The fact is, had the League and especially the LOV trio started trauma dumping on each other, by the war arc they would have been undefeatable.
And now that we are at the finishing line of the story, it's starting to stand out as a fairly odd fact that they hadn't. The culmination of all three's stories was the part about unblocking their tragic backstories, and the heroes being the ones to hear those backstories first is kind of. Weird? You could argue that Shigaraki, Dabi and Toga weren't particularly inclined to open up about their past, but wasn't the entire point of LOV being a place where all the members felt accepted, when their previous environments never allowed them to feel this way?
The story takes so much time to explain this fact in great detail but then becomes short-sighted when it comes to LOV's actual relationships with each other and always jumps to the 'they are villains' point. Sure, they are, but they are also human individuals, who have spent around a year being extremely close in conditions that naturally encourage bonding. They didn't commit crime 24/7 and it's not like they stood around AFK the rest of the time when they weren't actively breaking law lol. All of them save for Shigaraki could have left at any moment, but they didn't, even when they became homeless and had to go on the run, even when Shigaraki's life became a non-stop battle with Gigantomachia, no one exhibited any desire to leave the League despite the fact Shigaraki had never forced anyone to stay. They were loyal to him, and to each other. The friendship was there. The trust. They even had time at their disposal.
So why is it the ones who get to hear their stories and sympathize for the first time are the hero kids, literally minutes before their deaths?

brennan will really be like "is anyone gonna write six of the most tragic and fucked up teenagers in the whole world and their narrative foils having violent murderous beef with each other in a devastatingly teenage way and then tell their story through a series of unreliable narrators or" and then not wait for an answer.

CRAZY THINGS ARE HAPPENING https://www.tumblr.com/kwisatzworld/767503662882914304/sete-came-to-the-vr46-garage-what-year-even-is-it
(photo of sete in the vr46 garage) been thinkinggggg about this.... I'm actually quite ambivalent on the topic of like. sete + valentino reconciliation because I'm also a big believer in some wounds remaining open, like I actually think there's something cute and fun and compelling about valentino being So Fucking Weird about sete and doing his weird erasing him from the narrative gig... and I've been a very sete-sympathetic mood recently where he's really been triggering my sports underdog-love brain and what valentino did to him was SO MEAN and SO FUCKED UP - low key kinda the worst he's done to any rival lbr!! - and obviously valentino will NEVER apologise for that... so a part of me kinda wants sete to pull himself together and be a bit more bitter in his own right y'know. but I suppose the bit of sete that folds is kind of key characterisation too... idk. it's also not going to prompt anyone to take his career + rivalry with valentino more seriously because valentino's already basically done the damage there. and if you're going to be such a cunt you might as well go all the way, like if valentino were any less evil about it I would find the whole thing considerably harder to stomach. as a sports fan my heart is very much attuned to sete's plight!! sete, don't talk to him. don't go to his bloody ranch
anyway that's the normative analysis about what I'd LIKE to happen. as for the positive analysis... weird weird vibes. I recently remembered some uccio/vale/sete lore that didn't make it to the toxic yuri post and it does kinda make me very. curious. about what that three-way dynamic looks like, if you will. real likelihood that sete is the valentino rival who uccio had by far the most of an actual... direct rapport with... like it's not unreasonable to suggest them and valentino hung out socially on several occasions... they also knew each other when valentino went all *gestures* y'know. on sete. idk where I'm going with this!! I just think it's interesting... I don't really feel like this is a photo I could imagine happening with any of valentino's other rivals, which does Tell You Something idk. curious if this all leads somewhere or if uccio went back home to valentino to call sete a bitch

i was digging through old blogs and then flashbacked that ironic aspect of the fandom when the show was still airing, and tbh it was interesting how people who were biased against juan defended neil jordan from those who rightfully criticized him for disingenuously nerfing his character in his final ep by throwing juan's development (returning from spain as a shaped up and secure of his bastardy especially after becoming a father) completely out the window just to make him sabotage his relationships with his mother and sister beyond hope. he was suddenly portrayed in the worst light possible just to ensure that cesare's actions would appear somehow justified to the audience when he kills him. yet after the s4 script dropped the same people who had defended neil jordan at the time crashed out and became his most obnoxious haters for some of his writing choices for cesare and lucrezia's relationship (such as nerfing the incest and having cesare betray lucrezia which leads her to attempt to kill him). like they clearly selectively accepted questionable writing when it benefited the narrative they wanted to push then objected when similar writing choices affected the narratives they favored. meanwhile i was an unbiased fan who loved cesare and lucrezia's incestuous relationship as well as juan's character, and i didn't like how neil jordan diminished either of them. you just had to be there etc.
#well fuck i didn't mean for this to be lengthy but yeah fascinating stuff all around#like neil is great and writes the best dialogue but he sucks at certain aspects and but still he doesn’t deserve any hate#like it was about time they understood that neil jordan heavily depended on fan opinion by halfway through s2#nj chose the incest route for fanservice (i was the target audience) but then he decided to turn around and cater to those who hated incest#catering to vocal fans who hated incest is crazy work and it also parallels his catering to vocal juan haters#and francois slammed the incest haters with “hey this is not a documentary !!” “is incest worse than murder?”#also see how micheletto was beyond woobified while juan was unjustly vilified? twt/livejournal fans preferred his brotp with cesare more !!#the other irony is that ces is such a fascinating char in his own right that he didn’t need juan to be diminished for his story to work#when a character is too protected by the narrative it can make them feel less authentic + more like a product of the writer's manipulation#and juan being flattened made ces killing him easier + an inevitable decision. a foregone conclusion the show needed us to accept#like the fratricide could've been far more tragic and emotionally complex and haunting (it's still haunting to an extent re: juan's speech)#but the writing choices suggest that neil didn't trust the audience to stay on cesare's side unless juan was turned into a caricature#tbh it's a shame because cesare could've been even more compelling if the show had trusted the audience to handle an evil character#instead of spoon-feeding them a clear “villain” vs. “hero” setup every damn time (bold ass emphasizes villain and hero here btw)#alright that's enough bitterness for today dhdhsjf#the borgias#neil jordan#juan borgia#tb text post

POV: You’re sad and wanting comfort but the character you’d usually find comfort in was deemed unlikabled and totally undeserving of love by the narrative. So instead of feeling comfort thinking of that character now you just feel even worse. Because every time you try to immerse yourself back into the story they came from you have to constantly be reminded by it that they never got to receive any sort of affection and the story wanted the audience to know the reason was because it never felt they deserved any. Even when intentionally making them sympathetic at moments, at the end it’s clear that they were always planning on kicking the dog with them.
#the dragon prince#tdp#viren#lord viren#tdp viren#viren tdp#tdp critical#every single time I rewatch the scene with viren dying I just feel sick#like not sad or angry just sick#it just feels incredibly off to me like it’s not how it’s supposed to go#like it’s just wrong#and I feel even crazier interacting in the fandom space cuz it feels like everyone feels completely differently then me about him#I get that he was an abusive parent and I don’t think there’s anything fundamentally wrong with disliking him#but oh my gosh where did all this he’s a narcissist and the lesson of his story is karma’s a bitch talk come from?#like the latter is literally the opposite lesson a series like tdp should teach#I get not liking a character but outright mischaractizing them as a result and using your dislike to justify the handling of them#by the narrative is a whole other thing#but I get the fandom’s perspective when the writers have handled his character in such a way that would make him so disliked#what I genuinely don’t get however is why the show seems to hate his character so much#there is evident moments 2 seasons worth even of the show setting him up to be someone that’s not so disliked#and then turning around and saying actually that set up was all a farce he doesn’t deserve any sense of forgiveness or the right to atone#yk how we were exploring how there’s always a choice and you have the freedom to change at any given moment with this character?#yeah well apparently we’re going to show that’s not actually the case by having him going crazy locked up in a jail cell#and showing him yelling at the walls about how he’s free with the symbolism of a spider eating a fly caught in a web to prove that he’s not#and we’ll even drop some hints that he was being manipulated and controlled till the end by a bigger antagonist#(regardless of whether or not the theory is true there are hints everywhere)#like why#just why#I feel like I’m not allowed to like him anymore cuz the show doesn’t want me to lol cuz they’ve decided he’s a bad person to the bone#and nothing could have ever had changed that

i forgot how weird people get sometimes when you add minnie to clemvi situations :/
#she is NOT a threat to their relationship. she is barely a blip on the radar#shes literally just here to cause problems#vi makes it ABUNDANTLY CLEAR that clem is her top priority she is so disgustingly painfully in love with clem its embarrassing#like girl i never doubted you for a second dw 😭#but its like people want to see vi hate minnie.. like they cant grasp that shes moved on without her saying she hates her or smth#all the conflicting feelings are just so narratively juicy :) some people cant appreciate this it seems#and then theyll use it as an excuse to say clemvi sucks like okay everybody pack it up#people projecting their insecurities perhaps? (i know the answer)#and like even a captured vi who was manipulated into trusting minnie ends up getting her eyes burned out for it#like they both went down there but only vi got hurt?? and separated from minnie? hm interesting#clem fighting her own trauma of trusting the wrong people with vi continuously reassuring her nothings changed she loves her#clem would appreciate that. i definitely think shes fighting jealously demons but is just good at pretending she doesnt care#she makes too many Faces about it for me to think shes casual about the whole thing#but i think after their conversation in the dorms in ep3 clem isnt worried anymore. and vi proves she can trust her again and again#THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH theyre disgusting its disgusting :)#minnie isnt a threat to their relationship shes just a threat to their lives :)#twdg#it speaks

I seee tysm for explaining, you and sum. I'm surprised protege au wasn't end game because I saw often saw that take lmao and with the extent of exile I thought that was the plan, and vague phrasing of "help with dreams goals" I've seen someone mention before that c!dream had empathy for him during the playing around with tridents, and seemed taken a back by c!tommys suicide arc. And I'm still lost as to who had the discs around exile arc, just c!tubbo right? how would c!tommy give the discs to c!dream if he didn't have them I can't remember the lore lol
well, they were still tommy's discs, so c!Dream wasn't entirely unreasonable in assuming that c!Tommy could get the disc from Tubbo if need be and then give it to whoever it's not like c!Tubbo was holding the thing hostage. Either way, keeping c!Clingy away from each other was c!Dream's best shot, as seen through how he finally manages to get the disc by pressuring c!Tubbo which only worked because of the conflict that existed between c!Clingy largely from c!Dream forcing them apart and then playing both sides to make the other half seem unreliable and untrustworthy. The disc that c!Tubbo had was Mellohi, and the other one was with Skeppy and was Cat--we never get an explicit explanation for how c!Dream manages to obtain it iirc.
it's important to remember that as far as c!discduo goes, they did have a preexisting relationship--c!Dream and c!Tommy weren't born enemies from the start (tm). a degree of friendliness and trust lingers long into exile both because of cc bleedover (cause like, frankly, half of exile is just dicking around bc neither cc was that interested in an hour of whump roleplay a day 😭) and because these characters are far from strangers from each other. even considering the overt manipulation involved in exile, including c!dream's poor attempts at trying to seem friendly, i don't think it's strictly incorrect to say that 1) c!dream had some level of empathy towards c!tommy and 2) c!dream was caught off guard by how deeply affected c!tommy ended up being bc of exile, including his suicide attempt. obviously that doesn't absolve him for ... any of it lmfao but c!dream is a character with a canonically skewed as shit perception of pain and abuse and how it affects people--when this stuff applies to himself, it's hardly a stretch to consider that the same fallacies apply to others.

I have not posted any of my analysis to reddit yet and I think I might just post it and ghost it. I've already spent too much time looking at other people's threads on there to feel any way good about interacting with folks.
I already went in an added the "I know you're going to bring this up let me save you the time" section which is exclusively touching on the frequent topics of:
"well what about the fingerprint nostrum and finger mimics? He is clearly just a crackpot"
And
"it's definitely some weird elaborate sacrifice to Metyr thing"
#if he's drinking hallucinogenic tea in his free time genuinely good for him. whatever man. i just do not think either of those items are-#at all relevant to the quest especially the nostrum because it is a placebo medicine and aint nothing fake about this shit#also i think theres a distinction between becoming fingers vs wanting to replace metyr? idk like as ive said i think he thinks he's-#better than the fingerweavers and rightfully so#like please come to a new conclusion other than “man this guy is on drugs”#also girl... metyr doesnt need sacrifices. like? where is that textually or in set design? metyr wants us to leave her the fuck alone#she's minding her own business EVERY TIME WE SPAWN INTO HER ZONE#like why are people so desperate for everything to have a dark undercurrent? not everything has to be some dark disney ass shit#“actually finding nemo is a hallucination & Marlin is insane & nemo is dead that movie is actually super fucked up & dory is a grim reaper”#like im sorry but this is how this extra shit all feels to me#like it is already fucked up and miserable?#is he 100% a good person? like thats genuinely person to person. theres personal gain from the quest#and hes definitely very good at getting what he wants#manipulate manifest mother#tail fingers on the vision board#devon yaps#and yap I did#like I don't want to be a bitch because yeah we should genuinely celebrate other peoples theories and hcs in these games#but i dont think “lol this guy is just on drugs” is one of those things#because i like spooky theories if theyre backed up.#but to say “its this weirdly horrible thing and youre all wrong” especially in his context is not great to me#Sorry. like may my own arrogance strike me down like the scholar i think i am 😤 farewell#because again its coming down to meeting this narrative without preconceived bias and most of the reddit stuff feels like-#“he is fucked up. won't say why. but i bet you know why i actually think this 🤫🤫🤫” like just you cant wrap your brain around guy mom#i do really want to reiterate this is about reddit shit. like i am so into people who love his character but interpret him more sinister💕😚#truly eating that shit up

Spoilers for Alan Wake/Control games and DLCs: one of the things I really like in Alan Wake 2 is the confirmation that, no, Alan can’t create something out of nothing. There were implications in-story that supported that, but it was good to have that be a big part in the sequel. The AWE control dlc easily made it seem like Alan himself had a role in the events of the game and the formation of the FBC, and, personally, seeing it through that lens cheapened a lot of the game and Jesse’s story. Instead, having his writing influence the Hiss and try to manipulate (even out of desperation) Jesse/the FBC to end Hartman and get help, fit right into plot and conflicts of Alan Wake 2, with Alan being sympathetic, but also an asshole for trying to change and control people’s lives in his writing.
#since the awe dlc dropped I was slightly worried that it was going the meta route of Alan writing everything in control#but since Alan wake 2 I’ve been. thank god that wasn’t the case 😭#this way makes everything more complicated and mysterious. which I appreciate. makes everything creepier#will say. it’s still wild how much Alan can influence the narrative.#light spoilers for the final draft but—> makes me think of the writers room video where he doesn’t know what he’ll be at the spirals end#like I don’t think he’ll be Evil or anything. but it’s unnerving#might delete#Alan Wake 2 my beloved#so many times in that game it could’ve gone a direction that would’ve lessened or soured the story but somehow it didn’t lmao#more game spoilers but for ex: Alice coming back at the end instead of leaving it with her demise in the documentary#when I first saw that it was devastating. but also wasn’t sure what to feel if that’s how she’s gone from the story#having her actually manipulate her photos. become art to make Alan think she died. go to the dark place and help him and saga#that last video left me Speechless it was so good.#esp after how much I disliked Control (spoilers here) for quickly ending with Dylan in a coma and not much else.#could not be happier with how the AW2 ending played out and the clear love for all its characters#REALLY hope that Control 2 ends in a good or interesting place. give dylan some focus!#not tagging this bc I’m just yelling my thoughts. but knowing tumblr it will somehow be seen on every tag 😵‍💫

Ep 4 :)
#I LIKE Dostoyevsky. I like how mysterious and unreadable he is. What is his goal!!!! Why does he do what he does!!!!!!! He's very cool#I think knowing his ability now REALLY adds to his character. Him being so smart so manipulative so disruptive in the way he–#seemingly kills people on touch! Only added to this impression of him being “demon” and “inhuman”#But now that we know his ability you realize... That's all his doing; no ability.#His ability in a way does help humanize him by reaffirming that except for the moment he dies– he's got no superpower at all!!!#It's just him.#And yet at the same time also solves the exact opposite role of dehumanizing him because if it's not his ability that makes him like *that*#then he's even different than other ability users!!! Then‚ if not an ability user‚ if not a non ability user: what is //he//?#It's all SO compelling!!! Also makes for an extremely insightful narrative parallel with Dazai#Not an ability user not a non ability user. Not good not evil. (I feel like Dostoyevsky does exceed the definitions of good and evil as–#much as Dazai does. If he causes evil‚ yet does so with the intention of bringing salvation to humans– is he really *simply* evil?)#Both have these borderline superpowers that make them extraordinary beings (we can call it super intelligence‚ but it goes from controlling#their own heartbit to everything else) but are unrelated to their respective abilities! Once again making them neither this or that#I find Karma's words at the end to be extremely insightful.“Ace was evil for sure‚ but this man isn't even evil.#He's a being from the beyond. A being that exceeds human limits.” Like!!! That's all that there is to it!!!!!!#Back to this chapter / episode. There's some themes / worldvies once again I don't agree with but narrative wise I think it's extraordinary#I feel like after the Guild arc the writing really matured a lot and this is a kind of preview of what the doa arc is going to be like#(aka very very well written especially if compared to the previous arcs)#The plot twists of this episode are all so unpredictable and exciting!!! I think it's remarkably witty how it takes advantages of previous–#clichés - villains always revealing details about their own ability in a way that is quite baffling - to actually surprise the audience.#It's so effective. How skillfully unpredictable Dostoyevsky is to the point you can never guess what he will do next!!!#Him killing Karma is... Idk so so soooooooo interesting. I could talk about this forever but I'm being very dispersive in the rable and–#running out of tags. The whole episode you're sorta rooting for Dostoyevsky. He's very cool and comes out charming in the way he keeps–#surprising the audience. He looks bothered by Ace's disregard of other people's lives and that makes him sympathetic too.#But then he kills Karma out of nowhere and it's an “Ah! You fell for his lies too– remember he's nothing but evil. He cares just as little#about life as Ace does”. And then??? Karma in his last words is himself so generous in his words to Dostoyevsky. It's baffling.#And it almost feels like thenarrative is once again turning around and telling you you should root for Dostoyevsky.#It's endlessly fascinating.#I have more to say about the worldviews I don't share and the art style Dostoyevsky was portrayed with this episode (love it!!)#But alas ran out of tags

watching this show in the way i am (with my friend who has an encyclopedic knowledge of it but REFUSES to give me spoilers) is soooooooo fun bc the way i’m assessing what might happen going forward is so funny… like. did he successfully kill himself? probably. will he be brought back in some other form AGAIN? maybe. could his bitch ass actor cope with not being as involved? probably not. <— reassess point “will he be brought back in some other form AGAIN?” to likely. is my friend blatantly lying to me by saying that he’s permanently dead? very possibly.
#he *IS* The Narrative’s Special Boy and that’s why it’s killing him over and over and over again#but at the SAME time… i don’t know if it would actually LET him die…#to be fair there’s like three character deaths up in the air at this point#and if the other two aren’t dead - i feel like there is added potential for shit to get fucked#and i’m just not gonna fucking know until we pick up next season#i actually DESPERATELY want this other character to be alive too#he’s sooooooo evil but he’s soooooooo much fun and he’s a crazy talented manipulator which is my favorite#idk… if they went in a completely different direction again then FINE#but i don’t WANT them to#there’s sooooo much fertile ground still to be covered within what they’ve already introduced#just put them in another fucking situation - PLEASE#truly it has never been harder not to look up spoilers#my friend is lying to me with my consent btw#i can ask whatever clarifying questions i want but he’s allowed to just straight up lie if the real answer would be a spoiler#and he’ll also give his reactions based on how he was feeling at the time each episode was released#so the fact that he’s like ‘this character permanently dying fucked me up’ does NOT mean they are permanently dead#it just means that was the impression he was under at the time#and look. i may be straddling the denial and bargaining stages right now#but it’s POSSIBLE is all i’m saying#AND there would actually be a precedent to fucking all of this if he came back again#but anyway anyway…#WE SHALL SEE…#suicide mention //#just to be safe!#[REDacted]

I’m the anon from the post before and I understand what you mean! I guess I just took differently when I watched the show. I don’t think Charlie or Nick was upset about Ben being closeted I think they (especially Charlie) we’re just upset how Ben treated Charlie the entire. Also I’m not saying this to be rude or start anything this is just how I saw it:) I think Charlie was angry (as he should) about how Ben treated him through out the relationship they had and not about him being closeted. Because I do believe if Ben just communicated better and treated him better and didn’t treat Charlie the way he did it could’ve worked out. I’m just saying that I didn’t see them bashing Ben for being closeted only bashing him for treating Charlie the way he did without acknowledging how it felt for him.
Yeah I don't think Charlie or Nick is mad about Ben being closeted but weirdly I think the narrative is and that's what irks me. All his issues and bad behaviors are because he's closeted (you said yourself that it's because he's closeted that he treats Charlie the way he does) but the story doesn't seem interested in exploring that so much as punishing him for it by having both Imogen and Charlie yell at him and then throwing him out of the series before he can improve at all.
And when this show is so renowned for it's love and celebration of queer experiences and identity it will always feel out of place that Ben was left out in the dust seemingly because he and his experiences were too complex.
