Theory without interacting with your fellow man is defective. In order for you to have a rounded sense of politics and what your community needs, you must strike the fine balance between theory (i.e., empowering yourself to understand the way ought to work) and actual interaction with others (i.e., understanding how the world actually works).
Theory without human connection is incomplete and human connection without theory is aimless.
#politics#studying theory alone is how you get people who say there is only one experience for [x] group to have for instance#in many ways theory can only provide /so much/ nuance before it becomes unusable. that's the way language naturally works.#in order to actually USE theory you have to apply it - either that or you have to seriously consider how it would look in /your/ community#i've probably made a point like this before but fuck it we ball#the last sentence is a bit nuanceless (this is a word now) but it's the overall idea of what i mean

Seen an interesting thing:
It's not really clear what anon means by "pro-israel". "Hating on Arabs/Muslims" or "Hating on genocide of Jews"? Let me remind you,
Ukraine is historically the land where Jews could live peacefully until the notorious russian empress Catherine the Second put the Sedentary Band on Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania. That meant that Jews were deported from villages to cities, the Jews had to take russian-like surnames and names in order not to be arrested or killed - and then, russia organized pogroms all over those cities, including Vilnius, Kyiv, Miensk and Odesa. Jews could not leave the Sedentary Band without being arrested and/or killed. Russia put all sorts of bans and restrictions on Jewish traders, too. As you can see, the soviet union idea has much deeper roots than it seems.
That's why, after the Sedentary Band was cancelled, a large amount of Jews fled away: some to Poland, some to America, some to russia, some to Palestine. In russia, which is originally the biggest antisemit, life sucked pretty much, enough for many already russian-speaking Jews leaving it later and once again migrating to Poland, America, Palestine, etc. So technically, russia, as the biggest sponsor of Hamas, is at fault for both murders of Jews by Islamists and Jewish "occupation" of Palestine, lol.
After soviet pogroms, Holocaust happened, which was followed by even more soviet pogroms, actively financed by russia (go read about Lithuanian Jewish actor Andrei Mironov or Ukrainian composer Isaac Iosifovich Schwartz) - and unfortunately, some Ukrainians actively participated in killing Jews. After Ukraine has gained its independence from russia in 1991, we made sure that Ukrainians will never forget the misery, grief and pain which was brought upon Jews, both by Nazi, communists and just Ukrainian antisemitic collaborants. When I was a kid, every year, we had excursions to Babyn Yar museum - the place where hundreds of hundreds of Jews, including kids and their moms, were brutally murdered.
Ukrainians are "pro-Israel" because we understand what it's like, to be genocided, to be victim-blaimed, when the whole world turns its back on you just because your enemy is richer and more popular. Ukrainians don't hate Muslims or Palestinians - Ukrainians are disgusted by mass murders and rapes Hamas brought upon the Jews and Druzes and random tourists, some Ukrainians actually were killed on October 7, too. Ukrainians know what "Never Again" means. Ukrainians hate rapists and murderers. That's why we are "pro-Israel", бо інакше це треба бути повним дебілом (although it's much more correct to say we are "pro-Jews" since most of us is totally unaware of whatever happens in Israeli government). Despite understanding the anger of those Palestinians, who have to live through war and lose their loved ones because of their idiotic Hamas, we, as a currently genocided nation, actively support the right of Israel to strike its rapist and mass murderer back. We are also thankful to Israel for seriously damaging Iran's production of "shaheds" which kill Ukrainians almost every day.
The idea itself that Ukrainians support Israel because some Israeli happen to know russian language is insane and sounds like a conspiracy theory. Those Ukrainians who believe that "evil zionists are committing genocide" are just either chronically online or those, who didn't study school history properly, or those with prorussian mentality, or ✨️businessmen✨️. Or all of these together. Which is not a lot of people, thanks God. Hope this helps.
P.S. We don't hate Muslims and Arabs. Ukraine has pretty good relations with Turkey, UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, etc. Many Ukrainians I know are fond of UAE in particular because people there are hardworking and like to study and apply the knowledge to make the world better.

Debunking some misinformation about Hephaestus and Aphrodite’s Marriage
I’m so sick and tired so I’m making a thread, enjoy. I’ll break it down into several points.
1. Hephaestus demanded Aphrodite’s hand in marriage in exchange for Hera’s freedom and Aphrodite was forced into the marriage
You’d be surprised by how this isn’t even attested in ancient sources, rather it’s just a theory made by modern scholars bc of how spotty and limited our knowledge about this marriage is, let’s look at the actual sources:
Notice how Aphrodite isn’t even mentioned mentioned as the “prize”? Hephaestus does ask for a goddess in exchange for freeing Hera, but it’s not Aphrodite, it’s Athena. The usual course of events is this:
Hephaestus is angry at Hera for her mistreatment and sends a golden throne that traps her
The other gods try to persuade him to free her but he refuses
Dionysus convinces him by getting him drunk
Again the theory that Aphrodite was the prize for whoever gets Hephaestus to Olympus is just that, a theory. Not a really good one either bc wouldn’t Aphrodite be married to Dionysus instead? It’s a really shallow portrayal of all figures involved tbh, why would Ares only be interested in freeing his mother if it meant he gets to marry Aphrodite? Why would anyone on Olympus not be worried about their queen being chained up? Believe it or not but Hera isn’t as disliked as one would think lol
Now even if Aphrodite wasn’t a prize how did she end up marrying Hephaestus? And was she forced into doing it? No actually (Lucian’s Dialogue of the gods):
That’s not to say this wasn’t an arranged marriage (it most likely was) but arranged marriage and forced marriage are not the same thing. If you think this is a forced marriage then what about Cadmus and Harmonia? Heracles and Hebe? Both these marriages were arranged by Zeus but no one would claim they’re forced marriages.
2. Aphrodite hated Hephaestus
Now this is more open to interpretation, after all love is subjective, but to say they outright hated each other would be incorrect, there is this myth that Aphrodite cursed Lemnos to have the men abandon their wives and female family members, usually bc they neglected on worshipping her (tho a late Latin source says it’s revenge for exposing her affair).
Apollonius of Rhodes' Argonautica:
However this bit seems to be rather… genuine? Almost as if she might have truly felt bad for what she did and wanted to reconcile, sounds like someone with a deeply messy and complicated relationship with their partner, but not outright hate.
Also there is this moment in Lucian’s Dialogue of the Gods which is pretty funny:
3. Hephaestus only saw Aphrodite as property
Ok I don’t like using the “it was a different time” card but like… it really does apply here lol
Now we’ve already established that Aphrodite was never a prize for Hephaestus to begin with so what about the betrothal gifts he gave to Zeus? Obviously that means he was buying Aphrodite right?
Well, no actually this is a normal part of Ancient Greek marriage (obviously it varied between cities and time periods but it usually goes something like this), the father of the bride and the groom exchange gifts with each other to establish a bond between the two, the bride herself wasn’t the “gift” Zeus’s gift to Hephaestus was most likely his place on Olympus.
To say that Hephaestus bought Aphrodite would mean that Odysseus bought Penelope, or Hector bought Andromache, both are ludicrous claims.
4. Hephaestus is an incel and Ares is this big feminist icon
No, just… no.
Ares was never considered “the protector of women” in Ancient Greece that’s tumblr fanfiction and plenty of other ppl have made posts debunking this (including me) so I won’t repeat that here. Now about Hephaestus being an “incel” all the male Olympians have at least one story where they harm an innocent/defenseless woman, all of them, yes including Ares who persecuted Leto while she was heavily pregnant by Hera’s orders.
5. Aphrodite cheated to “regain her sexuality”
No Patrick, cheating on your disabled spouse with his brother in the bed and palace he made for you is not a girlboss move it’s being an asshole (all the gods are flawed, how thought provoking). Hell, even Zeus wouldn’t pull shit like this with Hera.
Aphrodite and Ares most likely did this hoping it would be the last place anyone would suspect an affair, since Aphrodite could’ve had sex with Ares in his own place or some meadow somewhere but that might cause ppl to be too suspicious.
6. Ares is a big dumb brute who can’t take a hint and only saw Aphrodite for her beauty
Believe it or not, just bc I criticize Aphrodite and Ares doesn’t mean I hate them lol. Now look, all the gods care deeply about looks but that’s not the only thing that Ares and Aphrodite love about each other. Here is Ares being a total simp and actually listening to her:
Iliad book 5
Thebaid book 3
7. Aphrodite felt neglected by Hephaestus bc he’s too busy at the forge
No lol, she straight up works with him at the forge, why wouldn’t she? If anything this claim makes Aphrodite even more shallow than she actually is.
8. Aphrodite and Ares didn’t care about being humiliated in the golden net and Ares straight up brags about cucking his brother
Yes I’ve heard such claims and no Ares and Aphrodite are actually capable of feeling shame lol, almost as if they were in the wrong. Also why would Ares actively antagonize the guy who makes all his stuff? Maybe that’s why Athena keeps beating his ass, bc Hephaestus purposely gives Ares shitty weapons and armor lol
Anyways umm… I think that’s it? Maybe I missed a few things bc I’m frustrated af rn
Just so y’all know, I’m not a scholar I’m just autistic and read a lot lol. I hope I didn’t miss something or get anything wrong.
Have a good day (or night).

