was formulating a plan. You rolled your eyes at him.
“Don’t play dumb, I know you’re up to something.”
“You look like Jules when you do that,” he commented on your eye roll.
Your eyes widened in betrayal. “I do not!”
He laughed at your offended reaction as his smirk grew. “Do too.”
“Do not.”
“Do too.”
“Do not.”
“Do too,” he argued as his hands shot out towards your stomach. You squeaked at the contact. And doubled over to protect yourself, but you just trapped his hands.
“Thahat’s cheheating!” you argued.
Luke was unbothered by your argument as he continued scribbling across your stomach. “There’s no cheating if you don’t give me attention,” he retorted.
You decided to take your fate into your own hands as he wasn’t planning on saving you anytime soon. You somehow managed to slide forward and slip out to the side around him before he could grab you.
“Hey, that’s not fair,” he said as he ran after you.
“Says the one who said there were no rules,” you yelled as you ran away.
You quickly raced down the steps, you weren’t entirely certain where you were headed, but you raced around the corner and into the living room anyways.
You were met by a very confused Julie as you ran into the kitchen. “Who are you running from?”
You didn’t have the time to answer her question, but her question was answered in a few seconds anyways as Luke came around the corner.
You continued running until you reached the living room but you nearly crashed into Luke who had run the other way. You let out a yell of shock before racing the other way. Luke once again went the opposite way and the two of you met again in the dining room.
Luke leaned on his knees. “Which way are you going to go y/n?” he taunted.
You took this moment to catch your breath, but you never took your eyes off of him.
“If you guys break something, I’m not covering for you,” you heard Julie yell from the kitchen.
“Don’t worry we-” you started, but you stopped midsentence as you realized Luke had evidently had long enough of a break to recover. You attempted to get away, truly you did, but you didn’t move quite fast enough to escape his arms.
“Well you’re definitely not doing any school now,” he remarked as he picked you up bridal style.
You were certain you could feel his smirk focused on you but you wouldn’t meet his gaze.
“Alright fine, what are we doing?” you huffed.
“I’m so glad you asked, we are going to get ice cream,” Luke explained as he carried you out the door. The two of you quickly waved goodbye to your sister, who was watching with an amused smile.
“Wait a minute, but didn’t you say you had band practice today?” you questioned. Luke put you down so you could hop up into his jeep.
“Yes, but that was just to get you out of your room,” he revealed.
You were a little taken back but a little impressed. “So you lied to me to get me to hang out with you?” you questioned. You were only kidding of course, you knew you needed the shove from him anyways.
“So is this you saying you don’t want ice cream?” he teased as he hopped in on the other side.
“Are you blackmailing me Luke?” You put a hand on your heart in mock betrayal.
Luke mimicked your move. “Of course not, I would never do that.”
“Right,” you sarcastically said.
Luke let out a loud laugh and you soon couldn’t keep up the charade either. Your moment of bliss continued for quite some time until your laughter finally died down. When you eventually opened your eyes you were met by Luke’s piercing ones.
“You know it’s because I love you though, right?” He asked, as he interlaced your hands.
“Of course,” you responded, placing a kiss on the top of his hand. You held each other's gaze for a moment before finally tearing away.
“Now come on, I wanna get some ice cream,” you yelled. Luke let out a whoop of agreeance before pulling out of your driveway.
Ten short minutes later you arrived at your favorite ice cream place. It was a cute little retro themed diner with black and white tiles as flooring, neon signs, and bright red accents. You took your spot in the nook area in front of the window. It had a bright pink neon cloud sign right over top of it that you adored.
“How much do you wanna bet they know who we are?” Luke quietly asked you.
“I’m not betting against that, we’re probably their most frequent customers,” you argued.
Luke toothily grinned. “Yeah, probably, maybe they’ll make a neon sign just for us,” he added.
Soon enough a waitress approached the two of you. “So I’m assuming you’ll have two scoops of mint chocolate chip ice cream and he’ll have three scoops of chocolate chip cookie dough with chocolate sauce on top?” she asked without hesitation. As you and Luke exchanged a glance you bit your lip to keep yourself from laughing.
“Yes, thank you,” Luke managed to get out.
Once the woman had nodded and walked off you finally let out the smile you had been holding on.
“Oh my god, she literally knew everything,” you laughed.
“It’s almost like we come here once a week,” he remarked.
“Almost,” you sarcastically agreed.
You continued chatting about an assortment of things like school, the band, your families, but mostly how hungry you were for ice cream. But after what felt like forever, when in reality was five minutes, your ice cream was brought to you.
“Enjoy!” The waitress told you before walking away.
Luke started shoveling his ice cream into his mouth. You dug into yours as you watched him for what you knew would soon be coming.
“Brain freeze!” Luke yelled.
“How do you never learn your lesson?” you laughed.
“It’s so cold,” Luke groaned.
You felt a little bad for him, but this had happened several times before; so it wasn’t bad enough for you to not laugh.
After his pain had subsided Lukethen focused his attention on you. “Why must you laugh at my pain?” His eyes narrowed as a smirk danced in them.
“Because you never learn your lesson,” you remarked, as you ate another spoonful.
“I’ll throw ice cream at you,” he threatened.
You smiled knowingly. “No you won’t.”
“And why is that?”
You looked quite satisfied with the fact that he had asked. “Because then you’ll have less ice cream to eat.”
He pointed an accusatory spoon at you. “You know me too well.”
“What kind of partner would I be if I didn’t?”
“Not you, that’s for sure,” he agreed.
You felt content with that answer, so you continued eating your ice cream. Once you had finished, the same waitress came around with your bill. “That’ll be eight dollars please.”
You attempted to pay for it, but Luke was a hair faster than you. “Thank you so much and have a great day!” the woman spoke.
“How do you keep beating me?” you uttered to Luke as you grabbed your stuff.
Luke shrugged, but you could tell he was quite pleased with himself. You rolled your eyes to yourself when you realized he wasn’t going to give you an answer.
As you once again hopped up in his jeep you noticed that the sun was starting to go down. You had originally hoped that you would just be finishing with school work right at that moment. But you now realized that wasn’t true.
“What are you thinking about?” Luke questioned as he put his car in drive.
“Just that this is where I needed to be.”

Pairing: Reggie x Bobby’s Sister Reader
Word Count: 2.5K
Request: Hey, I was wondering if you would write a reader x Reggie imagine, where reader is Bobby’s sister and secretly having a relationship with Reggie without the rest of the band knowing about it.
Warnings: very light swearing
A/N: this fic also doubles as my (very late) submission to @jatp-btr week! I decided to set it in 2020 with Julie and the Phantoms going on tour but the guys are alive and Bobby is still a tennager! Also, shoutout to @txrii, who’s playlist of songs that Sunset Curve would cover got me through the final stretch of writing this! Anon, I hope you like this!! As always, let me know what you think and drop a comment/ask/message to be added to my taglist!

___
“Hey Reg,” you said softly, smiling shyly as his face appeared on your phone screen.
You didn’t have any reason to be shy, you and Reggie had been dating for over a year and had known each other for much longer, but you still hadn’t gotten used to your only face-to-face conversation being over FaceTime. Plus, you’d learned to be wary when the two of you called, you didn’t want to say something mushy and have one of the guys behind him, or worse, your brother.
When you and Reggie had started dating you’d decided to keep it secret from your twin brother, and by default Luke and Alex too. Reggie had reasoned that Bobby would be pissed at him for starting up a romantic relationship with you, which was fair given how protective your slightly older brother had always been of you. However, you were certain he’d be more upset with you for dating one of his best friends and bandmates. So, you didn’t tell him. And then months went by and all of a sudden you were passing one year and Sunset Curve was going on tour and they still hadn’t told him.
“Hey, Y/N,” Reggie responded with a grin, clearly psyched to be able to talk to you.
“Are the guys around?” You started to ask when you were interrupted.
“Reggie, did you say Y/N?” A voice called from the background and all of a sudden your boyfriend was being pushed out of the frame and Luke’s face was front and center.
You giggled exasperatedly at the boy but smiled.
“Hi Luke,” you greeted and he grinned at you.
He had just opened his mouth to respond when he was shoved out of frame as well, Alex now taking his place.
“Hi Y/N!” He yelled and you winced slightly, leaning away from your phone at the increase in volume.
“Hi Alex,” you said quieter, though trying to match his enthusiasm in your tone. “Where’s Bobby? And Julie and Flynn?” You asked, trying to rush through any more potential disruptions.
“Bobby’s in the bathroom and Julie and Flynn are on their bus,” Alex explained while struggling to keep Luke from pushing him out of frame.
With Sunset Curve being such a large group (five performers and their manager), and all of them being so young, their parents decided it was for the best that the girls get one tour bus and the guys get another. Plus, you were pretty sure Ray was not very keen on Julie and Luke sleeping in the same space now that they had started dating, even though they were both adults and you knew  Luke was asexual. Still, parents will be parents you supposed.
Besides, it meant there were fewer opportunities for interruptions when you called Reggie while they were on the road.
“Y/N how come you always call Reggie and never me?” Luke pouted, finally having shoved his way back into the frame.
“Don’t be ridiculous, I called you yesterday,” you protested, rolling your eyes at the boy’s dramatics.
That had been another issue you’d had to work out when their tour had first kicked off. Calling Reggie every day was starting to seem suspicious, even though you claimed it was to talk to all of them. Alex had quickly pointed out that it was weird that you didn’t just call your brother, which you had tried to excuse as not wanting him to hog the phone time but then Luke had gotten jealous that you only called Reggie. It seemed reasonable enough when you thought about it from their perspective. You’d been friends with them all for years and they didn’t know about your relationship, so it probably did look like you were playing favorites with Reggie. So, you started making regular calls to Luke and Alex, making sure to give them enough one-on-one time on the phone with you to throw suspicion off your calls with Reggie. It had mostly worked, but Luke was still a butthead.
“Yeah but you called Reggie today,” he whined and you shook your head.
“Because it’s my turn,” Reggie responded for her, pushing both boys away so he could fill the screen once again. You hoped nobody noticed the way your smile brightened when you saw your boyfriend.
“Don’t you guys have other things to do?” He whined and you could practically hear Luke and Alex pouting off-camera so you tried to put on your best understanding-but-disappointed look.
“Sorry guys, it’s Reggie’s time,” you said, though not really sorry about it.
“I feel like it’s always Reggie’s time,” you heard Luke grumble and rolled your eyes.
“Maybe I like him better than you,” you shot back, with a raised brow.
You heard him gasp from off-camera and then you heard the stomping of feet and Reggie grinned broadly at you.
“It’s not nice to lie, Y/N!” Luke yelled as he stomped away, and you heard Alex yelp as he was dragged away with him. “We all know I’m your favorite! I’m everybody’s favorite.”
“Nicely done,” he commended you and you laughed.
“I don’t even know what I did,” you admitted, assuming it would be a much larger fight to get Luke and Alex away.
“Well, whatever it was worked,” he chuckled before his face fell. “I wish you were here.”
Your smile turned melancholy at that. It was certainly nice to be able to see him every day when you got a chance to call, but it was nothing compared to actually being together.
“We’ll be together again before you know it,” you tried to comfort.
“We still have two months of touring!” He whined and you nodded.
Sunset Curve did still have two more months of touring, but what Reggie didn’t know was that as soon as they stepped foot on US soil to finish off the last leg of their tour, you’d be joining them. You’d been in cahoots with your brother, Flynn, and Julie to plan everything in secret. Of course, you were really only planning to surprise Reggie, but to throw off suspicions you had to claim to want to surprise all the guys. You’d be traveling on the girls’ bus but everybody knew you’d be spending the most time with the guys. You did grow up with them, after all, whereas you’d only known Julie and Flynn for a couple of years.
Still, it was difficult to talk to Reggie every day, watch him pout as he whined about missing you and how long you had before you’d see each other again, without throwing in the towel and telling him everything. The look on his face will be worth it, you had to remind yourself each time.
So, you nodded along, strategically choosing your words to avoid lying to your boyfriend.
“I only have a couple more minutes, babe,” you said after about a half-hour had gone by with the two of you sharing about your days.
“Oh, right, your class,” Reggie groaned, not wanting to hang up.
“Believe me, I don’t like this any more than you do,” you sighed, giving him a tight-lipped smile. “But, I’ll text you when it’s over and maybe we can call later?”
Reggie nodded.
“Don’t find any cute girls to replace me while I’m gone,” you joked and he shook his head.
“How can I? I’ll be thinking about you the whole time,” he replied and you smiled shyly.
“I love you, Reg,” you said softly.
“I love you too, Y/N.”
___
You were practically running across the airport. No, not practically, you were running through the airport.
You and Bobby had strategically planned your flight out to the east coast to meet them so that you would land a little before them and be at the airport waiting for them when they arrived. Neither of you had considered delays in your plan and so you were running from your gate across the airport to try to get to the boys’ gate before they disembarked the plane.
You could feel your phone vibrating in your back pocket and cursed quietly to yourself, knowing it was Bobby texting you that they were getting off the plane. You groaned, though in your out-of-breath state it came out as more of a stuttered whine.
You were pretty sure you were nearly there when you heard it.
“Y/N?” A voice called out, sounding confused.
You cursed mentally, having hoped to have some time to compose yourself before seeing them, but obviously, you were too late.
“Reggie, what are you talking about?” You heard Luke ask the boy and you could practically hear your twin’s knowing smirk before you saw it.
When you finally spotted the group of teenagers grouped just outside the gate your eyes slid right past your brother and all your friends, finally locking onto blue-green eyes. Before you even realized what you were doing you were running again, launching yourself at your dark-haired boyfriend. Reggie caught you in his arms, spinning you around slightly before placing your feet on the ground. The two of you stared into each other’s eyes for a moment, relishing in the feeling of being in each other’s arms again before remembering the company you were in. Reluctantly you stepped out of his arms before embracing Luke and Alex, still thrilled to see two of your closest friends just in a different way than Reggie.
“What, no hug for me?” Bobby asked with a frown once you’d hugged Julie and Flynn as well.
You scoffed, wrinkling your face as if the prospect of hugging your brother was revolting.
“If I must,” you sighed before wrapping your arms around your twin. “I missed you.” You added more sincerely. You had never been the kind of twins that were attached at the hip, but this tour had certainly been the longest and farthest you’d been from each other.
You pulled away, moving back to stand by Reggie who was staring at you with a mix of awe and adoration that you hoped the rest of the group missed.
“Wh-when? How? I- I can’t believe you’re here,” he stuttered out, pulling you into his side and you grinned.
“Bobby, Jules, and Flynn helped me plan it all out,” you explained, smiling up at the boy. “I wanted to surprise you.” You turned to smile at Luke and Alex, knowing they were included in the surprise even though it was really only intended for Reggie.
“So wait, I don’t get it, what are you doing all the way on the east coast?” Alex asked, puzzled and you laughed while Luke smacked his chest. “Surely you didn’t fly all the way out here just to see us?”
“No, you idiot! She’s joining us on tour!” Luke exclaimed before faltering, eyes flicking between you, Bobby, Julie, and Flynn for confirmation. “…Right?”
You nodded, laughing again.
“Yes, I got sick of missing you guys while you were traveling the world,” you grinned and Reggie squeezed your shoulder, a reminder that his arm was still around you. Luckily all the guys were pretty touchy so it seemed friendly enough. “So I’ll be with you for the rest of the tour!”
The guys all cheered at your announcement and you grinned, so thankful to be back with them.
___
You’d made it surprisingly long into the North American leg of their tour before any mishaps occurred. You couldn’t quite believe you’d made it that long given that all you and Reggie wanted to do in your free time was stay wrapped up in each other but there wasn’t exactly the privacy for that.
Still, you couldn’t help but be frustrated when the slip-up finally happened.
You’d been backstage before one of their concerts, the guys had left you and Reggie alone in their dressing room so you took advantage of your momentary privacy and leaned in to give your boyfriend a good-luck kiss on the cheek. Of course, it was just your luck that the guys would bust back in looking for their bandmate just as your lips made contact with his cheek and before you knew it you were giving the other three boys good luck kisses and mentally cursing yourself while Reggie held back a laugh.
