After almost 7 years I finally am gonna dig into nostalgia and make the AU I wasn't able to.
I hope my younger self will be proud.
I named it WhichTale to be a play on words of which undertale AU it is because if you look down my history I tried making one in the first place. Cringe but it was very story-driven, just how I liked it.
I didn't go beyond what I had already made so I didn't post much.
Let's just say this is a whole ass reboot. A big one. Idk if I'll be able to draw for this AU as much but it will be more story-heavy.
I'm a little shy with posting my own stuff in a community as old as this, but since nostalgia has fallen into my hands I might as well revive this mess of an account.
(Ironically it was thanks to Undertale Yellow that it went back to my algorithm. Got me to realize I'm a better artist than I was and a not-so-bad writer, so why the heck not.)
Warning! The way lore and story plots will be a bit non-linear. If I ever make enough ill try to link it all up but for now it's gonna be a cluster fuck of a find.
Enjoy!

It Comes in Waves
Chapter 3: Surging Waves
Trafalgar Law x gn!reader tw; some violence and mentions of slavery word count: 3.9k first|prev|next
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Six months have passed. Six months since you saw Luffy off. Six months since you've seen the Heart Pirates. Six months since Ace died. That day still haunted you and it’s all the papers talked about for weeks. You had only read the first one, barely able to stomach it. He had taken a molten fist through the chest by the same guy who had almost taken Luffy from you. The one you had hit with a spear.
If only you could’ve been there sooner…would it have made a difference?
Ace wasn’t the only significant death in the war. The world had lost an emperor and a father figure to many. Edward Newgate, also known as ‘Whitebeard.’ He was Ace’s captain and a wonderful man. You had the pleasure of meeting him a few times. He was always kind and caring, you could see why so many people called him ‘pops.’ You even found yourself calling him the same. He had even asked you to join his crew a couple of times, but you declined every time. He respected your decision, never pushing you but always welcoming your visits. Learning that he also died had sent you into an even deeper spiral.
After you left on your own, you threw yourself into work. The work that always prevented you from joining anyone’s crew. The work that you had been part of for a bit over a decade now. The work that had granted you your high bounty and made you an enemy of the Celestial Dragons. It was neverending work.
When Ace died and you left Luffy, you were so angry at the world. How could it take more people from you? Hadn’t you suffered enough? You took it out in your work. You were ruthless and relentless in your mission, giving yourself no time to rest in between heists. You were running yourself ragged, which almost landed you in the hands of the marines a couple of times.
As time ebbed on,  the anger subsided and you let yourself slow down. You were running on fumes and that wouldn’t help anyone. If anything, you could make situations worse for everyone involved. You needed to take time to reboot. You also figured it was time to…process. Something you didn’t let yourself do. You’d kept your mind busy with your mission that you didn’t have time to dwell on it.
The island you landed on was that of a tropical one. Those were the ones you liked to stop at. They…reminded you of home. This one even had a large market that reminded you of the ones your island would have. Busy streets, lots of exotic foods, smiling faces of laughing families. It was bittersweet in your eyes.
You wandered the streets, taking it all in. You liked to familiarize yourself with the area before you settled in for the night. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary for the most part. It seemed to be a peaceful place and somewhat of a resort hotspot. That could be good or that could be bad. And you were about to find out that it would be the latter.
Someone called your name. Not your name you go by everyday, no. But your government name. The one that was all over your wanted posters. The one people weren’t supposed to know if you weren’t in your iconic cloak. You weren’t supposed to be recognizable.
Your blood ran cold and you faltered in your steps. A hand wrapped around your arm, catching you in an iron grip. Slowly, your head turned around as the voice also was familiar. Your eyes trailed up and it was him. Dalton Anwir. The man that had led the invasion of your island, slaughtered and enslaved your people. Enslaved you.
“I found you,” he spat, pure venom dripping into his words as his grip tightened on your arm. You shook your head, feeling panic set in. All of your years of fighting suddenly leaving you. You had no idea how to react right now. “I-I think you're mistaken,” you stammered, trying to pull away but unable to put up much of a fight with the amount of fear currently coursing through your veins. You wouldn’t be surprised if you were shaking. You could already hear the world growing more and more distant, the cries of your people echoing in your mind.
He suddenly grabbed your necklace and you stopped moving. “I can recognize this a mile away.” A malicious smile spread across his face. “You know your little stunt got me demoted. I acquired all those slaves but you were the one that a very important person wanted most.” He closed your necklace in his hand. “I know how important this is to your people. I don't know why, just that it is.” He pulled it slowly towards him and you followed. You couldn’t let it break. It was not only important in general but it was all you had left and carried everything you held dear to you. Close to your heart.
You knew it wouldn't break easy but you also couldn't let him tug it off either. You stayed there, staring at him, and unable to form words. Your mind was spinning. This couldn’t be happening. He couldn’t be here. He couldn’t recognize you. Why? Why did this have to happen?
Then a fist connected with your jaw and you began to fall to the ground when you felt him grab a fistful of your hair and pull you back up causing you to cry out in pain. The world turned blurry and the edges of your vision darkened. You couldn't think straight. How the hell was this happening? The last time you saw him was the North Blue. How the hell was he here? In the New World? There was no fucking way that this was happening right now.
“Please, just let me go,” you pleaded weakly, causing him to laugh. It was the first words you were really able to form and it fell on deaf ears. Not that you expected him to listen in the first place. “You think I'm going to let you go again? Absolutely not. You're coming with me and I'm getting my position back.”
He yanked you by your hair once more and you cried out once again, hands flying to the hand that was pulling on your hair. “Please!” You were desperate. You had no idea what to do. Everything you knew was gone and once more, you felt like the small child you once were. You pleaded then, just as you were now. The results were the same.
He lifted you by your hair and his fist connected to your jaw again but this time he let you fall to the ground. Once more, the world spun and your vision went white for a moment. Your head smacked the ground pretty hard and you were fighting to stay conscious at this point. Suddenly, you felt a heavy boot connect with your stomach and the world grew darker. A ring started in your ears - high pitched and annoying. You started coughing, spitting blood onto the gravel below you. You felt your body growing heavier and heavier but you couldn’t let yourself pass out.
You looked up, world still spinning and blurry. After a moment, you were able to make out his outline and his leg was rearing back, getting ready to connect with your stomach once again. You didn’t even have the strength to vocally protest let alone physically.
“Room.”
A voice rang through the alleyway, almost omnipresent. A blue light enveloped you - almost too bright. You moved your hands to shield your eyes only to realize it wasn’t a light source. What the hell? Your head was ringing so you couldn't really make out the voice either. You watched as the man began to bring his foot down to stomp on you when you heard the omnipotent voice once more.
“Shambles.”
Next thing you knew, you were wrapped around something both soft like fur and rough like clothing. You blinked, trying to make the world stop spinning and make sense of the world around you. “W-what?” The attempt at speaking threw you into another coughing fit and you covered your mouth with your hand, wincing as you did so. Broken ribs definitely. When you pulled your hand away, you noticed more blood. Shit, you might just die.
Now that you weren’t in harm’s way and had a moment to recollect yourself, the world stopped spinning and it was slightly clearer. It was still a lot, however. You also weren’t at your best either.You hadn’t been taking care of yourself, after all.
“Y/n?” You looked up, noticing that you were in the arms of a polar bear. You were about to freak out before your memory helped you out. Right. He was part of that one guy’s crew. What was his name? Tra-? Traf? Traffy? No, that wasn’t right. You also just couldn’t think right now.
