I've been planning on drawing this scene ever since I read chapter 4 of Drones' story I'll Never Let You Go. I think it's only a minor spoiler? But I'm giving you a heads up just in case. If you haven't read this story yet but like Mario and especially Super Mario Galaxy, you're really missing out!

💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?

It always bugs me in fanfics when Luigi is depicted as easily captured whenever he's on his own, especially if it's been established that he's been living in the mushroom kingdom for a long time at that point.

Yes, Luigi prefers to save fighting as a last resort, particularly if his brother isn't around, but he's also a very slippery little guy who is intensely hard to pin down! Not nearly enough people focus on that aspect of him.

Thank you Anon! :3 We thought this particular story felt appropriate to explore something a little different, yet familiar to those who might know a lot about the Mario lore! 🍄 Although, as you guys are about to see, Mario isn't quite as collected as he might seem... 😰

Also, that's an interesting question! I have shown him as being distressed or frustrated in previous artwork, and have been planning to delve a bit further into his more reactive side in dangerous or dramatic situations, but- regarding exclusively what I have shared so far, I don't think so, no. 🙇‍♀️ Mainly due to the fact that the events portrayed in the collab are essentially the worst and most upsetting combination possible for Mario. A nefarious plan, a sneaky intrustion in the dead of night, the shameful use of dark spells, the fact that Peach is the one being targeted and wasn't in any position to even defend herself... It's basically a recipe for disaster. Nearly everything Mario hates and is deeply angered by, put together in a single scenario. 😖💥

Bowser tilts his head. “Your brother? You mean Greenie? What, he’s good with machines or something?”

Mario laughs. It’s absurd, given the amount of time they’ve spent together, that the topic never came up. He’s almost reticent to share the information with the Koopa King, wary Bowser might take the intel back with him after all was said and done, somehow find a way to exploit this tidbit for personal gain.

Two weeks ago, it would have been a legitimate concern. But now, the chances of them living through this adventure seem to be dwindling with each passing hour, the line between enemy and friend, once so clear in Mario’s mind, blurring to the point of non-existence. 

“Yeah, something like that,” Mario says. “He was going to be a mechanical engineer before we landed in the Mushroom Kingdom. Was always tinkering with some machine or vehicle when we were young.” God, Luigi had gotten into so much trouble the day he popped open the hood of their father’s repair van. 

“Huh,” Bowser crosses his arms, contemplating this new information. A moment later, he does a double-take, jaw hanging slightly open with whatever epiphany he’s just reached. “Wait, you mean into mechanics like that asshole we fought in the Whoa Zone?” Bowser takes his chin in his hand. “I thought he looked familiar.”

First Snufmin and now bowuigi!? I'm not even a monster fucker! I'm just a bitch for interspecies relationship's! Idk why but I find something about it so adorable! Why brain why!?

Not to mention that Bowser is a dad! Another thing I'm a bitch for! Single parents that finally allow themselves out there, that fear that they may not get along with your child. But they do and in time start to become so ingrained in the family dinamic one starts wondering if they had always been a part of it all along.

And the other way around! The fear that they won't be a good parent but willing to try because they love their partner so much and don't want to see them go. And the realization that they are a good parent and are ready for the responsibility, not only because of there partner but because of the little bundle of joy they have now fallen in love with! And after a while wonder how they ever lived without there family.

Just aaaaaaaaa

And let's not forget why I love interspecies relationship's so much! It's basically for the same reason as the single parent trope! A new way of life they don't quite understand, a difference in way's of showing how much they love each other. Sometimes they stumble sometimes they don't get the hint, not for any fault of there's, they just have never experienced it before. The angst to! The heartbreak of thinking the other doesn't love them back, because something so obvious to them is so confusing to the other. The nesasary communication for all of it to work at all.

And they fall in love with every form there partner expresses love and maybe... Even starts doing it themselves.

The second he gets his microphone back, he creates a starring role for Luigi on the spot (as a mix of inspiration and appreciation for Luigi's star potential? Man's got a good eye)

And y'know, I think if Weegee hadn't been scared out of his mind, facing down real, actual fire, and been given actual direction/a better idea of what was going on, I think he'd be ecstatic to be in a monster movie as a monster

hello! I wanted to ask King Boo and Luigi don't they hate each other? Did something different happen so that now they love each other?

I think Luigi would eventually stop helping E.Gadd capture all those Boos n Ghosts after King Boo tells him "Hey, these are actual people you're putting into paintings, they have families too you know. And you have the nerve to say I'M the bad one, I'm just trying keep my people SAFE from the likes of you and that Professor. Just think about who's actually the bad one here." (Or something like that)

Luigi's a good guy you know, sweet and kind so I think he would feel bad for all the boo's n ghosts that had to suffer throughout this. So he eventually makes it up to the King by defending them from the Professor. Which eventually leads to KB trusting Luigi more (and ofc makes him realize he might LIKE like the green Plumber after they are more fond of eachother)

He always said hello and smiled when she passed and on a good day, she'd pinch his cheek and smile in a manner that made his entire face screw up in...confusion? Embarrassment? Whatever it was, she usually enjoyed teasing him.

Today, she was shaking him. "You don't understand, I need to be beautiful, hm." She seemed more manic than anything else. He had only mentioned her new hair, saying she looked different and she'd gotten herself into a tizzy. "Tell me right now, am I gorgeous? Not going to lie, I'm kind of interested in this weird Mario AU/headcanon idea where Luigi is actually a terrible cook (and I mean a terrible cook), but no one, not one single person in the entire world has the heart to tell Luigi that he's a bad cook.

Adding to the post-story speculation with Luigi, if he learned of the thoughts Mario had of believing himself to be no better than Kamek for resorting to violence to stop him, I imagine he’d be VERY quick to refute that way of thinking and reassure his brother that that couldn’t be farther from the truth, that there is a big difference between him and Kamek: Kamek used violence to harm him and the princess, but Mario used violence to protect her.

While the story primarily follows Mario's perspective (and thus doesn't divert from the threat nor the Princess, since this is what his mind was solely focused on in that timeframe), I think it can still be quite interesting to try and picture what it would be like from Luigi's point of view; especially as a follow-up. Including the opinion of a third party would certainly carry both its share of levity and seriousness, of playfulness and feels...

And no one knows Mario better than Luigi does.

Of course he would adamantly disagree, and he would be right to do so. If Mario were to bring this up at some point (either in the form of a confession, accidental slip-up or weary observation), there's no doubt in my mind that they would have a sincere and heartfelt talk about it. And I'm sure that Luigi, as he always does, would do everything he can to lift his brother's spirits. 🫂💫
