Craig Gerber in regard to Sofia being a face character at the Disney Parks! I’m fairly sure Sofia will be canonically 12 during Royal Magic but she doesn’t visibly age throughout the originally series run, so I understand why she would be considered too young. Personally I think if Alice and Wendy can be portrayed by adults then Sofia can too! Definitely not just because I’d want to play her or anythingā€¦šŸ‘€

Sofia the First Headcanons That May Be Canon
since you guys seemed to like the last post i made about them :)
• The amulet exists outside of time- it ties princesses together regardless of when in time or what timeline they’re from. Snow White and Tiana couldn’t have existed during the same time period, yet both have met Sofia, for example.
• Cordelia is not on speaking terms with her and Cedric’s parents. Despite Cordelia being clearly favored in their childhoods, Goodwin and Winnifred never mention her or compare Cedric to her throughout the series. While it’s probably just because Cordelia hadn’t been thought of by the creators prior to the Mystic Meadows episode, it can come off as her being estranged from her parents. My personal thought is that this happened after they found out she was pregnant with Calista without being married.
• The royal sorcerer system is sexist. To my knowledge we have never seen a woman royal sorcerer. Cedric was seen as significantly worse at magic than Cordelia, yet still somehow got the Enchancian Royal sorcerer job over her, but similar to the way a ruler is chosen in Enchancia, it would make more sense for the eldest child of the past royal sorcerer to inherit the position. Cordelia seems to pride herself on her magic and Calista wouldn’t have been born at the time of being offered the job, meaning her schedule in theory should have been fully open for it. Or maybe I’m overthinking and she just didn’t want to be the royal sorcerer. But I think the system is just sexist- I highly doubt Goodwin would have willingly passed down his position to Cedric over Cordelia considering how he perceives the formers abilities.
• Hugo has a crush on Sofia, but she doesn’t reciprocate the feelings. And no, this isn’t because Craig said Sofia doesn’t, I just don’t see her being interested in him romantically.
• On that note, I don’t think Sofia would date for the majority of her youth. During the shows actual run she’d be too young to have a ā€œrealā€ relationship anyway, but as she grew up going to school, being a protector and being a princess, she would be left very little free time to commit to being in a relationship.
• Birk was the one who taught Sofia to sail before passing away. Miranda didn’t know how to sail until she started taking lessons in season 3, and Birk was a sailor, meaning he would be equipped to teach Sofia. This all but confirms that Birk died after Sofia turned 4, since she mentions she’s been sailing since that age in The Princess Stays in the Picture.
• Some animals can’t communicate with each other, such as Whatnaught, despite understanding what everyone else is saying. This is seen as a sort of speech impediment or disability in the animal world. It’s worth noting that it isn’t just a species thing, since Sofia can understand all animals, meaning that some of them just can’t communicate verbally.
• Sofia’s original protector outfit is so plain because she took Chrysta’s comment about her outfit when they first met to heart. Chrysta had poked fun at Sofia for dressing up for training, so Sofia chose the most simple outfit she could for the next time they’d meet. This was during the time that the creators gave both Amber and Sofia more complex main dresses, so I’d like to think that there’s an actual in-universe reason for Sofia’s protector outfit to be so painfully boring.
• Cedric being seen as stupid was not caused only by The Incidentā„¢ļø at Cordelia’s ball, but it was the moment that started the downward spiral. Since Cedric wasn’t of age to be an actual sorcerer yet (assuming that happens at 10 when sorcerors get a ball), the general public hasn’t seen him do magic before. The first time he did, it went so horribly wrong that he got terrible stage fright from it which led to a snowball effect of people thinking he’s just bad at magic. We see him consistently struggle with performing magic in front of others, so it would make sense for The Incidentā„¢ļø to be what first started that.
• We see in Through the Looking Back Glass that Cedric used to do magic with his hands instead of a wand. Since the only time he’s seen doing this is a traumatic incident, it’s safe to assume that he decided to only use a wand for the rest of his life for fear of messing up another spell using his hands.
• This one is a lot more speculative and most likely not intended, but I think that not everyone can use magic through their hands, but anyone can use a wand. Wandless magic can be a bit riskier since there isn’t something to channel the magic through, making it unpredictable. People who come from long lines of sorcerers and have magic in their blood are more likely to be able to do wandless magic, but there are some special cases in which it’s just a random person who can. Cordelia knows that theres a good chance Calista can use wandless magic because of how naturally gifted she is, but won’t let her for fear of repeating what happened with Cedric.
• Additionally, witches don’t need to use wands for magic. We see that Lucinda uses a stick to cast spells which we can assume doesn’t actually have any magical properties. Since she’s come from a long line of witches, naturally having magic and not needing a magic wand to cast spells would make sense. Perhaps anything vaguely wand shaped can be used to channel magic so long as the user is naturally magical. Sofia, on the other hand, doesn’t have any magical blood, so she’s only able to use magic if she has an actual magic wand given to her, for example.
• (I’d like to preface that this one is NOT a shipping related topic. Their relationship is father-daughter in my eyes, don’t twist my words you weirdos) The times that Cedric calls Sofia just ā€œSofiaā€ with no title are when he’s feeling strong emotion and slips up. Growing up in the castle, consistently referring to royalty properly was probably drilled into his head, but there are a handful of times where he doesn’t for Sofia. Winter’s Gift, for example, is the first time, when Sofia was the only person to ever give Cedric a thoughtful present. Then in Day of the Sorcerers he doesn’t use a title multiple times- first when he’s excited, then surprised, then sad. Then in Through the Looking Back Glass when he’s angry with Cordelia he refers to Sofia without a title again. In Hexley Hall, he once again does this when Sofia is in danger. Just judging by these, in the heat of the moment he’ll forget to refer to Sofia as royalty due to how comfortable he feels with her as a friend.
• Even as she gets older, Sofia still calls Cedric ā€œMr. Cedric.ā€ To my knowledge, she’s only said his name as just ā€œCedricā€ once, and it wasn’t to his face. While starting out as her just using manors, it evolved into a way of showing Cedric that she respects him when so many people don’t. She and Cedric are clearly close enough for her not to need to use such a formality, so I’d like to think this, or maybe just habit, is the reason she still does.
• Calista develops claustrophobia after the castle shrunk in Through the Looking Back Glass. While I think everyone in that situation (especially the 4 who helped to cause it) would have some kind of lingering issues surrounding small spaces afterwards, Calista probably got the worst of it due to it happening during such formative years. Sofia’s definitely wracked up a lot of trauma throughout the show already, but at least has the knowledge that she can use her amulet to shrink as well if she’s in an enclosed space. Someone definitely died during that sequence as well.

