Notable Slenderman designs from over the years

Something Awful: As the users of the original Create Paranormal Images thread took to calling him, "Poo Poo", the first Slendy on this list is sort of a composite variant of his first depictions. After Victor Surge had made "the Slender Man" people started creating their own photos and a couple even drew him. Designs varied, but many featured arms that turned into tentacles or tree branches, and blank faces with either few or very pronounced facial features. These first drawings gave me the impression that Slendy was a creature that attempted to blend in and look human, but if examined its nonhuman aspects would become apparent almost immediately, empty face notwithstanding. As such, while his suit gives the impression of a well-dressed man, if one looks at it from a small distance they'll note the lack of buttons, pockets and other such accessories, so in a way the suit is like a second skin as opposed to actual clothes. Merely a disguise.

Marble Hornets: The Operator! Version that got many people into the Slenderman mythos, the Marble Hornets rendition streamlined the many variations of the Something Awful forum into a simple yet iconic design. This guy is very tall, and makes it clear that he's the furthest thing from human. Proportion-wise, his torso is not even half of his total height, while his arms almost reach the ground. Weirdly enough, his hands don't seem to have fingers? And look to be morphed into the suit, though they could be wearing fingerless gloves. He has a straight upper body and shoulders, and in most entries has barely if any shadows on his face to enunciate human features. As in, most of the time his face is completely blank, although there are entries where you can spot the outlines of a nose, mouth and eye sockets.

TribeTwelve: To me, the Administrator is a more grounded (heh) Slenderman. If you ignore the times he's shown to tower over humans, this guy, while tall, isn't abnormally long. He even has human-looking skin and visible eye sockets! With regular proportions for a Slenderman depiction, he's pretty tame in appearance when he doesn't have his tentacles or spider legs out. So really, he's just a regular man in black with no face, which makes him a bit more believable but still creepy as all hell.

DarkHarvest00: Gorr'rylaehotep! This dude's like a streamlined version of the Marble Hornets Operator, which was himself a streamlined Slendy. He's like an expected evolution of a live action Slenderman, where his body isn't elongated so much as it's scaled up for him to appear larger. That said, he's in no way thick, being quite thin for a big guy in a business suit. Luckily, that doesn't take away from his scare factor, as he's remains an imposing figure throughout the series... In the shots where he doesn't move too much, that is… Having fewer overall appearances in DarkHarvest00, he's also the most consistent Slendy on this list to keep a totally blank face with no features. Neato!

Slender: the Arrival: This guy isn't slender. Like, at all. He's well-built for a Slenderman and, dare I say, kind of muscular-looking. If you shorten his arms, he's just a big human, but I think that strengthens the unease you have when you see him. The others, aside from the TribeTwelve design, don't really hide their uncannyness. Once you’ve spotted them, you know there's something wrong when you look at them. The Arrival Slenderman takes it a step further. He gets all up in your face, not even stalking you all that much. He almost refuses to blend into the background, opting to terrorize you up close. He doesn't obscure the fact that he's an otherworldy entity that shouldn't exist, and I think that's great. His ragged skin and ears melted into his skull offer him an incredibly distinct look, and given how well the game uses him, he's super scary to play against. He's also among the first Slendermen to feature a red tie, which will go on to be a very popular design choice when depicting this character.

The ways people chose to draw/show/model Slendy have always intrigued me, so I made this lil thing to show off the differences in a few designs over the past decade! I hope you've enjoyed reading through this, and I'll see you next time when I'll draw and analyse five more. Have a good day!

well it's simple really. a proxy is someone who follows slenderman, right? whether by choice, or by being brainwashed into it. if i remember it right, anyways. tim and brian very clearly do not follow or align with the operator in marble hornets, and are in fact mere victims of it who are trying to stop someone who is much more in line with a classical idea of a proxy: alex kralie.

now, i wouldn't necessarily call alex a "proxy" either, since proxy to me is more of a creepypasta term, but... he fits the definition much more. though even that is kinda dubious. idk if the operator is actually controlling him, or if he's just obsessed with killing everyone as some kind of mercy to STOP the operator. maybe both... that aspect of his character was never perfectly clear to me, and maybe it wasn't meant to be. either way though, alex isn't just like, some guy who loves the operator and is his buddy. in the wise words of joseph delage himself, alex was a victim. i think all "proxies" or proxy-adjacent folks would be

if i had to think of any slenderverse depiction that to ME is closest to how i'd see a proxy, it'd be the collective for sure. they're like, a weird hivemind who follow the administrator (tribetwelve's term for slenderman), and have a very difficult time breaking away from it. even if they wanted to, if they tried they'd almost certainly die. i think the observer once said he stays in the collective out of fear (?) which i found interesting. they're almost like the administrator's arms, doing its dirty work and communicating more clearly to noah than it could itself as its little hivemind underlings. the collective is very proxy-like to me from what i remember of proxies....

