it's been nearly three months since we went through an earthquake and each night when i go to bed i still feel the bed shaking underneath and i have to stand up and stare at my lamp to see if im just imagining things. i didn't even realize that the earthquake, which lasted for a mere minute, affected me this much until this started happening. so i can't even imagine the psychological repercussions that people in Palestine now face

to wake up to the sound of bombs everyday, to know that nowhere is safe, that there is nowhere to hide, to go to sleep not knowing if you'll still be alive tmrw, to write your name on your arm so that ppl would be able to identify you. all of this will leave such horrible horrible mental scars on all Palestinians i can't imagine the fear and the dread and the anxiety they must feel rn. my heart breaks for all of them it's horrible all of this is

This is from a WIP I have been obsessing over the last couple of weeks when I should be focusing on other things. I went back and forth between which lines to pick because I have two sets I like and then decided, fuck it, rules are for squares, have both!

The Beast in the Belly of the Earth:

Fenrir leaned forward until his face was an inch away from the child’s. The boy scrunched up his nose as Fenrir’s hot breath hit him, but he did not back away. “Your daddy left you out on the street to die, boy,” Fenrir said. “And they call us monsters…”

“I’d rather eat it than raise it,” Ginger said. “I’m hungry. We’re all hungry.”

“We will find food,” Fenrir snapped. “I've not let you starve before, so I'll thank you to shut your mouth and trust me.”

“I guess we have another mouth to feed now, too,” Bea said, giving the child a light kick. “Just what we need.”

“The boy will find his own food,” Fenrir said. “Won’t you, Rosier?”

The child put his hand on his stomach, which ached with an impossible hunger. He had not missed so much as a meal before being bitten and it had been days since he had last been properly fed. Lately he thought of little else but food, how to find it, and what it would feel like to eat it.

He looked up at Fenrir and nodded.

"As you wish," Rosier said, releasing his hold on Regulus. "You're coming with me, though."

"What? I am not watching you shower, Rosier," Regulus said, rubbing his wrist where Rosier had held him.

"Watch me or don't, I don't care, but I have to watch you. Were you not listening?"

"Surely not constantly..."

"All your fancy schooling and you don't understand what 'don't let him out of your sight' means, hmm?" Rosier asked with a smug smile. "Put on a blindfold if you're so bothered, but you better be where I can see you."

Regulus tilted his chin up defiantly. "Or what?"

Rosier leaned forward slightly, a dangerous glint in his eyes. "Or I will have to come and find you, won't I, little prince? I would enjoy that quite a bit, but you…Depends how willing you are to play games with the Dark Lord's orders."

I think one big reason why we don't consider the stars as important as before (not even pop-astrology anymore cares about the stars or the sky on itself, just the signs deprived of context) is because of light pollution.

For most of human history the sky looked between 1-3, 4 at most. And then all of a sudden with electrification it was gone (I'm lucky if I get 6 in my small city). The first time I saw the Milky Way fully as a kid was a spiritual experience, I was almost scared on how BRIGHT it was, it felt like someone was looking back at me. You don't get that at all with modern light pollution.

When most people talk about stargazing nowadays they think about watching about a couple of bright dots. The stars are really, really not like that. The unpolluted night sky is a festival of fireworks. There is nothing like it.

Not socialist in a “I won’t have to work” type of way but socialist in a “I’ll still be working but I won’t be worried I won’t make the rent” type of way. In a “billions won’t be hoarded by one person” type of way. In a “janitors, fast-food workers, child care workers, preschool teachers, hotel clerks, personal care and home health aides, and grocery store cashiers, will live comfortably” type of way. As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.
