Broke (2016): BBC Sherlock is a phenomenal piece of media and anything that seems like a flaw just hasn't been fully explored yet
Woke (2020): BBC Sherlock is an incredibly flawed series run by an egotistical writer, it never deserved the hype and is actively bad on so many fronts (especially representation)
Bespoke (2024): BBC Sherlock is flawed and bogged down by increasingly poor writing, which many fans refused to see while it was airing, leading to hugely misplaced expectations (particularly for the final series), AND it has the seeds of some compelling characterizations and portrayals, some genuinely solid performances, and touches--albeit imperfectly--on complexities that are still being discussed today (particularly as it relates to the relationship between Sherlock and John). The huge cultural impact of the show has created a massive pendulum effect in its public perception, leading to most people today remembering a caricature of the show (whether positive or negative) rather than appreciating its nuanced merits and failings...that being said Season 4 sucked
#these just sum up my personal takes at the years in question and also what i'm seeing on tumblr/other social media#bbc sherlock#sherlock holmes#and i actually have a lot more thoughts to share on this series#specifically relating to the cultural impact#there is SO much about the show that goes unappreciated in hindsight because of how public perception of it has soured#and i totally fell into this as well--i still regularly rewatch hbomberguy's video absolutely dismantling the series and he isn't wrong!!#but what i'm saying is that i think it's easy for us to look at a piece of media (especially one so massively popular) like sherlock...#with very black-and-white lenses. it wouldn't have become so popular if there wasn't something inherent in it that resonated with people#and that's being buried (and i totally forgot it) because 'sherlock is cringe and problematic. can't believe i liked that'#which again it IS full of issues and those are well-documented as they should be. future portrayals should not repeat those mistakes#BUT being able to impact so many people is a merit in itself. and that's only possible because of other genuinely good things about the show#yes the way they handled the relationship between john and sherlock was riddled with problems YES it was often queerbaiting#AND the way they portrayed that relationship had a deep effect on me. i saw a lot of myself in sherlock and the complex way he loved john#the nuanced feelings he had about john's marriage to mary. the part (in s4!) where john calls him inhuman for not feeling romantic love#there was genuine intention and care put into some parts of this show and it comes through in scenes like those. they impact people.#and because of this realization i'm going to (eventually) do a rewatch of the show. i'm much older and i want to see how i'll view it now#but i want to go into it--and i want everyone who engages with it still--to have an open mind and evaluate it for what it is#not what we expected it to be (secret episode anyone?) or what the cultural drift has turned it into (the tiktok of sherlock's mind palace)#but the messy problematic somewhat-heartfelt massively significant and ultimately meaningful piece of media it actually was#anyway that's my thoughts would love to hear y'all's perspectives#funny how after all this time making a sherlock post still feels like i'm poking a bees' nest lol please be kind!#kay can i just catch my breath for a second#kay has a party in the tags

"just be yourself" has always been one of my most hated things to hear from someone. it may sound simple and easy to you, but when you grew up never able formed a single solid personality (because you grew up autistic or for some other reason) and/or have always felt more like 20 different personalities in a trench coat who fight over who is supposed to be in charge, that "simple" advice is so much less simple.....it can even seem impossible.

I'm seeing some bad Dorian takes already... it's concerning the number of people that suggest that he's "unwilling" to move position or be reasoned with because 1.) In game, we have herd very little from Dorian himself and only through Robbie during cooldown and 2.) It's been like 2 days since his world fell apart give him a little grace, also he hasn't talked in depth with anyone yet.
I just find it's strange that people think his stance comes from being unable to accept responsibility for how things happen with the crown keepers, when we know for a fact the he does 100% blame himself and carries that guilt and that killing the gods would be his way of atonement.
I also don't like the idea that dorian is being 'tricked' like no, he has agency and he can use said agency to disagree with other (white) characters. The onus isn't on Dorian for being "tricked" but on Ludinus for using manipulative techniques to appeal to those rightfully pissed at the gods.
I also find it really odd that the same people who give dorian very little grace have said nothing about Ashton. Who 1.) Openly said he was on Ludinus' side the most and 2.) Had a borderline nihilistic take to the situation, like at least be consistent. Is being anti-god bad, or is it only bad when the character of colour does it?

