ok people keep wildly misinterpreting my post or believing im lying or implying the letter is fake this was not meant to blow up like it did or for people to take what was mostly meant as a fun joke thing so seriously so i shall cite my sources if anyone is interested

so we have established the veracity of the letter but i do also disagree with how people are interpreting it because one the relationship between kirk and spock was already heavily explored in the first season this letter was written in the summer of 1967 between the first and second seasons and actually my joke about this leading to amok time was false the script for amok time was in development as early as december of 1966 [source: these are the voyages tos season 2 page 7] but the script took too long to complete for season 1 this letter did not invent the kirk and spock relationship plenty of groundwork had been laid in season 1 and also slash was invented by the fans it wasnt invented by any of the writers on star trek it was entirely something fans did it was part of fan engagement and fan reinterpretation take some credit for that yourselves guys.. also for one more fact check some people were saying that the part in the letter where asimov suggests the third season will be an easier renewal was funny because it required a letter writing campaign to go forward are in fact incorrect this is a common fan misconception but if you are interested in more theres quite a lot in these are the voyages tos season 2 i linked the archived version above if you are curious.. anyways the letter writing campaign and threat of cancellation was actually after season 1 and not season 2 the third season was an easier renewal than season 2 ok thank you for your time and apologies for walls of star trek facts i am clocking out of the take jokes too seriously factory for the night

very funny that the solution to shatner and nimoys feuding and ego problems behind the scenes was send them to the yaoi mines until they worked it out and this was suggested by acclaimed science fiction writer isaac asimov they will stop fighting over lines and spotlight if you always place the characters together and make their relationship central to the show one cannot think of spock without kirk and kirk without spock and next domino falls slash fiction is invented..
