"c'mere. 'ave a seat," he pats his left leg as he says so, his right extended and placed on the only other chair you own.

Nicholas followed the man, eyes looking flat behind his shades. He moved with the large bundled up cross, following the elder. The wolf ducked under the branches, eyes trailing to sweep the area.

"Yeah, you and the last ten people I helped said the same thing." The voice is rough, clearly used heavily in the last twenty four hours, perhaps a lot of yelling, it was hard to tell.

Charcoal eyes watched the blonde, eyeing his thin, frail looking frame. He's been surprised by unsuspecting frames most of his life. The twin he knew regularly shattered his limbs, Meryl packed quite a punch, there was Elendira, a child that could pin you up like an insect at a museum...

"Look. They paid me to help people out. They looked at you and said you were next on my list. I'm just here as support to make sure you get home alive. If I'm not needed, I won't step in, deal?" He watched the way the man moved, a touch of a shamble, yet he's moving quite clear, with purpose.

He's lived a life of fighting, probably. Definitely not like Nicholas, but certainly holds an air of 'I know what I'm doing', one that isn't the arrogance of an elder, but rather a man who truly knows. Maybe he's making wild guesses, but something about the man, the way he speaks commands authority.

Nicholas hates it.

"I'm not paying your medical bill. I'll only step in if you look like you're gonna die. Outside that, this is all on you, pops." He slips a cigarette between his lips, lighting it lazily as he looks around, still in awe of snow.

Sure, there were plenty of other things he had could have decided to do... but, quite simply, this had seemed rather fun. Although he had found himself with a companion - not that he minded much.

Its really interesting that Jimmy’s chair is the one tilted away from the screen in this shot:

It’s indicative of how his and Jimmy’s dynamic was. He’s not staring ahead at the screen, he’s not paying attention to what they are doing. Curly is the only one looking forward. Jimmy quite literally couldn’t see the responsibility Curly had or was doing. Jimmy likely slacked off and avoided most of his duties. I mean the one time we know he pilots the Tulpar he steers it wrong and loses the team 4000 credits. Even in the positions they held objectively, Curly was always taking responsibility for Jimmy. Not to mention the “We can fix this” and only one chair at attention. Jimmy never had intentions to fix anything, throughout the game, throughout his entire relationship with Curly. Curly always fixed it? Why would it be any different here?

If he even took the slightest bit of responsibility, he would’ve stayed in the cockpit to see his plan through. In the end Curly did what Jimmy always expected him to do for him and took responsibility. Did what he always did and took responsibility at the wrong time…

The thing that stands out the most to me about Stage of Betrayal is the fact that Rei proves himself completely incapable of envisioning a world in which Hiro would ever willingly leave him behind. Hiro killed himself because Rye made him, because Rye gave him his own gun and forced him to shoot.

To me, the kicker isn't that Rei is actually wrong about this (even strategically speaking, killing himself and destroying all connections to his loved ones was objectively a good move on Hiro's part, and not at all unreasonable nor unheard of considering his job and circumstances), but how he's so deep in denial that he just can't see what happened through any other lenses.

He ignores any and all inconsistencies within his deduction because to acknowledge them would mean he'd have to take into consideration the idea that Hiro immediately chose to kill himself as option number one instead of trying to survive until they could at least attempt an extraction, which feels an awful lot like abandonment. It feels like Hiro put the mission and secrecy above everything else, even Rei (which we know isn't true. Hiro killed himself because he loved the people close to him more than anything and he wanted to keep them safe— which, if you spend more than ten seconds thinking about the scenario, becomes immediately obvious as the motivation behind his suicide).

Hiro killed himself because he was terrified he'd be forced to drag Rei into the line of fire. He did that out of love, without thinking, while Rei can't even consider that as an option because they have fundamentally different ways of thinking and to him it would mean that Hiro didn't care enough to stay alive.

And Rei, being an extremely emotional person, wouldn't handle that well at all— which only leaves him the option of denial (be it subconscious or not).