the absolute lack of media literacy from people who havenā€™t even seen oppenheimer is making my head spin but whatever
#like - every three seconds itā€™s someone talking about how itā€™s us military prop or it doesnā€™t cover the atrocities well etc etc#when a) it is so definitely NOT us propoganda- it is so clearly critiquing the us military and oppenheimer himself#and b) it doesnā€™t cover every small detail of the impacts of the bomb bc thatā€™s not what the film is about#it is a screenplay adapted from a biography on oppenheimer#it is about him - a biopic - and how he got to the point of making atomic weapons and ends on a note of undeniable horror#it is a movie that constantly bombards you with anxiety bc you have the burden of knowing the future#it is not in any way forgiving anything - it acknowledges the fucked up nature of the situation#hell itā€™s mostly a courtroom drama that shows how fucked up mccarthyism was#iā€™m a big history buff - so this plays a lot into it#but yā€™all have GOT to just stop seeinf things on a surface level and engage with media w/ a deeper mindset of just ā€˜thing badā€™#anyway - sorry it bothers me a lot#there are genuine criticims that can be leveled at both nolan and this film and i have seen them#im not sitting here calling the end all be all of cinema - but itā€™s a well made movie w/ something interesting to say and evaluate#not wanting to see it is one thing - by all means - but wringing it through the mud w/ absolutely no knowledge of the actual content of -#the film itself is actively annoying#media literacy#oppenheimer#mini rant

I personally really could not give less of a fuck about genderswapped ruikasa because first and foremost imo I think people just do it to get yuri warrior points instead of actually caring about female characters/wlw relationships. however I also dgaf because I think people do it in the most boring way possible without thinking about how tsukasa and ruiā€™s personalities would impact how they present themselves as girls.
Tsukasa is so incredibly determined to be seen as a reliable mature older brother figure to the point where he dresses in an incredibly stuffy and boring way & has stripped his room of anything childish (& anything with personality). She would not dress super cute & girly. she would want to be taken seriously (& you should be able to be taken seriously wearing fashion like that but Iā€™m not getting into that rn) & be viewed as anything but childish. She would not dress like Saki she would dress like she worked at a library or something. Her fashion would still be boring. Integral to the character.
I have less to say abt rui because I generally think less about what his fashion choices say about him (beyond hater of tight clothes #sensory issues king) but he is almost never in shorts and dresses in comfy loose fitting clothes he would also not be a hashtag girly girl wearing short skirts and bows either.
ā€˜But I want to draw yuri and I want them in cute clothesā€™ draw emunene instead. Hope that helps.

greetings fellow genshin enthusiasts and fanatics!! once again, i'm generously presenting and offering my most beloved mondstadt character spotify playlists, free of charge and yours to consume, if you will.
#the playlists areā€š unfortunatelyā€š still a trilogyā€š due to me being unable to complete the one i dedicated to albedo#i doubt i'll ever release it into the void unless i happen to develop an albedo brainrot strong enough to force me into creation again#as for these 3 playlists ā€“ PLEASE DO SCROLL THROUGH THEM !!#because i dO admit most of the songs at the beginning of each of them are rather typical and expected to be there due to their popularity#and thusā€š the playlists may look like any other overplayed (and rather incorrect and character inaccurate) ones at first sight#which isn't the caseā€š because i do believeā€š or rather like to thinkā€š that i know my favorite characters better than many (if not all)#but then againā€š it's most likely just me being delusional#but i digress-#i tried making them as character and lore accurate as i couldā€š lyric and vibe-wiseā€š and i can say that i'm rather pleased with them#stillā€š some songs are definitely my oddly specific personal touches that directly align with personal headcanons or scenes from various fic#i could elaborate on all of them individuallyā€š but i'll willingly hesitate and abstainā€š for everyone's sake#(do ask if you're curiousā€š thoā€š at your own risk)#the venti playlist turned out to be my favorite of the 3ā€š even if i was most dissatisfied with it at the beginning#most thought was definitely put into kaeya's oneā€š while diluc's somehow came together along the way and (mostly) spontaneously#i do add songs to these playlists occasionallyā€š whenever i come across some that i deem fitting for the collection#so if you decide to save or listen to any of theseā€š definitely check them out from time to time for new musical gems#and DEFINITELY do not hesitate to recommend some songs for themā€š even if they'll have to go through my personal evaluation process first#kaeya#kaeya alberich#diluc#diluc ragnvindr#venti#barbatos#genshin impact#genshin brainrot#genshin headcanon#genshin playlist#spotify#wilhelminaesque#Spotify

