Hi so I was having some brainrot regarding your small-town-neglected-meta reader and I wanted to share them with you!

One thing I've been thinking about alot is the way readers powers work and what kinds of weather they're likely to create, etc. One thing I specifically thought about is that readers powers definitely have to come from her mom's side. Bruce and no else in Bruce's biological line have powers so readers mom has to have the meta gene. I was thinking that maybe readers mom also controlled the weather a bit, maybe not as strong as reader can but still had some powers.

Like creating little drizzles, maybe some dustdevils, and little snow storms. Because her powers were so weak she never really used them for much, maybe to help out her own parents on the farm but that's about it(using her rain powers to easily water the crops)

In that same line of thinking I also wondered if readers little brother also has superpowers. Maybe the way his powers work or appear are bit different than readers because of they have different dads(I imagine Bruce has really strong genetics. If Damian is any proof of that lol)

One little crank in this little headcanon though is that Nana and Gramps would also have to have superpowers. But then I reread the first chapter and thought about One of the phrases you used to describe how reader got in Bruce's hands.

"but blood is thicker than water in the eyes of the court."

That specifically makes me think that Nana and Gramps are actually readers little brother biological grandparents and not theirs.(what happened to their bio grandparents 🤔)

But anyway, one last thing I wanted mention is how badly I want to see reader using their powers more freely when they're back in small town. Like they aren't afraid to use their powers to make it super windy and have fun with their little brother up on the sky. Or causing a blizzard just so they can have a snowball fight and make snow-men with their little brother. Or even accidently cause a power outage because someone pissed them off! No more suppressed emotions just freedom. (Also reader crying in the middle of the rain they made in front of their parents graves(they wanted to be buried in their hometown) would be so tragically fantasic.)

Anyway I know this is a lot to read and I'm sorry if I seem a bit scrambled but I wanted to send this to you just cause I had so many ideas floating up in my brain I couldn't stop thinking about it all. Thank you for listening to me ramble, I hope your doing amazing🩷

Complicated little bugger, ain't it? I didn't add Stephanie or Barbara because Bruce technically never adopted them or fostered them. This isn't an official thing, I made this and it was composed of little bits of information I found online. So some of this stuff might not be lore accurate.

Also, while I was researching I found out that Bruce's middle name was apparently Patrick, after his grandfather at one point.

Now, time for the pseudo science.

I consider the meta gene to be a genetic trait carried down by a parent. That would be Momma/Adeline, in this case. She carries the gene. Now, the meta gene does not always activate even if one has it. So, no, Momma was not making mini storms for us. She was, however, very encouraging of Reader using their abilities. It takes an event, usually a traumatic one, to activate the gene. (Little Brother could be getting power's in the next chapter, though.)

As for Nana and Grand Daddy we have this:

They don't have the gene, so they don't have abilities. (Which doesn't me their harmless.) They are Reader's Step-Grandparents, but they've grown to love them all the same. Now, in court, it is preferred for a child to go to the nearest blood relative after their parents die. Or, at least, that's what I roughly know from what the court in my state is like. I'm not from Louisiana or New Jersey, where Gotham's located, so maybe it's different. But, this is fiction. This is why Nana and Grand Daddy didn't get custody of Reader, though. Plus Bruce is rich with a bunch of adopted kids, on paper he looks like the best option.

I really love the thought of Reader using their abilities for silly little things while back in Smalltown, at least before things absolutely go to hell in a hand basket. So I'll probably include a bit. (They used to do things like that before moving to Gotham, definitely.) Something I want to mention is that Reader likes to make it rain when their happy. It's their favorite weather, they love it. So a grave scene might be a bit different. (I have to include that now. Thank you for that idea! Frick, Part Eight about to be long af.)

If your curious about Reader's other grandparents, they just died from old age and health problems. I like to think that Reader had a close relationship with them. Calling them MawMaw and Gab for their nicknames and having spent a lot of time with Reader and their Little Brother before they died. (I'm sorely tempted to just commit to rewriting this with the OC I based Reader off of so I can include all this backstory to highlight how different their life in Gotham is compared to what it used to be, but I best finish what I started first.)

(Side Note: It's very common in the American south for people to give their grandparents nicknames. I have some for my southern grandparents, while I call my northern grandparents just plain Grandma and Grandpa. The nickname can vary and is usually what ever the first grandchild comes up with.)

Caregiver!Diego Hargreaves Headcannons

He uses his mother as a reference for everything he does. The phrase "what would mum do?" Is a frequently used one in his vocabulary.

He will buy all of his siblings plushies. He does not care that Five claims "I don't need that", he will get him it.

Enjoys being able to be just vulnerable with his siblings and really show that he cares.

I'm sorry I have quite a chaotic music taste so I won't guarantee that you'll like this one but this song heavily reminds me of Adam, it just gives major Adam vibes to me.

