Hey so, this is like, really random, but I was scrolling through screenshots in my gallery and I found these pics I took of a quiz I made a long time ago (can't even remember what it was about) which are answers to the question "what do you consider your biggest flaw". And after reading them I thought huh. Some of these fit Stan and Ford really well

Hiiii, I have a question about ur Frankenstein au (love it Btw, it’s my fav classic after Jekyll and Hyde)

I’m like binging ur art and I was just wondering; what happened to Stan for him to be reanimated by Ford? My guess was that he actually did get into a car crash, coz if Ford just shot him with the crossbow, wouldn’t all he had to do was replace the damaged organs?

Just wondering coz it’s cool af :D

Typically in Frankestan au's there are 2 options for how Stanley died: either Ford shot him with the crossbow when he came to gravity falls, or he died because of unrelated circumstances. In the case of my version of the au, I got inspired by two fics on AO3 called "Sticks and stones may break your bones but I will put you back together" and "The new invention", both of which had Stan dying via getting ambushed by gangsters who wanted to take revenge on him

I do like when ppl choose to make Ford be the one to kill Stan to add that extra angst flavor! But there's just something about Stanley dying alone while on the road, probably thinking nobody would care about his death, only for Ford to learn about it and immediately go full mad scientist trying to bring him back by any means necessary that kinda gets to me

A headcanon that I've seen a few times that I really like is that, whenever Ford starts to freak out- tense shoulders, pulling at his own hair, pacing in circles, muttering to himself- Stan will just come behind him, wrap his arms around Ford's torso and squeeze as hard as he can. The effect is immediate. Ford's tension melts away instantly and he takes a deep breath, just laying there for a bit while his brother holds him until he gets up and says "Thank you, Stanley. I feel much better now."

IN THE BOAT: Ford gaining weight because he's having consistent meals and can finally sit back and relax and Stan losing weight because he's eating healthier and is being more physically active.

So I decided to log into twitter dot com and the first thing I see is this discarded storyboard from AtotS

And like. Jesus christ am I glad they did NOT go in that direction because the actual punch already stung, but if the strength in it had hurt Stan enough to make him bleed I'd have lost it. Not to mention the amount of discourse this would cause

But like ignoring that for a second. Can you imagine meeting your long lost great uncle for the first time and the first thing he does when he comes back is punch your grunkle in the nose so hard it makes him bleed??? Ngl if I was in Dipper and Mabel's shoes I would be horrified

I think Stanley being more relatable may stem from the difference between his and Ford's trauma after they separate the first time.

Ford goes through a lot of terrifying shit because of him messing with the fae and a literal dream demon. His mind, body, soul aren't his anymore. He pushed away his best friend in favor of Bill, and both him & Fiddleford are worse off because of it. The portal incident. Being sent spiraling into the portal himself. Being an interdimensional outlaw for 30+ years, constantly in survival mode. All of this trauma that stems from supernatural origins, or straight up from him being manipulated the way he was.

Stan, on the other hand, his trauma is all stemmed from real life shit that happens all the time irl. Being homeless, surviving by any means, being kicked out for stupid reasons. Heists gone awry turned into hell to pay. Constantly changing names and skipping towns. Always on the run. Never settling down until his literal lowest point, expecting to die soon, expecting to get killed, until a postcard from his estranged brother he hasn't talked to in 10+ years asking for help. Stealing food and driving away as fast as he can. Mistakes turning into life or death situations. Chewing his way outta a fucking car trunk. Conning his way through life because he has no other choice in his situation. And then continuing to con and scam because it's all he knows. And everything I haven't mentioned because that list is a long one.

Stanley's trauma has such an impact because that shit happens, irl, to a lot of people. Being homeless, getting kicked out, turning to crime to survive on the streets. Overindulgence. Fucked up shit that I won't mention right now.

This isn't to discredit or dismiss Ford's trauma, no, that shit is horrifying.

I just wanted to write this out, especially as someone who's been in similar situations as Stan (being homeless), because I think about a lot and wondered why he was so more relatable to me than Ford is.

This may just be me, idk. Take this as you will. Jumbled thoughts and all that.
