I like DnD but I haven't been able to play it

BUT ONE OF MY FUCKING FRIENDS IS IN A HORROR STORY CAMPAIGN

The DM has a crappy Co DM, the other PCs are always rude to my friend's character, for a while the DM "couldn't" even pronounce my friends character's name(later perfectly pronounced it when I was in the same VC, my friend called it out and the DM sounded flustered like the correct pronunciation was a mistake), and the other players seem to CONSTANTLY have something against my friend for some reason???

Not my place to tell the whole thing, partially cuz idk the entire thing, but I want my friend to leave that campaign for the sake of their mental health.

(I also have another friend who is in that campaign but aren't hostile to my friend and some of the horror latches to them as well)

I mean, yeah, the DM is new I know that but THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY SET RULES?????

i try to be accepting of different interpretations of things, but i get so genuinely upset when people will think of every single thing except for the obviously true one just because it doesnt fit with their perception of a character 😭 like i just saw people having a whole actual discussion about like "omg saiki is a ROBOT" because of moments where he either lacks emotion or shows more emotion than usual,,, like wdym u came to THAT conclusion instead of yk... that saiki is a human being and also a teenager who experiences rapid changes in emotion !!!! idk

everyone ik irl who likes anime thinks Demon Slayer is so fucking good when its NOT its just flashy, the writing sucks shit and the jokes arent funny and all the characters are 1 dimensional. And most prominent female character in the show can't talk for like most of the show!

So I substitute and listening in on some conversations-- it's just so startlingly sad how hard kids try to appear moral with inconsequential fandom bs lest they get labeled a Bad Person.

There was a group of girls talking about a ship ("so-and-so has videos of it on tiktok can you believe that," etc) that I know for certain one of them doodles all over the backs of her worksheets and the look on her face, thinking her friends would find out she's one of The Bad People, she has to join in on the shit talking or else. And you know these kids all link their profiles together compulsively so she has to either 1. scramble to delete all traces of it off of her online presence and/or 2. never engage with it because her friends might find out. (and secret option #3. loudly hate it as a form of projection, hoping that it'll direct attention away from her should someone suspect her of being a Bad Person who Ships The Bad Thing.)

Fandom is supposed to be fun, esp when you're a kid and making foundational experiences and friends through it. It's just depressing.

When I was a kid and a rumor about you spread only your class would know about it. Maybe someone would make a myspace bulletin but that didn't have much reach. (plus, no one cared what you shipped back then, shipping wars were basically: "um, Naruto is a BOY, he can't like Sasuke, weirdo.") But now? A teen's peer group is the whole internet, I can't really blame them for being so on edge I guess.

I don't know. Shit's bleak.