Needless to say, you were more careful next time but you were still stuck giving good luck kisses for the next few performances because the guys insisted that they actually performed better.
Of course, that whole ordeal was completely forgotten on the night of their last performance. You were all back in LA and after this performance, you’d be returning to your own homes and beds to sleep for the first time in weeks for you and months for the rest of the group. You knew they were all excited to be back home even though they loved touring.
You were excited to be home too, and maybe that was why you completely forgot the lesson you’d learned earlier on the tour and pulled Reggie in for a kiss when the guys stepped out of the dressing room for the final show.
It had meant to be a quick kiss so that the two of you could follow right behind them without arousing suspicions. However, you didn’t stop him when he pulled you in closer, prolonging your kiss. You were so focused on each other that neither of you heard the door open as Luke came back in to grab his forgotten guitar pick.
“Holy shit!” He yelled back down the hallway, scaring you and Reggie.
The two of you jumped apart hastily, but the damage had already been done. You could hear two pairs of footsteps as Bobby and Alex came running back down the hallway.
“You both owe me ten bucks!” Luke yelled triumphantly as the two boys appeared in the doorway.
“Aw, man are you serious?” Alex whined. “You guys couldn’t have waited until after the concert?”
Your jaw dropped open as the blond drummer and your brother began rummaging through their coats that had been left strewn across the dressing room couch for their wallets, each pulling out a ten-dollar bill and handing them to the guitarist.
“Y-you… you knew? And you were betting on us?” You sputtered, looking between the three guys in pure disbelief before whirling on your brother. “I can’t believe you!”
“Sorry, y/n, you’re not slick at all,” he shrugged, smiling smugly. “All the phone calls to Reggie specifically and then the good luck kisses?” He shook his head mockingly.
“But, it was fun to watch you both squirm,” Luke added and you glared at him.
“I can’t believe you guys,” you pouted, glaring at the three of them.
“Well, at least we don’t have to sneak around anymore,” Reggie pointed out, slipping his hand into your own and you turned to smile up at him.
You leaned up to press a kiss to his lips and heard the guys groan.
“Okay but I still don’t want to see that!” Bobby whined and you smiled into the kiss, flipping your twin off with your free hand.
“What the hell are you guys still doing back here, we have a show to do!” You heard Julie call, her voice getting closer as she approached. “Oh, I see. It’s great that you guys are public now but we still have to get onstage.”
You laughed as you pulled away from the kiss.
“Knock ‘em dead, rockstar,” you said softly before letting go of his hand so he could follow his bandmates out into the hallway.

Reader’s POV
Jeremy and I have been the best of friends ever since the day I was born. He might be my older brother, but I’ve always considered him more like my best friend. We used to play games together when we were younger where I’d pretend to be a princess and he was the knight protecting my castle from dragons and dangerous monsters. Or, when we were in a swimming pool, I’d pretend to be a mermaid and he was my dolphin. We played so many pretend games, I’d lost track of most of them. When we got older and made a lot of new friends, we still tried to take at least one night in the week where we’d spend time together, whether it was watching movies together or jamming or just chatting about absolute nonsense or going out together. I even got to be his best (wo)man when he married Carolynn about a month ago, and we’ve been calling each other non-stop since he started this new project of his with Netflix called Julie and The Phantoms. I helped him prepare for his audition and was equally as excited as he was when he got it. This role was written for him. Though, when bootcamp and filming started, it did mean I’d have to miss him for a very long time since he was all the way in Vancouver for months on end. So, now I’ve come up with the idea to go and visit him and Carolynn in Canada. I’d called Carolynn to help me out and surprise him. She picked me up from the airport just a few minutes ago, and as we’re catching up in the car, I can’t help but feel giddy at seeing my brother again. It feels ages since I’ve last seen him at his wedding. That’s also when I saw the rest of the cast last. Jeremy had introduced me to the ones that were at the party, and I loved hanging out with them. It felt like being introduced to one big family that quickly became part of my own family. That was one fun night, but that’s all it was. One night of spending time with all these people and then never hearing or seeing them again. To be fair, they were all really busy with rehearsals and filming and everything. “Are you ready?” Carolynn asks when we’re at the door of their Vancouver apartment. “Yes!” I reply in a hushed voice, just to make sure Jeremy doesn’t hear me. Carolynn unlocks the door and walks in first, I follow suit. My eyes dart around quickly to take in as much as possible before the two of us turn a corner to the living room here Jeremy’s on the couch, watching something on the tv. “What’re you watching, bro?” His head snaps up at the sound of my voice, his eyes widening as he takes in my presence. “No way!” he exclaims as he gets up quickly and rushes over to me, taking me in his arms in a bone-crushing hug. “I can’t believe you’re here!” he mumbles in my ear as he twirls me around. “I wanted to surprise you,” I tell him as he puts me down again, taking my hands in his instead. “I don’t go back to college until like next week, so I figured, why not?” I’m overexplaining again, I know it. Jeremy doesn’t care how I’m here, he just cares that I’m here. “You wanna come to Set with me today?” he asks with this sparkle in his eyes he only gets when he’s really excited about something. “I’m sure the others would love to see you again!” I can’t help the smile tugging at my lips as I think about how much fun they all were at the wedding. There’s no denying that I’d love to see them again too. So, I nod my head eagerly, earning an excited squeal from the boy in front of me. “The driver will be here in half an hour, you need some time to freshen up after your flight?” “Yes, please!” Carolynn guides me to the bathroom where she puts out a pair of towels for me. I shoot her a thankful smile and when she’s out of the bathroom, I get into the shower. Once I’m all dressed and ready to go, the driver is already in front of the building. “Hey, Darren,” Jeremy greets as he gets in. “My little sister’s coming with me today.” He buckles himself into the seat as I do the same. “Hi, I’m Y/N, it’s nice to meet you,” I say to the driver. He gives me a kind smile through the rearview mirror, letting out a small ‘hi’. He must not be very talkative. “What scenes are you filming today?” I ask my brother instead whilst the driver heads down to the next stop. “I think there’s a gig scene we’re filming today,” he answers, and the car comes to a standstill. “We’ve got about ten more minutes before Charlie and Owen head down. You want some coffee?” My eyes bulge out of their sockets at the thought of caffeine alone. I’ve been up for so long, I could use a good shot of wakeup-juice. “Guess that’s a yes. Let’s go!” he lets out a chuckle before getting out of the car with me in tow. “Do I need to remember anything I can or can’t do on set?” I ask the only thought that’s been haunting my mind since coming up with this idea. I knew he was going to have to work, and I also knew he would want to bring me to set. As a newbie to this entire world of filming a show, I worried I would be in the way or say the wrong things or break something. I knew I needed some pointers from my best friend to calm me down. “Just try not to trip over anything, Clumsy,” he simply answers before turning to the barista. This coffee shop seems really quiet at this time of the day, there are no customers at the counter. Just a few at the tables, most of them with their laptops open. “A large coffee with two extra espresso shots, and a medium black coffee to go, please,” he tells the man behind the counter. “Can I get your names, please?” he asks with the pen in hand. “You can write Shada on both of them,” Jeremy answers. The man nods his head curtly before scribbling down the name on both cups.  He pays the barista and then moves to the end of the counter, pulling me along.  “Filming with Kenny Ortega is really chill, Lil’ One, no need to worry,” he reassures me, taking me into a side-way hug, planting a kiss to my hair. “I’m just really nervous to be on a set, does that sound ridiculous?” I ask, twisting the bracelet around my wrist. It’s the one I got from Jeremy and Carolynn for Christmas last year. “No, I think that’s pretty normal. I ought to bring you to set more often, get you used to it all.” “Yeah,” I agree in a hushed voice, going over every possible situation that could go wrong. My train of thought is interrupted by the barista calling out our last name, sliding the two cups over at us. I grab the large cup whilst Jeremy takes his, and exit the joint to head back to the car. “Oh, seems like we’re right on time,” he points out, waving at two boys near the car. The brunette I know as Charlie, waves back before hopping into the front seat next to Darren. The blonde guy, better known as Owen, doesn’t get in yet, and instead waits for us to reach the car. He holds the door open for me, letting me get in first before hopping in himself. Jeremy jogs to the other side, getting in there. Now I’m squeezed between the two boys, clutching my coffee as if my life depends on it. “It’s good to see you again, lil’ Shada,” Charlie says, turning to face us. I giggle at the nickname. They’d called me that at the wedding. The entire night. “Surprising your big brother?” I nod my head in response. “Yeah, I didn’t have anything better to do, so… Came to annoy my brother and his buddies at work.” This makes all three boys laugh, which, not going to lie, makes me feel ten times more at ease. I thought seeing the boys again would be awkward. It’s anything but that. They make me feel so relaxed, and as though I’m a part of their group. Once we’re at the set, Jeremy introduces me to most of the crew and the rest of the cast, but especially Kenny Ortega. “Oh, look at that! Lil’ Shada’s here!” he says, opening his arms for a hug, which I gladly give him. I did meet him at the wedding, but it was so brief, I didn't think he’d remember me. “Hi, Kenny!” I greet excitedly and then let go of him. “You don’t mind if I hang around the set the next couple of days, right?” He inspects me from head to toe, eyebrows raised, and I can’t help the anxiety that’s welling up inside of me. I knew I shouldn’t have come over, I knew this was a bad idea. Kenny doesn’t want me here. I’m just going to be in the way of his mastermind working its magic on this show. I’m going to be a distraction for the actors, especially Jeremy. “Of course I don’t mind, Lil’ Shada! Jeremy's family is my family!” The pressures and intrusive thoughts wash away immediately. Those are the words I needed to hear. I sometimes think I need too much affirmation and confirmation, that other people get annoyed. My therapist told me that’s just my anxious brain speaking. He said if I want confirmation, I need to ask for it. Jeremy has been a great sport in my mental health journey from the very beginning. He took me to my sessions, did the exercises my therapist gave me with me. He’s always making sure I’m okay and gives me the confirmation I need whenever he feels I need it. Which is always at the right moment. “See, Lil’ One? Told you it would be okay!” I shoot both the men a thankful and relieved smile. Kenny places a hand on my shoulder as he passes me, leaving Jeremy and me all by ourselves. “You wanna go to makeup and wardrobe with me?” he asks, to which I nod. He then grabs my hand and leads me to the destined trailer. The second I step inside, I hear an ear-piercing screech coming from one of the chairs, and before I know it, I’m engulfed in a group hug by two pairs of arms. The sweet floral scent entering my nose tells me who it is without having to look at them. Savannah Lee May and Victoria Caro. “Hi, girlies,” I giggle, hugging them back equally as tight. The two let go of me, keeping me at arms length to inspect my entire being. Their make-up is only half done, Savannah’s hair is curled to perfection whilst Tori’s is put up in curlers. “I can’t believe you’re here, Lil’ Shada!” Savannah says, tucking a strand of my hair behind my ear. “We were just talking about you last night,” she points at Tori, who nods vigorously. “Yeah! We were wondering when we’d see you again because we missed you after your brother’s wedding!” the smaller girl explains. My heart melts at the idea of these two girls caring so much about me, they’re wondering when they’d see me again. “Aw, you guys! I missed you too!” I pout, trying my hardest not to start crying from happiness. “Hey! What about us?!” Owen’s voice sounds from the back of the trailer. I turn around to find him in the last chair, getting his hair done. “I missed you too, Owen, but I already saw you earlier!” I tell him whilst making my way to Madison and Jadah in the other chairs. I hug them each from behind, making sure not to ruin their neatly-done hair. “Yeah! But you didn’t say you missed us!” he exclaims. His bottom lip sticks out in a pout. Shaking my head, I make my way towards him and place my hands on his shoulders as I stand behind him. “I thought that was a given,” I whisper in his ear and then turn again to find Sacha and my brother near the doorway. The latter is looking at me with happiness emanating from his eyes. “Hey, Sacha!” I offer the boy a wave, which he returns with a smile. A busy-looking woman squeezes past me towards Owen, so I take a step back to give her more room. I watch her as she plays around with his hair, using spritzes of hairspray to keep it in place. I always loved doing other people’s hair when I was younger. I braided all of my cousins’ hair or used curlers on them whilst playing ‘hair-dresser’. My love for hairdressing went out the door as I got older and more anxious, but seeing this woman play around with Owen’s hair so determinedly, it reawakens the desire and enthusiasm. “This is Teresa,” Owen says when he catches me staring at his head and Teresa’s fingers. “She’s a magician when it comes to hair.” Teresa shoots me a kind smile through the mirror, which I nervously return. They caught me staring, that must’ve been a weird -- and kind of creepy, let’s be honest -- sight. “Y/N used to dream about becoming a hairdresser,” Jeremy informs them when he’s taken a seat in one of the chairs too. As both Teresa and Owen look at me with surprise in their eyes, I feel the heat rising to my cheeks. “You wanna give it a try?” Teresa asks, stepping aside from Owen. I open my mouth in pure horror, not knowing what to tell her. There’s no way I could ever do what Teresa’s doing. What if I mess it up entirely? What if I ruin all the work Teresa has put into his hair? What if I ruin Owen’s hair? “There’s not much you can do wrong with Owen’s hair. It pretty much just does what you ask,” Teresa tries to reassure me after probably seeing the absolute horror in my face.  I glance at Owen in the mirror. He gives me an encouraging nod. “Okay…” I mumble and step up to his chair. “How do you need his hair?” I ask Teresa. Owen’s character Alex probably has a specific way to how he wears his hair. He’s a ghost from the 90’s, I’m sure it’s a little different from his usual hairstyle. “Leonardo DiCaprio from Titanic,” Teresa simply replies, which is enough for me to know. I nervously raise my fingers to Owen’s head, suddenly anxious about the fact that I’m going to be touching this attractive man’s hair. My eyes dart over to his reflection in the mirror, our eyes locking. He licks his lips before they curl up into a smile that gives me enough encouragement to just go for it. I play around with it a little and grab a comb to guide me before asking the hairspray. Teresa hands me the bottle and I spritz some more of the product onto his blonde locks. Though Teresa has already done the works, pretty much, I’m just left with the finishing touches. It takes me about five minutes to get it in perfect shape. “You can tell you’ve had years of practice,” Teresa says, impressed at my work. “I mean, you pretty much did the gist, I just… finished it…” I trail off shyly. I avert my eyes from Teresa to Owen, who’s checking himself out in the mirror. “No offense, T,” he starts, turning to Teresa, “But I think someone’s coming for your job.” I’m frozen to the floor from the compliments that I don’t even move when Owen gets up from his chair and turns around. Suddenly, he’s mere inches away from me and all I can do is crane my neck to look up at him. A vibe I never felt around him when I first met him surrounds us now, resting down on us like a blanket. I don’t know why this is happening or how, but all I can see for a good minute is Owen and his tender smile. Until he places his hands on my waist, picks me up, and puts me down again a feet further. “I gotta go,” he says with a smile, “See you around, Lil’ Shada.” He boops my nose. The sudden movement startles me a little. I watch him walk out of the trailer before I come back from my daze and find everyone else in the trailer looking at me. “What?!” I ask, confused at why I’m being stared at. “What was that about?” Jadah asks, chuckling as she turns to face me. “What was what?” I ask again, seriously unaware what had just happened. “You, pretty much drowning in Owen’s eyes,” Madison reminds me. The thought of Owen’s eyes looking into mine just minutes ago warms me up from the inside out. Especially the nose-boop. “What?! No, I wasn’t,” I deny, but I don’t think I can hide it from either of these people. Thank God Jeremy had left before Owen. He would not have liked that. Jeremy is an amazing brother, but he can get a little overprotective when it comes to love-interests. “I’m gonna go…” I cough awkwardly, trying to come up with a good excuse, “Find my brother…” That feeling I had in that trailer doesn’t subside for the rest of the day. Sometimes I think it does, and then Owen looks my way or sends me a wink from the other side of the room and I’m back to feeling absolutely and utterly mushy. “Hey, you wanna go get lunch with us, Lil’ One?” Jeremy asks around noon when they’re done filming the scene. I take a look behind him, Owen and Charlie standing there, awaiting my answer. I lock eyes with Owen again, and he offers me a beautiful smile that persuades me. “Yeah, sure,” I reply and link my arm with Jeremy’s. The two other boys fall into step with us, Owen on my left, Charlie on Jeremy’s right. “Where are the others?” I ask. Not that I don’t like the idea of having lunch with these three boys. I just really like hanging out with the others too. “They had to start filming another scene, they had lunch earlier,” Jeremy informs me as we enter the restaurant on the other side of the street from the lot.  Owen takes a seat next to me while Jeremy and Charlie sit down on the opposite side of the table. “So, Lil’ Shada,” Charlie starts after we’ve ordered our food and drinks. “I heard you did Owen’s hair this morning…” I am taken aback by his subject of choice, especially since he makes it sound so teasing. My eyes dart from my brother to Charlie and back, unsure of what to say. Owen jumps to the rescue then, feeling me tense up beside him. “Yeah, she did a wonderful job! Her fingers are kinda like magic.” I look up at him, earning a smile from him in return. “Yeah, well, what can I say? It’s a talent,” I flip my hair over my shoulder confidently, though in my mind I’m wondering where all this confidence comes from. Even Jeremy is a little surprised by it whilst the other boys just laugh. “Maybe you should ask Kenny to start next week,” Charlie suggests with an excited grin. “Yeah! Then you could stay with us longer!” Owen’s enthusiasm dazzles me even more so than the words that come out of his mouth. He wants me to stay longer… “I still have to get through college, you guys. I can’t just quit?” I’m catapulted back into reality as those words roll off my mouth. “Do you know how much college costs?!” Owen and Charlie share a glance, wondering if either one of them knows. “I’m an actor, Lil’ Shada, so no…” Owen whispers in my ear without breaking eye contact with his buddy on the other side of the table. I let out a laugh, shaking my head in amusement. “How long are you staying?” Charlie then asks, his eyes flickering from me to Owen and back. “A week. I start college again next Monday,” I reply when the waitress finally brings us our food. “Thank you,” I say to her with a smile, the others doing the same. “So, you’re just gonna stay a week?” Owen queries before taking a bite from his lunch. “Yep… Going home on Sunday,” I answer. The disappointment in his face is prominent. “But I might come back soon if Jeremy will let me.” My eyes dart over to my brother, who hasn’t said much since we sat down. “Can’t really say no to Lil’ Shada, can I?” My lips curl up in thankfulness. “Besides, I think the rest of the cast would hate my ass if I took you away from them.” His eyes flick towards Owen for a split second. He has caught on to the vibe Owen and I have been giving off towards each other. Maybe it’s not just in my mind. “That’s very true,” Owen agrees, his mouth full of food. I turn my head to look at him, eyebrows raised at his immature way of eating his food. My eyes then fall on his chin, which has a little dressing seeping down it. I raise my hand and swipe my finger across his skin, taking the sauce away. He freezes at that moment, halting mid-chew. “Dressing,” I show him before licking it off my thumb. He swallows harshly and when I look back at the boys on the other side of the table, they’re staring at me too with wide eyes. “Someone ought to get this dude a bib,” I joke, trying to take the tension away. Charlie lets out a laugh, nodding his head agreeingly before turning back to his food. My brother, however, just raises his eyebrows at me. He doesn’t love the idea of his little sister being intimate with anyone. Especially not one of his best buddies. I can’t help it though. I’m a twenty-one year old woman, I have feelings. I have hormones. Jeremy’s overprotectiveness isn’t going to take away the fun from this week. I’m not going to let it.
