Still more fluffy relationship headcanons for Astarion and Tav

You guys seem to really like these, so I'm keeping them going for as long as I can. And - I know I said I couldn't do requests atm - but when (if?) I run out of ideas how about you can send me prompts for headcanons on specific topics?

Here we go though, more small ideas and moments for these two idiots!

Astarion is a tease, always flirting with you (for the most part), always kissing you or touching you, always whispering something dirty directly into your pointy ear; sometimes even doing that flat out while you're out in public... with people around.

Deep down he's always wondering though when the day will come that you don't want to be with him anymore; you know that and you try your absolute best to remind him every moment of every day that you want to be with him forever, slowly working to turn the "when" into an "if" and then making him forget altogether

You are basically a street cat, but Astarion? He's a man of culture! And he loves to take you out and frankly just goddamn educating you

He takes you to museums, telling you in incredible detail about the artworks and the displays because he knows his history, also - he's incredibly smart; you enjoy not only him enjoying himself talking about stuff he likes but also just eat it up, eager to learn about stuff you never had the chance to before

Dancing: That's another thing. He knows all the dances: from the silly court dances Wyll showed you once, to the much more interesting and intimate ones where you're flush against one another's bodies

He teaches you, being so close to him, you can't stop fawning, holding you like you're something incredibly fragile and precious while moving you ever so passionately

You've never done this and are incredibly insecure at the beginning, but "Don't worry, love, let me hold you and I'll guide you, you just look pretty" - but then you pick it up quickly and it becomes one of your favourite pastimes with him

You have artful skills of your own though: since you're a former thief and had to stake out targets and places sometimes for weeks on end, you had a lot of time on your hands and taught yourself to draw a long time ago and drew whatever you had to observe: a nice compromise between keeping your eyes on whatever mattered and still having something to do

So, you finally draw him, something you'd promised him a long time ago when you merely had started travelling together; you spend a whole night just to get the first portrait right and Astarion gets uneasy because can't you just let him have a little sneak-peek?

When you show him the drawing, he's just speechless - "What, even more magnificent than you remembered?" you tease him, but you see how his fingers are tensing holding the paper and there's a single tear on his cheek when he looks and smiles at you broadly "No, love, just flustered about how you don't seem to get my chin right"; you call him a liar softly and he sniffles and draws you in for a really long hug and he thanks you deeply

Ah, I also love using these to sneak in facts and ideas for my Tav and helping me flesh out a backstory and more details for their story and relationship. Also don't mind me sprinkling a little angst on there.

Of course, the drawing idea has been imagined many times before and rightfully so, Astarion deserves it. But it's... I haven't drawn really in a loooong time but he really makes me want to give a portrait ago. I had to get it out for personal reasons.

How To Get Roughly 50 Notes On An Original Writing Post And Possibly Net A Single Reader

I had someone ask today how I get people to click through and read my writing, and I'm realizing that I've never actually made a post all in one place of everything I do to get a new piece of short fiction off the ground... so here you go! How to get (some) eyes on your work, even if it is not published anywhere of interest and you don't have a marketing team behind you.

The #1 thing is presentation. You want to get people's attention, and once you have it, convince them to keep paying attention. Fortunately, people tend to be both reasonable and predictable, which means all you have to do is follow The Formula.

Here's the formula from the above post broken down:

[giant horizontal title card, preferably animated to catch the eye] OR [a few tasteful parallels, if you're good at parallel posts]

TITLE (linked to where you can read the piece) / wordcount

a quote that is representative of the tone, themes, prose style, and/or the "promise of the premise"

A longer pitch, featuring the overall subject of the piece (transsexual reality TV drama), any comp titles (Detransition, Baby), the main draw (in this case, watching trans people be awful to clueless cis people), major themes (performance), and any other promises you'd like to make (food romance and tigers). You can see that the quote I chose delivers on the promise of trans people intellectually outperforming cis people-- if I were a reader, I would be more likely to trust that the rest of the pitch was accurate based on that assurance.

If you have any positive reviews on your piece, say so. If it has won any awards or contests, say so. If your work has made people cry, Doja Cat - Say So. Always. Generally speaking, more personal and more detailed is better, but keep it to one or two people-- e.g. "when I gave this to my S/O to read he shot milk out of his nose so far I had to go clean under the couch" or "my favorite review of this piece is the reader who said they read it chapter-by-chapter under their covers because they wanted it all to themself." This should be one sentence.

Depending on where the story is published, what you usually promote, etc., it may be worthwhile saying the story is free. Use your judgment on whether the reader can tell.

I also like putting my links at the bottom so someone seeing this on a friend's dash can easily track me around the 'Net. They make me look more professional (I now include a link to my website) and they visually balance the post, in my opinion. This post also happened to have some additional links for bonus content.

This is not as high stakes as it seems. I'm not 100% happy with the pitch here, and I'm not 100% happy with the graphics I've used in other cases. These are some bones that help to sell the piece even when the details aren't as sharp.

REBLOGGING

When is the last time you read something the first time you saw it on your dash? I schedule reblogs of all important posts at least twice over the next 2-3 days, often three times so I can get the morning/afternoon/evening reblog. If your followers tend to be more active at certain times, go ahead and use those. In the past I've intentionally scheduled posts for times I knew more popular mutuals were active, and it has paid off!

I also schedule a reblog for a week and a month and sometimes even a full calendar year out, because I know there is going to be that person who tags the piece '#to read' and instantly forgets about it, only to get excited when they see it weeks later. I am very often that reader. The goal is to catch people when they're ready to read immediately, and this is a game of chance.

Every so often, I go through my entire #writing or #important writing updates or even just #popular tag(s) and queue two dozen posts before shuffling my queue to redistribute matters. This keeps my older work circulating, ensuring new readers get a chance to see older pieces and giving those older pieces another shot at dashboard space. (More on #popular later.) This sounds like a lot, which is why you have to space everything pretty far apart. Fortunately, this is the world's best site for cool things to reblog. I guarantee you that you can find something new you love to post in the meanwhile.

