I got my driver’s license last week….just like we always talked about…’cause you were so excited for me to finally drive up to your house...but today I drove through the suburbs crying cause you weren’t around

Closing your diary, you didn’t want to look back at the lines that you had just written. Your mind was on Regulus, just as it always was...and there was no stopping it. It had been two months since he started dating some Slytherin pureblood girl and forgot you. Deep down you knew that you should have been surprised. This girl was everything that you weren't (everything that Regulus should have wanted.) She was blonde, beautiful, and of course a pureblood.

You, on the other hand, was a half blood that was shy. Sure, you were pretty in your own way but you did not stand out compared to her...Regulus started dating the other girl a few months before. In the beginning, he promised nothing would change between the two of you. You were his “favorite” Hufflepuff and he needed you as much as you needed him. Slowly, Regulus began “forgetting” the times that the two of you would hang out. You would find yourself sitting in the library or at the top of the astronomy tower all alone...then came the day when you said hello to him in the hallway and Regulus kept walking. You stood there like a fool looking after him. It didn’t help that his friends took the time to say hello but Regulus couldn’t. After that the two of you hadn’t spoken a word to each other.

How Regulus seemed so okay that your friendship over was even more confusing. He went through each day as if you simplify were a page in his history that was over and never to be heard from again. If you meant so little to him why did he always tell you that you were priceless and unforgettable?

I guess I am not so unforgettable after all..

You thought watching him snog his girlfriend for the fourth time of the day. Of the few times that he kissed you, it was always in private and away from potential eyes. Were you that hideous that Regulus had to hide away from?

Your brother Remus and his friends tried to convince you that this was for the best. They tried to remind you of how “toxic” Regulus could be…

“He’s flirted with you for years…”

“Then dropped you like a bad habit.”

“You’re worth more than that.”

Of course, they meant well and you knew it but the words were painful to hear. You also knew that Remus, James, Sirius, Peter, and Lily were also tired of hearing you whine about how much that you missed Regulus. They wouldn’t say it but you could see the looks that were exchanged (particularly between Remus and Sirius). You tried to understand their point of view. Sirius and Remus had begged you not to get close to Regulus in the first place. Unfortunately, they didn’t know the boy that you knew. They didn’t know how kind and caring that Regulus could be. He was the boy that you spent hours reading or snuggling with.

Sundays are the worst…

You had to choke back a tear thinking about how much you hated Sundays now. That was the day that you spent exclusively with Regulus. Whether it was spending the afternoon snuggling by the lake or doing something else...Sundays were your day with Regulus...alone. Now you spent them by yourself. You still went to the lake to read but it wasn’t the same...nothing would ever be the same.

The school year ending was the best thing for you. You were thrilled to go home for summer. Being away from Regulus was the best thing for you. Little did you know how fast the three months would fly by.

Sitting on the train to go back to Hogwarts, you couldn’t believe it was time to go back. It seemed like you had just gotten home and it was time to leave. You looked up as Sirius, James, Remus, and Peter came running into the compartment that you had saved. Sirius, James, and Peter froze looking at you with wide eyes.

“What?”

You asked, meeting your brother’s own confused expression. Sirius and James automatically grinned.

“Look who had a glow up this summer.”

James commented as Sirius sat down beside you.

“You look simply stunning.”

He commented before leaning closer.

“Everything about you has changed. You’ve always been lovely but now you're simply stunning.”

Remus rolled his eyes and sat down. He should have known what it was about. You had “grown up” over summer. It seemed like you had gone to bed a girl and woke up a woman with a full bust and curves. It was no wonder his friends were drooling over you. Remus, however, didn’t want to witness it.

“Padfoot, Prongs...stop. I don’t want to watch either of you try to get your game on with my sister.”

Sirius stood up.

“Fine, I’ll go flirt with her somewhere else. Come on, Y/n. Let’s go find a snack.”

You shrugged and decided to follow Sirius out. Getting out of the compartment and away from your friends flirting seemed like a good idea.

“What was that back there? I thought that you had something going on with my brother?”

You questioned as you walked beside Sirius. He grinned.