💄 astrology notes: 15 (mature edition) 💄
quick note: i'm absolutely not an astrologer. these are just a collection of some of my observations, thoughts, theories, and personal experiences. with that being said, i'm still learning along the way & i may come back to edit this post to make corrections. above all this is just for fun. keep in mind that i’m not reading your birth chart and i know nothing about you. these are just some possibilities that may or may not apply to you. lastly, minors do not interact - mature readers only - explicit content! enjoy 💋
x mercury in retrograde: these people may struggle with verbal expression so it’s not that they don’t feel pleasure or that they aren’t turned on, but it's that they might struggle with voicing it and they may feel uncomfortable letting out a genuine moan. so they either don’t say too much or they fake moan often if they’re uncomfortable with the silence.
x neptune in the 8th house: neptune brings imagination so having it in the 8th house can indicate someone who day dreams about sex often. they’re able to create these mental visuals of intense & passionate sex scenarios which they can translate from their minds and to the bedroom in real life. they can portray that neptune creativity via sex, bringing an element of surprise & constant sex appeal. to me this placement reminds of that alluring energy that sirens have. they spark feelings of attraction in other people while fully dressed, but they also have people imagining what they look like nude or what sex with them would be like.
x lilith in cancer: may not want to have kids (or at least not biological ones) but they love it when someone c*ms in them or vice versa, or on their boobs. aside from boob jobs they may have breastfeeding/suckling kinks. overall, they like the chest area whether it be on a man or woman. could also have a c*m fetish or be into c*m play.
it sounds kind of contradicting cause if you c*m in a woman she can become pregnant, and the primary function of the female breast is to provide nutrition to a baby. but with this placement there’s an emphasis on the desire to enjoy these things sexually, all without actually having to become pregnant/have a kid or become a parent.
while they may not like being very emotional themselves, having their partner open up to them emotionally during sex or hearing them say “i love you” could be such an ego boost for them. there’s a desire to be both wanted & needed. they could be big on aftercare as well, but especially if they’re the ones receiving it. this could include cuddling while c*ck warming.
again, being emotional may feel uncomfortable for these natives but they may attract clingy partners because they’re still sensitive & empathetic, it’s just suppressed. they have a natural energy that can make others feel comfortable & safe. they feel like home. might not be into casual sex but if so, casual sex or friends w/ benefits may be complicated because it’s almost inevitable that feelings will get involved whether it be them, the other person, or both. but some people with this placement may use these traits to be emotionally manipulative in order to get what they want, and this includes sex. it’s like their form of enchantment.
x libra mars: libras in general can play the submissive role well, but with mars here it’s like a strength, something they can twist and use to their advantage. they can easily get into the role of being cute, ditzy, and flirty, but in a way that turns you on. teasing you yet giving you exactly what you want. they can manipulate you to make you feel like you’re in control, but it’s only happening cause they’re letting you and they know you like it but they like it too so their submissiveness is like a form of power here. they also like getting spanked too, so they probably like being naughty/bratty so that they can get “punished”. could like being called a good girl/boy. oh, and compliment them on their body or the way they do something that turns you on, they’ll love that.
they like dominance but they still want respect. yes they can be people pleasers & they want to please you in bed as well, but i don’t think they’re the types to enjoy/tolerate getting slapped in the face or anything they classify as too much, disrespectful, or rough/extreme.
but guys with this placement may like women that can dominate them in bed. the types to be dressed in super tight black latex, being gagged, having to beg, etc.
x pisces: could be into somnophilia/sexsomnia kinks, basically wanting to or having sex with someone who’s asleep. but of course this is done with consent and i’m not referring to any actual sexual/sleep disorders. maybe it feels like a fantasy/dream in a way; slowly waking up and going from a state of unconsciousness and sleepiness to a state of sexual pleasure, then falling asleep again filled with bliss … and maybe something else.
& like taurus, pisces love to sleep. but there’s also the sense of being so relaxed and vulnerable in such a state yet your partner still desires you like that and you trust them enough to give them consent. pisces might also feel drunk or high during sex or after they climax, or they giggle a lot.
x mars in the 3rd house: probably had some sexual encounters with their neighbors or even had sex at school. could be considered the neighborhood hottie & may also receive a lot of male attention at school, like classmates commenting on their body.
x mercury-asteroid kiss (8267) / mercury-mars aspects: could be the type to kiss and tell or talk about their sexual experiences without much hesitation. this may be done intentionally because the topic of sex interests them and it’s something they like to discuss, or they do so accidentally by word vomiting. could also be the type of person who easily moves from one person to the next.
x taurus: they have a thing for hickeys on the neck. taurus lives through all their senses and really connects to the physical body and all things tangible/material. taurus rules the neck area so there’s already a natural attraction to that body part & it’s often a highly erogenous area for them as well.
scorpios are usually considered the sexual and possessive type, but taurus shares these traits with their sister sign. & so hickeys can be a way of taurus displaying their dominance, claiming you as theirs, or marking their territory. but it might not be viewed as “intense” which is usually the case with scorpio’s actions, but it makes sense when you think about the contrast between their rulers venus & pluto.
x 2nd house: i’d say prominent 2nd house placements in general are really good at using their mouths. this applies to simply kissing but oral sex as well. if you have the sun here, this could be where you shine when it comes to sex and your partner may consider you the best at kissing/oral out of everyone they’ve been with. it’s like a natural talent. but with lilith, mars, or pluto here i think they’d also leave someone speechless or in awe lol. with venus it may be something they love to do, like one of if not their favorite part about sex. having venus, lilith, pluto, or a stellium here could indicate an oral fixation so they might be into c*ck warming with their mouth. but i think lilith might be more into giving oral rather than receiving it.
x aries & gemini: these two together remind me of cat and mouse. aries likes that challenge, they like to chase & therefore play the role of a cat well. gemini likes to tempt & tease and could really play the role of a mouse. for this reason, i think an aries having sex with a gemini would be bomb. the type where things heat up in an instant. at some point, aries won’t be able to handle all the games and teasing from gemini and aries will want to capture and dominate/conquer.
gemini displays their power mentally while aries does so physically. gem knows which buttons to push to send aries over the edge but aries is strategic too so once aries has gemini where they want them, it’s over. the playful teasing quickly builds & leads into something hot and passionate, perhaps a bit rough or fast. aries loses their mind & the ever-racing mind of gemini goes blank, but in a good way of course.
x capricorn: for caps, i think edging would be their thing. either as something they enjoy or because they’re just good at it. with edging you have to consider timing & delays and capricorns are no strangers to that. they’re also controlling so getting to decide when someone c*ms and being the one to make that happen is like a power trip for them.
and because they like to be the ones in control, i think they’d want to be the ones doing the edging instead of it being done to them because they may not like the idea of repeatedly letting someone have that power over them.
virgos are known to be of service of others & libras are known to be people pleasers, but i can see capricorns combining these two traits in the bedroom. not in a submissive way but in way that displays their skills and competence, showing that they can and know how to make you c*m, and doing so feels like a reward or some sort of an achievement for them. and even if they’re the ones edging someone else, they still get turned on from the theme of delayed gratification.
- omg i feel like i'm corrupting the masses, please forgive me. <3
if you read this until the end, i hope you enjoyed it & thank you so much for reading. ♥︎♥︎♥︎, those hearts are for you.

So I’ve been sitting on my feelings about the BuckTommy breakup and handling of it for a while, trying to get my thoughts in order. And after a while of thinking on it—and the recent Lou interview dropping making me feel like my feelings are valid—kind of made me want to just blurt them all out and hope for the best. So this is that.
Ultimately the entire handling of the BuckTommy breakup feels cruel. And not just cruel in an intentional way, but cruel in a casually, not even given any thought cruelty, which is worse sometimes. And to be honest, I think that’s part of why I’ve been struggling with it so much. (That and the echoes of Magicians season 4, which if you know you know).
What I mean by cruelty is just the lack of any real effort or care put into this storyline, one that they had previously been handled with so much care and concern and were praised (rightly so) for at the time. It’s the way they introduce this Tommy as Abby’s ex thing, which makes hardly any sense at all, but also feels cruel in the intention of laughing at the invisible string of fate theory between them. It’s they way that they’re 6 months anniversary and not only have they not talked about this, but Buck (Evan Buckley) didn’t get him a gift that feels cruel because that feels so wildly out of character for him. It’s the way they had the break up play into some bisexual stereotypes at best and inherently biphobic at worst by having Maddie suggest Abby turned him gay or that Buck needs to “explore” things to figure out what he wants or that Buck “Doesn’t know what pond to jump back into” of it all. (Not to mention the comments from OS about wanting Buck to fuck—which I’m not getting into because I didn’t read it and as a bisexual woman, don’t feel the need to go and try to find something that might upset me more.)
All those reasons are why the breakup itself is cruel to the characters, but it’s also cruel to those of us watching, and especially to anyone and everyone who loved and/or related to the character of Tommy, who we see walk away much much worse off than when we found him. It’s the way the story (intentionally or not) is framing it like a romcom break up – make up – pining storyline which they apparently are not doing according to interviews. It’s the way they didn’t give any sort of closure to Tommy for the character or for the audience.
There’s a reason that people lose themselves in stories—it’s because they follow certain rules and contracts. It’s expected that stories do not match up to real life because while things don’t have bigger meanings in life or they don’t work out according to plan, in stories, everything happens for a reason. Because that’s the whole point of what you’re consuming. And along with that, emotional moments are meant to feel cathartic in a way, at least eventually, because you were able to see the bigger picture, to feel the finality to things, and to really understand what’s being said and what’s happening. This breakup does none of that and actually seems to have been included and rushed for shock value and that to me, is just shitty, lazy writing.
If you were going to break them up and have no desire for any sort of reunion or closure, why not make it intentional? Tommy could be the one who wants marriage and kids and settling down and Buck internally freaks out because theoretically he wants that but maybe it’s too soon and as much as Tommy loves Buck, he’s not going to wait around and hope that Buck feels the same for him because he’s been hurt too many times like that. Or Tommy could be leaving for another state because he’s no longer going to be a firefighter or needs to go for family reasons or gets a job at a different station that he applied for ages ago and he has everything all set up and isn’t going to ask Buck to leave his entire life for Tommy, so they decide to breakup even if it hurts both of them. In either of those cases, it’s sad and devastating, but at least there would be some closure to it and understanding of it for both the characters and the audience and some peace knowing that at least these two are going to be moving toward happiness in whatever way that means for them.
Instead, what we have, is a hail-mary last-second breakup that comes out of nowhere and feels abrupt and crappy in the way we leave Tommy specifically because we might never see him again. And that is the crux of the issue. Because the way this was written, the understanding is that they are going to get back together or reunion or at least have that final closure conversation—because that’s what happens in stories. We see this type of surprise breakups, breakups where they issue is they love each other too much and are afraid to go further (Athena/Bobby and Maddie/Chimney to name two examples we saw in universe) only to eventually fight to be together and realize that if they don’t take a chance they might never know how amazing it is. So the fact that it’s set up to follow this same path while nearly every interview is telling the opposite, again demonstrates that casual cruelty as well as an inherent failure on the writing. If you have to go in interview and explain what it is you wrote or are telling, then you have failed as a writer. It’s really as simple as that.
This breakup doesn’t feel set up or foreshadowed, it just feels like they added it on because they didn’t want to do anything more with it? And that feels incredibly crappy as a decision to so many people who related to Buck and Tommy and them coming out later in life and all those other things. I’m rambling and on my phone and feeling a lot of things that I can’t fully express right now, but the long and short of it: If this was always intended to be the final time we see Tommy, this breakup is even crueler than intended.

