"Shooters are still A thing. Therefore: no one shouldn't complain when someone kills A CEO. Because making rich people unrelated to the suffering of 6-year-olds is totally good because."
What was the point of killing that CEO? How will it improve the health care system? Doesn't it just make it harder to attack the corporation he was in charge of, which role likely just continue honest though nothing happened anyway? Even if the CEO was completely evil, what was the point? Was it just to make someone you don't like suffer? Did you even know the CEO before this incident?
Gosh, I hate the Luigi apology! Especially when they try to pull the "so we should just sit down and politely ask for rides?". My dude, what will violence accomplish? How will killing anyone illegally make anything better in any way shape or form? What is the process here? How does this work? What is the step 2? Because unless your goal is to literally overthrow the government, I'm not really seeing how killing people can help you accomplish your goals.
You want to know how peace can actually solve the issue? By voting! Your elected officials rely on votes in order to keep power. You're elected officials have to care about their voters, because if they don't: they lose power. And if you do not vote: you do not have power over your elected officials. Doing research and voting sound like work? Fine then, don't vote, I don't either for that very reason. But at least I'm not saying "ViOlEnCe Is ThE oNlY aNsWeR" when I can't even be bother to vote!
And everyone sympathizing for the CEO because they don't want to live in a society that normalizes violence. And trust me: you don't either. You don't want the average person to think it's justified to resort to violence for political reasons. Because long beliefs don't magically have A different effect on one's psychology than true beliefs, and the vast majority of people think they are good, and that people they don't like are guilty.
If you normalize good people killing the guilty, then you also normalize bad people killing the innocent. That's not a slippery slope fallacy, that's A logical consequence of most bad people think their good people.
I generally do not like or trust the cops. If there's no other reason to hate them: let it be for how they conduct interrogations. And I have many problems with the US legal system. But I recognize the benefit of the law is that it forces people to abide by a standard that maximizes the punishment of the guilty and minimizes the punishment of the innocent. We can definitely do way better, but the easiest way to do that is to improving the system we currently have, and trying to ignore it or circumvent it is way more likely to make things incredibly worse than they are to make it better.
And trust me, I could go on, I have at least one extra point I could make right now that's alluded to in a previous point. I actually have A Reddit post draft that I barely started a while ago that I should probably finish at some point. But right now I'm really just venting because this gets me angry every time I see it, and I'm kind of annoyed that someone I followed unironically unironically reposted this, I still they thought it was so obviously correct that they didn't need to worry about backlash. And honestly, the Luigi-simping is just an example of a greater problem where people unironically think political violence is justified without ever putting A single iota of thought into how that would actually work. They come to conclusions based entirely off of what feels right, and then they call others naive when they point out how absurd their conclusions are.
I just want people to critically examine the own beliefs more, or at least honestly listen to what others critiques of theirs more.

another thing about jayvik that these goofy ass caitvi stans fail to realize separates it from their favorite ship is that jayce and viktor arent dependent on the other one for self esteem/support. "B-but...Viktor was a eugenicist!"
regardless... he could do bad all by himself without jayce. he didnt wallow and whine about what he was without jayce, he did something bad, but regardless it was his OWN character arc. Viktor isnt dependent on jayce to the point of making him look pathetic, or to the point of calling himself the dirt under jayce's nails...unlike Vi whos whole arc revolves around caitlyn to the point of her forgetting every terrible thing shes done and getting down on her knees to serve her in the 8th ep.
then you have jayce who has his moments but they're more based in ignorance more than anything. still shitty, but ignorant, he never does anything outright malicious from what i can see (unless i missed something yall lmk). And jayce actually has genuine words for viktor. an entire speech about how he just wanted his partner back after everything, a dream of wanting to change the world turned into him just wanting back the person he lost because he cared about him. where tf does caitlyn ever do that? lmao nowhere. she just treats vi like garbage
Ive gone on about how i wouldve loved for vi to team up with ambessa, you really think thatd make her a good person? hell ive said she deserves to be EVIL! downright conniving. its not about if the character in the ship is evil inherently, its about how it balances out in relation to the character theyre being shipped with.
