~ and if I can dissolve I do ~
(hanahaki au below the cut)
AU where Peeta develops the hanahaki disease during Catching Fire and the only people that understand the significance of it are Mrs Everdeen and Haymitch, both of which he swears to secrecy since he's going to die in the arena anyway. Snow also recognises the symptoms (rumour has it he underwent surgery shortly after his time in D12) when Peeta is unable to hide it from the cameras during the Quell. The flowers are removed as part of the hijacking process, but whether it was successful or not is uncertain - dandelions are a stubborn weed after all, and their roots grow deep.
#i think hanahaki is a nice fit for peeta's character#although it's pretty obvious how much he cares for katniss#his own feelings and desires take a backseat unless he can exploit them for her survival#his existence is very much 'keep her safe give her what she needs don't ask for anything you don't deserve it you're not worthy of love'#and it all keeps building inside him during the victory tour until he just#vomits flowers everywhere#and then probably feels bad for making a mess#lyrics are from nine lives by odie leigh#the hunger games#peeta mellark#everlark#fanart#mcbaart

Imagine looking at a character whose entire premise is that in every stage of his life, he's made every version of himself into someone that inspires people to such a degree that EVERY SINGLE VERSION OF HIM has people wanting to literally follow in his footsteps in some way or another.....
And coming to the conclusion that like.....the most important things about him are the sum of all his trappings. His entirely homemade developed from scratch could not exist if not for what he already was and brought with him BEFORE crafting this newest version of himself trappings, with his greatest trait throughout all of it being his adaptability; his ability and willingness to roll with the punches and not try to simply weather any opposition or changes to his life but instead reshape himself as needed to better fit INTO whatever new shape his life and the world around him takes. All while managing to carry the most innate, fundamental and necessary aspects of himself from one version to the next. Thus every single version of himself is different but simultaneously every single version of himself is also undeniably the same person.
The strength of this character, to me, will always be that he can be so many versions of himself, he can become so many things, all without ever actually losing or discarding any of the aspects of himself he considers most essential, the things he's not willing to lose or give up just to keep going. Finding that road not taken by most, usually because most never even think to look for it as an option. But one that he's always able to find because the one trick he's mastered in his tumultuous life is threading that needle of not just digging in his heels in an unproductive way but rather being selective about when and where he makes a stand and decides "this is not a thing I'm willing to compromise about" but here are places and ways I can and will change and evolve and adapt in order to make it possible for me to hold onto these parts and keep them as they are.
And that's why its always so mind-boggling to me that so many writers can't seem to think of anything else to do with Dick Grayson other than invent some new reason for him to just....not be that person, or to like just take the character whose most basic fundamental trait he's NOT about to compromise on is willingly giving up his spot in the driver's seat of his own life.....and make him just a passenger in his own life and stories.
Dick Grayson at age nine....at age nineteen...at age twenty nine....the one core thread running through all versions of him is the only way he's standing back and letting you call the shots for him or putting him on the sidelines in some way is over his dead body.
HOW he goes about that, what that looks like, who he becomes and what aspects of himself he plays up at some times and what traits he lets fall by the wayside at other times when they offer less in service to his primary goal here....that changes constantly. He changes constantly.
But those changes are almost always (or at least they used to be/should be IN MY OPINION) made with the intention of keeping certain things about him or his life as consistent as possible.
That's the duality of Dick Grayson that I'm here for. The inherent contradiction of him that COULD allow for endless conflict and breaking new narrative ground in all sorts of ways if mined properly:
His eternal willingness to compromise....but only ever in pursuit of doubling down on the ways he's not willing to compromise.
Forever walking that tightrope in ways that only a kid born and raised in a circus could ever hope to.
