The Jinx & Stan art (thank you for that btw) has me thinking about a full blown crossover now, in either direction. Jinx and Vi spending a summer in Gravity Falls vs what the Mystery Shack would be in Zaun.

No bc I've actually been thinking about this a lot,, I mean, it wouldn't be impossible since alternate dimensions are canon in both franchises. Ermm something something Jinx gets trapped in gravity falls bc of the rift interacting with the arcane maybe?? Then she meets the pines fam and gets along with them surprisingly well

If this took place in post canon arcane I imagine she wouldn't be in the best place mentally, so having a group of friendly people willing to help her get back to her own dimension and also take care of her would probably help a lot. Unfortunately, I don't think she'd be too keen on accepting their help, because she doesn't have a good track record in getting close with anyone without them getting hurt or dying because of her. Maybe that's even what kickstarts her bond with Stan- he asks her why she's so stubborn about accepting help from other people (something he can understand) and she tells him nothing good comes from being close to her. She talks about her family, about how she always messes everything up and how she's learned she can never be anything other than a jinx, and Stan mentally goes "oh, shit."

He doesn't offer her sympathy, or say that he's sorry for what happened. He just looks at her and says that he gets it. Not what she has gone through- God knows he can't even imagine what that is like- but how she feels about herself. I don't know if Jinx would start to become more open after this, but I think she'd find some comfort in knowing that at least someone understands what it's like to believe that everything that's ever happened to you, and anyone close to you, is your own fault- what it's like to believe you were born to be a screw up, a jinx.

My favorites from the ones I've read are "For those once held so nearly" by fex_libris and "Too late, too soon, not enough" by IncomingAlbatross, which are both on AO3. Hope you like them!

My favorite types of gf fics are the ones about the "missing scene" of Stan and Ford switching clothes in the fearamid, because there's just so many possibilities to be explored there- how did Ford react when Stan told him the plan? Was he angry, shocked, scared? Did he beg Stan not to do it? Did he reluctantly accept it because he knew it was the only way or did Stan have to convince him about it? Did they apologize to each other? Did they hug? Or did they both just glance stoically at each other, reminiscing on their regrets and leaving things unsaid, because ultimately what good would it do if Stanley was just going to forget about it anyway?

Part of me believes the reconciliation between the two of them started there, with both of them realizing how much time they had wasted because Stanley was basically about to die, and suddenly all the anger and resentment they had felt towards each other seemed so meaningless.

Something I think about so much is just how different the Stanley Pines we see in ATOTS is from the Grunkle Stan we know in the rest of the show.

Like, have you ever noticed just how much more expressive Stan is in 1983? The guy wears his heart on his sleeve so much more than he does later on. At almost every moment you can tell exactly what he's thinking and feeling just from his face, something that will become a lot rarer for him. Even setting aside the portal incident scene itself, have y'all ever watched the Dusk 2 Dawn scene and just watched Stan's face? He looks so… openly sad.

It's not just his expressions. Here's a detail that only just occurred to me: you guys ever think it's weird that Stan doesn't just try to steal the bread from Dusk 2 Dawn? Like, you'd think his stealing habit would've originated from his years on the street stealing to survive, but no— he tries to pay for the bread, and then when he doesn't have any money, he figures out how to get some. It's surprisingly honest.

And just like… I don't know, his whole vibe is so different. He's come from this life of hardship completely willing to talk things through. He's emotional, he's open, and not exactly what you'd expect to see when you imagine what a younger Grunkle Stan might have been like. In fact, his vibe is so different that, in Journal 3, Ford writes that when he first saw Stan, he assumed he was just in another alternate dimension rather than the one he came from.

Anyway, it just makes me think about the transition of how, exactly, he went from one to the other. How we go from the "stubborn, frostbitten vagabond" to the "carnival barker" he is by the show's present. I think about that in-between Stan a lot. Realizing that the hole in his heart, the one he thought was caused by his circumstance for so long, hadn't disappeared even now that he had money and a steady place to live. Growing more bitter and grumpy by the day, learning that maybe it's just better if he shuts himself off from the world so nobody has a chance to hurt him. Seeing himself aging and finding himself no closer to saving Ford. Ship of Theseus-ing himself into the carefully curated asshole that maybe even he thinks he is.