HUP, EPR, and Bell’s Theorem
Abstract
An educational document discussing the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, the EPR (Einstein- Podolsky-Rosen) Paradox, and Bell’s Theorem, written for an audience without a background in physics, but with their head still screwed on right.
1 Introduction
Ah, quantum mechanics. A bizarre theory which unfortunately describes our physical world exceed- ingly well. Einstein didn’t get it. Bohr didn’t get it. I don’t get it. And soon, you won’t get it either. As the saying goes, the more you know about quantum mechanics, the less you understand it.
I will be skipping around in terms of topics covered in undergraduate quantum mechanics courses to prepare you for the actual beast, Entanglement.
Entanglement, the property of quantum systems to remain correlated even when separated, is a concept which has transformed from a worrisome byproduct of a thought experiment [1] into a cornerstone of quantum mechanics itself. What is a quantum mechanics? Google is your friend, my dear reader. My time with you is limited„ and I cannot teach you the alphabet to make you read Shakespeare. I can only explain what you directly need to understand this article. Anything else shall be your homework, and if I am feeling kind at the end, I will provide a list of accessible resources on learning quantum mechanics the RIGHT way.
As we dive into the frankly confusing world of entanglement, it is vital that you remember one thing– A quantum particle is described by a wave function, Ψ. This wave function is a solution to the Schrodinger equation.
This is what they mean when they say something is both a particle and a wave; It’s behavior can be described by a special kind of wave equation, which we all know and love as the Schrodinger Wave Equation. But that’s not important right now. I’ll explain more if I need to. We need to get to HUP.
2 Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle
Formulated by Werner Heisenberg in 1927, the Uncertainty Principle is an indomitable tenet in the field of quantum mechanics. Its premise is simple. The more precisely a particle’s momentum is determined, the less precisely is its position. In one dimension, this can be summarized with the following mathematical statement: ∆x∆p ≤ 2
Here, ∆x is the standard deviation or “spread” of the position x, while ∆p is the standard deviation of the momentum p. As the spread of one quantity decreases, the other must increase in order to maintain the inequality. I will not bother proving the Principle in full, but I have Heisenberg’s original proof in the references.
Is that it?
Ummmmm, no. An important thing to remember about HUP is that it is not exclusive to x and p. HUP applies to any two quantum mechanical operators, A, B, which do not commute with each other i.e. [A, B] = AB − BA = 0. But that’s all mathematical nonsense, Min! What does it really mean?
Fine! I’m only doing this because it will be useful when we get to measurements in the EPR paradox and Bell theorems. In order to understand what “not commuting” means in the physical sense, let’s use our favorites, position and momentum, as an example. In quantum mechanics, xˆ andpˆ are referred to as the position and momentum operators respectively. (Why the little hats? Firstly, they’re cute, and secondly, well, you’ll see.) The whole point of calling them operators is that they act on wave functions. And in the crudest sense possible (please don’t try this at home, folks), hitting an operator on a wave function and taking the expectation value, gives a measurement of the quantum mechanical system.
There is about three semesters of quantum mechanical education I’m waving off right now, but bear with me. When we act the momentum operator on the system, in some sense we extract the momentum. Same thing for position. However, the whole deal about x and p is that they do not commute. So, the order in which you conduct the measurements absolutely does matter. First measuring x and then p would give you a different answer than first measuring p and then x. This is because the very act of measuring a quantum state changes it. That’s right! It changes. This makes all the difference when you consider the standard deviation of a bunch of measurements. If my memory of introductory quantum mechanics serves me right, after about three pages of algebra you arrive at the familiar position-momentum uncertainty principle.
The moral of the story is that the non-commutativity of these operators manifests as a sort of granularity in the accuracy of measurements you can make on a physical system. This granularity is retained between any other kinds of non-commuting measurements you can make!
On second thought, do you really need this? Probably not. But, the algebra of uncertainty principles is a pet project to me. Especially the strangest of them all, the energy-time uncertainty principle. Enough on that! Here’s the main takeaway (other than the actual HUP statement) that you need from this section:
Making a measurement on a state changes its wave function. No exceptions. None. The detached observer is not a reality in the quantum mechanical world.
3 Spin
I realized that the following sections will not make any sense if you don’t at least know what spin is. So, let’s make a short pit-stop at Spin City to learn about this nonsensical physical quantity.
We’re all aware of angular momentum– its the rotational analog of linear momentum (which we talked about the previous section). We all agree that it is a property related to the motion of an object, right? WRONG! Sometime in the 1900s (Seriously, 20th Century Physicists should chill out), it was discovered this angular momentum from motion i.e. “orbital” angular momentum, as it was called in the atomic physics context it was first described, does not account for all the angular momentum of a particle. Long story short, the remaining angular momentum, which is intrinsic to a particle, is now called Spin. Every fundamental particle has a particular value of spin, which, in quantum mechanical jargon, is the eigenvalue of the spin operator.
For understanding the following sections, we really only need to care about spin-1/2 particles, which are lovingly called fermions, and are the building blocks of all ordinary matter. The shining feature of spin-1/2 particles is that their spin can either be +1 or −1 , which is often referred to as spin-up (↑) and spin-down (↓) respectively.
Physically, the up or down comes from whether the measured spin is along the axis it is measured, or opposite to it. Yes, spin is a vector, so it does have three independent components in the three spatial directions, but it is convention to consider the z-component of the spin for calculations and experiments. Any references to up and down in the next sections are along the z-direction.
Oh, and one more thing, spin-0 particles have no intrinsic spin. This will be important when we encounter the EPR Paradox.
4 EPR Paradox
After skipping a whole bunch of most-likely important concepts in the study of quantum mechanics we arrive at the EPR paradox.
The EPR paradox is a thought experiment first described in the groundbreaking paper [1] by Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen in 1935. Einstein was quite vocally a hater, and the EPR paradox was proposed as evidence that the description of reality provided by quantum mechanics is incomplete. Reality doesn’t care, of course, and the EPR Paradox isn’t really a paradox. In fact, it is the foundation of entanglement– a magnificent, very real feature of reality which spans black holes, quantum computers and even my field of research: Entanglement in elementary particle physics.
In fact, I’m so self-centered that the example we will use to illustrate the EPR paradox is from particle physics. Just kidding, my explanation follows Chapter 12 in Griffiths’ Introduction to Quantum Mechanics, and is a simplified version credited to David Bohm
EPRB Paradox
Suppose a pion (funky particle with spin-0) at rest, decays to an electron and positron which fly off into opposite directions. Since the pion has spin-0, conservation of angular momentum dictates that the electron and positron occupy the following spin configuration.
√(1/2) (|↑↓⟩−|↓↑⟩)
BE NOT AFRAID of the mathematical jumpscare. The fancy bracket |·⟩ is what’s called a “ket”, and is used to denote the state of a quantum system. All the expression says is that either the electron is
spin-up (+1) and the positron is spin-down (−1) or vice-versa, because the total spin of the system 22
must add up to 0. (Since the initial state is spin zero, the system must stay spin-zero even after the decay occurs. That’s what angular momentum conservation is all about.) We don’t know which combination we will get, but it must be one of the above. Measuring the spin of one of the particles will automatically tell us what the spin of the other particle is. This means that the spins of the electron and positron are correlated. In modern terms, such a state is called entangled.
Now, let’s pretend that these particles fly off in opposite directions, until say, they are several light years apart. What would happen if we found the electron and measured its spin to be +1 ? We instantly know that the positron’s spin is −1 . This is obvious. Why are we mad about this?
Naturally, we may think that the electron really was spin-up from the moment it was created and it was only that quantum mechanics did not know until we made a measurement. But by the principles of quantum mechanics, neither particle had a definite spin, until we made a measurement, causing the wave function to “collapse” and instanteously produce the spin of the positron which is lights years away!
The EPR bros were NOT having it. Einstein famously called this phenomenon “spooky action at a distance”. They stated that the quantum mechanical standpoint must be wrong! The electron and positron must have had well-defined spins from their creation, even if quantum mechanics does not know it. Quantum mechanics is not a complete description of reality and there must be some hidden variables which describe a physical system that we do not yet know.
The fundamental assumption guiding the EPR argument is that no information can propagate faster than light. This the principle of locality. In order to appease this, we can say that the wave function collapsed at some finite velocity and is not instantaneous. However, this violates conservation– If we measured the positron spin as well before the information of collapse reached it, there is a 50–50 chance that both particles are spin-up, which means the system has total spin-1. Preposterous! You can mess with anything you want in this universe, but you don’t mess with conservation laws. What do we do now?
Okay, let’s calm down. The theorists may say whatever they want, but experiment doesn’t lie. Experiment tells us that in these cases, spin is perfectly correlated. The wave function collapse is instantaneous. That’s crazy. Call your mom and tell her you want to go home. The EPR Bros are frightening you— Quantum Mechanics is NOT local so it is NOT complete.
...Except. It is. Enter, Bell’s Theorem.
5 Bell’s Theorem
Now, what’s the situation? The EPR gang is not happy. I’m not happy. You’re not happy. Is quantum mechanics wrong? No, silly! EPR said it themselves: they think it’s merely incomplete. So, in order to completely describe a quantum mechanical state, you not only need the wave function Ψ, you also need some unknown, hidden variable λ. Lots of hidden variable theories were proposed after the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paper, but none of them ever gained traction. It was still a respectable area of study until 1964, when J.S. Bell proved that any local (Remember locality from the last section?) hidden variable theory is incompatible with quantum mechanics.
I’ll spare you the details of Bell’s work, dear reader. One thought experiment in an essay is gruesome enough. (It is also getting quite late and I still didn’t code my calculations. I have spent far too much time on this already.)
Bell’s proof involves the wonderful use of probability, and the barest assumptions that can be made about local hidden variable theories. Basically, in any local hidden variable theory, the probabilities of various outcomes are related by what’s known as a Bell inequality. If EPR’s conjecture is right, and there really are hidden variables we don’t know about, then any physical system must obey its Bell inequality.
Except, there have been various experiments since the 1960s confirming that Bell’s inequality is indeed violated. This came as a rude shock to scientists as it is not fun to learn that reality is very much nonlocal. It was all fun and games when this was all merely a mathematical artifact, but nonlocality felt like a gateway drug to a much grimmer violation.
Causality
Bell inequality violations, no matter how surprising, are merely wonderful correlations between two sets of otherwise random data. Sure, the measurement of the spin of the electron affects the positron, but it does not cause it in any meaningful way. The person measuring the electron spin cannot use this collapse of the wave function to send a message to the person with the positron, since they don’t control the outcome of the experiment. They can decide whether to measure the electron at all, but the other person only has access to the positron’s spin and cannot tell whether the electron has been measured or not.
Phew! This sort of nonlocal influence does not transmit any energy or information, so it is exempt from the speed of light. Meanwhile, causal influences, those which do transmit information or energy, cannot travel faster than light. According to special relativity, if this was possible then, there are reference frames in which information can propagate backwards through time. And that, my dear reader, is what we call a big nono. Since the EPR paradox does not imply that causality is violated, we can lie uncomfortably on our bed of nonlocal but causal theory of quantum mechanics.
So rest easy, quantum mechanics is weird, but safe. Entanglement is not a fairytale, but also not the boogeyman. It’s probably more scared of you than you of it. Just give it some time. More answers will follow.
What Do I Do Now?
So, you want to know more? Or curl up in a ball and never think about this again? Either is fine. I won’t judge. If your answer is the former, here are some resources to guide you through the thickets of quantum mechanics.