but basically yeah. fandom masky and hoody are proxies obviously, but the original guys that they're based on aren't. i think people just thought they were early into the series, developed a creepypasta spin-off of them, and at this point are pretty much entirely separate characters, even down to appearance besides the masks themselves

Life With Noah | Running in Circles

What's with Slenderverse fans only knowing how to do two things? It's either rip something off and do nothing new or interesting, or trying to reboot a pedophile's magnum opus... and do nothing new or interesting.

Life With Noah is yet another TribeTwelve reboot, among a sea of failed TribeTwelve reboots. Yawn.

The trailer doesn't give me any hope. I mean, it's a bunch of pedo-dickriders yearning for the return of an overhyped-fetish-filled-Slenderverse series which relies on its editing instead of putting any actual effort into its writing. Reminds me of a lot of new gen stuff... interesting...

The first video, Exposition, is nothing. It's what I expect every video to be. Some guy running around his backyard with a bunch of needless filters and loud noises. Oh no! a shitty Slender Man png! Run!!!

It's what every new gen series consists of, and what the boardwalk videos of TribeTwelve were like. Uninteresting(and irritating) filler pretending it's gonna be something great.

No one wants this. Adam's victims don't want this. It's actually pretty easy to not glorify a pedophile!

I know I trash on new gen, but at least they think they're trying something new. Even if it's bad, I'd prefer someone try to be original over beating a dead horse.

It's kind of like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts(2023). It doesn't want to do anything new, and would rather stay in its Bayverse bubble, where it can do nothing fun or interesting and live in the past.

I'm working my way through some playlists I've had saved for a while as i work on my cross stitch and started with the slenderverse channels i've been meaning to watch since re-watched Marble Hornets with my roommate. At this point i'm dropping TribeTwelve, tho. I've made it almost halfway through the series and honestly it's boring, nobody in it can act, and it's a little... overproduced? It clearly takes a lot of influence from Marble Hornets but it's trying wayyyy harder and it's not really paying off. Marble Hornets may have dragged a little at times but it felt like kinda natural drag that would happen for a project like this and lent more to its authenticity (insofar as something of its ilk can be 'authentic'). TribeTwelve is *just* boring. It doesn't really drag but it's not all that enticing, either, and I do think a good chunk of the fault lies with the fact that the acting is pretty bad. It feels like bad improv at best and really shit scripting at worst. It's all in on the effects and 'props' like audio clips and pics and videos but it misses the mark completely on that facet Marble Hornets had in that the actors were really fucking going for it.

I guess i'm kinda surprised this one is so popular despite all this. The story's not really engaging enough to keep me invested. I'm hoping EveryManHybrid is better, or I'll just move on to my video essay backlog

I can't imagine what they had to do to be turned into a bottom feeder for a eldrich God. They get toyed with by Ben which somewhat implies slenderman is alright with it.

I understand why the proxies don't exactly have any sympathy but its kinda poetic that them being predators are still consumed by something greater if they fail.

To answer what they did: Nothing. They didn't do anything to earn that form. It's an accident.

Hydra is actually a child like they are- in fact, they're the child that set the events of TribeTwelve into action. The one that's murdered, causing Slenderman to attack the Nazi soldiers (who in my fic was either Swain or Deathshead).

That's what he ended up doing with the kid. He tried to bring them back to life, but he failed and made The Hydra. From there, however, he was able to learn how human DNA reacts to him, and created everyone else based on what he learned- Nurse Ann, Clara, The Doll, and The Proxies. The Hydra is a The Operator's first failure, doomed to consume all his other failures.

So.. Pirate!Kevin is a siren...Feel free to ignore this ask due to it being tribetwelve based but what exactly is the collective? my current theory is a bunch of sea creatures and sailors that either worship the kraken or are just under it's command for other reasons, I also really want Milo lore. I had a silly little mermaid au once and our idea was that the Asher bloodline is somehow cursed by the au's version of slender or something like that, that might also work here.. maybe Robert is either a sailor that mysteriously sailed away and never returned or unbeknonwst to Milo some sort of magical creature that also mysteriously disappeared and Milo's main driving force pre death is to figure out what happened and reunite with him.

