thinking about when winnie first escaped the company and lived with these college arts students for like a year and a half… it was the first time winnie got a taste of what being a person is like and she‘s been chasing for it ever since

Ngl, if Tiana doesn't wield a firearm in some way in her new series, I'm gonna be so disappointed. Firearms were already very legal and commonly used in the States by the mid-late 1920s (which is when TPATF mostly takes place), so I'd like to see her sport it at least once. She'd be the first Disney Princess to canonically wield a gun/firearm. They seriously need to make that happen. Also, why doesn't fanart of her wielding a firearm exist????
#tiana#disney#the tiana series#i hc tiana as a pro-gun person like honestly. she would only use it when she REALLY needs it to tho. that'd be her whole thing#you can't tell me she doesn't have a firearm hidden in the kitchen in case someone breaks in. i see tiana as THAT type#she wouldn't really shoot but at least intimidate the intruder#i mean she used louie to f*cking scare the racist businessmen into giving her the damn key to the territory#don't think for one second she wouldn't wield a firearm to scare someone away#“why are you hc'ing tiana as pro-gun” my brother in christ this was the united states in the '20s#the us has always been known for its VERY pro-gun stance#also given the era she grew up in (jim crow) that woulda been very useful anyways#tiana is badass like that#crazy to think she is the only princess who possibly lived till the 21st century#she was born in 1907 as she was 19 in 1926. that sh*t is incredible tbh#disney will never ever show that but man it makes you think like damn she really saw ALL of the social change#i know she isn't real#i get that part but i'm sorry dp's are the most important characters to me so it blows my mind that she possibly lived till the 21st centur#it's crazy but cool#“you are glorifying gun violence. that's horrible” no sister i'm just talking about how cool and badass it'd be for a disneh princess to#wield a gun. they've wielded swords and bows before (mulan ariel [in the sequel for a brief moment] rapunzel probably MERIDA moana quite#possibly RAYA) so why is a gun any different? also that's a whole another vibe tbh#naveen is the one that would be like “WAIT WAIT WHY ARE YOU HOLDING THAT THING???” dude is probably a gun HATER#i can tell it. “i don't understand you americans's obsession with guns!!!! seriously!” and tiana is like oh poor bby lmaooo#jasmine did too in the series!! these b*tches are no stranger to WEAPONS lmao

Fire rising in SR - these years were characterized for being SO SO chaotic and all over the place tbh. It was always a mix of good and bad things like damn I couldn't catch a break. So many rollecosters, STRESS, situations were I was at the edge of my seat, unpredictable and random stuff happening...
Air rising on SR - one word: fresh. Total opposite from fire risings. Air risings were years that felt so light and fresh! I felt like I was floating through the year in a good way! Just going with flow. And I've said this before the best most chill years where I've found myself thriving were Libra risings on SR (also venus in the 1st house)
Moon-Lilith conjunction in th SR - I felt like my life being sucked out of me and overall felt kinda unlucky that year. I felt so empty inside during this year it was insane. Also I was having mayor issues and conflicts with my mom
Chiron is in SR is a bit catastrophized imo. It can not only mean areas in your life that can "break" but also areas that could find healing or resolutions as well. Whenever I've seen the breaking or ending manifestation of this asteroid it was always from a place of reconsideration and healing rather destruction, like making peace with something. For example, Chiron in the 7th house could mean ending a relationship on good terms or unlearning unhealthy relationship patterns. On time I had Chiron in the 6th house and during that year I got a nice job after a long period of struggling to find a job. Of course it's nuanced and it can often be painful and disappointing process but I think people don't mention enough how Chiron is about finding relief as well
One time I read the SR for a client who had Pluto in the 6th house for that year and turns out she was planning to undergo surgery during that time for health reasons
Leo rising in SR - These years were TERRIBLE for some reason. Maybe it was due to Cancer 12th house but I was really struggling to find happiness and fulfillment in my life during these times
Cancer mars in the SR - So emotional!! Like truly it was years that were clouded by emotion. It was either due to family stuff, friends or relationships, but I was running on emotion all the time and I couldn't act on logic to save my life. However it's not like I was in my bed crying all day but rather these emotions were giving energy and motivation in some way. Somehow being emotional was always making be feel.... alive?
