I love when non Americans are tryna like get Americans on fahrenheit by saying "do you know what temperature water boils at???" I have never once in my fucking life needed to know what temperature water boils at. I boil water all the time by literally just looking at it. what are you guys needing the boiling point of water so much for?

i have an idea but it involves me having to create something and then forget about it for the next three years or so until enough time has passed that a thin film of irony and disconnect has been created between the current (that is to say, future) me and the product of my labour
so hopefully therein i shall feel comfortable enough to bare that particular part of my creative soul to the world. alas, it requires creating something. now. that is the hard part, isnt it

I've loved every project I approached with this "one a day regardless of how good it is" mindset (which is to say, every -tober, -vember or -arch challenge). I'm kind of doing this now with screenshot studies, but less formal. So I'm in favor :)
Some of my most impactful work came from those contraints! And it's definitely good for skill building.
I feel like the stumbling block re:ambitiousness here would be really pressuring yourself to finish it, like making it an obligation by having too firm of expectations. So idk, my advice would be accept from the beginning you'll peter off eventually and just commit to doing it for as long as it still makes you happy or feels worthwhile.
When I have fewer drawings to work on - maybe next year? - do you think I should draw the Pokedex? Like, try to draw a Pokemon a day regardless of how good it is. Get me into the habit of drawing frequently and all that. Or am I being a bit ambitious there?

Im listening to Pratchat podcast ep81 https://pratchatpodcast.com/2024/11/08/pratchat81-notes-and-errata/
They are discussing the Terry Pratchett short story "Hollywood Chicken" which Terry wrote in his author note that it was inspired by a trueish story from yourself. Did you ever visit or see the chickens in your travels around Hollywood?
Yes: often. They lived at the patch of ground on either side of the Vineland offramp of the Hollywood Freeway/US 101. You could see them scratching around and doing their thing pretty much any time you went up that offramp in a car or bus. (As for “trueish”: God love ‘em, they’re still there. In fact, they’ve apparently spread to the next offramp down.)
Terry’s exact wording about this in his forenote to the story is, “Diane Duane swore it was true, and I wasn’t about to argue.” 😏 This would have been because when the subject came up in some convention bar or other, (a) we were in Telling Another Writer About A Cool if Unlikely-Sounding Thing mode—at which time you do not “pull the long bow,” just lay out the facts as known to you—and (b) I knew quite well Terry’d later do his fact-checking and possibly find out more about the story than I knew: which would be fun. …Thus (eventually/accidentally) leaving me with one of the greatest blurb slugs ever seen. 😄
HTH!

becoming an academic weapon challenge⋆.ೃ࿔*:・✍🏽
Tumblr media
this is a fun little challenge i created that'll hopefully help u to build good academic habits that'll improve ur grades and help inspire you to pursue excellence in ur academic life.
Tumblr media
STEP ONE : ROMANTICIZE THE HECK OUT OF SCHOOL
when u learn to enjoy going to school, your going to be motivated to do well in school. because school is so IMPORTANT not only for ur education but also ur future. so take school seriously. and if u wanna become an academic weapon for the long term the best thing u can do is learn to make the best of, and enjoy it.
some ways to romanticize school :
create a school playlist that embodies the school vibes that u wanna have : i have lots of new jeans in my school playlist : i rly like the songs cookie, ditto and hurt for when im at school
ur appearance : if u go to a school where u dont have to wear uniforms, i strongly recommend getting dressed and getting ready meticulously bcuz when u look good, u feel good, and therefore u perform well. if u do wear uniform, wear accessories or hairstyles that make u feel and look pretty. i wear leg warmers with my school uniform and my signature is hair clips and barrettes.
Tumblr media
read at school : i always walk around with a book bcuz i like to read a lot but if reading isnt ur thing, listen to a podcast about something that interests u (i rly like true crime)
take pride in ur notes : invest in cute stationary! i swear, sometimes i dont feel like studying but since my stationary is super cute and pink i get motivated to study just by looking at it lol. invest in quality stationary that u love and make ur notes look pleasing to you, and also effective. effective + aesthetically pleasing.
doing homework/studying in the library : or at least changing the scenery and location that u do ur homework from time to time. do yk how boring it is to do work in the same place every single day? give urself a break from the places u see all the time and spend time studying or doing homework outside of ur home. in a cafe or in the library, inside or outside, just change the scenery a bit
start a video diary : i started a little video diary with my friends so that we can remember our school memories. i just think its rly cute and a great way to bond with ur friends, make memories, and romanticize school.
STEP TWO : CREATE A STUDY REGIMEN
every single day study (at least for a little bit) ofc this will vary depending on ur personal schedule but the goal is to do a little bit of studying everyday, and if that isnt possible, designating 3 days a week to a thorough studying session.
the way that i divide my time with a study session is 40 minutes of work time and 20 minutes of downtime. during the 40 minutes of work time u need to LOCK IN. lock in on whatever assignment needs to be complete or lock in on whatever material it is that ur studying. ofc this'll differ between all subjects but dont study all subjects in one night!! thats ambitious, but i find it'll just burn u out so stick to studying for 2-3 subjects max.
Tumblr media
STEP THREE : ADVOCATING FOR URSELF
this step is for everyone who feels a bit shy during school but u need to raise ur hand and ask questions!! dont focus on simply learning the material, the goal is to understand the material. understand it enough so that then u can explain it to someone else. thats how you can know when you've studied enough.
dont feel bad for asking a bunch of questions, its literally the teachers job to help you. so advocate for urself, if u need extra classes or a bit of extra help make sure that u get that for urself bcuz at the end of the day the only one responsible for ur grade is you.
STEP FOUR : THE RULES OF THE CHALLENGE
complete every assignment as if it was for a grade - dont half ass ur assignments, give every assignment 100%
study a little bit everyday or have thorough study sessions three times a week
romanticize school
ask one or more questions per teacher