Listening to the lyrics, this whole "idolization" of him, people admiring him, the "First Man" like some celebrity while not really knowing much about him (and his flaws). I don't think I have to overexplain this, basically what the society does to every popular person.

Then, this whole being dead but also being alive/revived thing matches him so well too. As the first human, even though he had a long life on Earth and others died before him, death still must be quite a foreign concept for him, or at least I can imagine that. Especially after he died and got into Heaven as the FIRST ever human soul. Being the only dead person somewhere for so long can easily make one forget that they're actually dead lol. Also, the lines "Look, it's you, good as new, new hands, new throat, new living tissue" just straight up remind me of him getting into Heaven, earning his "new" angelic body in the afterlife, being dead but still being able to feel alive.

The phrase "Lifetime achievement award" itself can also match him if we interpret it differently. Him being the first ever man in heaven, who stayed "pure" (didn't eat the apple and didn't sin), he earned Heaven like an award by staying pure and worthy through his whole lifetime on Earth.

Anyway it really is an interesting parallel to Adam being the first man and the "perfect human" and all that, I think it's fascinating that we try to comprehend how Adam's mind would work given that he is the first human, the first soul in heaven, etc etc. We often see immortal people in fiction eventually going insane for that reason, and Adam isn't really sane or anything lol but not in the same way that people in fiction tend to get. Adam's relationship with death is probably way different than ours, he understands it differently from us, even if he did know what death was, like you said, it's been a loooooooong time since then.

I want to preface this by saying this is not a request disguised as a question. Have you ever designed Mavericks? If so are they online somewhere? Or do you not like the X series?

...I like the series' gameplay and the music, in particular I am fond of Maverick Hunter X (barring everything involving Vile) and MegaMan X4...! I like X5's music! ...Uh... RiCO is cute?

Imma level with you, the thing is that while I appreciate the gameplay and music of the X series, I do generally find the actual story and characters to be such a chore that I do not really want to bother with it.

I like Robot Master design given that by all indications, you can equate making a Robot Master to making a comic book super hero such as Spider-Man or Batman.

Pick a theme, play around with it, figure out their personalities, what they're good at, what they suck at, what are their quirky bits, what powers do they have, how much can you stretch that theme?

So classic Robot Masters tend to go

By all accounts there is not a lot of breathing room with the Maverick design since its a lot of just... pick an animal, give it a power and that's basically your lot, I wouldn't have the fun of coming up with something fun.

Not to mention... line economy, Maverick designs are overcomplicated as hell (and generally, that goes for X era type designs), if a robot master is a comic book super hero, then the X series designs are the equivalent (to me) of making a 90s overdesigned, edgy "hero"...

...or a throwaway villain for an episode of a TMNT-wannabe.

Soooo I would have no fun with making a design.

But how about a personality then?

That's ALSO a no-go because the mavericks have the maverick virus to deal with.

Sure they're brash and have varied motivations, but we never really learn anything about them as individuals BEFORE they go maverick because the entire point is shooting them down since we are a super cop.

We know GutsMan likes to do Karaoke for instance, that's a personality trait that makes him fun.

You could do the same with Mavericks, but since they're all outlaws or infected with a virus that overrides their entire personality, there's not much room for experimentation there.

So nothing I could do would be fun to me, the most I could do would be "...this is an electric coyote, I guess?" and call it a day.

The only time I ever made anything of the sort is "Exploding Moskito", and that was a throwaway joke at Zero's expense since he dies to an exploding moskito mechanoloid in... x2? x3? I forget.

I have drawn X-related art before though, just... not entirely original maverick creations since that's never interested me.

Though this one was technically a commission.

So... yeah, I'd probably try to make something for Zero, ZX, Starforce and BN before I even considered making something for X, there's nothing fun there for me to play around with.

At least Zero has a more broad Mythology theme and sick-ass art style.

Butters very own deep dive!

although being for 5 years in the south park fandom , watching a LOT of analysis of butters i had always been confused on some of his actions. why would a kid with such strong morals hurt people? a character who stands up for himself so fiercely also get pushed around? now though, i feel like i can understand him way better after re-watching south park.

-BUTTERS AND HIS MORALS;

ever since the first episode where butters stopped being just a background character and started having actual dialog we establish that he has strong morals and unlike pip ( a character which butters steals the spotlight from and fills his role as the 'adorable loser' in the earlier seasons before taking a main character role) he has a backbone. he stands up to his parents in "butters own episode" when they start fighting and the reason I choose this episode in particular is because in this scene you can see both his traits: he is not afraid to stand up for what he thinks is right.

