Here's Trump's next target — according to the tyrant's playbook | by Robert Reich
Trump is following Putin’s, Xi’s, and Orban’s playbook. First, take over military and intelligence operations by purging career officers and substituting ones personally loyal to you.
Next, subdue the courts by ignoring or threatening to ignore court rulings you disagree with.
Intimidate legislators by warning that if they don’t bend to your wishes, you’ll run loyalists against them. (Make sure they also worry about what your violent supporters could do to them and their families.)
Then focus on independent sources of information: the media and the universities. Sue media that publish critical stories and block their access to news conferences and interviews.
Then go after the universities.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Last week, Trump threatened in a social media post to punish any university that permits “illegal” protests. On Friday he cancelled hundreds of millions in grants and contracts with Columbia University.
This is an extension of Republican tactics before Trump’s second term. Prior to Trump appointing her ambassador to the United Nations, former Representative Elise Stefanik (Harvard class of 2006) browbeat presidents of elite universities over their responses to student protests against Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, leading to several presidents being fired.
Senator Josh Hawley (Stanford class of 2002 and Yale Law class of 2006) called the student demonstrations signs of “moral rot” at the universities.
But antisemitism was just a pretext.
JD Vance (Yale Law 2013) has termed university professors “the enemy” and suggested using Victor Orban’s method for ending “left-wing domination of universities.”
I think his way has to be the model for us: not to eliminate universities, but to give them a choice between survival or taking a much less biased approach to teaching. [The government should be] aggressively reforming institutions … in a way to where they’re much more open to conservative ideas.”
Trump is also targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion programs on university campuses.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
But of all Trump’s and Republicans’ moves against higher education, the most destructive is the cancelation of research grants and contracts. The destruction is hardly confined to Columbia and other suspected left-wing bastions.
Research universities depend on funding from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.
Trump reportedly aims to slash the budget of the National Science Foundation by up to two-thirds. And he’s instructed the National Institutes of Health to no longer honor negotiated rates for “indirect costs” on grants that it administers — money that universities use for laboratory space and research equipment.
In defiance of court orders, Trump has largely maintained a freeze on NIH funding.
As a result, many of America’s great research universities have stopped hiring and are cutting Ph.D. programs — in some cases rescinding offers to accepted students.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Trump’s moves are consistent with the tyrant’s playbook, but they’re also jeopardizing America’s national security and competitiveness.
Trump speaks of putting America First, but his attack on the nation’s great research universities is ensuring that the U.S. comes in second — to China.
Although America has long been the global leader in scientific output, China is now surging ahead. Even before Trump’s cuts in research funding, China was projected to match U.S. research spending within five years.
China has already surpassed the U.S. as the top producer of highly cited papers and international patent applications. It now awards more science and engineering Ph.D.s than the U.S.
Tyrants close universities. Fascists burn books. Trump is destroying America’s most important asset — its innovative mind.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Robert Reich is a professor of public policy at Berkeley and former secretary of labor. His writings can be found at https://robertreich.substack.com/.

Why There are No Illegal Alien Invaders in Missouri
Missouri has no illegal alien invader guest-Democrat-voters; go figure... shouldn't the other states do the same? Missouri's approach to the problem of illegal immigration appears to be more advanced, sophisticated, strict and effective than anything to date in Arizona . Does the White House appreciate what Missouri has done? So, why doesn't Missouri receive attention? Answer: There are no illegals in Missouri to demonstrate. (And the Media doesn't want to publicize that fact!)
The "Show Me" state has again shown us how it should be done. There needs to be more publicity and exposure regarding what Missouri has done. Please pass this around.
In 2007, Missouri placed on the ballot a proposed constitutional amendment designating English as the official language of Missouri In November, 2008, nearly 90% voted in favor! Thus, English became the official language for ALL governmental activity in Missouri . No individual has the right to demand government services in a language OTHER than English.
In 2008, a measure was passed that required the Missouri Highway Patrol and other law enforcement officials to verify the immigration status of any person arrested, and inform federal authorities if the person is found to be in Missouri illegally. Missouri law enforcement officers receive specific training with respect to enforcement of federal immigration laws.
In Missouri, illegal immigrants do NOT have access to taxpayer benefits such as food stamps or health care through Missouri Health NET.
In 2009, a measure was passed that ensures Missouri 's public institutions of higher education do NOT award financial aid to individuals who are illegally in the United States .
In Missouri all post-secondary institutions of higher education are required to annually certify to the Missouri Dept. of Higher Education that they have NOT knowingly awarded financial aid to students who are unlawfully present in the United States .