better call saul is so funny because epsiodes will start with really emotional and dialogue heavy jimmy sequences and then cut to 10 uninterrupted minutes of mike nonchalantly pulling off an insanely convoluted heist in complete silence

Is there anything you’re able to talk about in regards to Royal Magic without getting into any legal trouble? I’m very excited to see it next year!
Hi there ! Unfortunately I can't say much about Sofia the First Royal magic because I'd be breaking NDA. All I can tell you is that it's been really fun working on the show and I have a feeling fans will have a lot of fun with it. The episodes we've been working on have a lot of heart and it's definitely a return to the world of Sofia in a great way.
Apologies as I know that's all super generic and vague but def be patient and hopefully marketing will put out stuff for you guys to see as we get further along in production.

something that will forever baffle me is cedfia shippers who genuinely believe that there’s a chance it will become canon, or was intended to be viewed as such. with all due respect dawg, disney is not going to have a 12 year old girl date a 40 year old man that very obviously functions as a parental/mentor to her.
even with the ā€œwell they can date when she’s an adultā€ argument it’s weird. i’m not going to harass you for shipping cartoon characters, but it is mildly concerning how many fans can’t identity the differences between romantic and familial interactions. cedric is someone sofia has grown up with since she was 8 as an uncle- if not father- figure. it would be a very strange dynamic and power imbalance if they did ever end up together.
again, do what you want on your own time, but don’t be shocked when royal magic continues to treat cedric and sofia as just friends because that’s literally all they are and will ever be😭😭

What would you think if in the new Sofia the First show, Sofia sees many of the villains at her new school, but they've all had their memories magically altered as part of their punishment? Prisma, Greylock, and Grimtrix, are there as teachers, and even Wriggley, Wormwood, and Twitch, are there as assistants. Sofia questions whether it is right for the authorities to do this.
Sofia eventually realizes that the villains' memories were altered using an experimental magical machine, and even those who created the machine have had their memories manipulated by the machine. The machine comes to the conclusion that all creatures are evil enough to be deserving of having their memories altered, and it intends to take over the world.
To stop the machine, Sofia reluctantly seeks the help of Prisma, Greylock, Grimtrix, Wriggley, Wormwood, and Twitch, and tells them the truth about their real identities. Even though their memories don't end up returning, Sofia is able to convince them to believe her.
All of them team up together in an attempt to stop the machine, only to be defeated by the machine. However, the machine malfunctions and self-destructs when it realizes that it too is not perfect. When the machine gets destroyed, everyone including Sofia's teammates, get restored back to normal and get their real memories back.
Sofia thanks her teammates and allows them to escape from the authorities to reward them for helping her, thinking that they deserve a second chance. Sofia may have convinced Roland to give a second chance to Cedric in the past, but she thinks those like the protectors won't be so merciful.
what a wildly specific question!
while i definitely think it’s an interesting idea, i don’t really see it being the route royal magic will take. personally, i’d like to see a departure from the original series to make way for new villains and storylines. i’m betting there will be ā€œted danson episodesā€ (to nab a term from quinton reviews) in royal magic, and i am totally fine with that, but at the end of the day this is a new series and i’d like it’s characters and story to reflect as such, rather than using primarily past plots that have already been resolved for the most part.
plus, 11 minute epsiodes will most likely not lend themselves all that well to a plot heavy story such as this, as unfortunate as it may be. definitely a fun idea for a fanfiction or something, but i don’t expect royal magic to be insanely story based, sad as i am about it.

