ive been a snappy asshole to our family today bc our body is in so much pain and theyre calling me out for acting ""out of character"" and ""not like myself"" like.. sorry we have different people in our head who act differently in the same situations, unfortunately, i have a low frustration threshold unlike teo, im not sorry either >:(

You made a post giving advice on writing injuries implying that you have medical knowledge and know the right way to portray things. You can't do that and then not expect to be @'d. My problem with your previous post was the absolute language that you used. "If you have a fever of 103 you will go unconscious" No. I don't need to have my emt license to know thats not true. I know people and scenarios where that hasnt happened.

"you will feel yourself bleeding out" it's not that you're entirely wrong, it's the way you're phrasing it. I'll come back from rescuing someone, look down and notice I'm bleeding cuz the rocks are bitches and I NEVER feel them until much later. Nearly every medical aid I've been on the longer time goes the more in pain someone feels (until paramedics arrive and can administer drugs). Cuz the adrenaline starts to wear off. Idk your whole "stop writing characters not feeling themselves bleeding out" is weird bc half the time adrenaline DOES negate or dampen the pain. Not always, but it does happen. Again, it's the absolute language you're using that makes your advice inaccurate. It's not black or white. Every scenario is different but you're telling people it must be a certain way. So yes, continue writing characters not knowing they're bleeding out until someone points it out. SOURCE: IT HAPPENS TO ME ALL THE TIME.

The reality is the human body is weird. Simultaneously fragile and extremely resilient. There are general trends that happen, but ultimately there is always an exception to the rule. There's always that freak miracle that breaks everything you've learned in class. As a first responder, the more experience I gain, the more I learn that. Real life does not keep to the text book.

The best advice I can give for someone trying to write injuries, is hearing the recount of someone else who's had that exact or similar injury.

And if you're giving advice, please be careful how you phrase things. You said a lot of true things but the way you phrased other things is simply not true. Whether you intended it or not, you spread misinformation with the black and white language in your first post and people were listening to you.

writing tips - fevers

guys so the injury post absolutely fucking exploded (500 notes in 24 hours is a lot for me) and the fever part really threw yall for a loop.

I didn't go into it but I can! just to clear up questions.

like, there are so many factors that indicate when a fever is like a big deal and when it's not. part of it has to do with the age of the patient, how long the fever lasts, any causes or prexisting conditions....

Like this:

If person is feverish due to an infection, their symptoms are gonna be slightly different than someone who is fighting the flu. this is because the antibodies are attacking different parts of the nervous system with different kinds of chemicals blah de blah blah blah.

The younger the patient, the more susceptible they are. if the character is a child, a fever of 102 F is way worse than a 30 year old man experiencing that. It'll take a larger toll on the baby's body.

Some people have naturally higher body temps. There is a standard deviation away from the target temp that is still ok. Some people simply exist at 99.2 F, even though for some that's febrile.

obviously it's bio science which means not everything has exactly a clear answer. there are so mnay variables at play that it's easier just to blanket statement the whole thing.

If I could go to college without debt I would make it my job to get a degree in every little thing that interested me. I'd get a doctorate in film studies. I'd have a bachelor's degree for every science I like. I'd try to learn at least 5 languages with varying results. I would learn something "useful" like coding and then follow it up with a ""useless"" degree like art history. I'd be the world record speed run holder for getting every degree possible.

But I can't afford college without going into massive debt, so instead I spent the last 5 years trying to figure out what I am passionate enough about to consider going into debt over, because unfortunately being passionate about everything is extremely expensive to pursue.

still i think the one of the more fun differences drawn between illario and lucanis that was lost would be illario's ability to endear himself to others but serious lack of empathy, vs. lucanis' (self perceived) inability to be charming but how much he cares. it's interesting that the game has gone with the "lucanis' ability vs illario's lack thereof" because i think illario being the dellamorte 'best in show dog' vs. lucanis' attack dog would have made me so unwell.

lucanis is... awkward. he's not unlikable, because he is usually very polite, but he doesn't speak much and only seems to care about the other dellamortes. he once sent viago de riva a knife with no note (who knows what he could have meant by this). he does what caterina asks of him, and by his own admission, cannot say no to her. he is a dramatic and prolific killer, and that makes how untouchable he is even worse.

and the crows like illario, sure, AND he's a good assassin! he's even a good crow! he's so good that he can make lucanis smile, and so he is the charming, sociable one. he's the one that stays in treviso and can be relied upon to care, illario's even the one people prefer over caterina and lucanis!

but illario is decoration. he's the prize poodle, and even if poodles were bred to be working dogs, nobody will ever pick him to protect the house over the german shepherd that regularly mauls intruders. anyways the analogy is getting away from me. the point i'm trying to make is that i want illario to have a different kind of jealousy/hatred that's not just over 'being bad at killing' but also an arrogant loathing for everyone around him that is getting harder to hide, because they've forgotten he can bite and is just itching to rip someone's jugular out. illario is very good at hiding his family resemblance to caterina, while lucanis suffers under his grandmother's, and his own, reputation.

Let's all put on our thinking caps and see that there is no actual evidence that iskall didn't do anything but his own word. There is, however, massive amounts of evidence that he did.

Hey, ignore the hate about the daisy post. Comprehension is genuinely piss poor and people aren't understanding the fact that you never once said you were the hero.

I've worked with people who were genuinely nice but also pissed me off for various reasons as you mentioned. It happens. You learn, you grow. The hate is insane. I hope yours doing okay.

Sigh. I appreciate the sentiment. The amount of people who were morally outraged and felt the need to try to chide me for a story in which I clearly show myself in a negative light just is like. Okay. If I have to appear perfect, then people will form this idea that I never fuck up or do crappy things and then the second I do it’s just gonna be a wall of hate because I broke this expectation of purity and wholesomeness that people built around me.

I really do appreciate the people who were reasonable and understood that it was a growth moment for me and that Daisy was meant to be the hero of the tale. But the experience has shown me I get to be even more selective in what I share here, which is a bummer.