i started malevolent because of you. i started camp here n there because of you. im now listening to the magnus archive because of you. im asking for classic goth lit for christmas, mainly jekyll and hyde and dorian gray, because of your gothic lit stickers. you made me pick dracula back up after months and next is frankenstein. im also asking for hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and going postal. take a wild guess why. spoiler: you. you have caused me many sleepless nights and will continue to cause many more, im sure. these stupid gay podcasts have made me more passionate and more inspired to make art than ive been in a looooong time. you made me an artist again. thank you, my lord. your podcast yaoi has successfully indoctrinated me into SO MUCH MEDIA.
OMMHGGGG that’s so so silly I’m glad my silly doodles could inspire you to create and seek out more art to indulge in <33333

Do you have any advice on how to be more spiritual??
Honor your sensitivity. Trust when a belief feels like the truth. Validate your experience when the wind blows a certain way and you feel especially connected to it. Validate that god hears your prayers. We are spirit manifest, using bodies that were made to give and receive love, so that spirit can experience what it means to become. I think it’s why we love video games, books, emotional music, etc. I think those behaviors are a reverberation of spirit choosing to experience a narrower scope of reality, even if it hurts. We just looovve it. Thats my understanding at least. You might have a whole different understanding that feels truer for you, validate your observations and let your beliefs expand
Let the balance of heightening and feeding your sensitivity become a lifelong art. Spirit communicates with us through body sensations. Inspired states are the first stepping stone towards enmeshing fully with that complete unity. I have seen a pattern in people who want spiritual experiences, we are sensitive in some way, and we try to dull our senses for a long time. Give your nervous system a break. If you constantly listen to podcasts or music, try to fast from it and rediscover why you love it. Constant input will drown out all other things, and when you experience spirit you will find how loud it has always been.
I used to get these random waves of energetic input that I believed was anxiety but I just found so much more evidence that it was spirit trying to connect with me. Spirit looks for a nervous system with potential to pick up signals like an antenna. Now that I interpret that very neutral experience, a charged nervous system, with a more expansive and loving story, i have a spiritual experience. My advice is to agree that you are spiritual and to keep finding evidence. If this sounds like im saying to fool yourself, i would ask you what are you convincing yourself of already