“Come on, I’m a flirt. Remus knows that. I was hoping to talk to you alone to see how you had been doing. Your letters this summer have been a little vague.”

You shrugged. Sirius was right on that one. You weren’t the best with keeping up with your friends over the summer.

“Sorry...I was busy with my mum. She decided that we are now the best of friends and I was following her all over the place. You know how mums are.”

Sirius chuckled.

“Yeah, I know all about those. Lucky for you, your mum is a lot nicer than mine. I wanted to talk to you about something before we arrive at school. Regulus and his hoe broke up.”

Sirius wasn’t surprised when you frowned. You were silent for a moment before taking a breath.

“Has he asked about me?”

Sirius nodded.

“Actually, yes he has. I think the little git...well...bigger git because he’s grown a few inches is feeling a bit moody over how things went with the two of you.”

“Well, it's his own fault! I wasn’t the one that forgot that my best friend was alive.”

Sirius nodded as Regulus appeared with Evan and Barty Crouch Jr at his side.

“Yes, it was his fault. He was prick. Speaking of pricks. There is the king of them and his two stooges.”

You didn’t even turn in the direction that Sirius was looking.

“Wanna make him feel bad? I’m down for a little fun revenge if you are?”

Sirius commented. Without thinking of what Sirius would do you nodded. Sirius quickly reached out and pulled you into the most awkward kiss that you had ever been a part of.

“Put your arms around me.”

Sirius muttered before going back to kissing you. You wrapped your arms around his neck thinking to yourself about how this had to feel like kissing your brother.

Meanwhile,

Regulus, Barty, and Evan stood with their mouths hanging open. He had been feeling like utter garbage over how he had been treating you. Regulus didn’t even understand how actions. The way that he had been behaving...that wasn’t him. He had thrown away the one girl that seemed to understand him like no other person on the planet for a girl that just wanted to make out with him. Regulus knew that he had to fix things before they reached a point of no return.

He had been sitting quietly by himself when Barty came running in with Evan behind him squealing about how “hot” you had become over the summer.

“Reg, you have to come quick! Y/n is a total sight now!”

Evan commented with a smile. Barty nodded.

“She has boobs and an ass now... they are amazing!”

Regulus had thrown down the book that he was holding and like any 15 year old boy he wanted to go have a look. Sure enough, there you stood with his brother chatting away. He felt his mouth drop looking at you. You had changed and now Regulus was really kicking himself.

The moment that Sirius pulled you into a kiss, the brooding jealousy in Regulus sprung forward. The one good thing that Regulus could say about witnessing this disgusting kiss was you seemed totally caught off guard.

Don’t kiss him, sweetheart...I love…

When your arms wrapped around Sirius’ shoulders, whatever hope that Regulus had fell apart. He found himself staring at the two of you with an opened mouth and breaking heart…

But I still fucking love you, babe

Regulus did love you. Now he knew it. There had always been something inside of him that knew you were it for him. You were the girl that he wanted to spend his time with and devote himself to. Now it was ruined...you were kissing Sirius and Regulus would never have a shot…

Sirius let your face go enough to turn and look at Regulus. He gave you a dark scowl before turning and storming off in the opposite direction.

“Jealous little shit if you ask me.”

Sirius said with a grin.

“Come on, hot lips.”

The rest of the evening was a typical first night back at Hogwarts. From your place at the Hufflepuff you could see Regulus at the Slytherin table. He sat looking angrily down at the plate in front of him. If he was jealous then you wanted to welcome him to your world.

Walking back toward the Hufflepuff common room, you froze the moment Regulus stepped out from behind a pillar.

“Hi, Y/n.”

You crossed your arms over your chest.

“So you do remember my name?”

Regulus sighed.

“I deserve that.”

“Yes, you do.”

You commented before turning and walking in the opposite direction. Where you were going, you had no idea. Regulus quickly walked after you.

“So you like kissing my brother now? I never thought that you would be one of those girls.”

You didn’t stop walking until Regulus reached out and stopped you physically.

“I can kiss whomever I want. Clearly, you have the same right so go snog whatever her name was why don’t you, hot lips.”

Regulus was surprised by your comment. You never sassed him.