It is important to remember, Missouri has been far more proactive in addressing this horrific problem. Missouri has made it clear that illegal immigrants are NOT WELCOME in the state and they will NOT receive public benefits at the expense of Missouri taxpayers.
DON'T DELETE THIS, AMERICA . KEEP IT GOING UNTIL WE GET ALL 50 STATES TO COMPLY!

Ignoring MTG’s stupid ass; why in the absolute FUCK is some junkie from South Africa calling the shots??
Like the TEMERITY of someone who was here ILLEGALLY (thanks to info from his brother) lecturing people on what’s “American”. Not to mention this proves MAGA doesn’t know what communism is because Sesame Street is FAR from communist. It’s meant to be simple comfort show for children.
Not to mention; this coupled with Project 2025’s plans for education involving faith and “patriotism”, this is not only UNAMERICAN but is UNDOUBTEDLY indoctrination like they accuse the LTBTQXIA+ community of doing. This is what they do in North Korea.
This is why the world laughs at you “America First!” clowns. You’re letting a South African Ketamine Junkie derail your government and telling you how to run things? And you claim you’re “patriots”??
Disgraceful.

Slytherins boys during 4th of July with their American! Reader
Warning: of course this is modern era‼️😋
Ft. The riddles, Draco Malfoy, Blaise Zabini, Theodore Nott, Lorenzo Berkshire
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
TOM RIDDLE
Your dark aesthetic of an English boyfriend is staying his ass inside 😭 he’s not coming out!!
He DOESNT fuck with them bugs or those loud fireworks…yes he moved to America for you. As much as he loves you. Hell no.
He’s in the shared room with you as he read a book, listening to crime documentary and podcasts. Or he’s just cuddling with you.
If you ever did drag him out to pop fireworks wit you, he may or may not pop them at his brother if mattheo comes to visit.
“Y/N!! GET YOUR MAN!!” Mattheo says running from Tom who had a evil grin on his face. Chasing after Mattheo with a sparkler.
you just stood there waving your sparkler around giggling.
at least he's having fun!
MATTHEO RIDDLE
Mattheo is popping fireworks like a god damn maniac…please control him…
Literally bought an illegal firework and lit it outside…PLEASE get your unhinged man or else people are gonna call the cops on him.
STOP CAUSE HE’S DEFINITELY THE TYPE TO THROW POPPERS AT THE NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS 😭😭
A MENCE TO THE STREETS AND YOU!! YOU ARE NOT SAFE!!
Chaotic just like his damn brother with that evil ass grin. He’s literally the king of being an asshole.
But if you don’t like fireworks, don’t worry…he’s got you bbg. He’s a softie for you anyways.
He’s literally probably buying noise canceling headphones so you can relax with him.
He’s a cutie patootie under all that gremlin energy he’s got
DRACO MALFOY
This sassy ass man…this bbg dude..is probably staying his ass inside. I’m sorry, but he’s probably confused on why “American’s” celebrate such a day even if you educate him about it.
At least you grill him food and still love him.
That’s all it matters
BLAISE ZABINI
He’s already starting bullshit if you don’t like popping fireworks cause of how loud they are.
If you’re asleep, he’s literally like playing loud ass firework sounds or he is outside popping them loud ass works 😭😭
Honestly I do picture American! Reader just grilling while Blaise is getting ready to pop these babies.
But since I headcannon this Slytherin boy to be a romantic, he’s taking you to a firework show. He loves you like that.
Putting the blanket below you guys, cuddling you with that charming smile of his.
It’s just perfect!
Best 4th of July ever.
THEODORE NOTT
Get ready to wake to this man cooking at 4 am so you can eat.
He knows you love to eat you beautiful foodie, so he’s making you some food.
Watches the fireworks from inside and then goes out to pop his own
He’s a romantic as well, so he might just take you out for a firework show
He loves you like that.
And if you don’t like fireworks, don’t worry you two can just enjoy the fireworks inside
LORENZO BERKSHIRE
He’s the type of boyfriend to try and grill for you only to fail and need assistance. 😭😭
Literally though he will try again only to succeed with your help tactics and then he will be so proud!
Pops small fireworks with you. He doesn’t pop big ones as he did look into the holiday to see so much accidents with big fireworks.
“Enz, honey.. it’s okay…” you say holding up a pack of big fireworks. Lorenzo looked nervous as he took the fireworks from your hold. “Sorry love..but what if an explosion hits you?”
Please calm your man down before he packs it up makes you two just watch movies instead of popping fireworks.