Cait being a dictator is all fine and dandy really...if Vi had anything to say about it beyond one line and if it wasnt followed up by nearly zero consequences. AND if vi got to be her own person, be rightfully angry, if she matched caitlyns energy of "well you're out of my life now i can do bad all by myself without you". instead we got a lapdog...
if we got her feelings for vi at all outside of microexpressions and interviews then it wouldve been fine.
caitvi stans can barely rub their braincells together to think for two seconds why people prefer JayVik over Caitvi and will simply chock it up to misogyny because they just dont like to think i suppose

♥--------♥--------♥
You hated parties. Especially when you only knew the person who dragged you there in the first place. And this party in particular turned into more and more of a nightmare by the minute. You were sitting on an uncomfortable plastic chair in the garden of whichever of Felix’s friends hosted the party, and watched Felix talk to an unnervingly pretty girl who made the most obvious heart eyes at him. And you hated everything about this.
Having a social butterfly as a best friend had always been difficult for your introverted self, but you just couldn’t imagine a life without Felix. He was your bubbly, beautiful, funny ray of sunshine. Your best friend who you trusted with your life. He was also the man you’d been in love with for the past 3 years. And you kept it under wraps as well as you could. Because there wasn’t a chance in hell you would ruin this friendship by confessing to him and finding that he didn’t feel the same.
But Felix was pretty. He was downright gorgeous. And it went beyond his looks, Felix was pretty on the inside. He was kind, respectful, considerate. He was funny and smart and just wonderful in every conceivable way. When he looked at you with his bright grin, your heart made cartwheels in your chest. When he hugged you, he sent goose bumps all over your body. But he didn’t know. I couldn’t know.
You took another sip of your mediocre and very alcoholic cocktail and sighed. It was your third glass, and you didn’t know what they put in there, but it sure didn’t work. This was not how you’d imagined the night going. But it wasn’t surprising either. Wherever Felix went, he ended up making new friends and there was always as least one person hitting on him. It was tiring, really, but you couldn’t do anything about it.
“You look miserable”, a voice said, dragging you from your thoughts. You looked up to find one of Felix’s friends stand in front of you. He looked at you curiously, hair loosely framing his handsome face. “Nah, I’m fine”, you said, trying to get out of the conversation before it had even started. “You’re not though”, he said. “Tell me what’s wrong!” He pouted, giving you his best boba eyes. He was adorable, you had to admit. You sighed.
“Jisung, right?” He gave you an affirmative hum, as he sat down in the empty chair next to you. “Now, Y/N, what’s wrong? Why are you sad at my party?” He remembered your name. You were always surprised when that happened, but it did drag the smallest smile from your lips. It didn’t last long though, because your eyes wandered back to Felix and the girl. You sighed.
“I see”, Jisung said, following your line of sight, “you’re crushing on Lixie.” “I’m not!”, you replied too quickly and immediately covered your blushing face with your hands. “You so are”, he said, “and I get it. I’ve been there.” You lowered your hands and stared at him. “What?” He giggled. “Yeah, way back when I first met him. Followed him around like a puppy.” “How did you get over him?” Jisung grinned and pointed towards another guy who was currently opening a beer bottle with a chopstick. “Minho. Showed me was real love is.” “So, I just need to find my Minho?”, you asked. “That depends.” “On?” “Do you want to get over Lixie? Or do you really only want him?”
Exasperated, you threw your head back and let out a groan. “I see”, Jisung said again, still grinning. You had a feeling he enjoyed this conversation far more than you did. “Why don’t you tell him?”, Jisung asked. “Are you insane?” “Just curious, actually.” You sighed. “He’s my best friend.” Jisung raised his eyebrows. “I know. So?” “So, I don’t want to lose that.” Jisung huffed. “I call bullshit. I’m best friends with Minho. You wouldn’t lose that if you got together.”
