Early 2000s/late 1990s anime that is now on the verge of ‘forgotten’ status

I’m talking about those nostalgic analogue animations, or when the anime industries were facing a strange identity crisis of digital or analogue. I don’t know about you, but looking back, that period of anime certainly was the most mature I’ve ever seen, even compared to most shows ever released in the past decade or so.

Okay so.

Here’s my headcannons/what I see.

In all AUs in the end Janis, Damien, Karen, Regina, Cady, and Gretchen end up as a friend group.

Lindsay’s Cady is much more calmer, and prefers to solve stuff peacefully, and Rachel’s Regina is more verbally a bully; is closeted, and has internalized homophobia. She’s mean (but not to mean, playful insults.) in an affectionate way to Cady. She often banters with Janis and compliments and spoils the former plastics a lot. 2004!Damien (idk the name lmao) is Rachel!Regina’s best friend. Like, genuinely. He’s her gay icon. Lacey’s Gretchen still seeks compliments from Regina and calls Amanda’s Karen “Kare-bear.” Amanda’s Karen constantly cuddles Lacey’s Gretchen.

Taylor’s Regina will hurt someone if they hurt her friends.  Yes, even Janis. Erika’s Cady always has to hold her back, but Barrett’s Janis just wants to watch. Ashley’s Gretchen and Taylor’s Regina constantly try to scare each other (in a friendly way.) Kate’s Karen is just overall really silly.

Reneé’s Regina gets easily jealous. Angourie’s Cady seems really shy and awkward, but if you hurt her friends, she WILL murder you. There has been cases where Auli’i’s Janis and Jaquel’s Damien had to hold her back because someone insulted them or the former plastics. Avantika’s Karen can choose very cute outfits. Like, she has a taste for cute stuff. And she likes candy. Don’t argue with me. Bebe’s Gretchen has adhd and keeps a diary. (VERONICA??)

For ships they’re all cadina.

Rachel’s Regina actually is pretty calm unless someone is flirting with Cady. If she thinks they’re maybe flirting she just wraps an arm around Lindsay’s Cady and Cady will lean into her touch. Lindsay’s Cady is usually really calm but beside Regina 24/7.

Taylor’s Regina gets easily jealous if it’s a boy. If it’s a girl- especially someone she knows, she’s completely… well, almost completely fine with it. She’s by Cady’s side every second she can be. Erika’s Cady is easily flustered but pretty energetic. She’s usually pretty amused whenever Regina becomes possessive.

Reneé’s Regina is in the middle of Rachel’s Regina and Taylor’s Regina. She can get jealous but is sort of reasonable about it. Angourie’s Cady can get jealous, especially if someone is flirting with Regina. She’ll turn passive aggressive or just pure aggressive.

hey!! so i’m not in any other fandoms actively right now (oh wait except supernatural and taylor swift i guess, but i don’t post) but there’s a lot of shows i like!! GLEE, derry girls, the boys, jjk, ouran, and kare kano to name a few! i’m really into romantic comedy mainly, and a lot of my favorite movies are 1980s-2000s romcoms. sandra bullock, tom hanks, john cusack, etc! if you ever need any retro romcom recs, i’m your gal. i don’t really fully dislike any genre, but sci-fi and biopics definitely aren’t my favorite.

Photo dump circa 2016. Ini waktu kami udah exchange di Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) di Penang. Program exchange di kampus ini ga hanya temen-temen dari Indo yang join. Ada yang dari Jepang, Jerman, Switzerland, Rusia, banyaklah pokoknya.

Slide 1-3 itu waktu Opening Ceremony buat penyambutan mahasiswa exchange. Rada saltum yah karena sempet dibilang pake baju yang proper gt, taunya itu bule-bule malah pada koloran wak T_T Sempet-sempetin aja lah foto sama temen-temen baru. Kebanyakan lupa namanya T_T soalnya pada jarang main instagram. Paling yang inget cuma Chika Jepang, soalnya tinggalnya di Dorm juga. Kamarnya sebelahan. Trus yang cowok itu dari Switzerland. Kesukaannya kak Mersi, sampe punya panggilan kesayangan untuknya T_T HAHAHA NGAKAK.

Foto ke 4 itu pemandangan dari atas kamar di dorm. Itu kalo ga salah kaya pujasera gitu lho. Banyak banget yg jual makanan. Kadang kalo bosen makanan Mak Cik, ya makan di sana. Trus kalo ga salah kamarku dulu di lantai 10. Agak PR ya wak kalo liftnya rusak. Tapi untung cuma sekali sih.

