Every time I rewatch S1E2 Guess Who's Coming To The Wedding?, Dorothy's behaviour hits me harder. Not just how she acts around Stan (that final speech, oh my god Bea Arthur you magnificent actress), but how she acts around Kate and the whole premise. She's so excited about the wedding!! She's always wanted to give Kate a great wedding!! She says "Your wedding day should be the most beautiful day of your life" and you know she's been dreaming about her baby's wedding day ever since her own. You know she's desperately trying not to think of how anxious she felt, how trapped, how terrified, how chocked she was when she herself walked down the aisle. She says "And I just hope that you and Kate have all the happiness in the world!" and you can just see the memories of those 38 years of her life shoot through her mind, you can see her hold on to all the happy moments she can and pray that Kate's marriage is nothing but good years and happy Christmases. And the way her voice chokes up when she says goodbye to Kate?? "Now, listen, you be a good wife, you hear? Be his friend, be his lover. Don't be his slave!" Do you think these are the things she told herself during her marriage? Do you think these are the things people told her and she desperately tried to be all that -- to be the perfect friend, to be the perfect lover, so her marriage would work? Do you think that don't be his slave! was a desperate plea -- don't accept it all, don't stay no matter what he does, don't be like me? Listen this is just a rant and I am going nowhere with this but the truth is Dorothy is the strongest woman who ever lived on television and I love her so much and I want to bundle her up in a nice blanket and go beat up Stanley Zbornak with a baseball bat!!!! God!!!!!!

Those like... Kind of obsessed with everyone in the ADA except Kunikida knowing Dazai is exmafia either before canon or at the very least before it was relevant.

Fukuzawa knew since the before Dazai joined, cause it's kind of important to know before hiring someone if they used to be in the mafia.

Ranpo knew since Dazai walked in. "Super deduction" could pick it up instantly, but at least Dazai knew pretty early that Ranpo likely already knew.

Yosano realized next about 3 months in. To her credit, it was only the mafia bit she was unsure about. She knew Dazai at least knew Mori about 2 weeks in. She recognized some of his habits as one's she knew Mori had and soon there were too many to be a coincidence. Not bad ones, just stuff like him twirling his pen the same or whistling the same tune when bored and a weirdly specific amount of anatomical knowledge.

Naomi is the one to tell Junichiro and Haruno. She just picked it up after a while, saw some of his weird mannerisms and put together the pieces on her own. She told Junichiro pretty much immediately and mentioned it to Haruno a while later.

Kenji just kind of knew too. He didn't care of course, but it was just common knowledge, like cows are tasty and stop signs bend very easily.

I believe everyone else finding out was on screen so im not gonna write about it but you get what i mean.

Dazai thinks hes doing such a good job at hiding his mafia origins when in reality everyone else just isn't mentioning it out of courtesy.

i wanted her to be friends with the gang too. be part of the resistance and have connections to kazuha and gorou and beidou and visit the city and have just a vibrance that never fades even in the face of adversity - not out of a sense of naive optimism but CHOOSING to find the good things in the world and realizing that love is everywhere and you just have to look in the right places and maybe. maybe everything will be okay. not right away, but eventually.

I'm tired and I don't have good words to type against your support for the continued maintance of the world's nuclear stockpile. However, as for the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, you have been severely misinformed.

There was, at no point, any real considerations among the United States military of a ground invasion of Japan. It was well known that such an invasion would be costly and useless, as the Japanese were already beaten by the time the bombs were dropped.

These are some quotes from high up military officials directly present for the decisions to drop the atomic bombs

“It is my opinion that the use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender because of the effective sea blockade and the successful bombing with conventional weapons…"

- Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy, chief of staff to FDR and Harry S Truman.

The Japanese had, in fact, already sued for peace. The atomic bomb played no decisive part, from a purely military point of view, in the defeat of Japan.

-Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, Chief of Naval Operations, and Commander in Chief for Pacific Ocean Areas.

In 1945 Secretary of War Stimson, visiting my headquarters in Germany, informed me that our government was preparing to drop an atomic bomb on Japan. And even if all that can be waved away, the post you cite, *admits* that the bombs were not what made that Imperial Japanese surrender!! The military tribunal could not have given a single shit how many civilians we vaporized with our bombs, this is the same military tribunal that had sat watching all the rest of our bombing raids, and did nothing, and had been hoping that the US would be forced into a ground invasion so they could use their civilians to buffer our troops. it was not until the Russians declared war that they surrendered, because to the military, the only thing that could have made them unconditionally surrender was knowing for 100% sure that they were in a position that was militarily and diplomatically unwinnable.

The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki did nothing except kill 200,000 innocent civilians. They did not die to force the Japanese military into a surrender, they did not die to prevent a ground invasion, they just died, and *everyone* at the reins of US power knew that when they sent the orders to do it.

here’s a statement of my existence

I always looked up to people that were like, you know, the popularised version of androgyny, before i even knew anything about anything else. i used to say that being a woman was the least interesting thing about me, and i still kind of do, but in more of like my gender is the least interesting thing about me. I was so uncomfortable with certain gender norms, not necessarily for a general society but personally, because i never felt like they related to me. And it wasn’t internalised misogyny - i was so into the whole ‘not like other girls’ thing, but not in a way that made fun of others, more in a way of ‘oh, i don’t feel like that, i don’t feel whatever i think i’m meant to feel collectively’ - it was just that I didn’t see that as who i was. I wish someone had told me that the boxes that I saw as the only options don’t have to be definitive of your existence. im constantly changing and that fluidity is so comforting to me because i cannot give you a definitive answer, and i know that might be annoying but i quite honestly do not care. that fluidity allows me to just exist as me, and i kind of always have. something i’ve thought of recently is that i never stated exactly who i was before, so whatever judgements or assumptions you made about me aren’t my business and they have nothing to do with who i am. the thing i realise more and more is that for some people, labels are more for other people than yourself. and that’s not me saying that labels aren’t important, because for some people they are, some people feel understood by labels, and just because i don’t feel that way doesn’t give me any right to police how other people think and feel (i do however feel that if a lot of people opened their minds to possibilities, they might discover things about themselves they hadn’t realised, specifically in the case of heteronormativity). my love for fluidity and not labelling shit doesn’t give me the right to invalidate someone else’s identity, nor would i ever want to. i think a lot of people don’t understand, and that’s the real reason for their hatred and ignorance. anyway, this is about me, not general society, although i exist within a society so i guess it kind of is a bit. okay, last thing i want to say coz my attention span cannot handle this shit and i can’t be bothered proofreading this to make sure it makes sense. so yeah, i guess im a lot queerer than some of you thought. if this is shocking information i don’t really care, and if you think about it, really think about who you know me to be, is it really that shocking? like i doubt anyone is actually surprised. okay that’s my ramble on gender or whatever the fuck biiiiiiiiiiiiieee