You sighed. “You don’t get it.” “No, I do. You think he doesn’t like you back. Which is ridiculous.” Jisung looked at Felix now, watching him brush something off the pretty girl’s shoulder. “You are insane”, you said, taking another sip of your drink, “And blind.” “Oh, her?”, Jisung said, now actively pointing at the girl who seemingly had Felix wrapped around her finger, going by the way he laughed at her every word. “Nah, he’s just trying to make you jealous. She’s in on it.”
The grin on Jisung’s face was almost as bright as the one you loved so much on Felix. “What?!” Your eyes wandered from him to Felix and back again. “You’re shitting me.” “No, I’m serious.” “No way! You’ve just had too much to drink.” Jisung huffed. “That’s rich, coming from you.” He gestured at the now empty glass in your hand.
“What? This stuff does nothing”, you replied with a shrug. He raised an eyebrow. “You sure about that?” “I’m not making up nonsense, now, am I?”, you retorted. Jisung shook his head with a laugh before yelling “Jagi, can you come here for a sec” towards Minho. The older one turned his head, said something to the two guys he’d been talking to and made his way over to you.
“What’s up?”, he said as he reached you. “She doesn’t believe me that Lix is trying to make her jealous and that Hana is in on it”, Jisung explained. “So, she’s blind?” Jisung let out a short laugh and then boxed his boyfriend in the side. “Be nice, babe.” Minho giggled. “Alright, alright. It’s true”, he said to you, “I heard them plan it out.” “You’re for real?” You stared at him with narrow eyes. “So real”, he replied, and for whatever reason, you believed him.
You had to blink multiple times to process the information you had just been given. Felix, your best friend, who you’d been in love with for 3 years now, was currently talking and giggling and getting touchy with a pretty girl to make you jealous? How could that be real? It sounded like a wild fantasy to you. A ridiculous dream. Because that would mean that he liked you too. Your heart lurched in your chest at the thought.
And then, without even noticing it fully, you got up and walked over to him. He beamed when he saw you coming, looking more beautiful than ever and for a moment your knees went weak – thankfully, you didn’t stumble over your own two feet. “You!”, you said when you reached him, finger firmly planted on his chest. “Yes?”, he said, eyebrows raised in anticipation.
That’s when the alcohol hit. The world started spinning, your legs gave out, your balance was gone in an instant. Suddenly, you were caught mid-fall by two strong and very familiar arms. “Had a bit much to drink, did we?”, Felix said with a smirk. You stared at him, his face so pretty but also slightly blurry. “You!”, you said again, more slurred this time. And you knew there was more you wanted to say, but your brain stopped cooperating. “I think we should call it a night”, Felix giggled.
The rest of the night was a blur. The alcohol really did a number on you, and at some point you promised yourself to never again drink cocktails with unknown amounts of booze in them. Everything got very hazy and all you were really sure of was that Felix was by your side until your head hit a pillow and your mind drifted into a dreamless sleep.

I was watching some anime and started thinking about when I used to draw a lot of very sparkly anime eyes when I was younger, and thought I'd do it again. Very soothing.
Y'all have been talking about the beauty of various types of brown eyes, so here's a variety.
These are the characters from the Second Sentinels books (Secondhand Origin Stories, Names in Their Blood, Brittle Idols)
From the top:
Enoch- The quiet and reserved custom-engineered messiah. He was raised and educated by one of the genetesist who built him gene by gene to conquer the world in anticipation of a new golden age. He's not used to having the freedom to make his own choices and consequently makes some very questionable ones that come from a place of deep moral conviction and unexamined trauma.
Issac- Keeps saying he doesn't want anything to do with the world of pro superheroing and has 0 superpowers. Keeps winding up in situations where weapons are pointed at him because he has 0 capacity so not backtalk and because he loves his family. Perpetrator of the nanite incident, and is hoping to go to college and not spend his early adulthood dealing with felony charges.
