I feel like "Zionism" is to leftists like "pronoun" is to the right. The immediate reaction of anger. The complete ignorance to the actual meaning of the word thinking it's a synonym for a much more specific thing they deem evil.
Pronouns are not about norm breaking gender identity. Zionism isn't about support of the Israeli government. But who's gonna care? The moment you say these words, people stop listening and hear only whatever affirms their beliefs. There's probably no point in making this post besides venting because nearly everyone's already blacked out and decided that I said something they disagree with about what I'm specifically saying these words don't mean.

I'm having trouble taking all those posts that act like they're bringing some desperately needed nuance to the table by going like "friendly reminder that life is not a TV show with black and white morality, just because a goverment are the villains doesn't mean anyone who opposes them are the good guys, just because the goverment of Israel is doing bad things doesn't mean it's okay to support and celebrate Hamas" in good faith because like. Everywhere you look, the amount of people handwringing about how everyone is allegedly supporting and celebrating Hamas outnumber the amount of people voicing actual support for Hamas by an order of magnitude.
Like of course, it's true that Hamas is an explicitly antisemitic and genocidal far-right religious fundamentalist group that shouldn't be celebrated but like. Is this wave of uncritical support and celebration for Hamas among people without the ability to comprehend that two things can be bad at the same time something that's actually happening? Or are ppl just interpreting any opinion other that points out how this attack is not as uniquely cruel and barbaric (in the context of the other side's violence) as it's being made out to be, or expresses opposition to sensationalist misinformation such as the unfounded mass rape and baby decapitation reports, as "supporting Hamas"?

It’s late at night and I’m kinda tired but this has been the topic of stress for a while now and I feel like I should get it off my chest.
I’ve seen people saying that Jeremy Shada is a zionist because he liked and reposted an Insta story expressing grief over the Israeli lives lost in the October 2023 attacks. Since then, he’s removed the like and repost. Whether he did it because he found out about the genocide or if he did it to save his own skin is up for debate. Due to how busy the man is, it’s unlikely we’ll get an answer any time soon.
But also I feel like expressing condolences for potentially lost Israeli lives (though I’m still unsure of the validity of the attacks in Israel) is wholly different than lobbying for the destruction and death of everyone in Palestine. Then again, I don’t know the man’s thought process, and I think doing what he did was a really bad move on his part, but unless it’s revealed that he’s putting money into the IDF or something it doesn’t feel right to immediately assume malice. Plus, some people just don’t know about this kind of stuff most of the time. Hell, if I never came to Tumblr, I probably would’ve never seen the true extent of this genocide. Not everyone will be in the loop, and they will make mistakes, but that doesn’t make them a horrible person. It’s what they do after being informed that matters. At least to me.
Also I’ve seen some people call for a boycott of Devsisters for this and I get being upset but like…what?? I feel like there are better things to boycott them over tbh. Plus It’s been proven that a bunch of the game’s voice-actors support Palestine, and even their own community manager??? I think there’s only like 2 VAs to be really sus of, that being Jeremy Shada and Keith Silverstein (Millennial Tree Cookie’s ENG VA).
Keith himself is Jewish however so I don’t know if I can say anything on that matter.
You’re free to discuss this, just please for the love of god be civil about it. Correct me if I’m wrong about anything, because lord knows I don’t know everything. Replies may be few and far between as I’m considering taking a break from this site.
Free Palestine.

I am a little freaked out because I just KNOW there are SO many middle of the road people who would rather vote for Trump than a brown woman (or throw their vote away on a third party, which is the same thing). I'm far from Biden's greatest fan but he was SAFE. he was PALATABLE. and THIS year of all years I was happy for THAT. Is there a bright side to this situation somewhere?
I talked a bit about this in the replies on the post. Basically, I'm deliberately choosing to be optimistic about it and to hit the pavement for voting as hard as I fucking can.
For what it's worth, there are also of reasons to believe (and this definitely top of the list now) that Biden's decline is worse than we've generally seen. Biden's safe-ness has been feeling increasingly precarious for a couple of months now, and I know I've been getting pretty worried about it.
Also for what it's worth, I firmly believe that if we win, it will be because abortion rights are on the ticket. That's something that Biden hasn't campaigned on very hard, and also arguably a more powerful issue to campaign on, with a woman at the top of the ticket.
The biggest reason I'm hopeful, though, and the main reason I posted it, is that Kamala Harris winning is quite possibly the best chance we have of the Palestinian genocide ending soon.

#would like to add they walked back the claim about the beheaded babies
#meanwhile the very real premature palestinian babies that were in al shifa hospital have all died
israel posted a video of them giving water bottles to palestinians on a beach, then destroyed their luggage and shot at them after they stopped recording.
israel posted a photo of one of their soldiers "assisting" with an elderly man, then they shot him twice in the back and killed him.
in 2015, the idf posted pr photos of an israeli soldier giving water to an elderly palestinian woman, only for them to execute her after the photo was taken.
in 2005, an idf soldier emptied his rifle into a 13-year-old palestinian schoolgirl. he said he would have done the same thing if she was 3-years-old. he was acquitted of all charged.
israel claimed that hamas beheaded 40 israeli babies and then a month later cut off power to a palestinian hospital where premature babies were on incubators.
israel bombed a group of children collecting rainwater.
israel shot and killed two palestinian children playing with their scooter.
israel shot a hard of hearing girl in the face with a stun grenade and broke her jaw.
israel is using bombs with blades that are designed to cause maximum damage to the person in range.
israel forced medical workers at al-Nasr medical center to leave babies in incubators in order to evacuate the hospital they were bombing.
israel turned off power to hospitals in palestine, forcing nurses and doctors to use their phone flashlights when treating patients.
israel raised their flag over Al Shifa hospital.
israel has blown up the chambers of the palestinian legislative council.
israel targeted a "suspicious vehicle containing several terrorists”, meanwhile the only people in the car were three girls, ages 10, 12, and 14, their grandmother, and their mother. the only survivor was the three girls' mother.
israel planted a copy of mein kampf in a children's bedroom in a gazan house they claim hamas was hiding in.
israel poured fake blood onto the floor of an israeli child's bedroom and claimed hamas killed them.
israel posted a video showing a calendar in a palestinian children's hospital was a hamas guard list because it was written in arabic.
israel was using white phosphorus on hospitals.
israel bombed a refugee camp.
israel has burned olive trees in palestine.
israel has put cement into the water supply of palestine.
israel claimed that they found tunnels under Al Shifa hospital, only for it to be exposed that those tunnels are actually in sweden.
israel built a bunker and command room under Al Shifa hospital in 1983, only for them to now say that they are hamas tunnels.
israeli police arrested an israeli high school teacher, who posted on facebook expressing sympathy with palestinian civilians who have been killed.
we are witnessing a genocide in real time framed under the guise of stopping hamas. israel has been terrorizing palestine for as long as israel has existed, but their access to technology and social media has made it much easier to fool people into supporting them.
meanwhile, noah schnapp is posting that zionism is sexy and celebrities are standing with israel. just absolutely twisted shit.

By the way, even if you fully plan to vote for Biden in November (because Trump would be worse and has declared that if elected he would ban Palestinians from entering the US x, x, x, x)...
You can and I would argue should call or email Biden or whatever other Democrats represent you and just straight up lie about it. Tell them "I'm a constituent, and I've voted for you in x number of elections, and thanks to your support for the genocide of the Palestinian people, I will never, ever vote for you again."
Politicians, Democrats, and especially Biden need a fire lit under their asses, because the vast majority of them clearly aren't going to do shit without one. Or, worse, be like Biden and actively be the reason that Israel can continue its genocide on a political, monetary, and military level.
Tell Biden and other politicians that you will never vote for them again. It doesn't matter if it's true. It will help pressure US politicians to stop this genocide, and therefore it's the right thing to do.
Obviously this also applies to other countries where politicians are supporting Israel's genocide, especially countries that have cut funding to UNRWA (list here).

No, this is not footage from Gaza or Lebanon; it's Iranian missiles hitting "Israeli" soil.
– From @/War Monitor on Twitter. The same footage if also being shown on Al Jazeera and other mainstream news outlets right now (1st of October 2024).

I'm sure you disagree with me a lot more than afloweroutofstone. I suspect that you only haven't blocked me because I mark out the rightward edge of adjacency tumblr that you're willing to tolerate, and to the degree that you do interact at all (which is very little), that provides you with information about what the rest of the right-wingers are up to. (I'd bet $1 that you already blocked samueldays, for instance.)
But.
I believe that you and I are both the kind of person that would read about a country getting 50% of its water from desalination, realize this is a challenging technical feat, conclude that the country must have a lot of talented personnel in this industry in order to carry it out, that the country's political system and institutions must be in decent shape in order for it not to get shut down by red tape or corruption, and that its economy must be fairly productive in order to afford that much desalination.
From this you would conclude that it likely has the talent, institutions, and resources to run a domestic arms industry. It might not, but if it has rivals on its immediate borders then it probably would. If you actually cared (there are a lot of wars or potential wars between a lot of countries), you would run a quick check on the desalination to rule out edge cases (e.g. whole thing is foreign industry fueled by oil money), and then run a quick comparison of US aid to total GDP (in Israel's case, $3.8b for 2023, vs ~$488b GDP in 2021, with another $14b potentially on the way).
Now obviously, we would expect the low range to be bad with intuitive handling of quantities.
But it's surprising that Brett apparently thinks of Israel as teetering on the brink without US aid. Maybe he's thinking that if they can get a termination of aid, they can push through to sanctions?
There's a weird unfortunate effect on Tumblr (it exists everywhere, but it's particularly visible here because of the mechanics of likes vs. reblogs), where if you agree with someone 95% of the time but disagree 5%, that remaining 5% is much more visible and so you seem a lot more hostile to them than you really are.
Brett floweroutofstone is great and I agree with him 95% of the time, including on I/P, but that US/Israel post is just completely factually wrong right from the first paragraph. No sentence in that first paragraph is correct, but I don't really feel like reblogging him and making myself out to be an Israel hawk to his followers in the inevitable re-reblog, which really is not my position at all.
But the tl;dr is that, contra Brett's post, one of the most galling things about US aid to Israel is how pointless and unnecessary it is. Israel has a very mature and self-sufficient defense industry: if the US cut defense aid to 0 tomorrow, Israel would certainly complain, but they'd shrug it off and keep doing exactly what they're doing now. They take America's money because, hey, free shit, why not, but they certainly do not need it. The idea that Israel is a weak and fragile state being propped up by American aid, and it would collapse or even become more pliant to international pressure re: Palestine, in the absence of that aid, is pure cope (and example number billion of leftists assuming that America is the only country in the world with agency and so can make any outcome it wants come to pass by wishing hard enough).

broken but not destroyed
WHAT A DISAPPOINTING AND HEARTBREAKING FINALE? To have the man who was abused, mutilated, and disabled for protecting the crew, to have a suicide attempt survivor who crawled on the ground, to have someone who battled depression and alcoholism, to cement his role as the 'Ship's Unicorn" (the figurehead that protected the crew) only to reduce him as someone who "had to die" because he had no more narrative feeling, what a slap to the face. DJenkins said he didn't want to fall back into old tropes and burying your gays, but there's an elder disabled queer man you just buried for what, to absolve Ed of his abuse? Izzy died thinking he DESERVED the torture done upon him. What a disgrace. Izzy fans rallied and kickstarted a S3 renewal Campaign. And many of us are heartbroken and grieving for a show who promised kindness but only justified the abuse we've gotten the past months? We stayed and hoped better because of kindness and belonging. "This show is kind" has never rang more hollow. I'll still love and create art for him, but I don't think I can trust any other queer show again. I thought this would be different. Do you want a queer show full of kindness and found family, for all queers, the disabled and survivors and the rough around the edges ones? It's not Our Flag Means Death.

tw: child death
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The body of a six-year-old Palestinian girl, missing for 12 days after an Israeli tank targeted their family car in Gaza, has been found along with the bodies of two medics dispatched to look for them.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and the family of the girl, Hind Rajab, confirmed on Saturday that all seven people inside the car were killed, with the Palestinian relief organisation saying it lost crew members Yusuf Zeino and Ahmed al-Madhoun in the Israeli attack on civilians in Gaza City.
Family members found Hind’s body along with those of her uncle and aunt and their three children near a roundabout in the city’s Tal al-Hawa suburb, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.
Another of Hind’s uncles, Sameeh Hamadeh, said the car was peppered with bullet holes.
“The occupation deliberately targeted the ambulance upon its arrival at the scene, where it was found just metres away from the vehicle containing the trapped child Hind,” said the PRCS statement.
“Despite prior coordination to allow the ambulance to reach the location to rescue the child, Hind, the occupation deliberately targeted the Palestine Red Crescent ambulance crew.”

https://pchrgaza.org/en/scourge-of-torture-under-detention/
At around 15:30 on Wednesday, 15 November 2023, the Israeli soldiers raided the villa amid shooting and I saw laser lights, so I shouted at them to stop and help me in Hebrew.  The soldiers stopped shooting and one of them ordered me to take off my clothes, except for my boxer, and sit with his head down on knees. I was then handcuffed behind my bank and blindfolded, and they then walked me out to another house.  They removed the blindfold and I saw 20 soldiers in green uniforms bearing the American flag.  Suddenly, they started punching me and continued for a long time, fracturing some of my breastbones.  They then set me to a polygraph asking me why I was here and I answered them in details.  They then asked me if I did any phone calls and I said yes but the polygraph made a sound.  Suddenly, I was beaten and electrically shocked, so I changed my answer to no I just sent 2 text messages to my wife and my boss.  However, they kept beating me and showed me pictures of a tunnel accusing me of coming out of it, kidnapping Israelis and Americans, and being a from the Hamas elite forces spying on the Israeli soldiers and existing in a combat zone.  I denied all of that, but they electrically shocked me 5 times and severely beat me all over my body, causing unbearable pains due to breaking my ribs and injuring my head.  After not being able to bear the pain anymore, I admitted to all the accusations and they took me handcuffed behind my back, blindfolded and wearing only my underwear in a troop carrier, where there was a soldier speaking Arabic fluently and treated me well.  He offered me water and biscuits and loosen the blindfold and the plastic ties. The carrier travelled for some time and then stopped to throw me on the ground.  The soldiers again beat me while I was on the ground, spit on me and peed as well.  They then brought me back to the carrier, which kept going and then stopped again to deploy the Israeli soldiers in other places.  All the way I was subjected to the same abuses.  I was then taken to a destroyed house, where I stayed all night and was forced by the soldiers to sleep on the floor that was covered with broken glass and scattered rubble; during which, the soldiers were stepping on me causing bruises all over my body.