“Hey! What the fuck do you think you're doing?” Dalton barked. That's when you noticed the captain standing in front of you with two other crew members. What were their names? Then the duo looked back at you, offering a thumbs up and a smile. Their names hit you. Shachi and Penguin. You remembered playing cards with them one night when you were staying with them. They were scary good at poker.
You looked towards their captain, taking in his lanky figure. Right. That was Trafalgar Law. It was coming back now.
You blinked, unable to process that this was happening. What were the fucking odds? Did the gods finally decide to have mercy on you? Let you live this miserable life a little longer?
Law didn't answer the prick, looking back to you and quickly assessing your wounds. The expression on his face was illegible but he almost looked…concerned? You didn’t know why. You weren’t on his crew and you weren’t exactly friends. You owed him for saving Luffy but he didn’t owe you anything so…why was he helping?
“You know this is stealing, right?” Those words seemed to ignite a fire in Law’s eyes and anger flowed into them. He turned, very calmly, to the man a few feet from them. Dalton took a few steps forward but once he saw Law’s glare, he stopped.
“Stealing?” The grip on his sword grew tighter. Anger seemed to be radiating off of him despite the poker face he had.
“Yes. That's property of the Celestial Dragons, you see. I'm just taking them back where they belong.” The man smirked, thinking he had the upper hand by mentioning you belong to them. That’s how it usually worked. Throw the name Celestial Dragon out and people did whatever you wanted. They ruled the seas, after all. They were in control and always got what they wanted.
Law didn’t even flinch at the mention of them. His face remained the same, almost bored. Yeah? Well, I'm a pirate. Stealing is what I do.” He lifted his hand.
“Room.” Once more, the blue hue formed, gathering around the area. “Amputate.”
In a flash, the man was in pieces, though not bleeding and still alive. Law was sheathing his sword and you blinked. You hadn’t even seen the doctor move. You blamed it on the state you were in. Everything seemed like it was moving fast and you were having trouble following anything.
“Hey! You can't just leave me like this!” Dalton screamed, the parts wiggling around, trying to move. The doctor turned to you, looking you over. “We need to get you on the submarine.” As he spoke, he was starting to sound further and further away. “Fine! Fine! You can have them! Just put me back together!” The man was growing frantic as Law didn’t seem to have any intention of putting him back together. “You know they’re faulty goods, right? You know what they are, right?” he kept on going, but his words fell on deaf ears, just like your words did earlier.
Law stopped in his tracks, glaring at the man. “I know more about them than you ever will,” he spat.
“Captain!” You heard Bepo call for Law as you descended into darkness.
--
When you came to, your body felt like it weighed a million pounds. Much like it did some months ago. Only this time, you added physical pain to it. This must’ve been close to what Luffy felt like.
You groaned, moving your hand to shield your eyes from the bright lights above. “Oh, are the lights too bright?” A soft voice rang out and the harsh lighting dimmed. You blinked several times, trying to adjust quickly. Where were you? You tried sitting up, only to wince and settle back down. Oh fuck, this was the worst you’ve been in a long time.
“D-Don’t move too much! You're still healing!” You flinched slightly at the sudden noise. You looked over, seeing the polar bear from earlier. What was his name? That’s right. “Oh, don't worry, Bepo. I've been through worse,” you croaked. It was true. You’d been through a lot worse. This was nothing. It was only this bad because of the state you let yourself get to prior to the incident.
“Still! Even if you've been through worse, that doesn't mean that you should ignore the healing process!” A pout formed on Bepo’s face, concern contorting his features. Had he been watching over you while you were out? You faintly remember being in his arms before you passed out. Did he carry you back? Not to mention how you ended up in his arms. You knew that Law had a devil fruit power, you had seen him use it a bit when he was working on Luffy, but you didn’t know much about it otherwise.
Your thoughts came back to reality and you nodded at Bepo, offering a slight smile. “You got it, doc.” You voice was hoarse and felt like you had swallowed gravel.
“Bepo, you're not suffocating our guest, are you?” Law’s voice came from behind the large bear as he moved into view. He looked absolutely exhausted, like he hadn’t been getting any sleep. You supposed he looked like that before, but even moreso right now. What was keeping him up?
“No, captain! I'm just trying to make sure they take it easy. Can't have them unsetting their ribs and opening their wounds.” Bepo frowned at his captain before looking at you. He seemed really worried.
It sounded like that bastard had done more damage to you than you originally thought. You felt like you were hit by a truck, did he really hit you with one? It honestly wouldn’t be surprising. You looked towards the doctor. “So, what’s the damage?”
Law pulled out a clipboard, beginning to read off of it. “Well, the big things are your broken ribs and the gash in your head. You also have some cuts and bruises, but those should all heal just fine.” He looked at you. “If you let yourself rest, that is.” His eyes narrowed as if challenging you to argue with him.
You held up your hands in surrender. “Alright, alright. I get it.” You huffed slightly, rolling your eyes. Was he always this insufferable? How did his crew deal with him at all times? Though, maybe he treated them better because they were his crew and you were just a stranger. A stranger that he just happen to run into for a second time and save your life. Just like he did Luffy.
“Bepo.” Law’s voice seemed a bit soft when he addressed the polar bear. There was care there. Bepo looked at him. “Yes, captain?”
“Would you grab some food for our patient? I would’ve grabbed some on my way back, but I wasn’t sure if they’d be awake just yet.”
“Aye, aye!” The polar bear stood up, saluting his captain and running off.
You watched as Bepo bounded off, kind of sad he left. You liked his presence - nice and soothing. It seemed he had the effect of a teddy bear. One resided in your necklace, but you hardly ever took it out. You didn’t want anything bad to happen to it.
“How long was I out?” you asked, mostly to fill the silence.
“Close to a week.”  Law looked at you, a bit disapprovingly. “Your charts also show that you haven’t been taking care of yourself. That’s probably why you weren’t able to fight back as much and took the amount of damage you did. Not to mention your slow recovery rate.” He sighed, shaking his head.
You were quiet, not saying anything. He was right on the money. You hadn’t been taking care of yourself in the slightest. You couldn’t remember the last time you had a proper, good night sleep or a decent meal. You huffed. “In my defense,” you started, the doctor looking up from his clipboard and towards you. He raised a brow. “That’s why I was on that island. I was going to…recharge, I guess.” You huffed slightly.
With a groan, you covered your face with your hands. You couldn’t believe this happened to you. What were the fucking odds? Both with that bastard and Law coming in to save the day. It was already a miracle someone stepped in and saved you but someone you already knew? Someone that saved the life of someone you held dear? It was weird how coincidental it all was.
You removed your hands from your face, noticing Law just staring at you. “What?” He seemed to be taking you in, his eyes trailing down to your arms. “Those from him too?” He tilted his head.
You look down, realizing for the first time, that you were in a change of clothes. You were covered up as you usually were, but you were sure he probably saw everything in the process. He had to have in order to tend your wounds and check over you anyway. Your wrists and forearms were covered in scars from the cuffs and relentless hard work you were forced to do while you were a slave. There were even some on your torso and thighs. “Bepo was the only other person who saw them if that’s what you’re worried about.” You looked up, shaking your head. You were proud of your scars - not ashamed. They were a reminder of what you had been through. What you survived. It was a constant reminder of your mission as well.
“I’m not worried about that,” you finally spoke, “and it’s not from him, no…well…maybe some of them, but it was a time long ago.” You sighed, shaking your head.
You looked over at Law, who seemed to have a pained expression on his face. “Sorry we weren’t able to make it there any sooner,” he said. You blinked. Why was he apologizing? There was no way he could’ve known what was going on. It was a miracle that he showed up when he did in the first place.