Opal- She reads a lot of gothic novels (especially more modern, queer ones) but isn't thrilled whenever her actual life starts resembling one- which it turns out is a thing that can happen when you involve yourself in multigenerational superhero's families.
Yael- The only child of the US's most notorious and dangerous supervillians, raised among superheroes after their deaths. But xe's totally fine with that. No hangups at all about the cult that produced xyr genes or how taboo xyr origin has been for almost xyr entire life. Everything is fine and xe's going to be a superhero. Yael's all golden retriever vibes right up until xe's NOT- and xe hasn't got any hangups about that either- nope not at all!
Zipporah- She's got a whole array of genetic modifications and most of them don't work right. Unlike some people, she's perfectly willing to tell you about her trauma and that the process of being genetically rewritten because her foster parents decided she wasn't good enough, and she'll be charming the whole time. But there are plenty of others things you'll never get out of her.
Jamie- The weakest child of a superheroing family, she knows what she wants from her life, but has no expectation of making it. She has no desire to be a rebellious daughter but also 0 capacity to let things go, stay out of the way, or prioritize self-preservation. Her first crush, on Opal, hit her like a mac truck.

I can't find it now but there's a post about suspension of disbelief and how it's broken when the story starts trying to excuse it. "character gets knocked unconscious for hours but there's no further issues from this" okay 👍 "and actually this makes perfect sense because of this and that" um no it doesn't why are you lying to me. like i am willing to ignore the holes and the discrepancies!! all you need to do is let me and not bring unnecessary attention to it!!!
and all that is my issue with the whole robin child soldier argument. like i am willing to ignore it i am willing to engage with the fantasy literally all you need to do is NOT try to convince me that Actually It's Fine Because They Want To Do It or whatever. like literally just shut up about it and i can engage with the fantasy!!
#my dc posting#dc#robin#batman#like. if you want to tell a story and not worry abt the child endangerement thing just DONT BRING IT UP ???#all you're doing when you bring it up is telling me this is something i'm allowed to think abt when it comes to the story#and then you tell me Um Actually It's Fine ?? no! what the fuck are you talking about!!#i am tryinggggg to just have fun n read fics your lil “isnt that child endangerement and kinda fucked up?” “no actually they wouldve done i#anyways bla bla bla batman couldnt have stopped them bla bla bla''#is COUNTERPRODUCTIVEEE#dick grayson#jason todd#tim drake#damian wayne#<- tagging the robins sorry#sorry this just. this topic annoys me so much#...also ''batman couldnt have stopped them/they wouldve done it with or without him'' are literally#just factually incorrect in jason's case. he did not in fact start on his own and the only thing batman wouldve#needed to do to stop him is literally just NOT make him robin BUT- at this point im just beating a dead horse on that topic#w how many times i bring it up lmao#like. in real life you cant just knock a person unconscious for hours with no consequences on them.#but i dont care when it happens in fiction despite being not realistic!! bc its fiction!!!#unless of course the characters out of nowhere do a lil sidequest PSA abt how actually doing that is fine#and completely safe with no risks#yknow??#like if that happened id be annoyed and like no its fucking not fine why are you trying to convince me. just move on and dont bring it up#and I wont bring it up#anyway. yeah these are just some thoughts im having rn sorry its not more coherent and put-together i cant be assed rn lmao

As someone who has been in the EAH and Descendants fandoms, here's my perspective:
Point 1) Descendants didn't get EAH cancelled.