Terus itu iseng aja fotoin kamar mandi depan kamar yang agak serem karna lampunya gelap, tapi aku bertahan aja di sana walaupun kalo mandi harus bawa hape buat dengerin lagu Ariana Grandeh~

Terus tiap makan juga di foto. Maklum ya, pendatang baru. Di indo dulu kan belum ada tuh milo sama kitkat ais krim WKWK. trus segala fotoin makanannya yang belum masuk di lidahku T_T itu waktu aku makan di Subaidah, kantinnya di dalem Uni. Mienya namanya maggi yang ga se sedap indomie dan kare india alias nasi kandar(?) yg terasa aneh HAHAHA

Waktu ke Penang, karna jatuh hapeku jadi retak-retak sad banget. Jadinya jarang foto :(

Oiyak, kuliah di sana jarak dorm sama kampus jauh banget. Pernah coba jalan bener-bener langsung mandi keringet. Jadi harus naik bus kampus warna biru~ dan naiknya antri juga sama mahasiswa2 lain. jadi inget aku selalu bawa payung kalo di sana, karna bener2 panas udaranya. Mirip surabaya lah ya. Kemana-mana juga naik Rapid, bus lokalnya Penang. Aku sering naik bus sendirian ke Queensbay Mall sama 1st Avenue di George Town buat window shopping ke H&M T_T berani juga ya aku kalo dipikir-pikir. Hehe.

He highlighted the remarkable success of the ongoing VNL 2023, with a notable 50% increase in attendance compared to last year's edition, as well as substantial growth in OTT subscribers since the beginning of the event.   In addition, the Board discussed and approved a number of proposals from the FIVB Commissions and Councils. Beach volleyball Olympian Doaa Elghobashy from Egypt is now part of the Athletes’ Commission   In particular, the FIVB Board of Administration approved, with immediate effect, the following proposals of the Athletes’ Commission:   1) For Simone Anzani (ITA) to substitute resigned Samuele Papi (ITA) as an Athletes’ Commission Member   2) For Sam Deroo (BEL) to substitute Samuele Papi (ITA) as the Athletes’ Commission Secretary   3) For Doaa Elghobashy (EGY) to substitute resigned Anouk Verge-Depre as an Athletes’ Commission Member. World champion, Simone Anzani joins the FIVB Athletes’ Commission   Moreover, Kare Mol (NOR), a head coach of the Norwegian Vikings, Anders Mol and Christian Sorum, joins the Technical and Coaching Commission as an observer representing beach volleyball.   During the meeting, the Presidents of all five Continental Confederations presented their projects for the years 2023-2024, while updates on volleyball and beach volleyball events were also shared, including the Olympic Games Paris 2024. My Little Tomato Adds New Flavour to Rom-Coms

Playing until March 19th at The Cultch Historic Theatre, My Little Tomato is a co-production with Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre (vAct) and Zee Zee Theatre in association with rice & beans theatre. While the overall premise of My Little Tomato is a boy-meets-boy rom-com, writer Rick Tae and director Cameron Mackenzie along with the two leads Nelson Wong and Taylor Kare, have crafted a fun, new take on the timeless story, adding a surreal dream-like overlay to the tale of love, lust, culture and race.

My Little Tomato plays at The Cultch Historic Theatre until March 19, 2023 My Little Tomato finds Chinese-Canadian primary-teacher Keaton Chu (Wong) wallowing in grief, having just lost his parents in a car accident, and being suddenly thrust into running the family farm. Along comes Japanese-Irish-Canadian produce buyer, Joe McKinley (Kare), who's parents, a domineering Irish mother and an absent Japanese father, linger large in his thoughts. With all the bravado and confidence of a 25 year old, Joe bolding comes on to Keaton, drawing him out of his date-less comfort zone. As the duo dip their toes into this new relationship, their preconceptions and their insecurities (aided by a few cocktails) play with their minds and provide them each with an imaginary "support-produce", played with flair by Shay Dior, who breaks the 4th-wall as they help the pair navigate the orchard of love. While the play is a quick 75-80 minutes (no intermission), it packs a whole lot of entertainment, laughter and thought. With Wong and Kare in nearly every moment, they brilliantly lay bare their emotions (and some skin) while giving us plenty of comedy to go along with the romance. Rick Tae's script deftly touches on perceptions and realities of Asian and mixed-Asian race and culture, especially when it comes to dating, parental and personal expectations. Sophie Tang's creative set leaves much to the audience's imagination, and the actors' skill, to come up with venues and locations. It's always refreshing to see ourselves represented in media, and judging from the audiences' reaction to the work, everyone found something to enjoy.