COPING WITH FAME

The post above is what I, a published author, consider "doing well" for a post about my writing on Tumblr. As of October 10th, 2024, over two years after its initial posting and over five years into my posting doggedly about my original fiction, it has 77 notes. More than half (43) are likes. Around half of the reblogs are me promoting my own work or the same very sweet person dutifully reblogging me every time I do so. Glancing through the reblogs now, I know of four people whom I can confirm have read it. Presumably, there are more who are completely silent and have never interacted with the post whatsoever. Genuinely: wahoo!! I am so grateful and happy for the attention and reception of my work.

This is the number one thing I suggest: focus on what you have, and not what you lack. Imagine your post from the perspective of an outsider: even one reblog means you convinced that one person to spread your art! How cool is that! This is also good advice because moping is simply not helpful; it will not get you more reads. (And no, neither will guilting others. Kill that vent post in your head!)

GETTING FOLLOWERS

I don't have that many followers. Of the followers I do have, people are very unpredictably active. When I hear about other people's follower counts I am consistently surprised, because people with half of mine will have fans and haters the likes of which I could not possibly dream of. I follow 500-follower folk who post "I ate a strawberry today" and get 6 asks ranging from "Wow I respect you so much for eating that strawberry" to "I'm going to come to your address at [REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED] and shove bananas down your throat for hating on my favorite fruit."

I point this out to establish three important things. 1) Be grateful for what you have (in my case, 0 anonymous hate asks about fruitpinions), 2) followers have far less impact on interaction than one might think, and 3) followers don't engage with the things you might like them to.

Think about yourself. Are you more likely to reblog a photo of a cat in a pumpkin (alright, here) or something advertising fifteen minutes' worth of writing, which could be, for all you know, bad? Or, for that matter, by a person you should not like to support? Reblogs on generically interesting things are 'safer' (unfortunately) than reblogs on art, and it makes perfect sense that people are skittish around the latter. People don't often reblog things they haven't read, and nobody can reblog every artpost on their dash. Having someone else put it there, however, is incredibly powerful—someone's vetted this post as Worth a Reblog, after all. Having more followers allows for much more of this.

(Followers don't guarantee any one sort of interaction, but having more of them is rarely bad. Rarely.)

Across my most popular posts, one theme becomes very obvious: people like things that apply to them or their blog. I try to post writing advice/opinions/memes every so often, because I know I have a loyal base of writerfolk who like to see that from me, and it's "easier" to reblog than my writing. This is simply the nature of the universe. I used to pretty frequently go into the #writeblr tag and check out what was recently popular so I could figure out how to serve the same base, and from time to time it worked.

You're welcome to examine the list of #writing posts that made it to 100 notes, because each tends to have a notable reason behind its success: a reblog with an exceptionally good review, a contest win, a wordcount that lends itself to pasting the whole thing in one go.

(Posts about my book's release are a notable exception, in part due to Blaze and in part due to my absolutely relentless flogging of their reblog buttons during the ~year of promotion. Also in large part to a dedicated circle of friends who passed the post around nonstop! Thank you so much!!)

A lot of people will tell you to attempt covert reciprocal promotion. You know—reblog a lot of stuff, in the hopes that people will reblog yours. If I could change one thing on Tumblr, it would be this: the culture that quietly encourages disingenously interacting with other people with a secret True Goal in mind. (On the autism website.)

Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, do not do this. If you comment on other people's work, do it because you're happy to do so. When I released Paper Tigress, I went through everybody else who responded to the same prompt and read their work, because I had the day off and I was curious. This has led to Paper Tigress having more comments on Reedsy than one of my contest winners, and even outranking the shortlisted story in the same prompt category. However, this would have been a waste of my time if I did not genuinely enjoy reading the other stories. I read 80+ stories, taking several hours, and gained 30 comments from the venture (half my comments are my responses).

Crucially, I do not promote other writers' work on Tumblr in the hopes of them reading or boosting mine. This is the #1 tip I see thrown around that I viscerally disagree with. While, again, I am grateful for engagement with my work regardless of the context, I do not want people suffering through my work in the hopes that I will promote them. I work a full-time job, and my reading calendar is perpetually overbooked, including with work by my absolute best of friends. Even if it wasn't, I think it would be quite insulting if I were posting works in the hopes that someone would choke it down like medicine. I post what I think is good so that people can read and enjoy it. If you are not enjoying it, I do not want you to feel as though you have to read it. My aim is to give to others what my favorite authors have given me, which is most certainly not A Bad Time Spent Being Dishonest In The Hopes Of Getting Something Back. You have better things to do with your time. Please be honest.

CONCLUSION

Realistically, the readers I have, I gained through being a published author for five years promoting my behind off on Tumblr, the least forgiving social media for promotion. People like it when you have a book they can buy, especially if it has Goodreads reviews that make it look like you have been vetted for them. Many people who follow me have read only Something's Not Right and nothing else. (Many people who follow me have read everything but Something's Not Right.) I have posted dozens of pieces on Tumblr and Wattpad (and AO3). I gained a small number of readers writing and posting fanfiction for the Locked Tomb Tri(?)logy, even though I marketed it absolutely terribly.

Just keep writing. Keep writing, keep posting, and keep making sure everyone who follows you knows you write. And keep writing because you want to. There's no better advice than that.

Mm.. don't take this the wrong way but your future spouse wants someone that is maybe more of a mess with their feelings. They're more than happy to be your saving grace. They don't care that you're not perfect or that you have lots of lows. They want you... raw.. lmao. not me snorting. You may do podcasts a new way, I'm seeing like drinking on the podcast? lmao i know that's not really new but I'm getting maybe something with liquor/alcohol. There's a lot of traits coming up here now, and I feel like I really am just exclusively describing you.