Yes, it kinda did. Eah media is a doll ad first and compelling story second. Descendants gets to be a story first and a doll ad second. Mattel (owners of the eah franchise) at the time of the Eah cancellation and the Descendants (2016 and 2015 respectively) the general public was growing more and more conscious of unrealistic beauty standards for women and had a growing resentment towards stereotypically feminine things (like dolls). This was obviously very bad news for a doll ad. On top of this, Eah's much more successful sister franchise, MH, was dropping in sales, leading Mattel to eventually reboot the series and resetting the lore (making Eah even less relevant). Finally, Mattel had the license from Disney to make Disney Princess dolls. During 2015, Mattel was obviously more focused on Barbie and MH than Disney dolls. This led to Disney not renewing Mattel's license and giving it to Hasbro. This, along with MH losing value, made Mattel lose a LOT of money. EAH, at this point, was on life support, but ultimately, the final nail in the Eah glass coffin was (in my opinion) the launch of Descendants. All of EAH's very small market share was very quickly taken up by Disney. When Disney had Hasbro make Descendants dolls, it was all over for EAH, resulting in its cancellation. Descendants didn't kill EAH but it was the final nail in the coffin.
Point 2) The Descendants movies are good.
Very subjective, I'm not going to say you're wrong for liking or not liking any piece of media, but I am ultimately writing an argument in favour of EAH. I will try to be as unbiased as possible, but I'm sure my biases will be made very apparent.
The original 3 Descendants movies were very good at introducing compelling themes, ideas, and characters, but they never could quite stick the landing and make a satisfying conclusion to anything they introduced. Off the top of my head, here are the most obvious examples in semi chronological order:
The Isle of the Lost:
Really cool fucked up dystopian idea! I loved the franchise focusing on villain kids who had done nothing wrong being imprisoned for life. However, the decision to bring down the barrier felt like it came out of nowhere as most of D3 was about Mal having to deal with actually figuring out how to rule and learning her actions had consequences and than the ending was "actually no the Isle is too fucked to keep" I agree with this but I do feel like they should have had SOME plan for if the hundreds potentially thousands of people imprisoned for 20 years decided they needed revenge.
Mal using magic to "fix" girls appearances:
Extremely cool! I love her being a fucked up fairy godmother in an attempt to get close to actual fairy godmother but the ending of the subplot being Jane is so insecure that she steals the wand felt like and empty twist. Also, Mal's apology felt very empty.
Mal spelling Ben into loving her:
Let me preface this with saying I love my boy Benjamin. Love this plot. The first date was sweat, yet it filled me with dread on first watch because I was sure Ben would at least be somewhat upset with her. Then the carriage scene! Him just casually saying he knew! The look on her face! His downright manic laughter! I was so excited! And then Ben said it was fine and he still loved her. All of the excitement instantly left my body. I feel like he should have been a little mad about it, but I guess he was operating under the assumption that she had a crush on him, and she never corrects him?! I guess we kind of got Ben blowing up on her in the opening of D2, but then he instantly blames himself. Like, Benny, no, she tried to erase your memory. This isn't your fault.
Uma spelling Ben into loving her/Ben being kidnapped:
I find it fucking hilarious that Ben is perpetually a damsel in distress with these movies. Something I don't love is that he is way too forgiving! Ben sweetie, no, she also spelled you into loving her. Don't jump into the water! I did love Harry and Ben's chemistry on the ship, definitely otp (not saying much cause I dislike pretty much everyone else). Basically, same complaints as Mal spelling Ben.
The OctoUma vs. DragonMal fight:
I was so hyped! Then Ben jumped in the water. No epic fight, and Uma just swam away. Missed opportunity.
D3 Audrey:
Love her being a villain. Don't love that she has no consequences for her actions.
Audrey cursing Ben:
Ben, did you not fucking apologize?! I get he was spelled but wtf man! At this point, just give up with women it's a lost cause, my dude. Same complaints with Audrey as Mal and Uma.
Overall, my rating of the original 3 Descendants movies is 5/10, definitely a crashed landing, especially with the 'Yay Girl Power' shit they were trying to do, which just made it so Mal, Uma, and Audrey didn't have to deal with consequences of their actions.