Moon in 12th house of SR - I was getting ready to move and separate from my family during this year
Taurus rising in SR - these years were surprisingly.... intense, specially with my relationships. A lot of patience, resisting and enduring. Every event that happened felt like I was going through a 10-year-long process and really had a strong impact in my life. Years were I reconsidered my priorities a lot and was really faced with what is it that I truly value
Uranus in the 1st house of SR - literally a few days prior to my bday I received shocking news that turned my entire year (and life) upside down so you can imagine how this energy played out. Life forcing changes on my life that I was not ready for but had to make it through one way or another
Virgo rising in SR - I started a new job!
Look at Part of Fortune and Vertex in your SR chart, these will be significant themes!
Capricorn rising in SR - I was.... borderline depressed here ngl. Those kind of years that never seem to end ever. I was receiving pressure from both my career life and my family life. Overall earth rising in the SR were years that felt very 'heavy' if that makes sense.
Juno in the 1st house of SR - these were years were I meant new people!!! I significantly enlarged my network
^Same thing with Venus/Libra/Vertex in the 7th house of SR. I didn't get into a relationships or had anything romantic going on, I met new people and made new friends in general. I also bought lots of new clothes and invested a lot in my image
Scorpio rising in SR -you know when you go through a very intense experience out of nowhere and then come out of it soon after like nothing happened and you're left feeling like "wtf was that for"? That's this.
Yod configuration in SR - very karmic life-changing and ground breaking events in my life. Before and after vibes
Moon in Capricorn in the SR - my girlboss era!!!! These were years were I began new professional opportunities like my first job or my first year in college
Moon in the 8th house of SR - you guessed it: trauma. I'm talking canon event kind of trauma. A family member died.
Vertex in the 8th house of SR - this was playing life on hard mode honestly. Not necessarily traumatic, but very complicated events and situations here that put you to the test

*scratches at window cutely* any lore of pre-war Cybertron pls :3 💫💫
teehee :3 well… every since watching tfone my ideas have changed a bit, but most of my pre-war lore is a bunch of my favorite bits and pieces from other continuities! (also all bots have t-cogs)
as for characters, the ones I have the most ideas for pre-war are Optimus, Elita, Megatron, and ratchet! Optimus, elita, and megs were of course: Orion pax, Ariel, and D-16 (ratchet was always ratchet lol)
Orions job was to transport energon from the mines to the refineries, so he wasn’t actually in the mines himself, and instead worked around them. he did essentially live with the miners though. I think ive mentioned this before, but his cooling and ventilation systems have never worked properly, so despite his job being very easy for most, it put a lot of strain on him because of how easily he overheated.
Ariel wasn’t a miner herself, she was a mining dump truck, so she just carried away all the unneeded material that was dug up. also!! she used to be yellow instead of pink (tfa elita reference lol) She always followed the rules and did what she was told.. except when it came to orion. her superiors often gave orion a hard time, so she would get in the middle of it, and since she’s huge and great at her job, they could never get rid of her for insubordination. (she was also the only dump truck at the mine she was stationed at so she definitely wasnt expendable)
D-16 worked in the mines just as your typical run of the mill miner. he was great at what he did, buuuuuut he did have a bit of an issue with authority figures. and this pissed off his superiors a lot, so after one particularly heated argument where D and ariel were trying to convince their boss to please let Orion go to a medic cus smoke is literally pouring out of him, D was shipped off to the gladiator ring. His frame was practically remade to twice its original size, and he was dropped off in the fighters barracks. he hated fighting but was unfortunately very good at it, and his fans nicknamed him “megatronus” which he later shortened to Megatron
aaaaaand last but not least, Ratchet! He was created a medic, loved being a medic, and was amazing at what he did. After an incident at the mine where our big three worked at, Ratchet was sent there to treat any wounded he could find.. whhiiich is where he found Orion! Orion wasn’t injured in the incident, but he was severely overheated at the time, and Ratchet saw this chronically ill little guy and immediately decided he just had to help him. Ratchet got permission to bring Orion back with him to run some tests, aaand it turned out that if orions temperature increased anymore he was literally going to explode and die! but ratchet was able to stabilize him 👍 yaaaay. after that, Ratchet would often be at the mines where orion stayed so he could do daily checkups on him and to keep him from going offline. and of course they became besties lol
as for society and governemntttt,,, the functionist system was very much in play (if you were created with a certain alt-mode, that dictates your entire life) i think the aligned continuity is closest to what im going for with.