Happy #AudioDramaSunday wanderers! Looking for a show to fill the void now that the Fringes is over? Well, look no further as today we're shouting out some excellent shows to fall in love with now that our show has concluded! Let's get started!
Starting things off with @souloperatorpod which was created by our very own Marigold, @totcoc0a ! Soul Operator is horror and mystery and ttrpg inspire amazingness. Everything Tot has done with this show sings in the best of ways and @strautmaskreplica's editing is divine
@grottopod is liminal horror about grief and caving with original music and cover songs in each episode and it's absolutely fantastic. Our very own @taytayheyhey is one of the main characters and does amazing work! @athansmusic has ripped my heart out and honestly? Worth it.
@woebegonepod starts as a fictional game and becomes time travel, murder, and cowboys. It also has amazing original music its episodes and while most of it has been just Dylan's voice acting, the VAs he has in the later seasons are wonderful. This show defies genre and I love it
@tellnotalespod has ghosts! And grief! And convoluted science about ghosts and grief! It is the kindest show about ghosts you will ever encounter and has made me cry so much. Leon Egan poured his whole heart into this show and it shows in every facet of it
Would this really be a recommendation list from me if I didn't mention @ethicstownpod ? Imagine if moral quandries carried real world weight and then turn that guilt up to 11 and you have Ethics Town. I adore this show and everything that it has become and I cannot WAIT for S3
It also wouldn't be me without mentioning The Technomancy Project which is another genre mashup in the best of ways it's got horror it's got sci fi it's got magic it's made me cry it's great!
@thekilda is part of the reason that the Fringes happened at all. Seeing this dark fantasy cult stuff podcast from the ground up inspired me to finish writing the Fringes and I'm eternally grateful. It also introduced me to Michelle Kelly's work and then she became Alexandria!
@doyoucopypod is another show about grief (why do I love so many shows about grief?) with horror and fantasy elements and it squeezes my heart in my chest. @delaylays has created one of my favorite series of all time with this show and I know s3 will destroy me
@allatseapod is horror-ish microfiction about being stranded- you guessed it- at sea. Noah Bell's voice acting and writing are both phenomenal and i am desperate to find out how Feb got themself into this mess they're in
@audistorium is an anthology which runs all over the genre-sphere and has some of the best writing and sound design I've ever heard. It's got an episode for every kind of listener and Landon Lemon Whisnant does excellent voice work in it!
@thenightpost has cozy horror vibes and also respect the post office which is something we should all do more. The magic in this world is so intriguing and the characters are so engaging and all of the work in it is wonderful I cannot recommend it more
@hinaypod also falls into cozy horror for me but more along the lines of "Motzie Dapul has a very soothing and cozy voice and OPE NOPE THERES THE HORRORS!" Im very early on still but the weaving of magic and folklore and Filipino culture is fantastic (Also they're crowdfunding for season 3 on ko-fi and you wanna back it soooo bad https://ko-fi.com/hinaypod/goal?g=34)
And finally (for this post at least) we have @camlannpod which is the most hopeful post apocalypse show I've ever encountered. It has Arthurian legends, folklore, mythology, beautiful music, brilliant performances, excellent writing, and Paul Warren, what more could you want?
If you're looking for more from me to fill the void, then you're in luck as @forgedbondspod starts on the 18th!! If you wanna get access to that even sooner, it will be going like for crowdfunder backers and patrons over at patreon.com/pinetreepods on the 14th!
Work and working on Forged Bonds has kept me busy so I haven't had as much podcast listening time but I'm hoping to get back in the swing of listening and Audio Drama Sunday posting again soon!!

