Jax’s behavior is legit pretty fascinating
Yes it’s time I ramble about the purple twink.
Fast Food Masquerade did something crazy in that it actually got me to start empathizing with the asshole because Jax’s visible frustration throughout this adventure was too real.
And in fact, it’s why I think Jax was acting so “different” towards the latter half of the episode.
This adventure was Too. Damn. Real.
Now, Jax’s character is actually really simple. He even sums up his whole schtick in the pilot.
“I’m fine with doing whatever, as long as I get to see funny things happen to people.”
Then in a hilarious bit of instant karma, promptly gets hit in the face with a gloink
The “-who aren’t me” part of that self description pretty much goes without saying.
Immediately after this happens, Jax’s little laidback exterior gets so rattled that he suddenly feels the need to take control and starts assigning tasks to everyone. And his casual attitude only returns once he feels like he’s not in any position for ridicule, by redirecting the potential for ridicule onto others. This is his defense mechanism.
Jax needs to feel in control, so he deliberately controls whatever situation he’s in to get the results he wants.
Something that I’ve always appreciated about Jax from a meta perspective is that he’s a character who actively moves the story forward, usually because he wants to satisfy his urge to create chaos.
And that’s the main thing about Jax, he’s really destructive.
Like…almost pointlessly destructive.
But, y’know what? It makes sense. Because he’s in a video game.
Where else can you be as needlessly and excessively chaotic than in a game where you can do pretty much anything because nothing is real?
Jax can hurt whoever and wreck whatever because if he’s living by video game logic, then there are no lasting consequences to his actions.
Jax even goes so far as to refer to Pomni, and by extension the other trapped humans, as a “character” in the pilot. Which goes to show how little he wants to consider them as people.
You can’t really hurt a character. And if used correctly, a character can be entertaining.
And that’s all Jax really wants out of his new life in the Circus, entertainment. Because the worst thing you can be while stuck in a game is be bored.
But of course, even in games, your actions have certain consequences that are just unavoidable.
And Episode 4 really beat Jax’s yellow teeth in with that not-so-fun little reminder. Because this bit right here
Pretty much was the precedent for how bad Jax was gonna get it this time.
And it all starts with Gangle absolutely refusing to let his usual bullshit slide by personally making sure that there will be consequences.
This is the first crack in Jax’s mask, he’s visibly concerned and annoyed that he no longer is allowed to be himself lest he risks getting punished. And even more baffling is that for the first time, Gangle asserts her power over him. She actually does something about his behavior, ripping the wind right out of his sails. Not only that but she continually enforces her authority, making it harder on him to get the upper hand again.
Now his interaction with Zooble is really interesting, because it’s the first time we see him at his most normal.
I don’t think he’s trying to tease them here, I feel like he’s genuinely curious about Zooble’s way of “playing” the game, because remember, it’s been a long time since they’ve been on an adventure together, if at all. Zooble’s excuse of wanting to avoid punishment makes sense because they witnessed first hand that Caine’s unstable personality is capable of some legitimate danger.
Of course, Jax believes that there isn’t any real risk involved. The only immediate menace to him and his current desire to just get through the day, is Gangle and her new mask.
At this point he’s not trying to be destructive or disruptive. He’s fully apathetic, because being forced to act like a minimum wage salary employee is not fun in the slightest. He can’t make things fun for himself, so he refuses to participate entirely.
As the clock mocks him with every slow tick, his mask chips more and more.
Jax isn’t saying this to be calculatingly rude or hurtful, he’s not doing this to upset Gangle. He’s being sincere, which is why he’s not smiling.
Because Gangle is much easier to push around and go along with whatever he wants her to do when she’s in Tragedy mode. She’s more “fun” that way.
In other words, he really hates this new dynamic they’ve got going on.
But this little comment, just makes things even worse for him because now Gangle goes from enforcing her authority to straight up abusing it by letting herself abuse him for a change.
It’s crazy how Jax’s main concern here is making sure this torture scene is just between them. He really hates being humiliated, more so than getting physically hurt.
The man has some serious issues, but c’mon we already knew that.
So Jax is finally getting a taste of his own medicine and it completely emasculates him. To the point where he just defaults to doing whatever Gangle tells him to do just to avoid feeling like that again. Now the mask is fully stripped off, he’s openly exasperated and powerless. On top of that he has no real impulse to ridicule or ruffle anyone’s feathers anymore, because for the first time in probably a long while, he’s even more miserable than everyone else.
And what does misery love?
Company
As someone who’s worked in retail for a while, nothing helps keep you sane more than having a little of bit of camaraderie when struggling to survive in corporate hell.
Something that really stood out to me in this episode is the limited use in background music, especially when in Spudsy’s, where you either get muzak to sell the ambiance of a public eatery or silence with the occasional machinery noise.
And yeah, that’d be enough to make shit as immersive as possible. It’s not a coincidence that the restaurant looks like a McDonald’s when Gooseworx even said it was directly modeled after it. It’s uncanny, how real this setup feels.
Uncomfortably uncanny.Jax seething at the clock is a relatable struggle.
The mask immediately comes back on once Jax no longer has any obligation to stick around.
But Jax can’t even enjoy his freedom. His day is officially over, but the sting of the experience still lingers. The adventure wasn’t just boring or frustrating, it was humbling, in every terrible way. This wasn’t a game, it was real life.
And I think the last kick in the teeth was this license plate waiting for him in the parking lot (Why did Caine make them drive “home”? That’s just extra)
One is the loneliest number
Jax doesn’t hide the fact that he’s an asshole, he’s almost proud of it. He practically relishes getting a rise out of everyone. He is well aware that nobody likes him, but I think this where he starts realizing that it actually bothers him.
Everyone has talked about that very brief moment where Jax’s expression changed towards the end of Candy Carrier Chaos, when Ragatha was talking about Kaufmo’s funeral and we get to see him actually get sad for a change, before immediately shaking it off and stomping away in irritation.
Jax showed no concern over Kaufmo’s abstraction in the pilot, so why would he feel sad about it in that moment? Does he secretly care about his fellow humans and just doesn’t want to admit it?
Maybe. But personally, I think the others choosing to morn those who’ve abstracted like they’re dead makes him seriously uncomfortable. Because it serves as a reminder that even in this world, there are still major consequences when some things aren’t taken seriously.
Jax doesn’t want to consider real life consequences. None of them even look like real people, so why should he bother treating everyone like real people?
So when he sees everyone else getting closer and being good to each other, it’s annoying and weird. The idea that they need to look out for one another feels pathetic. Treating abstraction seriously means it’s a real danger, and that would mean that he’s also susceptible to experiencing it one day.
And when you’ve built up a reputation over making everyone miserable, who’s gonna wanna remember you?
In a show that’s clearly all about building relationships, Jax’s destructive behavior is really gonna cost him.
#boy howdy this one took a while#had to watch the episode too many times to decide what to talk about#now that we’re potentially looking at a long haitus for the next episode I might start making character analysis for everyone else thus far#just to keep myself sane#I’ve talked about Ragatha for too long it’s time I expanded a little#gonna sweep up the Ragatha brain rot to make room for the others#Jax is not a character I’m particularly fond of but he is fun to dissect#he’s a loser but not my kind of loser#his focus episode is definitely gonna be interesting#the amazing digital circus#tadc#tadc jax#jax#character analysis#fast food masquerade#biscuit bakes

I AM HAVING THOUGHTS. (Apologies to my followers who do not follow me for Voltron just ignore this post)
I haven’t really seen much about this in particular so I don’t know if it’s an unpopular opinion or not, but I just did not like Hunk and Pidge in the last few seasons, even when it first came out back when I was younger. I really liked them in the first few seasons, I liked how they were like a little trio. But as the show built on Lance’s insecurities, it made their friendship in the later seasons… bad. Because not only was it actively acknowledged that Lance had these doubts about himself, but Hunk and Pidge just seemed to confirm his doubts about himself.
Yeah, sometimes their antics towards Lance were played off as comedic, but unlike the typical teasing amongst friends where everyone gets a laugh out of it, Lance seemed hurt more often than not. He didn’t seem to find these things funny.
They went from a cute little trio to a duo who actively made fun of the ‘odd one out’ because he wasn’t as ‘smart’ as them. And no, Lance wasn’t techy, but he also wasn’t STUPID. He was in an elite military school, you don’t get into those places by being stupid. Sure, he wasn’t a science whizz or anything, but that was never what he was there for anyways. He wasn’t trying to become a scientist or an engineer, he was there to be a pilot. There are other ways of being smart that don’t involve math and science.
Overall, Pidge and Hunk’s treatment of Lance and disregard for his feelings and opinions in the last couple of seasons was just gross. It’s not how real friends treat each other.
And then the game show makes it SO MUCH WORSE.
It felt like a really bitter punch in the gut after all the talk in the show about his insecurities and then it barely gets acknowledged, and THEN the game show episode basically puts it ALL INTO STONE that his insecurities are VERY FOUNDED, that his team, his FRIENDS all think he’s stupid. Then the poor treatment from the rest of the team is never brought up again and he just. Becomes a farmer. It really just sucks because it felt like it was all “he’s insecure but he can overcome those insecurities and reach his potential through facing them head on!” and it suddenly shifted to “ACTUALLY everyone does think he’s useless and stupid and also he never embraces his potential after the show he becomes a farmer lol”
I’ve been told a few times that I shouldn’t expect anything beyond what was given, because it’s a kids show and that kind of depth isn’t warranted.
In my opinion, the fact that it’s a kids show makes it WORSE.
You’re showing this guy’s best friends treating him like absolute garbage without any consequences ever. There is no apology, or a definite stop to the behaviour, his friends just get to use him as the butt of the joke even when he doesn’t find it funny. Lance is even shown to be hurt by their words. What kind of message is that sending kids?
Like. It’s showing them that one, it’s okay if their friends treat them horribly, because it’s ’just a joke’ so it doesn’t matter if they hurt you, and two, it’s showing kids that they can treat their friends like this without any consequences. As long as it’s funny to you, it’s fine. These are both HORRIBLE messages for kids.
Tldr: the borderline bullying from Hunk and Pidge was just unnecessary. They should’ve just cut it, because it made Hunk and Pidge very unlikeable as characters overall.

I don't have it anymore since it was a one-off experiment I ran exactly once but I did make a game centered around a (virtual) dXY table that changed X and Y because it was secretly rolling on a d555 with a lot of repeated entries.
It was a very free-form game consisting mostly of this table, which was a 5x5x5 matrix that I used some basic math to get a 2d "slice" of with the angle and starting depth being based on a few numbers I as the DM could input (iirc they were danger, plan viability, and thematic appropriateness) and the entries were varying degrees of success, partial success, and success-with-consequences. None of this was told to the players, who were told to just say what they wanted to do (it's fine because I'm very good at improvised RP, your milage may vary), and the fact every action moves the game forwards somehow combined with being entirely episodic - each session is a single mission - made for a pace and vibe really close to a TV comedy.
The premise helped a lot with that, the players were time agents correcting incidents between the years -5000 and 2500, but they're not allowed to know what happens after that and just have a list of loose but oddly specific requirements that the timestream has to meet in order for Whatever Needs to Happen post-2500 to go off without a hitch. For the one test game I did the problem was that Karl Marx fell way too hard for a girl while in college, settled down, got a normal job, and never got around to the whole communism thing. This is a problem because according to the higher-ups Russia needs to spend at least half of the 20th century under the rule of a party which calls itself communist and claims to follow the teachings of Karl Marx, regardless of their actual ideological principles or those of old Karl, so the gang need to go back in time and make him break up.
The party ended up breaking Karl Marx's heart so badly that he never got over it and, per the end-of-session timestream repercussion summary, communism became an explicitly sexist movement. I didn't plan that originally but I wanted to acknowledge how much they broke this dude. It was almost a little scary. This would lead to many feminist movements being fiercely and vocally anti-communist, which fascists used to infiltrate and eventually take over the Australian government. The timestream rules don't mention Australia so this is considered a job well done.
Hi! Your posts about d66 tables from a couple days ago have made me wonder, what other "formats"* of random tables are possible with any combination of no more than 2 dice**? I tried to google that but I don't know how to phrase the question
* by format i mean total number of items in the table
** of course I mean dice from a classic dice set: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20
Assuming you want an evenly weighted table (i.e., each "number" has the same likelihood of coming up), you can in principle produce a table with any number of entries which is a multiple of the prime factors of the number sides on the available dice.
A d6 and a d10 between them offer prime factors of 2, 3, and 5 (the remaining dice in the standard polyhedral set furnish no additional prime factors), so using these dice alone you can construct an evenly weighted table with any number of entries which can be expressed as a multiple of 2, 3 and 5, in any combination.
Note that this isn't quite the same as simply multiplying the number of faces on the dice together, since we can "remove" unwanted prime factors by reading the dice in ranges. For example, a d6 and a d10 can produce an evenly weighted 60-entry table, but they can also produce an evenly weighted 30-entry table by reading the d6 as 1–2, 3–4, 5–6, or an evenly weighted 15-entry table by reading both the d6 and the d10 in spans of two. A similar trick with a pair of d6s can produce tables with 9 or 18 evenly weighted entries.
Limiting ourselves to no more than two dice basically just puts a limit on the number of prime factors we can include to make up the number of entries on a single table, which is where dice other than the d6 and the d10 come in handy; for example, the d4 nets us a pair of twos if we happen to need more than one, while the d20 gives us a pair of twos and a five to play with.
(Now, if you're also interested in unevenly weighted tables, that's where the question gets fun – there are a lot of ways to mathematically combine a pair of dice beyond just adding them together! Consider, for example, the distribution of results for 1d6x1d6, or for making a d66-style roll, but reading the results without regard for sequence, such that 1,2 and 2,1 are considered to be the same roll.)

My thoughts on season 7
I loved season 7. I really do! Yet, I can’t help but feel disappointed with what could be the final season of the series.
I feel so disappointed because it had everything I could want and more, it was comfortable. Too comfortable.
MAJOR SPOILER ALERT FOR SEASON 7
Rayla x Callum aka Rayllum
I’ve mentioned before that season six felt like it was straight out of a fanfic and it was magical. I really loved it, because it also worked for the story. It made sense that those things happened, because that’s where they were up to relationship wise. It was the calm before the storm, emphasising all that they had to lose in the coming battle.
Now don’t get me wrong, I squealed at every rayllum moment in season 7. But unlike last season, it didn’t feel like it fit the story. This season was suppose to be intense - it’s a story that has been building up for six seasons - this is the climax. And yet, they spent half the season basically in a domestic blissful ignorance in the Silvergrove.
I can understand some time there. Some of that needed to be in there - they did believe that it was truly over. It made the fact that when they find out that they failed their last mission all the more devastating.
BUT it was too much. And it feels very wrong to say that because I loved it so much. But a lot of that didn’t shouldn’t have fit into the story before the big fight that’s what season six was for.
Snake boi Callum aka dark magic Callum
The trailer suggests, and all the promo, basically suggests this massive struggle between Callum and dark magic. And there is, kinda. But I have two main problems with how it was dealt with.
1. That whole talking to himself scene felt like it was put in just so that they could have something to grab for the trailer. It had some substance, it showed the internal struggle Callum was facing. The fact that even through he found his true north, it doesn’t mean he is completely perfect. But that leads to my next point:
2. There were no real consequences to Callum using dark magic in the end. Sure, he got his white streak. But at the starscraper Kosmos tells Callum, that if he is ever to use dark magic again he would be lost to it. But, he’s not?
It was an intense scene, Callum having no choice but to turn to dark magic if he wants to trap Aaravos forever. But the consequence is dark magic would have a firm grip on his soul - Aaravos would be able to control him. And in the end Aaravos is temporarily defeated and it never actually happens.
This would be completely fine if there was more story coming (I talk about that in the next point) and it could be (fingers crossed). But there’s a chance that it won’t. If the story continues, I can see this becoming a massive problem for them later down the line when Aaravos returns.
But if we were to treat this season as the final season, all of that build up just fizzled away. We won’t get to see the long term consequences of what happened.
Which brings me to the next thing:
There is no real win at the end of the day, but they treat it as one.
There were so many ways they could have defeated, or temporarily defeated Aaravos. In the end it’s only temporary - another 7 years and 19 days until he returns. And we may never get to actually see that.
It was a situation where they won, but they also didn’t, which is a way to end it (see my last point about Merlin). There was a way to trap him (kinda) forever in a coin much like the pearl did I don’t think they were devastated enough that all their work is only a temporary reprieve.
Again, if we knew the story was continuing that would be the perfect way to continue it. They faced him down once, but have only stopped him temporarily and need to work on stopping him once and for all. But there might not be a chance to tell that story. If it just ends there, like that, there is no real resolution after all that build up. I would be incredibly disappointed if that’s where it ended.
It was somehow too fast and too slow
A lot of things felt rushed, there wasn’t enough time to really address every little thing. The beautiful thing about season three is that everything was connected, even when it doesn’t seem like it. Everything lead to the battle at the storm spire, where all of the storyline’s that had been established, had come to some conclusion or another. Even though that wasn’t the end of the series, it could have been left there and still feel like a complete show.
I’m so glad it didn’t end there, but if it did it would’ve been okay. If the series does end with season 7, all those established storylines, all that build up over the seasons don’t get a conclusion. We see that with dark magic Callum, where it was set up to be a big thing just for it not to be.
Next point: Soren should have died (PLEASE put down the pointy sticks and hear me out)
I didn’t want Soren to die, I still don’t want Soren to die. But Soren’s death would be devastating to both sides. It would be in line with his character to take a fatal blow while protecting someone else.
It would’ve really added an edge to the final battle, the heroes facing the reality that they (temporarily) won at a cost. Basically all of the arch dragons die which is something, but it doesn’t feel as personal as a member of their own team dying in the midst of the fight.
Added bonus that it would really send Claudia off the edge. She’s just lost her father, she’s just lost Terry, now she’s lost her brother. It would make more sense why she sides with Aaravos, because she is hurt and is taking it out against the world. Instead she just accepts it and escapes to wait it out for Aaravo’s return - which we might not even get to see.
If Soren didn’t die, something equally as devastating would need to happen.
Sorry for the long post, if you’re still here, hi! Basically what I am saying is that if the show ends here that would be disappointing, not only because it would be over, but because season 7 is not a series finale season. It has been left incomplete. I can see why they wanted to do that, in the hopes that they do get to write more. And I’m sure it’s a terribly tricky balance to write in the hopes of something more but the chance that there won’t be. But they did do it with season 3.
I think a big reason why I feel like this doesn’t work as a season finale is because they are acting as though it’s all over. There’s no sense of the doom that is to come, a whole “we haven’t finished but we won’t give up” kind of ending.
I thought about the ending of Merlin - spoiler alert if you haven’t watched it - it has a completely heartbreaking ending. But it works because the story feels complete. Even though everything didn’t work out, the story was done. Everything was tied up. There was this sense of “we won but we lost” yet the story is complete. AND the added bonus of being able to continue the story with its ending if they so desired.
Despite all of this there are so many things that they did well (angry Ezran and Terry’s realisation being my favs). Don’t get me wrong, I really did love season 7. But it could’ve been better and less fan service.
Thanks for listening to my little all over the place Ted talk. Let’s hope this isn’t the end, cause that would be very disappointing.

The only grmatically correct option without changing anything besides the [blank] is "drunk", because that action is in Past Perfect, so you should use the Past Participle of "drink".
You can remove the "had" and add "drank", as then the sentence would be in Past Simple.
3. You can remove the [blank] and write "I had that morning", but it actually changes more than it seems, as it still changes the tense from Past Perfect to Past Simple. It's just that you're using the Past Simple version of "have" instead of the Past Perfect operator "had".
Of course, when the tense of one verb in a sentence changes, you should check if it doesn't cause problems anywhere else, but if the fragment shown is the whole sentence, it's fine either way (even though in case 1. you first say "had drunk" and then "was kicking in", because one is the consequence of the other and usage of Past Simple in one of them is precedented).
I mean, going by what I was taught learning English as a second language, case 1. (and therefore using Past Perfect tense) is the correct option in this context. On the other hand, it's oftentimes very nebulous when to use Past Perfect and Past Simple, so I'm always happy to see how everyone else doesn't get it either and doesn't care.
okay I just typed out a sentenced and then immediately second-guessed myself and now I'm genuinely curious.
"The caffeine from the coffee I had [blank] that morning was kicking in".... what word would you put in the blank?
Or just completely change the sentence structure?
Now I'm just curious to see what everyone thinks about this!

I can't find it now but there's a post about suspension of disbelief and how it's broken when the story starts trying to excuse it. "character gets knocked unconscious for hours but there's no further issues from this" okay 👍 "and actually this makes perfect sense because of this and that" um no it doesn't why are you lying to me. like i am willing to ignore the holes and the discrepancies!! all you need to do is let me and not bring unnecessary attention to it!!!
and all that is my issue with the whole robin child soldier argument. like i am willing to ignore it i am willing to engage with the fantasy literally all you need to do is NOT try to convince me that Actually It's Fine Because They Want To Do It or whatever. like literally just shut up about it and i can engage with the fantasy!!
#my dc posting#dc#robin#batman#like. if you want to tell a story and not worry abt the child endangerement thing just DONT BRING IT UP ???#all you're doing when you bring it up is telling me this is something i'm allowed to think abt when it comes to the story#and then you tell me Um Actually It's Fine ?? no! what the fuck are you talking about!!#i am tryinggggg to just have fun n read fics your lil “isnt that child endangerement and kinda fucked up?” “no actually they wouldve done i#anyways bla bla bla batman couldnt have stopped them bla bla bla''#is COUNTERPRODUCTIVEEE#dick grayson#jason todd#tim drake#damian wayne#<- tagging the robins sorry#sorry this just. this topic annoys me so much#...also ''batman couldnt have stopped them/they wouldve done it with or without him'' are literally#just factually incorrect in jason's case. he did not in fact start on his own and the only thing batman wouldve#needed to do to stop him is literally just NOT make him robin BUT- at this point im just beating a dead horse on that topic#w how many times i bring it up lmao#like. in real life you cant just knock a person unconscious for hours with no consequences on them.#but i dont care when it happens in fiction despite being not realistic!! bc its fiction!!!#unless of course the characters out of nowhere do a lil sidequest PSA abt how actually doing that is fine#and completely safe with no risks#yknow??#like if that happened id be annoyed and like no its fucking not fine why are you trying to convince me. just move on and dont bring it up#and I wont bring it up#anyway. yeah these are just some thoughts im having rn sorry its not more coherent and put-together i cant be assed rn lmao

oot zelda doodle i liked :’-)))
#tloz#ocarina of time#oot#zelda#my handwriting is very very bad so i actually added alt text/image description#which i should already be doing with everything anyway. i wanna go thru and update some old stuff with that too#but yeah anyway. all the stuff this series presents about being Fated To Be Something or Fated To End Up Somewhere#even if that thing or place is ultimately Horrible and the consequences primarily occur off camera or post-canon after the Happy Ending#characters who end the story with pretty much nothing and also you find out later they inadvertently cause a far worse disaster#than even the one they gave up everything to prevent#oot zelda’s infinite number of issues and almost guaranteed lack of happiness or normality for the rest of her life#even after ‘fixing everything’ in literally the best possible way she could figure out how. given everything she knew#and then blaming herself for accidentally allowing everything to go wrong in the first place. by trying to fix it#and she was literally just a kid going insane from prophetic visions while simultaneously being disbelieved by everyone around her#except impa but she’s a whole other situation entirely. with a whole other set of baggage on the other end of the spectrum#i just rambled sos so much oops. anyway yea oot zelda#its fine. i throw up when i think about her. its fine

Cdream be like: You can't put yourself in the Prison anymore bc of the woke >:(/lh
That man is a mess like it's facinating how messy his vision of reality is for others and himself
it is fascinating fr, and does remind me of how we'd talk a little bit about how his perspective may betray what kind of environment this guy might've been in pre-dsmp. the stick-up-his-ass about rules and rule-following, the neuroticism about conflict, and the ease with which he jumps to punishment as being the appropriate response to people who cause problems (a perspective that, quite evidently, to a certain extent, does apply to himself, doesn't it?) all seems quite indicative of someone who lived in an environment where punishment being the natural consequence of stepping outside the lines was generally something that went unquestioned. of course, this is speculative, and it's not that a #tragicbackstory is necessary to explain what the fuck is up with c!Dream, and it's hardly about justifying the choice to abuse a teenager into behaving, lmao. but while exile served his goals and exile was a lot of petty, spiteful cruelty for petty, spiteful reasons, i do think there's something to be said about how clearly c!Dream hadn't expected c!Tommy to respond quite so severely to exile and how he thought he would be "fine" with potatoes in the prison and the language he used both about exile and his own early prison stay about shit like "getting better" through punishment. of course, punitive justice as a norm is kind of ingrained in our own society (just look at the rhetoric around deserving in this fandom, lmao, which speaks more than well enough for itself) and of course that reflects onto the dream smp as well, considering how many of the characters talk quite freely about the idea of punishment/deserving/what have you, but few characters are quite as obviously a stickler for rule-following as c!dream and exile and then prison are uhhh definitely on the more extreme end of things. anyway. just some food for thought
#my asks !!#tw abuse#it's part of why i get a little uncomfortable with the rhetoric about abuser/victim that is so common on the internet these days#bc there's often this notion of these two categories as being mutually exclusive completely distinct groups of people#and well honestly being abused normalizes abuse to a person? many people who think beating a child is fine actually were beat themselves#if you live in a world where the framework exists that punishment is the natural consequence for breaking the rules#then you will believe and often later on enforce the idea of punishment as the natural consequence for breaking the rules#there's stuff with c!dream re: this topic that's more speculative and there's stuff that's less so#(especially if you look at the weird ways he seems to be about his own redemption to c!wilbur during pogtopia)#(and that in relation to the consequences of the revolution)#but anyway. just a little ramble

I saw someone remark somewhere that for the past few years Rick has been writing for his fans rather than his story. The books he's written as of late have been eaten up by manly long-term readers who love this series, but rather than continuing the story and exploring the characters more, he's just giving a bunch of random adventures with no real consequences or substance, more fanservice than story.
see i've heard similar claims. and i could see that for tsats, because of just how heavily he (or mark) leaned into popular fandom interpretations for it, but i don't know how well that justification for these books can hold up the further we get into this new wave of the riordanverse. because no, you're right, there isn't much story at all for a 300+ page book. but there is also so little consistency of characterizations and the universe as a whole.. and i just question how any long-term fan of said characters/universe could see that and appreciate it (despite said fans suposedly eating it up which just.. baffling tbh).
idk i guess what i'm saying is.. if it's fanservice. it's tacky. it's cheap. it's like.. going into a party city for a yankees cap for an annabeth costume instead of using a legit quality hat with the real logo on it. there's this facade of making it for the fans without the followthrough of actually caring about the fans. if fanservice is meant to please the fans of that media, i feel like the right way to go about it would be to use said media as a base level and spin into inconsequential fluff from there. make it fun, but not at the cost of the integrity of the media people have clearly loved for so long.
#i hope this came off well.. my brain has been working on half capacity at best today#basically.. i'd be fine if it was a no consequences story if it actually felt like fanservice#<- i think thats what i mean#anon <3#asks#pjo#wottg#rr crit

thirteen is incredibly aware of how her actions are perceived and incredibly unaware of how her identity is perceived. like. that’s the Point of her meeting the fugitive doctor. that she can stand next to herself and not know herself. but she knows her own actions. the real recognition of herself in fugitive isn’t when she unearths the tardis or when fugitive calls herself the doctor. its when fugitive hands someone a loaded gun that will backfire and kill them only if they shoot at her first. because that’s what thirteen would do. you know?
#shakes thirteen. IDENTITY ISSUES GIRL!!!!!!!#and its like this hyperawareness of what she Does rather than what she Is plays into the timeless child thing too.#because she doesn’t break out of the matrix by. i mean she has an ‘im the doctor’ moment. its Not an ‘im the timeless child’ moment.#which feels pointed! and makes when she faces the master later and claims that Yeah This Was Good For Her Actually. She’s More Now. like!!!!#I know what you are!!!! liar!!!!!!!!! liar putting up a facade to someone who has hurt you deeply and whose perception of you has been#suddenly proven to be more deeply rooted in what you are than what you do!!!!!!!!!#and then when she gets back to her tardis she’s Not fine about it because. how could she be.#but hey. she still proves herself to be the doctor in the end. because she can’t pull the trigger.#but she’ll sure as hell let someone else do it and run away from the consequences.#GOD I LOVE HERRRRRR#thirteenth doctor

cressida's storyline was genuinely shameful tbhhh it's like they started rewriting it in the first half of the season then completely forgot about the changes they'd made to make it fit the book plot and it just ends up making everyone else look bad😐 every character in the second half got a "penelope did nothing wrong" lobotomy so we ended up with eloise completely ignoring cressida being sold off to an horrible man (when she made every effort to support her in the first half of the season) and for some reason resenting her for pretending to be lady whistledown? Then they somehow frame her ignoring colin's offensively bad pleas as it being her turning away from redemption when all she's trying to do is escape being trapped in the country with her likely abusive aunt... and it ends with her meeting her horrible fate and it still being framed as tragic only to immediately juxtapose it with the bridgerton family winning the idgaf war while gleefully seeing off francesca and her future dead husband. The bridgertons were the villains of the season frfr
#bridgerton#almost as bad as marina's plot in season one. every horrible decision in this show revolves around penelope meeting no consequences ever#this is not an anti post or anything idc about the fandom ill forget about this show tomorrow but i need to get this off my chest#they had to give penelope a fairy tale ending WHICH IS FINE but they somehow did it by surgically removing everyone's personality#INCLUDING HERS#benedict's bi storyline was bad also im sorry. paul literally has like 4 lines of dialogue and he was really cool#i love tilley but she should have been cut😭 if they wanted to establish he was bi (given we know theyre not genderbending sophie)#they should have made the whole subplot about him being attracted to a man instead of a 5 minute footnote in the last episode#i liked francesca and her husband whose name idr but it felt like they were framing it as him not being her 'great love'#considering what happens to him i fjnd it childish and meanspirited soul mates aren't real and he deserves a lttl respect considering.. lmao#what else. the dialogues were horrible. especially the ones between penelope and colin in the second part im sorry#they need to fire the make up and hair department. every reference to queen charlotte felt like a wahh pls watch my show ad#i miss anthony they should change the books to make him the villain of every season bb please come back to ruin your sibilings relationships#portia and philippa were peak as always. violet deserves her own season. we need to put eloise out of her misery pls leave her in scotland#rant overrr#publishing it on my sideblog actually i feel like im gonna lose followers just for having watched this show lmaoo

I can't get over people going on about Solas' redemption ending as though it's the best outcome, like... he only agrees to "atone" because he's LOST. If he had won that fight, he would have gone ahead with exactly what he wanted. At no point has he ever considered what he could actually do to help all the people he's wronged, he just wants to fix his own mistake (the Veil).
And to say that his is the best redemption in Dragon Age? When Blackwall is right there? Blackwall gets less content and has a much better redemption arc than Solas could ever dream of. Blackwall makes the decision himself to accept the consequences of what he did, even if those consequences mean death, and he's angry with an Inquisitor who takes those consequences from him. But if he is allowed to live? He then spends the rest of his life making up for his actions. Solas doesn't even consider other options until Rook's holding a dagger to his throat.
#solas critical#why are we giving this man so much credit for just giving up when he's lost and saying he'll atone#who would believe him anyway#he's literally just lied to rook's face four times in a row#what has he ever actually tried to do to help the people he's wronged#nothing#he wants to bring the veil down because “it would be better”#when it actually would kill everyone (but it's fine because they aren't people to him)#but that isn't helpful#that isn't righting the wrongs he's committed to the titans and to the dwarves etc#it's just fixing his mistake#he doesn't care about the wrongs he's committed but just the mistakes he's made#if he cared about what he'd done he would be trying to fix it#and tearing down the Veil wouldn't be the way to do that#the only thing tearing down the Veil actually fixes? The unintended consequences of his actions#Doesn't matter that it's been thousands of years and tearing down the Veil now isn't helping anyone but him#he's a spirit of pride#his regrets? decisions he made where he didn't foresee the consequence of his actions#not the consequences themselves#because lets not pretend he cares about what he did to the dwarves#(also don't get me started on what they did to morrigan in DAV purely for solas' storyline)#(i will never get over how much they destroyed her for the sake of a man's unearned redemption)