#see also: my grinding teeth when people disparage his circus origins#like the only thing its good for is colorful backstory and explaining his acrobatics#THERES. SO. MUCH. THERE.#theres so much EVERYWHERE in every aspect of his backstory and his preexisting comics and yet over and over we get#....what if we just ignored all that and did what the fuck ever as though this character has nothing integral to him or fundamental to say#to be fair my gripes with Taylor are not exactly interchangeable with my gripes with the previous runs#but I lump him in as an extension of them because while evocative of different SIDES of my ennui with these takes on Dick.....#the thing about Taylor's stuff to me (or the parts I read at least) is that its generic as hell while only retaining superficial elements#of Dick's character and stories in order to point to them and say see these are definitely about Dick Grayson. like....only in very surface#level ways. underneath that theyre basically generic superhero adventures that could easily be retooled to be about a pretty sizable number#of other characters. tbh with the whole alfred inheritance thing it honestly felt from the get go#that Taylor was more interested in writing a kinder gentler Batman like a Bruce from one of the animated shows like#The Brave and the Bold who gets along better with everyone else. even the way the Brave and the Bold largely exists to use Batman's#popularity as a star vehicle to platform his co-superhero for the episode lends itself to Taylor's approach in his NW run#with the central figure - only nominally DG imo - basically existing as a platform allowing for the drafting of any other character he want#to write in any given arc or story in a similar way to how Bruce is utilized in Brave and the Bold#anyway. idk idk. my issues with Taylor are not the same as the others exactly but also they are and also I just plain dont like the guy#so I complain about him at any given opportunity even when its not technically as accurate or relevant as it possibly could be#I Am Flawed. its fine though dont worry about it. its called being nuanced

Quick appreciation of the slightly cursed renders in the GBA manuals for the sims: bustin’ out & the urbz.
Anyways, did you know? The handbooks for the first two handheld Sims games has some unique descriptions for many of the characters!
These are the ‘Meet Your Neighbors’ pages of of The Sims: Bustin’ Out (GBA) and The Urbz: Sims in the City (GBA & DS) in the official game manuals.
[TRANSCRIPTION UNDER CUT]
[page 1]
MEET YOUR SIMVALLEY NEIGHBORS For a small town, SimValley has a lot of colorful characters for your Sim to get acquainted with. This section gives you a peak at just a few of the people who populate your Sim’s new home town.
Dusty Hogg - This bad boy biker plays by his own rules. While rumors around town state that he still lives with his parents, we don’t recommend you tease him about that—or anything else.
Mad Willy Hurtzya - Mad Willy knows a thing or two about going 10 rounds. Quick to solve a problem by applying his fists, he's definitely more of a fighter than a lover
Eddie Renalin - Although some Sims say that Eddie used to be a skinny twerp of a kid, those allegations have never been proven. Though short on smarts, these days Eddie's the biggest and strongest guy around town.
Bucki Brock - Bucki is a straight shooter who was born and raised right in the Valley. This is one girl who knows a cow from a steer and that's no bull.
Daddy Bigbucks - Daddy is sure enough a big spender. Your Sim will want to keep on his god side a to ensure they're near the drainpipe should any of that wealth trickle down.
Det. Dan D. Mann - Detective Dan D. Mann is the police presence in SimValley. He prides himself on keeping the SimValley streets safe and boasts that jaywalking is down 25% since he took on the beat.
[page 2]
O. Phil McClean - While O. Phil McClean isn’t the friendliest fisherman your Sim will ever meet, he does know the best spots for reeling in the biggest fish. If your Sim can get to know this crusty angler, he might tell them just what he’s using for bait.
Ephram Earl - This otherworldly neighbor is very familiar with things that go bump in the night. A bit on the loony side, this ghost can still give your Sim some of the worldly belongings that he no longer needs.
Misty Waters - Misty is responsible for keeping swimming Sims from expiring in the watery deep. She prides herself on staying fit, all the better to save lives and look good in her work uniform... a swimsuit.
Chet R. Chase - No hoity-toity, fancy French cooking for Chet R. Chase. A SimValley native, Chet serves up a tasty plate o' vittles that’s pure down home cooking.
Olde Salty - Olde Salty is the SimValley fish monger. He's a grumpy old sailor so ye'd best be wary of what ye say!
Nicki Knack - This SimValley old timer has made it her business to put her nose in everyone else's. A devoted collector of this and that, Nicki really might have a use for some of the items your Sim can't use.
Uncle Hayseed - Thanks to Uncle Hayseed’s generous invitation to come and spend the summer in SimValley, your Sim has a chance to enjoy the slower-paced life of country livin’ at its finest.
[Page 3]
Giuseppi Mezzoalto - Some Sims are suspicious of this Giuseppi and think that he sometimes uses his van for moving people's things—whether he hired or not, But when it's time to relocate, his big, roomy van does the trick for toting a Sim’s possessions across town.
In addition to this cast of characters, there are many more Sims around town who can become friends, roommates, or more!
[Page 4]
Darius - King of the Streeties, Darius has moves on the court and is a straight shooter when it comes to darts. He can usually be found at his hangout, Club Xizzle. Remember to stay away from his hotdogs.
Kris Thistle - Kris Thistle is King Tower's janitor. Outgoing, with a touch of attitude, she's more at home in her darkroom than behind a mop.
Daddy Bigbucks - Sim Valley's big spender moved to Miniopolis with plans to buy the entire city! Keep your eyes and ears open—this cat is definitely up to something.