I'm getting that you're also a calm person, a nice person to be around, like someone just wants to bask in your presence. You also seem to keep improving in life. You keep leveling up. You know how to leave things when it is time. You are able to move on efficiently (?, that's what I got). If pile 3 was kind of more a force to be reckoned with, you may be less "groundbreaking" (not an insult omg) but you're continuous. You just keep going. You continue to live your life. Your past experiences with people or life in general have no weight upon you. HAHA so FULL disclosure for everyone reading this: My upload schedule is about to change because I'm moving in a week and am going to be searching for a job 😭

BUT to answer your question: I have ALWAYS drawn fast. From when I started art some 8 years ago, I had no trouble whipping out 4-5 drawings every day, sometimes more. DOESN'T MEAN THEY WERE GOOD but I just hit the ground running when it came to art. AND because of that, I've built up more line confidence, and have been able to teach myself to draw cleaner even as I draw faster. In 2021 I even made 1+ finished drawings every single day 😭 (here's that if you wanna see it). Also last February I drew one OC 69 times in like 20 days.... TLDR: I've always been this way, and so I've just kind of adapted to it. PLUS it helps that cats are faster to draw than people (in my mind; people are my primary subject matter) Here are some tips, if you Do wanna draw a little faster: 1. Nail down an art style, in general, and for each individual character. It's WAY easier to draw quickly if you already known how each part of the drawing is going to look (i.e. You draw eyes This way and you draw bangs This way and you shade skin This way and you use These colors)(I personally have one color pallet I use in every drawing)

2. If you can't clearly picture a drawing in your head going into it, let it marinate for a little longer, and come into focus. If you know down to the linework how you want your piece to look, you don't have to hesitate as much going into it.

3. FORGO the sketch, even if its just for practice! Try to draw your character starting with the lineart, thats what I do for my asks especially

4. Take breaks! Don't always force yourself to make art. Some of my best improvement happens after I've quit art cold turkey for weeks or months at a time. You draw faster when you're inspired and have a fresh, clear picture in your head Hope this helps!

A/N: Wow, I am SO sorry that this took so long to post! I'm so in love with what we've seen of Wes, and I was really digging to make sure that I portrayed him as I do in my head. I'd love to write more for him in the future, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy!

Working under Asa Sweet has its benefits. Seemingly endless stores of money, eternal room and board, and most importantly, all the midnight lovers he could ever want. All at the price of a bit of bootlegged liquor, and the occasional firefight. 

This kind of life isn't for everyone, but it's certainly made for Wes. And you're inclined to agree with him. The adrenaline of a job well-done tastes even better than the liquor you're rewarded with at the end of the day -- maybe that's why the two of you get along so well. He can appreciate someone who can actually do their job, and do it well. No offense to Fish, of course, but it's nice to have someone… competent. And nice to look at, to boot. 

What? He's not blind -- He knows a pretty face when he sees one.  

If you weren't tangled in this life like he was, he might have tried to shoot his shot at a quick fling. But alas, working together complicates that And it's not exactly wise to play with someone when they've always got a loaded gun. He's not stupid, either. So, coworkers it is. Friends, if he's drunk enough to say it out loud.

The two of you are a deadly duo in the field. In the car it's all easy banter, a playful back-and-forth of teasing and sarcastic quips… but when you're truly working? Fish says it's scary how easily the two of you operate on the same wavelength, and you can't blame him. As a team you're able to coax deals and information from unsuspecting lips with ease; and on the rare occasion things go wrong… well, there's rarely any time to even worry. You've made it a game to see who can draw their weapon the fastest when shit hits the fan, and you're not very keen on losing.  And boy, does he like a challenge. 

Wes isn't a romantic. He thinks he is -- he thinks he's the suavest cat this side of the Mississippi. But he isn't. In truth, he is painfully inexperienced in the realm of romance, outside of one night stands. So when he's suddenly clenching his jaw whenever you pull that syrupy, borderline seductive voice on clients to get your way, of course he misattributes his feelings to lust. Because what else would it be? 

Except it doesn't get better, and no amount of liquor can soothe the tightness in his throat when he looks at you. 

No amount of bloodshed can quell his rapidly growing thoughts of domesticity. 

And there's not a single force on earth strong enough to pry the softness from his gaze. 

He hates that you're such a weak spot for him. He's always enjoyed being in your company, but now he finds himself hanging onto every word, every syllable, every breath. It's embarrassing.  

It's a bit of an awkward game of hot and cold while he tries to figure out what he wants. The most Wes really knows about romance is what he gleaned from when Fish drug him out to see Romeo and Juliet, and Lord knows how that panned out. You know him well enough to let him sort through… whatever it is he's going through. 

(You do pick up on the fact that there's a bit more intent when he smacks Fish for the "weasel" comments, though. Fish's poorly hidden laughter doesn't escape your ears either.)

But as time goes on, he settles back into his normal routine with you. Maybe his words get a bit more honeyed. Maybe he gets a bit more sarcastic, so he can feel you swat at him. Maybe he starts winning your quick draw games more often, and maybe he's formed a habit of stepping in front of you when things go south. You can't know for sure -- he dodges every attempt at questioning. 

If he shows up at your doorstep someday, with roses from your front yard… just know that he's trying.

Life was never as it seemed when a certain ginger cat was around. With his hat and his boots he was nothing but trouble. You spent days with that cat, going on adventures which exceeded your expectations by a thousand.

Every each adventure you went on you'd note down in your journal, explaining it as detailed as possible. You never really knew why you did it. Maybe it brought relaxation after crazy adventures, or maybe you just liked doodling your friend on the edges of the book.

Either way, you never told anyone about this journal. Not like it was a major secret, maybe you would have shown him What you wrote if it wasn't for the drawings.

Those you decided were worth hiding. Which lead to you hiding the book Anywhere you could. Sometimes just in a drawer, but mostly in the small patch around your belt.

Oh, you would go crazy if Puss ever saw that book. But that won't happen, right?...

You sat with your legs up on the table. The sound of a pen scribbling and your tail swishing on the ground being the only things present. A soft smile lingered on your face as you finished the last sketch of your story.

