🕰Big Ben + Westminster: I didn't go inside Big Ben, but Westminster is worth visiting. Tickets can be booked every Saturday, and there will be a voice guide (Chinese version). It is a magnificent building. You can also see where their members of parliament hold daily meetings. It is the place where the popular video "ORDER!" took place. It is very interesting. 🎡London Eye: When I went there, it happened to be a rare sunny day, so I bought a ticket to go up. The weather was good and the scenery below was also very beautiful. A cable car can accommodate many people. It is still scary at high places, especially for people who are afraid of heights.

Northern Ireland votes to extend post-Brexit trade arrangements
Northern Ireland’s Stormont Assembly has voted in favour of retaining the special trade arrangements for Brexit for another four years.
This means Northern Ireland will retain some EU trade laws as a means of maintaining an invisible border on the island of Ireland, despite continued opposition in some unionist circles.
The 42 to 35 vote reflected long-standing divisions over Brexit, with Unionist Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) voting against it, while Nationalists and the non-sectarian Alliance Party supported it.
The decision came after hours of debate, which Social Democratic Labour Party (SDLP) MLA Sinéad McLaughlin as “triggering,” with Brexit points reiterated from the Unionist benches.
Consideration was given to the continued application of Articles 5-10 of the Windsor Framework, which deal with customs, movement of goods, VAT and excise duty, the single electricity market and state aid.
Emma Little-Pengelly, Deputy First Minister, said the DUP would “continue to fight for the full restoration of Northern Ireland’s place within the UK,” including the removal of the application of EU law and any barriers it creates to the UK’s internal market. “We must strive for something better,” she told the meeting.
Naomi Long, the Alliance Party’s justice minister, said it would not help anyone if Brexit was a “permanent open wound” and she would vote to keep the arrangements in place so the North could “move forward.”
Matthew O’Toole, SDLP leader at Stormont, said the protocol was flawed but urged party members to look forward. “There needs to be a concerted effort to improve the situation,” he added.
That prompted Steve Aiken of the Ulster Unionist Party to say the “strongest message” to Brussels and London was to unite behind a vote against the continuation of the Windsor framework.
“Illusion of democracy”
Tuesday’s vote was the first test for the compromise deal struck by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in February 2023.
Jonathan Buckley of the DUP called the vote an “illusion of democracy” as London will have the final say on which laws will prevail under trade agreements.
The framework was introduced after long opposition from the DUP and other parties over checks on farm-fresh products, from sausages to cheese, imported into the region from the rest of the UK.
Under the Windsor Framework, goods from Britain destined for storage in Northern Ireland pass through a “green lane,” while a separate “red lane” is provided for goods destined to cross the border into the Republic and therefore the EU.
Import bans on seed potatoes and 11 native British trees have also been lifted, as well as EU rules on the movement of pets from Northern Ireland to the UK.

Opinion: Brazil needs to be supported in its sustainability journey
Tumblr media
A Brazilian agriculture powerhouse is in all our best interests, despite what the Irish farm lobby will tell you.
As Ireland scrambles to find ways to reduce our carbon emissions and new methods to increase sequestration, the world’s best carbon sinks remain desperately under threat.
At this point, it’s fair to ask - will the legacy of Ireland’s farm lobby’s influence on national and European policy be one of serving personal financial interest at all times or one of serving the best for humankind?
Farm leaders constantly tell us we are food production goliaths, creating enough to feed over 50m people, but at what cost?

Chiming in because the post above Pangur's decided to have a stab at theory crafting about my country's posting habits: No, I as an Englishman do not just 'as a force of habit' (as one other poster offered) leave off the country destination on my address when ordering things online from another country, because that would be incorrect, and i would like to make things easier on the kind folks who are sending me things across one body of water or another by not asking them to be my editor in chief while i half-ass my own address. The format is this: House Number/House Name & Street Name Local Area Name/Village/Town/whatever Nearest City County name (full or slightly appended), Postcode ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM it's not difficult to fill out, it narrows down logically, it helps the seller out because they also have to print the fucking thing out to slap it onto the parcel to get it to survive customs anyway, and no if I was sending fifty letters thither and yon across the british isles every other day of the week, i would STILL remember to put England and United Kingdom BOTH on international orders because it's literally incorrect to do otherwise.
one thing I’ve noticed while running an online shop is that Americans never include their country when writing their address.
I don’t mean when filling in online forms, bc that’s obviously a required element. but when emailing me for address changes for orders, they never include a country in the updated address. but I always know the country is the United States of America because literally nobody else around the world would do that.