I see where you're coming from, but also blorbo is different to everyone and we all had different experiences. I was in voltron but pidge was my blorbo, not lance, so I rarely saw him. And then I saw Yuuri everywhere whether I wanted to or not. Also, polls are not about accuracy, as much as we might think they should be. Life is a popularity contest. šŸ©µšŸ’™šŸ©µšŸ’™šŸ©µ
Tumblr media
my blorbo rankings contain multitudes. however, i am cognizant enough to recognize two things:
while lance is not my specific blorboest blorbo, i still rank him to be a more iconic blorbo than yuri. and so my vote for lance is still valid.
this poll is about most iconic blorbo. i like keith and allura more than i like lance, but i firmly believe that lance is voltron's most iconic character. i define "iconic" based on the following criteria: a) canon material; b) fandom experience and reaction; and c) impact on outsiders (the "did i see this character everywhere" standard). i heavily value points in the (b) category over points for (a) and (c).
lance's canon material sucks ass. however, the fandom's ability to 1) go crazy over lance anyway, and then 2) ability to extrapolate so heavily, insist on digging so deeply, and create so genuinely is impressive to me. and also incredibly hilarious. this is why i made the toxic iconity argument: i deeply respect the daily battles lance stans fought, both between themselves/the wider voltron fandom, and the constant enduring sisyphus-level uphill battle against the quality of the canon material. lance stans were able to create everything out of veritable nothingness, and i believe that deserves to be commemorated.

I live in a delusional world where in high school musical sharpay and kelsi had a secret tumultuous toxic frenemies with benefits relationship in which sharpay was deeply in denial of her lesbianism hence her overcompensating with her obsession over troy and kelsi was just experiencing a combo of low self esteem Iā€™ll take what I can get and I am fascinated by this turn of events and want to see how it plays out and throughout the movies as kelsi gains more confidence it changes the dynamic of their relationship and they either end up with a respect for each other that slowly turns into affection or they just both end up hurting each other so devastatingly that they never speak to each other again

Headcanon : Rhinedottir would rather fuck the world up than go to therapy
She is the type to suffer in silence
Also while guilt is a good reason why she act so drastically, I think mania would be more interesting
HRLLPPP THIS IS SO TRUE
Rhineā€™s like those old people who swear they donā€™t have anything wrong with them, because ā€˜back in their days, kids toughed out how they felt, and it was normalā€™, but then they grew up in the 60s LMAO
Youā€™re definitely right considering the fact she doesnā€™t at all seem like the type to even go near therapy or mental health practicesā€” just considering the fact she actually thought abandoning her kids if they didnā€™t meet her standards was a good ideaā€” so sheā€™s definitely wayyy more bottled up ; hence the stuff she does šŸ˜
I have no clue what is/was going through her head when she did half the things she did, but I think it could definitely be some result of guilt derived from the cataclysm (or something else) spiraling into her just be manic, and that being her driving force afterwards
This is also sorta making me think about if there were any attempts to have her just,, go to a psychologist or therapy or anything at all. Since thereā€™s no way everybody looked at that woman and thought she was doing okay in the head at ANY point in her life

so the next test track comic would potentially include a panel with heavily implied (but also censored and non-explicit) noncon. Removing the panel is an option and doesn't really destabilize the flow, but I am indecisive sooo

What Does Impact Look Like?
What does it mean to create impact? It's time to look at what it means and how we can tell when we achieve it.
Impact is the ultimate outcome for any social change initiative yet itā€™s also the most elusive and poorly defined of our evaluation metrics in practice. How do we change this? In this first post in a series, I bring us into the world of understanding impact. Non-profits are in the business of making a positive difference in spaces that are ignored or neglected by other institutions society.ā€¦