"so then egg, why does butters get pushed around and does all these horrible things?" well my dear readers it all starts from butters morals. we often see cartman and the others use butters empathy as a way to get what they want. in season six its espesally evidient as they'll use phrases such as "Kenny would have done it" while kicking their feet and looking down at the ground. butters immediately after seeing their expression gets hit with sadness and you can see it in the way is brows relax and his lips frown as he lets out the words "fine, ill do it".

but this isn't the only reason why butters often does 'horrible' things. although this instant is more rare, it is still shown in the show. of course butters parents are very...not quite mentally there (if i had a guess they have some sort of narcissism because they rather than seeing butters as a human being, they see him as a property. an extension to themselves. and of course because they believe they themselves are perfect that's what they expect from butters too). they are extremely controlling which leads butters to do some rebellious acts. often they are harmless though like professor chaos or butters punching his dad when he had the 'VR set' on.

although butters has done some real fucked up shit in the past he still is considered to be one of the most morally good character. that's because we often see that butters really doesn't want to do the things others force him to do weather that's because it goes against his morals or his intense fear of getting grounded. another reason is because we see his genuine kindness. my favorite example of this is in A.W.E.S.O.M.O where butters sends the money he makes to the needy children. i mean heck the kid needs a costume to do anything that goes against his morals, needs to be someone else (i.e prof chaos, detective butters).

i think butters morals are a big mix of lawful good and chaotic good (leaning more on chaotic). his morals are by the books but while a character like Kyle who is lawful good sees things like "this is bad, I'm not going to do this" butters is more likely to do a 'necessary evil': tap dance again knowing the consequences to help south park not get 'served', pretend to have a disability so you can help your friends and make them happy. i have to say though these strong moral are starting to shake a tiny bit and the reason for that has to be eric cartman.

there are two traits in particular that i think butters has gotten from hanging around cartman, positive and negative:

Leadership- throughout the earlier seasons butters has shown to be a follower but in season 20 and beyond he has been more of a leader. of course even though it is unfourtunate that butters leadership in season 20 had gone to a anti-feminism movement there are plenty of times it has gone for good such as; when butters motivated the guys in 'butters creamy goo' or in 'dikinbaus' where the moment butters takes over the business he is making money left and right.

aggressiveness- i know it sounds impossible-LOOK AT HIM? how could he ever be aggressive? well the aggressiveness is more of a half and half thing rather than a thing he that repeats itself often. what i mean by it is that the only times butters truly gets aggressive is when he is overstimulated (going native, bullied by grandma) his aggressiveness often is shown as passive but there has been times where he hasn't hesitated to use his fists.

i have to say though with these additions butters has started to be a little bit more worry of cartman, not to say that he has built a wall between them- in fact they have a more genuine friendship now than ever, as also described in the official south park wiki site- but he definitely has a sort of plan B to fall back on when cartman does something shitty (A.W.E.S.M.O, dikinbaus)

but at the end of the day butters is still his sweet, pure and innocent self. he still leads with his heart and not with his head and he will forever be my favorite adorable loser.

I know Call of Duty Mobile comics are not canon (at least to my knowledge), but it's nice to see some crumbs of Makarov contents. Most importantly, there's a hint of "Makarov being a girl dad" moments in the comic that had me screaming.

We get to see more of his personality, though some of it were a bit OOC to me. But most of the time, they got him right. More russian quips and all, something we don't see much back in MW2 and MW3.

His sassy bitchy side. We got glimpse of that back in MW2 and MW3 but in the comics? Deadass he's such a sassy little shit, that at some point I couldn't even be mad at him 😂 .

We also get to see him sort of, kind of, but not really, have this odd sometimes wholesome, mostly questionable, father-daughter vibe with Sophia Couteau. This bit was probably that caught me off guard the most, mostly because we know him as this cold heartless bastard that he is. It was mentioned that he took her in as his protege after her father died. She became part of his crew along with another character Wraith. Funny enough, Sophia even slightly defend Makarov against Dame (her mother) here.

Anyway, back on the topic.

Interestingly, Sophia's father, Edouard "Templar", once tried to kill Makarov. Sooo, you can see why I label Sophia and Makarov father daughter vibe as "questionable", since well... it's Makarov we're talking here. Trusting Makarov is a deathwish.

So, what was Makarov's intention of taking Sophia, whose father tried to kill him, under his care?

Personally, I believe there's a thin line between genuine care and using her for his own cause. I do believe he initially took her in to use her for his personal agenda. But overtime, he grew to care for her a little bit. Maybe he sees himself in her, reminding him back in his days when Zakhaev took him in (different circumstances but still there's similarities). But of course, I don't believe his growing care for her diminished any thought of using her as a pawn for him to use. But damn it he did had me thinking that he genuinely, truly cared for her.

Another thought I had is that, he might took her in because he sees it as some kind of twisted way to get back at Edouard? Maybe he thought; "You tried to kill me? Imma steal yo kid and be a better dad than you then lmfaoo *runs away with adoption paper in his hand*"

But not really though. Considering at the time, Edouard was considered dead (turns out to be alive sometimes later though agaaag this comic really kills me because anyone can never be truly dead). So, him doing this in the name of "getting revenge" on Edouard, is pointless. Unless of course, he's always known Edouard is alive the whole time.

