Interciaspec and Intercingender
( ID 1: A flag with five horizontal stripes, in the following colors: dark gray, turquoise, yellow, bubblegum pink and purple. In the center, there's a green circle outline with a yellow border around it. End ID. )
( ID 2: A flag with seven horizontal stripes, the middle stripe being thicker, in the following colors: yellow, teal, navy blue, very dark blue, purple, bubblegum pink and yellow. In the center, there's a green circle outline with a very dark blue border around it. End ID. )
Terms and flags for those who are Intersex and Ciaspec / Cingender, and / or are Ciaspec / Cingender in an Intergender ( or Ipsogender ) way / in a way which is caused by or inherently tied to being Intersex.
( If you don't want to use the combination terms you can just call them Intersex Ciaspec / Intersex Cingender. )
Combining the Intersex flag by Morgan Carpenter with the Ciaspec and Cingender flags by @ryanyflags. I thought the layout of those flags and the colors were incredibly pretty, so I tried to maintain that while still making them distinctly a combination / Intersex-focused.
The green in the circle comes from this Cis flag, which the Ciaspec / Cingender flags are based on.
Obviously these are intersex-exclusive but perisex folk are free to reblog or archive !! Free for anyone to use anywhere.

New intergender flag design
Tumblr media
Intergender: an intersex person whose gender feels connected, linked, influenced, or a result of being intersex. This term is used as a descriptor of one's gender (e.g. an intergender trans woman) similar to how neurogender is a descriptor. Intergender is also used as a gender in of itself (e.g. hir gender is intergender). This is a well-established term in the intersex community.
I'm personally a minimalist when it comes to queer flag design. This design takes the Carpenter intersex flag and inverts the colours, to reflect how intergender is a complimentary term to intersex.
I'm also influenced by interpunked's intergender flag design, which I think had some good ideas but is too busy for my personal taste.
The colour fits nicely with how the ipsogender flag already does this (it replaces the ring with the Earth symbol). It also allows us to take flags with a design of intersex flag + <icon of other thing> and turn them into intergender flag + <icon of other thing>, like so:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[intersex + autistic, intersex + disabled, intersex + plural, followed by intergender + autistic, intergender + disabeld, intergender + plural]
I've put up an SVG version of this new intergender flag design on Wikimedia Commons here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Intergender_Flag.svg - it's public domain and free to use! <3

i was wondering if you could break down the other problematic example phrases, particularly the "i wish i was intersex" one?
yeah, absolutely. I'll try my best, but if it's still not clear feel free to ask more specific questions. I'll start with the easier and more obvious one and then get into the mess of "I wish I was intersex"
“intersex people are naturally nonbinary, so a nonbinary intersex person is cis”
this is both bioessentialism and a massive simplification of what it means to be intersex. being intersex can play a massive role in the way someone understands their gender identity, which is why there are gender labels like intergender and ipsogender. as a multigender person, it's quite complicated for me, personally
that being said. the idea that an intersex person has a naturally nonbinary body is just another expression of the idea that gender and sex are inseparable and natural categories. it also plays into the idea that intersex people all have "androgynous" bodies when that is not at all the case. many intersex people will have bodies that are indistinguishable from one of the binary sexes, or that can pass as dyadic in many situations
"I wish I was intersex"
people are always asking me about this one when I complain about it. but. like. once again it is simplifying the intersex experience and it is playing off of a heavily romanticised version of an intersex body. when people say they wish they were intersex, they have a clear vision in their heads of what "intersex" looks like. and, more often than not, that is going to be a very fetishised version of what we look like and what our experiences are
do you wish you were intersex or do you wish you had ambiguous genitals? do you wish you were intersex or do you wish you had androgynous features? do you wish you were intersex or do you wish you had a body that was confusing to cishet people?
you're allowed to fantasise about individual and specific components of what you IMAGINE the intersex experience to be, but you do not need to bring intersex people into it. because the chances are that you don't actually wish you were intersex. being intersex is a lot more complicated than that, and the same things you fantasise about can be the source of a lot of trauma for the intersex community
while dyadic people fantasise about our genitals, our hormones, and our bodies, we are fighting against traumatic medical intervention. many of us have been bullied, harassed, and objectified our entire lives for being intersex. all I'm asking is that you a) engage with the intersex community, b) care about intersex issues, and c) stop seeing intersex people as nothing more than objects to be fantasised about
I hope that helps