tbh i dont have it super fleshed but i’ll be working on it 👍👍💥

Been thinking about how I would rewrite Wish and here’s my thoughts so far:
King Magnifico is not a villain, period. Instead I decided to make him more akin to Merlin from The Sword In The Stone. He’s just a quirky old man with protective grandpa vibes.
Asha is already Magnifico’s apprentice at the start of the film and he fills in the role of a father figure in her life. They still disagree about the wish-granting ethics, but it’s way more amiable. Also Asha’s basically like “I’m not a little girl anymore” and Magnifico’s like “you’ll understand when you’re older”, etc. I can kinda see them having a similar vibe to how Twisted portrays Jasmine and Jafar tbh.
I decided to make the queen the main villain instead and very similar to the queen from Snow White. She manages to keep this facade of being a kind and generous ruler, but as Asha grows older, the queen finds it harder and harder to contain her jealously. She’s also subtly manipulative towards Magnifico as well.
I loved the concept of Star being a shapeshifter from the original draft of the project, so I decided to keep that element intact and make him Asha’s love interest. He’s somewhat like a gender switched Ariel, curious and excited to explore the human world and wanting to be a part of it.
I decided to change the context of the dark magic book corrupting Magnifico. As the queen becomes more and more unhinged, she starts trying to coerce her husband into doing her dirty work, but he staunchly refuses, so she uses the book to change him from a benevolent wizard to an archetypal evil sorcerer. She also does this to spite Asha because she knows how close their bond is.
In the end, it’s the queen who ends up trapped forever in the mirror and Magnifico is saved from her dark influence.
Asha’s character arc and Magnifico’s character arc are very similar as they both learn to admit when they’re wrong. Asha accepts that she still has a lot to learn and Magnifico learns to trust his apprentice with more responsibilities as she grows up.
Star’s one wish was to be human. He knows that that means giving up his immortality, but he’s ok with that because he would rather spend a finite life with Asha than be alone and live forever. His wish is granted and we get a closing narration from Magnifico (who also does an opening narration at the start) saying “…and we all lived happily ever after.” before closing the book that opened the movie.
I’m pretty sure there’s going to be other bits and parts but these are the ideas I have so far. Lmk what you all think! 👍

Things I Would Ideally Want in Sofia the First: Royal Magic
(obviously this is going to be a show for pre-schoolers again, so they can’t get away with anything too dark. HOWEVER they did include some heavy topics in season 4)
(a lot of this is assuming that it takes place close to/directly after the finale)
• Cedric and Sofia father-daughter bonding time
•Sofia passes the amulet on/looses it in some capacity at the end and has to confront who she is without her powers. This would include parting with Clover, Mia, and Robin.
•Sofia and Roland talk about the fact that he indirectly (at best) killed his wife and they are most likely the only two people who know about it. Like take accountability bro
• The Protector’s acknowledging that they have basically made Sofia into a child solider
•The Magic Library episodes since those got really sparse at the end and felt really half assed
•Sofia confronts how much pressure has been on her for the past 4 years of her formative life
•Sofia and Miranda have a proper talk about the Amulet and how much Sofia had been hiding from her
•Tbh just have Sofia run away at some point, she is under so much stress and has the means to with her powers. Of course she’d come back and regret it, but acting that way wouldn’t be out of character for someone her age who is so mentally exhausted
•This one is pretty clearly going to be answered, but what exactly this Royal Magic School is. We didn’t see it at the school fair to my knowledge, so how is it found and why didn’t we know about it before?