You sighed as you dropped the pen on the table, pulling your feet down. Another adventure written down, finally you could head to bed.

CRASH

A crash was heard just a little further outside your room. Your ears perked up and your tail swished faster. Realizing that it was probably Puss doing something stupid again, you plopped the book on the table with an eye roll.

"Puss what did you break again?"

You asked, standing up and walking out the room, closing your door. No answer came from puss, not even a nervous chuckle. Your suspicions rose when you saw not a single soul in the cabin.

"puss?.."

You asked once more, once again getting no response. You did a tour around the rooms, finally finding a broken vase. You groaned a bit. You're not gonna clean that up.

Thinking puss was just playing a prank on you, you headed back to your room, on guard of Puss jumping out of nowhere and tackling you to the ground.

You opened the door to your room, and was shocked to find Puss in what was once your spot on the chair. He was holding your journal open, reading.

"You're quite the writer, you know that?"

He commented, his head still in the book.

"Hey!" You ran towards him, trying to snatch the book back, but Puss just jumped on to the table, avoiding your tackle.

"Wait, are those drawings of me?"

He asked, a smirk on his face as he leapt onto your bed. Your eyes widened, you felt the embarrassment clawing your insides.

"Puss, give me the book!" You once again tried to catch him. Only this time he jumped next to the door.

"I don't get why you hid this, this is amazing!" He stated, flipping the page, reading with a smile on his face.

You groaned and walked over to him, holding your hand out and waiting for him to give your book back.

His eyes went to you, chuckling a bit before Finally giving your book back.

"Hey, don't be embarrassed Mi amor, I am flattered." He added as you snatched the book out of his hands.

Yes I do and I hope everything's chilled out a bit 💃

1.

To be completely Frank, to be completely David even, I don't think T.C. has a single healthy way to get rid of negative emotions or anxiety. I think he just tries to power through it to try and not show any weakness and then he wonders why he keeps biting his tail so much and why he can't catch his breath sometimes.

Benny's usually pretty good at reminding himself that everything will be okay but when his feelings are a bit stronger he'll call his Ma for advice or just to hear her voice. Nothing like a talk with your Ma.

Chooch holds onto his tail and combs through it with his fingers for instant small anxiety relief, and then he usually goes and paints or draws to get rid of the rest of the anxiety or he talks to T.C. or someone else in the gang.

Spook listens to music or meditates for sure, he's probably the best at handling anxiety out of the group due to his 'go with the flow' groove. He's very much an 'it'll all work itself out' guy and usually has to remind T.C. to slow down and just breathe when he's high-strung.

Fancy's a bit like T.C. in the sense that he doesn't have a healthy way to get rid of anxiety, I actually HC him with mild OCD so he ends up pacing around and doing compulsions to get the thoughts to stop. His most frequent one is to twist and pull on his whiskers to 'pull the thoughts out' which sometimes leaves him with less whiskers than before.

Brain just goes and takes a nap. He loves taking naps. He'll walk right up to you and say that a lot of things can be fixed with a good nap. Headache? Nap. Tummyache? Nap. Sad? Nap. Anxious? Nap. He just flumps right on the ground and he's out like a light, problem solved. What a simple little creature.

2. (This might get a bit long fair warning also a bit corny perhaps but what's life without KoRn)

T.C. doesn't really have an outward way of showing affection but I suppose you could say that it's the fact that he knows every member of the gang almost inside and out. Sure some things elude him but he's taken the time to get to know them so well that that in of itself is one of his ways of showing affection. He knows that Benny's favorite TV show is Gunstroke, that Spook crafted his bongos himself, that Brain had part of his tail amputated by the ventriloquist at the circus, etc. You could also say that his way of poking fun at the gang is largely affectionate, as he knows what genuinely upsets them and what doesn't. (He does this with Dibble too but he typically doesn't care whether he upsets him or not.) Ultimately though I think that there's affection in everything that T.C. does for the gang to make sure they're taken care of and happy.

Benny is always complimenting the gang and giving them kind words and words of encouragement. He's the kind of guy who has the confidence to go out of his way to compliment someone just because it makes them smile. He can make a good day great, a fine day good, and a bad day just a little bit better. He might not always know the right thing to say when you're feeling down but he'll be damned if he doesn't try his best. He'll always find something to compliment you about, even just little things like that your eyes are really pretty or that you're wearing cool socks. He's just a happy little guy and making other people happy makes him the happiest little guy in the world.

Chooch's love language is touch to the point where he's almost constantly craving it, he'll rub up on people and get in their personal space like there's no tomorrow. Is he aware of this? Nope, it's entirely an unconscious trait. He's one of those people who'll like keep touching your shoulder if you're having a conversation with him, y'know? If he's told by someone that they don't like being touched he'll do his best to respect that of course but if you don't mind it you will have pink fur all over your clothes for like at least a week. He knows that T.C. usually doesn't like being touched but Benny likes using him as a pillow when they're watching T.V. and he's all over Fancy a lot of the time (while making sure he's not messing up his fur), Spook and him will wrestle, and Brain usually just lays on top of him. He's been told off by a few girlfriends before for this (and also for being clingy in general) but the burning heart craves warmth or however that phrase I probably just made up goes. He gives amazing (if a bit squeezy) hugs.

Spook likes making himself useful and so he'll do favors for you for his way of affection. Like if the dishes need to be done and you've been too busy to do them he'll go and do them for you. He's terrible at doing things for himself but if you ask him to do something most of the time he'll do it (given that he remembers/executive dysfunction doesn't get in his way y'know ADHD junk) because it's easier to do something for someone else than for yourself. Even if you don't have anything that needs to be done currently he'll go and do something for you anyway. This kind of blends into gift giving sort of, he'll go out and buy something for you if he sees that you want it at all so you don't have to go through the trouble of making the trip. (This is usually how Brain ends up with a whole box of muffins.) He just likes making the gang's lives just a little bit easier this way.

