GOD I absolutely agree re:werewolf tropes, especially in romance. I want to read so many werewolf books, but So Many play into pack dynamics/violent werewolf bf/etc etc tropes that it feels nigh impossible to find something that will Hit for me specifically. Do you (or anyone who stumbles upon this) have any recs for werewolf media? Particularly that which is outside of romance as the main plot/genre? (Nothing against romance as a whole, I just don't tend to enjoy it when it's the main focus of a story)

god yeah im the exact same, its why i usually end up gravitating more towards horror werewolves cause at least then i dont normally have to worry about weird alpha boyfriend tropes lol. Being Human (US) is really good in a lot of places (one of my absolute favorite werewolf designs), but the last season really falls into a bunch of those werewolf bullshit tropes so i pretend it doesnt exist lol. i think the good bits outweigh the stupid though! I have also watched the UK version and its. not bad. i just didnt really get into it idk.

The Order 1886 barely feels like a werewolf game even though it is for sure a werewolf game lol. i would recommend just watching a playthru tho cause the gameplay is pretty much nothing but the plot and characters are very cool!!!!

Uhhhh everyone knows van helsing which is an objectively just an ok movie but the werewolves and vampires go so hard i have to like it. Dog Soldiers is also a fun campy flick, and i enjoyed werewolves within but thats more of a mystery than a genuine werewolf movie. Annndddd i did actually like the wolf man 2025 like. its gonna piss a lot of werewolf fans off i think and i know why people dont like it but i think the ideas and themes it presents are really interesting to me specifically! so idk if the individual werewolf enjoyer will like it in the same way i did but i will recommend it if u like werewolves that really lean into the disease/virus aspect of it.

Wilde Life is a webcomic that i really enjoy that is.... werewolf adjacent. I wouldnt really call Cliff a werewolf, more of a shapeshifter, but they sometimes call him a werewolf so its close enough for me to mention it and theres lots of other cool critters and scary bits to make the comic worth recommending.

I dont think Prague Race (webcomic) is officially available anymore but that also had some fun werewolves in it. You can probably find an archive of it if you google the name (the artist's new comic, 'tiger, tiger' is also very good but has nothing to do with werewolves lol)

How to be a werewolf is another webcomic that does do a bunch of the pack dynamic trope but the characters are charming and has some romance but it isn't the primary plot, its more about family than anything. and a female werewolf main character is always a plus!

ok literally this is so niche and i probably shouldnt even bother mentioning it but i have sat on this fic for literally 8 years now and it makes me so sad the author never finished it but. one of the only werewolf fanfics ive ever read that i really clicked with was an overwatch hanzo/cassidy fic called 'spurs don't pair with scare chords' and i need to put it here bc its the platonic ideal of a werewolf fic with a well paced romance that isn't the major intrigue point. its my white whale of a fanfic and it being unfinished haunts me. i wish overwatch was good

i've answered smth similar before, but i only did the main 5 + i have alt ideas and reasonings so!!

stan - a dog, of course. a bigger breed, something that he could reasonably say "i'm a wolf" about even though he is literally not a wolf at all. he's extremely loyal and has strong emotions, and as someone who has had a husky for a number of years, i think they have matching personalities and complexities. the ONLY downside to my affection with him being specifically a husky is that it means he doesn't get stupid floppy doggy ears. so perhaps a husky mix. he needs to look wolflike enough to claim being one, but still be like.. a silly puppy! (he could also genuinely be a wolf- like my tsot stan IS a wolf, undeniably- but i think its more fun if overall he is just a dog who is wolfkin) kyle - my first thought is always a sheep or a sheep/goat hybrid, but i've become fond of deer kyle as well! though.. dragon kyle has become very prominent in my things w/ adrian ( :3c ) and i think he's so fucking cool and awesome as a dragon. why is he a dragon?? because he keeps going "i am a human being." when his friends talk about fursonas and he won't make one but he thinks dragons are cool. fox kyle is fairly popular in the fandom but other than a personal attachment to both kyle and foxes making my heart go '!' every time i see it, i don't personally really like fox kyle on a character level? cute for visuals and i think there's a couple fun jokes to be made, but he's not really much of a fox guy to me. eric - cat or raccoon! obviously. there's not really much other choice, i'll be so honest. maybe a big cat or a non-domestic cat, but he's always like a little guy on your floor who stares at you and waits to be petted and bites you when you pet him because youre never doing it right. i think, like stan, he's most likely a cat who is raccoon kin. thinks they're so cool. if he had the warriors books when he was younger (and was actually assed to read them), he'd be so fucking sick about these cats. kenny - mustelid. i've always leaned into ferret kenny specifically! why? good fucking question. i don't know. but kenny is very rodent coded without feeling like a rat/hamster/guineapig/bunny, y'know? has ratlike qualities but doesn't really Fit. would NOT be a mouse. ferret or a weaselly guy feels right. also because it makes me happy butters - a doggy, too! something medium sized, more likely. lab or a retriever type. a Good Boy who is so naive. knows how to listen and wag his tail and be good, gets confused a lot, whatever. arroouou ruuruuruuu arr arruuu [sound of butters sob-barking from good times with weapons]