"The Committee said on Tuesday that its newly-published report is the first output from a series of meetings exploring what a united Ireland would mean and examines the current economic relationship between the jurisdictions on the island and the potential of the all-island economy.
The report, the Committee said, goes on to examine the cost of a united Ireland and makes the case for planning and preparation for a united Ireland to begin."

Republican presidents are more overtly evil and blatant in the way they screw over their citizens. While I personally would prefer a Democrat (for DEI/climate stance/etc), recall that their words are hollow and each victory they “win” can and will be recalled.
There is no vested interest in either party improving the conditions of women, racial minorities, or the working class, and in fact there are monetary incentives to maintain these structures. When you dehumanize a group of people, you can profit off of them. When women are “less” than men, you can pay them less, even if there’s a female president. When black Americans are “less” than white Americans, you can incarcerate them en masse to maintain the economic structure of (psuedo)slavery to make great profit, even when there’s a black president.
Some Americans rightly recognized the humanitarian crisis at the Mexican border, slandering Trump in 2016-2019 for “kids in cages,” even though the Obama administration put those cages there, but Trump increased the militarization and scope. Some Americans rightly criticize Trump today for the executive orders withdrawing from the Paris agreement, deregulating industries with climate policy, and laying plans to maximize oil and gas industries. However, the Biden admin’s drilling ban mostly covered areas unable to be drilled in or in low value to drill companies, and Harris and Trump famously debated which of them would out-frack the other.
Libs get on here to mourn Jimmy Carter, our bleeding heart Democratic president, although he supported suppressive military regimes in Zaire, Guatemala, and Afghanistan, among other things.
The Democrats ARE marginally better for Americans, but not the world, and they’re certainly not our best option. Truly, we need to be able to create and maintain a third party.
Remember that the US is an empire, and members of our multibillion dollar parties will never have your working class interest in mind. When I dream of liberation for all women, I imagine Sudanese women free from slavery, Filipino and Indonesian women free from horrific working conditions, Palestinian women who do not have to endure their periods in tents, Afghani & Iranian women free to dress and act as they please. The US military-industrial complex has a hand in maintaining the crushing world order of the global south & the Middle East, and economically benefit from those oppressions.
Feminists are correct to criticize those who would eagerly vote in a fascist and his Nazi-saluting lapdog, but the fight does not end at electing a lesser evil.

Why Ireland's economy surpassed the UK's economy?
Ireland’s Economic Growth: Surpassing the UK’s and Tackling Challenges Head-On In recent years, Ireland has emerged as an economic powerhouse, outstripping its neighboring counterpart, the United Kingdom, in terms of GDP and GNI per capita. LinkedIn to pay fine of 310 million euros
Europe’s top privacy regulator said on Thursday it has imposed a 310 million euro ($335 million) fine on Microsoft’s professional network LinkedIn for its practice of targeted advertising.
Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) is the European Union’s top privacy regulator for most major US Internet companies because of the location of their EU operations in the country. DPC Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle said in a statement:
The processing of personal data without an appropriate legal basis is a clear and serious violation of a data subjects’ fundamental right to data protection.
Last year, Microsoft said it expected to pay a fine of about $425 million over a potential penalty from the Irish regulator for its LinkedIn unit.
LinkedIn said in a statement:
While we believe we have been in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we are working to ensure our ad practices meet this decision by the IDPC’s deadline.
The Irish Data Protection Commission has launched an investigation into LinkedIn’s data handling practices following a complaint to the French data regulator. LinkedIn, like many other major tech companies, is headquartered in Ireland, meaning local regulators are tasked with overseeing compliance with EU rules.