Polly Nomial - Queen of the Nerdies and Associate Professor at the university, Polly is one smart cookie. If you're lucky, she might show you her vintage dictionary collection.
Roxanna Moxie - Flamboyant and fearless, Roxanna Moxie is the Carnival ringmaster and Queen of the Artsies. Fond of the bizarre, she counts the founding of the carnival's first freak show among her greatest achievements.
Luthor L Bigbucks III - Luthor is son and heir to Daddy Bigbucks' financial empire. A jetsetter and King of the Richies, Luthor walks the walk, but didn’t quite inherit his father’s evil streak.
[Page 5]
MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS The city is full of people for your Urb to get acquainted with. This section gives you the rundown on some of the people you'll meet.
Darius - King of the Streeties, Darius can usually be found at his hangout, Club Xizzle. Remember to stay away from his corndogs.
Kris Thistle - The King Tower janitor is outgoing, with a touch of attitude. Kris is more at home in her darkroom than behind a mop.
Daddy Bigbucks - Sim Valley's big spender moved to Miniopolis with plans to buy the entire city! Keep your eyes and ears open—he's definitely up to something.
Futo Maki - This construction worker oversaw the renovation of Splicer Island before it was shut down. Maybe you can put him back to work.
Sharona Faster - Sharona had plans to operate a water taxi to Splicer Island, until Daddy Bigbucks squashed her dream.
Jack I. Deal - This big man used to work for Daddy Bigbucks himself, but now he's got different ideas on how to earn his living.
Busta Cruz - This guy is a born entertainer. He keeps the Urbz amusement levels up.
Downloads to the full manuals can be found in this archive.
#… or you can just google them. they’re pretty easy to find.#sims bustin out#sims gba#sims ds#honestly i love that they did these SO much#i did track down the NGAGE manual and the sims 2 for ds/gba (& sims 2 pets gba) and those don’t have these#(i couldn’t find the sims 2 for psp game manual for some reason?)#the NGAGE manual has a very… different render of uncle hayseed on it#anyways. The Only Tierlist that Matters(tm)
'Best in Element' this, 'Best character that'...
Here's the only thing that you need to know about Dragalia and its lore: who's the best at Alberian Chess.
A fair portion of this is both evidenced and guesswork. Evidenced guesswork? I'll just walk through my analysis for anyone going ??.
In short, I think Leonidas is the best chess player shown. Leif outright states him to be a 'particularly cunning opponent' in comparison to Chelle and Phares, whom he both considers very skilled. Leonidas is the only one to have beaten Leif.
So if 1st and 2nd are locked, I'd say it's a more blurry picture between Phares and Chelle. Chelle I put lower just for the fact she explicitly finds Alberian chess a bit 'too restrictive' in rules and thus might not be quite as studious or caring of its games, and with Phares seemingly capable of getting Leonidas heated while appearing calm himself in "A Royal Tea Party", I think he might be better by at least a little bit. We know the current Chelle vs. Leif meta is a Leif win (though starting to tax/surprise him), but alas, we've no Phares-Chelle or Phares-Leif matchup to settle the big dog league for good.
A tier brings in Regina, who is only A just because I don't have any evidence to suggest how she might stack up against our formidable S-tiers. She's also native in a different variety of Alberian Chess, which further complicates how she could adapt against the southern rules most other players use here. In her own league, who knows? She could be S.
Discount Deku-looking-creature- er, Eugene, is shown to be a very skilled player, and yet his record is 0-2 vs. Leif, Leif not feeling incredibly threatened both times, and so A he goes.
Valyx here is mostly from a lack of evidence, as we never really see him play chess to my knowledge, but Leif at least will endorse him to be a skilled player. For Leif, no.2, that counts for something, and so into A he goes. We would need more sibling match-ups to see how he stacks up against his elders.
Ilia is similarly fuzzy in exact placement but we do know that Leonidas does not feel threatened by her, implying at least some tangible gulf in talent that I think bumps her down at least one tier. That being said, he also compliments her as skilled in reading his intent in chess, which, since Leo is no.1, having good reads on him is likely a very strong point to succeeding in Alberian chess. Besides, if it's 'Alberian' chess to begin with, she very well might have only recently learned the game, as Alberia as a state only started to exist 700 years after her time. That she's this good already is impressive!
Aurien provides some distinguishment between himself and Eugene by losing against him. He's still high up because Euden is very surprised he lost, and had made it in the chess tournament far. He seems to be pretty keen on the strategic understanding of the game, as well.