“She and I broke up. It didn’t work out.”

“I’m sure it's hard to do any communication with someone’s tongue down your throat.”

Regulus rolled his eyes. You were angry at him and he understood it. What kind of friend was he to forget about you? Clearly a horrible one…

“You were making out with my brother.”

“I didn’t want to. He kissed me to make you jealous.”

Regulus looked down at his feet.

“Well, he did.”

You sighed.

“I’m sorry to hear about that...I don’t understand why it really matters to you anyway. I am just some pathetic Hufflepuff. There are plenty of other girls that I am sure would be a lot better…”

“I don’t give a damn about the other girls! Can you stop being so petty? I’m trying to apologize to you.”

You weren’t about to back down. It was time for Regulus to see just how much you had been hurt over the past six months.

“So you think that an apology is going to be enough to give you free reign over my emotions again? When some other girl gives you a chance because you are handsome, like your brother, you’ll forget me again. I’m not a doormat for you.”

Regulus reached out and took your hands in his.

“Darling, I’m not going to use you as a doormat...please...one chance...that’s all that I’m asking. I’m a stupid boy...a typical useless man.”

Regulus was silent for a moment.

“I’ll just be going...I get it. I do love you, Y/n….I’m just shit at showing love and you should know that by now.”

You watched as Regulus turned to walk away. Automatically, you smacked yourself in the head. Of course, Regulus didn’t know how to show love. Your knowledge of his parents and upbringing hit you like a loaded freight train rushing down a hill. Regulus probably thought what he was doing was just normal. He didn’t realize just how much he had hurt you. Had he been raised by proper parents maybe he would have known the difference.

“Regulus! Wait!”

He stopped walking but didn’t turn to face you.

“Yes?”

You quickly rushed forward and jumped in front of him.

“You said you were sorry…”

He nodded. Regulus was internally hating everything about himself. He hated his parents for never showing him love. Had he had actual loving parents maybe he would know how to treat a woman properly and you would want to love him in return. Regulus hated Sirius for getting “love” from other girls and Remus. While Regulus had no affection for Remus Lupin, Sirius had a constant source of affection while Regulus had nothing.

“That’s what I said.”

You reached out and took his hands back into yours.

“I’m sorry too. I didn’t want to kiss Sirius. I honestly felt like I was kissing my own brother...as messed up as that sounds. I’ve missed you and I’m willing to work on fixing things if you are.”

Regulus finally smiled.

“I won’t fuck up again. It's forever this time.”

im having feels about alphard and i’ve never done one of these things so bear with me and also im way too sleepy but let’s not go there.

basically atticus 2.0

okay so let’s start off with etymology

the name ‘alphard’ is of course a star, because the Black family have an aesthetic to keep

but it’s the brightest star in the hydra constellation

you know who else was the brightest star in a constellation?

thats right, our one and only, sirius black!

his name also roots from arabic, which is pretty fucking metal for someone coming from a racist™ family

it derives from the word “Al Fard“ which means ‘solitary one’

for some reason im getting victorian era widow living in windy hills writing poetry about her former lover but okay

but the correlation of astronomy and etymology between alphard and sirius has gotten me super hyped up on their relationship

of course uncle alphard was the cool™ uncle, but what if he was so much more?

what if he was the one who kinda brought sirius out of his shell?

because i cant imagine that living with the Blacks with such a fiery, rebellious personality would make for an encouraging childhood

so if sirius was this little kid, with so much pent up anger and suppressed personality

who was that small light in sirius’s life? like the one person who truly allowed sirius to be himself?

my old man, alphard

also for some reason, i get the vibe that he was really into either rifle shooting or archery

something muggle related that walburga didn’t want her kids near

but both reg and sirius was super curious, and absolutely loved it because it’s really the only muggle thing they’ve ever seen

and so every summer when the kids went and stayed with him

he’d show them his collection of rifles that he’d collected

and he’d tell stories of buying them from muggles and learning it with those wooden target dudes

and sirius and reg would just look up to him in awe because he talks to muggles!

oh and what if alphard, our old school rebel sometimes took them to muggle london?