Yeah all in all, it was really a treat to see Makarov being nice and affectionate with someone. A treat and kinda astounding sight too. Especially since we know what he's like in the game agagaa. Like yeah we know who he is and what he is, we know if push comes to shove, he will probably betray Sophia in a heartbeat. But still, it's heartwarming to see their interaction.

Can I vent? Imma vent. I had to ask my friends to hold off on playing story modes bc we had planned out the night to play together. (I bought snacks.) Cassidy and Genji being a sibling dynamic is something I didn't expect but I do like that the writing team finally confirmed they were close in Blackwatch. This is something that is going to be it's separate post but some things I like is Genji taking notice of Cassidy's bad habits in present time, something I don't think he could do back when he was first with Overwatch. Also this somewhat confirms my theory that Cassidy was the only member of Blackwatch Genji stayed in contact with. Something that catches my eye though is that Cassidy seemingly forgot there were some good times in Blackwatch, probably because he's pesemistic but is is interesting in context to how he talks about Deadlock, only ever talking posotivly about it.

Ana: Is Fareeha getting enough rest in between missions?! Mercy: Ana... Your daughter is more than capable of caring for herself Ana: She never napped when she was little, she was cranky all the time. Pharah: Mom! Everyone can hear you!

This would be cute if it wasn't for the fact that we have another voice line with Torb that has Pharah refusing to rest. Again this is another post coming up but I think this shows that Angela doesn't really know Pharah as well as Pharah knows her. Pharah made an accurate judgement on what Angela was thinking when she joined up with the others in Paris, she also corrected herself by realizing she shouldn't have expected a goodbye from Angela because Ange is bad at goodbyes. Meanwhile Angela makes the incorrect assumption that Pharah is getting enough rest when we know form other interactions that it's not true. Again this is something I'm going to fully dive into in another post so I don't want to spoil much here.

I find inspo in a variety of places. Sometimes it's just a picture of the character/the actor who plays said character. I say that as if almost all my fics aren't about Anthony Bridgerton. 🤣🤷‍♀️

Or maybe it's a scene from the show itself. Other times it's in conversation with our lovely group of friends when we're bouncing ideas off each other and more often than not enabling the more intriguing/crazy plot bunnies to take hold.

All anyone needs to do is take a glance at my Bridgerton Fic Masterlist to see that I love a good moodboard. It's almost always the first thing I do when writing a new fic. For me, it helps set the tone of what I'm going for.

I Know What They Did Last Summer.

This piece was written for my creative writing class my sophomore year of college. My life was in ruins, I had to check myself into a psych ward, could barely care for myself at home or in public, and had intense paranoia of running into the people who traumatized me in public. Though it has been a full year since this event, I still feel as though no one heard of the true pain it caused me and will continue to cause me until the day my eye’s close for the final time. Please if you are in college/are about to begin college read this and take the advice given. The experience you are about to read is true and honest and just a way to release the feelings and frustrations brought onto me that I never asked for in the first place. Whether you believe it was my own fault for falling into this situation or not, it should have never happened the way it did. Thank you for reading.

In my freshman year of college, I was recruited to work as a summer camp counselor for my school’s alumni campgrounds. I hadn’t met a lot of other students that year and the job was only for students attending my school who wanted to make connections with established alumni. I wanted to find a way to put myself out there and was excited to spend my summer in Lake Arrowhead with 50 new friends for 11 weeks. I also really wanted to use the money to buy a kitten. My recruitment was during the last quarter of the school year and returning camp staffers began hosting events to get the newly hired staff to get to know one another and learn about the camp experience before arriving at the camp. At the time, this was exciting and new for me as I'd never had luck with making a lot of friends. All I could think about was how I was going to experience the Wet Hot American Summer I'd seen in the media! But I didn’t think about a lot of other things during this period. Like the amount of alcohol we were being given during those camp staff mixers, or how the camp program was nicknamed a “campus cult” by the student body. I brushed it off as quirky facts that made the group more exciting to be around.

It wasn’t until I went through a messy breakup with my boyfriend at the time that I began to become more involved with the camp staff bubble. I would attend the mixers religiously attempting to form bonds with other staffers before the summer began and drinking until I became sick. I was counting down the days until I could step foot on the campgrounds. But because of my cursed fate of being an introvert at heart, I became too observant of my surroundings. Slowly, my rose-tinted glasses began to rise. Why were returning staffers seeming to quit before the summer even started? Why do they keep playing ‘Imma Be’ by the Black Eyed Peas at every single mixer? Why do I keep being told I will sleep with another staffer before the end of the summer because it's unavoidable? Why do all of the returning staffers speak like parrots and repeat the same phrases over and over? Well, after giving it a ponder or two I decided

to put my glasses back on. I was newly single again and wanted to experience a summer like the ones depicted in movies, and boy was that a terrible decision to make.