My thoughts on Milo (Though I don't know a whole lot about tribetwelve so most likely this is VERY deviated lmaoo) are that she and her dad (im assuming robert is her dad LMAO) were seperated from when Milo was pretty young and she managed to go most of her life living with her mom without knowing he was a pirate (and apart of Davies crew)

Her best friend was a sailor named Kevin (later to be killed by the siren observer) and after he went missing she went on a bit of a spiral, left Mary to search for him and along the way got caught up in a storm involving the flying dutchman and she died and joined the crew (Effectively becoming a weird fucked up ghost pirate version of scars)

For T12, there is a thing called the collective, which Observer and Firebrand are a part of, HABIT is his own entity and stated somewhere that he can do whatever he wants LMAO

Both Observer (Obs ((tribetwelve))) and HABIT (Hab((everymanHYBRID))) are basically like entities (Theres another word but I forgot </3) taking over people's bodies. Hab is using Evan Myers' vessel to terrorize and eliminate his friends (Vinnie, Jeff and others) He doesn't have a canon/true form, as he might just be some spirit-esque thing with no features!

Along with Obs, (and the rest of the collective, but theyre different and its CONFUSING.) he's overtaking Kevin Haas' vessel to terrorize Noah Maxwell </3

Now with Firebrand it's a little complicated, so I'll try to explain it as simple as possible!! So basically, Firebrand is Noah Maxwell from either the future or an alternate universe. (T12 wasn't finished because Adam Rosner is a piece of doodoo) In a universe/future where Noah Maxwell submits and/or gets himself taken into the collective (Again, it wasn't explained)

The Asher Family (TW: TribeTwelve)

Ok, long post, I'm gonna talk a lot. scroll on by or just skim for art if you do not care. Second, TribeTwelve post. TW for that. Lastly, I want to say that this post is a character analysis/my opinions on the Ssher family (Milo, Mary and Robert) so this kind of thing is gonna get gross in subject matter. TW for talks of abuse (specifically marital abuse and child abuse), cults (fictional), drugging, suicide, self harm, and a potential plethora of other topics. tread lightly.

Ok, now that that's out of the way, hello! This is just me babbling about underrated characters and giving hot takes that may cause debate or not, we'll see. It's also me showing off the designs I did for each of these bastards. VERY self indulgent, just something I wanted to make. If this post does well, I may do a post on Noah (or rather, the Noahs, plural) because I have a lot to say on him as well. I don't know how to cleverly segue this.

Milo Asher / Mr. Scars

I feel like it's important to start with Milo, half so that people can decide if I'm insane a quarter way through these paragraphs and either keep reading or scroll, and half because a lot of Mary and Robert's notes are going to elaborate on Milo since everything in TribeTwelve is tightly linked together.

From a writing perspective, Milo is one of, if not the character in TribeTwelve with the most depth. We get an almost whole life read on him and we see the trauma that made him the person he is and what lead to his suicide. However, what is interesting about the journal is the Noah notes, and moreso, how dismissive Noah is.

Something Adam does in his writing that I'm not a huge fan of is explain away all potential mental illness Milo and Noah certainly have and goes "It's from slenderman!! Collective influence!!" when a lot of it is much more nuanced. Milo at the least has PTSD and anxiety, and that's the least. Given the childhood trauma of being thrown into cults as a worshipped being, or given the drugging, or being beat as a kid and watching his mother get beat, he definitely has something wrong, whether or not it wants to be admitted.

Milo being "completely fine" despite overdosing on anti depressants and consistently shown with fresh SH scars feels like this weird glorification of mental illness.

But with that amount of trauma and horrific occurrences, something that is not exemplified enough, is Milo never fully heals from this trauma. He instead internalizes it (which, within his scenario, is his only choice) with no outlet, which makes his moral compass towards the end of Milo's Journal very interesting to say the least.

Milo Asher is absolutely a morally grey character. However, being from Noah's perspective the whole story (to the point where all the Milo centric content is literally annotated by Noah with his own thoughts on the matter) he is a consistently praised character. A lot of the story parades that Milo has done no wrong, simply because he's troubled and traumatized and Noah holds him dear. However, I feel like the entries "Mockingbird" and "Institute" are perfect examples of how unhealed trauma manifests unhealthily.

While many may argue Mary deserved every bit of what happened to her, which, in some ways she did, I think the best way to see everything is to pretend Noah Maxwell isn't there. Which sounds weird, but try to read everything wholly unbiased. In Institute especially it feels almost dirty the way its written, all of Milo's words are covered in this grime he has no guilt for. Did Mary deserve it? Yes, kinda, we get more into Mary later. Is it alarming how Milo had no regard for his or her safety, ruined a marriage, grinned as his mother got hit and swore at by his step father, and then beat the shit out of her and went "Well, she deserved it, so.."? Absolutely, it's very alarming. And, because of the fact everything is from Noah's perspective, not only canon but Tribetwelve's active fanbase puts Milo on this weird pedestal of martyr, how he can do virtually no wrong. I don't know, I'd love to see more of Milo Asher in this grim light, but not exactly demonized. But, this talk of moral greyness and unpacked trauma brings me to my next topic.