End of the night and day, he loves the food a little bit.

Fantasy Guide to Education
Tumblr media
I'm always asked what sort of education different people recieve throughout different historical eras and since I'm heading back to college soon, I thought it was high time I made this guide.
Disparity
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Education is viewed as a right by many but for some and thoughout history it was a privilege. For the wealthy and those of high status, education can be easily accessed. They can afford to tailor an education to fit their needs, they can hire tutors, and they can afford tuitions to top schools. For the poor, education was a luxury. However this doesn't mean that it was available. Some communities would fund a school or send their children to a local teacher - usually they had to pay a daily fee or at least bring kindling for the heating. Many poorer children also worked so they could not attend school consistently or were pulled out very early into their education. However, some poorer students could gain access to high level education if they were extremely bright or caught the attention of a wealthy benefactor who could fund their education.
Education as a Weapon
Tumblr media
Education could also be banned for certain groups in society. It could be illegal to fund schools or host gatherings for students of a certain background, race, religion or gender. Education against the law could be punished by imprisonment, exile or execution. This is a measure usually taken by oppressive governments in order to follow a moral code or restrict the betterment of a certain group. An example would be the Irish Catholics under the Penal Laws.
On the otherhand, there is education that is influenced by the state to inject certain values, moralities and Opinions into a population. This is the intense restriction of reading material, removal of books that contest the teachings of the government or the kidnap of children from their culture, in order to forcibly educated them in alignment to their beliefs. An example would be the residental schools of North America and Canada and the AHS schools of Nazi Germany.
Content
Tumblr media
As above, content of what children learn usually falls into a certain category. This is also true for the education offered to the wealthy and the poor. The poor would be offered a basic education, learning literacy and arithmetic, usually with an expectation that the children would not go on to any jobs that needs a broader education. Any higher education would be hard to obtain because of cost and the discriminatory view of the enrollment panels. The wealthy would have access to an array of different subjects including: The arts (drawing, music, painting, poetry, dancing), sports (riding, martial skills, rowing, hunting), arithmetic, geography, languages, geography and history. While progression to higher education will still be difficult, any affluent families are legacies of prestigious colleges or can make a donation to grease a few palms. These schools would be where the wealthy make lifelong connections and get springboarded toward opportunities.
Private Tutoring
Tumblr media
Whilst some affluent, aristocratic and Royal families send their children to schools, private tutoring in the home was a popular choice. Children would be educated at home but tutors who either lived in the home or come to the house. The children would be educated alongside siblings or the children of courtiers or neighbours. Private tutoring sessions would often be the only education for upper class women recieved, taught by governesses and tutors.
Premises and Equipment
Tumblr media
As mentioned above, wealthy and aristocratic families would usually attend established schools or attend school at home. They would be provided any equipment they needed. If they attend school, they would often wear a uniform. Some schools had multiple variations of the uniform for different activities. Many of the schools attended would be boarding schools. Boarding schools offered education to those who boarded and day students, however day students were often looked down upon as lesser than.
Poorer schools would be relient on donations and fees paid by students. As mentioned above, there may be a building reserved for classes - sometimes an designated schoolhouse or a teacher's home or a public building such as a gathering house or sometimes even outside - hedge schools. Equipment would be provided by the school. Uniforms at poorer schools were not a thing but students were expected to show up neat and tidy.
Corporal Punishment
Tumblr media
Corporal punishment at schools was the go to punishment for students. Teachers had free rein to strike children for mistakes and bad behaviour. Punishments include insolation, physical stress positions such as standing on a chair all day, getting objects thrown at them, being slapped on the back of the legs with a cane, being rapped on the palms or knuckles with a crop or ruler. Students may also be humiliated by teachers through the use of dunce hats, encouraging other children to bully them or by the use of verbal abuse. Corporal punishment did extend to all classes except for royal children since that was either taken by proxy by whipping boys or left up to parents.

i've seen a lot of discussion of the issue with the book "daddy's little toy" and how the author was arrested in australia for csam. i haven't read it but it seems like a fictional romance novel based on grooming/pedophilia. from what i can tell, the romance takes place after the girl turns 18 but that the man had been interested since she was a toddler. to me, it doesn't seem like it qualifies as csam (since it's fiction) but the snippets have read def make me uncomfortable (not that that warrants being illegal or arresting someone...)
i've seen some arguments that the book goes too far and isn't pedophilia kink, and was wondering if you had resources on this kind of kink? i've done a lot of unpacking and educating over the past few years regarding kink, erotica, porn and censorship and i want to make a decision for myself, but i haven't researched pedophilia kink specifically.
since you're my most trusted sex educator on here, wanted to know if you had an opinion or had heard this story or any resources you have.