And I don’t. I spend the entire week on set, either hanging out with some of the girls or with my brother and the other boys. Teresa lets me help out in the mornings with the cast’s hair, teaching me some new tips and tricks. If anything, it just brings me closer to the cast, which is a nice bonus. Mainly because it also brings me closer to Owen. The connection we created during my time in Vancouver has only grown from that first day. Whenever Jeremy’s  not around or he can’t hear it, the two of us harmlessly flirt with one another and, whenever he doesn’t have a scene to shoot, we hang out together. One day, he took me to Julie’s bedroom set where we sat on her bed and talked until we fell asleep huddled up into a cuddle. Jeremy wasn’t happy when he found us like that. Even though I did tell him it was just an innocent nap. He didn’t take it. My brother’s disapproval didn’t stop us though. We just kept going to that set to take a nap together. It has become my favorite part of the day. “Hey,” he captures my attention. We’re cuddled up on Julie’s bed, legs entangled. My head’s resting on his chest, one arm slung over his stomach whilst the other is squished between our bodies. He has his left arm draped around my shoulder, his fingers trailing up and down my arm. “What?” I ask, looking up at him. He’s staring at the decorative lights above us. “Do you really have to leave tomorrow?” His voice sounds so soft, I’d almost believe he’s sad. “I mean… Yeah… I don’t think I can miss my first classes of the semester,” I whisper as though it’s a secret. My fingers start drawing patterns on his chest and abdomen as my eyes focus on them instead of his face. I’m too scared I might kiss him if I keep looking at him.  “Can’t you follow them online? Or just… I don’t know…” he exhales deeply, my head bobbing along. “I just don’t want you to leave yet.” I want to reply, but people bursting in the room cut me off. I scramble upright, terrified it might be Jeremy. Instead, Owen and I are tackled by Charlie, Savannah and Madison. “Group cuddle!” they scream, making me and Owen giggle. I go back to my previous position while Charlie comes to rest his head on my thigh, his arms around my waist, the rest of his body curled up between Owen and me. Savannah takes Owen’s other side, mirroring my position while Madi rests her head on his stomach. “What were you guys chatting about so intimately?” Savannah asks, followed by a yawn. “Me leaving,” I sigh joylessly. I feel Charlie’s arms tighten around me and Owen tense beneath me. Savannah’s eyes lock with mine, a pout forming on her face. “I don’t want you to leave. It’s been way too fun with you around,” she whispers. “I agree,” Charlie mutters. “Ditto,” says Madison, making me smile widely. Even more so when Owen presses a kiss to my hair. This is where I want to be for the rest of my life. Not on some stupid campus studying for a job I don’t even want to do. I need more time with these people. And I’m going to get it. It’s about time I did something for myself instead of constantly doing shit for others.
“Can I talk to you guys for a moment?” I ask Carolynn and Jeremy at the dinner table. Jeremy halts, his fork lifted mid-air, while Carolynn simply places her cutlery down, giving me her undivided attention. I inhale deeply, trying to gather all of my courage. “I was wondering if I could stay here a little longer? I haven’t talked to mom and dad yet, but I wanna do an independent study this year while interning with Teresa.” Jeremy drops his fork on his plate, a loud clatter echoing through the place. “She asked if that would be something I’m interested in, and to be quite frank, I am. Helping around this week really reminded me of how much I loved doing it.” I glance at Jeremy, noticing how tense and frustrated he’s becoming with every word I say. “Being a doctor was never my dream, Jer. It was mom’s. I think I need to do this. I need to do more things for myself instead of wanting to please others.” “I agree, sweetie,” Carolynn chimes in, offering me a supportive smile before the two of us turn back to the man of the house. He has his lips pursed, clearly mulling this over in his head. “This is about Owen, isn’t it?” he finally asks. The mention of the boy I had grown so attached to startles me at first, I didn’t expect him to be brought up in this conversation since it has nothing to do with him. “He put you up to this?” I open my mouth, but no sound comes out. I have no clue what to tell him. On one hand, I do want more time with him and Charlie and all the other cast members. I want more time with my brother. But I can’t hide that it’s mostly Owen that’s drawing me here. Spending time with him made me feel so much more connected to myself, in some way. He calms my anxiety. He makes me feel happy. Genuinely happy. “Of course he didn’t, Jer. Why would he do that?” I finally manage to bring out. “Because you’re clearly in love with him, Y/N!” The loudness of his voice and harshness of his tone makes me flinch. “But he’s not right for you! He’s distracting you from your goals, making you think this is what you want! You don’t know what love feels like but you think you do! You and Owen can’t happen, and you can’t stay here. You have to go back home!” The anger and frustration builds inside of me, and pours out in the form of tears. “You don’t have a say in this, Jer! I am twenty-one, I’m not a child anymore! I can decide what I want to do with my life and I can decide who I love!” I’m surprised by the words that flow out of my mouth. “I get that you wanna be the protective brother, Jeremy, but this is going too far. You have to let me make my own mistakes! You have to let me live my life the way I want it to!” He angrily shoves his chair back when he stands up in frustration, making Carolynn flinch. “You’re still a child, Y/N!” he shouts at me. I stand up too, leaning my hands on the tabletop. “I’m not even a year younger than you, Jer! If I’m a child, so are you!” I yell back. “At least I’m married and have a family!” he aggressively points at Carolynn, who’s rubbing her face in desperation. My eyes flicker from my sister-in-law back to my brother. “I would be in a relationship if you didn’t scare off every person I ever brought home!” “I didn’t want you getting hurt, but did I ever get a thank you for that?!” I scoff at him. He’s not playing the petty card right now. “That’s just life, Jer! People get hurt! People break your heart! But you never even let me experience that pain because you’re too obsessed with being the good brother!” My heart is pounding out of my chest. Jeremy and I have never fought like this. Sure, we used to bicker when we were teenagers, but it’s always been something stupid. This screaming match sounds like years of bundled up distress from both of us. “You have a hero complex, Jer…” I lower the volume of my own voice. Jeremy lets his head drop, knowing all too well I’m right. About everything. About the hero complex, about him meddling in my life. Everything. “I think it’s better if you go to your room for a while, Y/N,” Carolynn orders sweetly. The pent-up anger still hasn’t gone completely, it makes me want to lash out at Carolynn too. “Still not a child,” I mutter instead before grabbing my bag and leaving the apartment. Once the cold Vancouver air hits me, the realization of what just happened does too. The tears escape again, along with anger and regret. I don’t regret what I said to my brother. It’s the truth. It’s exactly what I’ve been thinking for years. What I do regret is telling him all of that in a burst of anger instead of a civilized conversation like we used to back in the day. That’s the only thing I really do regret. After a while of roaming the streets of Vancouver and getting riled up about the whole situation again, I find myself aggressively knocking at Charlie and Owen’s door. I don’t know where else to go and Owen’s the only one who could calm me down from the anger and frustration I’m still holding inside for my brother. I still can’t believe he even dared to say that to me. “Lil’ Shada!” Charlie greets excitedly, but his smile quickly disappears upon seeing my state of being. Jaw clenched, balled fists, tears running down my face. “Hey, Gorgeous, are you okay?” Owen appears in the door too after hearing Charlie utter my nickname. Upon seeing the boy, I race into the apartment, grab his face and bring him down to meet his lips. He’s startled at the force and aggression I’m putting into this kiss, but that soon dissolves when he kisses back. His hands find their way to my waist, pulling me closer and closer until I can’t do anything else but wrap my legs around his waist. He holds me tight, scared he might drop me while my fingers find their way into his hair. I pull back from his lips, but keep my forehead pressed to his. Both of us are panting from the intensity. I can tell from that sparkle in his eyes he  has no clue what happened, but he wanted it to happen for a while.  “I’m gonna stay,” I tell him in a whisper, which only makes the sparkle in his eyes more earnest. Without another doubt, he crashes his lips on mine again. This time, he takes it a little slower, making it more sensational without depriving it from the sizzle from before. I try to forget about the fight I’d just had with Jeremy and focus solely on Owen, but my brain counteracts. His words are on repeat in my mind like syncopated beats. This time Owen pulls back when he no doubtedly tastes the saltiness of my tears mixing in with the passion. He looks at me, the sparkle in his eyes making room for worry. “Hey, hey, what’s wrong?” he whispers, putting me down on my feet again but keeping his arms around me and my body close. “I’m sorry, I just…” I inhale sharply, “I had a major fight with Jeremy and I just can’t shake it. I have never seen him like this…” Owen snakes his arms around my shoulders, pushing him closer into his chest. He lets me cry for a while, holding me in his arms until I’ve calmed down a little. He takes me to the couch where Charlie’s sitting too. I hadn’t even noticed him still in the room, let alone that he moved. “Talk to me, Gorgeous,” Owen whispers, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. He’d stopped calling me “Lil’ Shada” a while ago, which makes me feel like I’m more than just Jer’s little sister. Savannah told me it was what he did to anyone he liked. Those little details are his way of showing his appreciation or love to someone.  I like the small details in Owen’s love language. “I wanted to ask him and Care if I could stay at their place a little while longer, and I told him about the independent study and internship I wanted to do while here. For some reason, he thought I was doing all of this for you, that you put me up to this.” Owen inhales sharply at this. I can tell he hates being part of a fight between two people that mean a lot to him. “I told him it had nothing to do with you, but he didn’t believe me. He was shouting and screaming that I was still a child and that I couldn’t make my own decisions. I told him he had a hero complex,” I scoff at myself. This whole fight sounds even more ridiculous now. “Told him that he wants to be the good brother and that he has this idea of being a good brother that doesn’t let his little sister live… or love.” Owen’s eyes flick at mine, a small smile tugging at his lips. “I shouldn’t have shouted at him though… This was all just pent-up anger and frustration from the past twenty-one years. I should’ve just told him to back off like an adult instead of yelling at him like a child.” I glance at Charlie, who had been listening to the entire conversation. His eyes look somber, almost heartbroken. These two boys are just too good for this world. I can’t imagine a life without them anymore. “We both acted like children,” I mutter, shaking my head. There’s rap on the door, shaking all three of us awake from the somber cloud we’re all on because of me. We exchange glances, knowing exactly who’s at the door. Charlie goes first, Owen and me following suit. The anxiety welling up inside of me must be visible to him because he takes my hand, intertwining our fingers as we stand a little behind Charlie as he opens the door. “Hey, Char… Is Y/N here?” I hear my brother ask. The Canadian boy opens the door a little further, presenting Owen and I. Jeremy had been crying too, I can tell. His eyes are red and puffy, his lips swollen from biting on them in distress. “I’m so sorry, Lil’ One,” he mutters from the door. That’s enough for me to let go of Owen and launch myself into my brother’s arms. He’s stunned at first, but then wraps his arms around me too. “I know I can be a little overbearing sometimes, but you have to know it’s only because I love you,” he whispers in my ear, followed by a sniffle. “You’re an adult, just like me, and it’s time I treat you like one.” I push him back slightly but keep my hands on his shoulders. “It’s about time you figured that out.” He lets out a chuckle, dropping his head in defeat. “Hey,” he looks back up. “Thanks for looking out for me. I know you mean well.” “We’re family, Lil’ One, we’re supposed to look out for one another,” he looks past me at the two other boys, “We’re all family.” Charlie and Owen walk up to us, the latter scratching the back of his head with a pained expression on his face. “Yeah, can we not call it a family? Because otherwise, I’m in love with a family member.” He places his hands on my shoulders and presses a kiss to my hair. I meet his eyes whilst my heart beats faster. He’s in love with me. A boy I’m in love with is in love with me too. I mean, of course he is, he wouldn’t have kissed me like that. Jeremy glances from me to Owen and back, trying to decide what to think about this entire situation. I can tell it’s hard for him to let this idea of his little sister go, but he’s trying. “Be careful with her, alright? You might be my best friend, but I will not hesitate to kill you,” Jeremy’s pointing at Owen, a harsh look on his face. “Bro, I could never hurt her,” he reassures my older brother, and me at the same time. “You better keep that promise, Joyner!” That night, Jeremy calls Carolynn over too, and the five of us sit on the couch all night, talking and watching movies. I love being in Owen’s arms so much. Though we used to cuddle and be flirty with each other before, it really does give a whole different vibe knowing I could just turn my head and kiss him now. My parents allow me to stay in Vancouver and go through with my plan, much to all of our relief. Days on set are amazing. I help Teresa and the other hairstylists every morning and during all the scenes when they need touch ups, spend every night at Owen’s and Charlie’s place, and have the most fun I ever had in my life with all these people around here. “Cuddle session?” Owen whispers in my ear when we’re rounding up the scene. His sudden hands on my shoulders and lips against my ear makes me jump at first, but I calm down just as quickly. “Baby, I’m working,” I giggle, clearing all the hair products from the table, knowing he’ll convince me within five seconds. Teresa really is a very loose mentor and wouldn’t mind if I escaped now. “But you’re almost finished though? And Teresa is here to take over from you?” he tries, which makes me look up at him, and then at Teresa. The woman I call my Canadian mother winks at me, letting me know I’m good to go. I turn around in Owen’s arms, wrapping my arms around his neck. “You are so lucky Teresa’s this awesome,” I tell him and peck his lips quickly. “Thank you, T.” I grab Owen’s hand and guide him to the bedroom set we’d used so many times for cuddles, whether that be alone or with the others. The second we’re in the room, Owen tugs at my arm, making me stumble into him with a squeal. Before I can ask what he’s doing, he cups my face with his warm hands and brings me in for a passionate kiss. He pushes me backwards when I kiss back, right until I feel the bed push into the back of my knees. I crawl backwards, Owen following suit as he’s still attached to my lips. He pulls back for a moment, looking me in the eyes with those tender eyes of his. He’s holding up his weight by placing a hand next to my head, using the other to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. “I love you,” he whispers, causing the corners of my mouth to curl up into a smile automatically. “I love you too,” I whisper back and diminish the space between our lips by pulling him down by the back of his neck. My fingers tangle up into the blonde hair I styled this morning. Doing his hair might just be my favorite part of the day, along with this. “Group cuddle!” Our intimate moment is disturbed by a mop of our friends attacking us on the bed. With a groan, Owen drops next to me, the others piling onto us. That lunch break, all of us take a collective nap on Julie’s bed, some on stomachs, on chests, shoulders, thighs. All our limbs are tangled up together, no bystander would be able to tell which limb belongs to who. To say my new job is the best ever would be an understatement.