Milo's Journal almost entirely focusses on the topic of generational trauma in the Slenderverse, which I find very interesting. Within Slenderverse, there are a couple occurrences of protagonists wanting or even having kids, but often something happens that blocks them from having kids or something happens to said kid. However, Milo's Journal explores this concept of what would happen to a kid being haunted by Slenderman with a parent of the same affliction. It makes me wonder what a fully fledged Milo who ended up with a partner and kids would've been like. With none of that trauma unpacked and all choked down, would he end up just like Mary? Somehow better or worse? With the amount of trauma brought onto Mary (more on that later) that trickles onto Milo, it makes some very interesting writing.

Really quick I want to talk about Mr. Scars, just as a character, and how much wasted potential he is. I genuinely wish he had one of two routes, he either was a full and complete villain, creating this psychological horror by being haunted of a lost loved one who literally wants you dead, or for him to be a villain for Mary when she was younger. The villain for Mary route is interesting because it explains why she so desperately wanted to know who Mr. Scars is while also keeping up this theme of generational trauma. I feel like so much potential for both Mr. Scars and Milo is completely unused, and honestly, same goes for the rest of the Ashers.

Do what you will with my thoughts, have the design I did for Milo. I think I didn't do half bad. Tumblr MURDERED my quality, hopefully clicking on it will do it better.

Mary Asher/Cursor

Alright, this is deep shit now, and mostly speculation. Most of my writing from here on out will be VERY reliant on some of the old Milo's Journal and Sebastian's Journal leaks. You can find those here. (Yes, it's a download. It's a PDF file.) You don't need to read them to enjoy this post, but it's good for if you want a source on a lot of my opinions on Mary and Robert.

Actually into the bullshit now, I want to start by saying I do not think ANYTHING Mary did was okay, and almost everything she did was volatile and inexcusable. Holy fucking shit she's an underrated villain. And so many people brush her off and go "She was mean to Milo, she's the worst!" in the same breath as sucking HABITs toes, so I feel like it's only fair to give her a chance.

She, unlike a lot of the villains in TribeTwelve, has motive. From what we know about the journal Mary kept herself, she went through some TOUGH shit. A lot of her actions can be seen as preventative measures in her mind, a lot of it probably felt like simple protection to her. This does not make her actions valid, of course, but she probably was going through logical steps in her mind, especially since at the same time she was manipulated by a cult.

Need to sacrifice someone and the cult demands it? Have a kid! Kid's experiencing inexplicable paranormal activity that aligns with a cult messiah? He must be special, take him to meetings. Kid exhibiting disturbing behavior she had when she was a kid and at the same time the cult conveniently has pills to help it? It's natural, Milo needed to be protected.

My point is, a lot of her logic is there, even it doesn't track to most. And of course just because there's logic doesn't make it right, I just wish people thought on Mary more. Saw her as more of an interesting villain, y'know? Thought of her with more dimension past cruel and abusive.

I also forget to note, just putting it as a one off note, she was abused by pretty much all of her partners in some way with exception of Robert and John, or what we know of them. It doesn't connect to anything, just wanted to say it before I call it quits on the rant yada yada here's Mary. Quality got eaten.

Robert Asher / Scriniarii

I love Robert Asher as a character despite the fact we know NOTHING about him, and the fact we don't is a literal crime because what we know is so intriguing.

First, we know that Scriniarii is in his archival position without want, when he joins the TribeTwelve discord and nobody is helping him he exclaims "LOOK I DONT WANT TO DO THIS FUCKING JOB. I DID NOT ASK FOR THIS SHIT!" So, Firebrand or someone else forced him into this position. This doesn't help that he mentions he'll be "punished" by Firebrand for talking out of term. Here's the screenshot in question.

Second, we have no idea if Scriniarii is just a pen name or Robert ascended. Whether or not he is a collective member is very ambiguous. It's heavily implied he's ascended and outside the loop but still he could be some guy also.

Third, we know Robert is in the Order. In a screenshot I sadly do not have, he talks about how the order took his family and ruined his life. It is further confirmed in Wizards, when it says "I asked mommy why we have to go to two churches now and she says it’s to get closer to Daddy and closer to God."

