thank you!

being intersex is quite possibly the most isolating thing i’ve ever experienced. all my life, i felt alone. that no one in the world knew what was wrong with me. that i was a weird, abnormal freak.
i felt horrible. and so, i made sure that i would make people like me feel seen
every day, i see people sharing the terms i created, talking about how relatable they are. when i first saw someone talking about how seen they felt (i love you smilepilled!!!!) my heart was a damn opera, it was singing so much!
while things are pretty bad right now, i’m grateful to have provided a little bit of comfort to those who need it
with that being said…
i love you “broken women”
i love you “failed men”
i love you “deformed weirdos”
i love you “DSD males”
i love you “DSD females”
i love you “irl futa(nari)s”
i love you hermaphrodites (with attitude!)
i love you diseased freaks

Ouroboros Intersex ( or Uroboros Intersex )
( ID 1: A yellow flag with a purple Ouroboros in the center. The Ouroboros is a snake eating its own tail, forming a circle. /End ID. )
( ID 2: A purple flag with a yellow Ouroboros in the center. The Ouroboros is a snake eating its own tail, forming a circle. /End ID. )
The Intersex flag by Morgan Carpenter, but with an Ouroboros / Uroboros in place of the circle. The second flag uses the "reversed" color scheme usually associated with the Ipsogender flag!
Made as a request and can be used by any Intersex person for any reason! ( Fun or serious. ) Perisex people do not be weird, ty.

I've put the finishing touches to my new powerchair StarBug2 the Freedomchair DE08L. I've added new stickers, some made by me, some made by friends, others off redbubble. I used to volunteer as a bat rescuer, and I was holding a space on one fender for this adorable little pride batty. Plus a roundel on the other fender. Thank you again to EVERYONE who shared and donated to the fundraiser to get me mobile again and give me my freedom back. I love you all <3 Now it's on to new adventures with StarBug2. On Saturday it's my birthday, so myself and my partner are going to a firehouse ghostbusters event to fundraise for Great Ormond Street Hospital - to whom he owes his life. He'll be doing his ghostbusters cosplay and StarBug2 will have its first outing as an Ecto-1 car cosplay. Fortunately the boards I made for StarBug1 will fit the new one as well. Then later in July, there'll be a Good Omens flaming Bentley cosplay for it as well for The Ineffable Con 5.

Intersex folks ONLY: how do you relate your gender to your AGAB?
If you're not intersex please don't vote, it makes it hard for us to get an accurate set of results!!!
I'm pulling the terms from intersexfairy's Intersex Glossary <3 "Gender modality" means how you relate to your AGAB (e.g. cis, trans) and is not the same as gender identity (e.g. woman, man, intergender, non-binary)

Ipsofeminine + Ipsomasculine Flags
"id: two 6 striped flags with two large middle stripes with a thin white stripe between them. the two top and bottom stripes are colored in a mirror pattern. the stripes closest to the middle on the left flag are colored light orange and the outer stripes are colored pink. the right flag is colored light indigo and blue respectively. end id
Ipsofem + Ipsomasc have been coined by intersexfairy and are defined as;
“A gender modality for Ipsogender people who are of a feminine gender identity or transitioning femininely. May be abbreviated as 'ipsofem.’” and “A gender modality for Ipsogender people who are of a masculine gender identity or transitioning masculinely. May be abbreviated as ‘ipsomasc.’”
The flags have been created by myself."