During these parties, I met a lot of the main staff, both sober and blacked out. I had never been a huge fan of alcohol but it seemed that inhaling a can of Miller Lite was the best way to assimilate myself into their culture. With the glasses on, I ignored their treatment of blacked-out underaged staff members as they let them stumble and groan to themselves back to their homes. I ignored how a returner grabbed and felt my body as he introduced himself to me at a mixer. And again, I pushed the glasses up my nose so I could see through them better. When I would come home from the mixers plastered out of my mind, my roommate would comment how it was concerning how much they would have us drink (e.g. every mixer would start with around 10 handles of liquor and a gallon of jungle juice only to be empty by the end of the event) and I would dismiss her very valid concerns as her shoving her Christian ways down my throat. But I really should’ve been listening.

Now on to the interesting part, the camp. I honestly don’t remember much, there are things I remember clearly and others that I have blocked out, and some that I couldn’t reimagine if I wanted to. The first day I stepped foot on the campgrounds, I was drunk out of my mind. I had participated in a staff tradition of chugging a Four Loko (which are banned in some states of the USA for literally killing people by the way) up Arrowhead mountain. I remember putting away my bags in the frat house-like housing that the student staff workers all lived in called Cedar and immediately finding out a staffer was raped a night before in the room I was staying in. As some staff came up earlier than the rest for extra training they carried the tradition of partying, from this party a female staffer I was close with drank so much she blacked out and went upstairs to sleep it off. As she slept, a male staffer followed behind. Nothing was said about this event to this day. The bosses quietly let him go and we were told he just needed to ‘go home early’ and that we needed to drink more responsibly and watch ourselves.

The Cedar experience came with an odd set of rules, you couldn’t open your windows or even look outside of them as they require you to tape over the windows so families couldn’t see or hear what we were doing, and you weren’t allowed to take any photos of the interior of the house nor were you encouraged to have your phone around if we had group meetings in the big room, you were not allowed to lock your door for any reason at all- if you were changing or taking a shower you just had to be comfortable and ready for people to come inside and see you.

And once I began training the rules became even weirder, we were required to eat with the families during lunch and dinner and were not allowed to eat with each other during this time, and we were highly encouraged to not respond or contact our families while being at the camp as the staffers were our new family for the summer. My routine for the days would go in the following order; Wake up at 7:30 am, get breakfast and listen to the staff meeting, work in training groups for around 3 hours, eat lunch and have another staff meeting, work in training groups for another 3 hours, have dinner with the last staff meeting of the night, have rehearsal for the opening and closing show performances we put on for the attending families until around 10 pm, go to Cedar and sit through another small staff meeting and then get drunk and ‘party’ until 4 am and do it all over again for 6 days consecutively. I was being hazed and didn’t know it at the time.

As the sun rose and fell, my glasses slowly began to fall from my face. It started with the Juneteenth-inspired drinking game they named the “3/5th compromise” where we had to shotgun a beer, drink some of a liquor handle, and shotgun a Four Loko to end it off. They never forced anyone to drink, but they never made you feel comfortable if you chose not to. Returning staffers would taunt me, trying to get me to join in on their version of ‘fun’. With each nightly event, they grew more and more uncomfortable and forceful. We had a toga party where we were berated in a room with pillowcases over our heads and our arms up in the air for around 45 minutes to prove our loyalty to the camp. Then there was a scoot your booty drinking game where completely inappropriate questions were being asked and shared as we drank more and more. We even had a skinny dipping event they called “Nakey Lakey” where we all jumped in the lake and came back to Cedar to “party” where some if not most of the people there were fully naked from the lake experience.

But nothing beats the tropical-themed night. That day, I desperately wanted to just go to bed after the rehearsal as I had been getting 3 hours of sleep for 5 days. But, I fell for the peer pressure beaten onto me and decided to check out the party. Everyone wore their swimsuits as they lined up in the hallway drunkenly awaiting our group walk over to the warehouse that we would party inside of. As we entered the warehouse it was dark and we stood in front of a closed door with a staffer manning the door. He told us something that stuck with me forever. “Don’t tell anyone about what you are about to experience, it is our biggest camp secret and we want to keep this beautiful tradition between us only”. His tone was firm and serious, and my heart had somehow found itself falling slowly as the doors opened. Something felt off.

The room was lit with red LED lights and had two foldable tables with a big soapy catch pool covered in a black tarp. As I stumbled into the bass-booming room I kept telling myself I was overreacting and nothing weird was happening. I remember turning my head to tell a coworker about how odd the setup was before turning my head back and seeing every returning staff member naked. Not half naked, fully nude. Full frontal some may even say. And I guess my heart had run outside the room because I ran to catch it. I had never felt a feeling as I did then. I sobbed outside of the warehouse until I threw up. My rose-tinted glasses lay beneath my feet, shattered and broken.

