I'm in love with how this season of Visions made the Force so wonderful and big in the way it can be accessed. It also rightly made the Dark Side utterly vile, terrifying and disgusting. But the way young Force-sensitive really discover the Force for the first time? (Or rediscover it, in Toul's case.) It's so magical.

It's light from your planet's plantlife and it's memories you couldn't reach before showing up as dancing paintings.

It's foggy visions on wet stones.

It's the clarity of facing yourself.

It's glowing statues, showing you that hope exists in equal measure to despair.

It's the light of a kyber choosing you reflected in your eyes.

And it's a thousand songs calling to you, so you can sing back and heal the corruption.

It's light and music and it's so personal and unique and multifaceted and nobody experiences it quite the same aaaaaah i love it so much!!!! This feels like Rebels!!!! It's like Lothal and the dancing paintings and the World Between Worlds and the wolves!!!!

HECK YEAH. That's why Star Wars needs animation, not just live-action. How do you communicate to an audience what the Force even is if you can't have moments like this? It actually felt like being there with the characters learning what the Force is, and seeing and feeling it! That's the kind of stuff I want to see the most.

Charles wrinkles his nose. “Mate, I literally know nothing about babies.”

“Lucky for you, I have nieces and nephews, so I know a little.” Max frowns, “But I don’t have any supplies right now.”

Charles shrugs again, clearly waiting for Max to figure out the next step. God, what is he even doing here? He is so unbelievably useless.

Max sighs. “I’ll go buy some things for him. Can you stay here and just watch him?”

Charles huffs, motioning to the cats. “I’m sure your cats can take care of him just fine.”

Max resists the overwhelming urge to throw Sassy at Charles’s stupid, pretty face. Wait. Pretty? Did Max just think that? 

“I’m kidding! I’ll babysit the alien-ghost-superbaby.” Charles sighs dramatically. “And I guess I’ll make breakfast or something.”

Finally. He’s being useful.

"In the Stars" is just such an absolutely devastating story. Like no matter what Tichina and Koten are able to do, this planet will never be the same and their people are destroyed. There's no fixing it, there's no coming back from it. Even with the Imperials dead and their factory gone, it changes very little. Tichina and Koten are the last of their people and their culture will die with them.

Which isn't to say it doesn't matter for them to fight back and have that last victory, obviously, but there is no truly happy ending for them. And the implication at the end of the episode is that this victory, and their happy ending, came at the cost of their lives. They were in a lose/lose situation, they either fought back and died in the process of defeating their enemy or they survived as long as they could in an impossible and toxic environment. Either way, their people die when they do.

And it's just heart-wrenching because as sweet as that music is at the end, as happy as they seem, there's not a lot of hope to the story depending on how you look at it. The best they can hope for is that the planet heals and whoever ends up settling on it next continues to take care of it rather than using up its resources the way the Empire did. Tichina and Koten got to die on their own terms, fighting back and without living in fear, and that's worth something, but sometimes that's the best you can manage. Sometimes victory looks like just being able to die on your own terms rather than letting your enemy keep you hidden forever out of fear.

Their story is a tragic one, but that doesn't make it not worth telling.

ICYMI: The Chilean Star Wars Visions short, "In the Stars" was inspired by the genocide of the Selk'nam, an indigenous group in Patagonia.

But yesterday, after a long campaign, the Selk'nam finally gained official recognition from the Chilean government:

Here's a little bit in English about what it means for them to be officially recognized, and what it took to get there (written beforehand):

This official recognition also includes the Chilean government admitting its fault in the genocide publicly, which is a really big deal.

Also, a movie about the Selk'nam genocide, "The Settlers" (Los Colonos), which won an award at Cannes, was also just selected by the Chilean Film Academy as Chile's entry for the Oscars this year (and will be coming out for wider audiences soon!):

"In the Stars", sadly, was disqualified from the Emmys this year on a TECHNICALITY - there will be NO short form animated entries this year because of a mess behind the scenes.

All that being said, it's wonderful news for the Selk'nam this week, and it's really cool when Star Wars reflects a real world struggle against fascism.

“Maman, what are you doing here?” Charles asks, running a hand down his face.

His mother shifts her gaze between them before finally sighing, shaking her head in amusement. She holds up a paper bag.

“I brought you some food.” Her lips twitch with a knowing smile. “I texted you, mon fils, but you didn’t reply. I suppose now I know why.”

Charles groans. “Maman, it’s not what it looks like.”

His mother raises a skeptical brow.
