This country really doesn't need high ranking officials who have access to weapons of mass destruction when they are frequently in a drunken stupor.
Here's a classic example.
That Time the Middle East Exploded—and Nixon Was Drunk
And to make matters worse, that 1973 crisis happened at a time Nixon's Soviet counterpart Leonid Brezhnev was himself becoming addicted to sleeping pills and tranquilizers. While we don't have footage of Nixon in a stupor, there are outtakes of an obviously impaired Brezhnev trying to deliver a televised speech in 1979.
youtube
Now imagine Pete Hegseth making national security decisions in such a state.

So I struggle to find physical exercises that I enjoy enough to stick with, but I've always enjoyed jumping on trampolines as a kid and decided to get a mini indoor one. I got it, and it's great. Don't get me wrong, it's so fun, and everyone that comes over has fun jumping on it.
But you have to understand that my legs are fucked. I've walked on my tip toes since I learned how to walk, and I guess doing that for 24 years straight will like rewire the internal mechanisms that make your legs do what they're supposed to. Like my physical therapist wants to get x-rays of my legs to see what exactly is making it difficult for my legs to function like they should.
Essentially, my legs are flexed when my foot is flat, and my toes being pointed it my default. This means keeping my heel down while lifting my toes is extremely difficult if not entirely impossible in instances. Walking up (steep) hill(s) feels like my lower half is engulfed in flames.
Rebounding is supposed to be super good for those who are struggling with joint pain, so the elderly and heavier people can greatly benefit, but whatever I inadvertently did to my legs has made this relatively fun and easy exercise like torture, I can barely (very lightly) bounce for a minute before my legs are in so much pain that I need to tap out.
I imagine if it's causing that much of an intense reaction for the muscle that it's probably good for my legs and whatever they might call this condition, but it's so frustrating being unable to keep up when I'm following along with senior rebounding videos :(
My leg issues have very likely also caused my hips to be very weak, or the weakness in the hips led to the toe walking, but that's unlikely.
My calves are incredibly strong and powerful, but at what cost. Their beefyness has led to two separate people last year saying that I have "man legs", one person was my mother :/

Blind Tumblr users: don’t get the latest iOS app update!
I just updated my tablet to the newest version of the tumblr app for iOS and it completely broke screen reader access for both VoiceOver and Spoken Content. This has happened in the past already, so I will file a support ticket and copy-paste my text from last time, but this really sucks. I sincerely hope this doesn’t affect all screen reader users, but I’m unsure how they could program this bug in a way it only affects me. If you rely on a screen reader to use the tumblr app, I’d advice to not get the latest update to be on the safe side.
When I say “completely broke access”, what I mean is that no posts on my dash or on individual blogs get read or recognized at all. No plain text, alt text, tags, etc. Note count and buttons still work though.
If you also run into this bug, here’s my advice. If anyone has something more useful, please tell me
File a support ticket and report this bug
Use the browser web version, which still works for me
Interestingly, if you save a post to your drafts and click on “edit” the post text seems to get read correctly. This might be a work-around for some people.
If you have the latest version but your screen reader didn’t break, also please tell me! I would be fascinated to know if this bug is only affecting some people
TL;DR: The latest tumblr app update for iOS made it so screen readers no longer work in the app
Please boost!
Edit: This issue is now fixed as of November 10th 2023. However, since this is a recurring issue, it’s possible that a future update will break it again. See notes for more details.

Plea deal should've kept her free, but back in jail for not doing her end of the bargain
(As originally published with additional photos, Thu, February 15th 2024) WILDWOOD, Fla. (TND) — A senior citizen is back behind bars — not for DUI 0.15 or higher, which was why she was arrested — but for not following through on her probation requirements. Cathie Ann Oldham’s arrest report said police in Florida got “a complaint in reference to an intoxicated subject in a vehicle,” and they…

Abiturjahrgang unterstützt Patenkind in Ruanda - A-level class supports sponsored child in Rwanda