•Sofia goes to the school by herself, rather than with James and Amber. Sofia’s already a very independent person, but I want to see James and Amber react to properly being away from each other for the first time
•It’s unclear if the schools that the royals choose to go to are sleep away schools, or another that they commute to. Either way, I’d like to see Roland and Miranda deal with empty nest syndrome while their kids are either living somewhere else or just very busy.
•Have focus on the other characters. Now that the Enchancian kids futures have been firmly stated, it would awkward to only have episodes focused on Sofia’s adventures. It’d be really rewarding to see James and Amber at their respective schools as well
•More detailed Cedric character arc. Now that Sofia is off at school and much more busy, Cedric has to work on being a good person without her influence being around to push him in the right direction as often. Give me a good one on one between him and Roland about their childhood issues
•If they could get Zach Callison back as James that would be AMAZING! Especially with how much his singing has improved, I think his and Darcy Rose Byrnes voices would sound amazing together
•SABRINA BACK AS VIVIAN imagine how much attention the show could get if they do! And because she was great as Vivian, of course!
•Miranda’s backstory. Who are her parents, how did she and Birk meet, how she adjusted to palace life. We see everything through Sofia’s perspective, so seeing Miranda dealing her same problems like grief or such a stark change of environment as an adult would be super interesting
•Tbh I don’t want to see Sofia in any romantic relationships. Like maybe it’s because of how young she is but I really can’t see her in a relationship with anyone😭😭 As much as a chunk of the fandom wants to see her get with Vivian or Hugo, I want them to just avoid the topic all together
•Do SOMETHING with Carrol of the Arrow, like they set up a whole thing of showing that the royals kind of suck and then never used the characters again
•Prisma doesn’t show up. Just mention her in passing like “Oh yeah remember Walmart Princess Ivy? Yeah lol that sucked”
•Jade just doesn’t show up <3
•Some sort of side special where Ariel Winter is fully interviewed about her time as Sofia. She seems so interesting, and was beginning the shower during Modern Family, meaning she would have been insanely busy but clearly cared enough about the show to continue. Desperately need an interviewer to ask her about her silly Disney Jr show😭😭
I have 2 years to come up with new ideas so expect more👹👹

ok quick thoughts, spoilers behind the cut.
Pros:
Halle. HALLE. H a l l e. Her voice, her face, her mannerisms. They took what made Ariel special in the animated movie and built on it and she was the perfect person to pull it off.
Tumblr media
Her beauty was distracting.
So glad they finally got a singer for a live action, I couldn’t take another B&B autotuned disaster.
Tumblr media
Made me want to get to the nearest rock and play mermaid ngl.
I had my doubts with Jonah but he did a great job with Eric, played the shy, kinda awkward potato prince charming to perfection. Loved that they expanded his backstory and his interest in adventure and the sea. Also A+ for the movie knowing he had a white shirt on while surrounded by water and using every chance it had to drench him.
Eric still being caring and worried about Ariel even under Ursula’s spell? 10/10 no notes.
Tumblr media
He came to chew bubblegum and be dreamy and he was all out of bubblegum.
Halle and Jonah’s chemistry was insane, I need them to do ten movies making eyes at each other.
Tumblr media
Seriously the movie could have been 2 hours of them interacting in that library and it would have been money well spent.
Tumblr media
or just two hours of them being cute smol and tol in a boat idc
Tumblr media
TRUE LOVE INDEED
Can’t wait for this movie to be out in D+ so I can reblog all the gifs.
Part of Your World and all reprises were ofc gorgeous. Vanessa’s Trick is haunting and exactly what one would want for a siren song. For the First Time is gorgeous and underrated, felt very Broadway-esque. Eric’s song was corny but in a good way.
The rest of the songs are adequate but are not as good as the original ones.
Gotta said, song aside, the Kiss the Girl scene was more endearing in this version. When she helps him figure out her name?
Tumblr media
Melissa was good as Ursula and made the character her own, though I think she was not as scary as she could have been. Better than I expected, though.
The actress that plays Vanessa knew she had 5 minutes to make an impression and used them to the fullest. Delightful.
Cons:
The CGI felt unfinished and so did the color grading/lighting. I edited all the movie images in this post (just played with the saturation and the contrast) and I’m mediocre at best. HIRE TUMBLR EDITORS, DISNEY.
Halle deserved to wear more outfits, I can't believe Disney missed an opportunity to sell more dolls. Would have given her a dress for each day on land and the water dress. Mouse, I thought you liked money.
Tumblr media
we could have had it all
Wanted more of her sisters tbh. And less Triton, Javier phoned it in imo. I know Triton and Ariel’s relationship is an important part of the original movie but idk if it was his half assed acting or me wanting more of the sisters, but I wasn’t moved.
Flounder's weird character design was saved by his stellar voice actor and Sebastian grew on me, he was hilarious. Scuttlefina was tolerable but gosh she’s always playing the same character, stop casting her in everything.
Less I say about Scuttlebutt the better. Kids are probably gonna love it, though.
The ending was kinda weird? It felt rushed and the battle with Ursula was disappointing. Which is a surprise because the OTHER stormy scene at night was wonderfully done.
Up to Ursula taking Ariel back to the ocean it felt really cohesive but the second Triton appears to save her it was like they were trying to speed things up and it got... weird.
Didn’t mind Ariel being the one that killed Ursula, after everything she put her through.
Cannot believe the movie robbed us of Jonah screaming “I lost her once, I’m not gonna lose her again!”
Overall it was a well paced (up to the finale), entertaining, charming movie. Despite its faults, the only Disney live action I want to rewatch (outside MAYBE Cinderella).
8/10 Justice for the foam dress.

ROUND 1A, MATCH 1 OUT OF 8!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Ariel (Animated):
Because someone had to submit her. I mean the animated version, specifically.
She may make very stupid decisions in the name of her special interest, but you've got to admire the dedication at least! Also goddamn her singing voice.
Part of Your World still hits so hard and makes me so emotional, despite not feeling very attached to this movie. Jodi Benson has such a beautiful voice! I haven't watched the live-action remake so I don't know how good that rendition of Part Of Your World is, but this one is so incredibly powerful.
Ariel (Live Action):
She's just so cute and beautiful and sweet and her singing voice is amazing!!!
I LOVED the live action! Ariel was portrayed so well and given a lot more depth. Plus, her and Eric's relationship was ALSO given a lot more depth <3 The scene where she breaks something (i don't quite remember what it was XD) and shows him what was inside? Them bonding over their love of learning? Hovering over a map? Scurrying around and hiding from Eric's mom? Couple goals, imo. idc if I get into a relationship or not, but if I ever do i hope to god they will geek out with me as much as these two nerds did <3
tbh i have despised all of the new disney live action adaptations, and haven't watched them since the less then stellar beauty and the beast was released in 2017. but everyone was going on about how good this one and when i finally watched it was pleasantly surprised. sure there were general soul-less disney remake moments - but halley bailey's ariel was so beautiful and genuine! her passion and determination, her beautiful voice, how flippin expressive her eyes are. ironic that a little mermaid was such a breath of fresh air. an absolutely beautiful character adaptation
She was forced to listen to Awkwafina rap, she deserves SOMETHING.

Facts About the TWST Boys You Might Not Know: Octavinelle
So, it's been a minute since I made the other ones, but by the time I'm making this, the Heartslabyul part has been out for 3 days, and it's already the most popular post I've ever made, which is kinda insane. 92 fucking notes. Where did all the people come from? No clue.
Tbh, I'm glad people enjoyed the post (or just liked because it's a thing people do where they just like posts they think are cool? Which I don't understand, but whatever.), but I make these posts for very selfish reasons, so it's not super important. I just chose to include this because I find it insane so many people interacted with one of my posts.
Anyway-
SKIP DOWN BELOW THE CUT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ A BORING MESSAGE!
Azul
He knows how to play the piano, and was in a band with both Jade and Floyd
He can write with all 10 of his limbs in his octo form (I figure that's pretty well known, but I still like this fact)
He's into coin collecting
His last name references a color like his first name, but also has grotto in it, referencing the grotto where Ariel in The Little Mermaid kept her human findings (that sounds weird, but it's technically true)
Jade
His job when there is a new influx of Octavinelle students is to gain info on them to both appeal to them and blackmail them. The info includes: home countries, hobbies, tastes, least favorite foods, worst subjects, and a catalogue of the students' public, private, and secret Magicam accounts (I do not want to be an Octavinelle student, holy fuck)
The little earing he wears (Floyd also wears, so I'm gonna put this fact in his as well) is made from sturgeon scales, because before they entered middle school, a sturgeon challenged them to a fight, and in return for being beaten by the twins, the sturgeon had to give them some scales (I'm pretty sure they might have also just taken the scales and said the sturgeon gave the scales to them)
The sturgeon scales mentioned above are apparently lucky charms in the Coral Sea
Floyd
His name is actually Welsh, and means "grey" or "grey-haired" (very interesting, actually)
As we all know, he has a nickname for most of the TWST cast. (I actually made a post about these nicknames a while ago, but I'm not linking it because going through my posts for that would be waaayyy too much of a hassle)
He says he's neither the older nor younger twin brother of Jade (which.... like... does it really matter? And since they hatch from an egg (I'm assuming because I just looked it up and morays do lay eggs), wouldn't they have a chance to hatch at the same time?)
His skin is very beautiful and well-moisturized according to Vil (Is Jade not the same or...?)
Floyd is very interested in shoes (I'm sure we knew that though)
Oh shit, a good fact right here. Floyd can perfectly recall anything he has seen or heard as long as it's interesting to him. If it's boring, he'll forget it immediately. (I actually never knew this wtf)
I wish the other dorms got as much love as Heartslabyul, but I feel like that last Floyd fact will make up for that for now.
Anyways, I'll get Scarabia done when I get it done I guess.

the librarians "and the happily ever afters" watch through:
hey flynn’s back! evidently we’re getting to the season book ends
that’s certainly one downside of door portals - you need a door. very few doors in any natural landscape.
so jenkins has forgotten the others, that’s ones thing, but where are the others?
"that sounds like a sentence, sir, but there’s no information in it" lol
yeah that’s the issue - flynn remembers 4 people, jenkins doesn’t. and magic is a thing. who’s to say that jenkins isn’t right, and flynn just has implanted fake magic memories? i’d be so paranoid in this universe tbh.
huh, but baird wasn’t a local sheriff of a small town before becoming a guardian, this is something very strange
this cicely place sooo does not exist, as flynn points out it doesn’t make much sense. whole place is mostly utopic but nonsensical. and they’re talking about it like a tv show. also what are we going for with the name, cicero x sicily?
lmao in "what lies beneath the stones" jacob asks if the other file on ezekiel is because he was in the fbi, and ezekiel pointed out that that was illogical because he’s not a yank. and in this episode ezekiel *is* part of the fbi, which flynn points out is illogical. love that little foreshadowing/easter egg.
ooh so baird’s badge is somehow part of it, like a charm controlling her. probably the others also have some kind of charm - maybe cassandra’s moon rock necklace, not sure about the other two yet.
someone’s gonna have to clean up the library again lol
ohhhh so smart they’ve all been led back to the library and trapped here
can flynn see their objects & eyes lighting up with magic?