hi! wanted to thank you for ur last post, abt the "afab transfem" stuff thats been kind of everywhere in the intsersex tags. id been having kind of mixed feelings on the whole thing and you put into words some of what i was thinking and it was nice to be able to read that and properly put some words to those mixed feelings ahah
anyways you mentioned ipsogender and intergender. i knew of intergender but not of ipsogender, and im sure theres a lot of other intersex exclusive terms out there, do you know if theres a list or anything to find more of them? id really appreciate it, but if you cant help thats okay, too! tysm for reading i hope you're doing well
glad my last post resonated with you 💜
i wish i did have a list to link to, but honestly I'm having a hard time finding a comprehensive list of intersex terminology that's been coined. i think what also makes it hard is I think a lot of it feels context specific--the language and identities that intersex advocacy orgs use is different then what tumblr uses is different then what academics use, and it feels hard to find all of that in one place. and like ipsogender and intergender used to be talked about a lot more on tumblr around 5 years ago, but they aren't as popular now. i only can read two languages as well, so my knowledge is very limited in terms of intersex terminology in other languages outside of English or French, so that's also very incomplete.
if any intersex mutuals do have resources please link them on, but i honestly can't think of any intersex specific terminology guides where there's a lot of stuff collected in one space!

astrological orientations anon. sorry if those sounded hyperspecific. neptunine means allusive to the planet neptune, uranine alludes to the uranus planet, and ceresian the dwarf planet, which is associated with virgo.
basically, they mimic genders (ceresian is seen as associated with woman-aligned energies, neptune man-aligned energy, and uranus is the "nonconformist" energy if that makes sense, but they remove the gender aspect and purely associate with astral planets directly instead)
they would be behavioral/'karmic' gender markers [since marsian/sun and venusian/moon are typically and traditionally associated with (fe)maleness and mercury/earth with intergender/ipsogender].
I requested astrological celestialgenders for @/qerberus but if pix declines you can make flags for the genders as well.
ooo ok :o! the orientation terms have been queued!

Adding on: when including intersex people it's appreciated if you include gender modalities for intersex people. (Gender modality: description of how gender relates to AGAB; gender identity is what your gender is. So trans and cis are modalities, man and woman are identities.)
Ipsogender: an intersex person who identifies with assigned gender. This often involves medical intervention to affirm this gender, and some of it may have been done coercively.
Ultergender: an intersex person who identifies with a gender that isn't what they were assigned at birth. Trans-intersex also gets used for this.
Then for gender identities there's a bunch of intersex-specific ones like neutroix but the one I see most often is intergender, meaning that one's gender is affected by being intersex.
hey guys reminder that there are more gender identities than just cis and trans . if you're making a poll that depends on how you identify gender wise include at the absolute bare minimum intersex and nonbinary people . not everyone is cis or trans .

i reblog xlx and x4x terms. this blog is unaligned on discourse.
the key for the shortenings i use is under the cut. it's a collection of as many as i could find (as well as some i made up myself), with no repeats. it's also not just genders either despite the blog name.

Intersex folks ONLY: how do you relate your gender to your AGAB?
If you're not intersex please don't vote, it makes it hard for us to get an accurate set of results!!!
I'm pulling the terms from intersexfairy's Intersex Glossary <3 "Gender modality" means how you relate to your AGAB (e.g. cis, trans) and is not the same as gender identity (e.g. woman, man, intergender, non-binary)

Picking only one was tricky for me because the medical trauma and the gender stuff have been so deeply linked for me.
I first wondered if I was intersex when I was a teenager going through a hyperandrogen puberty and my mom would every so often drop some comment like "I wonder if you have a Y chromosome" in reference to how hairy and masculine I was developing. 🙃
But I didn't really seriously consider it until my mid-20s once I had access to therapy for the first time in my life, and started working through the many traumas I had from my childhood and my confusion about my gender.
At first in therapy the issues of medical trauma and of figuring out my gender were treated as though they were parallel issues but the more we explored them the more evident it was they were linked. When I went through hyperandrogen puberty it felt normal and appropriate, and everything my mom and doctors did to force my body into a female presentation was both traumatic and a source of gender dysphoria.
My therapist was definitely used to perisex patients, and identifying that I had gender dysphoria proceeded to encourage me to experiment with transitioning to masc. I don't regret the experimenting, it was useful, but it would have helped me a great deal had my therapist been able to anticipate more options than "cis" and "trans".
Once I figured out I wasn't a trans man, I tried on a bunch of non-binary labels, but they were all for perisex people and I found them all lacking. I felt like an impostor in nonbinary circles because my nonbinaryness was just so different than every enby I met.
Figuring out I was intersex connected all the dots. It allowed me to figure out the gender stuff and the medical trauma stuff. Discovering the term intergender was a big "aha" moment. And learning the term ipsogender was just such an "it me" moment that made everything click into place for me for why "trans" and "cis" didn't work for me.
Poll on motivation for intersex questioning
Fellow intersex people who went through a phase of questioning if you're intersex, I'm curious what was your primary motivation? I'd ask you to select all that apply but tumblr polls only let you pick one, so pick the one that most applies.
If you are currently questioning if you're intersex I have a poll for you here.
Clarification: this is a poll about the label intersex. So if you were told you had AIS from a young age, but it took you a while to realize it was intersex and you were intersex that counts as questioning.
For people who are currently questioning please vote in the poll that's specifically for you <3