I'm gonna be super honest: this is the first I'm hearing of this book, so I really don't have much to say about it that's going to be interesting or insightful. the book also seems to have been pulled from any sellers' sites due to the legal controversy, so I can't even find a blurb to tell me much more; all I've got to go on are articles informing me that it's about a "barely legal" 18 year old and her father's friend.
not my cup of tea, if I may be honest. even if it weren't looking pretty impossible to get ahold of a copy now, I can't say this is a book that I'd have been seeking out to read for fun; an older character hooking up with someone they've known since that person was very young is a big ol' squick for me. (I mean, frankly, I can't even really handle romance novels about college undergrads, since I work with undergrads constantly in my day job and they seem So Incredibly Young to me. those are kids, they're not sexy.)
re: the author's legal trouble, I know very little about Australian law as it pertains to this. in America, sure, works of fiction don't qualify as child sexual abuse material, but I have no idea what the standards in Australia are, and since it seems the author has in fact been charged possessing, producing, and disseminating child porn I have to assume there's a difference, since there's been no mention of the police finding any actual material of real children being sexually abused in the author's possession.
I hope I've made clear on here that I'm staunchly in favor of prison abolition and against so-called carceral justice; I genuinely don't see what problems the author's arrest is meant to solve in this situation. she wrote something that I think is kind of yucky, sure, but yucky isn't a crime, or at least it shouldn't be.
I have very little to offer you in the way of information about actual child sexual abuse and grooming as a kink; understandably, I think, the spaces where that's discussed are not particularly public or open spaces, and I don't want to find them! where I'm comfortable is much more in the realm of age play and related kinks, where everything is taking place between adults who are solidly of the legal age of consent and everyone involved is well aware that they're playing a silly little game of make believe, which is, obviously, a very crucially different thing than child sexual abuse

Andrew Prokop at Vox:
Former President Donald Trump has lately been trying to distance himself from Project 2025, claiming it was cooked up by the “severe right” and that he doesn’t know anything about it. But it turns out the severe right is coming from inside the house. Kevin Roberts, the self-proclaimed “head” of Project 2025, has a book coming out in September — and the book’s foreword is written by Trump’s vice presidential candidate, J.D. Vance, who lavishly praises its ideas. “Never before has a figure with Roberts’s depth and stature within the American Right tried to articulate a genuinely new future for conservatism,” Vance writes, according to the book’s Amazon page. “We are now all realizing that it’s time to circle the wagons and load the muskets. In the fights that lay ahead, these ideas are an essential weapon.”
What ideas? Like Vance, Roberts is obsessed with the idea that the left controls major American institutions — he lists Ivy League colleges, the FBI, the New York Times, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Department of Education and even the Boy Scouts of America. The book argues that “conservatives need to burn down” these institutions if “we’re to preserve the American way of life.” (Vox has requested a copy of the book, but has not yet received one at the time of this writing.) Obviously, this poses a problem for Trump’s attempts to distance himself from the virally unpopular Project 2025 and its lengthy agenda for what he should do if he wins, which includes proposals to restrict abortion access and centralize executive power in the presidency.
And it’s one more indication that Trump’s pick of Vance might be politically problematic for him. Vance has a fascination with provocative and extreme far-right thinkers, and a history of praising their ideas. He is not a running mate tailored to win over swing voters who are concerned Trump might be too extreme — quite the opposite. The book was written and announced before Vance was chosen as Trump’s running mate. But there’s some indication that people involved had some late second thoughts about it. It was originally announced as “Dawn’s Early Light: Burning Down Washington to Save America,” with a cover image showing a match over the word “Washington.”
More recently, though, the subtitle has been changed to “Taking Back Washington to Save America,” and the match has vanished from the cover.
[...]
Vance agrees quite a bit with Project 2025’s most extreme ideas
Project 2025 contains a multitude of proposals in its 922-page plan, not all of which J.D. Vance necessarily supports. But he’s on record backing ideas similar to those put forth in two of Project 2025’s most controversial issue areas. The first is abortion. Project 2025 lays out a sweeping agenda by which the next president could use federal power to prevent abortions, including using an old law called the Comstock Act to prosecute people who mail abortion pills, and working to prevent women from abortion-banning states from traveling out of state to get abortions.
Vance is on record supporting these ideas. Last year, he signed a letter demanding that the Justice Department prosecute physicians and pharmacists “who break the Federal mail-order abortion laws.” In 2022, he said he was “sympathetic” to the idea that the federal government should stop efforts to help women traveling out of their states to get abortions. That year, he also said: “I certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally.” At other points, Vance has struck a different tone. ““We have to accept that people do not want blanket abortion bans,” he said last December. And this month he said he supported a Supreme Court decision that allowed the abortion bill mifepristone to remain available. Here, Vance is trying to align with Trump, who — fearing political blowback — argues he merely wants abortion to be a state issue, despite his long alliance with the religious right. But Vance’s record implies his true agenda might be otherwise.
The second controversial area where Vance is sympatico with Project 2025 is centralizing presidential power over the executive branch. The project lays out various proposals to rein in what conservatives view as an out-of-control “deep state” bureaucracy — mainly, by firing far more career civil servants and installing far more political appointees throughout the government. Vance, as I wrote last week, has backed a maximalist version of this agenda. In 2021, Vance said that in Trump’s second term, Trump should “fire every single midlevel bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state, replace them with our people.” The courts would try to stop this, Vance continued, and Trump should then “stand before the country like Andrew Jackson did, and say, ‘The chief justice has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it.’”
While Donald Trump is doing his darndest to supposedly run away from the highly unpopular Project 2025, his ticketmate J.D. Vance is making that proposition difficult to impossible.

Shocking disclosures regarding a data breach at the National Labor Relations Board suggest illegal conduct by DOGE members
Over the weekend, NPR published a lengthy story about a potential major data breach at the National Labor Relations Board. At first blush, the story sounds like it is in 45th place on the list of the most horrible things that Trump and DOGE have done in the first 86 days of his administration.
But you must pay attention to this story. It is a national scandal that suggests DOGE has intentionally exposed confidential US government information to foreign adversaries.
I will give a very brief summary, but urge you to read, listen to, or watch one of the sources I cite below.
In short, a whistleblower from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) claims the following:
DOGE gained access to the NLRB's most sensitive information, which included labor complaints, identity of whistleblowers, identity of private employees engaged in union organizing, and enforcement actions against private companies (like Tesla and SpaceX).
DOGE turned off log files that would record their actions.
DOGE set up a “black box” inside the NLRB network so that NLRB IT personnel could not monitor what was happening.
DOGE disabled security protections, thereby exposing the NLRB’s sensitive information to the internet.
Within 15 minutes of the firewall protections being disabled, someone using an IP address in Russia used a username and password for a DOGE team member to attempt to access the NLRB information.
NLRB IT members witnessed a massive spike in information being downloaded from the NLRB servers.
A DOGE team member set up a file that was briefly visible on a public forum; the filename suggested that it was a “backdoor” download program for an NLRB-specific database.
The NLRB IT staff asked the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) security team to help launch an investigation, but the CISA investigation was peremptorily shut down without explanation.
The employee who asked CISA to begin the investigation received a typed note on his residence door which warned the employee to drop the request for CISA assistance and included personal details about the employee known only from government files. The note also included a drone photo of the employee walking his dog on a public street.
A spokesperson for the NLRB issued a statement claiming that DOGE never visited the NLRB and did not gain access to NLRB data—a statement that seems to a blatant, easily disprovable lie.
I have not done justice to the details of the story. There are three ways you can educate yourself about this story.
First, the lengthy NPR article is here: NPR, Whistleblower details how DOGE may have taken sensitive NLRB data.
Second, the NPR report has a seven-minute audio summary embedded in the article. It is an accessible entry point into the article.
Finally, Rachel Maddow did an excellent job of explaining the whistleblower allegations on Tuesday evening. I have excerpted the 20-minute segment of her show that includes an interview with the whistleblower and his attorney. See The Rachel Maddow Show, Whistleblower Excerpt, April 15, 2025.
As a personal favor to me (and you), I urge you to watch the Rachel Maddow segment. It will bring you up to speed on this scandal, which will be around for a long time and may be the undoing of DOGE.
If you watch the Rachel Maddow show, you will meet the whistleblower--Daniel Berulis—who is a loyal employee of the federal government who says that he “hopes he is wrong” in believing that DOGE exposed sensitive information to someone in Russia who was using a DOGE username and password.
At this very moment, there are hundreds or thousands of Daniel Berulises in the federal government who have not come forward. Daniel Berulis’s example should encourage them to come forward to describe other instances of DOGE misconduct or carelessness that may have harmed America’s interests.
If Berulis’s allegations are true, it is difficult to see how the conduct by at least one DOGE member does not rise to the level of a felony. We need to know more and must be open to the facts, including denials of the allegations. But the allegations are truly shocking and suggest that DOGE may have inflicted grievous injury on the US by exposing confidential information.