Fancy loves just spending time with the gang. Y'ever gone over to a friend's house and you literally just don't do anything other than just be in each other's proximity? Yeah he loves that shit. Whenever he's out with a girl I like to think that he's subconsciously waiting until he can see the gang again. It's in his nature to be the kind of guy who sees someone he's close to in public and be like 'ayyyyy! How you been??' He loves just talking with the fellas as well, pulling schemes with the fellas, just anything with the fellas. He doesn't believe in wasted time so long as it's time spent with someone he loves. He also loves touch but he's not nearly as clingy as Chooch is, he's just a really big fan of hugs. (He gives the best hugs out of the gang. Strong, warm, soft, and he always purrs.)

Brain's is definitely gift-giving, if he finds a neat little rock he'll give it to you because it's sparkly or it's smooth or just because he thinks you'll like it or because it reminded him of you. He also makes sure that if he's giving you a present for your birthday or a holiday that it's something you really wanted or needed. He might not think of a lot of things or get you a lot of things (because usually he winds up on a time crunch because he forgets it's the holiday or your birthday). He wishes he could get you more things but he always hopes you like the things you give him. The gang almost always keeps the little trinkets or gifts he finds and gives to them because it's a nice little reminder that they're always in Brain's heart. He doesn't make things very often but when he does it's always gifted to someone else. This is all probably because of the few gifts he was given as a kitten that he's managed to keep with him and cherish forever (Like his purple cat plushie and his iconic shirt).

ranting about WCUE

I have ALOT of (maybe) unnecessary grudges with so many things abt WCUE. I love reading rants, so I'll as might as well put out my own too. To the people (probably most of my followers) who don't know what the game is, basically it's a children's game on Roblox based off of the book series Warrior Cats, by Erin Hunter. I apologize in advance, there may be some lingo you may not understand.

So WCUE has been my comfort game for many, many years. Partly, it's my childhood and it's just a game I can just go and chill. Make silly cats without working my ass off on drawing. But when I want to actually go and try and join a clan? Have fun roleplaying a little? (I'll admit, it's a fun thing from time to time.) Every. Single. Fucking. clan. Never manages to keep itself up. It takes SO LONG to set things up. To get the right people. It'll take hours for a clan to get running. And for what? For people to sit in the clearing? For your complicated "fun" plots to fall flat? I don't get being picky. Sure, you want your major roles to have experience, to know their shit. But if you keep yearning for that one miss perfect medicine cat who knows all of the out of game herbs? Bullshit. Major roles are here to have fun too, not to just manage. It's so frustrating whenever I want to be a leader, or a medic and to have 1000's of kids yapping at my toes. You're expected to babysit. To do their wishes. You only matter as a major because you're needed. Something else with these "experienced roleplays" is the cliques. People form friend groups, that's natural. But if it's a game where people are SUPPOSED to chat and cooperate, what's the point if you don't include them too? Those prophecy plots? It's only fun if you're the main character. People who join later are confused, or you get shoved into the back. And when the rules are established? NOBODY upholds them after 10 minutes. I'm tired of seeing people sitting in the clearing, or moping around alone. I'll admit I'm quite guilty sitting by myself, but at some point you'll need to get thing going with one or more people. You'll eventually get demotivated from loneliness. Another thing, "exp" people. (Or cats, per say.) It frustrates me to see people using these unnecessarily lengthy words to describe something. Incandescent, tarsal bones, premolars, dentations, all of that bullshit-you don't need those words when people can't even understand you. Recently, I got some real good advice from a mentor. Good writing doesn't involve using these long words. If they aren't in your everyday vocabulary? Just don't. Don't use them. You come off as arrogant and show offish. (Unless that's how you intend to display yourself.) Good writing involves clarity, making things CLEAR for other people. Instead of using words only Shakespear would use, why not describe your surroundings in your descriptions? Other cats? Going in depth with thoughts? If you want to go the route where you're using complicated vocabulary, at least research the words you want to use. Again, I'm guilty for this phase.

My partner was telling me about how she was auditioning for medic, and the person auditioning posted this question: "What herb tastes tangy and bitter?" (or something of the like.) It was yarrow. At least according to a quick search- it's supposed to taste like licorice. I'm convinced clan founders auditioning medics are making shit up. What herb is this? What herb is that? The more "experienced" players lean towards out of game herbs, and it gives an unfair advantage for players wanting that role. I don't have time in my day to study herbs like I'm studying for my exams. The "unexperienced" players (maybe this can also be for everyone) have problems too, I'm not going to just complain about the veteran members. HARASSMENT. There's those people who shoo spectators away like pests. It's a public server. It isn't YOUR clan, let them exist. It pisses me off when they're so abrupt and arrogant about it. If you ask? Maybe they'd be more willing to move away. It also sucks when there is a valid roleplay with specific lore, and (agreeable) rules to follow, and people insert themselves like they're the main character. No, SpeckledPelt you can't have the leader role just because you equipped the icon. No BloodBush (fuck you, specifically), you wanted to join the clan; don't boss the host around when they're trying to set things up for you. I miss the WCUE where we didn't have to be so choosey about the people we appoint for roles. I miss the WCUE where we can be silly and fun, without having to feel sophisticated. Sure maybe the name "MochaHeart" is a little wacky, but at least they're doing their best to roleplay. To have fun.

Marinette sat at her desk, a stack of colorful envelopes scattered in front of her. Each one bore Chat's distinctive handwriting and a playful drawing of him winking up at her. It had become a tradition between them—writing letters to each other as a way to express thoughts that they couldn't say out loud.

It had all started one rainy afternoon when Marinette found a small note tucked under her school books. It was from Chat, a simple "Hope this brightens your day, purrincess" scrawled across the paper. Inside, a tiny origami black cat grinned up at her.

He must have written it when he had come over the other night, though she couldn’t imagine when he had managed to find the time to do so. After all, they had spent most of that night just giggling and talking. Still, that didn’t stop Marinette from clutching the letter to her chest happily. 