imagine this: young sirius and reg wandering through 70s muggle london with this smart, friendly but also intimidating young man

and they’re just so excited, but they try to keep quiet because they were raised to sit still look pretty

i hate their parents ugh

anyway so sirius finally snaps when he sees a popcorn maker

and for the first time alphard’s ever seen, one of walburga’s kids smiles

sirius points enthusiastically at the popcorn maker blurting out questions at the speed of light

until regulus tells him to keep quiet

sirius suddenly realises his outburst, and is filled with fear

because oh god, he loved uncle alphard, and the last thing he wanted was for his uncle to be mad

but then to his surprise

alphard just chuckles and smiles at him

his expression turns concerned when he sees the near tears in sirius’s eyes

“what’s wrong?” he asks in that gentle tone- that no one could expect from such a burly man

“i’m sorry,” stuttered out a five year old sirius, trying to keep tears in

“don’t be sorry! you were excited, there’s nothing wrong in having fun, is there?”

and this is the first time sirius has ever heard such a thing

so he looks up at alphard in confusion

alphard gives him that sweet, encouraging smile

and sirius hugs him like anything, holding on tightly and letting tears stain his robe

uncle alphard is actually the first person sirius had ever hugged

the only one he’d ever hugged until third year in hogwarts, when him and james had that conversation

back to alphard

these meetings to muggle london would be secret, and neither of them would tell their mother

regulus of course had his suspicions, and felt bad about hiding it from his mother

but in the end he loved fish and chips too much to give it up

especially when they had ice lollies while at the river or seaside

alphard and sirius had an even closer relationship once sirius was sorted into gryffindor

of course, he got the hateful and toxic letter from his parents

but a little while later

he also got one from alphard, which probably made him cry more than walburga

firstly because now uncle alphard would hate him!

but secondly because alphard was the only letter for a long time that’d encouraged him, and told him that he was still loved

and sirius just couldnt believe it

he couldnt believe that he had such an amazing uncle, who even loved him after he disappointed the family

and they corresponded a lot more than walburga knew

much more than walburga wanted them to

“because he’s a bad influence, mixing in with the wrong sort. don’t follow his ideas, they’re wrong”

it was also around then that sirius started questioning his own bigoted beliefs

and he started talking to uncle alphard about them

uncle alphard, being the atticus he was, guided sirius to the right path

(something that walburga would never know of)

also helping sirius make friends, because sirius was so lonely

fast forward to third year

puberty hits sirius like a fucking snake with angel wings on steroids

(dont question my similes)

so sirius starts getting crushes

but here’s the thing- he doesnt have crushes on girls

why not?

marlene was pretty, so was alice and emmeline

so why didnt he want to snog them senseless like james peter, and the rest of the boys did?

he sends letters to uncle alphard, who tells him not to worry

because as all, it doesn’t happen to everyone, and sometimes it takes a little longer for some people

it was also worth mentioning that he wanted to grow closer to fabian prewett

he didnt know why, but he probably wanted to hang out more often with fabian

and so he does

he hangs out much more with fabian, and finds that fabian wants to hang more with him

and that makes him happy

so one late night, both of them were staring at the stars, stolen drinks in hand

(they were at the age that firewhisky tasted disgusting, but an lightly alcoholic butterbeer or gillywater wasn’t bad)

so here they are

and neither of them knows who started it

but suddenly they were snogging each other senselessly

and sirius knew deep down it was wrong, but he just didnt want to stop

because there was this feeling growing inside him- this warm feeling that just made all the rules broken worth it

the next day, however, they both wake up in all sobrierity

and the horror of what they did hits them both like a brick

both of them run away from each other as fast as they can, fabian running to the kitchens and sirius running to the common room

what’s the first thing he does?

he writes to uncle alphard

because uncle alphard would know what to do. uncle alphard would know how to fix this

uncle alphard’s reply was like a punch in the gut for sirius

there wasnt a way to fix it

but there was more

sirius wasn’t broken

and though there was a hidden part of him screaming in his motehr’s voice

he knew that if alphard said he wasn’t broken, then he really wasn’t

and it was that moment that sirius felt it the most

not when he was sorted, not when andromeda patted him on the back

it was now that he felt accepted

genderfluid! sirius (the winner of the votes on my instagram!) :

☆ sirius didnt really think about gender roles

☆ they didnt really think about long hair was for girls, eye liner is a girly thing

☆ or that button ups are for guys, men wear cologne

☆ but sirius...they wore their hair long and had sparkly red eyeliner on? sirius had on a black button up and some expensive cologne?