“Don’t say sorry, it’s not your mistake.” You shrugged, sighing. A look of recognition crossed over his face and he looked like he wanted to say something.
At that moment, Bepo came back into the room with food. The smell enveloped you and saliva began building in your mouth. You hadn’t realized how hungry you were until that moment. The tray was placed in your lap. It seemed to be a hearty soup and smelled absolutely delectable. The chair next to your bed was once more occupied by the polar bear.
You looked at Law for a moment. “I should thank you guys.” You inclined your head. “If it wasn’t for you, I’m not exactly sure if I’d be alive.” Even if that bastard hadn’t beaten you to death, you’d rather die than end up enslaved again. The captain said nothing, just nodded and left the room, leaving you and Bepo alone.
It didn’t take long for the polar bear to start prattling on about things. He talked about the ship, the crew members, and different things. You welcomed it, not wanting to have to be alone with your thoughts.
Eventually, you were left alone. Bepo turned in for the night and you were stable enough that you didn’t need someone to watch over you anymore.
Your thoughts drifted off to recent events. That bastard had shown up. If he was there, who the hell else was around? How many of them were stalking the seas? You couldn’t help but feel worry flood your chest. If he had been around and recognized you, it was no doubt other people would possibly recognize you too. Though, what were the chances? Surely they weren’t high enough to stress about.
Your thoughts drifted to the Heart Pirates. If that bastard somehow ended up teaming back up with his colleagues, they’d be in trouble for sure. Especially since Law was well known for being a supernova. You didn’t want them to get wrapped up in all this - especially not after everything they had done to help you.
You moved out of bed, a bit wobbly at first, but fine otherwise. You decided it was best if you left now. You didn’t want to risk anyone catching you. They wouldn’t let you go. Mostly because of the state you were in, but you could take care of yourself. You have many times before.
You spotted your clothes folded neatly off to the side. After a quick change - well, moderate speed, your injuries held you back from being as speedy as you wanted to be - you looked for a pen and paper. It wasn’t long until you found one. It was an infirmary, after all.
You wrote a quick note for the crew. You thanked them for everything. You couldn’t help but feel heartbroken that you had to leave, but it was better this way. Safer for them.
The submarine was quiet and it occurred to you that if you were underwater you were fucked. There wouldn’t be escaping. Unless they had some kind of port that you could exit out of because then you could just use the ocean to get you where you needed to go, but you weren’t sure about all that. Maybe you should’ve paid closer attention to Bepo’s ramblings about the sub earlier.
After heading down the hallway, you listened carefully. Past all the machinery and noises of a submarine, you could hear the ocean waves pushing and splashing against the ship. You let out a sigh of relief, that was going to make this a lot easier. You headed to the upper deck, pausing as you heard a snore. That’s when you noticed Shachi, who was supposedly supposed to be on watch, snoozing away. You silently thanked him for doing so before heading to the railing, opposite of the sleeping guard.
You pressed on your necklace, pulling out the small box that contained your Navis and tossed it into the water. Once it was ready, you hopped in, and sailed into the night. The water was calm and the weather was cool. You took a deep breath, taking in the salty air.
A tightness grew in your chest as well as the feeling that someone was watching you.
So at this point I think I'm deep enough into DMBJ to allow myself to have some Opinions, so here they are:
Books:
I'm only in the early chapters of Vol. 4 (basically the beginning of Ultimate Note) so a lot may change, but so far it's an enjoyable adventure series. It's refreshing that they're allowed to say 'zombie' and 'grave robber'. Also it makes much more internal sense than most of the dramas, not to mention the individual arcs get their proper mini-climaxes instead of leaving you with never ending narrative blueballs.
The consolidation of the Iron Triangle is a lot slower than in the dramas, but I know they'll get there, I've seen all the cute excerpts from the later books!
Also, I'm usually very wary of First Person narration, because the entire enjoyability of the book hinges on how entertaining the Main Character is, there's no escaping their head. Luckily Wu Xie is an interesting and fun head to be in. I cannot logically explain why he's giving me Rincewind vibes, but he kinda does. It's probably the constant internal screaming - though for him, when the 'flight or fight' instinct kicks in, he starts to bite.
Dramas:
The Lost Tomb:
The good: Say what you will, but I like the visuals. Also they were still allowed to say 'zombie' here.
The bad: I have nothing against Yang Yang, but the hair stylist obviously did.
The Lost Tomb 2:
The good: Cheng Yi and his ears.
The bad: ...So did we ever find out wtf was all that about Zhang Buxun? 'Cause if anything even remotely similar happens in the books, it comes up way further back, if at all. (If this thread DOES get resolved in 2,5 then I apologise, but pretty much everyone who mentions that drama warns against bothering with it, so I never did.)
Theirs is probably the least book-like Wu Xie.
Ultimate Note:
The good: Love this Iron Triangle, and generally I had more fun with this than the pervious two dramas.
The bad: I understand that if you don't have much of a budget quality soundtrack is probably the first to go, but I don't have to LIKE it.
Sha Hai:
The good: Man I love this one. Pretty self-contained, also one of the best production-quality-vise. Also all the thumbs-up to Qin Hao for pulling off this ruthless, bitter Wu Xie with just enough hints of the old Tianzhen that you can see this is still the same character.
The bad: Li Cu, my guy, I'm so sorry but I couldn't give a shit about awkward teenage love-stories when I was an awkward teenager and I'm not gonna start now.
Reboot (I'm only at ep. 14, so jury is still out):
The good: Definitely the best production, and I love the soundtrack.
The bad: Did the author fall out of love with Pangzi or...? In all other versions he's fun AND competent, here he's been relegated to a clown. :(
Memory reboot
Masterlist
It all starts with his dark habsuit, no light on his own personal space before he enters and notices that, yes, there is indeed one, the one of your datapad, a new datapad, one that was supposed to be a surprise.
His shout of surprise and rightful mild anger makes you look back, trying to hide the new object with your body even when it is futile, he just saw you, what kind of excuse will you make now?
"That was supposed to be a gift!" his finger accused you while he looked how you rolled to the side, obviously trying to get away, "stop right there, little bean!", Oh, he is using nicknames, corny and old as fuck ones but his last encounter with humans back on earth was way before you were born, he isn't that mad then, it puts an stop to your escape before flashing him with a smile.
"Sorry, couldn't believe it, I thought you forgot again" he makes an exaggerated sound with his cooling vents, like a gasp, his back strut is a perfect 90 grades and it's obvious he remembers the mortification he suffered the last stellar cycle when you presented him a great collection of new human music, not that his taste in music was bad, more like all the bots aboard listened to very old songs that were still hits they were also way too old.
"What an offense" his body moves on top of the berth, servos and stabilizers applying pressure to the new, warm and soft mattress, keeping him above your resting place that looks so comforting, "you wound me if you think I would forget about it", I'll never forget again is what he wants to tell you, and maybe you know it in how your lips give a little peck on his face plate, leaving him speechless before returning to his cool persona, "so where is my gift?".
"Still not here till tomorrow", the mattress moves when you jump in it, Rodimus makes an overly exaggerated sound that could be similar to a child cry, crocodile tears, "or we could go travel", that part makes him light the entire room with a smile.
"I like that idea, if we weren't traveling around as it is", you look at him, not exactly with bedroom eyes, but seeing you sprawled on the soft bed, smiling like that with your gift in hands, is quite tempting enough and makes him feel giddy even when he is supposed to be mad since you spoiled your own gift, your legs trash around a bit and you pat the side next to you repetitively, "What is it?", there is a playfulness on his voice, and you answer with your own.
