“With the blood of a scoundrel and a princess in his veins, his defiance will shake the stars.”
“You may try, but you cannot deny the truth that is your family.”
“The mighty Kylo Ren. When I found you, I saw what all masters live to see: Raw, untamed power… and beyond that, something truly special. The potential of your bloodline.”
“He is a son of Alderaan. His mother is Leia Organa.” […] “I knew his grandfather. And his mother. She was an incredible woman. Is he… is he like her?” “He is. He’d deny it. But he’s very much like her.”
“We’ve passed on all we know. A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your fight. […] Confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi. Your destiny.”

Ever since those leaks about Palpatine’s ability to transfer his consciousness to another body were revealed I connected the dots. It was Palpatine’s plan all along to posses Anakin’s body, that’s why he wanted a young apprentice, a young and powerful dark side body. He only wanted to save himself through a new host body. A younger one. Why?
“Sidious’ strength in the dark side of the Force caused each body to degenerate at an accelerated rate, forcing him to take new bodies periodically.”
After Dooku’s death he said:
“Soon, I will have a new apprentice; one far younger and more powerful.”
He wanted Anakin.
But then this happened:
and Anakin was no longer a suitable host.
So Palpatine wanted to possess Luke:
Luke rejects his offer.
Palpatine is thrown down the shaft.
But he is far from dead.
Dark Empire comics talk about how Palpatine survived by saving his consciousness. He now transfers his consciousness to another body.
“Essence transfer is the secret of eternal life. The physical body will always weaken and fail, yet it is nothing but a shell or vessel. When it is time, it is possible to transfer your consciousness—your spirit—into a new vessel or in some cases an inanimate object.”
The schematic representation of the transfer essence:
“Ancient Sith Lords and other powerful darksiders used this technique to cheat death again and again, haunting catacombs and their tombs and possessing those who stumbled across their sarcophagi in order to continue their reign of terror.”
How does Snoke fit into this?
Well let’s see who Snoke was.
“Snoke was a humanoid alien who was a master of the dark side of the Force. At some unspecified point in his life, Snoke acquired a black obsidian stone from the catacombs and mines beneath the castle of the Sith Lord Darth Vader on the planet Mustafar. He affixed the stone to a golden ring he wore, which was engraved with glyphs used by the Four Sages of Dwartii, controversial figures of philosophy from the early days of the Galactic Republic that were represented with bronzium statues in the office of Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine.”
So maybe Palpatine’s spirit was haunting the tomb, or a death star wreckage Snoke was in and possesed him. Or possesed the stone from which Snoke made his ring.
That would explain Snoke’s sudden involvement in the rise of the First Order. Snoke was just a seeker of arcane and ancient lore. So why all of a sudden such an interest in rulling the galaxy?
“In a matter of time, Snoke unexpectedly became the Supreme Leader of the First Order. The last of the Imperial leadership, including Grand Admiral Rae Sloane, the political lunatic Ormes Apolin, and even General Brendol Hux did not expect Snoke’s rise to power and were surprised when it occurred. General Armitage Hux, Brendol’s son, was spared by Snoke in order to use him as a tool in his rise to power.”
Maybe it was Palpatine all along preying on young Ben of the Skywalker bloodline. It would complete this trilogy and tie all three trilogies together. Palpatine as the main villain. Palpatine against the Skywalker family. Now he wants to possess Ben’s body. He doesn’t want Rey to overthrow Ben (like he wanted Anakin to overthrow Dooku or Luke to overthrow Vader). No, he wants Ben. Because Ben is not old. He is young and strong and extremely powerful in the force. He was in his head ever since Ben was a baby. Preparing him to be his new host one day.
He’s not worried about Ben’s health here. 👇
He wants to make sure that what happened to Vader’s body won’t happen again with Ben.
He needs Ben to be totally consumed by dark side. That’s why he keeps calling him out on his weaknesses.
People have been saying that after Snoke’s death Palpatine’s spirit went back to where it was prior to Snoke. Maybe back on Mustafar under Vader’s castle or the Death star II wreckage. Or maybe back in the black stone on Snoke’s ring. For some time epIX working title was Black Diamond.
Killing of Snoke and the lack of info about Snoke’s backstory is not bad writing (as many people claim), it was intentional. Because it is a part of a bigger story that will be revealed in IX.

"I think Kylo's overall character graph is interesting because it's completely opposite to what the audience sees and expects from a character on the Dark Side. It really opened my imagination as an actor.”
"JJ Abrams told me when I met him for the first time that I should imagine a journey of a character completely opposite to Darth Vader. I liked that idea & the character has evolved that way. [...] I really liked playing someone who starts as a child & becomes a man over the course of three movies. He becomes closer to his convictions, becomes more assured about his choices, but has metaphorically and physically killed his father to become his own person.”