I'm ngl, I really liked how gravity falls ended, but I kinda wish Stan and Ford had made up sooner because I always wanted to see more scenes with them just bonding and being bros, doing stuff together without being at each other's throats every 5 seconds of screen time

The ending probably wouldn't carry the same emotional weight if that were to happen, so I totally understand why they didn't do that, but it still saddens me that we only get to see them getting along in the finale

Those are very good questions! As for the whole Hunter situation, I haven't really thought much about what his role would be- I still want him to have ties with Belos, but idk how that would work. Maybe he's like Gideon and he worships him in some way but then gets disillusioned? Eh, idk. And honestly I haven't really thought about Bill's origin either, just that he's actually a human in this au, so I'm putting a raincheck on that

As for what the mystery shack is called- I just thought about keeping the names the same, but now I'm thinkin' about Stanley making the owl house the Mystery Shack so he can sell human junk and Eda naming the shack The Owl House as a sort of reference to one of the legends in the forest, that would be pretty cool

Soooo I've been thinking about this roleswap au that I made and how Eda and Stan's backstories would change in accordance to their new setting, and here's what I have so far:

- Eda and Lilith's conflict stems from Lilith feeling like her accomplishments aren't recognized by her parents because they're always more worried about taking care of Eda (she's chronically ill, because in toh her curse is used as a metaphor for that so I thought it would be cool to include it here). And like Stan and Ford they never communicate about, so it ends up souring their relationship

- Their fall out happens because Eda accidentally breaks Lilith's project, and Lilith assumes she sabotaged her on purpose. Then they fight and Eda decides to leave the house to get away from her sister and also her overprotective mom

- Fast forward a few years, Lilith calls for help from Eda because she was tricked by an entity she thought was her friend (Belos). They fight, Lilith goes through the portal, Eda steals her identity and spends 30 years working to bring her back, you know the drill

- So in this au I thought about making Luz and King twins, but then I had the idea of King taking Soos's place as the adopted son figure who works in the shop since it would kinda match with their canon relationship, so instead Luz and Vee are sisters here, and Vee's adopted. Idk if they would actually be related to Eda or not, maybe her and Camila are friends and she asks Eda to let her kids spend summer with her or something

Now to Stanley:

- So like. The whole "six fingered freak" stuff kinda doesn't work anymore because this is the boiling isles and everyone's weird here. I still want Ford to have six fingers because it's an iconic part of his character, but it's just seen as a normal thing in this setting so it doesn't change anything

- Ford has an afinity for all types of magic, and he wants to join the emperor's coven so he can be allowed to study and use all of them. Stanley's also good with magic, but since he doesn't pay attention at school and doesn't care enough to learn more than he has to, he's known as the "dumber twin", even if in practicality they're on the same level

- To be honest idk how the whole curse thing would go. Maybe Ford is manipulated by Bill (who takes Belo's place in this au) to curse his own brother in exchange for joining the coven because he sees potential in him? Well in any case, Stan gets cursed and attacks Filbrick while in his owl form and that's how he gets kicked out

- Maybe Soos could be King in this au, since I don't want Stan to just be all alone and I think they'd have a cute dynamic

- Mabel and Dipper end up in the boiling isles after they ditch summer camp and end up with Stanley. Dipper doesn't like him at first, but Mabel thinks he's really cool and she wants him to teach her magic (which Stanley eventually does, begrudgingly). Dipper really likes the boiling isles and wants to learn everything he can about it, so he ends up getting into Hexside (followed by Mabel who wants to learn more about the magic system so she can become the coolest witch ever)

- By this point Ford is working with the emperor and trying to catch Stanley because he thinks he can find a cure for the curse (Bill told him so, and he'd never lie to him, right?)

I remember seeing this idea somewhere that using the memory gun on someone leaves a scar on them, so I imagined Stanley having a big one on his face from his sacrifice

Does it make sense? Probably not but idc I just think it looks cool, although it would probably make it kinda hard for Ford to look at him sometimes