"10,000 years of human beings singing and dancing and painting and writing their hearts and souls into the world" beautiful quote (but why only 10,000 years?)
should we really be trusting ariel??and her plan seems far too simple…
the supposedly perfect dreams come true arent working bc they care about their friends too much <3 cute
"im flynn carsen and im the… im *a* Librarian" aww finally we’re seeing them as equals rather than The Librarian plus those other guys. they’ve graduated <3
"and i thought that’s all i needed. but now i know that i need more" flynn says looking at eve!! awwwww!!

dinglhoppr asked: Who is an author that inspires you? :) ♡ Munday Meme ♡
Tumblr media
oh my gosh , so many inspire me. i cannot list them all bc tumblr cuts me off but here is a few good beans and reasons why.
@seachant is my little meow meow ofc i list her here. she is such an incredible writer. there is not a character she will not understand .. but her ariel holds a special place in my heart as i wanted to rejoin the fandom here and write with her. SO PRECIOUS TO MY HEART. cannot begin to tell you. also her u.sagi and my h.aru are best friends i don't make the rules. i love people who will write w/ me on multiple blogs. thank u fav.
@oudachi .. every blog ever that ark has just has me by the scruff. our friendship only evolves throughout the years but one thing is for certain , ark gets their characters. also sends me bomb t.iktoks and laughs at the stupid jokes i tell. thanks fav.
i am inspired a ton by @chainmemories. he captures every character he has ever written so well. he is also an amazing person but that's beside the point. i love seeing people celebrate toma tbh. he's a genuine joy and he writes all the sunshine protags yes .. but if people know him , it's gotta be easy bc he is the sunshine protag to me dkfdjfkdf i don't shut up about him but seriously MAN i love that dude.
@dragetunge is the sole reason for me getting involved with h.ttyd so i gotta list kris here. kris writes h.iccup so well. so so so well. now that i've seen the films i can say this for a fact. i'm very grateful for our friendship but MAN when i see kris on my dash you know i'm over here like YESSS .

What's your favorite fictional portrayal of any of OTMA? It could be from stories that mainly focus on one of the sisters (i.e Don Bluth's Anastasia film), stories that are centered on all four or somewhere in between (like for example stories that for some reason only focus on say, one half of OTMA) and so on.
Hello dear Anon and thank you for your question!
I haven’t actually seen or read many OTMA fictional portrayals. Frankly, of the ones I have, none of them have really struck a chord with me as being great works and very accurate. So instead I’ll just give my thoughts on ones that I have seen/read.
The Lost Crown by Sarah Miller: Ok, I’m starting with this one because it seems universally popular as an accurate representation of OTMA. I’d like to disagree respectfully. While it certainly sticks to the basic facts, the representations of the sisters themselves feel very stereotypical and flat. They’re defined by basically a few traits—what I especially hate is how Maria is portrayed almost as a baby. (To be fair, I read this a while ago, so she may not have been portrayed as badly as I remember.) The new cover for the edition titled OTMA, however, is beautiful. I appreciated the handling of the Skorokhodov myth.
Don Bluth’s Anastasia: It’s a charming film, is what I’ll say! It gets hate for being so historically inaccurate but I don’t mind much. The music is beautiful and enchanting. But I don’t really consider it a Romanov film because Anastasia is the only Romanov who replays a part, unless you count Maria Feodorovna, who is somehow in Paris. But clearly they did just a bit of research, enough to be able to claim “we did research,” and according to the behind-the-scenes documentary (it comes with some editions of the DVD), they literally based Anastasia’s look on Audrey Hepburn!!!
Romanov by Nadine Brandes: I actually liked this book, despite it deviating from history so dramatically. The writing was beautiful and Anastasia retained her mischievous character while coming across as kind and sympathetic. Her father trusted her way too much in the book and I know in real life, however much love there was, Anastasia was simply too young to receive so much trust. Also perpetuates the Ivan Skorokhodov myth, tames the act, but exaggerates the punishments. And it misgenders Joy! (But I’d still recommend for Anastasia fans.) The writing is imo more captivating than The Lost Crown.