After collecting myself I went back inside and braved the sight of my coworkers and peers fully nude without even telling me it would happen in the first place. They even began running back up to Cedar in groups to jump in showers together and burst into people who didn’t attend the events rooms. My mind was running on a million thoughts at once, do I stay and join in? Or do I go home and tell my mom to pick me up? It seemed that the older staffers noticed my situation and tried to explain to me that the event was a trust exercise between everyone and that I didn’t have to join in their nudity. But their words were muted to me, all I could think of was how fucked up this event would make me in the future.

After this event, I left. I called my mother in the middle of the night after walking far away from the campgrounds in fear that the other staffers would try and convince me of how the event wasn’t a complete autonomy-ripping moment. My parents came the next afternoon and I had to leave in silence out of fear of being caught by other staffers. The ride home from the camp was a doozy. I knew in my soul that I had done the right thing, but in my heart, I felt that I was making a mistake. That I had lost the only friends who seemed to want to be with me. Nevertheless, I never turned back. I found out later that week another drunk female staffer had been raped the night of the tropical-themed party. I had the worst summer of my life, and I’m only 20 years young. I felt hopeless, depressed, useless, and objectified. I didn’t know what to do with myself after experiencing that. I still don’t honestly.

But, oddly, I’m glad that I had to brave myself through that torment. I never knew how strong I was until making a literal James Bond-like plan with my mother over the phone on how I was going to escape that place that night. I hate that everything happened the way it did, and I feel strongly about that place being burnt to the ground, but if I didn’t experience that summer I wouldn’t be able to know my power of not being a follower with no reward. Out of the 50- something people hired for the summer only 5 of us left, including myself. The rest stayed the entirety of the summer and pretended nothing happened to this very day. I see some of the people I worked with as I walk to classes and school events and it’s weird knowing we sit on two different sides of a scale. It’s weird knowing the lengths people will go to for the sake of “friendship” and it’s sad. But, hey! I got the cat.

- Zheng Yi Sao’s reveal from soup lady to Pirate Queen. Never been another like it.

- Zheng and Auntie have a dynamic that reminds me of a much healthier and better adjusted Ed and Izzy—Auntie calls Zheng out for getting distracted by Olu but doesn’t stop her or interfere, Auntie is the harsh voice of Zheng’s orders and her enforcer with the crew but isn’t cruel, and Auntie clearly respects the hell out of Zheng and supports what she built with her piracy career, and actively helps her and is respected in turn by Zheng. Take what a captain and a first mate are supposed to be like, and bring a flavor of Stede’s people-positive management style without the naive condescension. Competent and thriving. We love to see it.

- Okay but can we get a recipe of the noodle soup bc that looked genuinely so good

- Frenchie is a cat. He’s being a cat. He’s a cAT—

- Fic writers who called bitchy teenage anger Lucius aimed at Stede, take a bow, you’re the MVPs. (And sweet sweet farewells to the many headcanons of Lucius living in the walls of the Revenge as a ghost, but girlie you did not need to be there and that’s for the best)

- Frenchie is so intelligent though. And sneaky.

- Been wondering too if Ed’s impossible bird is a reference to something existing, or something made up for the show, but keep forgetting to Google it. Keep seeing references to albatrosses, which tracks and I’m okay with letting that be the extent of it for now.

- I’m telling you, either Buttons IS the rabbit, or the whole crew is gonna THINK Buttons is the rabbit. Auntie gives him a document about transforming into animals, and in later episodes Ed is wearing Buttons’ shirt and there’s a rabbit??? Buttons has something to do with this.

- The garlic and finger crosses are deffo gonna be aimed at Ed in upcoming episodes. Can feel it. Also wondering where exactly Jim brought down the cannonball for Ed to survive it—AND ALSO HEY YALL THINK CALICO JACK SURVIVED HIS OR—

- Listen I can’t think for too long about the mermaid sequence or imma cry but SWEET LOVING GOLDFISH ;A;

- Also if they don’t make a Rick Roll joke or reference with Prince Ricky then what is the POINT of him

- Also points to us for being pretty sure he ran into Spanish Jackie; you never want to assume but when a guy shows up in this universe without a nose…

- Wondering about the symbolism of the pig in Ed’s Limbo

- Also finding grim humor in how Ed’s vision of Hornigold had to force the nutrition down his throat. Not at all metaphorical and layered.

- Black Pete being honest and not taking the shot. Go you, Black Pete. Not letting your ego talk yourself into irreparable trouble.

- I love Archie. I want more with Archie. Can’t wait for Jim to get good use out of having two hands for more than hyper competent murder. Hyper competent cuddling of their exceptional partners.

- Olu pronouncing eucalyptus. I want to bottle it for a rainy day. Also he’s so sweet the entire time they’re on Zheng’s ship. Love him. Oh captain my captain.