Falling all the way to D, we've Pinon, who understands some of the principles of strategy, etc, but still is inclined to making big mistakes for players like Regina to exploit. Even when she tries to bring back and challenge Regina with the southern rules she's learned from her travels there, Regina can still beat her comfortably.
Euden just wanted to be in 'E' tier because of his name No, it's mostly because he only just started learning at Gala Leif time in canon. And Euden... doesn't exactly seem to have a natural gift, as, per him when learning:
Or, more eloquently,
In short, he's not quite 'moving pieces at random' F tier for a complete novice, but we just have no evidence he's grown since. He's simply too busy fighting a war and having identity crises and stopping the Halidom from being blown up for the 3rd time today to have much time to practice, either. That being said, since Leif was the one to first start instructing him, he might very well have an edge when it comes to getting better over time!
#dragalia lost#dragalia#dragalia analysis#Only the most important analyses from me!#I said I wasn't analyzing actual character ranking but it's funny Leonidas would claim a very high spot regardless.#He arguably took over flame meta as the ultimate 'you can use him everywhere' character!#I'm surprised though that Chelle never got anything truly busted. Her highlight was her fs in Gala.#The rest of her kit was terrible. But because of that tiny little thing she was pretty good!#Gala Leif was also quite powerful in his release until Gala Ranzal returned from the dead and other wind units started catching up.#Phares is... tough to analyze since the meta never really got time to fully digest him#...Especially with shinier objects Gala Emile and Valyx stealing spotlights with their powerful and unique buffs/ high damage mods but...#...I do think he was quite strong! Ailment support is no joke in wind especially for Iblis and he did great damage on top of other support.

The more I learn about Civil War politics, the more I'm convinced that Lincoln's most impressive and useful leadership trait was that he never let his pride get in the way of doing his job.
Other people in Lincoln's position would have come to Washington with something to prove. They'd have resented the insults and tried to disprove them. They'd have tried to seize power and credit, rejected help, spent a lot of time trying to reach a certain level of respect.
Lincoln's response to, "You're just a backwoods lawyer with no executive experience who makes too many dumb jokes," was pretty much always, "Yeah. And?" He had no interest in petty personal power plays. He had a country to run. There was a war on. It didn't matter what people thought of him so long as the job got done.
He was aware of his personal shortcomings and was always willing to accept advice and help from people who had more knowledge and experience in certain areas. He presided over a chaotic Cabinet full of abrasive personalities who thought they were better and smarter than him, but he kept working with them because they could get the job done. For example: Stanton was absolutely horrible to him when they were both working as lawyers. Just incredibly mean on a personal level. But when Lincoln needed someone to replace Cameron, he swallowed his pride and appointed Stanton as Secretary of War, where Stanton proceeded to be mean to everyone in the world, but he whipped that department into shape and kept it running efficiently through a very chaotic war. Pretty much no one except Lincoln would have been able to put up with that. He could put up with people who were personally difficult if they could do the job he needed them to do--which he was only able to do because his own ego didn't get in the way.
Lincoln's example is a prime demonstration of how humility isn't underrating yourself--it's being so secure in your own abilities and identity that you don't need to attack anyone or defend yourself to prove your worth. He knew his shortcomings, but he also knew his strengths. He was willing to give other people credit for successes and take blame upon himself for failures if it kept things running smoothly. He was secure enough in his own power that he could deal generously--but firmly--with people who tried to undermine him. In a city full of huge egos, in a profession that rewards puffed-up pride, that levelheaded humility is an extremely rare trait--which is what made it so impressive and effective.
#history is awesome#presidential talk#so i went to a teeny backwater thrift store today#their tiny history book section just happened to have an old lincoln biography#i opened to the page about the cabinet#which describes the situation like 'seward was calling himself premier and lording it over everyone'#'blair was causing problems everywhere'#'welles was insulting everyone in his diary and especially hated stanton grant and seward'#'and stanton hated absolutely everyone in the whole wide world'#and as i was reading this i was internally kicking my legs with excitement and cackling with glee because this is the good stuff#i don't know why but i love these horrible petty men#they're like a bunch of raccoons fighting over territory in a dumpster fire it's so great#i read the whole chapter right there in the store#and it impressed upon me yet again how impressive lincoln was to put up with all these guys#(the writer was a bit simplistic and made a lot of these guys come off as worse than they were)#(like he made seward sound like a complete incompetent when he was a pretty good secretary of state)#(he had some grandiose ideas but the man deserves a lot of credit for keeping england out of the war)#(but for a one-chapter summary of these guys it wasn't exactly wrong and it was a ton of fun)#i very much did not want another book especially another american history book#but it was only fifty cents and i have a pouch full of spare change#and the writer's style was so much fun that i decided to take the book with me#i don't plan to read the whole thing (i'm sick of lincoln bios) but it's fun to dip into for things like this#and i had to talk to you about it

if this is the arch heart’s position, then what events have led the unseelie believe that they are under his thumb?