"Reggie look what the Easter bunny brought me!" You said happily.
"Can you share?" He asked.
"Fine. Here." You passed him a egg full of chocolate kisses. "All you get though he left this for me." You sassed.
"Okay!" Reggie happily began eating the chocolate. Luke walked out of the bathroom immediately noticed 7 year old you digging through the basket.

headcannon for Reggie's older sibling stress smoking and trying to stop but Reggie and the band catch them with a cigarette again
alrighty! and i’ll do it with a gn reader
Tumblr media
you weren’t always a smoker
it started when someone offered you one, under normal circumstances you would have declined, but the fights at home were getting louder and worse so you took it
it was a secret at first and you were very good at hiding it until reggie came back home one day when he was supposed to be at alex’s
“yn w-what are you doing?”
“i-its nothing reg,”
“nn, are you okay?”
you sighed, “i-...no,”
reggie sat with you and you talked it out a bit, he encouraged you to quit and you promised you would try
it was growing great at first, the only downside being your increased hunger
you had told the boys about everything and they insisted supporting you
things were fine until that one night
your parents were yelling and somehow you were caught in the middle of it
and when you couldn’t take it anymore you ran out, grabbing a spare cigarette you had tossed aside and started smoking again
the boys were unaware of this for a good few months before you got careless and they caught you
“yn what happened you were doing so well!” luke said
“come on, whatever it is we can help,” bobby insisted
you broke down in your younger brother’s arms letting the boys come around you and offer comfort
“anything you need yn, we’re gonna be there for you,” alex whispered
“always,” reggie agreed pressed a kiss to your hair “we love you, yn, always,”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been two years of them dating in 1995 and Luke still hadn’t noticed.
Even after 25 years of them being dead, he still hadn’t noticed. (Y/n) counted that as an accomplishment. Her boyfriend Reggie did not like sneaking around, hiding their relationship from her brother, but the girl insisted, knowing what the consequences might be if they were caught.
“Why can’t we just tell him?”
“Reggie, I don’t want to come between you guys. You’re best friends; you’re my best friends. I don’t want to be the reason the band fights. We just need to be patient.”
After Julie got them back to the real world it was a hard adjustment. Apparently, 90’s fashion is considered cringey now. Luckily she could stay behind the scenes, helping write songs and edit videos.
“For a 42-year-old girl you sure can edit videos really well,” Julie laughed.
“This is amazing! If I had had this back in high school I would’ve been the most popular kid in school.”
“So,” Julie said flopping down on the bed, “what are you going to do about Reggie and Luke?”
(Y/) sighed, “I don’t know. I should tell him soon but there’s never a good time.”
“The longer you wait the angrier he’s going to be when he finds out.”
“I know,” (Y/n) put her head in her hands.
“You’ll figure it out, I know you can,” Julie said, ruffling (Y/n)’s hair as she walked away.
At least now when Reggie and (Y/n) snuck out it was easier yet harder at the same time. On one hand, they could teleport to anywhere they knew, on the other hand, so could Luke. They had to choose places he wouldn’t think to look and come up with game plans for if he accidentally showed up somewhere.
“Reggie,” (Y/n) giggled, “We have to go soon, the bands probably waiting on us.”
Reggie smiled as he placed a few more kisses on the girl’s face before grabbing her hand and teleporting back outside of the garage.
“Where have you two been?” Alex said, bringing Luke and Julie’s attention to the late band members walking through the door.
“Uhhh-”
(Y/n) spoke for him, “We went down to the boulevard to hang up flyers for this weekend's show. Like Julie asked me to.”
Julie’s eyebrows furrowed before she saw the mock flyers in the girl’s hand and decided to let it go.
“You two went alone?” Luke asked suspiciously.
“Yeah…” (Y/n) said quietly. Panic quickly rose in her mind as she tried to find another way out of this, “I- didn’t want to go alone! So Reggie offered to help me.”
She nudged the boy’s elbow telling him it was his turn, “Yeah! I mean, I just didn’t want her to be alone and have something happen.”
Luke seemed to accept that answer, “Next time I can go with you (Y/n).”
(Y/n) smiled before giving Reggie’s arm a squeeze and sitting down on the couch to watch practice.
A few days later the couple found themselves in a rather troubling situation.
Band practice had been going as normal for the most part. (Y/n), Julie, and Luke had all been working tirelessly on this new song and everyone was very happy with it.
(Y/n) leaned over to continue on a new verse, her hair fell down in her face and Reggie pushed it back behind her ear without a second thought.
 The action didn’t go unnoticed by Luke.
“So,” he said, placing his guitar on the stand and leaning back in his chair, “When were you two gonna tell me?”
(Y/n) looked over at Reggie confused.
“What do you mean man?”
“I mean when were you going to tell me you had a thing for my little sister?”
Reggie's face went pale and (Y/n) started to blush.
Reggie finally spoke up, “Dude, why would you think that?”
“It all makes sense now, why you guys are always missing and come back together, why (Y/n) always saves a spot next to her for you at dinner, why you always look for her first in the crowd. I thought it was because you were best friends. Why would you go behind my back like this?”
Julie tried to step in, “Luke they-”
“Stop it,” he snapped, “I really don’t want to hear it.”
Luke stood up and disappeared from the room leaving a distraught (Y/n) and shocked Julie.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Following that incident, Luke refused to talk to Reggie or (Y/n). Most days (Y/n) had to excuse herself from practice to go and hide her tears in the bathroom of the garage. Reggie always came to check on her after practice.
When Julie walked in on Reggie holding a sobbing (Y/n) she finally snapped back.
“What did you say to her?” she said as she stormed back into the garage.
Luke looked up confused, “Who?”
“(Y/n)! She’s outside sobbing and I want to know what the heck you said to my best friend.”
“I just said I didn’t want to talk to someone who keeps secrets.”
Julie rolled her eyes, “So you’re just going to ignore the fact that you go to your parents’ house without telling her?”
“That’s different,” he scoffed as he put his guitar back into its stand.
“How is it any different?” Julie threw her hands up, “Your sister is out there heartbroken because what she did to try and protect the band is blowing up in her face. She only hid it from you because she didn’t want it to affect how you see Reggie! Luke, if you don’t fix this now I’m not coming to the next performance.”
Luke gawked as Julie turned on her heel and walked out.
When Luke finally came to his senses he left the garage in search of his sister. He found her in the driveway, being held by Reggie as tears ran down her face.
“Hey,” he said, Reggie looked up with a frown on his face, “Can I talk to (Y/n) for a minute?”
(Y/n) wiped the tears away with the back of her hand and nodded at her concerned boyfriend. Reggie gave her a kiss on the forehead as he left.
“(Y/n)...”
She sniffled and held back more tears, “Luke if you don’t want me around just say it. I won’t show up to practices anymore and-”
“That’s not what I want you to do.”
“Then what?” she looked up at him and his heart broke.
Standing in front of him was his little sister, the little sister he hurt by his own words.
“(Y/n), I’m so sorry. I acted so stupid. I promise I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings, I just don’t want you to be hurt by anyone.”
(Y/n) wiped her tears away, “You think Reggie would hurt me?”
“No! No. I just… I don’t want to have to beat up any boy for hurting you. I guess... if anyone’s going to be a good choice for you it would be him. I promise I won’t bother you guys about it anymore,” he said, putting his hands on her shoulders.
“Promise?”
Luke nodded and wiped away his sister’s tears with his thumb. (Y/n) pulled him into a tight hug.
“Band practice is canceled!” Julie yelled.
(Y/n) turned to Luke and smiled.
“Go, you guys can go,” Luke said.
(Y/n) stood on her toes to kiss her brother on the cheek. Reggie walked down the steps, catching his girlfriend as she jumped into his arms. Both of them giggling.
Julie walked up to Luke, “You did good.”
“I hope so,” Luke sighed, “Cause it’d be a shame if I had to punch my best friend.”
Julie laughed, “They’ll be fine.”
Luke and Julie smiled as they watched the two run off hand in hand.

Alex and Reggie sat impatiently in the Molina living room, waiting for someone to tell them what’s going on. “Man, where’s Luke? And Y/N?” Alex asked as his head fell back against the couch.
Reggie just laughed at him. “It’s my sister and Luke on his birthday. Where do you think they are?”
“How is it that we died and those too still haven’t confessed their feelings?”
“I don’t know!” Reggie exclaimed, almost falling off the couch arm he was sitting on. “We should just lock them in a room together until they finally tell each other how they feel.”
Alex stared at him, a few blinks crossing his eyes until he shook his head softly. “Okay.” He didn’t want to tell Reggie that the two of you could easily leave the room by walking right through the door.
Luke and you appeared right in between Alex and Reggie, both of the smiles slipping off your faces when you realize they’re sitting alone in the dark. “Is Julie not back yet?” Reggie shook his head and your worry was slightly higher now that you realized Julie wasn’t in the clear yet.
“So,” Alex started smirking as Luke and you glanced over to him. “Where were you two?” Luke smacked his chest but before either of you could answer, Carlos walked in and held up what you assumed was a tablet, scanning it around the room.
“You can’t hide forever, ghosties.” He whispered and you looked on with amusement, always fascinated with Carlos’ commitment to seeing you all. “Gotcha!” He yelled and your eyes widened before you realized he wasn’t facing your way at all. It turns out what Carlos had thought was you all, was his Tia Victoria who was absolutely done with his whole ghost hunt.
She flicked on the light. “For the last time mijo, ghosts are not real.”
“Typical adult.” Reggie sighed out before turning to the 3 of you. “Remember when we were kids, and they never believed what we said?”
“Yeah. I’m pretty sure that’s just a ‘you’ thing.” You rubbed the back of your neck and nodded at Alex’s words.
“Yeah, we were all pretty trustworthy.” You agreed and this time it was Alex’s turn to nod.
“I’m trustworthy!” Reggie countered and you shot him a glare.
“When I was three you convinced me that jumping off the counter was a good idea.”
“And you trusted me!”
“Yeah, and that was the last time!”
“Shouldn’t we be more worried about Julie?” Luke asked over your banter and you pressed your lips together and gave him a reluctant nod.
“You’re right.” Reggie agreed before leaning over to you. “Besides, you weren’t an adult.” He whispered and you pushed him away, making him stumble off the couch enough to need to sit on the arm again.
“And somehow you still aren’t one.” You deadpanned.
“Guys!” Luke said and his hand fell on your knee unknowingly. “Her dad just busted her. He’s probably making her quit the band.” His eyes flickered down to your knee before looking to your face, noticing you were staring straight ahead and Luke pulled his hand away quickly.
“There’s not much we can do about it now.” Reggie said, breaking the thoughts in your head that lingered after Luke’s touch. How something as small as his hand on your knee could cause your entire brain to malfunction, you weren’t sure. “but we can still help Carlos.”
You quirked a brow. “Yeah?” Reggie nodded. “How?”
“Adults not believing children ends tonight.” He looked over to Carlos and his tia before rubbing his hands together. “Showtime.”
Watching him start to reach for the light behind him, your eyes widened. “Oh no, Reg I don’t think that’s a good-“
He turned the light off before you could finish the sentence. Carlos and Tia Victoria gasped as they looked at the light that suddenly turned off. “Ghosts aren’t real, huh? How do you explain that?”
“Light bulbs burn out all the time, Carlos.”
You sucked in a breath and looked to Alex and Luke who were both in various stages of annoyance at Reggie’s decisions. “Oooh, wrong answer, tia. Explain this!” He moved to the shades and started pulling them open and closed.
You and Luke both leaned back on the couch at the same time and watched Reggie practically reveal your presence to Julie’s family.
“Maybe it’s my mom!” Carlos called out. “She knows I haven’t been replacing the toilet paper!”
“Your mama would never scare us. This is the work of a demon!”
At Tia Victoria’s cries, Reggie stopped the shade pulling. “Hey, words hurt.” He said softly and you rolled your eyes.
“Is he serious?” You whispered to Luke who shrugged lazily.
Carlos wanted to record Reggie’s antics and Reggie decided to pull out “a classic”. He pulled a white sheet of a bag in front of him and threw it over his head before moving his body. To you, it looked like all the times Reggie and you pretended to be ghosts as a child, but to Carlos and Tia Victoria, you were sure it looked much scarier. They didn’t know how harmless Reggie truly was. Tia Victoria couldn’t get any words out as she screamed and dragged Carlos out of the room.
Reggie snickered as he took the sheet off and turned to see the unimpressed faces of you all.
“Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” Alex asked him after Reggie sat down.
“Yeah, I do.” Reggie pushed a hand through his hair. “I just defended every kid who was never believed. Some might say I’m a superhero.”
“Some might say you’re stupid.” You said sweetly, putting on the face of the happy sister.
Reggie took a second before his eyes widened. “We should probably hide before Julie finds out, huh?” Reggie scrambled off the couch and with a look shared between Alex, Luke, and you, the two of them jumped up to follow him.
“We didn’t do anything wrong, why are we hiding?” you mumbled under your breath as you followed after them.
---
You saw the light flicker on in Julie’s room as you glanced over to the boys, seeing they were deep in their conversation about how amazing their performance was. You waited a few minutes, seeing as they weren’t paying attention to you before you teleported outside of Julie’s room.
“Knock, Knock!” you shouted and after a few seconds, you heard Julie’s voice telling you to come in. You walked through her door, barely getting a few steps inside before jumping onto her bed. “So how bad is it?” you asked, referring to her and her dad.
She shrugged, putting her vest on a hanger and putting it in her closet. “Not as bad as it could’ve been, I guess.”
“Is he making you quit the band?”
Shaking her head, she gave you a smile. “No, he’s just mad that I snuck out and didn’t tell him about it.”
You scrunched your face, something she noticed and questioned you about. “It was kinda my idea to sneak you out.”
“Y/N, I don’t blame you.” She chuckled softly. “Luke opened the window, we’ll blame him.”
You let out a louder laugh, biting the inside of your cheek. “Okay, deal. We’ll blame Luke.”
Julie fell onto the bed next to you, both of you staring up at the ceiling in comfortable silence. “So, when are you going to tell Luke?”
You furrowed your brows as confusion came over you. “Tell Luke what? That we’re blaming him?”
Julie gave you that look, the one that told you she was unimpressed by your avoidance of the answer, but you truly had no idea what she was talking about. “That you like him.” Oh. That’s what she’s talking about.
“Never.” You told her with a smile and Julie let out a groan. “Don’t groan at me! When are you going to tell Nick? Huh?” Her face fell and you knew what her answer would be. “I’m glad to know that talking to cute boys does not get easier in the 21st century.”
“I don’t think it ever will.” She mumbled and you nodded.
You didn’t stay in Julie’s room much longer, knowing the girl needed to get her rest. When you got back to the studio, the boys were finished with their conversation.
“Hey,” Luke called out and you could hear the faint strumming of his guitar stop as you turned around to see him looking at you. The smile on his face made you practically melt, but you held yourself up and moved to sit on the couch next to him. “Where’d you go?”
“Went to talk to Julie.” As you spoke quietly to him, you turned to throw your legs in his lap. You thought he’d ignore them or push them off a little so he could play his guitar, but instead, he took pulled the instrument from around his neck and set it next to him as his hand fell softly on your leg.
“How’s it looking for the band?” His thumb started moving slowly and you had to pull your eyes away from his hand and to his eyes.
“Hmmm? Oh uh, her dad’s cool with it. Just a little mad about the sneaking out part of the night.” Luke nodded, relieved that Julie wasn’t being forced to quit the band.
“Maybe next time you shouldn’t suggest sneaking her out.” The corners of Luke’s lips flickered up in a smirk and you scoffed at his joke.
“Yeah, Julie and I decided to blame you on that so…” you trailed off, hearing Luke’s chuckle flutter out into the room as you leaned back on the couch and let yourself relax. Luke couldn’t help but admire you once again as you laid back with your eyes closed and a smile on your lips.
“You can’t blame me, it’s my birthday.”
“Not anymore Patterson, it’s after midnight.” You pointed the clock even with your eyes closed and Luke squeezed your leg, making the smile on your lips widen and Luke definitely noticed. After realizing he was silent for a little too long, you peaked your eye open to see Luke’s eyes scanning your face, causing you to suck in a breath of doubt. “What?”
“Hmm?”
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Like what?” He narrowed his brows but his eyes never left your face.
You gestured your face around his face. “Like that- I don’t know. Like you’re being weird.”
“I’m being weird?”
You pursed your lips and shook your head. “Forget it. Now we’re both being weird.” You mumbled, grabbing a pillow and holding it in front of your face. It was only there for a few seconds before you felt Luke start to move and the pillow slowly being pulled out from in front of your face. He was a lot closer than he was before and Luke didn’t say anything, neither did you, but you shared a smile as your eyes locked.
“Boo!” Reggie shouted as he appeared on the chair next to you, making you sigh and let your head fall back on the couch next to him. Even Luke sighed and moved back to his position before Reggie’s, and now Alex’s appearance.
“Still on the scary act?” you asked Reggie who nodded and before you could say anything else, a new conversation was started and Luke snuck glances at you when you weren’t looking as you did the same to him.
---
“Surprise!” Julie jumped at the sound of your voice as she closed her locker to see you leaning there next to her. You laughed at her startled actions and she glared at you playfully.
“What are you doing here?” she didn’t seem mad you were here, more like surprised.
“Well, it was either spend the day at your school with you or listen to the guys argue over which song they’ll be performing tonight for that gig your dad got at your own house, which by the way prepare for total chaos when you get back.”
Julie rolled her eyes before some kids passed by and said hi to her before she pulled out her phone and pretended that she was on a call, much like she did the first time you visited her school. “I was thinking preforming Great.” Julie spoke into her phone and you nodded, glancing around at the students briefly.
“Yeah, Great is great! That’s what I suggested you do and Luke agreed.”
“Why am I not surprised that Luke agreed to your choice?” Julie’s cocky smile made you cross your arms.
“You know what, I’m going home. I don’t- I don’t need this!” Julie chuckled at your dramatic acting as you threw your arms up and started to turn around before catching a familiar head of blonde hair coming your way. “Nick is coming, I’m staying.” You mumbled before moving to stand next to Julie. She sent you wide eyes out of fear before shoving her phone back into her pocket.
“Hey, Julie!” Nick called out cheerfully and you smirked seeing the smiles the two kids shared.
“I can tell why you like him J, he looks sweet.” You knew the look in Julie’s eyes was one to tell you to shut it before the boy finally stopped in front of her.
“Are you ready for our big performance?”
“Oh, yeah! Yeah, we’re going to do great.” Julie nodded and your jaw dropped.
“Is that today?” Julie nodded again and you got your answer.
“I’m glad you’re confident.” Nick chuckled. “Even after three classes, I still think I got worse.” He let his smile appear again before he gestured to Julie with his shoulder. “It’s a good thing I’ve got my secret weapon.”
“He is so sweet!”
“Shut up.” Julie said sweetly through gritted teeth, most likely secretly wishing you’d poof away, but this was too interesting to pass up watching.
Nick, however, thought she was speaking to him. “Seriously Molina,” Nick went on, “I’m nothing without you.”
“Julie!” you held your breath and pointed at him. “He’s flirting. That’s flirting!”
“Shhh,” she waved her hand at him, bringing it right through you to wave you off before she pushed Nick’s shoulder gently. “You’re going to do fine. I’ll see you in there?”
“Yeah, I’ll be the guy trying not to make us look stupid.” Nick joked before he turned to walk away, and Julie and you watched after him until he was around the corner.
“Julie.” You broke the silence and came face to face with her. Julie sighed and crossed her arms.
“Boundaries.” She told you and you let out a groan.
“But Julie!”
“But Y/N!” Julie copied you and you copied her stance. “I’ll see you after school.” She told you before walking past you and you let your arms drop.
“Yeah, after school!” you shouted at her before muttering under your breath. “We’ll see about that.”
---
“Guys! Please tell me you aren’t still arguing because Julie agreed on playing Great tonight…” you shouted and your words trailed off in confusion as you reappeared in the studio, expecting the argument to still be going on. Instead, Reggie and Alex were both gone, leaving Luke scribbling in his journal as his head picked up at your arrival. “Where are the others?”
“I think Reggie is hanging out with Ray and I think Alex is hanging out with Reggie hanging out with Ray.” Luke told you, pulling the guitar pick out of his mouth and tossing it on his journal as he stood up. “Why? What’s up?”
“How would you like to watch Julie and Nick attempt to flirt with each other while they’re dancing? Keep in mind, Nick can’t dance.”
Luke’s jaw fell open slightly as he looked at you. “Oh, I’d like that very much.” He said before rushing to your side and taking your hand before you both poofed out of the studio and right outside the gym where Julie’s dance class with the addition of Nick’s team were practicing.
You both looked through the windows on the gym doors. “Where’s Julie?” you mumbled under your breath before Luke pointed her out, right where Nick and she were standing and talking, most likely waiting for the teachers to get things started.
Luke looked out of the corner of his eye to you, before letting his eyes flicker down to your still conjoined hands, a fact he wasn’t sure you realized but he wasn’t about to point it out. “Come on.” He said before pulling you through the door.
“Wait, I just wanted to watch! I didn’t want to actually annoy her.” You grabbed Luke’s arm to keep him from walking more in the room but it didn’t matter. “Oh, she saw us.” You whispered and tried to turn to the door but this time it was Luke’s turn to grab your arm.
“We’re already here, Y/N! Might as well enjoy it.” You knew you were screwed when he gave you that smile with his stupid puppy eyes. You rolled your eyes and nodded, letting Luke pull you over to where Julie and Nick were. Julie’s eyes were wide as she silently asked you why you were here.
“I just wanted to watch and I thought he did too, but then he didn’t.” you told her, offering an apologetic smile that was vast in contrast to the proud smile Luke was wearing. “I promise we’ll stay out of the way of your rehearsal.” You glanced over to Luke before contemplating your words again. “I promise I’ll stay out of the way.”
As the teachers started talking, you pulled Luke off to the side, finally realizing you were still holding his hand as you quickly dropped it, refusing to look at him as your cheeks heated up. Luke frowned at the loss of contact, but once the rhythmic music started playing, he had another idea. “Give me your hand again.” He told you and you furrowed your brows.
“What?” Without another word, Luke grabbed your hand himself and pulled you over to the designated dance floor, right next to Julie and Nick who looked to be in their own world and only broken when Julie caught sight of the two of you. “Luke!” You said in protest.
“Come on, Y/N!” he laughed out before he started to spin you, pulling you into his chest and letting you look deep into his eyes. “Dance with me?” You didn’t say anything but as the music became softer in your ears and Luke slowly started singing along to it, with you still held close to him in your arms, you didn’t hesitate to join him in dancing.
Step into my world, Bittersweet love story ‘bout a girl, Shook me to the core, Voice like an angel, I've never heard before,
It started as a gentle sway at first, different than the dance the students were doing, but it soon became more than that. Luke and you lost yourselves in the music and the students around you disappeared. The dance between the two of you was like a routine, something you both knew in your souls and it was perfect together. Then you did the unexpected to the both of you and started singing.
Here in front of me, Shining so much brighter than I have ever seen, Life can be so mean, But when he goes, I know he doesn't leave,
Luke was in shock at your voice, your talent, something he didn’t know was in you but here it was and it was beautiful. The two of you separated in your dances, but your voices sang out together.
The truth is finally breaking through Two worlds collide when I'm with you Our voices rise and soar so high We come to life when we're in perfect harmony
As Luke spun you in the air, seeing the happiness you wore in the air- in his arms- he couldn’t help the warmth spreading from his chest at your voices sounding so perfect together. He knew he wanted to hear it more and as the next verse approached, Luke couldn’t contain his smile and lowered you to your feet, getting to look in your eyes once again.
We say we’re friends, We play pretend, You’re more to me, We create perfect harmony
As the song finished, Luke and you were back to the slow dancing sway you were doing at the beginning of the song and you would’ve thought this whole thing, that whole dance was in your head, if not for Luke’s next words.
“I don’t know you could sing like that.” He whispered, keeping the soft bubble between the two of you. You were still in his arms as you let your head drop and nod.
“Yeah.” You breathed out, your brow twitching down as you tried to figure out what to say.
“Why didn’t I?” he wasn’t trying to upset you or overstep, but a part of him felt bad that he didn’t know.
You shrugged, finally meeting his eyes again. “No one really did. Just Julie cause she walked in on me playing the piano and singing one day.”
“You play the piano too?” Luke’s words were a little too excited as you rolled your eyes and shot him a look, your brows raising. Luke put his hands in the air in surrender and it wasn’t until the action was done before he realized that he had let go of you. He quickly returned his hands to where they were placed on your hips and you tried to control the racing of your heart not only at the action but at how close Luke and you were for so long.
“Don’t tell Reg or Alex?”
Luke scoffed. “Why? Can you imagine their reaction to finding out you had been hiding a voice like that this whole time?”
“Yeah, I can.” You told him, nodding slowly and hoping he’d understand. “Reg would be madder than that time I borrowed his leather jacket and lost it at the beach for a few days before I bought my own.”
“Mad?” Luke shouted louder than he meant and you looked around as if anyone could hear you. Luke moved his hand up and cupped the bottom of your jaw to get you to look back at him. When you did look at him, you’re positive Luke could feel the warmth that crept up your neck at his touch but he didn’t mention it. “Reggie will be a lot of things. Amazed, happy, excited, in awe, possibly slightly jealous,” Luke got a laugh to bubble out of you at that one, “but he won’t be mad at you for not telling him all this time.” You couldn’t say anything to him, the smile on your face was so big that any time you opened your mouth, it just got bigger. “Come on,” Luke let his hand fall off your jaw and hip and you let your hands fall off his shoulders as he grabbed one of them and thread your fingers together. “We should get back.” You opened your mouth to ask him again to keep it a secret but he nodded, already knowing what you were going to ask.
“You go, I uh, I have to talk to Julie really quick.” You squeezed his hand and Luke’s smile fell a little before he squeezed your hand and disappeared.
The moment he did, you let yourself collapse on the ground with a groan.
In truth, you didn’t have to talk to Julie. You just needed a moment to process whatever that was. Luke knew your secret now and you knew you could trust him, but you were still hung up on that dance. Neither of you went into that gym thinking that it was going to happen, but you don’t regret it and hopefully neither did Luke.
But now, you just weren’t sure if you could face him after that.
---
The guys were rehearsing for the performance tonight, but with the way Alex was taking his anger out on his drums, it was sounding less and less like the song. Soon, Reggie and Luke’s instruments had stopped and all that was left was Alex playing- banging on his drums.
“Alex, you all right?” Luke asked after Alex was finally done playing.
“Yeah, yeah. Yeah, why?” Alex lied. He was still hung up on Willie and their talk this morning, one where Willie told him they never should’ve met. It hurt Alex and it wasn’t something he was going to get over.
Luke and Reggie exchanged a look of hesitation before Reggie spoke. “I know it’s tough, man. People say you never forget your first ghost. Maybe that’s true, but I’m sure there will be others.”
Alex just blinked at Reggie before sighing quietly. “Yeah, thanks Reg.”
“And Alex,” Luke jumped in to try and save this attempt at cheering him up. “You’re a great drummer and a great guy, OK? I wouldn’t let all that stuff get in between you and what you love.”
“I don’t know, man.” Reggie butted in with a plan in mind. “Sometimes a little fire can make things better on stage.” Alex and Luke looked at him in confusion as Reggie pointed to Luke. “Like you and Julie.”
Luke who was leaning on Alex’s drum set, pushed himself up, letting his brows furrow in major confusion. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He asked and when he glanced from Reggie to Alex, Reggie turned to Alex as well and winked mischievously at him. Alex caught the wink, but not the meaning as he sat back and tried his best to play along as Reggie kept going.
“Come on. Everyone can see the way you look at her when you sing.”  Again, Luke was confused. He never saw himself having chemistry with Julie on stage. Whenever he was on stage, his eyes were always on you in the audience and only on Julie when they were singing together. Could that be what Reggie was talking about? “You guys ooze chemistry.”
Alex was finally thinking he was catching on as he joined in. “You should never say “ooze” again, but yeah, I agree.”
“I don’t have chemistry with Julie, guys, okay?” Luke let out a laugh under his breath at the idea, still confused about what they were talking about.
“Really, you don’t see it?” Alex asked and Luke shook his head to push his point.
“What about you and Y/N?” Reggie blurted out and crossed his arms, happy his plan was leading right where he wanted. Alex sighed in relief that he figured it out and Luke’s face just contorted in annoyance.
“Not this again, Reggie.”
“You’re telling me that there’s no chemistry between you and my sister?”
“I don’t- I just-“ Luke stuttered out, knowing his stutter was only going to incriminate him more. Both of the other boys shared a look of accomplishment.
“Just imagine the chemistry the two of you would have if Y/N could sing or play an instrument.” Reggie commented and Luke bit his tongue. He did know how much chemistry there was between you both when you sang, he knew it and he wanted to experience it again. But he promised he wouldn’t tell them.
“Okay, I have chemistry with everyone that I sing with.” Luke defended himself, clutching his guitar strap tightly before an idea sprung into his head. “Seriously! Watch this.” He turned to your brother and started singing as he walked closer.
“I believe, I believe that we’re just one dream away from who we’re meant to be, that we’re standing on the edge of…” Luke placed his hand on Reggie’s neck and immediately his first thought was how just a few hours ago he was in this same position with you, “…great”
“Wow.” Alex whispered mockingly at the two, “I see chemistry.”
Reggie had a blush on his face as he stared at Luke. “That was pretty hot.” Luke pulled his hand off of Reggie’s neck and kissed his two fingers before pressing them to Reggie’s lips.
A clearing of a throat ripped the three’s attention away from each other and over to where you had just appeared in the middle of Luke’s singing. All of their eyes widened at your appearance. “Am I interrupting something?” you bit back your entertained smile, really trying to understand what was happening here, but you came up with nothing.
“Nope!” Reggie said quickly and you raised your brow at your brother, no longer doing anything to hide your smile. He noticed and quickly tried to recover. “Girls, am I right?”