☆ gender norms weren't their thing

☆ but they didnt always wanna wear cologne and a button up

☆ and they didnt always wanna wear sparkly red eyeliner

☆ some days they preferred neither, one over the other, and some days it changed half way through

☆ and this bugged sirius.

☆ what was wrong with them? did james and remus feel this way too? did peter and lily? regulus? were they being dramatic?

☆ so, like any teenager, they looked it up in books (that may or may not have been stolen from remus, but he doesnt need to know-)

☆ "dysphoria. its- dysphoria." sirius spoke outloud to themself. and felt a breathe they didnt know they were holding out. they found what it was

☆ but- sirius certainly didnt want to be a girl...and "the- the book says it for trans people?"

☆ so sirius, though they didnt want to, had to do more looking, this time into the gender spectrum

☆ "so trans is the big umbrella...which has the nonbinary umbrella...which has all these identities...UGH, THIS IS WHY I HAVE REMUS, HE'D USUALLY DO ALL THIS DUMB READING FOR ME, WHY IS THERE SO MANY LABELS???"

☆ "gender- genderfluid. im genderfluid. I'M GENDERFLUID!"

☆ and though they knew a label wasnt needed (because it isnt), they were glad to put their feelings to words

☆ and get some knowledge on the topic of gender too

☆ like now sirius knew that they preferred they/them, but would like to use any and all pronouns, none bugged them

☆ and knew that some days they preferred to present masculine, some days feminine, some days androgynous, just whatever felt right

☆ now as happy as sirius was, their mood suddenly dropped "what am i gonna tell james..remus..peter..lily..what about reg??"

☆ and so now sirius had to come out

☆ well, they didnt NEED to, but they felt the need to tell their friends

☆ BUT BEFORE THEY COULD DO THIS, SIRIUS BLACK CONFIDES IN THEIR FAVOURITE PROFESSOR, PROFESSOR MCGONAGALL

☆ mcgonagall nodded through sirius' rant and asked one thing at the end "would you prefer me to call you something else as opposed to mister?" (sirius grinned and nodded their head "mx would be nice? but of course i dont mind mister! or miss! anything works minnie!!")

☆ so after having a nice vent to dear mcgonagall, sirius felt ready

☆ first, sirius felt that they should tell remus. i mean, his boyfriend should know right?

☆ "moons..can- can we talk?" and sirius came out to him, late at night, curled up together. remus squeezed them and mumbled a soft "they/them it is, my love"

☆ next was james, their brother (i mean, not biologically but shh)

☆ what were they gonna tell them..."JAMIE SUPRISE IM NO BOY, IM JUST A SIMPLE GENDERFLUID FOLK" and then they ran

☆ yes, it was in the middle of then both getting ready that morning, and yes it was sudden

☆ but they got their point across and james came down to breakfast that morning with one question "so, do i get a question limit? because i need to clear some things up"

☆ next was peter and lily, the two of which were easier to tell, as they could tell them both through a joke

☆ "hey, hey, what did the genderfluid person say to the two cis kids?" "uh..what?" "they said "hey, hey, what did the genderfluid person say to the two cis kids"...i use they/them" "thanks for telling us pads but that joke was horrid"

☆ now reg...

☆ "REGULUS" to which reg whipped their head around "IM GENDERFLUID" they were both in an empty corridor. regulus paused. "UH, COOL, IM AGENDER" sirius paused.

☆ they both let out laughs and hugged each other

☆ and sirius was out! and PROUD

☆ gender norms? dont know her. sirius wore a skirt with the MOST sass

☆ and a suit with the MOST sass

☆ "as much as i love trying to avoid detention, which re, you know im trying, snivilly called me a she-man earlier and id really like to hex his fragile masculinity into oblivion"

☆ and they were just living their happy genderfluid life (:
