Went out in my wheelchair today to take a little walk. It was 90° but there was a nice breeze and shade. I was out for like an hour and a half without crashing which was cool, according to Google maps it was a 4 mile round trip which is kind of wild. The sidewalks sucked and I got stuck on a train track which was mildly terrifying but I got out and pushed my chair and it moved easily. I tore down a ridiculous white supremacist sticker on a traffic light pole and admired how many "free Palestine" stickers there were, also a little trans flag heart sticker. A lady asked me for $0.75 (I gave her $1 because it was the only cash I had) and she complimented my shirt and asked me if my wheelchair needs to be plugged in to charge (it does). I saw like 4 other wheelchair users, all manual chairs but still very cool. I'm aware that one of the possible side effects of gabapentin is "a false sense of well-being" but honestly I'll take it even if it's false and hurting me in the long run. It's just nice to not feel miserable and be shut in all the time.

writing advice for characters with a missing eye: dear God does losing an eyes function fuck up your neck. Ever since mine crapped out I've been slowly and unconsciously shifting towards holding my head at an angle to put the good eye closer to the center. and human necks. are not meant to accommodate that sorta thing.

I was rambling on the issue of museums and human remains and how certain populations are more likely to have their bodies put on display to be gawked at and then went "well I guess the Pompeii casts were of Europeans. there are bones in there right?" and Googled it to make sure, at which point I confirmed that yes there are bones in there, but more interestingly DNA testing revealed that a cast of an adult holding a child everyone assumed was a mother and child were, in fact, a man and a kid entirely unrelated to him. Honestly that's more moving to me. Maybe they were connected in a way other than blood, but maybe a stranger saw a child when the world was ending and thought the one thing he could do was hold them.