Any tips for artist tryna improve their art? Love ur art and would love to some tips and tricks of yours! ^^
BOOHOO;; THANK YOU!! THAT'S SUCH A NICE COMPLIMENT TO ME;; Like what do you mean you like what I do enough that you want to hear some tips from me!! DON'T MAKE ME CRY FHDJKSA
I really really tried to make things short for you but I don't think I was very successful dkhkdh but I hope you find them useful!! <3
Tracing (not the stealing kind):
Tracing is not bad when it's used to study, some of my college assignments were copying renaissance artists' sketches! Hell, when I was a kid I used to trace Undertale fanart I liked and look where I'm at fhjkads
When you study other people's styles, you can actually gather a lot of information like line weight or proportions, colors, even stylization. So get your favorite artists' pieces and really look at them for a long time, draw them, then apply what you learn into your own art. Just be careful to not steal or claim something as your own!
Focus on one area at a time:
Now you have to chose one area to practice on. You could tackle on many at a time but I find it easier to pinpoint what I would like to do first and then move on to the next thing.
There's a lot of subjects you can go into like anatomy, rendering, backgrounds, but you just have to find one area in them and get a lot of references.
For anatomy you can go into: muscle movement, figure drawing, body parts in different angles.
Rendering: Shading, lighting, color theory.
Backgrounds: Point perspective, different camera angles, landscapes or detailed room scenes.
Don't overwhelm yourself either! Take one thing at a time!
Dear god get a reference board:
Pinterest really helped me find styles I wanted to study and anatomy tips to incorporate in my art. It really relates to my first point but having an actual compilation of how things look next to you really helps. It also helps keeping them organized like so:
Do The Thing™️ anyway:
I know it's repetitive but it genuinely works you have to trust me, practice does make progress. Stop letting fear hold you back on compositions you think are great or believe you don't have "enough skills yet" to work on them. You will never get enough skills if you don't try.
My college classes forced me to pick up watercolors and paint backgrounds and I learned a lot just from trying it out. Make mistakes!! Have fun! That's how you truly improve on your skills!
Be patient and loving with yourself (and your art!):
I cannot stress enough how important it is to love your art in order to grow. You NEED to learn how to be patient with your art AND your journey because it will never compare to anyone's!! Art is not a competition nor a race, it's a medium to express yourself through a process you like. That's why there's millions of art styles and why each of them cater to a different audience!
Once you do, you can actually ask important questions like "Did I like the process? What can I improve on next time? What's something I liked I want to continue incorporating into my art?", and it helps with self esteem too.
And last but not least:
Have fun!!
Art is a journey of self-discovery, it's not meant to be something that weighs you down or makes you feel bad when you're not working on it. Take constant breaks! No matter how short or how long! If you get tired or incredibly frustrated at it, then it's probably best you take a break from it!
Thank you for listening and supporting me!! I love you!!