"You should rest, with me", now your whole body is against the fabric of the mattress, it's tempting, way too tempting, but he knows Magnus will give him a terrible speech about responsibility if he doesn't end his work now, of course you don't know about the pile of datapads back on his desk or you wouldn't invite him to cuddle.
And, damn, he wants to cuddle right now.
"I don't need to rest now, I'm not tired", he brushes off the notification that appears internally, systems telling him to recharge after two whole cycles of work, he'll never admit it but this was his fault, he was supposed to clear his schedule but the crew really needed this equipment and that high grade and it's just- it's difficult to multitask, okay? And he wants to be a free bot tomorrow to spend it with his conjunx endurae wholeheartedly even when you look worried, "I'll be fine".
As if that would stop you from caring for him, to this point he should have known better.
"Hm, but, Roddy, I'll be so lonely without you", ah, ah-no, hell no, you're doing this again, acting cute and everything, what's wrong with humans and their inhumane (ironically) ways of obtaining what they want from sincere and unprotected bots like him?! Worst of it is how you'll have the nerve to be mad if he babies you later! But if he doesn't take the chance now you'll act as if it never happened! So unfair! You notice his internal fight, of course you do but your merciless attack doesn't stop even when he puts his servo up, silently asking you to stop because his vox will glitch if he uses it now, nevertheless you are a bloody human that uses every deadly charm you can get, just like when you open you arms slightly along with flexing your legs, totally tempting in another level because you know this is doing things to him, "come curl in my arms so I can feel whole again"
OH-kay! This is it, he can see the notification of his system about to activate the gears to open his interface panel and the sound of his vents about to die from overuse, but he is a hard bot, he'll no crack by such an attack.
And you, little devil, who knows he is weak to you acting like- like-, "what? Are you trying to seduce me into healthy recharge patterns?" He is close to the door, if he gets to get out then this conversation can, hopefully, continue later, just a few steps more-
But no, it's almost funny how you get to read him and his actions so well, getting up and leaving the new datapad in what you call nightstand, just to take your blanket, the blanket; he could've run away when you did your little detour but he couldn't rip his optics away from your bare legs, the pijama shorts doing a good job in catching his attention, you may call him crazy but he is sure you use those in purpose, worst of it all? He loves those shorts, and he loves that blanket, is the one you use to sleep on him after cuddling or after marital duties (ones he accomplishes like a champ), and he knows that you know, the closed smile on your little face is prove enough, "why? Is it working?"
Rodimus is weak, he has always been weak when it comes to you, so he isn't surprised when hours later he is laying on the mattress, system rebooting back to consciousness, at least his body returned back from the mass displacement with it, the dreamy bliss of the aftermath accompanied with your gentle strokes on his neck cables make his pedes move by the overstimulation, and you know it, he hears your giggles when a moan comes out of his vox again by the right movement of your hands over his energon lines, suddenly your teasing movements stop after giving a kiss to his neck armor, his audial receptor can hear how the fabric moves as you put your clothes back on, climbing your way to his chest armor with your blanket in hand.
The soft hum of his ventilation system slows down, holding your body to his chassis, just were he can see you before and after recharge, "Happy anniversary", you say it almost as saying good night when the digital clock turns to midnight, you give a little kiss over the armor before dripping off to sleep with the blanket around you.
Rodimus just stays there, not moving, basking in this moment, remember the sensation of your body weight over him, knowing that once he closes his optics the simulation of the golden disk will end, yellow digits reach out to your now sleeping form, trying to touch your hair, your skin, or just feel the warmth of your body but they just go forward, the hologram can't retain it's form and he sees how it starts to fail.
"Yeah, happy anniversary", that's his voice but he hasn't activated his vox to say them, it's all a memory, a video of that night, one he has been indulging the past cycles, the simulation ends because this is the exact moment he entered recharge.
When it ends he is still on his habsuit, the one you two shared, the mattress is long gone because he couldn't look at it, he can't look at anything that was once yours without painting his grieving marks under his optics again, it was better than doing something more stupid or dangerous, he has already been doing stupid things for all this time.
He needs to keep going, he must, and to do so he is supposed to accept his lost, say: "Happy anniversary" to the nothingness even when this is the hardest date for him, memories of happiness that drag him down, memories of the second anniversary of your conjunx ritus, it's hard to believe you were here to celebrate with him your 14th anniversary when he is here right now, this was supposed to be the 15th, a total stellar cycle since he lost you.
And he still needs to keep moving forward.
.
Inspired by @lost-light-incorrect-quotes and this piece of work, it may be short but damn, those little and centered words give me some ideas that go wild quickly and sadder by the second because I like to cry over these things, it's good for the soul.
Accompany this one with VØX x Narvent song of the same name and you have this mess of mine.
Thoughts on the TDI Reboot Season Two, Episodes 5 and 6
Okay the next two episodes of the reboot have premiered, and here are my collective thoughts on the characters and what's been happening. Spoilers below the cut, obviously.
Nichelle is out 5th and quit on top of that thanks to a fake movie contract planted by Julia. Honestly that kind of surprised me; my prediction was that Nichelle would make it to the merge where she'd get voted off because her improved athleticism made her a threat. I thought it would be ironic: in season one she was eliminated for being weak, and in season two she'd be eliminated for being too strong. Well at least Julia got some villain cred, even if it was a bit contrived and felt like Nichelle needed to lose some IQ points to make it possible. I'm not too broken up, but I can see why others might take issue with it.
(You know what would be hilarious though? If when the eliminated campers return for the finale, Nichelle reveals that people in Hollywood saw her improved performance in season two and actually did give her a movie deal.)
Instead, it was Bowie eliminated first after the merge. Now this makes much more sense: after MK's cheating was exposed, Julia convinced team Rat Face that it was Bowie's idea. Priya and Caleb were both victims of Bowie's schemes at some point, Zee is easy to fool, and Axel and Damien wouldn't know Bowie and MK well enough to know for sure but they do know Bowie placed second last season so they know he's a threat. In any case I really enjoyed Bowie this season: I loved the drama of him being torn between wanting to play dirty while not wanting to upset Raj. And he and Raj are adorable together, so I'm glad the cheating didn't lead to any major problems in their relationship.
Speaking of which, I loved Wayne and Raj standing up for their principles in episode five and refusing to go along with MK and Julia's schemes. And they continue to be hilarious on top of that. If I'm being honest though I kind of hope one of them goes soon, so we can finally see how the other gets along without his bro.
Then there's Zee, who continues to be absolutely hilarious. "I killed Priya's pillow boyfriend!" had me rolling. And he's actually involved with a plotline now! He knows about Priya's crush on Caleb and that Caleb is only looking for an alliance. Or at least, he was...
Caleb appears to be actually falling for Priya. Very interesting development. And Priya continues to be head over heels for Caleb, but at least she recognizes that she can't let it affect her game. Very interested to see where things go with them as a potential ship.
As for our other ship, Ripper and Axel seem to be getting along very well. I've seen some people comparing them to how Geoff and Bridgette were in TDA, but I think that's unfair. Sure they're into each other but not to the point where they can't focus on the game. (Axel getting distracted by Bowie's claim that Ripper was making out with a raccoon not withstanding.) Now that the teams have merged I hope we can see them spending time together and bonding in a way that involves more than making out. I'm surprisingly invested in this ship.
Well look at that, Damien actually won a challenge! I was hoping he'd start being more proactive in season two, and now we might finally be getting that. Especially since he's said he wants to find the immunity idol that's now in play, which Priya and Caleb are also hunting for...