#everywhere people are attributing the tyranny of mortals to the gods they worship#or else just imagining acts of tyranny wholesale#and to be clear this makes a lot of sense#in a world with powerful gods where the exact mechanics of the divine gate are not commonly understood#you could very easily blame the gods for pretty much anything#but are they ACTUALLY responsible?#signs point to no#critical role#campaign 3#cr spoilers

Hello sometimes I do finish my pokemon art lmao
This is Dimitri! a Gardevoir OC of mine. I have some fun Ideas about Gardevoir having some uncanny valley in comparison to humans. They evolved to mimic humans from a distance.
While Gardevoir are incredibly loyal to their trainers, they're also very secretive and territorial, and live in small forested communities that often use their psychic/fairy typing and human silhouette to lure humans er.... ~away~
They're basically your classical elf. capricious and tricky and loyal if you earn it.
Dimitri is a trianerless Gardevoir who works in a pokemon center alongside the usual Audino and Clefairy. (i'm making that pokemon medical school Jesse went to in the anime canon ok?) Dimitri acts as an anesthesiologist who keeps small delicate pokemon unconscious using hypnosis, and is often brought in after traumatic events to assist with pokemon and trainers experiencing symptoms of shock.
He's a sweet bean :3
#pokemon#ari's art#gardevoir#He's levitating here but the petals of his gown rest around his legs naturally when grounded#like all gardevoir- his legs are very weak and he can only comfortably hold his own weight for around an hour at a time#he levitates everywhere#he gave himself the buzzcut he's very punk for a gardevoir#he's pretty human socialized and doesn't present very traditionally for his species and he knows it#you WILL gender him correctly what else does he have to do to his appearance gddamn#yes that's a cleft lip

Hey there! Hope you’re doing well! Just looking for some Becca advice. Just curious if you have tips on cluttering and landscaping so places feel home-y and not like picture perfect magazine spreads. Everything I find on Pinterest is just too pretty ya know?
I guess my biggest tip is just to take inspo from real life, and from your sims! Like.. we're often busy and don't put things back where they belong straight away, maybe the remote inexplicably ends up in the kitchen now and then, or that take out you got last night didn't quite make it to the bin and remains strewn across the coffee table. That box in the corner is still taunting you, even tho you moved in over a year ago! Your attic is full of shit you keep meaning to sort out but never do, and you never quite manage to round up all your discarded clothes until you've nothing left to wear. You should totally take your sims into account too, their personalities, habits and their hobbies etc will dictate what's laying around the house! Oscar's house for example is usually a mess, esp since Cookie's a slob and he's always busy 😆 It's always dusty cos everyone forgets to vacuum, no one ever picks up the mail, there's shoes and bobbles and hair pins everywhere, the attic is full of shite, the kids leave all their activity stuff everywhere and school bags and books and trash and whatever the shit else, they both collect random things and there's plants EVERYWHERE it's just them but.. visually, in a house idk lmao.. maybe just make a perfect room and then move everything around and add random crap until it looks lived in 🤔
#ranswers#<333333#idk i just collect things - cough cc cough - that i think my sims would collect or just have in their house#like i love ivan's garage cos it's full of tools and random car parts cos he loves messing with shit like that#and robin leaves arty stuff everywhere cos he'll be doing whatever then get distracted n just leave it wherever#ofc i do have some neat sims who organise n shit too#like wyatt's house is pretty neat and sparse in comparison to oscar's for example#and noah's house is very classy but he's a bit scatty too so the decor is nice and neat but there's still random crap here n there#i just mess around n add whatever i think fits the house/scene or whatever#i never sell anything in oscar's house - well not usually - it just gets yeeted into the attic for now lol#we'll sort it out later............

yknow before trying oil pastels i assumed that getting full paper coverage with them and blending with fingers would be really effortless, but i feel like i am fighting for my life every time
#i just have a very light touch i think lmao#because the brand i have is pretty consistently ranked as one of the smoothest#i do smudge absolutely everything in sight but that's more because my hands get dirty if i come within 5 meter radius of an oil pastel#and i proceed to get *that* everywhere#but the actual pastel? nope