Spirits, Psychics, and Sensing Each Other
This is a compilation and analysis of evidence in the mp100 anime of how, when, and whether spirits and espers can sense each other. As in: spirits sensing spirits and espers, and espers sensing espers and spirits. This is an anime only analysis, because it was easier for me to skim through. I’ve been working on this during the hours when the internet is out. My notes got fairly long so i put them under the cut.
The main points/conclusions:
It seems that in order to sense if someone’s psychic, you have to be purposefully and actively looking. (this applies to both spirits and other psychics)
The ability to determine an esper’s strength lies somewhere between unreliable and nonexistent. There are only 3 cases of accurate judgement of strength before seeing the esper’s abilities, and these are: Ritsu and Mob’s judgements of Shimazaki, and Shimazaki’s judgement of Mob. And the first two honestly could just be vibes based.
Some spirits have the ability to be seen by normal people and some don't. There doesn't seem to be a rule to this, but it's not dependent on strength.
Before going to the 7th division, Teru is under the false belief that Claw is made up solely of artificial espers.
Not much evidence on this, but Matsuo seems to be the only esper that can tell when a spirit is possessing someone.
Mob’s perception of how strong or weak spirits are is skewed.
Unhinged Theory 1: Shimazaki’s assumption about Reigen (esper powerful enough to make his presence disappear) could actually be true about Mob.
Unhinged Theory 2: Ritsu has the potential to be a telepath, and may have some Mob-specific telepathic senses already
1.01
Mob about Ceiling Crasher: “But the spirit back there really was a lower-level spirit.”
Mob outside Honeido Tunnel: “I can sense the presence of a very powerful spirit further down.”
Mob inside Honeido Tunnel: “Master, don’t you feel something? … No, I’m talking about auras. … Feel would be an understatement. There are twelve… eighteen… No… even more right nearby. Ah! Looks like we’ve been completely surrounded. They’re going to attack us now.”
The Boss Spirit about Reigen: “There’s a powerful forcefield? How could this power be coming from someone like him? Crap! I mistook him for a wimp! … (after salt punch) So you are a fake…”
Mob about bigger spirit: “I thought it was a little weird that the aura I felt before coming in here hadn’t disappeared yet. … That evil spirit wasn’t very powerful.”
Notes: Ceiling Crasher didn’t sense any danger from Mob. Reigen could see Ceiling Crasher and Boss, but not the other spirits in Honeido Tunnel. Mob calls the multi-eyed spirit powerful before he exorcises it, and not very powerful after. There are many things this could suggest, including but not limited to: Mob lied either before or after (to freak out Reigen or to calm him down), Mob is using different measures for each statement (powerful by your standards, weak by mine [or the other way around depending on how much denial he’s in at the moment]), Mob doesn’t trust his own judgement and just thinks something is weak if he’s able to exorcise it (Reigen, what did you do to this kid)
1.02
When asked if he senses anything: “Just slightly…” A second later after !!! face: “It’s here. Nearby.”
After tracking the spirit for awhile: “The spirit’s angry.”
Scent-Ghoul: “Psychic brat… how dare you trap me.” … “Crap. I underestimated the psychic!”
Notes: Scent-Ghoul could make himself visible to ordinary people. Mob can sense the emotions (or at least anger) of spirits without them being in direct view/exorcisable range. Scent-Ghoul clearly couldn’t sense enough of Mob’s power to think him dangerous; could he sense him at all, or was it only being trapped in the building that tipped him off?
1.03
It takes fucking forever for Mob and Dimple to figure each other out. Mob doesn’t realize Dimple has powers of any kind until after Dimple starts yelling about them not working. As if he didn’t even notice the powers while they were being used. Even at this point, he assumes Dimple is a psychic, and not a spirit possessing someone.
Mob, pissed: “Make me laugh with your psychic powers.” Dimple, realizing: “So you have similar powers… I thought I picked a peaceful religious order that’d cause the least bloodshed, but you’re in my way, brat. I’ll have to get rid of the outsider that brings chaos to this environment.” Mob: Thank goodness. You’re not a person. Thank goodness the one who said something as horrible as ‘get a clue’ was an evil spirit.”
Dimple: “My followers! Do not let him leave alive!” <- Mob identifies this as “A strong commanding signal”
As soon as Mob goes 100% Rage, Dimple: “To think that you were such a powerful esper… No wonder the smile mask didn’t work.” Dimple proceeds to get increasingly surprised with every attack of his that doesn’t work and every attack of Mob’s that does.
Notes: I am Thoroughly unsure what tipped off Mob that Dimple was a spirit and not a psychic. Did he take a closer look in that moment and sense something? Did he just assume that a living person wouldn’t say something that evil? Was it something in the way Dimple said it that didn’t come through in translation? Furthermore: evidence that Mob can’t sense when a spirit is possessing someone. Evidence that when spirits are possessing someone, they can’t sense psychics, OR that spirits in general have trouble sensing either psychics or Mob specifically.
1.04
It’s funny that Mob straight up didn’t recognize Dimple
Dimple about Reigen: “I don’t feel any spiritual power from him at all.”
Teru about Mob: ‘What’s with this guy? His presence barely registers, so I didn’t even notice him.’
Notes: The implications of that last bit! Is Teru talking about figurative presences, like ‘X lights up a room and Y is so unnoticeable we accidentally left him behind’ type shit, or can he literally sense all people with his powers? If it’s the second one, then why does Mob register even below normal people? Is it because of how thoroughly he suppresses his powers, or is what Shimazaki assumes about Reigen (powerful enough to erase his presence) actually somewhat true about Mob? [I’ve connected the dots. I’ve connected them.]
1.05
Dimple: “Man, what a surprise. I guess there are espers other than you, Shigeo.” <- bitch, you’ve met other espers. Mogami rocked your shit. Don’t patronize this kid
Teru: “Impossible… Are you a natural? There’s another like me?” <- Sir! How Do You Know This! Can you sense the difference between natural and artificial espers? Are you just assuming because he’s a kid/not attacking you/not Claw?
Teru: “What is the creepy-looking ball of energy next to you?” <- SIR. Have You Never Seen A Ghost Before.
Teru: “I erased that thing with my Psycho Wave. From the core, so there wouldn’t be a single shred left.” <- You have either met a ghost before, or you made this up just now. I realize this isn’t relevant to the current discussion, but like. Bro. What is going on inside your head.
1.06
Mob: “Come to think of it, I don’t sense anything from my master. But that’s because his powers are spiritual, not psychic.” <- Did Reigen tell him this? Did he assume this? Did he come up with this just now, either to maintain his denial after meeting another esper, or to cover for what he just told Tome? Many questions.
Mob about Koyama: “There… That’s an adult esper. What is this feeling? It’s kind of sickening.”
Notes: None of the Awakening Lab kids pick up that Ritsu isn’t an esper yet. Skill issue? Or evidence that being able to sense other espers isn’t a universal esper trait. Mob’s comment about Koyama is fascinating considering he never brings it up again or makes comments like this about other espers. Maybe all Claw espers feel off. Maybe Koyama just has rancid vibes. I’m 95% sure it has to do with emotions.
1.07
Thinking about how Dimple instantly clocked Ritsu as newly psychic and said “The fact that you can see me is proof.”
Ritsu did not clock Teru as psychic until Teru outright referenced psychic powers. He does not clock Teru’s strength, either.
Reigen does not see the spirit he brings to the con artists.
Mob Did Not Notice that Ritsu’s had powers for like. a week. He didn’t notice Dimple in Ritsu’s room while he was eating dinner, either. Maybe it’s because they’re both weak sauce right now.
Also: nobody is noticing Koyama on the roof. Not Ritsu, not Mob, not Teru, not Dimple.
Notes: All around, this episode is evidence for: you need to be actively looking for an esper to recognize an esper.
1.08
Mob does not notice Dimple possessing Ritsu. Mob does not notice Ritsu’s powers until Ritsu uses them to push him back. Koyama does not notice Mob is psychic until Mob’s superspeed lunge attempt at Ritsu reaquirement.
Those last two are interesting because both come AFTER a visual-to-the-audience flare of power. Mob’s even accompanied a rapidly increasing percentage.
After slamming his powers into Koyama’s barrier, Mob recognizes him as “the adult esper I saw before”. <- Was this a ‘hey i recognize that hoodie’ moment, or a ‘i recognize the feel of those powers’ moment
Teru about Claw: “They aren’t as powerful as us Naturals, but if you underestimate them, their sheer numbers will easily crush you.” <- Teru is under the false belief that every esper in Claw is an artificial esper. They have literally only sent groups of weak sauce after him.
1.09
Ritsu seems to think verbally denying they have psychic powers is something that could actually work. <- buddy. BUDDY. Even assuming nobody there can sense you’re an esper, do you think these guys don’t communicate? That they don’t do research? Do you think they’re just gonna go “oh whoopsies! i can’t believe the kids we very specifically targeted are not actually espers! let’s just return you home to where you can call the police and tell them all about us, including what we look like because we didn’t hide our faces!” okay sorry, not the point, moving on.
1.10
Matsuo about Dimple: “It’s not every day a ghost wanders in here.” Dimple’s reaction: “Someone dangerous just showed up.”
Ritsu does not seem to have any clue to Shou’s strength before fighting him. Or he’s just stupid.
Nobody seems to know Shou is there when he’s invisible.
Notes: Okay. So. Matsuo showing up is a good point of contrast to 1.03 when Mob and Dimple took forever to suss each other out. Matsuo IMMEDIATELY identifies Dimple as a possessing spirit. Is this an ability specific to his power set? Signs (1.03, 2.04) point to yes! In light of this, Dimple’s reaction of thinking him dangerous could be a sensing powers situation OR a ‘he must be dangerous if he figured me out that quick’ situation.
1.11
Reigen would not be pulling any of this off if even a single person could sense whether he’s an esper or not. Everybody (claw lackeys, teru) just assumes he is.
1.12
Literally nobody recognized Mob’s powers going to Reigen.
Reigen: “Is this an evil spirit?” <- why are you saying this like you’re amazed. you have seen many before. you have in fact seen several in the last 20 minutes.
Dimple: “Whoa! Why are you able to see me when I’m not in my visible mode?” <- Dimple. According to the broccoli arc, you don’t HAVE a visible-to-non-espers mode. That was a significant point in it all. And the weakest esper here (Ritsu) is following your movements. You are currently as visible as you can get.
Dimple at Reigen: “You awakened to psychic powers, didn’t you?” <- let’s take a second and contrast this to Dimple’s 1.04 remark: “I don’t feel any spiritual power from him at all”. Either Dimple is now sensing spiritual power from Reigen (incredibly unlikely) or it does in fact take some amount of purposeful looking to sense somebody’s power. In which case, Dimple didn’t bother this time because he falsely assumed if Reigen could see him, he was psychic.
2.01
Mob about Wriggle Wriggle: “It’s rather weak, but I do sense an aura.” … “It was just possessing the scarecrow, so it probably couldn’t do much harm.” … “Oh, that would be the spirit’s true form.”
Wriggle Wriggle about Reigen: “But it appears your friend is as ordinary as they come.”
Mob: “Since destroying the vines doesn’t hurt the spirit itself, it must not be possessing them. It’s controlling living things like a remote control car.” <- possessing = being in the thing; controlling = using powers on the thing. Mob couldn’t tell the difference.
2.02
Client: “I’ve always been susceptible to spirits. I often attract ghosts and other strange phenomena near me. Even as we speak, there’s something next to me…”
Shinra: “There definitely is. I see it.” <- unsure how true this is
Mob: “It’s the spirit of a middle-aged man.”
Client: “And lately, I’ve been feeling a really bad aura.” … “But then I realized that the reason this eerie feeling has gotten worse lately is because of the sudden spread of urban legends around this city.” <- how did you realize that?
Reigen: “Mob, is Dimple around?” Mob: “Dimple, you’re being summoned.” <- i really do love that there are multiple levels to sensing spirits, and we pretty much only know this because Mob’s got the premium package. Reigen recently purchased a Dimple specific upgrade to his basic package, but that upgrade is only advanced, not premium. also. hold on. why is it dimple specific
Mob: “Well, it’s like the client said. Something’s weird about this town. There might actually be something here.”
Dimple: “Talk about pressure… Her aura’s stabbing me left and right.”
Dimple: “That’s a monster born from rumors. You can’t classify her as real or fake. The imagination of the masses, and their fear and curiosity is what gave birth to her. Her looks and her strength was all decided by humans!” <- how do you know this
Shinra: And since we know about the Dragger, we won’t be able to exorcise her. … Powers used in fear only empower its source. My spiritual powers did nothing. She grows by absorbing the powers of those who fear her.”
Why did Mob not notice that Dash Granny was a living person? Is it perhaps because someone has spent years telling him things like ‘oh yeah, there’s definitely a spirit here, it’s just too powerful for you’? *squints at reigen*
2.03
Reigen: “Mob, do you sense anything?” Mob: “Yes, though it’s faint.”
Mob, upon seeing it: “That’s… a living person.” He then accurately tracks it.
Reigen: “You sense any spirits?” Mob: “Faintly…”
Notes: There’s a distinction made between spirits and evil spirits, and both Mob and Dimple can tell the difference.
2.04
Ghost: “Here comes another psychic. What should we do with them, Dimple-san?” Dimple: “Probably just another fake.” <- very wrong. ass out of u and me kind of assumption. could you not check, or did you just not bother to?
Mob, when Minori is introduced: “Right now, I’m not sensing anything.”
Shinra: I do sense a faint sinister presence though… And extremely nearby.” <- it’s dimple
Mogami knew someone had strong powers when they stopped him, but he couldn’t tell who until Mob drew attention to himself.
Notes: Not a single psychic in the place, including Mob and Dimple, could tell that Minori was possessed until Mogami showed himself. Further evidence that most psychics can’t sense when a spirit is possessing someone. But as soon as Mogami revealed his presence, Dimple recognized and identified him. This is fascinating! This doesn’t only suggest that spirits have their own signature recognizable to other spirits, but since Dimple presumably last saw Mogami when he was alive, it suggests that Mogami had a signature of some kind when he was alive, and that it didn’t change to a significant degree when he died. Do psychics then have signatures? Are the signatures recognizable to other psychics, or only to spirits?
2.09
Mob can do some kind of radar thing with his powers that gives him the closest espers. <- Inquiring minds would like to know: what’s the range on that? Can he sense espers of any power level? Can he tell their power level? If someone he knew was in range, would he be able to tell who it was? Many questions.
Everybody constantly and thoroughly underestimating each other.
Shimazaki: “The thing is, even though I can’t see, I can predict people’s movements. But even if I’m hit, I really have nothing to worry about.”
Teru: “I saw the broadcast and rushed here, and then I sensed you two in this park.” <- again, the implication that Teru can sense regular people as well as psychics.
2.10
Shou: “Ritsu, your latent abilities far surpass your brother’s. … Life won’t be any fun if you don’t tell yourself that. The same goes for me. I’m more powerful than my dad…” <- fun response to trauma. pretty clearly reveals that he has no means of accurately sensing power levels
Ritsu about Minegishi: “His aura is really peculiar.” <- The first occurrence of Ritsu saying or showing that he can sense other espers in any way at all, and he blesses us with some qualitative data! He doesn’t just sense this guy, he notices something different about him! Now I wonder what’s causing that difference… is it just the type of powers Minegishi has, or something else?
The guys who could track down a sleeping Mob. <- Is this an ability specific to them, or could all espers track each other if they wanted to? I’m pretty sure this is an Antenna Team thing in the manga, but my question remains the same.
Kurosaki: “Something doesn’t feel right up ahead… There’s something there. … Here it comes!” <- nobody else sensed shit. either she’s the only one that’s trying, or her clairvoyance is about more than just choices. also i love her.
2.11
Toichirou: “Shou is here.” <- did he sense him or see him?
Ritsu about Shimazaki: “I can tell at a glance… He’s really strong!” <- more qualitative data! Literal First Time in the Entire show that an esper Accurately senses the strength of another esper!
Claw lackey: “I-Is this kid a natural esper?” <- safe assumption when he’s clearly not Claw, but i’m putting it here anyway.
Shimazaki: “Everyone here is an esper. Cut everything else out.” <- Accompanied with imagery showing that he’s normally able to sense/predict even animals and bugs.
Shimazaki about Mob: “Something with tremendous energy is heading this way. … How amusing. Let’s see whose abilities are greater!”
Shimazaki about Reigen: ‘Impossible! I couldn’t sense him at all.’ <- it’s because you tuned out all non-espers, you clown.
Shimazaki: “There’s an esper who can actually make his presence disappear?” <- Maybe. Not that guy, though. Clown.
Mob: “Shishou, he’s rather strong. He’s dangerous, so please step back.” <- The Second Accurate Assessment of Strength, reaffirming the first.
Shimazaki: “More importantly, this kid… is on a whole other level.” <- Third Accurate Assessment of an esper’s strength! We are on a roll! Really interested to know if Shimazaki would be getting the same reading if Mob were not actively pissed right now.
2.12
Mob: “That umbrella…” Dimple: “Yeah, it’s shrouded in some insane power.”
Mob, sucking up Serizawa’s energy: “I can sense what you’re feeling. Such a sad energy…”
Toichirou accurately identified Sakurai’s gun. I wonder if, since it’s cursed, it carries his power’s signature.
Toichirou at Reigen: “I don’t sense any power from you.”
2.13
Serizawa: “The president’s aura is gone.”
Shou: “My dad’s aura didn’t disappear. It changed. My dad mentioned before that he picked up the habit of only awakening when put under a lot of stress.”
Notes: Serizawa was tracking a specific aura and couldn’t recognize a change. Shou knew to expect a change, so was able to notice it. The fact that such a drastic change in Toichirou’s aura occurs at all is fascinating, but that it occurs under specific conditions? Is this applicable to other espers? You would think it would be applicable to Mob and his ???% state, but as we’ll see when we get to the confession arc, that is not the case.
How the hell did they find Mob in all that broccoli
3.01
Mob: “I wonder if it’s called a deep-seated grudge… There’s a lot of really bad things swirling in it. It’ll probably get pretty dangerous if we leave it alone.”
Serizawa: “I mean… I can’t imagine it being anything but a cursed doll.”
Mob: “Serizawa-san is very powerful.”
Mob: “I didn’t realize he was being possessed by one so large.”
Serizawa: “No, I’m pretty sure… That’s his own living wraith.” <- not taking this bit seriously since it’s technically anime only if i remember right
3.02
Amakusa: “I sense a very faint presence of a demonic aura from there!”
Serizawa: “I do actually sense some weird energy from there.”
Amakusa: “The atmosphere in here has transformed.”
Serizawa: “Ah… So it’s basically like a normal exorcism.”
3.03
Mob at Dimple: “So the reason you’re stronger now is you stole some of the energy from the broccoli.”
3.04
Minegishi was able to sense that the root came from the broccoli without touching it. “It’s stealing the energy from all the plants in the city.” might be more a deduction than a sensing thing.
Dimple about creating a broccoli body: “Because the believers wouldn’t be able to see me if I remained a spirit.” <- this is what i was talking about in the 1.12 note about dimple’s ‘visible mode’.
3.05
Mob: “These roots are dangerous…” <- visually, it appears that he got the sense that it wanted to eat him. Which it does!
Mob: “My powers… are being sucked away.” <- Dimple says he should have noticed earlier, but tbh mob’s got such a wealth of power, it’s not surprising it took a while to notice
Dimple: “Wow… I thought we already took most of your powers… But I guess you’ve still got some left.”
Dimple: ‘But you should be at your limit soon… The tremendous power that we sucked from him is flowing into me through the Divine Tree.’
Dimple: ‘I- I can feel his rage. W- Wait, wait… That bastard still… He still has this much power left?’
Notes: pretty sure that until the end bit, Dimple wasn’t basing his estimations on how much power Mob had left on his ability to sense Mob in any way, but more in a ‘holy shit, i’ve already absorbed this much power, he’s got to be close to empty’ way
3.06
The crowd can see Mob’s powers. Can normal people always see psychic powers (including the colors/patterns) when they’re being used? Or is it only when the powers are strong? Or maybe they can see them right now because of the brainwashing?
Dimple: ‘I don’t feel any power from Shigeo. He’s totally empty and defenseless. Did the Divine Tree suck his energy dry? No. A moment ago, Shigeo was releasing energy like a popped balloon.’ <- this is only after he got frightened, hit Mob, and Mob got thrown away easily. It’s pretty clear he actively checked, and while strength levels are pretty clearly hard to gauge accurately, there’s no mistaking ‘zero’.
3.07
Ritsu about the sound that only telepaths should be able to hear: “Even I can faintly hear it.” <- Sir. I am Looking at you. Intently.
Ritsu: “Even my head starts to hurt.” <- the cutscenes that show other espers clutching their heads make me think this is a normal reaction of a non-telepath. doesn’t cancel out ritsu’s first statement. Maybe the Shiratori brothers were mistaken about only telepaths being able to hear the sound, as opposed to all espers. Maybe I need to become an eventual-telepath-ritsu truther. Who knows.
3.10
Teru recognizes when Shigeo is about to explode.
Toichirou: “I’ll go by myself. The target can’t be taken lightly.” Joseph: “Is the target someone you know?” Toichirou: “I can feel his power… growing even stronger.”
3.11
Okay. I know it’s anime only. But Ritsu instantly Knowing when Mob goes ???% is just. So Good. The implications! Is this something he could do even before his powers awakening? Did it only come after? If before, did he Know when ???% came out in 1.05? If after, did he Know in 1.08 or 2.05? Or were those instances obscured by their circumstances? Is this his first time Knowing? Also, How can he do this? It can’t be a unique signature within Mob’s powers, or Toichirou wouldn’t have recognized him, right? Maybe this is a sign of Ritsu’s latent telepathy [I’ve connected the dots. I’ve connected them]