Last but certainly not least, Julia and MK. Julia got some major villain cred these episodes, getting Nichelle and her arch enemy Bowie eliminated. Meanwhile MK's intern scheme was exposed, so that plotline's over. (I love how Chris had no problem with her cheating, but her stealing his hairdryer crossed the line.) They continue to be great together as a bad guy duo, and I can't wait to see more of it. (Especially if it evolves into romance, as I and many others are hoping for.)
Also, here's a bit of irony I noticed: in season one, Julia got eliminated in episode 6, and in season two Julia saved MK from elimination in episode 6.
And that's everyone. Aside from a few minor complaints, I'm still loving this season! The characters are all great, the plotlines are engaging, and the jokes are absolutely hilarious. And best of all I have no idea who could be going home next, so I'm very excited for the next episodes.
Quick Thoughts on "Motendo/Lifedeath Part 1" from X-Men '97
This...is a weird one. Because instead of having two full-length episodes, or one episode with two different story lines co-existing with each other, X-Men '97 kind of just...stuck two episodes together and called it a day. Which is a shame because both of these would have been REALLY GOOD if they were left on their own, as the horrid pacing makes each story miss the mark, if just a little.
"Motendo" has what's honestly a great premise for a show like this. It honestly reminds me of Ducktales 2017, in a way, where it does more than reboot the original story, but brings back characters from different shows, comics, and even video games. With "Motendo" we have an episode that brings 90s X-Men fans back by having Jubilee and her boy toy Sunspot going through what I guess you could call an abridged version of X-Men Arcade. It's a cute reference that's gotta make the fans feel all the nostalgia, and the cool twist is that's the point the episode is making. The overall theme is that while nostalgia can make you feel good despite all the craziness in your life, you still need to remember to, well, live your life. It's all about going forward, not constantly moving backwards. Kind of ironic that we're getting this through a REVIVAL, but I still love that it's telling fans, new and old, the dangers of living the past. Makes it feel like it has more to do and say other than being that same old X-Men show you grew up with.
I'd definitely say "Motendo" is the one segment of this episode that's left somewhat better off with this little...mashing. I DO think we could have spent more time with Jubilee being taken in by the game and the nostalgic memories connected to them, all while Roberto acts as the angel on her shoulder, of course. Still, it gives off the message well and ends in a cute way. Can't really complain that much...What I can complain about is "Lifedeath Part 1."
Keep in mind, I do love ALL the bits that happen with Storm in this. She's trying so hard to process what happened to her and all the heartache she feels when things go wrong is empathetic. I feel bad for her during this one highly emotional scene, as I was as hopeful as her that things would turn out only to feel a weight on my heart when it all comes crashing down. The writers did a GREAT job on that. The problem lies on the piss poor pacing between Storm and Forge's relationship, with Forge having this out of nowhere confession that makes Storm's reaction feel hilarious instead of dramatic. It comes with the price of stitching what should have been a slow, easy episode together with one that gives you a sugar high with how fun it is. Everything goes by too quick to appreciate the dramatic moments, which should be OUTSTANDING but are just....good. They're good moments that don't have enough time to let you sit on them because the episode itself doesn't have enough time. At least it ends on a cliffhanger that makes me excited to see what happens next, so...There's that.
If you'd ask me, I'd say that "Motendo/Lifedeath Part 1" is probably the weakest episode so far. None of it's really bad. We still get some fun, cute, and heartbreaking moments that prove why this show is so strong. It's just the fact that they took two wildly different episodes, mashed them together, and called them ONE that causes the whole thing to feel imperfect. I liked it a lot, but we could have used more time.
Ayoooooo, the Miraculous salt fandom really is a different breed of toxic and hateful. They rly ought to tone it down bc Lila Rossi isn’t coming back. I don’t like Lila either but they just make so much hate content and not just slipping past the filters that it’s baffling.
Everytime I read or look for crossover content, this is exactly how I feel bc I don’t want to see any miraculous characters or even a mere mention in them. I feel like going into a trap filled maze these days.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Miraculous Plague Fandom is filled with a lot people who have nothing else better to do but be oxymorons. Ignoring or taking a break from Lila is not their strong suit. Lila took two breaks why can't this fandom try that instead of consuming their curse of hatred. You even got that Mariah Chloe voice over being asking what with people hate towards Lila. Then you see a gang of losers (even constructing their comments in a mask to shut down her or anyone's interest in Lila) being static same old scrubs but it figures.
It's amusing to me. There's video saying she's an aimless antagonist with the usual crap that reels in Lila haters usually to wank to or increase their extreme seeethery. But what makes me laugh is observing how aimless this stupid moronculous fandom ironically is. The folly of the aimless miraculous maleficent plaguedom.
They are just a bunch of Ripslingers to Dusty Crophopper (if you're familiar with that movie or the game). Or I can say they want to be brave but will disperse when someone says some messed crap against her without realizing that would affect many things. From hating the writers crap and how things are going to wanting the worst done upon Lila by the writers.
Like HUH. They dislike to loathe the ml&cn writers or characters and spam all this here's what I'll do or rewrites AUs whatever but they would want who they hate to make things worse in a leave fandom inducing way, after this Recreation crap. Loathe writers but wants the show to be better or reboot or be within their standards but wants to stuff in their minds some loathsome crap against Lila. REAL INTELLIGENT, EH?
For a plague filled fandom that thinks they truly know what's up. Well... They ironically found a way to be more dumb or pathetic than characters in the show ever can be. Makes since though because they haven't realized Lila's existence is the true attack upon this miracle plague fandom but they are distracted and fooled themselves so badly that they might not ever see or let go.
Sucks though cause I know around several more characters from other series that get treated just as bad or even worse for bigger dumb reasons (Prosecutor Godot/Diego Armando, Shadow in his own game or the game itself, Princess Elise, Wallflower Blush, Broly The Legendary Super Saiyan, Sasuke Uchiha, his parents, and his clan). Fandoms tend to ignore context and latch onto to manure and bandwagon the propaganda against this character train. Even if you show it was never like that, it's almost always too late. Many are just completely incapable of understanding. They pick what they wish is valid. If it doesn't meet their interest... Well Compromise Doesn't Exist. Conform and boot lick or Resist or Die trying (I think I'm gonna start calling the ladyplague fandom, Leaf Villagers or shinobi drones).
That fiance death thanks to this accursed fandom wasn't even enough to gets these buffoons to chill or rethink or lay in grass. Soon as she faded into memory, the true nature of the ladyplaguedom showed their faces. Instability of handling Lila even made some completely turn their back because they didn't get what they wanted despite they could be better and let go but nope as you know the splurge of salt fics through the years (couple to few years on here, like almost every week searching Lila Rossi and there's like a cluster of salt prompts or salt fic links or memes to mock her. It was annoying.)
Other sites the hatred is strong too (twitter reddit but deviantart specifically where Sunset Shimmer makes her bleed or Kagami and Marinette I think punch her stomach and she's damaged. Reactions to Lila by other characters from other shows or being destroyed or harmed by them. Other forms of vilification or dehumanization). YouTube was slightly less until defenders or neutrals vanished or went inactive (1-5 channels).
It's technically worse here.
Though surfing and tragically find people going out their way to have or prompt rape fics of Lila . Guess what? It's the main heroes Ladybug and Cat Noir doing it. And then November of 2023 some scrum prompted scum to make a story of Lila being violated by Adrien because Lila got Marinette expelled. Then later on the recents feed another days later on lila rossi search. A disgusting ask with the user then replied with the after affects. Crap like this related crap on A03 too (but figures heck some person had Adrien violate Marinette too. What is with people making this ruined destroyed one that? Like why?)