You laughed softly as Luke muttered a yeah and sent a look your way to see you holding a hand up to your mouth to cover your laughter.
“No.” Alex said and your laughter only worsened as you ducked away, heading to the couch.
“You guys are idiots.” You joked before you fell onto the couch, putting your feet up.
You heard footsteps heading your way and with a quick glance, you saw it was Luke and quickly averted your gaze. Luke’s steps slowed briefly at that action, but he sat down in the chair next to you. “So,” he began, hoping you’d look at him, but you remained looking at the ceiling, “What did you have to talk to Julie about?”
“Oh, it was nothing.” You lied, hoping he wasn’t going to press it. You tried to look at him, but you couldn’t help but think about the dance again and you wondered how he couldn’t. That’s when you jumped to the conclusion that Luke wasn’t thinking about the dance because he didn’t feel the same way toward you as you did.
“Are you okay?” Luke asked and you nodded, closing your eyes in hopes it would play off the fact you wouldn’t look at him.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” You falsely assured him.
Luke wanted to ask you more, to make sure you were really okay, but after what already happened today, he didn’t want to push you. Instead, he stood up and reached over for your hand for a quick squeeze before focusing back on the band.
---
You’d been ignoring Luke all afternoon and unfortunately, the boys had caught on as Luke had been giving you his puppy dog eyes that always went unnoticed by you. No one knew why you were ignoring Luke. The guys all thought you overheard their conversation before you “interrupted” them. When you were gone, they all tried to think about anything you could’ve heard that would be bad, but they couldn’t think of anything that would warrant you ignoring only Luke.
Luke was pacing back and forth in the studio before the performance, ignoring all the looks Alex and Reggie threw his way as Julie came inside.
“Hey, you guys ready?” She told them, bouncing on her and tugging on her shirt. Reggie and Alex both nodded and stood up but Luke instead moved to the garage door.
“Is Y/N coming inside?” He asked as he tried to find a glimpse of you outside but it was no luck.
Julie watched him confused, as she didn’t know you were ignoring him. “Um, I don’t know?” Luke’s shoulders deflated. “Okay, what’s wrong?”
Luke didn’t answer her.
“He’s just mad because my sister is ignoring him.”
Julie furrowed her brows and crossed her arms. “Y/N’s ignoring you? Why?” Her hands fell to her hips. “Luke, what did you do?”
“Nothing!” he defended himself, looking back out the window to see you standing next to Ray at the camera and glancing around the crowd. “I thought things were good between us after…” His words trailed off, but Julie didn’t need him to finish as she was there for the dance, she got to experience the chemistry between you two first hand.
She put her hand on his shoulder, getting her to look away. “I’m sure she’ll come around, okay?” Luke reluctantly nodded and grabbed his guitar.
There were a lot more people at the Molina residence than you were used to, but standing in the back on top of the rocks allowed you to get a great view of the makeshift stage. When Flynn came out and introduced the band, you clapped loud despite no one in the crowd being able to hear. The band could hear and that’s all that matters.
The studio doors were opened and Julie walked out in her butterfly shirt before sliding into the seat of the piano. “Thanks for coming everyone.” She spoke into the microphone. Her eyes found yours briefly and you gave her two thumbs up, knowing she had this.
The music slowly started and Julie’s voice could be heard sounding as beautiful as it always did. You held your breath and waited until finally, your boys appeared. You cheered as they did, seeing your brother shoot you a smile and you watched him perform for a few moments before looking to Alex, seeing his smile as he drummed away he met your eye and you gave him a thumbs up this time, seeing him nod his head to you to show he sees you. You let your eyes flicker to Luke for a moment and he was already looking at you, but you couldn’t hold his gaze.
Instead, you looked back to Julie, watching as she owned her performance. As you were doing so though, you missed the looks the boys were sending each other and the way Luke tried to mask his sadness, especially when it was his turn to sing. It was hard not to watch him sing, you always did it, but you still couldn’t stop thinking about the dance and every look was just a reminder.
You let out a shaky breath when Luke was finished and finally let yourself look at him, only to see his back turned to you as he played to Alex momentarily. You tried to get out of your head and clap your hands while you enjoyed the blend of Luke and Julie’s voice, knowing this is one amazing performance. You were relaxed again, your thoughts starting to calm as you began mouthing along to the song, knowing Julie’s solo was up next.
What you didn’t expect was Luke to join her with a guitar solo. It looks like Julie wasn’t expecting it either, but when she glanced back at Luke and saw his eyes locked on you, she knew what he was trying to do. You didn’t have a choice but to look at Luke and the moment you did, you couldn’t stop the way your smile was directed at him, and only him when Luke and you held eye contact for the longest time since this afternoon.
The eye contact between you two only broke at the end of the song when Reggie and Alex disappeared and he moved to the piano to sing with Julie. His smile still left on his face from looking at you and after they sang the last line, right before he disappeared, he smiled at you again.
---
After the concert, the guys and you were in the driveway shooting a basketball. Their concert high was slowly coming down and you didn’t mind helping them relax.
“You guys were seriously amazing tonight.” You told them before shooting the ball and getting it in the basket. As soon as it did, an arm was thrown around your shoulder and you smirked before turning to look into Luke’s eyes.
“You say that every time.” Luke told you and you rolled your eyes.
“Maybe cause I mean it every time?” you joked and grabbed his arm, keeping it around your shoulder. Reggie, who was about to pass Luke the ball, raised his brows when he caught you and Luke acting even more cuddly than normal.
“I’m glad you two worked things out because I could not handle another day of sad puppy Luke.” Reggie told you guys before he shot a basket, catching the ball and passing it to Alex.
“Yeah, what even happened between you two?” Alex questioned and you tensed.
Luke looked down at you, hoping for an answer himself.
“You know what, that’s not important.” You told them, giggling nervously as Alex took his shot at a basket. Luke had to remove his arm from around your shoulder to shoot as well. “What is important is you guys did actually kill it tonight, according to most if not all of the audience members that I overheard.”
“Perks of being a ghost.” Alex pointed at you and you pointed back in agreement.
“Feels like we should be celebrating or something.” Reggie commented and the three of you felt the same. “What do you guys wanna do?”
At the end of Reggie’s sentence, the boys doubled over in pain, another one of their jolts of pain hitting them hard. You reached out as soon as Luke started to go down and he clutched onto you, barely keeping himself on his feet.
“Not that.” Alex groaned out as the three of them got up.
Luke and you were still holding onto each other as you looked over to Alex and Reggie, making sure they were okay. “That wasn’t like the other ones. It’s getting worse.” Luke said and your worry started to come back.
“Why is this happening to you guys?” you asked quietly, letting go of Luke and moving to your brother who looked to be in so much pain he couldn’t stand up.
“It’s because you guys are in serious trouble.” You all looked up as Willie walked over, holding himself tightly.
“Willie?” Alex stepped forward, not having expected Willie to have shown up.
“We need to talk.” He said and wanting, more like needing more information, the four of you followed him.
Willie took you to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and told you four everything, from bringing the boys to the club to Caleb’s offer to the truth behind Caleb’s stamp. It turns out the boys didn’t tell you everything about that night. You didn’t even know they got an offer to join Caleb’s little ghost band.
“Caleb’s threatened by you. He wants you under his control.” Willie reiterated for what you believed to be the millionth time, but the realization wasn’t sticking. “You’re the only ghosts that can be visible to lifers without his help.”
“And you let him do this to us?” Alex felt betrayed. He knew he didn’t know Willie for long, but he trusted him. He didn’t think Willie would do that to him and his friends.
“I can’t stop him. He owns my soul. He owns everybody’s soul at that club.” Willie paused and you saw the same level of fear that was on Willie’s face when you first met him and Caleb. “If he even knew I was talking to you, he would destroy you.”
“So, if we don’t join this club, the weird power outage thing continues until there’s no power left at all?” Reggie’s question made you gasp softly. No power? They would… die? “What exactly happens when the power goes out?”
Willie hesitated again. “That’s… That’s it. You’re done.”
You bit your lip, thankful you were standing behind the rest of the guys as you looked away from them, trying not to cry, and thankfully no tears fell yet.
“Uh-huh. And what exactly do you mean by “we’re done”?”
“You just- You don’t exist anymore. Not anywhere.”
The boys were mad with disbelief and Luke wasn’t holding back. “So, we have no choice? We have to give up everything we’ve built together and work for Caleb? We have to say goodbye to Julie? Say goodbye to-“ Luke cut himself, glancing at Reggie and Alex and they caught on to what he was going to say as the three of them turned around to look at you. Your eyes were downcast and closed as you didn’t have enough strength to meet any of their eyes. You finally felt their eyes off of you as they turned back to Willie. “That’s some club you guys got going on.”
The boys started to step away from Willie before he reached out. “But there is another option. That’s why I’m here. Just please hear me out.” The boys stayed silent and Willie took that as his go-ahead. “If you guys could figure out what your unfinished business is, you do it in time, you could cross over and be free from all of this.”
“Okay, so what’s our unfinished business?”
Willie shook his head. “I don’t know, but since you all died at the same time, it might be something you need to do together.”
“Why should we listen to a word you say?” Alex spoke up and you looked up, seeing the sadness on Willie’s face and you knew you could trust him, whether the boys wanted to or not.
“Because I care about you, Alex.” He held back tears. “And I hate that I brought you and your friends into this mess.” You all focused on Alex, knowing he was trying to remain unbothered by Willie’s confession. “I can’t be away for much longer.” Willie said before his eyes met Alex’s. “I’m so sorry. For everything.” The four of you watched him disappear.
When Willie was gone, you turned away, wanting to be far from the boys and far from letting your feelings out but Luke grabbed your arm before you could get far enough. “Y/N wait!”
“You lied to me!” you yelled out as the tears started to fall. “You all lied to me!”
“Y/N just hear us out!” Reggie tried to explain but you scoffed at him.
“Were you ever going to tell me Caleb offered you a spot to join his band? I-I thought it was something you could just go and play at, but this?” You took a deep breath, looking out into the lights of the city. “You lied to me and now I’m gonna lose you all, aren’t I?”
“No.” Reggie shook his head, reaching forward and pulling you into a hug. You just stood there, feeling Reggie hold you as you cried into his shoulder. “We’re not going anywhere, okay? We’re going to figure this out.” He pulled away, looking in your eyes and wiping away the tears that fell. “Okay?” he asked and you nodded, not feeling better, but wanting to trust your brother.
“This is all my fault.” Alex mumbled and Reggie turned around as you all looked at him.
“No, it’s not Alex, don’t say that.” You assured him, reaching out and squeezing his arm.
“I met Willie, Willie introduced us to Caleb and now- now we’re screwed.” His head hung in shame.
“We all wanted to go and see Caleb.” Luke comforted him, reminding Alex that it was on all of them.
“How are you guys going to tell Julie?” You whispered, leaning onto Reggie’s shoulder and meeting Luke’s eyes.
He thought for a second before shaking his head. “We can’t. This just means more loss in her life. If we don’t want Caleb to own our souls then we have to figure out what our unfinished business is.”
“Yeah? And how are we going to do that?” Alex couldn’t see this ending any way but badly, and truth be told, neither could you. “There was so much we wanted to do.”
You pulled your head off Reggie’s shoulder and wiped your tears, wanting to help any way you could, even if it meant losing your boys. Turns out you were more help than you thought you’d be because as you looked up, you caught sight of The Orpheum sign over Alex’s shoulder and when Luke looked to you, he saw you staring and realized what you were thinking as he grabbed your hand, neither of you looking away from the sign.
“But the night we died, there was only one thing we all wanted to do together.” Luke said and your brother and Alex were confused as Luke and you shared a look with each other. When your eyes landed back on the sign, Alex and Reggie looked too.
“Playing the Orpheum?”
“Getting that gig was literally impossible. Even after people knew who we were, we had to hustle and Y/N had to call in every favor she had.” Alex reminded them, knowing how long it took you as the band’s “honorary manager” at the time to book them. “It took us years.”
The three jolted again and you held onto Luke and Alex as you stood in between them, looking over to Reggie to once again make sure he was fine as they all groaned and coughed. “Yeah, I don’t think you guys have years.”
Time to work some magic.

We’re Sorry
Luke!sister reader x Reggie
I am legit the biggest fan of the luke!sister x reggie trooop so... Also this is kinda the plot for the next Malia episode so watch out for that. Legit when I saw this I was so excited to write it!!! There wasn’t a specific song mentioned here but as soon as I read this prompt the song Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj popped in my head so I decided to roll with it. Anyway stay safe ya’ll and I hope you enjoy! - Requested by @xyacelisx (I just realized I lost the actual ask which sucks but thats okay)
PS for the song - Y/N is Jessie J, Julie is Ariana Grande because their range is beautiful and Flynn is Nicki Minaj because her wrap in I Got The Music was amazing
We stood on the stage as the entire school flooded out to head to Carrie’s house.
“Great, just great...” Julie sits at the edge of the stage, feet dangling off.
“At least the new kid is still here,” Flynn says, pointing to the new kid dancing with another kid.
“C’mon Julie,” I say, trying to pull her up, “Two people is still an audience, you can still perform.”
“What’s the point? Everybody wanted to see Julie and the Phantoms... not just Julie.”
“If they don’t wanna respect you and be for there for you... girl you don’t need them,” I say walking towards the dj table and clicking a song, “You got us”
Music starts playing
Both girls turn to look at me as I shrug my shoulders, “Hey this was our anthem like five years ago,” I grab a mic off the table and switch it on.
Sure she got a body like an hourglass
But I can give it to you all the time
Sure she got a booty like a Cadillac
But I can send you into overdrive (oh)
Flynn joins me on stage,
You've been waiting for that
Step on up, swing your bat
I walk up to Julie and hand her mic to her,
You see anybody could be bad to you
You need a good girl to blow your mind, yeah
Bang bang into the room (I know you want it)
Bang bang all over you (I'll let you have it)
Wait a minute let me take you there (ah)
Wait a minute 'til you (ah, hey!)
Bang bang there goes your heart (I know you want it)
Back, back seat of my car (I'll let you have it)
Wait a minute let me take you there (ah)
Wait a minute 'til you (ah, hey!)
Julie takes over as the boys pop out onto the dance floor,
She might've let you hold her hand at school
But I'mma show you how to graduate
“Guess who just showed up?” I told Flynn. She just rolls her eyes at me, “You guys don’t deserve someone who shows up three hours late”
No, I don't need to hear you talk the talk
Just come and show me what your momma gave (oh yeah)
I heard you've gotta big baby, mouth but don't say a thing
See anybody could be good to you
You need a bad girl to blow your mind
Julie walks back to us, and we start jumping around stage
Bang bang into the room (I know you want it)
Bang bang all over you (I'll let you have it)
Wait a minute let me take you there (ah)
Wait a minute 'til you (ah, hey!)
Bang bang there goes your heart (I know you want it)
Back, back seat of my car (I'll let you have it)
Wait a minute let me take you there (ah)
Wait a minute 'til you (ah, hey!)
“FLYNN DROP THOSE BEATS”
(You know what, girls? let me show you how to do it)
She flips her hair and starts rocking out, Julie and I hyping her
It's Myx Moscato
It's frizz in a bottle
It's Nicki full throttle, it's oh, oh
Swimming in the grotto
We winning in the lotto
We dipping in the powder blue, four door
Kitten so good
It's dripping on wood
Get a ride in the engine that could
Go, Batman, robbin' it
Bang bang, cockin' it
Queen Nicki dominant, prominent
It's me, Julie, and Y/N
We all smile looking at each other; Flynn continues spitting bars
If they test me, they sorry
Ride his uh like a Harley
Then pull off in his Ferrari
If he hanging we banging
Phone ringing, he slanging
It ain't karaoke night but get the mic 'cause I'm singing
B to the A to the N to the G to the uh
B to the A to the N to the G to the hey
I walk to the front of the stage, belting out
See anybody could be good to you
You need a bad girl to blow your mind (your mind) (okay)
“YES Y/N” I can see Reggies mouth gape a little
I walk back to them, we jump around, dancing and singing;
Bang bang into the room (I know you want it)
Bang bang all over you (I'll let you have it)
Yo, I said bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang
Bang bang there goes your heart (I know you want it)
Back, back seat of my car (I'll let you have it)
Wait a minute let me take you there (ah)
Wait a minute 'til you (ah, hey!)