If programming isn’t real then what happened to me. If programming isn’t real why do I have the conditioned responses due to what happened. If programming isn’t real then why am I the way I am. There’s literally no other explanation.
Basically every alleged symptom of the DID programming process described by the likes of Fritz Springmeier and Cisco Wheeler is a likely symptom of something else. Many are potential symptoms of other abuses, including corporal punishment, psychological and emotional manipulation, emotional neglect, and the like. These types of abuses have can have far more profound impacts than many of us realize, especially if we grow up in an environment where they're normalized or where adults assure us that they don't count as "real" abuse.
If anything, the DID alter programming myth functions as a way to scapegoat the trauma from being raised in environments like this onto secret cults of devil worshipers so these kinds of people can go on pretending their own childrearing methods aren't inherently abusive.
Now what I'm going to talk about next, I'm not saying that it necessarily applies to you, but I also can't rule it out, and I figure it's good to mention it in a general sense.
At least some of the alleged symptoms of DID programming are symptoms of growing up autistic in a world that hates autistic people. (I'm not saying that you're necessarily autistic, but I can't rule it out, either.) Many autistic people are put through a cruel conditioning process called applied behavior analysis, which is supposed to make them act like allistic people. Autistic people who can't pretend they're allistic are often shunned and bullied, and develop people-pleasing habits as a consequence. This type of conditioning was never carried out on purpose, and yet it was very much carried out.
We can also internalize shitty things people say both to and around us. (Like adults calling certain types of people worthless and undeserving - but whoops, turns out you're one of those kinds of people.) We can also pick up on implicit messages in media that aren't good for our self-worth (like when a trait you have is overwhelmingly depicted in villains, or when people like you are never depicted as attractive). This can impact us in numerous ways, including exacerbating people-pleasing tendencies.
This thread over here mentions some sources of trauma that are often overlooked.
Editing to add in case this post gets reblogged: This anon chimed in with some excellent points, too.
I think it's a safe guess that your life sucked, and that you were not treated well. One way or another, you were hurt very badly, and you did not get the care or comfort you deserved. But saying that your trauma symptoms can only be explained by the alter programming conspiracy theory is like saying the weather patterns of the Little Ice Age could only be explained by witches. Conspiracy theories appear to explain things, but what they're actually doing is offering false explanations in order to further bigger narratives that target a lot of innocent people.
For more information on the origins of the alter programming conspiracy theory, and how we KNOW it's a conspiracy theory, see this post.

