Jason Gently has had something wrong with him for as long as he can remember. At home it had always been loving, and caring. His family were all odd in similar ways and knew how to love each other endlessly for who they were as people, for the things that made them unique. Unfortunately for Jason, the rest of the world wasn’t quite as accepting of his brand of oddities. From a young age, the combination of constant bullying from other children and his own accident prone nature had him hurting more often than not.

Despite this, Jason was always happy, always smiling, he made friends in the muggle school he learned in growing up. His best friend was named Martin, and he was the most important person in Jason’s life outside of his family. Jason loved him. When he received his Hogwarts letter at the end of primary, Jason decided to finally tell Martin how he felt. After Martin responded by attacking him with a knife, he was all the more glad to be going away to Hogwarts the next year, even with the newly acquired scars he now needed to hide.

His family was incredibly excited to have another wizard in their family, Christopher Gently being a halfblood himself. They were all there to see him off to Hogwarts his first year. He was sorted into Sytherin, felt immediate pride for his house and the brilliant people in it, but as most things for him it wasn’t quite so easy.

The bullying followed him to Hogwarts with his sorting. Other Slytherins found it all too easy to pick at his faults, he wasn’t a pureblood, he was too small, too timid, too gentle for the house. His ambition was focused on simpler things. He became known as the misplaced Hufflepuff amongst his peers; A badger in snake’s clothing, and far from accepted by other Slytherins.

He didn’t stop being himself, but he learned to be more quiet. He learned to stay out of other students' way, how to shut up and take himself to the hospital wing when he was roughed up, how to be happy with his own company. And his time at Hogwarts was as happy as it could have been along with everything else. He didn’t get the best grades in his classes, but his ambition showed every here and there in the things he took interest in, and Jason became extremely good at a specific handful of skills. He managed to become an animagus, and it became all too easy to walk around in his little tabby cat form without being bothered. All was fine until the end of seventh year, just before his graduation.

The attack was covered minimally by wizard media. It was decided that it had been caused by a gas fire, but the way the mansion had exploded all at once had been so sudden. And it left Jason with nothing more than an inheritance. He would have given it all for his family back.

Fresh out of Hogwarts and now alone in the world, he put his money and one of his few talents into the running of his own little bakery in Godric's Hollow. He thought about the wrongs done to him by muggle and magical hands alike daily, and mourned for things he could never get back. Despite it all he took no side in the war, refusing to raise a hand or wand to another person. He opened his door and his heart to anyone and continued to love easily and unconditionally as his family had always taught him to, wishing to never be the cause of another person’s pain. He put others before himself at every opportunity, and somehow survived to see the end of the war. 

With the war over and both sides hurting, Jason hoped that somehow everyone might be able to heal from it together, so they could move forward into a kinder world.

Knowing too much AU

It starts out so innocent and simple. Tim is spending a relaxing day with his friends, when Kon starts complaining about Tim sneaking up on him again. “Not a meta my ass! I swear, you Bats have this super creepy ability to make NO SOUND. I have super-hearing. I can hear a damn pin drop a mile away. Yet once again, I nearly shit myself this morning when I saw you in the kitchen!”

Tim just rolls his eyes. “The reason you don’t hear me Kon is because you’re distracted. I just learned how to take advantage of that.”   

But Kon crosses his arms and vehemently shakes his head. “Tim, I hear a lot of shit. Stuff, I really, really don’t want to hear. You though? No footsteps, no breathing and your heartbeat? I gotta actually listen for that! I swear it’s like living with a ghost!”

The gang laugh it off after awhile but the conversation stays with Tim. While Kon tended to exaggerate, what he said was kinda true. Tim is 100% sure he’s not a meta and he doesn’t feel any different then usual, but he can keep an eye out on the rest of the bat-family, right?

What he sees changes everything. Dick is too fast, too flexible, his body twisting in ways no human should. Jason accuracy is beyond that of a machine, and his ability to recover from injuries is too fast. Cassandra’s eyesight is incredible, Barbra’s memory is vast, and Alfred isn’t aging. Damian and Stephanie seem to be the least affected but there are signs that is changing.

Whatever is changing them, it’s influencing Bruce the most, and Tim is determined to figure out what the hell is going. But some things shouldn’t be known, and Tim finds himself delving into the world of the Eldritch, and that has consequences.

IN short, Tim finds out the bat-family are becoming less human because an ancient eldritch being is obsessed with them, and Tim finding this out through his poking around accidently progresses the change happening to him even faster.

So now Tim’s a half eldritch being who has to make sure the world’s greatest detective doesn’t find this out, because the same thing that happened to Tim could happen to Bruce.

Small tiddbits =Fear gas reveals Tim’s true form. Tim’s form is the embodiment of hope for Gotham. Looks like a manta-ray cause, I guess, manta rays are pretty smart? Can eat magic and fear.

I like when the Lazarus pit is an ally so whenever I think about transfem Jay she usually crawls out of the pit a girl and has to deal with the aftermath, and particularly in her Lost Days/utrh era I think she'd want something basic and utilitarian that she can still use to hurt Bruce. I like my women unstable and vengeful I fear.

It does vary by universe for me though because sometimes a certain name just fits better.

I have solved jason todd discourse. The problem is that red hood/jason todd enjoyers are actually three completely different groups masquerading as one:

Fluff Jason Fans, who want him to be a pure hero, fully integrated into a loving and happy family. Desperate for his bloody reign of terror to be NBD and also not his fault. Huge fans of "good big brother Jason". Dislike when he is in any way bad.

Righteous Jason Crusaders, who want him to be a murderous antihero, estranged from his non-killing family but validated by the narrative. Desperate for him to show strong and consistent principles. Huge fans of "the people of Gotham actually love and respect Red Hood". Dislike when he is in any way wrong.

Tragedy Jason Lovers, who want him to be a traumatized kid come back wrong, haunting his family as he claws for satisfaction. Desperate for conflict that isn’t easily solved. Huge fans of when every character is being morally challenged and also miserable. Dislike when he is ever a clear-cut hero.

Therefore I propose henceforth Jason Todd comics, fic, analysis, and other discussion be clearly labelled with the appropriate category. This will solve all problems forever I think.