I bring the girls in for a hug, “I love you guys.”
“That was amazing!” I hear Luke say, looking at us.
I was too mad to even think about listening to them right now. “I’m going to get some Ice cream for us,” I say walking away.
I head towards the cafeteria, letting out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. I can’t believe they had the nerve to show up after not coming on time. They literally promised Julie they wouldn’t be late. I try pulling open the doors to the kitchen, only to realize that I had left the keys in the gym. Letting out a yell of frustration, I slide down the door, sitting on the floor with my head in my hands.
“Y/n!”
I look up to see Luke and Reggie staring back at me.
“What do you guys want?”
“You have such a pretty voice,” Reggie says, smiling at me with a look of adoration on his face.
“Thank you,” I whisper, looking down. Right now, compliments weren’t going to save them.
“Are you okay?” Luke asked, crouching down in front of me.
“Am I okay? Do I look okay to you guys? Also you should be asking Julie that. You guys left her dying today. You abandoned her today... and when you do that to my best friend you do it to me. You guys broke the biggest promise you made to her,” I glare at them.
“We’re sorry about that. We just got... carried away.” Reggie tries, also taking a seat in front of me.
I let out a huff, “Sorry is not going to cut it guys. You really hurt Julie and I today.”
“We had a good reason...” Luke tries.
“No you didn’t,” I interrupt him, “I understand why you wanted revenge on Bobby. I do. He betrayed me to by not telling me about the songs... about you. But you could have done that another time. Today was supposed to be about Julie and the Phantoms, the start of something new. That’s not going to work until you guys can understand that the best way to get revenge is by becoming something better without him.”
“You’re right Y/n, and we’re sorry we didn’t realize that before,” Luke says.
“Please forgive us Y/n... we’re really sorry,” Reggie starts.
“And if you won’t forgive us...” Luke says with a little smirk, “We’re going to follow you everywhere and sing ‘We’re sorry’ to you until you forgive us.”
I give them a confused look. I had no idea what we’re sorry was, “I have no idea  what that is?”
They both look at each other before standing up and clearing their throats. Suddenly, they start harmonizing and sing the words, ‘We’re sorry’, over and over again.
I let that go on for a minute before I start getting annoyed, “Okay OKAY stop... please.”
“Please forgive us,” Luke asks, with his puppy eyes 🥺
“Yeah Y/n...” Reggie says, pulling out his best pout and puppy eyes, “Pleasse forgive us.”
I continue to glare at them, even though my heart was telling me to just forgive them.
“Fine then,” Luke says, holding his hands out and his guitar appears out of nowhere.
He starts strumming it before the two boys start singing, ‘We’re Sorry’ again. Over and over and over and over and over and...
I look between the two of them, “Okay please stop...” I plead standing up, “You guys are... ugh.”
They turn to face each other before looking back at me.
“So you forgive us?” Luke says, smiling.
“Only if you guys profusely apologize to Julie for hurting her and making it up to her somehow, and...” I turn to face Reggie, “If Reggie comes over tonight and sings me his country song.”
“Okay never mind, you don’t need to forgive us,” Luke says, tugging Reggie away.
“C’mon man!” Reggie says, “That songs all yours Y/n!” He gives me a little wink.
“No! Stop flirting!” Luke stays, trying to physically block us from each other. “And you!” He turns towards Reggie, “Stop hitting on my sister!”
“Sorry, she’s too pretty,” He sends me a smirk, making me blush.
“Reggie!” He goes to hit him but Reggie flashes away, saying, “See you later babe.”
I blush as Luke turns towards me, “No! No Reggie.”
“Yes Reggie,” I smirk walking back towards the gym.
“No Y/n! Come back... please... y/n!”
I just continue to walk away laughing, “Sorry big brother. You should have been on time.”

 _______
Losing a child is the worst thing a parent could live, losing two is unimaginable. It’s seems being 17 years old was a new malediction in Peters family.
You were 3 when your older brother, Reginald, died in a weird hot dog accident. At that point, your parents were literally a fight away from a divorce but never did it because of you. You were too young to be in a divided family, according to them. But Reggie's death separated them for good. Yet they really tried to support each other, to overcome that and give you all the attention you needed. But your mother overprotected you and made you live in the shadow of your late brother. Your dad couldn't stand it. And when they finally divorce, moving out from reggie’s childhood house, you went to live with your dad.
Even though you were too young to form a strong bond with your brother, in a way you missed him. Your mother’s house was full of pictures of him, some of his clothes were still in a room, dedicated to him. When you visited your mother, you didn’t understand why you always found yourself in this room. You were drawn like a magnet to the comforting room. Reggie’s presence in this new house brought you such a sense of security that your mother had repeatedly found you asleep on a pile of your brother’s T-shirts.
And then you died in 2009. Kanye West had interrupted Taylor Swift's speech at the VMAs, Miley Cyrus hadn't gone crazy yet and One Direction didn't exist yet. What an era! You didn't know why the great light didn't come looking for you but you were there, as a ghost in 2009. And the time has passed ... You've had your best concerts, the best parties. A forever teenager who couldn't eat, drink or sleep.
 And then 2020 came.
 …
You were tired of always doing the same thing for over a decade, but you couldn't help but go to every open scene that came up in your beautiful city. It was as if an inexplicable force was pushing you to go there.
This evening was no exception to the rule and you were in a very hip little bar in the city center. You wore one of those sleeveless, gray crop tops with high waisted pants, your leather jacket draped over your shoulders. Your eyes were directly drawn to a group of girls in colorful costumes. You couldn't help but roll your eyes. It's been 10 years since you died and it seemed to you that these girls looked like the same plagues that ruined the lives of so many teenagers in your time. You put on an expression of disgust when they all took the stage, but when the music started you couldn't help but admit it was pretty catchy. However, you didn't expect a ghost to appear in the middle of the stage, improvising a choreography. Was that part of the show?
But looking at the audience's non-reaction, you knew it wasn't. The ghost disappeared for the first time, and your gaze sought directly the distinctive light source of another apparition in the room. Your gaze lingered on a small group of three boys - the blond boy included - and two girls. You have wrinkled your eyes to better distinguish the teenagers, and your face expressed confusion.
 “Reggie? “
You wanted to go see him so badly. You were pretty sure it was your brother but it all came too fast. The moment you decided to walk towards them, the organizer announced a new band.
“Okay, looks like we're close the night out with one more group…Julie and the fat ones.”
What was that for a name? Your attention had been diverted and when you looked back at the group, the boys had disappeared as one of the young girls took the stage. Your heart was beating so fast. You couldn't go wrong; you had seen so many pictures at your mother's house that it was impossible that this boy was not your brother. But you missed your chance…
Julie started to sing and your eyes were captivated, as much as your ears were. This kid was so talented! When she sang a rather high note, the tension in the room charged into electricity. The next second, the young singer was joined by the group of boys you had seen in her company. Appearing distinctly as the ghosts did. On drums there was the blond boy you had seen dancing a few moments earlier, on the electric guitar, a boy with tousled brown hair who seemed slightly familiar to you ... and on bass, with a flannel shirt, there was your brother ... Reggie was there, identical to the photos you had admired so much.
The bar was on fire as Julie and The Phantoms performed. What a sick name for a group made up of two-thirds of ghosts! The song was so catchy that your heart beat to the sound of the music. But your eyes did not leave your brother, you were unable to move, frozen in place. What should you do ? Will you introduce yourself after the performance? And, what would you say? "Hey hi Reggie, I'm your sister, I died ten years ago and you twenty-five years ago. Unbelievable, right?! Nice to see you again" And once again, before you knew it, the song was over and the boys were gone again, leaving Julie alone on stage in the bewilderment of the many people in the facility.
“for God's sake, where are they?”
You didn't want to miss it anymore. Even though the whole situation was strange, you wanted to see your brother again.
Your eyes flew over the room before seeing the scene play out before your eyes. Julie seemed petrified in front of a man. The boys watched in amazement and as Julie left with what appeared to be her father, you rushed over to the group of three musicians before they disappeared again.
“omg please don't poof out again.” You said almost out of breath
The boys looked at you like you were crazy before the guitarist jumped off the bar counter, bursting with energy.
 "Wait, you can see us?"
“as much as when mister "all eyes on me" made his performance”, you were pointing your head at the blond boy.
The group looked at each other in puzzlement and Reggie finally spoke, his blue eyes full of mischief.
“So…hi there cutie, how can we help you?”
Your face expressed disgust and you stuck your tongue out mimicking vomiting.
Luke gave Alex an amused smile, seeing Reggie flirting and your spontaneous reaction. The bassist couldn't help but charm the pretty ladies.
“Wow Reggie, that's gross ... you're my brother.”
Reggie burst out laughing at your response, not noticing that you called him by his first name when he hadn't even introduced himself to you yet.
“Yeah right, for sure. You just could tell me you weren’t interested. But I’m charming...”
It was the first time he had been given such an excuse but you looked so serious that he stopped dead in his tracks as Luke and Alex watched you. They always knew Reggie had a sister. But the scene unfolding before their eyes seemed impossible. (Y / N) was so young when they died and now must have been around 28, something like that. But the girl in front of them was a teenager, their age. How was this possible?
You didn't want to drop the information like that. It was worse than anything you could have imagined. But it had escaped you. Now he didn't take you seriously. Your eyes were wet with tears. It was scary to find you in front of your brother for the first time as a ghost teenager. Luke looked panicked when he noticed your eyes, squeezing Reggie's shoulder as you seemed to beg.
“Can I ... can I meet you in a quieter time please, Reginald?”
Your brother's eyes widened as Luke's hug on his shoulder tightened a bit. The eagerness and desperation in your voice had made both boys react, Alex was just looking at all of you like all of this wasn't real. The use of Reggie's name made him tense, surprised. Few called him Reginald. In fact, only his family, and the boys when they wanted to annoy him, called him that way. And although his nickname is obvious enough to deduce his
full first name, he deeply felt that you weren't just anyone.
He seemed a little panicked and looked around for his friends to support him. As if the solution would fall by itself just by the presence of Luke and Alex.
“Okay, but I want Luke and Alex’s there! What about tomorrow? I’ll give you the address!”
 Wow, that was quick.
“hm, yeah, yeah sure, as you want”
You nodded and Reggie silently slipped a note to the drummer. Alex took a pen, write something on a paper towel and gave it to you. You weren’t surprise, you also can make some tricks. And you just had the time to thanks them before they poofted again.
 …
The next day, you landed in front of Julie's garage. Lucky she's at school because you shouldn't be explaining your presence, so she managed to see you the way she saw boys.
Before entering, you peeked out the window and frowned. There seemed to be only Luke so far. He was leaning over the piano, his head in a notebook. Your body went through part of the garage door and you cleared your throat.
“hmm, hi ... i came to see Reggie ..”
Luke instantly raised his head and you caught his attention.
“oh uh, hi! He should be here soon, come in.….”
Silence felt as Luke motioned for you to sit on the couch. It was a rather pleasant studio; the plants gave a warm atmosphere to the room and the music set sent you good vibes.
"Does your girlfriend mind that I'm here? I mean, that seems to be your HQ"
 "girlfriend?"
"The girl you sing with" I simply said.
"Julie? Um, yeah, she's not my girlfriend. She-sh-she’s great and we have this powerful connection but…not, not in a romantic way. Music tied us. Music and friendship "
Luke chuckled lightly as he scratched his head. You were surprised they weren't dating. Yesterday the tension was intense. He seemed authentic when he had continued his momentum. You let out a smile amused by so much overflow.
“It's okay, I don't need to know your full relationship statute or your social security number.”
The guitarist gave you a frank smile, his eyes twinkling with amusement. For a ghost, his gaze was really alive.
“ I’m Luke, by the way”
 "Y / N… Re .."
 "Reggie's little sister… I-I remember you a little."
"You look familiar to me. Maybe I saw you in a few pictures with Reggie."
Silence fell and you started to feel anxious. Maybe it was a bad idea? You had grown up since Reggie died ... were you still his little sister after all? Luke seemed to notice your dismay and put a comforting hand on your knee.
 “hey, is something bothering you?”
“What if he doesn't believe me ... if he definitely thinks I'm not his sister.”
“Let's be honest, it's a little hard to believe. The last time I saw you, you were three years old.”
It was as if the memories flooded into your mind and let you carried away in your words.
“Yeah, you gave me this teddy bear with a guitar and told Reggie you wanted to be my favorite.”
Luke chuckled slightly before staring at you, speechless. He seemed dazed. This anecdote dates back to twenty-five years anyway. He himself had a hard time remembering it until you said it a few seconds earlier.
“what was the smell of the stuffed animal?” he asked, confused about that funny fact
 “sorry, what?”
“the plush, what did it smell like?”
 “hot waffle, why?”
“okay ... maybe you are his sister ... tell me more about what you remember”
You looked at him with a puzzled expression. Everything had been so natural before he stopped in all the movements. And now, it was hard to think about for the memories you had of Reggie on demand. The teddy bear given by Luke story had slipped out of your mind without you realizing it. As your brain seemed to boil, the fog of your thoughts cleared.
 “can I use your guitar?”
“hell no ... why?” Luke exclaimed with far too much anticipation
“I have this lullaby stuck inside of my head ... I think Reggie sang it to me when I was a child”
Your pleading and desperate gaze fell on Luke who categorically refused to let you take his guitar. He ends up grabbing his six acoustic strings, terminated. There was something about you that made him weak.
“Maybe you can teach me but ... my guitar is my guitar, nobody touches it.”
You nodded and the lead singer moved closer to you. You were stunned by its smell, like a distant memory. Luke had definitely been a part of your life before he died, you were sure of that. You leaned over her shoulder, humming the lullaby that was left in your head. It didn't take long for him to find the right chords. Luke continued several times before you stopped singing, looking at him intently.
“that's exactly it ... this lullaby”
You both looked at each other, an indecipherable expression in your eyes. You both jumped at the sound of the garage door. Reggie appeared with Alex.
"Ready to compose hellish songs! oh did I interrupt something?”
"No, no I was there to see you. I guess you have a lot of questions."
"hell yeah, can we start from the beginning?"
You smiled to approve his request. The boys settled down on the sofa, while you sat down on one of the single armchairs. And the flow of questions began
  “When are you born?”
“(your birthday date) 1992” you simply answered.
 “What’s your name?”
 (y/n) (y/m/n) Peters
It’s seemed to convinced a little Reggie but doubt was all over his face.  It was information you could easily get on the internet nowadays.
 “What’s my favorite food?”
“Pizza, mom said your favorite was the extra cheese with pepperoni”
“And what was my favorite toy?”
“I freaking don’t know, how can I suppose to known that?”
“ah ah!” he pointed the finger at you, as if that answer was proof that you were lying. It broke your heart but you didn't show it.
Instead, you rolled your eyes and Reggie kept going to ask you some question. Of course, you would have liked to have answered his questions correctly. Your mother told you some anecdotes about him but not to the point of knowing all the details.
“What’s the most terrible thing I said to my mom?”
 “Omg I don’t fucking know! I was 3 when you’re died, asshole!”
Luke smiled when you exploded. Reggie was Reggie, as weird as possible. Now you were angry and desperate. Your brother didn’t believe you and he kept dragging you into this miserable feeling that you were never going to get your brother back. You had spent your short life living with a faint memory of him. Your blankie was one of his t-shirts, his voice reasoned in your head when you couldn’t sleep.
But then, in front of him, you were a stranger to him. Your heart was bruised from not being able to hug him and to finally meet this brother who had left far too soon.
“Okay, okay… So, how can you proof me you’re really my sister?! “
In the room’s corner, Luke looked at you, you looked desperate, about to cry again. He grabbed his guitar and cleared his throat. Reggie turned to him as the guitarist still had his eyes on you, a heartwarming smile hanging across his face. You had managed to convince him in a few minutes. He felt connected to you and the things you told him were disturbing. You could only be Reggie's sister; it was impossible otherwise.