All of this information together is so interesting. Did him and Mary meet through the order? (Update, apologies on misinfo for that question in specific, we have canon confirmation they did not and met beforehand) If so, was he on board with the child sacrifice? What about his command under Firebrand, how is he "punished" and how much control does Firebrand have over him? For those who were not part of the TTD while it was running and really wanna know more, The SCRINIARII Code is super useful for a good summary. I swear I had a good archive of the discord screenshots but apparently I don't, so thats the best you get.

Congrats! You got so far into the bullshit you get the final piece of art. Quality looks like he got chewed up and spat out.

Hey perhaps for someone trying to get in to more creepy pastas what’s your reading/media list?

my advice to everyone trying to get into classic creepypasta is to start with the major icons first, in whatever order you'd like. stories like ben drowned, ticci toby and jeff the killer are definitely where you'd want to start. with a solid foundation you can work yourself down to ARGs that require more time devotion and focus like marble hornets and behavioral event network (BEN revamp) and fanworks like pastamonsters, ask-blogs, story rewrites and other things that have impacted the community. pace yourself and don't rush, because theres so much media to consume!!

Happy Appy and Offenderman are also two characters you can sometimes see floating around but both are absolutely horrific. Happy Appy contains CSA, paraphilia, general child abuse and ends with a 9/11 joke and tries to be as edgy as humanly possible whereas Offenderman was created as a joke and is a character who sexually abuses animals, children, women and his 'brothers'. I'd highly recommend you don't look into either.

“How long?”

“What?”

“How long are we going to keep doing this?” It’s not in your nature to sound so accusatory with such a simply question, but it’s not. This isn’t a simple question. There isn’t a simple answer and you aren’t expecting one.

You sound accusatory and possibly scared because this has gone too far.

You shift in your seat, the car’s upholstery feeing somewhat scratchy under your fingertips as you grasp the fabric. Despite your movements, Jay refused to turn towards you, choosing instead to rip into his second bag of chips. As you watched, Jay rooted around the bag, seemingly choosing one of the bigger chips before he handed it to you.

“I don’t want it.” Pushing the chip away from you, you leveled a glare at Jay. “Jay, we need to talk.”

“Aren’t we doing that now?” He pressed the chip against your lips, refusing your growls for him to stop. It wasn’t until you finally started chewing on the offending piece of junk food that he began speaking again.

“I know that you’re worried, but—”

“Jessica’s dead, Jay. We’ve got to stop.” You tried to sound strong, but for all of your courage and honesty, you ended up sounding like a lost child. After you had spent months with Jessica and Jay roaming around city after city trying to run away from that thing and losing your memories, enough was enough.

Jessica was gone and there was no hope that she would come back.

For some odd reason, however, Jay didn’t respect your desire to leave the investigation. He said that you were in too deep, that it was too late to turn back now.

After deciphering the cryptic messages from ToTheArk and all the hard work put into watching tapes, why should you go back to normality? There was no normal anymore.

You had to keep going, he claimed.

But you knew better. You knew that Jay was keeping you around for reasons that you could not hope to comprehend.

You noticed that Jay’s hand gripped his bag of chips a bit too tightly, the plastic crumbling. For a moment, you worried for the bag’s contents, but ultimately decided that it wasn’t worth your time. If anything, you should be putting more of your time and effort into leaving.

Finally, he said, “You don’t know that. Jessica…” His voice broke, but you were far from sympathetic.

At this point, you’ve practically had the same conversation several times over. This time, you weren’t going to be so easily convinced to stay.

“She’s gone then.” It hurt you to say it so callously, but you couldn’t keep running after ghosts. How much time have you lost because of running after mounters, of watching tapes that had to be watched and rewound again and again in the hopes that there was a clue? “Dead. Gone. Disappeared. Left. It doesn’t matter. Jessica isn’t here and I don’t want to be here either.”

You unbuckled your seat and grasped the car’s handle, ready to leave.

“You can keep searching,” you offered in the drawn out silence after your last confession. “I won’t stop you, but I’m not going to help you. Not anymore.”

You turned once more to the door.

And perhaps that was your mistake.

Throughout your time on the road with Jay, you knew that he was smart and clever. Sure, he had his moments where he could be naive (and was particularly obtuse during social interactions), but there were moments where you knew he could handle his own.

What you didn’t realize was that he could also handle you.

The instant your fingers brushed against the handle, you felt strong hands grasp your neck, the grip bruising and merciless. Instinct overtaking your actions, you had no room to be confused. Immediately, you fought back, nails scratching at anything you could grab, your voice pleading for him to think things through.

However, the human body has its limits.

Before you knew it, your vision blurred until you faded to black.