CODA: As shocking as the above allegations are, we have reasonable grounds for believing misconduct by Trump administration officials in seeking to conceal their unlawful actions.
Remember Signalgate? You may recall that CIA Director John Ratcliffe participated in chats on an non-secure commercial application. Congress has asked that all such communications be turned over for review.
Well, it might not shock you to learn that the CIA’s information technology team has informed Congress that none of John Ratcliff’s communications on Signal are recoverable. See MSNBC, Missing Signal messages from CIA director’s phone raise cover-up concerns.
Remember after the January 6 insurrection when most of the Secret Service’s texts were mysteriously deleted and therefore unavailable for review by the January 6 Committee? See PBS News, Government watchdog says Secret Service agents deleted Jan. 6 text messages.
Once is a mistake. Twice is a suspicious coincidence. Three times is a damning pattern. Secret Service. Signalgate. DOGE. It appears that actors within the Trump administration believe that destroying communications is an acceptable way to avoid accountability. It is up to Congress and the courts to get to the bottom of the DOGE NLRB incident and Signalgate as quickly as possible—before more evidence goes missing.

Dude, this is killing me.
I genuine cannot understand how trump voters are choosing this guy. Like, WHY???
This man is a nepo baby and has never worked a real day in his life.
He's friends with Diddy and praised the bastard.
He's found guilty of 34 felonies.
He wants to turn the US into a fascist country.
He was friends with Jeffery Epstein.
He's friends with Elon Musk, a fellow nepo baby who's kids don't even want to associate with him. Who think women shouldn't be able to vote. Who didn't even design Tesla, but just bought it. Who's a massive fucking hypocrite. Who is a hateful bastard.
He hypersexualizes and objectifies women.
His only real defense is anti-immigration (bullshit), anti-LGBT (more bullshit), and misogynistic (surprise surprise, even more bullshit).
He's a horrible person. He doesn't care about this country, or the majority of people in it. He doesn't care about women's bodily autonomy. He doesn't care about survival.
He feeds lies and propaganda to make you think he'll make a change.
The only thing this man cares about is power and winning. And the people that voted for him are supporting that.
And if you're worried about the economy, let me tell you something.
Democrats don't fuck up the economy. Republicans do.
The way the government system works is that every policy takes time. A republican gets into office, and starts putting forth all these policies that aren't really going to take a strong effect until their term is almost up. Then a democrat gets into office and gets the blame for the negative effects that the policy has taken. They put in changes to fix it, which takes time. Their term is up. A republican takes office, and gets the credit for the benefits, only to fuck it all up again.
Also, Kamala Harris can't use tax dollars to fund sex changes for illegal immigants (because we've all seen that one ad). That's not the way the American healthcare system works, and sex changes are done through the American healthcare system. We'd have to be more of a socialist country for our tax dollars to go towards that. (Not that anyone should care about what someone wants to do to their body to feel more comfortable in their own skin.)
This man does not care about this country, so he should not be getting votes. And not voting for Kamala or Trump isn't going to help either. Independent parties pull votes away to give power to the Republicans. Most of the people who vote outside of the two major political groups are liberals. Which makes it more likely for the Republican party to win.
Stop voting for yourself, if you do this. Vote for the people who are going to be affected. Vote for the women who are going to die because they can't get the healthcare they need. Vote for the transgender individuals who are going to be hurt and attacked for something that we should all be sympathetic for. Vote for the people who aren't going to be able to marry those they love. Vote for the people who are going to lose the ability to safely practice their religion.
I've seen so many Republican woman talk about how "well it doesn't affect me, so why should I care?"
You should care because of human decency. Because of empathy.
Also, fun fact, the more educated you are, the more likely you are to vote liberal.
(It's British, but the point remains. I couldn't find the one specific towards US statistics. But it's almost 2 in the morning, so forgive me.)
And one of the first groups to be attacked in a fascist state is the more educated and intellectual individuals.
Secondly... Do you really want this being the face of America for four more years?

Writing Advice #?: Don’t write out accents.
The Surface-Level Problem: It’s distracting at best, illegible at worst.
The following passage from Sons and Lovers has never made a whit of sense to me:
“I ham, Walter, my lad,’ ’e says; ‘ta’e which on ’em ter’s a mind.’ An’ so I took one, an’ thanked ’im. I didn’t like ter shake it afore ’is eyes, but ’e says, ‘Tha’d better ma’e sure it’s a good un. An’ so, yer see, I knowed it was.’”