"Hey…What about the song you told me earlier." he said with a soft and comfort voice
Your eyes caught his gaze, grateful for the initiative. You nodded and Luke started playing the few notes you had taught him a few minutes earlier. It was so different from all the songs the brunette could play before. It was a lullaby, such easy children's music with just a few notes.   Of course, the band wasn’t supposed to play when Julie wasn’t in the room but, Luke had thought it was the best thing to do to encourage you to keep going. He didn’t know why, but he wanted Reggie to believe you. Luke believed you, hard as nails. There only had to look at your eyes to understand this reality, and Luke had noticed that. You had the same blue eyes as your brother. How could Reggie still doubt that? You started to sing
 You're so sleepy
Very much sleepy
You want to go to the fairyland
You close your eyes
And jump into your dream.
When you'll wake up
I’ll still be on your team.
The instant Reggie heard the first notes, he knew. But hearing you sing the lullaby he had invented for you when you didn't want to sleep as a child, was a magical moment. You were his baby sister. He gave you that sad little puppy face, so overwhelmed. Reggie opened his arms and you jumped into a hug, so glad he finally accepted the fact that you were his sister.
You felt oddly safe again, like taking a nap in Reggie's pile of old t-shirts. You were so happy to find your brother and to be able to live your non-life by his side. Nothing would be as boring as it used to be. Reggie pushed you away with a concerned look
"but wait ... how did you die?"
"Yeah ... I don't really know ... I was at a really, really good rock concert and I bought this drink ... and I think I got drugged up there and ... I guess I'm dead? tadaa " you tried to tell him in a light tone.
He had just learned that he had a little sister. He didn't have to know that she was sneaking out at rock concerts and drinking alcohol before she was old enough. Right? Alex looked at Luke and Reggie with his half amused half confused smile. As for Luke, he fidgeted from foot to foot at the discovery. Y / N was as much rock and roll as they all were. Rebellion had to be his middle name
You loosened Reggie's embrace and lowered your head, pursing your lips so as not to show your embarrassment. He asked if you wanted snacks and you nodded. There was a slight silence. You didn't notice the urgent look Luke gave Alex but the next moment the blond jumped up to accompany the bassist, leaving you alone in the garage with the lead singer.
The silences were a little longer until Luke cautiously approached you. You could feel the awkwardness from miles away.
 “ Sooo, you made this.”
“ yeah ...” you answered in a shy voice
It was the moment you had to thank him but your words seemed frozen. You mustered all the courage to plant your gaze in Luke's eyes.
“Thank you ... for helping me earlier.”
 “oh it was nothing”.
“I ... yes, yes it was. You can't imagine how important seeing Reggie again is to me. Thanks for ... for helping me open his eyes.”
A slight smile caught his lips and he reached for your cheek before stopping his gesture. Instead of stroking your skin, he simply put a section of your hair back behind your ear.
“I would do anything for my best friends.”
And Reggie was definitely one of Luke’s best friend. You hardly swallowed, your stomach contorting under the effect that the guitarist made you. Time had seemed to fly at an incredible speed as the moment was interrupted by Reggie and Alex coming back to you.
“OMG LUKE DON’T FLIRT WITH MY SISTER, SHE’S 3!”
You cleared your throat and stepped aside to pull yourself away from Luke as far as possible. Your gaze fell on your brother and you raised an eyebrow at the last remark. 3 years old, really? You were 3 years old twenty-five years ago ... now you were eternally a teenager
 “I’m seventeen.”
“Listen, i'm your big brother, you’re three, end of discussion.”
Your face wanted to laugh and you pursed your lips to keep from succumbing. But your eyes… Your eyes met Luke's in a complicity that slowly settled. Could you fall in love with your big brother's best friend? Definitely yes...

Cheer up!
Summary: anon requested the reader being down for no reason the sunset curve boys cheering her up
Words: 1.6k
Warnings: lots of platonic cuddles
Pairings: none
Did I expose my touch starvedness with this one? Yes. Also terribly sorry to the anon who requested this and then had to wait two weeks.
...........................................
Julie just kept walking by as she watched you flop down on your bed. You stayed face down, not really feeling the need to get up.
You thought you heard her lean on the frame in your doorway but when you turned around no one was there so you just shrugged it off and face planted back on your bed.
But pretty soon you jumped up when you felt a hand tap your shoulder.
“Luke!”
He grimaced. “Sorry didn’t mean to scare you,” he apologized.
“Didn’t Julie just tell you guys off about boundaries?” You narrowed your eyes at him.
He looked slightly guilty. “Yes, but there’s an exception today,” Luke hinted.
“And what would that be?” you grumbled.
“Because you’re all upset and shit,” he explained.
You half expected him to be joking but he was looking at you with complete seriousness. You felt your heart melt a little bit.
“And why do you know that?” you asked out of curiosity.
“Because you’ve been moping around all day!” Julie exclaimed. You turned to see your sister in the doorway.
“I have not!” you defended yourself. You looked to Luke for support but he was seemingly very interested in looking out your windows.
“Y/n you have barely left your room today, so you’re hanging out with them till you stop being a sad bitch,” she demanded.
You started to say how uncalled for she was being but she just ignored you and walked out.
You groaned and flopped back down on your bed. Luke’s lips twitched up in a way that you could tell he was trying not to laugh at you. “Oh no, I’m gonna need backup, aren’t I?” Luke rhetorically asked.
Before you could utter an ‘I’m fine’ the three were in your room. “Y/n you know what always makes me feel better when I’m sad?” Reggie asked. You rolled over to your side. “What Reggie?”
He started backing into a corner of your room. “Doing cannonballs.” He started sprinting over to your bed and you quickly rolled off with a yelp as you hit the ground.
Luke high fived Reggie, “Nice, we got her off the bed,” he cheered.
“You guys couldn’t have done that in a way that didn’t potentially send her to the hospital?” Alex asked. He pulled you to your feet, and you squeezed his hands gratefully.
“Meh, it was the more fun way,” Reggie shrugged.
Alex rolled his eyes. “Now come on, we’re going to the studio,” he told you.
You groaned, “No thanks, I’m just gonna stay here.” You could tell by the looks on their faces, that they were not going to give up that easily.
“Y/n I will carry you down there,” Reggie threatened. He crossed his arms, and Luke put his arm around him in agreement. You hopefully looked to Alex for defense but he shook his head at you.
“I’ll come on my own,” you agreed, not wanting to risk them dropping you.
Luke and Reggie shared a glance before trailing behind you to the studio. “Okay, so what do you guys want me to do in here?” you asked, as you walked through the doors.
“Well it’s more of what we want to show you,” Alex half explained.
You raised your eyebrows in confusion.
“We were waiting for a specific time to show you it, but we decided what better time than now,” Luke continued. Whatever it was, they all looked antsy to show it to you.
“So what is it?” Their excitement was starting to pass onto you.
“You have to close your eyes!” Reggie suddenly remembered.
With tight lips and suspicious eyes, you analyzed the three of them. Despite your love of the three you did not trust them for a second.
Luke tilted his head down and glanced up at you. “Come on y/n, you’ll be fine,” he insisted.
You nervously let your eyes shut. You could hear the three shuffling around, and you were pretty sure you heard someone trip; which you had to stifle a giggle at. You felt someone nearing you and you accidentally held your breath.
“Okay y/n you can open your eyes,” Reggie called out.
You opened them to see Alex hiding something behind his back, he pulled it out to show it to you. It was a black cropped leather jacket with little studs scattered on it, he turned it around to show the back which neatly said 'sunset curve manager' in white paint.
You took it into your hands. “Did you guys make this?” you asked in amazement.
“Well, we needed a little help from Flynn, but yeah the four of us made it,” Alex admitted.
You felt your eyes start to heat up. “Thank you guys.”
You couldn’t help but let your mind wander to how much time and effort they had probably put into your gift. Even though you weren’t actually a part of their band, they truly cared about you as if you were. You hugged the jacket to your chest, “I’m literally never taking this off,” you laughed, as your eyes started watering freely.
“Oh no, she’s crying. This is supposed to make her not sad,” Reggie joked. Luke mockingly elbowed him in the ribs.
“Do you need a hug?” Alex offered with open arms.
“Yeah, I’ll take one,” you agreed. You wrapped your arms around him, his sweatshirt was nice and soft, but still cold, since he was a ghost. You hoped you were leaking your tears onto his clothes.
“Can we get in on the hug?” Reggie hopefully asked.
“Sure,” you responded. Before you could move to let them in, they decided it was just best to squish you between them. Luke was to your left and Reggie was to your right. They all tightly squeezed you, as if it was the last time they were gonna get a hug. You could feel all of their hands against your back and you let yourself relax into their arms. As much as you were enjoying the closeness, after a while, it did feel like they were cutting off your air flow.
“Guys, I think you might be killing me,” you announced.
“Oh trust me it’s not that painful you’ll be fine,” Alex told you. You couldn’t currently see his face, but you were certain that he was smirking.
“I love you guys, but I’m not dying today,” you retorted.
They all backed up to give you some room to breathe. “So you wanna talk about what’s wrong?” Luke suggested.
You took a moment to put your feelings into words. “I don’t know, I guess I don’t really have a reason; I’ve just been really down today,” you admitted.
“You know what helps me with that?” Reggie asked.
You turned to him with wide eyes. “Reggie if you are about to almost land on me again I swear to god,” you threatened.
Reggie couldn’t help but laugh at that, and you heard Luke snicker. “No, I was going to say watching a comedy tv show,” he explained.
“Oh, nevermind then,” you backpedaled.
“Come on, I’ll set up the projector,” Luke offered.
“I really don’t want to bother you guys though,” you brought up.
“It’s not bothering if we want to spend time with you, and besides you would really be letting them down they haven’t been able to have a movie night in weeks,” Alex said.
“Are you manipulating me into self care right now?” you questioned.
Alex shrugged and his lips quirked up. “Maybe a little bit.”
“Wow, that’s a low blow for you Alex,” you scoffed. He just shrugged again. But his plan worked, you sat yourself down on the floor, and gladly took the blanket Reggie gave you.
“So what are we watching?” Luke asked the group of you.
“Parks and Rec?” you suggested.
“Sounds good to me,” Alex agreed, and Reggie shook his head.
Luke managed to have minimal struggles getting the show to play but he eventually did and came to sit next to the three of you.
It didn’t take long for all of you to be in a big cuddle pile on the floor along with various pillows and blankets. You were pretty sure Reggie was snoring by the fourth episode. Luke and Alex were practically laying on top of each other. Reggie’s head rested on top of your legs and Luke’s arm was resting on top of your stomach. In that moment you were perfectly comfy and completely happy. The blissful happiness wrapped a warmth around your body, that felt very similar to the hug from earlier. The warmth gently put you to sleep within minutes.
You awoke what felt like minutes later to the lights being flicked on. “Y/n Dad says it’s time for dinner!” Carlos called.
You groaned, “Carlos I was sleeping.”
That did not make Carlos look any more sympathetic. “And we are trying to be eating,” Carlos retorted. The boys started stirring at hearing speaking.
“Fine I’m getting up,” you surrendered.
“So?” Carlos questioned.
“So what?” you asked, as you grabbed your new jacket.
“Did they make you not a sad bitch?”
“Carlos! You can’t say that word!” You heard Luke start loudly laughing behind you.
“Well did they?” he intently asked.
You glanced back at the boys adoringly, “Yes, they did.”

Brother & sister
Luke Patterson x sister!reader
Summary: he was there before you and you're so thankful he gave his love to you
Warnings: slight fluff, slight angst.
Inspo: Brother & Sister by Matthew Mole
This is set in the 80s/90s when they were still alive. Oh and your 5 years younger than him.
Tumblr media
You were there before me and what a pair we eventually would be
"Luke.. This is your little sister! Y/n!" Emily said as the young boy walked into the hospital room, excited to meet his baby sister.
"She's cute!" The boy said climbing onto the bed before poking you.
My older blood, you were made in God's hand and I've learnt so much, could you even understand
You sat watching your brother play the Nintendo before copying him with the controller to had that had no batteries in it.
That you were my guiding light in our early days
To say you wanted to be just like Luke would be an understatement. You copied him all the time.
"Stop!" He whined.
"Stop!" You copied laughing.
"Mom! Get her to stop!"
"Mom get her to stop!" You copied. Emily chuckled smiling.
"Come on y/n how about we go make cookies."
"Okay!" You smiled.
You'd help me to sleep at night
You climbed up the ladder quietly and onto Luke's bunk. Unbeknownst to you your movements woke him up. You crawled next to him before shaking him.
"Lukie! I can't sleep." You whined he groaned sitting up.
"Lay down stinker." He said pushing you down before laying back down and warping a arm around you.
When I was afraid then you'd be there by my side and I never say enough that I love you
You sat under your blanket whimpering as the storm went on.
"Y/n! Where are you!" Your 13-year-old brother shouted from the hallway. Before he walked into your shared room frowning when he saw the lump under the blanket.
"Lukie." You whimpered poking your head from the blanket. His frown deepened noticing the tears in your eyes.
"Scoot over." He hopped onto your bed and under the blanket pulling you into his side. "Nothing will get you." He promised.
"I love you." You said laying your head on his shoulder as you laid there.
When we'd fight it would be over right before I could say sorry
"It's mine!"
"No mine!"
----
"Want to go get ice cream with me?" He asked you walking into the living room. You nodded running over.
"Yeah!"
And though you're far from where home used to be
You sat at the table watching as your mom and brother fought again. It became a common occurrence lately, but you had a feeling this one would be different. Oh how you were right, he ran out of the house. You never stood up quicker running after him straight passed your mom.
"Luke! Don't leave please!" You cried, as he grabbed his bike. He looked at you, anger from his fight with your mom clouded his best judgement as he rode off. You ran after him as fast as you could but you could catch up. You stopped at the end of the street, crying. Your dad came to find you after a few minutesm
I will always go where you are if you need
Luke stood, watching you run around the playground near your house, the same one him and you went together all the time. It had been a month since he left. He made it a common occurrence to go here or your house just to check up. But he never approached. Well until today.
"Give it back Jake!" You shouted as the boy stole the large hoodie you had tied around your waist.
"Why what's it to you?" He asked mockingly. Luke's first clenched watching.
"It was my brother's give it back!" You tried to take it from the older boy but he held it too high.
"No."
"Give it back to her." Luke said watching over cautiously. You gasped smiling when you noticed who it was.
"Fine." Jake dropped it and walked off with his friend. You ran into Luke's arms hugging him.
"I knew you'd come back! Wait till you see mom! She'll be so happy!"
"Y/n I can't come home with you..." He said sadly
Because you were my guiding light when I tried to sing you'd teach me to harmonize and
"No like this." He said beginning to sing it.
"Oh," you said before copying him.
"Good job!" He smiled high fiving you. "Okay I gotta go see the guys when I get home we can keep practicing.
With everything you'd be there to fight my fight and I never say enough that I love you
"Your big brother isn't here to protect you this time." Jake said smirking at you as he walked up to you on the playground where you were waiting for Luke.
"Leave me alone."
"No." He said pushing you.
"Hey! Pick on someone your own size." Luke exclaimed, as him, Reggie, Bobby, and Alex made their way over.
"Okay." The teen pushed Luke. Luke pushed him back, before Bobby joined in, while Reggie backed up quickly making as much distance from them and him as possible, and Alex went over to you bringing you to stand by Reggie before trying to defuse the situation.
"Stop!" Alex said glaring at his friends.
"Let's just go." Jake's friend said before they ran off.
"You okay Stinker?" Luke asked a teasing yet concerned smile on his face.
"Yeah. I love you." You hugged him before hugging his friends who became like older brothers to you.
"We're playing the Orpheum!" Luke told you.
"Cool!" You exclaimed. If only you knew this would be the last time you'd see three of them.
You were there before me and I'm so thankful you gave your love to me
A/n: my first Julie and the fat ones post!!!! Hope yinz liked it!