From that day on, they began exchanging notes regularly. At first, it was light-hearted banter and small encouragement after extremely time-consuming and exhausting exams. Chat would leave letters hidden in the most unexpected places—under her sketchbook, inside her locker (which she still couldn’t figure out how he got into), and one had even been attached to a croissant from the bakery.

Marinette, in turn, began to respond with her own letters, filled with gratitude and playful retorts. She would leave them for Chat to find, sometimes folded into intricate shapes like a tiara or macaroon.

It had become a game to them, one she began to eagerly look forward to every night. She loved teasing him about the location of the latest letter. Especially if she had hidden it away well enough that he was unable to find it right away. It had very quickly become the best part of her day.

And so, as Marinette gazed at the stack of envelopes she had from Chat because of course, she kept every single one of them, she couldn't help but smile. Their letters were more than words on paper—they were a testament to the bond they shared. The bond that was growing so strong that she was soon finding that she was unable to stop herself from harboring just a small crush on him. It made so much sense, after all. It seemed almost impossible for her to not after reading all of the sweet words he had written to her.

As the weeks passed, Marinette found herself eagerly anticipating each new letter from Chat Noir. His words were a ray of sunshine in her sometimes chaotic life. She cherished the moments of connection they shared through their secret correspondence, each letter deepening her admiration for the mysterious hero.

One evening, after a particularly challenging day of dealing with Chloé's antics and trying to keep up with her latest design projects, Marinette found a letter from Chat tucked underneath her pillow. He must have placed it there a while ago when they had one of their sleepovers. She smiled as she read his words, feeling a warmth spread through her heart.

Marinette felt her cheeks flush as she read his praise. It was moments like these that made her feel truly special like Chat saw something in her that others might overlook. She wrote a quick reply, expressing her gratitude and sharing a bit about her day.

Their letters continued to grow in number as they continued their little tradition. Chat's words lifted her spirits during moments of doubt, and Marinette found herself confiding in him more than she had ever thought possible. It was much easier to talk with him behind the mask. There was less terror that she would end up giving her identity away when she was Marinette. They shared secrets and dreams, their bond growing stronger with each exchanged letter.

One night, as Marinette sat by her window, watching the stars twinkle in the sky, she began to scribble down a letter filled with honesty and vulnerability.

Dearest Chaton,

I want to thank you for being there for me, even when you don't realize it. Your letters mean the absolute world to me, and I feel like I can be myself when I write to you. There's something special about our connection, something I can't quite put into words. I hope you feel the same.

She tucked her letter away into an envelope, feeling a sense of both anticipation and nervousness. This was the most honest that she had ever been with him about her feelings. She only hoped that his reaction upon reading it would be a positive one. 

Days passed, and Marinette's heart raced every time she heard a noise on her balcony, wondering if it was Chat coming to read her letter. Finally, one evening, she heard a very familiar thump on her balcony.

Marinette's heart skipped a beat as she craned her ears to listen for the usual footsteps on her balcony. Not wanting to wait any longer, she scrambled for her trapdoor, her pulse quickening with excitement and a hint of nervousness. Could it be her Chaton coming over to finally read her letter?

Sure enough, as she pushed open her balcony’s trapdoor, she saw him standing there, his silhouette outlined against the moonlit sky. He glanced around as if searching for something before his gaze finally landed on her. His gaze brightened as soon as she saw her and she couldn’t help herself from beaming back at him.

"Hey there, purrincess!" Chat's voice carried the usual cheerful tone, but Marinette couldn't help noticing a hint of eagerness in his eyes. Could he be as excited for her letter as she was?

"Chaton!" Marinette greeted him, trying to contain her excitement. "What brings you here tonight?"

Chat chuckled, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Oh, just felt like dropping by. You know, I was in the neighborhood," he said with a wink.

Marinette couldn't help but smile at his playful demeanor. "Well, I'm glad you're here. Is there something you wanted to talk about?"

Chat glanced around the balcony, his gaze lingering on the various hiding spots where Marinette had often hidden letters for him. "Actually, I was wondering if you had any new letters for me. I mean, I always look forward to your messages."

Marinette's heart fluttered at his words. "Um, yeah.” She chuckled softly, tapping her index fingers together. “I actually do have something for you. But you’ll need to find it first." She winked back over at him.

“Mmm, would it be up here?” he hummed, raising a brow at her playfully.

“Purrhaps,” she responded, rocking back on her heels.

Quickly, he dove for one of her potted plants as he scoured the inside of it. Marinette giggled softly as she watched him. Did he always have to be so cute?

“Not in there,” she sang, teasing him with a wide smile.

He narrowed his eyes at her before his gaze drifted over to her small table. In an instant, they sparkled over at her knowingly. Carefully, he plucked the lid off of her tea kettle and fished inside, pulling out the small letter.

“How did you find that so quickly?” She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms against her chest. Marinette huffed quietly, scuffing at the ground with the sole of her shoe. She had hoped it would have taken him at least a little longer.

“I know you too well, I guess purrincess.” Eagerly, his gloved fingers traced over the envelope. Chat ran his fingers along the calligraphy of his name as he eyed it admiringly. "A new letter though, huh? Can't wait to read it!" He flashed her a bright smile before carefully opening the envelope.

As he read her heartfelt words, Marinette watched him intently, trying to gauge his reaction. She couldn't help but feel a mix of anticipation and apprehension. Would he understand her feelings? Would he feel the same way? Or, would he laugh at her for even trying to tell him?

After what felt like an eternity, Chat looked up from the letter, his eyes meeting hers. There was a softness in his gaze, a depth of emotion that made Marinette's heart race even faster.

"Marinette," Chat began, his voice gentle and sincere. "Your letter... It was so sweet. I feel the exact same way about our connection. It's something special. Something that’s beyond words for me too."

Marinette felt a rush of relief and joy flood through her. She had revealed the smallest hint of her newfound feelings towards him, and he had responded with exactly what she had needed him to. It was a moment she would treasure forever. And maybe... maybe someday, she’d be able to tell him that she loved him too.

"Thank you, mon Chaton," Marinette said softly, her eyes shimmering with emotion. "For being you, for being here. Just like always. You have no idea just how much this meant to me."

Chat grinned, his eyes twinkling in the moonlight. He tugged her closer to him as he pulled her into a tight hug. "Always, Marinette. I'll always be here for you."

And as they stood there on her balcony, beneath the starry sky, Marinette felt like she was slowly growing. That she was getting past all of her fears and worries about needing to know every single little minute detail about her crushes that Chloé had instilled in her. And, of course, it was Chat that was helping her slowly get past this.

Gladiator Big Talk: Foundations, White

So on the gladiator discord, (Gladiator is a competitive singleton format using the Timeless card pool on arena and you should check us out, it's great) I do a series of long, hastily written thoughts on every single new-to-arena card, and Foundations is looking to be a very big set for us, with 4 different products that each introduce new cards into the format, so I'm going to start putting them here. Some notes before we start:

This is comprehensively talking about every single new-to-arena card in the main set of Foundations. If I don't bring up a card, it's probably because it's already in the format or in Jumpstart Foundations, which I'll cover later.

I'm sorting this by collector number, which, for this set is somewhat baffling, so Ctrl+F is your friend if you want to find a specific thought.

Each card is also a link to it on scryfall, so you can follow along without having the full set open.

Without further ado, let's start off with Arahbo, the First Fang:

Arahbo, the First Fang: I love Arahbo's vibes so much and if you're dedicated it can certainly be good enough for a Cat typal deck. Ultimately, that’s all this kind of design is here for, but it’s still cool in that space and I want to explore the deck now.

Armasaur Guide: This is the first of many limited commons that are fully unplayable in this format, so I’m gonna grade them on vibes. This lil guy gets a vibes grade of B-, cute, nice flavor, but also too beeg and not silly enough to go the extra mile.

Cat Collector: I’m gonna disparage a card for being a bad version of an effect with “When ~ enters, make a food” later on but I do think life gain = token is a slot that does exist in the food deck if maybe only a little bit, so I’m a lot more hopeful about the old cat lady <3

Celestial Armor: I’m more of a fan of Maul of the Skyclaves, and I really appreciate this being both a protection spell and slotting in as a stoneforge payoff without removing too much of what made maul good. That said, Maul giving first strike is no joke, but I think Celestial Armor’s versatility might push it into decks where Maul wouldn’t.

Claws Out: I think you need 2-3 cats consistently to be happy playing this, and even then it’s not a great reason to play more cats than necessary. This effect is just too medium for gladiator these days.

Crystal Barricade: I was pretty down on this card, but I might try it in ruin your evening despite it not progressing the board much. Being a flagbearer that doesn't die to bolt is very nice. At the same time though, this does nothing at all so it’s probably just bad.

Dauntless Veteran: The fact that this attacks as a 3/3 minimum is cute, but it’s just a bit too low-impact for a 3 drop these days.

Dazzling Angel: This is roughly second to last on our Soul Warden tier list, and I’m of the opinion that we should be drinking pretty shallowly from that well even in the decks that lean into that aspect a lot, so a somewhat vulnerable 3 drop one is suspect. Flying is also not that much of a benefit, since your soul wardens shouldn’t be touching the red zone unless in emergencies.

Divine Resilience: I think this is a classic example of charmitis, where added versatility comes at the cost of neither option being actually individually enticing. I like my versatility, but I want to feel good about casting any one part of a card, and the base level is ok, but nothing I would actually slot in a deck these days.

Exemplar of Light: Flying Ajani’s Pridemate is already tempting, but one that also draws you a card when you do or put a counter on it otherwise makes the draw big for a deck like BW ruin your evening, but on the other hand that deck has limited room for stuff with MV more than 3.

Felidar Savior: Hey there Basri’s Acolyte, how you doing ‘n how you been? I see, Basri’s kind of been a deadbeat for the past while and after having a reception as lukewarm as Teyo’s, felt it best to sit to the wayside this time round? That’s alright, we’re still happy to have his favorite cat around. Did you get a haircut? Oh an easier mana cost, that’s cute. I’m happy for you, it looks good on you. Yeah, I didn’t want to beat around the bush either, but I just wanted to see how’re you’re doing before I let you know again that you’re great for limited but we just don’t need you in any decks round here right now, sorry. Yeah, of course, any time you make your way around a standard set again, we’ll be right here still. Hey, tell Basri I said hi, ok?

Fleeting Flight: This card is better than it looks, by a decent amount, at least in the sense that it does 3 different things that are separately each not worth a card, but doing 3 of them makes it a lot closer. That said, unless your deck wants specifically +1/+1 counter and flying, you will be disappointed sleeving this one up. Even if you’re in that niche, this is an ultimately small effect and you need to be going a lot taller than is probably wise into solitudes and paths right now.

Guarded Heir: I think it’s interesting that this doesn’t make the iconic 2/2 with Vigilance, but this is essentially 2 blade splicers which frankly could be a lot worse.

Hare Apparent: So uh. This card is kind of cracked in many, many multiples. That said, I’m doubtful we have both the ways to capitalize on its effects and also the ratio to maximize hares and payoffs. It’s a super interesting proposition, though, and I think it’s more likely than not that the card has some great potential.

Helpful Hunter: I am always glad to get more Visionaries at 2, so always welcome. I feel like most decks on companion though have some incidental enchantment synergies and it might lead to hunter getting pushed out more.

Herald of Eternal Dawn: Now when's the Krumar of Eternal Dawn? Real talk though this just seems like a not great thing to cheat out when we've got elenda and atraxa and the like, yknow. There is a fun gotcha element to this having flash, but the reality is that the flash won’t actually come into play in decks that would be slotting Herald in.

Inspiring Paladin: Welcome back to buff dog alert, where we let you know the latest in upgrades to cards previously depicted as dogs. This episode, Ainok Bond-Kin! Now it’s 1 more cost, +1/+2, innately has first strike (on attacks), but has the downside of telling you to attack, you idiot, why would you waste attackers with first strike?! Which is a real downside, but not like that much to be fair. 

Joust Through: This is a good 3rd option for Elspeth’s Smite, and I like the push to having spells that previously would have abstract bonuses (exiling instead, conditional pluses, etc) now getting tangible bonuses that always apply. It doesn’t make this one better than smite, but it does make it more interesting.

Luminous Rebuke: The vibes are brought down a lot by this being a functional reprint, but they are brought up a bit by two very brave lil guys, which i really appreciate. Vibes grade: B++

Prideful Parent: Very cute, not for us. Vibes report: A- ; The hardest part of parenting is not reacting with either a “you fucking idiot” or “oh my god you’re so cute” to your child doing something dumb as hell, and you know what they’re killing it.

Raise the Past: I loved Rally the Ancestors way too much for my own good, and wowie zowie this is so much better for “fair” strategies like Ruin your evening or WBx Aristocrats. This might not have the juice to last too long, but I’m excited to see where it goes regardless.

Skynight Squire: Being a on-rate creature that grows with creatures entering is really hype, and this gets into the air really quickly. I think this will go into particularly go-wide or counters style decks, but I wouldn’t slot it in unless you’re confident it’s going to fly fast.

Squad Rallier: We have a Savannah Lions with nearly the same text lmao i’m not playing a 4 drop version of this. Vibes report: C-, the bird’s not doing anything for me here, and I like goofy birds.

Sun-Blessed Healer: Yo this card is kinda messed up. 3/1 is much better than 2/3 for a lot of decks wanting to push damage (compare to Phyrexian Missionary) and reanimating any <=2 drop to the field gives incredible energy to Ruin Your Evening, where the first Luminarch Aspirant or Thalia is answerable but the second is much more annoying to beat.

Twinblade Blessing: Double Strike auras have traditionally been quite bad, but this one is the first with flash, and that can change quite a lot. That said, I think this is still just not worth a slot in constructed formats.

Valkyrie’s Call: I haven’t seen that one moth that reanimates your non-fliers when they die in a good deal of time, and this is much, much worse in the sense that it doesn’t impact the board the turn it comes in and costs quite a lot.

Vanguard Seraph: This card seems cool as heck in limited and I love surveiling in white, but Vibes Report: B, I love the aesthetics of Zendikari angels and the halo just always does it for me.

Ajani, Caller of the Pride: 3 mana planeswalkers from before the pandemic are weird bc they're either the most unfun, bonkers bs to deal with or just don't do anything remotely close to what a planeswalker wants to do. This guy is in the latter camp.

Angel of Finality: I'm stoked this is uncommon now but it's a classic nothing special

Savannah Lions: A classic, play it in cats

Ancestor Dragon: You know I think this isn’t that horrible in all honesty, frankly to my surprise. Do I think it’s playable? God no, but it’s more playable than you think. A little.

Ingenious Leonin: Glad we have it now, but yeah it's bad

Jazal Goldmane: Jazal is very cool but like it also suffers from medium idiot syndrome, where it's really only good if you're ahead enough to play a 4/4for4 with 2 relevant words of text.

Leonin Skyhunter: We've outclassed this in the past few years but it's still a cool add.

Angelic Destiny: I think this card has dropped a lot in my eyes from when it was first seen in M12, where it demands your opponent give you an opening, and when the creature you suit up inevitably dies, it asks you to pay a lot of mana to get back to that state. Additionally, we have so much removal that exiles these days, that I’m wary to include this into a really competitive slot.

Ballyrush Banneret: This is one to keep an eye on, because once we have cards like Captain of the Watch that really push a bunch of soldiers out, I could see this making the cut eventually.

Crusader of Odric: These kinds of creatures are really hard to be worth the work in singleton, and this one also doesn’t do anything to reward you other than being a big idiot.

Dawnwing Marshal: 2/2 fliers for 2 are always something to pique the interest, but I think we’re at the point where we need slightly more going for it.

Felidar Cub: Were you playing Ronom Unicorn? Didn’t think so.

Stasis Snare: Ah, the good ol days where Banishing light was too good for common so they made medium sidegrades of it forever until they gave up and put it at common.

Hinterland Sanctifier: Wake up babe new Soul Warden dropped! This is a big W for the decks that were playing all the bad versions of this effect, and I’m so happy for them.

One thing I really like about this universe is even if Tigerclaw got away with everything and became leader like he wanted, his ending in the epilogue would have been the same. You can’t hide from what you’ve done, no matter how just you think you are, or if no one else knows. no one is exempt from the passage of time or dying, so eventually he would have had to accept consequences for his actions. Thankfully for the clans, he got both living and afterlife punishments, before he could inflict even more damage.

It’s also very intriguing he thought anyone, especially Horua’s warriors, would see any of his actions in a good light. Goes to show how people can believe their own lies. Even the ghost cats themselves said he wasn’t being fully honest with himself. A lot of people think they’re acting in self righteous or martyr-like ways, but the reality is they’re doing what they want. A ‘lipstick on the pig’ moment.

His subtle manipulation to himself and the clan while on trial was neat too. ‘Everything I’ve done I’ve done for you’ is something every abuser, narcissist, or general piece of shit has said to try escape accountability and the reality of what they’ve done.

Amazing epilogue <3 my heart breaks for goldenflower. I’m glad that even if thinking about him isn’t really allowed, that’s she’s doing it anyway as that’s what’s best for her to handle her grief <3

Tigerclaw really did have himself fooled. He was living in this fantasy land where everything was going downhill and it would be the end of ThunderClan unless he stepped in as the hero and fixed it all. I've said in a previous as that he thought he thought of himself as a humble warrior just doing good work, but you can't truly think that if you're always dreaming of the day you become a legendary leader and save your Clan single-handedly. He mourned when a Clanmate died or got hurt by his actions, sure, but he figured he could make up for their death by being a better leader, and they'd understand if they were still alive.

Horoa and his Hunters just happen to think differently.
