Since my last post abt Moonshadow genetics did well, I decided to try to figure out eye genetics 😬👍
Research Results:
From what I have gathered, it is probable that Moonshadow elves have three main phenotypes for iris melanin, which happen to be the primary colors of Blue, Red, and Yellow.
If we hypothesize that the sister dominant phenotype combinations (blue+red and red+yellow) result in true incomplete dominance (the colors blend together completely), then that would explain where the eye colors of purple and orange come from (brown as well, since brown is just a dark shade of orange).
Since Lain’s eyes are orange, he has a Red phenotype, and paired with Tiadrin’s Blue phenotype would create purple!
Since we have yet to see a Moonshadow elf with fully green eyes, it is reasonable to infer that although all the phenotypes show incomplete dominance with their nearest neighbor, the yellow phenotype is simply too weak to fully mix with blue, which would result in a blue eye color that leans towards green, but doesn’t cross the threshold to be considered fully green (e.x. Runaan with turquoise eyes, and Lunjanne with teal eyes)
Conclusion: It works???????
(@cartoonish-character since they’re the one that made me start thinking abt this)

Thinking about how I would write an adult Scooby-Doo series, because I think it can be done.
The first thing I’d do is make the characters actually be adults. Still young, but adults, in the mid to late 20s range. Mystery Inc. is a private detective type business that they run together. In this universe, the supernatural/ghosts/etc are real, but not necessarily common, so when they take on a case, the culprit might be a person disguised as a monster, or it might actually be a real ghost. The stakes can be higher; sometimes a bad guy is legitimately trying to kill them. Sometimes the mystery they’re trying to solve is a murder. Sometimes they actually get hurt on their cases.
Fred: the core of Fred’s character should be that he’s incredibly kind. Like, give a stranger the shirt off his back kind. The “Fred can’t talk to potential clients because he might take a case for free and we need to eat” kind. He’s an honest and good person and sometimes gets himself into trouble because he assumes other people are too. While he’s not very good at reading people or noticing ulterior motives, he’s brilliant when it comes to mechanical or engineering type stuff, so he’s the one who keeps the mystery machine running, builds their gadgets, and of course, designs the traps.
Daphne: she comes from old money, and her parents absolutely despise her life choices, to the point where they haven’t officially disowned her, but they have basically cut her off, so she doesn’t actually have access to any family money. Growing up wealthy has granted her a variety of skills, including speaking multiple languages, horseback riding, and fencing. She’s very into fashion and jewelry (even if she can’t afford it anymore) and has extensive knowledge of both that can occasionally provide a vital clue in a case. And even though her parents have cut her off, Daphne still has a wide network of contacts she can ask for favors sometimes, because she’s personable, and people tend to like her. Daphne is also very emotionally intelligent, and is usually the one who can spot when someone is lying to them.
Side note - I ship Fred and Daphne, so I think I would start them off as an established couple for this universe. Dating, engaged, married, I don’t care. They are stupidly in love, ride or die for each other. There’s no will they, won’t they, no worries about cheating. They are in a healthy, happy, loving relationship, and no one (not even Daphne’s disapproving parents) are going to mess that up for them.
Velma: she is the forensics nerd who sometimes gets super excited about the wrong thing at the wrong time (”He was mummified in seconds? That’s so cool!” “Velma! His wife is standing right there!” “Oh. Sorry.”). She’s not purposely insensitive, she just gets laser focused on her work and forgets to filter herself sometimes. She’s also the one who can get so fixated on solving whatever mystery they’re working on, she’s willing to bend or maybe break laws. Is breaking and entering really so bad? Not if it gets them answers.
Shaggy: he is still the comic relief, but he’s the comic relief by being the only person in the group that actually has common sense. He manages the business’s finances, he’s the only one who knows how to cook, and the others tease him for being a coward sometimes, but Shaggy maintains that if a ghost with an axe is coming for you, running is the only sensible option. He should also have a range of random knowledge that sounds useless, but sometimes saves the day (ex ventriloquism, origami, the history of spoons, etc).
Scooby: as this is a universe where supernatural creatures exist, Scooby is an ancient eldritch type being that took a shine to Shaggy when he was a kid, and took the form of a talking dog to befriend and hang out with him. Aside from the talking dog bit and not aging, he never uses his powers in a way that anyone notices. The audience is not told upfront that Scooby is an ancient eldritch being; it should slowly be hinted at throughout the series so the audience put it together, but the characters never realize it. Scooby genuinely considers Shaggy to be his best friend, and cares about the rest of the gang too.

me: I'm not a bat
Mr pages: (stuffing novels under its robe): I must abscond
#I have a lot of other bits I've collected but don't want to overwhelm the tag#I really would suggest motr and to play it as like. I like it for giving us a day to day slightly more grounded neath life#I think fallen london is a great setting well conveyed in total but motr is way more fleshed out in a “you're just a guy” way#I also really like the character writing. The gameplay to solve the mysteries is quite obtuse in total but I used a hint guide so it was#I knew what to do bc I would NOT have succeeded otherwise. But experiencing it was still fun#I'm quite torn on how good an intro it is for FL. I think that depends on your genre of choice but as a world introduction...#Idk!! In theory it's probably good. But I'd need to hear from people who went through it as their first to say. It touches on a bit of it a#Mask of the rose spoilers#Fallen london#for virginia and milton teaming up to bully you + mr pages ridiuclous comedy of a life it's worth it to me

I'm sorry I just
historians: this colony disappeared! they carved a word in a post that was both a name of a local indigenous group and a nearby place, but no definitive sign of them was found. 15 years later, this guy who was known for making shit up and being an asshole said that he'd heard about a place nearby with a bunch of English people doing English things, but he couldn't go investigate. then 100 years later, another guy said that some local indigenous people had gray eyes and claimed some European ancestry, with no further information about specifics. anyway now there's absolutely no archaeological or genetic evidence to substantiate any particular theory about what happened here, even though many historians do believe it credible that at least some of them may have assimilated with local Native groups
randos online: THE ONLY REASON ANYONE WOULD THINK THIS WAS A MYSTERY IS DISCOMFORT WITH INTERRACIAL RELATIONSHIPS, CLEARLY
#history#colonial history#roanoke colony#we did it guys! we solved the Roanoke mystery!#and all it required was taking John “Broski” Smith at face value and completely ignoring the need for evidence to prove a conclusion!

This AV Club comment is making me so desperate to write a romcom, you have no idea.
#adventures in writing#the trouble is that the idea begins and ends with 'romcom!'#the same way my desire to write mysteries would be 'they solve a mystery!' and i'd have no idea what the mystery was#there's this idea that keeps niggling me#from back when i was just braindumping potential elements i might want to make use of in an inklings story#and looking back at it later the list elements of 'arranged marriage' and 'rom com' stuck out#as well as a world that involves politics and mermaids#and my brain keeps trying to tell me this is a viable idea while providing zero plot or characters#see the thing about rom coms is that they require detailed characters who need their own arcs#the thing i'm bad at!#so it's hard to fulfill this writing craving because all my brainstorming instincts to start with the plot work against me here

"You never told me where you got it - where you got all my favourite dresses." Rhys arched a dark brow. "You never figured it out?" I shook my head. For a moment, he said nothing, his head dipping to study the dress. "My mother made them." (...) I gazed a reverant hand down my sleeve. "I- I had no idea." His eyes were star bright. "Long ago when I was still a boy, she made them - all your gowns. A trousseau for my future bride." His throat bobbed. "Every piece... Every piece I have ever given you to wear, she made them. For you"
Sometimes you just read something and can't help but think about the implications.
"aww how sweet his mom made all her favourite gowns how wholesome" nonono EVERY. PIECE. Ma'am please he's still a baby boy you're making a lot of assumptions about his future preferences.

idk someone about bones or whatever
#should've just yoinked someone else's design and reference them#i feel like im drawing bloodhound/velahound/octane/omen/kayo/shaxx/kaiser all at the same time#i basically just look at a body part and see what my brain has for it and slap it on#probably the worst you can go for character design#doesn't have a lot of bones because i can't come up with any original design and i don't wanna actually search for any reference for ideas#oh well. i literally came up with this only when i need to draw his lineart for yesterday's comic so not exactly surprising#i love capes and mysterious hooded pure black shadowed head so not even gonna design a helmet for him#also solves the bone plug issue because for the love of void i can't even understand half of what ordan is saying#that's the consequence of giving all your skill points on mathy stuff and none on literature#i mean i guess the bone plugs are somewhere at or above the neck??? so it's gonna be covered up anyways#im probably gonna go for roughly this design for ordan karris for now#i feel like i shouldn't even let him talk because any dialogues i come up with ruins his image#but idk. how many cool and stern characters' image have i ruined up until this point? yeah definitely not the first time#warframe#warframe ordan karris#my art

#my art#scooby doo#scooby doo fanart#fred jones#shaggy rogers#If you recognize their outfit inspo NO YOU DONT#Picked my colours weird this time but I NEEDED to draw Fred it was a need I fear#If drawing Shaggy and Scooby's comically large sandwiches was a crime then I'd be behind bars they're just very fun to think about#I like to think they're waiting for the girls so they can go solve some fun summer mysteries together#Sick and twisted that they all only ever have one default outfit per incarnation cause I think they should get to dress up more often#but I also wouldn't wish too much stress on the poor animators so I suppose fanart will have to do for now#I have a sketch for a proper summer illustration somewhere too maybe I'll finish that soon it depends

i was just thinking how interesting the word oboe is because usually when we take a word from french we preserve the spelling to some extent, and oboe looks nothing like hautbois. so i looked up the etymology and apparently we got it through italian??? mystery solved i guess but that is such an interesting pathway for us to get a french word!
#also seems like an interesting way for italian to spell something but what i know about italian could fit on the head of a pin#and it was in the 18th century so who knows how they were spelling things back then or what dialect we're talking about#and apparently we already *had* the word hautboy in english?? so why did we also need oboe?#so one mystery solved and several more unlocked#etymology#english#french#italian#my posts

Till's piece from the event is a very honest depiction, but I want to examine it in more detail since it looks so interesting.
For one, I find the headpiece confusing, I was hesitant on this point in the last post I made covering this I assumed the headpiece Till is wearing (separate from the headphones) was this device.
There isn't even a name for that device, but it's been theorized that it serves a similar function have the collars pet humans have, but affects the pet humans in some way.
I believe it's a behavioral management device since there is an emphasis on the brain when it's shown. And just based on the design itself. I think the purpose of it is similar to a shock collar.
Till in this environment looks familiar, he has that focused expression that he always has when he's writing music, like he's in a daze. Since this is a practice in a controlled environment I think he might actually be handling an instrument this time around (hence the headphones). Till has a natural passion for music, the environment of Anakt Garden also appears more calm than what he goes through with Urak so he looks very much in his element.
But despite how calm, and focused he looks outwardly, his collar shows orange.
Till is giving with his expressions even around the aliens, so if he was feeling bad (I would suspect as much seeing the fresh experiment patches..) I believe it would look more obvious, but the difference threw me off a bit. I could be reaching (definitely) But given how unruly his behavior can be, and how much effort the aliens are putting into finding ways to subdue him I think they used that device to mellow him out so that they could properly monitor him.
The collar being orange gives me the impression that he's not as calm as he looks but the headpiece is keeping him in a 'sedated' state(?)
Red - Condition in the negatives, energy depleted, feeling bad. overall horrible state.
Orange, yellow - to a lesser extent, more like if you're feeling skittish, nervous, (think of this mode as feeling under the weather)
Green - Good, calm, happy, normal and a healthy mode.
(Translation by kh47uo on Twitter)
This behavior could also show desensitization, as he had likely been conditioned to not be phased nor show weakness in front of the aliens even if he feels bad, a way of tolerating. But this is just me trying to make sense of whatever that head gear was... he could've also been sedated beforehand (banging my head against the concrete)
Also interesting to me that we weren't shown Till doing other things, like dancing, or singing. I think it's a testament to Anakt's (And Urak's) priorities as they have Till build on his music skills, his strongest skill. It's probably because that's all he has to offer is his music (His grades in every other subject are a mess.). So building that to its greatest potential before anything is important. But it's a reminder of the situation, he's not so intense about his craft because of his inclination to it. He doesn't make music simply because he likes it, he does it because it's what he has to do to survive. Despite doing what he is naturally driven to do, he looks like he has had his life drained out of him.
Urak (the bastard) knows that for sure. Appearances, and 'decent' skills can get you far but overwhelming passion and skill can put you farther above all the rest, it's exactly why Luka is the best in his league, and why Urak pushes Till to his limits to surpass that even with such destructive means.
#overanalyzing this under a microscope for science#yes this is a smelly brainvomit i really just want to yap because i love this piece#probably one of my favorites#im gonna kill urak im gonna kill urak im gonna kill#explodes#i think i went a little off track here but i found a lot to say about this piece#this whole event looked like what the aliens find flaws in their pet humans/ need to perfect#like Ivan. above all things he needed to get his appearance corrected for the stage#things like that#it's probably very mundane to the aliens#to me it looks like medieval torture#average day of kindergarten in alien stage:#im getting tears on my keyboard#alien stage#alnst#alien stage till#alnst till#i think they probably zooted him out like usual if the head piece is there for nothing in specific#i know its something to do with experiments though the wires are tell tale#whyre the aliens taking so much fucking blood#ill become a doctor to solve this mystery#something something heperu and urak are going to drive their pets ballistic the more they treat them like soldiers that can take anything#in the name of 'improvement' more like 'win my silly ego game my little barbie doll'#THEY WERE ALL JUST KIDS DAMN#FUCK#slams my head on the pavement agai

As many comparisons as there are between TK and Buck or Carlos and Eddie especially regarding general appearance and outward behavior when you focus on their deeper personalities Buck and Carlos have a lot in common and so do Eddie and TK.
Carlos and Buck are generally more free with their emotions, often considered soft by others. There is no one that will fight hard for their loved ones than them. Both have felt ignored and rejected by their parents resulting in bad decisions. The only time we see them close to violent is when they are in moments of emotional turmoil unlike any they had experienced before.
TK and Eddie are more emotionally guarded. It takes them both a long time to open up to people, especially about their pasts. Both have been afraid to be open to new relationships due to past heartache. They have a history of running towards danger rather than face difficulties in their personal lives, one towards drugs, the other to war. They also both put themselves in violent situations rather than dealing with emotional trauma.
#buck loves to solve mysteries#just like “not detective” reyes#eddie is a medic aka tk's calling#i need the four of them together#buck and eddie please go back to texas#911 rewatch#911 abc#911 lone star#911 crossover#evan buckley#eddie diaz#tk strand#carlos reyes#buddie#tarlos