- And…the original rat man in the room. Izzy caring about the crew all of a sudden feels fast but tbh there’s been a time skip and Izzy is fighting an uphill battle with the consequences of his actions; I’m inclined to give the season a bit of leeway and see where it goes. Can’t get into too much detail or I’ll derail this whole thing trying to decode him and I don’t want to.

- I KNEW THE PROMO PIC OF PETE LOOKING EXCITED WAS HIM SEEING LUCIUS. I CALLED IT. IN MY MIND.

- also called that old guy in ropes was Hornigold. Nice.

- I got distracted and made another post about Ed really taking the long way around this whole suicide thing but my heart just drops every time I look at how he CHOPPED OFF THE WHEEL. THAT THING LOOKED SO SOLID. ED YOU TAKE THE AXE OUT AT THE WRONG ANGLE TOO HARD AND YOU COULD HURT YOURSELF PLENTY.

- Okay also aside for how I was NOT expecting either Ed’s prettiest babygirl look to be at his most unhinged, and I was NOT prepared for Ed shooting Izzy in the leg to be the thing that made Izzy lose the leg.

- Like seriously, I figured losing the leg was going to be a metaphor for Izzy cutting out the worst and most toxic bits of himself, the pieces literally rotting away and killing him with them, the toxic masculinity and the homophobia and the racism and such—but not quite like THAT XD and it’s way more a metaphor for him being forced to let go of his relationship with Blackbeard before it kills him, which is better and less comprehensive anyway.

- The way I flinched a mile when Ed shot him though. Just wasn’t expecting it.

- And the way Jim is sticking up for Izzy. The whole thing with them and Fang and Frenchie—I’ll put this up from one of my many failed Izzy essays, their treatment of him has nothing to do with Izzy and everything to do with them as people. Their choice to fight for a better ship atmosphere. Because love and forgiveness have fuckall to do with how much either party DESERVES those things and everything to do with whether they’re WILLING TO ACCEPT THEM. Love is redeeming and transformative but it takes work, babes.

- Izzy just happens to be the recipient of their reaching. And he might just be tenderized enough to let it start getting to him. But we will see.

- Ed’s suicidal tendencies and his will to live and hope versus his belief in his own unlovable nature has been covered so much and so much more eloquently. But it bears repeating that I knew I was going to fall in love with this show when Stede was shown to be passively suicidal, and then later Ed was too. Maybe I’ll make a fuller post about it later, but. That just means so much to me personally. And while the visceral hurt and drama of Ed’s journey is a step beyond me…I get it. I love how it was handled. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

- STEDE BELLYFLOPS OFF A SHIP TO GET TO ED. MY BELOVED GOLDEN RETRIEVER.

- Stede’s continual cold dismissal and refusal to engage with Izzy. Character growth. Delicious drama.

- I sincerely hope Zheng Yi Sao accomplishes her piratical takeover. And I hope some sort of truce with the Revenge can be reached, bc yeesh. What a way to get out of an admittedly not great situation with an objectively great character.

- It’s so weird bc like. It’s baseline a historical show. We know that the golden age of piracy ended and not well for the pirates. But they’re already throwing actual hard facts and reality out the window. So it makes things like a Chinese pirate taking over the Caribbean feel way more plausible. I’m excited to see what happens with the larger scope of the show as well as the smaller emotional focus.

and i’m so glad you asked bc i’ve been thinking about this right. so like every episode seems to take place over the course of a couple days but the space between episodes varies it seems? like we know ep1 is in august (which is interesting bc this is for their senior year project but the thai school year actually starts in may? tho maybe university is different idk) when in august? who knows, but we’ll say it’s mid-august since that’s when it aired

so we know episode one takes course over 1-2 weeks between the project assignment and then top being introduced and him courting mew which ends with him asking mew out publicly at the bar - this brings us to the end of august

ep2 picks up right where we left off and appears to follow the next weekish or at least couple of days since i assume the waterskiing thing they did happened a couple days after just based on the fact that it happens after sandray’s first hang and and their second one is the night of the waterskiing thing, and sand’s reaction to ray and the way he phrases their last interaction implies it wasn’t like a one day time skip if that makes sense, so my guess is it’s at least a couple days between - which could bring us to the beginning of september

ep3 picks up again kind of where we left off with sandray (though the bostonick montage implies a time skip but i’m assuming it’s just a montage of their last hookup until that day and nick says it’s been an everyday thing so that feels a safe bet sjdkekd) and ep3 again seems to have like a weekish for the timeline with all of them planning for the party and the sandray hookup having obviously been fairly recent and yada yada and it ends with the party, which brings us to early/mid september

ep4 once again starts where we left off (after the flashback) with ray taking mew home and AGAIN we can assume this is happening over the course of a week or so bc we get multiple different days with bigger events happening and it ends with ray in the bath deciding to move onto sand - bringing us to mid/late september