I wanted to share some etiquette for simplifying something down for someone with a cognitive/intellectual disability
you are simplifying the information down, not sharing your opinion
if I ask for a news article to be simplified down and you tell me "they're doing fascist things" that's unhelpful. I want to know what they're doing not what you think about what they're doing.
you should be objective with it
if an article is talking about, say, a new proposed bill in Congress an example of an appropriate way to summarize would be:
"this is what the bill is proposing
this is how the article says it will affect people
this is what the author thinks about it"
and then you can start talking about your opinion
we have a right to form our own opinions about information. if the only thing you share is your opinion you're denying us that right. when simplifying language you are a translator. think of yourself as a translator.

visually impaired and still rockin'!
tails built the visor for him. it acts as a multi-tool: a screen reader and a proximity sensor. you know, like how when you're in a car and it'll beep when you get too close to something? sonic uses it to navigate at super-speeds!

i think at some point the chronic illness community needs to have some sort of conversation about how like 70% of our tags are filled with undescribed screenshots of the same twenty graphics that only apply to invisibly disabled people

Hello! I've recently read your 'Remus x hearing impaired!reader' and it was sooo sweet and I adore your writing so much ;-;
Do you think you'd be up to write bf Remus x reader who was born deaf, but never had the option to afford hearing aids or a speech therapist as a kid, so they've also been mute for most of their life - but they work hard on themselves and one day, when Remus comes home, they greet him verbally, like 'Hi, Remus' with a bit of a nervous smile? Like the first thing in their life they decided to say was his name? ;-; I would melt ;-;
Take your time (and feel free to skip this ask!)! Hope you're having a great day lovely!!! <3
Ty for requesting <3
cw: reader is (mostly, or at least up until this point) selectively mute, and while reader in this fic has decided she really wants to use speech I do also want to emphasize that Remus would be perfectly happy and just as in love if she never did
Remus Lupin x hearing impaired!reader ♡ 460 words
When Remus comes home, he finds you first thing. It’s part of his daily routine. Sometimes you make it easy for him; you’ll be in the kitchen or at the table by the window, and the movement of his entry will catch your eye. Other times Remus goes in search of you, finds some gentle way to get your attention and let you know he’s home. Today, you seem to have been waiting for him.
Your book is cornered by the time he steps inside. You set it down on the coffee table while he closes the door behind him, and Remus watches you as he sits to take off his shoes, bemused. Expectant, though he doesn’t know of what.
He signs hello.
You keep your eyes on his, a little smile taking you before you open your mouth. “Hi, Remus.”
Remus freezes. His lips part, and for a moment no sound comes out. Your words were slow and unsure, but they were your words. And his name.
“Hi, sweetheart.” Remus remembers to sign only belatedly, but you must read his lips, your grin spreading as he speaks.
He finds himself standing with one shoe still on. He walks as if in a daze to where you are on the couch, sitting across from you on the edge of the coffee table.
He signs, throat tight, “Where did you learn to do that?”
“I’ve been practicing,” you sign back. You’re smiling big, beautifully proud of yourself. Remus finds his own smile irrepressible. “I wanted to surprise you.”
His eyes burn. Remus laughs, wiping underneath them. “You said my name.”
“I wanted it to be one of my first words.” Your eyes are warm with earnestness.
Remus is overcome. He takes your face between his hands, kissing you. It’s unlike him—not the kissing you, but affection given so suddenly, so forcefully—but you preen, so he keeps doing it. Kisses pressed to your lips, your face, until he’s working his way down your neck. Remus rests his lips over the center of your throat.
“You have a lovely voice,” he signs when he pulls away.
You grin. “Really?”
Remus nods. “Will you say something else for me? You don’t have to.”
You look eager, but shy. You wet your lips. “Hi,” you say again, softly now. Remus smiles so hard his cheeks hurt.
“Hi,” he signs, laughing. “You sound so beautiful.”
“Thank you.” You look pleased, as you ought to be, your cheeks appling with joy.
“Thank you.” Remus’ eyes are wet again; he decides he doesn’t care. “I love you. Thank you for the gift, sweetheart.”
“I love you,” you sign back. Your eyes light with an idea, a look Remus likes very much. “Maybe I’ll learn to say that next.”