something that has starting to bother me an increasing amount is society praising people for natural abilities, specifically beauty.
what made me really realize this was a few nights ago when i was at a small party with friends and a rather drunk guy ended up flirting with me. now, i don’t blame the guy in this, he was being respectful and obviously wasn’t trying to make me start thinking about the societal implications of his inebriated compliments.
regardless, he called me beautiful a few times, and i struggle to take compliments so i thanked him and joked ā€œit’s because of the makeup.ā€ for context, unless i am around roommates or very close friends/family, i wear what’s considered glamour makeup- extremely winged eyeliner, dark over-the-lip lipstick, pink eyeshadow…it is far from subtle or natural and i never intend it to be. i consistently do my makeup like this and it’s how i like it and how it makes me feel pretty. in response to this he went on some spiel about the difference between makeup and natural beauty and how i have natural beauty and should be proud of that.
and that really got me thinking. why? why should i be proud of getting ā€œgoodā€ genetics? why should i be praised for getting lucky rather than the hour i spend every morning doing my hair and makeup. even if i’m not doing it for the validation of others, it’s something i take pride in being good at after years of figuring out my own style. sure it’s fine to compliment someone’s natural looks, but why in the world am i being praised over something i have no say in?
this goes the same way in my mind as talents do. i hate when people praise someone by saying that they’re talented, rather than acknowledging how much hard work they’ve put in to getting where they are. sure, ariana grande may have naturally been born with a great singing voice, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t work her ass off to train it to where it is today.
another personal example- i played saxophone in middle and high school. i worked off of pure talented and was constantly being rewarded for that. i got first chair, i got awards, i got solos, etc. that is until the talent ran out and i realized i actually had to work to keep maintaining my status. i very quickly stopped caring for the instrument and began loathing band when this happened. meanwhile, my friend who was second chair absolutely loved playing and would practice as much as she could. she is an absolutely incredible musician and is constantly going to extra mile to achieve her goals. however, i hated practicing and wouldn’t look at the sheet music we were supposed to prepare until the day of since i knew i would be fine to sight read. so why was i rewarded and fawned over for just being naturally good when an insanely hard worker was next to me, actually trying to improve? it’s such bullshit.
all that to say, why do we as a society put things people can’t even control up on a pedestal? am i supposed to feel proud when someone says i have nice face proportions or happen to be naturally inclined towards an instrument? that feels like a slap in the face. i’d much rather have something i actually worked for to be drawn attention to. idk man, it’s so dumb in my eyes. i get people are just trying to be nice, but it feels kind of sad. is the best thing you can find to congratulate me on something i didn’t even do?

while i’m not huge into shipping culture at this point in my life, i really do love seeing that the discourse around deltarune ships is incredibly tame. back in the day i know damn well there would have been a war between krusie and suselle shippers, but the worst i’ve seen is basically ā€œyeah lol i only ship one of those and the others just not for me.ā€ it’s genuinely so refreshing to see in a fandom.

does anyone know if there’s a canon explanation for susie’s scleras and teeth color changing between yellow and white, or is it a ā€œit looks better for different spritesā€ stylistic thing? deltarune tend to be pretty precise with character designs, so i highly doubt it’s just overlooked.
in both the light and dark worlds, susie’s sprites change her eyes and teeth between both yellow, or one white and one yellow (there may be both white as well but i can’t think of any off the top of my head).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the eyes may be used to emphasize when she’s surprised, like when kris suddenly grabs her in chapter 3. these pictures are one frame apart, so if it isn’t just stylistic and something happening in-universe to susie’s eyes, that means it can happen very quickly. maybe it’s a monster or reptile trait.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the teeth on the other can i understand a lot less. they change color during the same chapters, so it’s unlikely that she’s doing something to them between scenes that cause a color change. the eyes changing color to show emotion i can get behind, but the teeth randomly switching between white and yellow is really interesting to me. again this could just be an artistic choice and nothing to dig into, but i wanted to know if anyone has any ideas on why it happens!

Now I am by no means an artist- I think my style would be considered ā€œkids book that’s supposed to look overly simplisticā€- but I had A Visionā„¢ļø of @snapscube if she was in UnderedTale or Deltadrune. I tried to fit as many goofs and gaffes from the streams as I could, I’ve enjoyed watching them so much!