AND THIS IS WHERE IT GETS TRICKY! bc ep5 doesn’t follow the same pattern! it doesn’t pick up where we left off and it instead implies a time skip with sand helping ray at the beginning + then sand saying that ray’s tagging along AGAIN… which implies this has been happening for a couple days at least. SO. based on the montage at the beginning of the ep imma guess about a week has past since the end of ep4 and since the episode opens the day before sand’s birthday, that makes sand’s birthday end of september/beginning of october. also this episode is the only one that takes place over just one day after the initial montage! very interesting stuff especially since that ending kicks off the big drama we’ve been waiting for

I'm doing great! I woke up to a few asks in my backlog this morning, which was a welcome surprise. I promise I'll get through all of them at some point--I just gotta make sure I keep a comfortable pace with writing for them! I can't stop writing walls for you all lol ^^

Interesting thing about your ask in particular is that challenge in the center of it. I saw it earlier today and at first I didn't want to answer it, but I remembered what I want this blog to be for me. Though I enjoy creating things and sharing ideas with everyone here, my blog is ultimately my page. If I worry about how people will react to my own thoughts, then I'd be sacrificing myself to appease everyone else's opinions...and that's no good. I don't want to surround myself with people who I'll have worry like that with either, so why shouldn't I light this fuse this early? I used this same logic to confess I'm a roleplayer bc I worried people might find that cringe, and imma stick to this logic till the bitter end. I'm happier when I'm honest about myself even if I may get harassed for it.

I believe complaints about animation quality and pedophilic implications/moments in the series are highlighted way too much in the fandom.

I find those complaints exhausting as soon as I think someone might bring it up. Talking about the anime? Someone's gonna bring up bad animation. Talking about any SDS ship? Someone's going to say yikes over Balaine or another yikes-able ship. It can't be stopped no matter how many times I've seen such talks already. I completely get it--really, I do--but it makes me not want to talk about SDS at all sometimes just to avoid seeing those complaint subjects again.

I get worried whenever I feel this way because I'm sure people will assume I'm more of an apologist than I really am if I share my feelings--especially when it comes to the pedophilic complaints. If I say anything like "it's not THAT bad", no matter how I phrase or elaborate on it, someone's gonna read that as me saying "it's not bad at all". It is bad. It is disappointing that it's canonically built up to the point that it has. But none of it is black-or-white, and there's so much in this story outside of its problems that deserves more attention. That's how I feel, anyway. My opinion isn't black-or-white, either, nor are anyone else's thoughts on this same thing.

Honestly, I'm just genuinely curious about why there are so many "yikes" cases in this series. I have almost no interest in judging it morally. Maybe it's like this because the original Arthurian legends are the same way and it's an adaptation thing? Are they the same way at all? I haven't researched this. I probably will soon.

Anyway, I think you're right about Tristan and Lancelot not being besties in canon interaction. However, the catalyst for shipping interest is usually the potential in a pair rather than the canon possibility. Their canon interactions, intimate or not, shed some light on that potential. I don't ship them because I personally don't see enough potential between them, but someone else may see endless possibilities for them. It's all subjective, yknow?

Aight, imma break it down using 3 cases that I know of.

Let's start with Winston. Yes, Winston's goal is to hypnotize toons, but it is not an active goal he has. He acts friendly to the toons he meets, and what do they do? They lock him in the dungeon, and it breaks him down, drives him mad, until he is left as nothing but a broken, shambling, glitchy mess of a skelecog. And even then, he still tries to befriend the toons before the fight.

The second is Misty Monsoon, who starts her battle off trying to teach the toons a song that she likes. A SONG! And throughout the fight, she clearly doesn't want to fight the toons, but knows she has to. Her emotions also play into the fight, causing storm cells and monsoons as she becomes increasingly upset. In her mercy ending, she even explains how she tried to play tic tac toe with Bessie, and what does she get? A frickin' PIANO dropped on her head! It is also mentioned that she isn't even safe from her own people, the cogs. It's not explicitly mentioned what has happened to her, but by the way she phrases it, it must have been horrible.

The final cog (and arguably the most damning evidence) is my boy, the man, the myth, the absolute heartbreaker himself, Chip Revvington. Chip does not fight the toons willingly. Whereas the two other cogs chose to fight the toons after being met with aggression, Chip is actively forced to fight because of one single thing that was installed on him when he became manager: The Override. In his post fight cutscene, he explains how the cogs fear him because of this Override, and how he hates his job and wishes he never worked for COGS Inc in the first place. He also mentions to the toons to not bring up anything from the fight to Spruce, as he sees him as a brother and is scared that he would be abandoned in fear, should Spruce ever learn about the Override. He actively tries to resist the Override throughout the fight, and is arguably one of the most tragic boss fights in the game.