sorry your blog crashed but I hope you get it back! ! My Q would be, do you think, in theory if jikook are together and stay together for more years to come, it would be a problem if it came out they were a couple and they entered the military together?
I had been thinking they might have .. “separated” in some ways at the beginning of ch2, at least Jimin seemed to be putting some space between them (from what we saw outwardly ig) and perhaps they’d been practicing some distance before the ms service, and then after military they could decide where to go from there. BUT then I saw the ep 1&2 of AYS and perhaps decided that wasn’t the case 😂 as you wouldn’t cuddle and play about like that with someone you’re trying to put a bit of space between ahaha - and also I think Sapporo (if it’s what we hope for) might also not go along with that ^ theory ahaha.
but the buddy system is so good for jikook and so happy for them and that it got approved, because of course during AYS they didn’t know either, just wasn’t sure if it could cause problems down the line?:’s
Hey anon, thank you😊
“ do you think, in theory if jikook are together and stay together for more years to come, it would be a problem if it came out they were a couple and they entered the military together?”
I don’t think it would be a problem at all. The korean military doesn’t care about two men being in a romantic relationship or atleast that is not what they have said their issue is. Their issue is, they do not want two men having sexual intercourse in the military. While this is definitely because Korea as a country is still very homophobic, that isn’t the only reason. Some of the reasons why article 92-6 was put in place were:
Regulation of Sexual Conduct: The primary intent behind Article 92-6 was to regulate sexual behavior in the military, particularly same-sex sexual activity, which was viewed as inappropriate within the context of the conservative, hierarchical military culture. The law criminalized consensual same-sex sexual activity among military personnel, regardless of whether it occurs on or off duty, and regardless of consent. This law has since been revised since consensual acts that happen off base while off duty are no longer considered the military’s business hence the couple cannot be penalized.
Discipline and Order: The law was framed as a measure to preserve military discipline and morale. The idea was that any sexual activity perceived as non-normative could disrupt the cohesion and operational effectiveness of military units. However, this rationale has been heavily criticized for being based on prejudice rather than on evidence of actual harm to military order.
There was also a third reason which is that the law was put into place to curb sexual abuse which happened in the military that was filled with mostly men. Some men used to get sexually assaulted by superiors and sometimes even after the assaulted men reported what happened, the abusers claimed that it was consensual so that is why the military doesn’t care if the anal sex was consensual or not.
Jimin and Jungkook wouldn’t face any issues with the military after their discharge even if the military knows that Jimin and Jungkook were a couple while enlisted because the law doesn’t criminalize the idea of two men being a couple but just two men engaging into indecent sexual activity on duty, while on base.
Under Article 92-6 of South Korea’s Military Criminal Act, the law specifically criminalizes “indecent acts” between military personnel of the same sex, which typically refers to sexual activity. However, the law has been applied in a way that focuses primarily on consensual sexual acts, rather than simply on the existence of a same-sex relationship.
The law is explicitly concerned with “indecent acts,” meaning that if two gay men are found to have engaged in consensual sexual activity, they could be prosecuted under Article 92-6. If two men are merely in a relationship without any sexual activity, the law itself does not criminalize the relationship. The nature of their relationship could still attract scrutiny and even accusations of sexual relations even if none have occurred but the good things here is, Jimin and Jungkook have never come out as a same sex couple so as far as everyone is concerned, they are just two band mates, friends and bros from the same town, so as long as they are not caught engaging in any indecent sexual activity, then there is no risk to them now or after they are discharged.
So anon, no, Jimin and Jungkook won’t get into any kind of trouble even if everyone finds out they were enlisted as buddies while being in a relationship. This is clear when when you read article 92-6 and see that the military doesn’t explicitly have an issue with same sex romantic relationships. They only have an issue with indecent sexual activity that happens in and around their premises by men in the military. I don’t think any gay couple would want to admit that they are a couple before getting enlisted mostly because there is bound to be scrutiny but anybody who tells you that they would stop themselves from enlisting together just because of that fear is wrong.
I don’t really think the “distance” between them at the beginning of the year had anything to do with the military and I don’t think them seemingly intentionally putting a distance between each other was about their military either because if that was the case, they wouldn’t have enlisted together. I think it was something else that we may or may not ever find out about. I also think at some point Jimin and Jungkook were just operating on very different wavelengths and at some point Jimin seemed to have needed others more than he needed Jungkook. I have my thoughts on what could be the reasons but i’ll wait to see how things turn out on AYS (the Sapporo episodes) to know for sure.

On Math, Philosophy, Science and Art
Math, like any philosophy, is a lens. A lens through which we can look at reality. People may say that math is not a philosophy, but they would be wrong.
Philosophies are all lenses to look at the world with. They are each of them carved out of axioms, polished by their exploration of the emerging ideas, and peered through in order to make sense of the universe.
What makes math stand out so much from other philosophies is its sheer predictive power when used in scientific context. But fundamentally, all philosophies are predictive when used in scientific context. Many philosophies are applicable to sociology, or psychology. Math, or rather, formal logic, is just usually applied to entirely different fields of science, namely physics or chemistry, which causes the confusion about logic being a philosophy at all. But it is!
Science is to observe and interpret the world, then to record the findings. While the observation and recording is done either directly or with help from technology, the interpretation is done with help from philosophy.
This means, that science shares a lot of its makeup with art. There too, someone interprets the world, and then records something, but the record is tied closer to the interpretation than to the observation. Usually. The line between the two is blurry, and if you are a scientist, or an artist, you might have noticed that blur already.
Some of the most beautiful artistic talent i have found, i found within the elegance of a theory in physics, or the simplicity of a proof in mathematics.
Some of the most impressive record-keeping i have seen in artworks that are almost photorealistic, and that without actual photography.

Ok, so the thing is I very much feel like Castorice could very easily be paired with every member of Starchfly. So time to go through each person one by one and explain how. Of course, spoilers for 3.0 main story quest so please don’t read ahead if you haven’t finished yet.
So Stelle seems like the easiest option here. The hug from the music video just feels like a good starting point cause like what the heck is up with that and when are we going to get into that in the story? Also like, Castorice the adorable girl who always acts all formal with everyone using proper titles and all who always follows Aglea’s orders actually went behind her back to try and get Phainon to save us. Also you know the genuine giggles we get out of her when feeding the cute Dino’s? Goodness so so good. I’m sure there’s more but I feel like StelleXCastorice is the one I need to spend the least amount of time proving. (And no, none of this applies to Caelus as well, Caelus doesn’t exist)
March is an interesting one and honestly is based more in theory than anything, (but it’s theory with evidence so bear with me) One point that I don’t need to go theory brain for is their shared love of cameras and photography? Like goodness I can imagine the two of them having a super long discussion about cameras in general and photography and yeah. It’d be cute. Also like, if you find and talk to Castorice after the main story quest, she says that she can’t remember anything from before a certain point when she entered the city she came from I guess? I don't remember the names of places but the point is, there is a chunk of her life she doesn’t remember, something that is very similar to Stelle and March’s situations.
Now to take a deep dive into some theories about where the plot of AMphoreus is going to better understand potential for MarchXCastorice, we have to take a look at what the heck is up with March and what exactly her deal with Amphoreus is. I honestly feel like it’s pretty obvious that March is the Mother that Oronyx mentioned. (Given how the titan reacted to Stelle taking a picture with March’s Camera.) So, then who is Mem? Well, we see with Nikador that it is possible for at least a Titan to split their soul, I think that’s what either happened to March or what March did to herself. And Mem is one of the missing parts of March’s soul. Or maybe the only missing part of March’s soul. Regardless, Looking at how Oronyx reacted to the Chrysos heir's prophecy and how they reacted to Stelle having met their ‘Mother’ I genuinely think that the mother, who is most likely March, must have set up some plan that goes against the prophecy that Aglaea seems determined to follow. Basically, I do not think that the Titan’s will be the end game and I think the only character currently truly beginning to question if the way Aglaea is pushing is the only way is Castorice. Castorice seems to truly be the only one who is showing true pity for these titans, by saying sweet dreams to Oronyx and giving Nikador a peaceful send off. Heck, she even starts to question it out loud before cutting herself off. Genuinely I feel like March’s condition is going to worsen for some amount of time until we reach a critical point in the story where Dan Heng and Stelle finally get back in contact with the express and find out what is going on with March. Then we’ll have to reunite Mem with March, get a potential 5 star March form, and she’ll lead to the true end game where we dismantle this prophecy and make a better world for the titans and Humans. And the first native of Amphoreus to be on board with that plan? Most likely Castorice, as she already has a soft spot for these titans. Yet another thing to make Castorice loyal to March and Stelle. Of course I’m sure Phainon would join to cause he’s the main support this time around for some reason, but he’s boring and we aren’t talking about him so ignore him, he doesn’t get a role in Morning Glories. Basically, I don’t know if Aglaea or the Council of Elders or hell, maybe even Phainon will be the end game final Amphoreus fight, but Castorice will be team March and Stelle if I’m right about this.
Now FireflyXCatorice was honestly a bit trickier to find a connection for, well, until Castorice started talking about how over all she valued Life over death. An approach that Firefly seems pretty close to. Hell, if anyone in the universe has a viewpoint similar to Firefly’s, it’s Castorice. Castorice says that even if death can’t be avoided, at least she hopes there is beauty to it. That sounds pretty similar to what Firely says about Fireflies. Honestly both of them seem to value life above death, but don’t fear death, at least that's how I see them. So I can at least see a deep connection form from that alone. Also I can’t help but wonder if Firefly would be spared from Castorice’s death touch if she was in SAM. Basically, can Firefly touch Castorice in SAM and live? These are the questions we need to ask. Also, both Castorice and Firefly react to Stelle buying out an entire store in front of them (Sure in Firefly’s case we are spending her money), but they both do tend to have relatively negative reactions to you over spending which is a pretty cute similarity.
Anyway, that’s where I’m at so far. Maybe as Amphoreus continues we’ll get more tea. I’m willing to hear out any other thoughts on this as well. :)

Heyy, what did you think of the quantum mechanics: the theoretical minimum? Ive been considering purchasing it
Hello there! This might be a bit of a convoluted review but here is what I thought about the book as a ‘feasible’ learning resource!
The way the contents of the book are portrayed already expects you to have a decent level of mathematical knowledge in order to understand the core of the material (I would say around Calc II-III). If you do end up getting the book I would certainly recommend you to watch each section with its associated lecture on youtube! Also do not feel discouraged if you do not get some concepts on a first try, learning a subject as complex and beautiful as quantum mechanics requires both time and conscious effort in order to bear fruit.
In all honesty though I found the book interesting I did not find it the most efficient way of being introduced to quantum mechanics as a student. We are first bombarded with notation rules and then at times it feels as if words are being written for the sake of being written down and not for the development of a better grasp of the material—but this is yet again, solely my personal opinion.
If you truly wish to embark on the journey of learning quantum mechanics, I would suggest following the model most used by higher education programmes. I would personally recommend starting with a general undergraduate 1st year physics textbook (ex: University Physics with Modern Physics, Physics for Scientists and Engineers, etc…) rather than compiled lecture notes like the theoretical minimum model. After going through the exercises of the sections dedicated to quantum mechanics (because actually applying theory to problems is one of the best learning methods), I would suggest attempting to either go through Griffith’s Introduction or perhaps E. Mandl’s Quantum Mechanics textbook, while also actively attempting to go through its exercise material!
I hope this can answer your question! I truly wish I could share more, but I’ve only had 2 modules in quantum mechanics and I am currently studying for my Principles of Quantum Mechanics exam! If anyone else has any sort of resources they have found useful when studying quantum please do feel free to share them here! :’)

