20 Questions for Writers
OKAY so Tumblr decided to start blasting Line of Duty posts onto my dash again and I saw @ac12bookworminthetardis do this tag (I have no idea how long ago, apologies if I'm tagging you over something ancient) and wanted to give it a go ^__^
I know we don't know each other, apologies if me tagging you like this is weird !!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 11 public, two hidden (awaiting rewrites to make public again)
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 24,985, as of this post
3. What fandoms do you write for? Mostly Fargo! In fact, almost exclusively Fargo these days. I haven't written for another fandom in years. I've considered returning to writing Doctor Who fic, though. Maybe LoD if I end up hyperfixating again.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Dazed & Confused (96 | Doctor Who) When The Clock Struck Thirteen (23 | Doctor Who) One Hour Ahead of the Possee (9 | Fargo) Dead Boys (6 | Fargo) A Promise Made In Blood (6 | Fargo)
5. Do you respond to comments? Always! They always make my day, and I try my best to respond to them with as much insight as possible ^__^
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? It's not complete yet, but Drop It, Doe Eyes is definitely going to have the saddest ending. Sorry JethRye enjoyers. It's rough.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Dazed & Confused, I suppose, though it was only a oneshot drabble from back in the day. As for my current WIPs, I think One Hour Ahead of the Possee will be the happiest. I've kind of accepted that it's a fix-it fic at this point LOLLLL
8. Do you get hate on fics? Nope! And I thankfully never have.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yepppp I sure do. I haven't published any of it (yet) but it will definitely be included in my JethRye fic, and probably a fair few future oneshots. Though most of the smut I've written as of late has been for my OC stories rather than fics.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Yes! @pastelspindash and I are slowly working through a Fargo x Sonic crossover AU which we are taking WAY too seriously lmao.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not yet, but I will with the FargoxSonic crossover.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship? ALL TIME FAVOURITE??? I couldn't choose one. Genuinely. Here are some of my favourites though! Lester Nygaard/Lorne Malvo (Fargo) Peggy Blumquist/Constance Heck (Fargo) Steve Arnott/Dot Cottan (Line of Duty) The Doctor/Jack Harkness (Doctor Who) Cal Lightman/Gillian Foster (Lie to Me)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Ughhh my Xenoblade Chronicles AU, Lone Homs. It's been hidden for a while now because I changed a lot about my OC after writing the first few chapters, and then never ended up rewriting it. I haven't cared about Xenoblade in years now so I doubt I'll get around to it :/
16. What are your writing strengths? I think probably dialogue, especially capturing characters' voices. I've had people tell me a few times that I'm quite good at it -- especially in Fargo fics ^__^
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Well first of all I NEVER WRITE ANYTHINGGGG I'm so slow! Writing is so hard!!!! And second of all I'm not great at descriptions unless I really put my soul into it. I'm a screenwriter first and foremost, so prose is hard for me.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I'm not proficient enough in a language right now to be able to do that T__T
19. First fandom you wrote for? I don't have it in me to admit that!!! It was back in 2016 and I'm taking it to the grave. You can try to guess if you want.
Let's just pretend my first fic was when I started writing Doctor Who fic back in 2019.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Hmmmm. Either One Hour Ahead of the Possee, or Dead Boys. The first has just been super fun to write and I'm proud of the prose. The second I'm SUPER proud of how I juggled so many characters in one scene ^__^

on reflection, I think the reason why the Line of Duty finale fell a bit flat was because the emotional resolution felt underdeveloped
mostly this was because pretty much the main relationship of the season, Kate and Jo, wasn't addressed at all. Jo went into witness protection, great, but she never got to talk to Kate about their relationship or find out whether Kate had been pretending (which we all agree she wasn't), or even just say goodbye, so their chemistry and both of their stories felt unresolved. It wouldn't have taken much, just one or two scenes, or even a few LINES. Best case scenario they confess their love, kiss, and go off into the sunset, but the bare minimum was some kind of meaningful interaction between them beyond procedure. Given everything they've been through this series, they deserved more than they got. All the little moments between them ended up amounting to nothing, and as viewers we were left feeling hollow.
and as for Steve, his storyline felt rushed in the last episode. He sought help for his addiction, which was good, but it was presented as a quick fix, and the big meaningful speech came from the counsellor, who was such a minor character he wasn't even named. And then Steve's second storyline this series, with Steph, was all but glossed over. She didn't appear in this episode, only in a voicemail, so there was no closure there either.
tbh I'm not too bothered about *SPOILERS* Buckells being H, because there wasn't really another way they could have made it more dramatic while still keeping it realistic. And it WAS realistic - people do bad things for the most mundane of reasons - he wasn't born into a life of crime or blackmailed like Jo, he just wanted the money, lifestyle and power. I think the whole point was that it didn't feel conclusive or satisfying, because the corruption Buckells represents isn't gone - it's institutional and endemic, and no matter what AC-12 do, they will never uncover it all.
I don't think it was was an objectively bad episode, even though it certainly didn't meet the standards of the rest of this season. But for this episode to feel satisfying, especially as a finale, it needed more emotional weight, and that was what was lacking.

Maybe it’s just me (age, cynicism), but given the whole series (S1-6) of “Line of Duty”, I felt there was an unrealistic expectation in fandom for a ‘happy-ever-after’ for Jo Davidson & Kate Fleming. In a time where #buryyourgays is still a big thing, I actually felt that Jo being lesbian here actually was the one saving grace to her survival by the end of the series. Many of the officers investigated by AC-12 over the past six years did not survive their interactions with the OCG. Prison or death (or both), dismemberment was usually the case. The fact that Jo survived, got her witness protection, a dog, and potentially a girlfriend is a flipping godsend. Jo survived her family connections to the OCG and pressure/manipulation from higher ups and made it out, alive but not unscathed. She’s going to need serious therapy; hopefully it’s something that can be arranged by Witness Protection, so that any therapist is alerted to that particular situation. Yes, I’d have liked Kate to let Jo know she wasn’t pretending, but to be fair I wasn’t expecting it to happen. Also, not likely that Kate would have given up her life with the potential of never seeing her son again just to be with Jo (or Kate’s ex, Mark, willingly giving up custody, even with her out of the police and in WP). In the grand scheme of things that is Line of Duty (all six series), I didn’t see that happening in canon. Yes, I love seeing the artwork and the fanfic for Jo & Kate.
I’m glad that Terry Boyle made it out okay, too. I’m also okay with Buckles being the minor H after Tommy Hunter’s death. He’s a perfect example of mediocre incompetent white man failing upwards. He’s inept politically and in policing, but greedy enough to have got where he is with his OCG contacts, and enough self-interest to maintain his own status quo by feeding the OCG information and willing to sacrifice other offers for his own gain. The upper echelons of the police senior service (PCC Osbourne, ACC Wise, even DSU Carmichael, etc.) are more interested in playing politics and maintaining their power / positions than investigating potential corruption up the chain of command. They’re content to reap the benefits of their middle management officers involvement with organised crime as long as things don’t get up-ended. AC-12 was disbanded because they continued to investigate higher up corruption, which threatened the power of the senior police service. The powers of anti-corruption units keep getting dwindled/defunded/disbanded. Greed and power and the influence of OCGs will continue as long as people don’t stand up to corruption, even standing up to more senior officers, both in fiction and reality. Osbourne, Wise and Sindwhani kept pressuring Hastings to play the political game of senior policing especially S5 & 6 even though Hastings had no intention of doing so, so they pushed him out with a forced retirement.
Finally both Arnott and Fleming are doing some therapy with the Occupational Health Medical Officer. Both need it. Big time. I’m curious to find out if Kate takes up the mantle of DI or promotion to DCI with AC-3 (under Carmichael?) or she takes up as a DCI in charge of The Hill, now that Davidson is in Witness Protection and Buckells is in prison. Or perhaps in fanon maybe Kate takes a position as a DCI wherever Jo ended up to make sure to keep an eye on her.

Hellsing is my favourite fandom (next to Peter Pan). It is a really old anime/manga but I love it!
I have a whole blog on this fandom aka @hellsing-manga-and-more
Keep reading if you want facts on Hellsing.

There is a slight problem with there being several versions of it.
With Hellsing: Impure Souls - https://hellsing.fandom.com/wiki/Hellsing:_Impure_Souls - being the older of the two.
And Hellsing: Ultimate -
https://hellsing.fandom.com/wiki/Hellsing:_Ultimate
- is the new version of the two.