Point 3) Descendants Copied EAH
I think, at best, for Disney, they used very similar concepts and ideas. However, this never went to court, so I can't legally say Descendants is just straight up a copyright infringement. But the case MGA vs. Mattel, I believe, is relevant because the United States uses a thing called case law, meaning that the result of old cases can influence the result of new cases (extremely simplified explanation) . About the actual case, basically, the extremely simplified version of this case is that MGA had extremely popular doll line Bratz, Mattel saw that and said "yeah let's do that, but like Barbie," and made myscene MGA saw this and sued Mattel. Main talking points include:
- 4 characters all of different races (very weird argument makes a tad more since when you look at the dolls)
- Stylized bodies. For example: big lips, big eyes, small waist. (Basically true, Mattel straight up just made Barbie Bratz dolls)
- The fashion. (I mean, yes. Mattel doesn't dress dolls to look like teenagers. Especially not popular teenagers. This is Mattels only line where they look very much like popular girls. While MGA dolls are filled with pop culture references)
MGA lost the case. Which I take to mean that if it would go to court it'd be a similar situation where Descendants I'd different enough it legally wouldn't be an issue but fucking look at this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Merlin Academy is reconning old Descendants lore to make it have basically the same destiny system as EAH. Also, not an especially big piece of 'evidence' but in the song Love Ain't it, the QOH says "...and fear is more important if we're gonna rule for centuries" which is similar to when the EQ says "it's better to be feared than forgotten." Both in the context of evil mom telling good daughter to take over the world with them. But who knows! It's just a serious of very similar concepts. I do ultimately think that Descendants was at least inspired by EAH as early Descendants' concept art is vastly different than what we got.
Point 4) EAH is not lacking in content
Very hard disagree. Our show got cancelled after a significant twist was revealed. Darling Charming and Apple White were revealed to be destined lovers after they kissed. I seem to recall a cut kiss between Harry Hook and Gil (check the actors Instagram) at least our show can have a queer kiss take place! "Just write fanfiction!" Is ignoring 1) we have and will continue to, and 2) we will never get a proper conclusion to the story. But I suppose this isn't something that you would get mad about since no Descendants movie has ever had a proper conclusion. (As I've established above.)
TL;DR - 1)Yes, it did. 2)Not really. 3)Depends on your interpretation of copyright law, but I think yes. 4) Eah got cut off after a major twist, so we are missing at least a warp up.
Nah cause why are EAH fans literally incapable of enjoying the show without bringing another film down?💀 “Omg I can’t believe they cancelled it for descendants—“ buddy, no they didn’t. There were no official statements of EAH being “cancelled”. Also, the descendants movies are good? And no, just because they share similar concepts DOES NOT mean that descendants was “copying” EAH. And idk why the EAH fandom is acting like they’re lacking content as if they don’t have, what, 5 whole ass seasons of the show? Also, if you’re “lacking content” so badly, then just make it yourself? Make edits, write fanfiction, draw fanart. You don’t gotta bring down a show that other people love just because you don’t know how to enjoy media without comparing it to other media💀

Cdream be like: You can't put yourself in the Prison anymore bc of the woke >:(/lh
That man is a mess like it's facinating how messy his vision of reality is for others and himself
it is fascinating fr, and does remind me of how we'd talk a little bit about how his perspective may betray what kind of environment this guy might've been in pre-dsmp. the stick-up-his-ass about rules and rule-following, the neuroticism about conflict, and the ease with which he jumps to punishment as being the appropriate response to people who cause problems (a perspective that, quite evidently, to a certain extent, does apply to himself, doesn't it?) all seems quite indicative of someone who lived in an environment where punishment being the natural consequence of stepping outside the lines was generally something that went unquestioned. of course, this is speculative, and it's not that a #tragicbackstory is necessary to explain what the fuck is up with c!Dream, and it's hardly about justifying the choice to abuse a teenager into behaving, lmao. but while exile served his goals and exile was a lot of petty, spiteful cruelty for petty, spiteful reasons, i do think there's something to be said about how clearly c!Dream hadn't expected c!Tommy to respond quite so severely to exile and how he thought he would be "fine" with potatoes in the prison and the language he used both about exile and his own early prison stay about shit like "getting better" through punishment. of course, punitive justice as a norm is kind of ingrained in our own society (just look at the rhetoric around deserving in this fandom, lmao, which speaks more than well enough for itself) and of course that reflects onto the dream smp as well, considering how many of the characters talk quite freely about the idea of punishment/deserving/what have you, but few characters are quite as obviously a stickler for rule-following as c!dream and exile and then prison are uhhh definitely on the more extreme end of things. anyway. just some food for thought

I saw someone remark somewhere that for the past few years Rick has been writing for his fans rather than his story. The books he's written as of late have been eaten up by manly long-term readers who love this series, but rather than continuing the story and exploring the characters more, he's just giving a bunch of random adventures with no real consequences or substance, more fanservice than story.
see i've heard similar claims. and i could see that for tsats, because of just how heavily he (or mark) leaned into popular fandom interpretations for it, but i don't know how well that justification for these books can hold up the further we get into this new wave of the riordanverse. because no, you're right, there isn't much story at all for a 300+ page book. but there is also so little consistency of characterizations and the universe as a whole.. and i just question how any long-term fan of said characters/universe could see that and appreciate it (despite said fans suposedly eating it up which just.. baffling tbh).
idk i guess what i'm saying is.. if it's fanservice. it's tacky. it's cheap. it's like.. going into a party city for a yankees cap for an annabeth costume instead of using a legit quality hat with the real logo on it. there's this facade of making it for the fans without the followthrough of actually caring about the fans. if fanservice is meant to please the fans of that media, i feel like the right way to go about it would be to use said media as a base level and spin into inconsequential fluff from there. make it fun, but not at the cost of the integrity of the media people have clearly loved for so long.

YES YES YES
After watching s2 and thinking about what could've been better, I couldn't help but think about the fmab finale, which I think had a very satisfactory resolution of conflicts.
As perfectly pinpointed by op, fmab isn't immune to criticism, it had its fair share of problems, but the political conflict was handled so much better. Because the characters who had harmful actions simply recognized that and worked to try to remediate those.
I really like Caitlyn, especially s1!Caitlyn, she's my wife, I love her, but the way she was handled in s2 just threw me off. I wasn't upset about her getting on a dark path, but they had at least two very basic ways of doing it well, and they fumbled:
They could either go on the villain, irredeemable path, which is pretty much self-explanatory. Which is completely fine.
Or, if they really wanted to redeem her, they could make her reflect on her actions, feel guilt, and make her put in the work to make things right (or, at least, a little less wrong).
Instead they chose to go the "oh she did all of those things because she was consumed by revenge and grief, but then Vi called her a cupcake, she let all of those feelings go away (without any self-reflection btw cause who cares), let Jinx go, and now everything is fine :D" route, which doesn't make sense at all.
At the end of the day, she lost her eye, but, out of that, she is back at her privileged life with her girlfriend and doesn't seem to do anything to (at least try to) change or remediate the system that oppressed Zaunites and her actions that supported it.
There's no moment where she faces the consequences for her actions, she doesn't reflect on the wrong she did to Zaunites and feels guilt, Vi doesn't call her out, and no one else does it either.
If they wanted her to be good in the end, they should have made her build up Zaun brick by brick with her bare hands.
It just assassinated her character, s1 Caitlyn had such a compassionate heart and desire to make things right. Why don't have her reflect, realize she was wrong, reclaim that, and actually work to make things right? If you don't want to do that just let her be a villain then 😭
Don't even let me start on the implications the ending that we got had on Vi's character, she would never let it slide like that. Since the beginning, one of her main pillars is fighting against Piltover's oppression and you're telling me that she wouldn't do anything about her own girlfriend corroborating that oppression?
It just felt unnatural
i recently finished watching fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood and it gave me ideas of how caitlyn could've had a better resolution to her character arc. the show definitely has its problems. for example, scar wanting to kill the soldiers responsible for the genocide of ishvalans is portrayed as just him wanting revenge or how the ishvalan genocide is mostly told from the perspective of war criminals, the conflict in fma has a better conclusion compared to arcane.
in fma, characters like roy, riza, and alex all express guilt for what they did during the ishvalan campaign of extermination and believe there should be consequences for what happened. by the end of the show, roy becomes the leader of amestris and talks about helping ishvalans return to their homes and restoring their culture.
what should've happened in arcane was caitlyn feeling guilt over oppressing zaunites and at least try to use her wealth to alleviate the poverty in zaun. caitlyn losing an eye is similar to roy losing his eyesight but the latter is more powerful as symbolism since he acknowledges his role in the genocide of ishvalans and is remorseful about it, the same can't be said for caitlyn.
this is why i don't think caitlyn losing an eye is redemption and is meaningful symbolism. roy becoming blind symbolizes how he was blind to the corruption of the military. in comparison, caitlyn losing an eye doesn't feel substantial since she's never confronted by anyone for what she did to zaun.

thirteen is incredibly aware of how her actions are perceived and incredibly unaware of how her identity is perceived. like. that’s the Point of her meeting the fugitive doctor. that she can stand next to herself and not know herself. but she knows her own actions. the real recognition of herself in fugitive isn’t when she unearths the tardis or when fugitive calls herself the doctor. its when fugitive hands someone a loaded gun that will backfire and kill them only if they shoot at her first. because that’s what thirteen would do. you know?

cressida's storyline was genuinely shameful tbhhh it's like they started rewriting it in the first half of the season then completely forgot about the changes they'd made to make it fit the book plot and it just ends up making everyone else look bad😐 every character in the second half got a "penelope did nothing wrong" lobotomy so we ended up with eloise completely ignoring cressida being sold off to an horrible man (when she made every effort to support her in the first half of the season) and for some reason resenting her for pretending to be lady whistledown? Then they somehow frame her ignoring colin's offensively bad pleas as it being her turning away from redemption when all she's trying to do is escape being trapped in the country with her likely abusive aunt... and it ends with her meeting her horrible fate and it still being framed as tragic only to immediately juxtapose it with the bridgerton family winning the idgaf war while gleefully seeing off francesca and her future dead husband. The bridgertons were the villains of the season frfr
#bridgerton#almost as bad as marina's plot in season one. every horrible decision in this show revolves around penelope meeting no consequences ever#this is not an anti post or anything idc about the fandom ill forget about this show tomorrow but i need to get this off my chest#they had to give penelope a fairy tale ending WHICH IS FINE but they somehow did it by surgically removing everyone's personality#INCLUDING HERS#benedict's bi storyline was bad also im sorry. paul literally has like 4 lines of dialogue and he was really cool#i love tilley but she should have been cut😭 if they wanted to establish he was bi (given we know theyre not genderbending sophie)#they should have made the whole subplot about him being attracted to a man instead of a 5 minute footnote in the last episode#i liked francesca and her husband whose name idr but it felt like they were framing it as him not being her 'great love'#considering what happens to him i fjnd it childish and meanspirited soul mates aren't real and he deserves a lttl respect considering.. lmao#what else. the dialogues were horrible. especially the ones between penelope and colin in the second part im sorry#they need to fire the make up and hair department. every reference to queen charlotte felt like a wahh pls watch my show ad#i miss anthony they should change the books to make him the villain of every season bb please come back to ruin your sibilings relationships#portia and philippa were peak as always. violet deserves her own season. we need to put eloise out of her misery pls leave her in scotland#rant overrr#publishing it on my sideblog actually i feel like im gonna lose followers just for having watched this show lmaoo