There’s almost certainly a point to that dialogue — plot, character, theme — but I could not figure out what the words were meant to be, and gave up on the book.  At a lesser extreme, most of Quincey’s lines from Dracula (“I know I ain’t good enough to regulate the fixin’s of your little shoes”) cause American readers to sputter into laughter, which isn’t ideal for a character who is supposed to be sweet and tragic.  Accents-written-out draw attention to mechanical qualities of the text.
Solution #1: Use indicators outside of the quote marks to describe how a character talks.  An Atlanta accent can be “drawling” and a London one “clipped”; a Princeton one can sound “stiff” and a Newark one “relaxed.”  Do they exaggerate their vowels more (North America) or their consonants more (U.K., north Africa)?  Do they sound happy, melodious, frustrated?
The Deeper Problem: It’s ignorant at best, and classist/racist/xenophobic at worst.
You pretty much never see authors writing out their own accents — to the person who has the accent, the words just sound like words.  It’s only when the accent is somehow “other” to the author that it gets written out.
And the accents that we consider “other” and “wrong” (even if no one ever uses those words, the decision to deliberately misspell words still conveys it) are pretty much never the ones from wealthy and educated parts of the country.  Instead, the accents with misspelled words and awkward inflection are those from other countries, from other social classes, from other ethnicities.  If your Maine characters speak normally and your Florida characters have grammatical errors, then you have conveyed what you consider to be correct and normal speech.  We know what J.K. Rowling thinks of French-accented English, because it’s dripping off of Fleur Delacour’s every line.
At the bizarre extreme, we see inappropriate application of North U.K. and South U.S.-isms to every uneducated and/or poor character ever to appear in fan fic.  When wanting to get across that Steve Rogers is a simple Brooklyn boy, MCU fans have him slip into “mustn’t” and “we is.”  When conveying that Robin 2.0 is raised poor in Newark, he uses “ain’t” and “y’all” and “din.”  Never mind that Iron Man is from Manhattan, or that Robin 3.0 is raised wealthy in Newark; neither of them ever gets a written-out accent.
Solution #2: A little word choice can go a long way, and a little research can go even further.  Listen carefully to the way people talk — on the bus, in a café, on unscripted YouTube — and write down their exact word choice.  “We good” literally means the same thing as “no thank you,” but one’s a lot more formal than the other.  “Ain’t” is a perfectly good synonym for “am not,” but not everyone will use it.
The Obscure Problem: It’s not even how people talk.
Look at how auto-transcription software messes up speaking styles, and it’s obvious that no one pronounces every spoken sound in every word that comes out of their mouth.  Consider how Americans say “you all right?”; 99% of us actually say something like “yait?”, using tone and head tilt to convey meaning.  Politicians speak very formally; friends at bars speak very informally.
An example: I’m from Baltimore, Maryland.  Unless I’m speaking to an American from Texas, in which case I’m from “Baltmore, Marlind.”  Unless I’m speaking to an American from Pennsylvania, in which case I’m from “Balmore, Marlin.”  If I’m speaking to a fellow Marylander, I’m of course from “Bamor.”  (If I’m speaking to a non-American, I’m of course from “Washington D.C.”)  Trying to capture every phoneme of change from moment to moment and setting to setting would be ridiculous; better just to say I inflect more when talking to people from outside my region.
When you write out an accent, you insert yourself, the writer, as an implied listener.  You inflict your value judgments and your linguistic ear on the reader, and you take away from the story.
Solution #3: When in doubt, just write the dialogue how you would talk.

hello, I'm transguy who's on diy T for two months because transitioning banned in my country, I wanted to ask what blood analysis I should do for my first check up(next month) to know that I'm not in danger? sending love
hello, thank you for taking the time to send this ask, i appreciate it. this is something i need to be educated on as well, so i'm going to try to ask the community for help for you as much as i can
i would say be careful. we do want you to get bloodwork to make sure that your blood pressure is okay, your liver enzymes, your red blood cell count, making sure your levels aren't too high or too low. i do worry that asking for a test may alert them to your situation and potentially out you as trans to them. however, what i would say in your situation is to tell them you have naturally high testosterone and avoid the HRT question for now. you need the care
asking for anon, please help if you live in a country where transition is illegal and you are DIYing transition with hormones:
how do you think its safest to go about asking for tests that cover these specific areas? hrt affects very specific parts of the body and our various systems. we need to make sure that there is a focus on your red blood cell count, your blood pressure, your liver enyzmes, your estrogen levels as well (they may be too high). is there a way to ask for this test that doesn't mention hormone levels?
we want to ensure your safety. i don't know if it's illegal for doctors to out you for these kinds of things. push comes to shove you can ask for certain tests if you tell a gynecologist or other doctor that you feel like something is wrong with your hormone levels, or that youre having issues with certain things like facial hair, fucked up menstrual cycles, and so on. i'm not sure how safe it would be to outright ask for the test but we also want to ensure your safety. i'd love to get feedback from people who live in countries where it is illegal to transition but have done so anyway. i want you to be safe
please let us know if you can give anon help. we really want to learn about this. i can only speak from my experience because i live in america in a state where it is legal to do so. there are states in the US where it isn't legal to transition, so if any of you have experience with this please let us know as well. there are unfortunately many places in the world where transition the healthiest way isn't accessible.
please feel free to send asks if you have information on this. for now, take care anon, stay safe. you are more than welcome to ask any more questions you may have

Hang on, I need to warm up my eye-rolling muscles.
NEARLY ALL ECONOMISTS AGREE THIS BENEFITS YOU A LOT.
Tumblr media
Citation needed.
How, exactly? Is it a supply of below-minimum-wage labour that can be paid under the table?
How many illegal immigrants care about what the economists say, and aren't just trying to get in to benefit themselves and their loved ones?
WE'RE GONNA BLAME YOU FOR ALL OUR PROBLEMS
The president is literally married to an immigrant, and is tight with Elon Musk. Who is a pro-immigration immigrant himself. Didn't Trump say he supported visas for highly educated people?
Oh, right, y'all don't care about them. Complicate the narrative.
The part you're deliberately leaving out is "illegal".
Weird how immigrants know what US economists say, but also want to get into a country that's horrible for them.
>eating housepets
Oh, you were actually referring to legal immigrants. Specifically, Haitians. Even though most of the immigration controversy is explicitly over illegal immigrants, from Latin America.
And you somehow decided that this minority amount of immigrants represents the majority of them. Totally not cherry-picking.
Also, ow.
EDIT: Also, anecdata; I have tons of relatives who are immigrants to America. Also from the Caribbean, also black. They haven't reported any racism.

The ALA's State of America's Libraries Report for 2024 is out now.
2023 had the highest number of challenged book titles ever documented by the ALA.
You can view the full PDF of the report here. Book ban/challenge data broken down by state can be found here.
If you can, try to keep an eye on your local libraries, especially school and public libraries. If book/program challenges or attacks on library staff are happening in your area, make your voice heard -- show up at school board meetings, county commissioner meetings, town halls, etc. Counterprotest. Write messages of support on social media or in your local papers. Show support for staff in-person. Tell others about the value of libraries.
Get a library card if you haven't yet -- if you're not a regular user, chances are you might not know what all your library offers. I'm talking video games, makerspaces (3D printers, digital art software, recording equipment, VR, etc.), streaming services, meeting spaces, free demonstrations and programs (often with any necessary materials provided at no cost!), mobile WiFi hotspots, Library of Things collections, database subscriptions, genealogy resources, and so on. A lot of electronic resources like ebooks, databases, and streaming services you can access off-site as long as you have a (again: free!!!) library card. There may even be services like homebound delivery for people who can't physically come to the library.
Also try to stay up to date on pending legislation in your state -- right now there's a ton of proposed legislation that will harm libraries, but there are also bills that aim to protect libraries, librarians, teachers, and intellectual freedom. It's just as important to let your representatives know that you support pro-library/anti-censorship legislation as it is to let them know that you oppose anti-library/pro-censorship legislation.
Unfortunately, someone being a library user or seeing value in the work that libraries do does not guarantee that they will support libraries at the ballot. One of the biggest predictors for whether libraries stay funded is not the quantity or quality of the services, programs, and materials it offers, but voter support. Make sure your representatives and local politicians know your stance and that their actions toward libraries will affect your vote.
Here are some resources for staying updated:
If you're interested in library advocacy and staying up to date with the challenges libraries are facing in the U.S., check out EveryLibrary, which focuses on building voter support for libraries.
Book Riot has regular articles on censorship attempts taking place throughout the nation, which can be found here, as well as a Literary Activism Newsletter.
The American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom focuses on the intellectual freedom component of the Library Bill of Rights, tracks censorship attempts throughout each year, and provides training, support, and education about intellectual freedom to library staff and the public.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation focuses on intellectual freedom in the digital world, including fighting online censorship and illegal surveillance.
I know this post is long, but please spread the word. Libraries need your support now more than ever.