I think the term ipsogender was coined for this purpose in order to describe intersex people who identify with a gender that matches the sex they were coercively assigned as. Ipsogender explains this experience very well without putting us in proximity to perisex cisgender people.
Other intersex people, of course, are free to identify as cis if they want to if they find that language useful! Although, I wonder how many intersex people use "cis" because they aren't aware that ipsogender exists?
I don't think @thevelveteenvamp is saying that the individual intersex person can't or shouldn't describe themself as cisgender if that's how they want to refer to themself. I think he's saying that we need to stop blanket-referring to ipsogender intersex people as cis. /gen
I need people referring to intersex people whose outward sex characteristic “match” binary sex to stop calling that cisgender. I need people to stop calling intersex people whose external sex characteristics that match whatever some doctor forced onto their sex marker at birth to stop calling that cisgender. THAT is not cisgender. Intersex cannot be cisgender, it can identify with a binary gender but it cannot simply be cisgender because by being intersex one is definitionally and medically, and yes physically not cisgender. I’m an intersex man, I am not cisgender; I’m still a man, but an intersex one not a cisgender one. Stop quantifying how much a gender is valid by tacking “cisgender” on it because you don’t fucking understand what being intersex means. And especially if you’re trans saying this, STOP SPEAKING FOR US AND LISTEN.
#⚜. rb#/genuine#/info#intersex#intersex rights#ipsogender#i just woke up- sorry if my wording is weird#update: that's not what he was saying and he doubled down hard#twisting and weaponizing my words to dismiss other intersex people identifying in ways they're comfortable is not a good look#keeping this up though because i think more people should know about ipsogender#i'm sorry for assuming good faith where it wasn't warranted#i genuinely had to step away because i was so upset

Caedulter and Caedipso
( Image 1 ID: A five striped flag, the colors going as follows from top to bottom, purple, yellow, white, yellow, purple. From the left side, there are blocks on each stripe incrementally increasing in length and becoming lighter gray prior to the center stripe, then decreasing in length and becoming darker gray after the center stripe. End ID. )
( Image 2 ID: A mostly purple flag with a yellow circle with a plus inside of it. There are also blocks on the left side of the flag, incrementally increasing in length and becoming lighter gray prior to the circle, and then decreasing in length and becoming darker gray after the circle. End ID. )
Caedulter: An intersex individual who at one point, was Transgender, but due to trauma ( from their own Intersex experiences, Intersexism within Trans- spaces*, etc. ) is now Ultergender. May also be spelled Caedoulter.
Caedipso: An intersex individual who at one point, was Cisgender, but due to trauma ( from their own Intersex experiences, Intersexism from Perisex Cisgender individuals, etc. ) is now Ipsogender. May also be spelled Caedoipso.
Any other Intersex people may use these if you feel like you connect with them! Similar to other Caed- / Caedo- terms, you do not need to be specific or open about your trauma at all.
These are terms that are roughly based on the other existing Caed- / Caedo- terms but with slightly modified language. They are based off of my personal experiences ( Caedulter) and one of my friend's ( Caedipso ) so please be respectful.
( Perisex people do not be weird, these aren't for you. )
*if you have an issue with the wording here I encourage you to read this addition before jumping to harassing me or others.