Revelation really solidified why this maggot infested fandom deserves to be derided but let them be distracted by Confrontation and think they achieved something. Lila starts doing cosplay and it destroyed this fandom but really it was just a Cerise on top the Lila cake of Revelation. She can do the same dang thing without being Cerise but stupid viewers want to go too deep into it. So deep that they discovered a new reason to want to hate clown or fear her. So deep that they go out their way thirsting her to be an adult and so deep they can't see why that should not be quenched for.
Stupid humans so bored or absolutely pathetic that they actually found the ultimate way to spit on that woman fan of Lila.
Kind of fascinating.
Hating so much without thinking beyond.
TRUE FLOPS
Idk. Perhaps you go on a blocking everyone spree or tag. Tumblr tagging is weird. it doesn't always like specifically show up with results to what was searched.
Like if you search umm "fugly fandom", results may show that or "fandom" or "beautiful fandom" or some ice cube image and one of the tags say "fugly ice" which cross tags it presence. I guess search tags here kind of works like an "and or" statement.
All I can say is do what you can to avoid or ignore ML it on social media.
Flynn making Sonic so weak reminds me of that moment in the Post-Reboot Archie in which Sonic is stopped and captured by two guys just grabbing his arms and dragging him away even when he was running (I think it's because he was on ice that it didn't do any effect but if they managed to drag him away then it wasn't that big of a issue and it's not like he hasn't run on ice before)
Funny enough when I brought that up people started complaining that I was thinking Sonic was being too OP and his power should be balanced, that was years ago but nowadays I would reply "You know what? Yes he's supposed to be OP, I don't care"
tfw ur name is on the cover of the box art and they still call you too OP. lol you don't hear people complaining that Mario is too OP
Yeah like. Sonic isn't invincible, nor should he be. He can still have flaws and weaknesses and all that good stuff.
At the same time, however, it's really ironic that for all these complaints that Sega doesn't let Sonic develop or grow in the games, people are content to ignore the actual progression he's had to recycle the same '00s aesthetics over and over. They want more Super Sonic when more Super Sonic is arguably a step backwards. That's not fair to Sonic. It just makes him seem weak, as though he needs a crutch to defeat stronger enemies. It'd be like if they required Shadow to remove his limiters every time a bad guy needed a beatdown. It's just not necessary most of the time and the novelty will eventually wear off.
Omg I'm glad I found a fellow new teen titans hater (or at least critic) because while I think Wolfman had some really neat ideas it really amazes me how so much of what he's written for Dick is like the polar opposite of his character for 40 years and how people ignore that simply because they don't read golden/silver age batman... like I hate reboot Nightwing as much as anyone but it's crazy to me how people think he's always been the most anal about his moral code as if it didn't take years for him to develop it after watching Bruce (like in canon: https://64.media.tumblr.com/f20ae729d626788129a371dab7f790db/5b84ba907a5dc5f9-ac/s1280x1920/e0e719108502d4fa51364eb748450141fd1bcedd.png), or how he'd give up college/a day life to be Robin when in canon he was the one all gung-ho about going to college while Bruce hoped for him to stay home (and ironically enough Bruce quit Wayne Industries himself so he could focus full-time on being Batman lmao: https://64.media.tumblr.com/48945b33fa70a2bfbded0fe6c83017d0/68e853c82fce0d82-5a/s1280x1920/32e3b3ab44fa7364ca82eb63bb8c6d5bbbbb7132.png), or even that Dick wouldn't have the patience to mentor children or something when the literal purpose of creating Robin was to be a role model for children to relate to and sef-insert themselves as his friend, hence why he always excelled in school and sports and stuff...like Bill Finger even created this concept of "Robin's Regulars" to show that Dick liked kids and inspired them (https://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wpPLG-yJpJw/S5v2_3KXjdI/AAAAAAAADnM/1aOMBWuCmT0/s400/robinsregulars.jpg)... the good part is that NTT took place when Dick was just 18-19, I can easily pass it off as his angsty phase that he grew out of in the same way Peter's Ditko era is passed off as his edgy college kid phase in-universe that he outgrew thanks to his friends lmao
admittedly i think trying to ascertain any kind of moral code from bruce or dick in the golden age is a bit of a directionless endeavor bc the writers switched things up soooo often depending on whether they want to pander to morality or comedic value 😭 like there's a golden age issue where bruce quite literally lets= someone die in an electric whirlpool of some kind omds it was hysterical. but yeah interestingly with wolfman i like a lot of the things he did with dick as a character if i view them as developments resulting not only from his personal foray into adulthood but also from the distance that started to grow between him and bruce. it was completely logical for dick to reassess a lot of the things he wanted back when he thought it was going to be him and bruce forever versus at present when bruce clearly no longer wanted to sanction him being robin and dick took that to mean he wasn't good enough (even though bruce was merely being protective and trying to respect dick's own ability to choose his own path in life). the problem with wolfman is that rather than portray it as a series of newfound assessments made in context of newfound developments in dick's life, he wrote these assessments as if they had been lodged in dick's mind since the day he was taken in. which to me at least seems to diminish the significance of dick's development into a more agitated, hyper-emotional control freak. it's not supposed to be something that's always been there. it's more latent. dick's belief in himself with respect to his relationship with bruce sort of hung by a thread for the entirety of their tenure together. that's what happens when you let a nine-year-old become a vigilante and spend nearly nine years together thereafter fighting crime with him as your exclusive partner. it builds expectations, hopes, dreams. for his entire life dick was building up to this.. fantasy almost. and when he went to college it still wasn't so bad because even if there was a desire to be independent he still felt like he had bruce's support. the fantasy remained intact. it was only when dick started to realize that being in college hindered what he really wanted to do with his life, and then bruce opposed him on it, and then they proceeded to disagree on a number of other things—as respectfully as they could admittedly. that was the nice thing about the early 80s. they actually talked in the truest sense of the word—and then bruce finally cut the cord (so to speak) on robin existing as a required extension of batman, that the floodgates really opened. every latent positive emotion that dick had ever felt in his life because of what he believed bruce had given him unconditionally was suddenly up for dissection. and that's how you proceeded to get the neurotic ticking time bomb we know and love so well today. or at least that's how i like to conceptualize it in my head
Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes - Number 31
Welcome to A Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes! During this month-long event, I’ll be counting my Top 31 Favorite Fictional Detectives, from movies, television, literature, video games, and more!
Today, the countdown begins in earnest!
SLEUTH-OF-THE-DAY’S QUOTE: “Be careful, Brain! Those are probably priceless fake artifacts!”
Number 31 is…Inspector Gadget.
Tumblr media
Not every detective on this countdown has to be a GOOD detective. They just have to conform to the rules and regulations I established, and…well…be a detective, in general. While most of the sleuths on this countdown WILL be relatively serious characters – which is to say, they’ll actually be good at their jobs, no matter how silly they at first appear – there are a couple that will fall into the “Bungling Detective” trope. These are comical, parodical characters who are decidedly NOT good at their jobs. Most of them are, weirdly enough, given the title of “Inspector,” which really makes you wonder how terrible the law enforcement offices in these universes must be.
Out of all the bumblers and baboons who wear an inspector’s badge, I think many would agree with me that Inspector Gadget is quite possibly the single most dunderheaded lout of the entire bunch. In terms of sheer ability, Gadget is arguably the single worst detective of all time. This character is SUCH a goofy loser, that I actually had a couple of people outright telling me, when I told them about this concept, that he shouldn’t be included. HE’S. THAT. BAD. So why IS he on the list, after all? Well…like I said, competency isn’t really an issue here, and I do have a big nostalgic soft spot for the (not so) good Inspector, so he gets a pass at the end of the day.