Hello Mr Bossman! (and possibly anyone else who reads this)
Its an honour to be here, I have a few questions. First i appologise for the long paragraph, you may dismiss it for the questions at the bottom. For context, i am here after finishing TMA and being up to date with TMAP, i then went over and listened to RQG, and have just finished listening to Epilogue 3 and might i just say, good sir I am grateful for your podcasts. I am currently just a few months away from my final exams of High School, and as someone who even just 1 year ago was very lost, struggling with school and being just overwhelmed. TMA isnt exactly comforting, but the characters and plot managed to serve as a good form of escapism while sorting myself out. I found my self engaging more in creative things that i had originally put aside in favour of maths and science (which i hated but thought i needed to do). I started drawing again, even if just fanart. and i found things going well. By finding podcasts, story telling and these communities have helped me in my own understanding of what i want in life. I got an ADHD diagnosis earlier this year, and almost directly after started RQG and as my first hyperfixation (that i was aware of as an hyperfixation) gosh dang it hit hard. (in a good way). Ive been able to do so much more creative writing and drawings, and got re-involved with a small dnd group with some friends who i played one game with almost 4 years ago now. So overall, inspirational sounds cringe, but it was. Im doing my best with the upcoming exams, but trying to get in to Medicine is not my only prority, and the fact ive been re-introduced to my first love (Literature and story telling), im planning to go do an Arts degree and i know i wouldnt have been able to confidently make this decision, or even have survived this long in the school system without the work you and your coworkers do. Now the sap is out of the way, Question time! (if you could answer even just one of these questions it would be so cool)(they go in order of RQ relevant to random stuff)(dont feel pressured to answer all/any. i know i wrote alot): 1. what would you say is the best way to draft out a long-form story. (with "Erasing the Line" as an example) Did you start at the end, with the links to the overarching plot.
2. When working with the players (in a form of TTRPG), what did you do to make sure you didnt miss relevant timing of plot points/ avoid creating spoilers while still giving enough detail?
3. What are good places to start with making a job out of storytelling/voice acting/audio etc. In the case of RQ, how is this a job and where do i sign up please! /j (what i mean is, how is best way/how did you find all the people involved and was there a common path that you were all on before getting to where you are now?) 4. Do you have recommendations for Terry Pratchett Books, i may be an literary-leaning student, but it seems i have never actually properly read any of his books. so where is best place to start?/What did you read first?
5. Similar authors or similar inspirations? Did you have a favourite podcast you listen to in your free time that you havnt had a hand in producing/directing/working on. 6. Favourite song/album/artist. And more specifically, what you like listening to in background when doing either writing or (for ttrpg) character research/game planing. 7. Since the olympics are on at the moment, what has been your favourite sport to watch, if you have been watching at all. Thank you for your time :)
Thankyou for all the kind words. Knowing our work is helping people really keeps our engines fired up. Let's see if I can't answer your questions: 1. I "sandbox" which is where I just shove everything I can think of into an unorganised bullet point list. Characters, setting, plot, all of it in one big mess. Then I decide what type of story you want to tell, copy and paste to a new document and then start to organise the thoughts (with the sandbox on standby if new stuff comes in I don't know what to do with). I think of it like scultping, you cut away bits and reshape until something comes out the other end that is story shaped. Only then do I attempt to build the sandcastle and put something coherant together like a synopsis or scratch draft etc.
2. Very tricky. I did a complete review and update of all notes after each recording session and don't forget the audio eas edited. I made lots of gaffs that you never heard as audience.
3. I contacted anyone I could convince to take part and just proved I was serious by overworking. I don't reccomend that route. Unfortunately it really is "who" you know. That doesn't mean chase established professionals as much as it means you need to get out there and associate with other up-and-comers who match your vibe. For me the route was long and windy and not a particularly good example. 4. I normally recommend people do not read his books in publication order. Don't get me wrong, its wonderful watching his craft grow from one title to the next but I would recommend new readers tip their toe into his later works to see if they like where he ended up before committing the time. I often recommend 'Monstrous Regiment' as people's first one. My favourite though is 'Thief of Time.'
5. I don't get much time to listen to podcasts in the last couple of years. I used to listen to a lot of non fiction. 'Stuff you Should Know' and that ilk. I also read a fair amount of classic YA fiction to unwind (Windinsger trilogy, Bartimeous, stuff like that.) 6. Paul Simon's Graceland but when working I assemble a playlist for each seperate project that is tonally appropriate. If I really need to focus I listen to Classical Minimalism. Or the Old School Runescape soundtrack. I'm allowed to be ecclectic. 7. I am actually in an incredibly busy work crunch at the moment so haven't seen any of it!

chrollo: -only listens to classical composers because he can't stand "modern sounds" (why else would lacrimosa be playing during uvo's requiem? /j) -thats all
feitan: -only listens to two genres: screamo and vocaloid -only listens to two subgenres of vocaloid: super upbeat silly stuff (popipo, age age again, etc) and maretu (and also tokyo teddy bear) -he really likes poppy's more recent albums
pakunoda: -eva is saying she listens to mitski, and i agree, but i think thats more of a machi thing -wait no she bets on losing dogs canonically (rip kuropaku) -billie eilish -modern covers of old swing songs (lady gaga's cover of "That's Life") -oh she also listens to lady gaga -loves the Heathers soundtrack tbh
machi: -just enjoys girly pop music -melanie martinez (but she only pirates the music because she hates her, she really likes portals. she likes the fairy vibes) -mitski, but she tries not to get too sad over it -penelope scott, and is eternally angry she was bullied off the internet -songs that trend on tiktok, but the good ones that evoke villainry vibes >:) -olivia rodrigo -chappel roan

Hisoka -diddy (IM JOKING) -melanie martinez (started listening to her after the allegations EVA WROTE THAT) -pray for the wicked (he likes the other p!atd stuff too) -chappel roan (does hot to go dance in shower) -lady gaga (he listened to Judas and that's what gave him the idea to betray the troupe)
Illumi -claims he's "too sophisticated to listen to music" -borrows Kalluto's MP3 player to listen to the fnaf songs secretly -Shalnark showed him Chrissy Chlapecka and he started crying
franklin -imagine dragons (im sorry) -listens to 100 gecs with kortopi sitting on his shoulders (theyre sharing a set of wired earbuds) but he doesnt really get it (also the earbud keeps falling out cuz his ears are too big)
Phinks -i have the really unpopular opinion that phinks is a republican -listens to joe rogan podcast and ben shapiro (im so so sorry) -country rock -cries to "I'm Just Ken" -Queen
Kalluto: -video game fan songs (FNaF like tryhardninja and CG5) -undertale soundtrack -the hazbin hotel soundtrack (kikyo found out and grounded him for a week)
Shalnark: -there is no correct answer other than gay pop -chrissy chlapecka -jojo siwa (he heard pakunoda listening to it ironically and didnt understand it was a joke) -PAiDA -chappel roan, i fear this is common sense
Nobunaga -doesnt listen to music, listens to podcasts and brags about it
Kortopi -100 gecs (no one else can explain why he likes it)
Bonolenov -eva says system of a down but i dont know anything about their music so -eva says he blows into his arms and just enjoys the sounds -enjoys old warped music from early radio
Uvogin: -trap -Queen (eva says the two genres cant coexist in one person but idc im RIGHT) -eva says cannibal corpse (idk who that is why am i letting eva (a nerd) dictate my shitpost)
this was mostly for shits and giggles but i stand by shalnark, chrollo, feitan, and machi

hihihi, i NEED desperately for you to understand how wild the experience of checking your phone -> seeing eeler's choice notif -> realising its a tag -> realising one of the creators POSTED YOUR ART ON THEIR FRIDGE is. at work, i might add.
im sure youve seen my tags by now (apologies, i was briefly overcome with emotion) but genuinely from the bottom of my heart, thanks for making eeler's choice. i listened to it 3 times in 4 days during commutes and it was lovely every time. the writing, worldbuilding, voice acting (not quite over ran's singing voice yet), and sound design are all great. im looking forward to season 2, and looking forward to my 4th relisten :]
Hi Cat!
I want you to know I had a similar experience scrolling tumblr on my non audio drama related blog and seeing your art cross my dash. I lost it. I've been an audio drama creator for a few years now, but this is the first show that I personally created that's had this fan response, and everytime I am grateful.
I'm gonna get sappy a moment here, if you'll let me.
I graduated from college last spring with a degree in Marine Biology. I wanted to help the ocean, make an impact on people's lives. I wanted to do something that mattered.
It's been over a year, and I still can't find a job in science. So I've turned to podcasting. I wonder a lot about what I'm doing, if it makes an impact on anyone, if it matters.
Seeing that you were so moved by something Lou and I created that you've listened THREE TIMES, that you are inspired to creation by it, and that you've listened with enough care to include the tiniest details (Ran's tattoo had me HOWLING), it wowed me.
So much of creation is howling into the void. You put it out there, and you watch the downloads, and you hope that people like what you make, that it resonates with them.
So thank you. Thank you to anyone who makes fanart, writes fanfiction, fanfiction, shitposts, analysis. I'm a full time creator now. I need to have my finger on the pulse of what my audience wants, and being able to scroll the tumblr tags for my shows and SEE it is something I can't even express the importance of.
I say this at the top of every intro read I do for Poe: Evermore, for SCP Archives, for Nightmare Soup and it's true every time. I see every review and comment you guys leave. And I'm grateful for every one.
