COPYYYYYYY COPYYYYYYYYYYYYYY you are amazing indulging me in my nonsense. For anyone reading, a lot of this is rooted in cosmogeny lore, so spoilers for anyone reading or who wants to read.

CONTEXT

Part of Mathi lore is that she is a former fashion school drop out who was actually going to go into menswear but I was horrible at sewing and French. I like fashion as part of storytelling; when I dress myself I try to be purposeful as possible and choose pieces that convey something either for me or observers, so that's kind of the mindset I go for when I'm trying to choose clothing.

Contrary to what the drawings show, I actually prefer simpler choices in clothing or I don't headcanon them wearing clothes at all (like for Tamlin a lot of the time). Also, a lot of these designs are pulled from existing designs and put onto the characters I feel are most suited, edited for what works except for Tamlin which was full #yolo.

AMARANTHA

Starting off with your fav... the queen who should have been, mhm mhm

The thought process behind Amarantha is rooted in her desire to be Queen, but crossed with the raw, feral nature of how much of a predator she is. She has aspirations of Greatness and I don't remember if she officially crowned herself Queen when she ruled UtM, but she sure as hell dresses like it. I see Amarantha who wears clothes that emphasize her feminine shape, but not restrictive and very flowy. The complexity of the pleats despite the overall gown looking simple reflects Amarantha's duality. You think she wants something as simple as power, but she wants it in a specific way and she has plans.

She is purposefully kept barefoot, wanting to feel the power beneath her feet in this land (of Prythian). She definitely revels in the messy, bloody and muddy parts of her life and I think that should be seen in the clothing too with the darker parts of the fabric at the bottom parts of her skirt.

Oh, and I feel like the red is self-explanatory!! Inspirations are from many haute couture brands!

FEYRE ARCHERON

FREEEEEEE ME FROM SKIMPY CLOTHING AS EMPOWERMENT. There has to be some kind of in-between. I also just don't think that it suits Feyre to be dressed in nothing or in dresses. She always read to me as tomboyish, but alternatively, was forced to settle in whatever hand-me-down style her sisters had for her. I think throughout the story she didn't have time to explore, and tbh... I think she's still finding herself.

In cosmogeny, I had Koschei and Rhysand work together to make her wardrobe. Rhysand wanted to keep the canon wardrobe, but Koschei is more... attentive, and thus was born the sheer-meets-business-luxury. It's not very fairy-like, but I headcanon that Koschei pulls from different times as well and Feyre's style deserves to be grounded in humanity.

I actually searched up different designers and it turns out that Chanel happened to have collection that's exactly what I had in mind for High Lady Feyre who had matured throughout the story of cosmogeny to become a strong woman who relies on others to do what they do well, but is still working to find her own vision and footing in this new world.

NESTA ARCHERON

Back when I was in school, I was big into military fashion because I like the sharp silhouettes and the structure of the outfits really intrigue me. I feel like it's such a good mash of clean-cut lines, simplicity with so much room for detail.

For Nesta, especially General Nesta, I wanted to bring in strength with femininity and comfort. SURE, YES, THOSE BOOTS LOOK LIKE THEY'D TAKE FOREVER, but Nesta has a death god at her feet willing to lace them up every day for her, so it works.

TAMLIN

Of all the outfits, Tamlin is the only one I didn't use references for! This outfit specifically happens after Tamlin accepts Nyx's godly powers and now, he represents both Spring Court and his ties to the Night Court's heir. Green and Gold are Tamlin's colours in my mind, so I had to tie those in. I normally headcanon Tamlin as minimalist or nudist (more convienient when you're shapeshifting out of your clothes), but since he was thrust into the position of God-King with several Courts looking to him for direction, he needed to look the part. Help, I want to write a fic about this too -- the glow up!

The fur is a nod to an earlier outfit that Nyx Joahnnes wore, it was a fur coat gifted by the Winter Court to him. The blacks are obviously classic Night Court colours. Also, by @trash-shrike's request, I left Tamlin wearing sheer pants! Sun's out, ass out.

Also, I'm a big believer in men wearing thigh highs, THANKS!!!