For those who don’t know, “Inspector Gadget” was a 1980s cartoon series, which focused on the adventures of its titular character: a clumsy and dimwitted cyborg, who was part of an elite group of law enforcement agents. The organization’s goal is to take down a mysterious mad scientist, Dr. Claw: the leader of an evil gang of international felons known as M.A.D. Gadget would be sent out on missions to defeat Claw and his minions…and he would always louse it up, because Gadget is a complete moron. This was the great, humorous conceit of the series: Gadget is a bionically enhanced living superweapon, with all kinds of gizmos at his disposal…but the combination of him having two left feet and only half of a brain cell ultimately renders all that power thoroughly worthless. He’s too busy tripping over his own “Go-Go Gadget Oil Slick!” to have any HOPE of catching the perpetrators or solving any mystery thrust before him.
Ironically, it’s Gadget’s sidekicks who end up being the REAL saviors of every episode. One was the Inspector’s own niece: a precocious and cheerful young girl named Penny. While she loves and looks up to her uncle, Penny is actually a MUCH better detective than he is with far less high-tech gear (and a significant age gap). It’s usually she who ends up TRULY figuring out the case and finding a way to stop Claw and his cronies. Brain, meanwhile, was their talking, bipedal pet dog (don’t question it, I’m not going to). While Penny was cracking the case, this poor mutt spent most of his time making sure that Gadget didn’t get himself killed, with much slapstick buffoonery happening as a result.
While everyone pretty universally agrees that Inspector Gadget, himself, is a complete and total clod, the show and the character turned out to be extremely popular. The series not only sold a boatload of merchandise, but gave way to a Christmas special, two (terrible) live-action films, and even a recent Netflix reboot (which I haven’t seen). He may not have been a truly great gumshoe in the sense of…well…actually being a great gumshoe, but as one of the most wonderfully silly sleuths to ever sweep across the small screen, Inspector Gadget has definitely made his mark. “Go-Go Gadget Legacy!”
Tomorrow, the countdown continues with Number 30!
CLUE: “Your vast corrupt future is draining away as we speak.”
Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action remake verdict: Honestly not that bad. Would watch another season if they make another one.
The good: Fire Nation machinations, shenanigans and backstories.
The bad: Some gawdawful, clunky and needlessly expositional dialogue.
Feels like the first season of a TV show that hasn't ironed out its rough edges.
I don't know if it's a case of the creatives really favoring Fire Nation characters or the fact that they could hire more experienced actors for the Fire Nation roles so they could throw more at them but the material for them just felt better. There's a lot of trauma being explored but the material for the Fire Nation characters has felt less clunky than it has for Katara and Aang.
As for the dialogue... there is this thing where even renowned shows have some pretty dire dialogue but they get away with it because they have some great actors who can hide it better, drown it with dramatic background music, put some sort of action onscreen that pulls more of the viewer's attention, or the words are spoken in some sort of British accent and somehow that's enough to distract the viewer from how much the the dialogue actually sucks.
I didn't look over all the screenwriting credits but I wonder if they were a bunch of different people and they were all told to hammer certain points of exposition in and nobody thought, "Hey, we said/showed this is that episode so we don't need to do that again here."
And there's things where you kind of forgive them for concentrating so much material on Omashu because set design production is so expensive that they have to make use of that as much as possible. The cost also goes into why Momo and Appa feel like props more than characters.
(Gotta say it's a little jarring to watch Ozai scenes but your brain is still processing it as Hiroshi Sato's voice. Also kind of amusing that a guy known for playing an "Appa" is playing Iroh here.)
When projects are rebooted or remade I like to ask why it exists. Is it just a cynical cash-grab? Is it a bunch of people who want to cosplay in a fictional world that they love? Is there a specific storytelling reason why it's being made? Is it a take from a different point of view? I appreciate this remake existing but I don't really see a creative reason for it.
Question stufffsss, does cuphead from the angel blood au ever get derealization whenever he has a vision and if he does how does he cope with it, what if someone jump scares him, what happened when he shot mugman in the angel blood au?? (If he even did😭) how was the labyrinth like for mugman? In the angel blood au??, how bad of a dystopian place is the cyberpunk au, did cuphead in the angel blood au ever see mugman getting shot in a vision and if he did, did he ever do anything to prevent it?, lots of questions sorry lol😭🙏🏾
Your question dumps always bring me so much cussing joy.
Literally.
Ok let’s get these answered!
I had never heard of derealization before and had to look it up. And honestly you’re a cussing genius. I think Cup would absolutely have those moments of derealization going into a vision and coming out. Some visions hit him out of nowhere with no warning, and some he can feel slowly building up on him over time. He notices he starts to feel kinda off with those kinds of visions (usually it takes him a while to realize it) he would absolutely have some of those symptoms. His attention goes everywhere. He starts zoning out, losing focus, and can’t keep track of time that well. Everything seems almost too slow and too fast for him. He can barely keep up with what’s around him. Cup would describe it himself that things start to go hazy.
It’s kinda ironic that Cup would have moments derealization when he’s a cartoon character. In a world that is being observed by readers in an alternate dimension. There will be moments for Cup especially going in an out of a vision that he starts to feel like everything isn’t real. That it’s all a performance, a show, for the readers. He thinks it’s just his mind playing tricks on him but it’s actually true. (Bc reading Inky Mystery the Warners make a show with playing with the 4th wall and interacting with the authors and readers) It’s kinda funny that in Cup’s moments it’s almost as if he’s starting to become zany.
The Warners are absolutely NO HELP to him when they find out about that.
Coming out of a vision for him would be kind of like a stimulation overload. He’s all of a sudden brought back to the real world and it takes his brain a full minute to reboot and catch back up. But for him its a lot easier of an experience coming out of a vision than it is going into one. Usually then he’ll just try to sleep it off.
I don’t know enough about derealization to think of coping mechanisms or anything like that. But I think that if Cup notices that he’s gonna have a vision soon he’ll excuse himself from the room and go to a quiet, safe place and try his best to wait it out. Tho usually it’s Mugman who notices that Cup is kind of, absent. He tries his best to help Cup get to a safe place and make sure he stays grounded going in and out of the vision.
Nothing really special would happen if he were somehow jumpscared. It’s a bit harder to jump scare him too. Sometimes he’ll get a vision about it and avoid it. Sometimes he’ll see the vision but not be able to figure out when it happens and ends up getting scared either way. It depends.
Cuphead got a vision about a week before the event. He couldn’t see much; little flashes of him running, shooting at someone, and then seeing Mugs covered in blood. It really shook him. Usually his visions were about small things. Usually about him. He was debating between telling Mugs or keeping it to himself. Mugs noticed Cup’s stress and asked about it and Cup let it spill that he saw Mugs get killed. They’d be super super careful from then on, trying to avoid it the best they could. Cup would spend HOURS replaying the vision in his head trying to find any kinds of details that could clue what, when, or how it happened. Hell, Cup would try his damnest to trigger more visions so he could see it again.
Later that week however, while Cup was chasing Bendy and Boris he was getting little inklings of déjà vu but ignored it in favor of doing his job. The two of them completely forgot about Cup’s vision until Mugs was shot.
Cuphead didn’t go into a rampage/blackout because he doesn’t have any demon blood. So Cup was in absolute HYSTERICS during that time. He would still go out to hunt for Bendy and Boris for revenge. His distress and sorrow for his brother caused him to constantly flicker between visions. That would be a moment when his derealization symptoms got BAD. His first reaction when he shot Mugs was definitely denial. He thought that he was imagining things. Or that this was a vision of the same event but in better detail. He couldn’t accept the fact that his brother was probably dead and he killed him.