On Dale's grandpa
There are a lot of missinformation in the community about the identity of Dale's grandpa in Birthday, and I feel like we need to apply some scrutiny if we want to find anything useful.
First of all, the grandpa is undeniably Aldous Vanderboom. It's very clear that it's the exact same character model, we just need to compare him to other representations of Aldous.
Here's the superposition of grandpa and Case 23's Aldous :
It's almost exactly 1 to 1.
And no, it's not just a model reuse, it literally never happens for any character in the series.
Now in order to continue, let's start by asserting one thing : Birthday is officially classified as a memory. What does that mean ? It means that no matter how you see time flowing within the cubes (that's gonna be a can of worms I'm not opening today) there are two elements to the memory:
The actual events that the memory record
Some modification that can be either internal or external
In the case of Birthday, we have a lot of elements that are explicitly external modifications made by Mr. Owl (Jacob) and Mr. Crow (Aldous), such as the message in the snow globe, the birthday present, and everything that happens with the blue cube.
Now the question is : where does grandpa Aldous fit into this ? Is he part of the original memory ? Or was he added later ?
Let's start keeping a tally of what we know for sure :
What else do we know for sure ? Well we know the shooting actually took place, as it's been confirmed in other games such as Paradox and very recently, Underground Blossom.
We also know thanks to Paradox that Mr. Rabbit (David Eilander) is actually responsible for the murder.
Rabbit also tells us the reason for the murder : he needed to get back a token of his past life. The only thing that's missing when he leaves is the content of the small box, which happens to be a flintlock pistol.
So the pistol is also part of the original memory, otherwise Rabbit wouldn't have a motive.
We can actually trace back that pistol to Ms. Pheasant, as it is the exact same pistol she had in Hotel, that she killed herself with. Considering Pheasant is Elizabeth Eilander, David's sister, it fits the bill for a token of his past life.
And so now we sandwiched grandpa quite nicely, because we ended up in a situation where we know for a fact that the pistol from Hotel ended up in this random family's house. How did that happen, if not for Dale's grandpa actually being Aldous, who took the gun with him, which is then reinforced by him using the pistol ?
It's not completely impossible for Aldous to not be part of the original memory, but it usually comes at the price of finding a convoluted way to explain the gun's presence, or a different motive for Rabbit's attack.
If you have another theory, feel free to share.

THEORY: HAVE ALEX TURNER'S GIRLFRIENDS BEEN FAKE? OR RATHER BEARDS ALL ALONG? (MOST OF EM ANYWAYS?)
It is clear as day that Alex and Miles are practically soulmates. Just look at photograph or video of them together: the way they gaze at each other, the way they behave around each other, the nicknames they give each other, even the way they give adorable nods each other in both their music, and everything else :)
So knowing that, the question is why would you date somebody else if you clearly do love someone as much as Alex clearly loves Miles and vice versa?
-> Well, maybe you might have assets to protect. And maybe most likely, even though it is the 21st Century homophobia hasn't been entirely eradicated. Here's even a screenshot of this post I saw the other day:
-> With that been said and shown. I'm brought back to address the beards or his 'girlfriends'. Beards definition:
Adding to this- I even theorise Al hinted this in one of his songs- most notebly within the lyrics of Four Out Five from TBHC:
The Hokey-Cokey is a notebly dance that people perform.
Hokey itself as a word has a few definitions. One of those definitions is this:
Cokey as a word is sometimes used as a shortened version of c0caine. And there's even a version of the Hokey-Cokey word: Cokey-Cokey- as in the substance. In this particular instance, however, it could apply to a relationship- because a person typically would probably have to have a certain amount of an addiction to a certain other person to call them their significant other. So if this train of thought is followed: "Hokey-Cokey with the opposite sex" could possibly imply = fake-dating the opposite sex.
Aswell, the lyric prior to it: "the head of special effects in my minds eye." makes me theorise this theory I have more.
A head of special effects would be a person whose responsible for any effect that is manually or mechanically manipulated for screen. In Alex Turner's case, this would be the public most likely.
Lastly (for now), if you look at the way Al holds his "girlfriends" or rather beards:
versus how he holds Miles (and how Miles holds him):
To me, the way Al's holding Mi looks so natural as if he's done it a hundred times before and knows the way Mi likes to be held & the way Al enjoys to hold him simultaneously. However, if you inspect the way he holds the girls, it looks (at least to myself) either put on and or just not the same. Like come on any guy in an actual committed relationship that actually has a heart that's as passionate and big as I imagine Alex's is would probably typically appear more submissive and relaxed and hold the other person more endearingly. However, in Alex's case, that is not the way I see it. Therefore are the girls theoretically beards to make him appear straight- at least to media in order to protect what him and Miles have? I definitely THEORISE so.
I'll probably do a second part to this at some point to delve further into this because this is genuinely something I've really given a great deep observation into for my own personal recreation lol.

Can you try explain what you mean about Ocelot looking like a drag king in mgsv? I feel like your boyfriend in that I just. Don't see it? I'm trying to understand why Ocelot would even have that applied when he's always been just A Guy™
Okay so I'm going to try to do this without getting into Grad-Level 5D Queer Theory Media Criticism, but I also fully realize that in doing that, a lot of this is going to sound very much like I'm saying "Source: Just Trust Me Bro".
(anon i am SO sorry that you happen to be the first person to directly adress me about gender in MGS)
I also wanna be straight up front here and say that I'm not trying to imply that Ocelot is anything other than a guy, he's just also a guy who's playing a million roles (this is important) and lying to damn near everyone, including himself. He has some of the worst identity issues I've ever seen in a character, and that comes to a head in 4 where he literally isn't even *Ocelot* until the final moments of his life. So yes, for the sake of not writing War and Peace, I'm going to assume Ocelot is "just a guy" and come at this from a pure queer theory/media analysis standpoint, not a headcanon one.
So first it's really important to point out the order in which we see Ocelot through the series. In the timeline, the last time we see Ocelot before V is 3 (or PO which I haven't played due to its placement in canon-limbo, but Ocelot looks basically the same). So we see him go from A to B here.
I am going to say something potentially controversial: even before saw V ocelot, I thought 3 Ocelot looked like he was wearing drag *queen* makeup. I don't know whether it's intentional, or an attempt to circumvent the lower poly models and lower definition textures of the PS2, but the first image looks like someone who is going for a highly exaggerated, feminine cheek contour. Here's a few drag queens who, imo, do a very similar contour look:
Whether the color filter or the texturing of the PS2 or something else, the MGS3 version of Ocelot also has a look of mascara and frosted lipgloss (frosted lips being much more popular at the time of MGS3's original release than today, but alas).
So from that I was already very much primed to look for femininity in Ocelot's whole vibe. It was actually kind of jarring how much more rugged he is in V than in any of the previous games, to the extent that it sent up alarm bells in my head that something was going on.
I don't remember the moment that I went "hey, wait a minute," but it was certainly pretty early on. As someone who's been on tumblr a hella long time and remembers when we used to swap passing tips, the specific combination of facial features remind me of a very specific genre of "ftm makeup tutorials" that were also pretty contemporarily popular on tumblr. A very quick summary being mascara on the eyelashes and specific peach fuzz to give the impression of a squarer jaw and having more facial hair, as well as specific contouring to give a "masculine cheekbone." Most of these tips basically came directly from drag king makeup.
Gonna include some drag kings as well, some things to notice include the tendency towards using stubble as contouring and vice versa, the shaping of cheek contouring, and the tendency to accentuate mustache and sideburns.
I'm pretty bad at wording descriptions of hair and makeup so you'll have to forgive me for not going ham on explaining the similarities bc now we actually get to the interesting part which is: so fucking what? If this is true, if you take my word for it, what does it say about the text? If I want to make this argument to someone else, what can I say that will convince them that, even if it's not *intentional,* it's a valid and meaningful view of his character?
Like, you can make a character based on anything you want, but why does it matter whether Ocelot is based on drag either direction?
Ocelot's "drag"iness is multipurpose. One: he's queer. Like, I grant that he never comes out and says "I love 'Big "Naked 'John' Snake" Boss'" but we get a hell of a lot more confirmation that he's gay than we get straight confirmation for a lot of presumed-straight characters. I feel comfortable saying he's canon queer.
Two: it's a visual metaphor for being a double/triple agent. While he's literally performing several roles (KGB/GRU/CIA, or MSF/Real BB/US, or US/Patriots/BB, or anything in between), he's also visually playing two (or more) gender roles, a feminine man, a mannish woman, something neither or in-between. The implication of drag specifically is pretending to be something that he isn't (which he literally always is, holy shit, again, does he even know who he realiy is?).
And before anyone says "Well, if it's so important to his character, why did they wait until 3 to start doing it?" They didn't!!
This is THE most classically masculine that Ocelot ever looks. But there's still precious polygons invested into giving him long hair and a flowing coat. Working with sprites and low-poly models means having to very carefully select traits that you want to display on your character, and Ocelot's go into making him a cringefail cowboy.
The fact that he's a cowboy in itself is also pretty important to the whole gender/sexuality situation. I mean, Brokeback Mountain might not have been out yet, but the male-to-female ratio in the west meant a lot of men cozied up together on the frontier. Hell, hankey code comes from cowboy culture, with men wearing certain colors to announce who would take the "man" or "woman" role while square dancing.
I could go a lot into gender and how it works on a social/societal level in general and why that matters, but OOPS I have been writing this for a WHILE.
I was actually going to go a lot more into queer theory and gender in MGS in general but ngl, I could write a whole doctoral thesis on gender and how different characters perform or subvert gender. Because holy shit when you start peeling back the very thin macho facade of Kojima's work to do a feminist reading of it, boy howdy do you get. A whole lot to talk about. (ask me about death stranding sometime i dare you)
Basically what I'm trying to get across is that Ocelot has a lot of roles that he's playing and NOT playing, and more than a few of those are gender roles, which is very much visually symbolic of his character.
I am so sorry anon I have been thinking about him nonstop for a full year </3 I hope at least the first part of this answered your question about what features I see that scream drag to me.
#also i want to be SUPER clear that transvestigating real people would be fucked up#its always morally correct to transvestigate revolver ocelot#mgs#mgsv#mgs3#mgs1#ocelotposting#revolver ocelot#my analyses#analysis or something