Its kind of ridiculous how difficult it is to find critical intersex literature if you don't know where to look.
That said, here are frequently cited things I've found. For the one's that are behind paywalls, I have a Google Drive folder set up to hold them for access. The only things I leave behind a paywall are books by individual authors. They are not organized at all, I'm sorry.
Intersex Variations Glossary by InterACT
Narrative Symposium: Intersex—Narrative Inquiry in Bioethics (NIB) Volume 5, Number 2, Summer 2015.— Trigger warning for intersex genital mutilation (IGM), sexual assault, and medical trauma—it's honestly a lot but incredibly important. (Drive)
A human rights investigation into the medical "normalization" of intersex people - A report of a public hearing by the Human Rights Commission of the City & County of San Francisco
Surgical Progress Is Not the Answer to Intersexuality - Cheryl Chase. - TW for IGM and images of genitalia (Drive)
The Intersex Roadshow, a blog of Dr. Cary Gabriel Costello - Costello is an intersex trans man and tries to bridge the gap between trans and intersex issues
Beyond Binary Sex and Gender Ideology - Cary Grabriel Costello - Chapter 12 of The Oxford Handbook of the Sociology of Body and Embodiment (Drive)
Transgender and intersex: theoretical, practical, and artistic perspectives (book/textbook) (Drive)
Intersex: Stories and Statistics from Australia (Book) (Open Access)
Fixing sex: intersex, medical authority, and lived experience (Book)
The harms of medicalisation: intersex, loneliness and abandonment (Open Access Article)
Intersex: cultural and social perspectives (Open Access Article)
Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) - Technical Note on the Human Rights of Intersex People. Basically, if you want an easy way to say that doctors are going against human rights by performing IGM.
An experimental philosophical bioethical study of how human rights are applied to clitorectomy on infants identified as female and as intersex (Open Access Article) - People were more likely to support the same surgery on infants labeled as intersex than they were on infants labeled as female.
Caught in the Gender Binary Blind Spot: Intersex Erasure in Cisgender Rhetoric by Hida Viloria - About how cisgender often doesn't accurately express the experiences intersex people have. Costello, mentioned earlier with Intersex Roadshow, coined Ipsogender for this reason.
Introduction for Intersex Activism - A guide for allies
Sex, Science, and Society: Reckonings and Responsibilities for Biologists (Open Access Article)
Contesting Intersex: The Dubious Diagnosis by Georgiann Davis - TW for medical trauma
Spectacles and Scholarship: Caster Semenya, Intersex Studies, and the Problem of Race in Feminist Theory by Zine Magubane (Drive)
Owning Endosex Privilege and Supporting the Intersex Community: WPATH, Intersex Genital Mutilation (IGM), and Sex Variant Bodies by Margo Schulter
The Spectrum of Sex by Hida Viloria and Dr. Maria Nieto
A long way to go for LGBTI equality from the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights - Before the UK left the EU
If anyone wants to add, feel free! This was the non-medicalized stuff I had saved in Zotero, and definitely not all that's out there.

Adding on: when including intersex people it's appreciated if you include gender modalities for intersex people. (Gender modality: description of how gender relates to AGAB; gender identity is what your gender is. So trans and cis are modalities, man and woman are identities.)
Ipsogender: an intersex person who identifies with assigned gender. This often involves medical intervention to affirm this gender, and some of it may have been done coercively.
Ultergender: an intersex person who identifies with a gender that isn't what they were assigned at birth. Trans-intersex also gets used for this.
Then for gender identities there's a bunch of intersex-specific ones like neutroix but the one I see most often is intergender, meaning that one's gender is affected by being intersex.
hey guys reminder that there are more gender identities than just cis and trans . if you're making a poll that depends on how you identify gender wise include at the absolute bare minimum intersex and nonbinary people . not everyone is cis or trans .

New intergender flag design
Intergender: an intersex person whose gender feels connected, linked, influenced, or a result of being intersex. This term is used as a descriptor of one's gender (e.g. an intergender trans woman) similar to how neurogender is a descriptor. Intergender is also used as a gender in of itself (e.g. hir gender is intergender). This is a well-established term in the intersex community.
I'm personally a minimalist when it comes to queer flag design. This design takes the Carpenter intersex flag and inverts the colours, to reflect how intergender is a complimentary term to intersex.
I'm also influenced by interpunked's intergender flag design, which I think had some good ideas but is too busy for my personal taste.
The colour fits nicely with how the ipsogender flag already does this (it replaces the ring with the Earth symbol). It also allows us to take flags with a design of intersex flag + <icon of other thing> and turn them into intergender flag + <icon of other thing>, like so:
[intersex + autistic, intersex + disabled, intersex + plural, followed by intergender + autistic, intergender + disabeld, intergender + plural]
I've put up an SVG version of this new intergender flag design on Wikimedia Commons here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Intergender_Flag.svg - it's public domain and free to use! <3