The labyrinth was absolutely AWFUL for both Cup and Mugs. Cup kept having powerful visions that would hit him out of nowhere over and over. Because time is weird and messy in the labyrinth he’d be receiving visions of the past, present, and future without order. Some about him, some about the questers, some visions of memories about people that were in the labyrinth at some point, people who had long since passed. Probably some of the instrument’s memories too. All while also running around through his own trails and memories in the labyrinth. Cup couldn’t catch a break
For Mugman I’d imagine running through the labyrinth he’d feel the remanants and undertones of emotions and feelings tied to the memories and locations found inside the labyrinth. Echos of forgotten pasts. And I believe he’d be able to faintly feel the questers emotions at varying times. Mugman’s ability to feel emotions, I’ve decided, is range based. And because the labyrinth has no order in terms of direction and location (i.e. a door in the hotel will transport you to a bedroom on the other side of town) he’d be constantly feeling the questers in varying degrees. It was an absolute mess for him and so so confusing and disorienting.
Mugs maybe went 2-4 hours inside the labyrinth before he started getting sick. TwT
And for the cyberpunk AU every location from Hell, to the surface both in city and out, to the Upper is a corrupt dystopia in some way or another.
Hell and the Surface being obvious. In the city their violent society full of crime and destruction is pretty strongly controlled by rich, fat cats, and overpowered CEOs.
The Upper is kind of a doozy. It’s less of a straight up dystopia and more of a dystopia disguised as the perfect utopia.
The angel’s advancements in technology, the medical field, and use of plant life in their day to day is almost like a facade. The shared ideas of racism and bigotry against the demons running deep through their society and government making their world a bit darker than you’d think. But its about pretty close to canon.
I hope this answers your questions! Thank you so much!!!!
Note
This might be too many but, for the MacGyver ask game:
4, 7, 15, 16, & 18?
(:
There's no such thing as too many. 😂 It's just a matter of how long it'll take me to write something for all of them. But here goes:
Do you have any favorite fandom media you’d like to recommend? (Fic, edits, art, etc.)
Hooooo boy, am I ever bad at picking a favorite of anything and sticking with my opinion the next time I come across something shiny. Has anybody not read Turkey Day yet? Everybody's surely read it. If anyone hasn't they should immediately run over to AO3 right now.
How did you discover the show?
It was October 2021 and I was suffering Peak Pandemic Loneliness. Friday night I watched a couple episodes of The Americans because one of my writing forums was having a big plotting discussion about it. I love spy shows generally and I really enjoyed The Americans the first time through but it was just NOT the mood I was in right then, it was too dark and too bleak. So at the end of episode 2 Amazon popped up a list of “also recommends” stuff and there was the MacGyver reboot, first thing on the list. I loved OG MacGyver, watched it after school and in the summers as a kid, there are episodes I managed to see enough at a time when you were stuck watching whatever the TV wanted to show you that I could easily recall major plot points and characters like 30ish years later BUT. I hadn’t seen the reboot because I’d seen friends panning it on Facebook when it came out. (I’m sure I’ve posted Rosie’s Theory of Why Middle Aged White Guys Hated MacGyver 2016 before. But I didn’t realize it at the time.) So I thought to myself, well I’m already in a bad mood and bored, why not watch something crappy that I’ll probably hate? and started up 1x01.
Obviously that did NOT go as anticipated because 1x01 is really a pretty awesome pilot episode and I enjoyed it enough to immediately start up episode 2, and by the end of episode 2 I was in love with the whole thing. Like, obsessively in love with it in a way I rarely get. I stayed up until 2am watching the first 5 eps in a row.
Have you learned any Mac Hacks?
Oh definitely, although I’ll admit my favorite (and most useful) Mac Hack of all time is from MacGyver 1985: the time OG Mac magnetized an iron pole by hitting it in the same way over and over, a trick that can also be used to magnetize a screwdriver. A few months ago I accidentally locked a door at the youth group where I volunteer. No one had a key and we really needed to get back into the room, and I got it open by user-testing an idea I’d come up with for a fanfic.
What’s your favorite cold open?
Definitely 1x12, the truth serum cold open. The 1x02 North Korea escape is also pretty high on my list of favorites.
If you could wish an episode tag/missing scene fic into existence, which episode would you choose?
Jack taking Mac to Texas to meet his family. We got a family/backstory episode for Riley, Bozer, even Desi, but we have to headcanon basically everything about Jack’s family.
List of Gundam’s I’ve watched so far, least favorite to favorite (warning, may be controversial? idk)
Stardust Memory - I’m going to be honest, I watched this one but did not super follow it.  Maybe I should try again, it just didn’t feel that interesting to me for some reason.  Like it was a short series, and I didn’t get attached enough to the characters in that short time, and it is only really setting up stuff from Zeta Gundam that I already knew about so I didn’t particularly care about it. idk
ZZ Gundam - I’m currently halfway through this one, and it is growing on me, but the front half is silly in a not fun way for me.  Feels aimed at a markedly younger audience then Zeta, which maybe it was but its losing me for that.  Also the lack of a dub means I can’t really work on Gunpla/play videogames while watching which makes it less engaging for my ADHD.  I think the reuse of Zeta suits with entirely new characters feels a bit like a cheap reboot.  My understanding is that like, Char and a lot of the other cast was meant to return but because Char’s Counterattack got approval all of the characters/actors got saved for that project, so we ended up with a new cast for ZZ, but I’m just not feeling them/their stories feel like childlike rehashes of previous stuff largely. Mobile Suit Gundam - The original gundam feels like the baseline.  I enjoyed it, I know conceptually it had more going on then just a children’s show about robots fighting, but it didn’t really hook me properly.  I ended up caring about its cast more when watching other stuff with them in it then when I watched MSG.  Wasn’t bad by any means, but just the absolute neutral of mecha experiences imo. 8th MS Team - I liked it.  Felt decidedly more adult then the mainline series, wasn’t my favorite cast of characters but it was fun and interesting at the same time.
Zeta Gundam - I found it more compelling then MSG on the individual character basis, but I think its overall message stumbled in a few places and dove headfirst into misogyny in others.  Despite that and some repetitive storylines with Cybernewtypes, I found I ended up liking the cast of Zeta a whole lot, and I definitely thought the look of the suits in Zeta were an improvement over the originals.  Zeta itself was not my favorite, but the MK II, Hyaku Shiki, and many of the other suits were super cool.
Gundam The Origin - Beautifully animated, wonderfully fleshes out the characters in a way that made them much more compelling to me then MSG did on its own.
Iron Blooded Orphans - Second series I watched, before any UC stuff.  It was great, the mechs were cool, the story was compelling and at the surface scratched a lot of itches I look for in sci-fi in general, in many ways more so then any other Gundam series.  The only reason it isn’t higher up is that the other series just connected with me more in ways I didn’t expect.
War in the Pocket - Loved it, a smaller, microscopic view of war and its horrors, while also having some cool robot action.  I loved the Alex, I def want its MG.
00 Gundam - It was the first gundam series I watched, and got me back into mecha after not really watching much anime at all since highschool.  The suits are cool, the characters and story arc compelling.  I do need to do a rewatch though, as my opinion of it may be more about how cool it was after not watching anything like it in awhile and how much was its actual quality, but I do think it was pretty great.
Gundam Thunderbolt - The perfect combination of flashy animation, compelling characters, and cool suits.  Full Armor Gundam is my favorite UC suit so far. Honorable Mention: Witch from Mercury I’m not even done with whats out yet, and half of it hasn’t been released, but I’m loving it so far.  The designs are amazing, the characters compelling, but there isn’t a ton I could say about it that I haven’t said about other series already.