Anastasia, the Last Grand Duchess by Carolyn Meyer: It was okay. On the poor side of the Royal Diaries series. It seems the author just read Nicholas and Alexandra and then wrote the book. Anastasia comes across as very shallow. When Maria contracts pneumonia and measles and is in danger of death, what does Anastasia say? “Good thing we have our doctors!” (Or something along those lines.) And that’s all. Clearly she doesn’t care about Maria very much.
Anastasia and Her Sisters by Carolyn Meyer: Same author, much better book. Anastasia’s thought processes are fleshed out more and the writing more enjoyable. Would recommend, but tbh can’t remember much about it … Written in first person, almost diary form but not quite.
I Was Anastasia by Ariel Lawhorn: This was a fine read. I really enjoyed the author’s use of structure—it gave the whole book a unique shape. (It’s two stories—one of Anna Anderson, told in third person and told backwards, and Anastasia, told in first person and told in typical chronology.) Perpetuates Skorokhodov and rape myths.
The Last Grand Duchess by Bryn Turnbull: Eh. Somewhat dull.
Dear Anon, I’m sorry I wrote all of this for you to read—now I see I probably have read enough to pick a favorite. Well then, I suppose I’ll choose Romanov!
(But honestly, if anyone is reading this and is broke and is just trying to get some joy back into their life through one Romanov retelling, don’t buy any of these.)

watching the Little Mermaid live action remake, and I'm gonna make it your problem
oooh, shiny scales, I love it
Ariel's breathtaking, I love how her hair flows in the water
her sisters are also gorgeous and their designs are amazing
CGI sea creatures look realistic but still manage to be all magical and shxt, nice
Ursula's not a drag queen (a crime tbh), but her design is so coooool
aaah, Ariel's voice (I don't watch trailers, this is my first time hearing it)
Eric has a personality?!
they gave an actual reason as to why Ariel would be attracted to Eric aside from teenage girl hormones go brrr for pretty boy
oooh, they did the cliff thing
Eric has an I want song now and his voice is heavenly
did... did they just add generational trauma to the mermaid family? great addition, I approve (yes, I've seen the prequel)
had to Google Sebastian's accent, it's Jamaican, I love it, I think it suits him
so many pretty sea creatures dancing, oooh, jellyfish
why the fxck do they swim like that?
Poor Unfortunate Souls slaps, Ursula's voice is aaaah (very eloquent)
huh, Ariel still sings in her head (good decision imo, it would've been such a waste)
Ariel doesn't like high heels and corsets, completely understandable tbh
ooof, her meeting the prince and not being able to speak was so much more devastating with the added thought singing, my baby heart, noooo 😭
apparently Ursula put a spell on Ariel that made her forget her objective of kisskissfallinlove and I don't know how I feel about that (in hindsight it makes sense, this Ariel would've totally jumped Eric's bones, lmao)
Scuttle and Sebastian's banter is fxcking hysterical
roll credits, lmao
oooh, Eric has a stuff room too
Grimsby is best boi
Ariel breaks for goats but not humans, we stan
Anakin would flip his shxt if he saw this dance scene
aaaw, Ariel taught Eric her name
Shalalalalala... You Gotta Kiss The Girl~🎶
Ursula's growly voice 😩👌
I love how Ursula's appearance on shore feels even more sinister than in the animated movie
is... is Scuttle rapping? and she has mad flow?! SEBASTIAN TOO!? also it's actual genius how Scuttle's rap sounds how you'd expect a bird rapping
human Ursula's uuuh... huuuh... 🥵
Grimsbyyy you naughty boi
she's also fxcking terrifying, holy fxckaroni
Eric's waaay too chill about Ariel turning into a mermaid right in his arms, lmao
loving the ominous ink cloud
tentacle raaave
Triton's baaack, baby 👑
I love his character design btw, that clamshell armor is so cool and shiny ✨
mermaid dad sad 🥺😭
the send-off definitely didn't make me cry, shutup
neither did Howard Ashman's name in the credits