If you're gatekeeping people from well known identity terms because "there are more accurate terms for you," and those "more accurate" terms are obscure and unknown, I want to ask you this:
Are you going to actually put in the work to popularize those terms?
No, really. Are you? Are you going to tell people in real life about these terms? Are you going to use them in conversation? Are you going to post about them? Are you going to give it your all to make sure that people actually know these words and what they mean?
Because if you're not, you're not looking out for people by offering them "more accurate" terms. You're not even just gatekeeping. You're actively stripping them of the ability to easily talk about their experiences, because you'd prefer to force people with certain experiences to strictly use highly invisible labels, rather than make space for them in broader and more well known communities.
Not to mention the fact that a lot of people who gatekeep more common labels are opposed to microlabels as well, leaving literally no options left. Some of you just don't want "weird queers" to exist and it's not subtle.
"You can't be a nonbinary lesbian, you have to call yourself trixic."
How many people know what trixic means? Many nonbinary people don't know this term, let alone broader society. It's also worth noting that nonbinary lesbians have existed for a very long time, even before the specific word "nonbinary" was used to express this.
"You can't describe your attraction to women as 'lesbian' if you're also attracted to men. You have to describe it as sapphic."
How many people know what sapphic means? When I identified as sapphic,* people basically only knew what it meant in online spaces. In real life, people had no clue what it meant, including a lot of queer people I knew, including women attracted to women. And when I explained it, people said "Oh, so lesbian" anyway.
*I no longer identify as sapphic because I'm a man and I don't view my attraction as sapphic anymore. I'm bisexual, and I view my attraction to men as gay, and my attraction to women as straight. I view my attraction to nonbinary people in varying ways depending on individual circumstances, but overall I consider it queer.
"You can't describe yourself as trans/cis as an intersex person if your experience with gender assignment is complicated, you have to use ipsogender/ultergender/intergender/etc. or just say intersex."
How many people actually understand what intersex means, let alone intersex-specific terms that largely arose due to perinormative standards of cisness and transness? Why are we applying perisex standards to intersex people (like basing their inclusion on AGAB and ignoring their complex intersex experiences) when we could literally just include them?
"You can't describe yourself as asexual if you experience sexual attraction on the rare occasion, or enjoy sex. You have to use greysexual/demisexual/cupiosexual/etc." (Or just blatantly saying "You don't need a word for this.")
Asexuality is already invisible as it is. You expect people to understand the individual labels under the asexual umbrella?
I want to be clear. Labels like trixic, sapphic, ipsogender, ultergender, intergender, greysexual, demisexual, cupiosexual, etc. are completely valid to use, and I actually do believe they should be made more visible! But I also think that people should opt into these labels on their own terms, not because bigger communities refuse to make space for them.
And, if your solution to all of this is "You have to just use queer, or be unlabeled," you've proven my point. You're literally just telling people that labels for specific experiences exist, just not for theirs. They don't get the option of having more specific words.
Stop policing how people identify.

Interciaspec and Intercingender
( ID 1: A flag with five horizontal stripes, in the following colors: dark gray, turquoise, yellow, bubblegum pink and purple. In the center, there's a green circle outline with a yellow border around it. End ID. )
( ID 2: A flag with seven horizontal stripes, the middle stripe being thicker, in the following colors: yellow, teal, navy blue, very dark blue, purple, bubblegum pink and yellow. In the center, there's a green circle outline with a very dark blue border around it. End ID. )
Terms and flags for those who are Intersex and Ciaspec / Cingender, and / or are Ciaspec / Cingender in an Intergender ( or Ipsogender ) way / in a way which is caused by or inherently tied to being Intersex.
( If you don't want to use the combination terms you can just call them Intersex Ciaspec / Intersex Cingender. )
Combining the Intersex flag by Morgan Carpenter with the Ciaspec and Cingender flags by @ryanyflags. I thought the layout of those flags and the colors were incredibly pretty, so I tried to maintain that while still making them distinctly a combination / Intersex-focused.
The green in the circle comes from this Cis flag, which the Ciaspec / Cingender flags are based on.
Obviously these are intersex-exclusive but perisex folk are free to reblog or archive !! Free for anyone to use anywhere.