craig - hyena! or a very calm wolf! why? because i think he's cool. mainly the hyena thing is for adrian and i just fully agree because it feels right. the concept of him being a wolf is PURELY to make stan mad. tweek - a birddddd my little tweeter.. ♥♥♥ i just think he's very bird coded. i think a canary sounds good for him, warning of danger (even if it isn't really there). might be hybrid with something else, but he's MOSTLY bird. maybe a gryphon? would be a cheetah in that case i think. cheetah/canary. actually yeah that fucking rules he's a gryphon holy shit. clyde - lion. he's strong and proud (but also kinda a coward!!!! yay!) and i think the idea of clyde being a lion and thinking he's got SO MANY GIRLS THATRE HIS is so funny bc of the way the girls kinda toss him around. tolkien - not a lion. maybe a cat, honestly? he's so.... Normal. he's just such a normal guy. i could easily see him slotting into role as a cat. like your typical american shorthair. very average and normal critter that you gotta get to know to learn exactly the ways his personality works and differs from things. jimmy AND timmy - both parrots or parrot-adjacent birds! this is adrian's suggestion, because parrots are very smart and community focused and care about each other. i think the idea of these two being birds who bond over time is so cute. also because i got the thought in my mind of jimmy helping timmy find sweaters to cover up plucked feathers :( used to be VERY stressed out and then he found a friend and now he's doing a lil better.

mole - shockingly, not a mole! i think he'd be a cat. like a weird cat who digs holes, but a cat. not your typical domestic shorthair. maybe a forest cat, actually? :thinking:

douglas - cat, but he'd be like.. a catboy. i couldn't see him as full furry. he'd be your nasty dirty grimy indoor catboy boyfriend. he's awesome augh. dogpoo - unsurprisingly, a doggy. i think he'd be one of those breeds that isn't like.. DEAD without care, but needs care to be at their prettiest, so he's always a little fucked up looking and dirty. fur a mess... english for some reason.....

while most siblings can be The Same as their other siblings, i do think ike would be like.. a little hamster...... id ont know why. he's such a little hammy to me.

speaking of fear, i think ragatha is the type to seize up before running away. not screaming, but definitely getting a little incoherent as she begs you to go capture the damn thing

this post is going to be about the fandom in general the whiteknighters the critters and kc so this will be a longer post from me broskis so in any fandom theres a bunch of ways to enjoy a medium however theres been an increase in vitriolic behaviors towards kc and her person i personally may not agree with kc nor her behaviors but more recently posts directly digging on her and proclaiming her nonsensical things have become more popular which is disturbing to see as not only are these posts hurtful but also creates and breeds ill-will for a mostly well meaning person who may incidentally be ignorant if you spot ignorance from kc the best way to deal with it isnt insulting squeaks character nor harassing and sending death threats more often than not talking to her or making a post about it to spread awareness is fine now all of this isnt to say that kc isnt without flaw nor is her comic claims of kc scamming being one flaw of the creator but the second you come to your sparklecrit blog and start insulting and attacking kc and using your audience to turn against her and then use the mask of 'criticism' thats not cool sparklecriticism should be about the comic not the creator not the fandom the comic which is a massive difference and while yes I am technically hopping on my sparklecrit account it is tagged with fandom criticism not sparklecriticism as this is by no means about the comic plus misusing the platform to harass and attack creators is generally not cool either and by slapping 'oh its sparklecriticism' your smearing the name upon those who mean genuine good will and not saying you have to suck up to or adore kc youre allowed to dislike her but if you dont like her simply dont talk to or interact with her as long as she isnt actively harming people or breaking the law bun should be allowed to be given space and not hated to her face however ever defending or arguing to not harass kc can be called a dick rider by some of the (more extreme) crit community because to some of these folks kc is irredeemable and deserves harm if you think kc or someone who mildly displeases you deserves harm torment or extended pain please step away and re evaluate as that thought process is not healthy for you or those around you now earlier i mentioned whiteknights and kc which is now what i will be digging upon now whiteknighters are a whole other can of worms they assume anyone with criticisms are to attack and harass kc they assumethat every glance is to harm someone in reality criticizing is a form of adoration for a medium as these folks feel so much passion and so much love for this project which takes time and effort to build and make it shows that there is so much love that someone can feel actual pain when they believe a character or scene is miscahracterized but whiteknighters have a very black and white view they give no room for sparklecritters to breathe nor say their piece and take every phrase and word as pure evil incarnate whilst on the other end these same whiteknighters will see kc and defend fen with tooth and nail any wrongdoing or miscommunication or harm is perfectly fine and surely the others blowing it out of proportions which isnt healthy either as we are all human and have flaws and to think one human is above the rest for any reason is obsessive to praise one and say that any mistake was merely an accident and does not need to apologize is lethal self adoration and praise will just lead to a point where others will be shoved away and silenced unless they do the utmost to praise at all moments being a complete opposite of the criticism side this post is more about how both sides can have some really strong extremists as most fans are chill and are willing to talk and not rely on mindless insults and harassment but it hurts to see anyone on either side turn to the extreme views a fandom is about building companionship over a shared interest not tearing one another down for the sake of it -uni

(especially in that one episode where silver & candle interrogate nickel about baseball. no suitcase mention?? huh???) but it was cool to see their journey! the buddy-buddy thing seemed weird throughout earlier episodes because in s2 balloon and nickel kinda hated each other's guts so i'm glad that was covered in a later episode and that their friendship was actually solidified. BUT that doesn't leave nickel off the hook if he dont march his ass up to suitcase and say sorry the minute they go back to season 2 i'm gonna have a WORD with that boy

hi i dont have a request or anything but we're a recently discovered system of ALL canines and we thought we were alone in this!! we've tried sooo hard to find resources on nonhuman alters(parts? sorry i dont know the terms yet!!), let alone all/mostly nonhuman sytems, and basically all that turns up is the typical "its a metaphor for their trauma" thing which feels so isolating (the implication that nonhuman parts are extremely rare and it's seemingly impossible for all-nonhumans) i dont know we're all just wagging at you through the internet i guess, how cool to see another nonhuman [heavy] system ♡♡

i think there’s probably lots of us out there (nonhuman heavy systems, that is!). it’s true for our system, some of our parts’ nonhuman identities are based in trauma. however, that’s really not the case for most of us! lots of us just don’t feel human, or feel human but feel more dog or badger or dragon or some other critter than we feel human. some of us are kin, some of us are therians, and even the “human” members of our system are more humanoid without being actually humans… there’s literally so much diversity even in our own system, heh.

but we love alterhumanity! we love those who don’t identify as humans! you can be in a human body, exist in a human society, surround yourself with humans and form genuine connections with them while also not being a human yourself! life is so messy and complex, and for us personally, life is just fuller, richer, and more interesting as nonhumans than it would be otherwise.

The therian community has a problem with how they react to people not phrasing things to the exact. A critter could say something slightly off and someone will send a paragraph on why they need to “educate” themselves and how theyre “spreading misinformation.”

Like yeah, i get it, someones message may lead a different interpretation which strays from the truth. But like- is it necessary to spam with how wrong and horrible they are for just not being hyper-specific??

I feel as if this community is so scared of misinformation that they’ll go to the extremes to keep it away, even if that means getting angry at things that aren’t actually misinformation.

Dunno if this makes sense, but i keep thinking of the times folks have gotten angry with me for me not phrasing thing super specifically. which lead to them misinterpreting what i meant and then getting angry at me for their conclusion.

OOOH okay SO theres this book called Just Ash by Sol Santana, and the main character is intersex!! ive only ever once seen an intersex character in a piece of media, and that was 7 years ago. Just Ash kinda details the struggles that some intersex people can go through, and i learned a lot because of it (i didnt even know that salt wasting was a thing before reading this book). I’m not gonna lie- I don’t super know what this song means, and neither would Guy. I do know that it’s fun, it’s a love song, it’s indie rock, and it’s a classic. This strikes me as the type of song that Guy knows all the words and can perform without a second thought, thus he loves turning it up and singing it at you whenever it comes on in the car.

So, this marks Day Five of our little game. Today's post will be a bit on the shorter end, because I most unluckily need to be at work way too damn early. Might come back to add a few additional impressions, might not.

Anyway, tonight gave me genuinely more joy than Hell on Earth. The first of our unnumbered sequels, Hellraiser Bloodline.

So this one is mostly focused on the origin of the Lemarchand Box and tracks three different different time periods of association. We see for the first time the appearance of box creator, Philip Lemarchand. I'm not saying the film's portrayal of the man conflicts with the scant information presented in Hellbound Heart, I'm just saying that I suspect Barker imagined a bit more of a John Dee occultist type figure who also dabbled as a toy maker than the version here.

This marks the appearance of Angelique, whom I hope to see more of. I'm a bit annoyed with the whole "princess" thing, but that's because we seem to once again be forgetting about Leviathan, Lord of the Labyrinth and I very much would like to see Leviathan, Lord of the Labyrinth make another appearance before the fucking Hulu movie. Kay? Kay.

Flash to cursed descendent John Merchant who plays the role of discount Ivo Shandor. There's some cool stuff here, but I think the primary takeaway from any of the "present day" scenes is that... HOLY SHIT! THAT'S THE KID FROM THE SHINING (the mini-series)!!

The two security guards, well, their scene was fun. Their brutal disfigurement would have made John Kramer proud: can I see that enacted in a Saw movie? Please? Their post-Cenobitical forme is also cool, and contributes to a fairly amusing kill.

Star of the show, of course, is the Xenomorph Dog Expy, the nail-headed Hell Priest's pet, the Chattering Beast! I love this thing! It's such a fun design, even if I absolutely have to accept that its existence doesn't exactly make the most sense. No cares given- I am a simple beast: I see demonic doggo, I like.

The main framing device is that the Lemarchand history is told by a future year 21XY (because I didn't bother to care what the actual given year was) descendent, whose purpose is to close the gates to hell opened by the original Lemarchand Box.

Question: how does everyone in these films correctly deduce that the Lemarchand Box is in fact capable of acting as a Cenobite Storage Cube? Why is the Lemarchand Box a fucking PokéBall?? It's NOT a storage unit, it's a fucking key! Can one of these sequels get this right, please??

So, in the year 2525 (resist, I cannot), I'm forced to compare this movie to Critters 4 (fun fact, Critters 3 is the proud owner of the "Introducing Leonardo Dicaprio" credit), this is not a good thing. I'm also forced to compare it to Event Horizon, which is a very good thing. I'm a sucker for space horror; it's one of my guilty pleasures.

This really feels like there are ideas that could work, very well, but their execution is poor. Unlike Hell on Earth, I feel like there was an effort to make a damn weird movie. I certainly didn't have Hellraiser in Space on my bingo card, not this early in the series.

I think there's so many things this movie was just not long enough to explore as well as it could. I might do a bit of digging and see if perhaps there are any deleted scenes available. If I can find the screenplay, I'm sure it will flesh out some of the weaker elements here.

This isn't quite as top-notch as the first two (general rule, for any franchise: sequels always suck- yes, there are exceptions, but on principle, a series which runs more than three films will usually be garbage very quickly), but it was at the very least, enjoyable. Next up, Inferno, which I'm guessing will once again deny me an appearance of Leviathan, Lord of the Labyrinth.

firstly. I softblock inactive and archived blogs. I think that's chill. but I also always say I'm doing that, so in the event I accidentally softblock someone I didn't mean to and they check my blog like ??? they'll see that post and be like ah okay, it was a mistake.

now. for the love of fuck, why do people say they softblock when unfollowing folks in their rules but also state they do not want to be contacted if they unfollow you ? this is why I have anxiety. like, if you're gonna get offended every time someone messages you to make sure it wasn't an accident or glitch just block people.

and yeah, that is probably where 90% of my anxiety comes from, and why I struggle to reach out to people. because me, popping into someones DMs to make sure it wasn't a mistake gave them the ick and they decide to vague about me or block me anyway. grow the fuck up. and stop assuming the worst about people !

because you know what ? your self-righteous "ew don't talk to me after cutting you off" like tumblr isn't a glitching hellsite / mobile tumblr isn't an accidental thumb-swish away from deleting your blog is not friendly to your neurodivergent followers who struggle to understand situations and approach people.