Proposing/requesting some new intersex terminology
In my talking and thinking about intersex and intersex studies, I've found a desire to put names some of the concepts and groups of people that are out there. Here's what I've come up with, and would like feedback. 💛
Alternate language for medical/identity models
Intermedicalist: referring to a person or ideas which support the pathologization of intersex. Alternate language for what Costello (2016) refers to as the medical/disorder model of intersex. Intended as a parallel with transmedicalist.
Interliberationist: an intersex person who supports intersex liberation, in contrast to intermedicalism. Alternate language for what Costello (2016) refers to the identity framework of intersex; the view of intersex as a social identity, and intersex people in need of liberation from pathologization and presumptions about sex/gender norms.
Language for how intersex people relate to gender
Extergender. An intersex person who is not intergender, i.e. their gender does not feel affected by being intersex.
Language for how intersex people do or do not relate to queerness
Interqueer: an intersex person who sees their intersexness as being queer 🌈
Ipsoqueer: an intersex person whose queerness comes solely from being intersex; they are heterosexual, cis/ipsogender, etc. A subtype of interqueer.
Ulterqueer: an intersex person who understands their intersexness as queer and is also queer in other ways (sexual orientation, gender identity, etc). A subtype of interqueer.
Interseparate: an intersex person who rejects the idea that being intersex makes them queer. Opposite of interqueer.
Interconforming an intersex person who disidentifies with queerness on all axes (they are hetero, cis/ipsogender, etc). A subtype of interseparate.
Internormative: an intersex person who rejects that being intersex makes them queer, but they are queer in other ways. A subtype of interseparate. Chosen as parallel to homonormativity and transnormativity.
In terms of feedback: these are all concepts I want names for, but other than intermedicalist & interliberationist I feel pretty tentative/uncertain about what I've come up with. If you have ideas for improvements please let me know! 🤗
I'm a little worried that ipsoqueer and ulterqueer would lead to confusion with ipsogender and ultergender but also couldn't think of anything better!
EDITS: - 2023-11-27: changed "interstraight" to "interseparate", TY to anon who suggested the change. 🏳️‍⚧️

are there any other intersex-exclusive terms/labels multigender people should avoid? aside from anything with "inter[sex]" in the name obv
this can be a little complicated, because different intersex people will have different opinions about this stuff. there are three genders (that I know of) that were coined solely for intersex people:
intergender
ipsogender
amalgagender
definitely avoid those. they’re not for you. now. some intersex people (including myself) have complex feelings about “androgyne” and similar. the historical context of that gender identity:
implies that nonbinary and intersex are the same thing (not true)
doesn’t take into account that “androgynous” used to be a slur used against intersex people
Im not the boss of identity or gender or whatever, but I would be careful about your use of androgyne
I also don’t speak for all intersex people, so there may be other terms that people aren’t okay with or that have their roots in intersexism in a way I’m not aware of
anyway. hope this helped

Idea: ultervestic/ipsovestic. Based on transvestic/panvestic and ultersex/ipsosex/ultergender/ipsogender concepts. I guess intervestic as the vestic counterpart of intergender would be a cool analogy, what do you think?
Great idea!!! Queued

hi, are you still taking pride flag requests?? if so, do you mind adding xirl, gynesexual, gyneromantic, skoliosexual, androsexual, androromantic, and biromantic? and any others that go along with these :) thank you :)
Howdy, I sure am! I've gone and added those, I'm so sorry I don't have a proper preview image for it, I haven't had the time to make one. It has been tested and works in game though!
You can find them in Requests part 2, since I got a request on twitter that got the first file to 100 swatches fdsjklsdfkjl Part 2 starts with Duaric!
[SFS] | [MF]
[Original flags post]
Also, skoliosexual's flag is in the original flags! It's listed under it's newer name, ceterosexual. If there was a specific flag you were looking for, I didn't see it in my search, and feel free to request it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And to the anon who forever ago requested a pastel bisexual flag, I was originally going to do a full set of them but didn't know what ones I would want to do, so it's here now sdfkjldfs.
All flags in the Requests files as of posting:
Tumblr media
This round of requests starts from Aliquaroace and ends at Xoy. Also just to have everything in one place, here's the requests I got from Twitter:
