In case anyone was wondering how I've been holding up for the last *checks watch* 5 years of burnout recovery

I do eventually want to get back into comic journaling; unfortunately drawing still makes me want to rip off my own skin a lot of the time, but hey at least I did something...? baby steps

unsure whether I should dust off my old @adventuresinnarcissism journal comic blog or just stick to posting them here. I guess we'll see

You know what would be cruel? Emilia learning about RBD but being bound by the same taboo as subaru, to the point where she can't even tell HIM...

I mean imagine, even if she doesn't remember the loops herself, knowing what he has gone through, what he IS going through and not being able to talk to him about it.

Not being able to console him.

Not being able to help him at all.

What if it's a normal peaceful day, she was, before she took this short break, diligently learning advanced diplomatic strategies, all in order to become the rightful ruler of Lugunica one day.

But right now, she is just a girl, enjoying her break time in a neat little pavilion in the manors garden,

with the man she loves.

He is telling of some comedic series of unfortunate happenstances that ended with his father accidentally punching a hole through his door.

But in the middle of it, he stops, she looks up to him and halts her breath.

A sudden look of absolute terror across his face, his breath stopped and hands shaking.

And then it's gone, not completely, of course. He looks to be out of breath, hands not quite still and it takes him a second too long to get his smile back on. A second too late for her not to notice.

Despite the boys' fear wrought expression just a second ago, it is actually quite hard to tell who is in more agony right now, since the look of utter helplessness on Emilias face could not even show a sliver of her true emotions at this moment.

She wants to call out to him, to tell him it will be okay, to tell him they can figure it out together but then the fear grips her before the words even make it to her tongue. The curse that wrenches her heart hasn't even activated. It is quite simply the fear itself that paralysis her, no taboo necessary.

Is it not cruel? To deny her the closeness to him by silencing her? To isolate even the pain they feel lest they share it?

She is disgusted by herself, to be so afraid of simple pain as not to be able to reach out to him like he did that day many months ago. Like he has done so many times since then.

No, this time she won't falter, she won't give in. She will talk to him, she will help him, comfort him. She will save him this time, she is sure of it.

But this time, instead of pain, the taboo took something— someone very precious away from her.

And the cycle begins anew.

Just finished MADK by ryo suzuri. this series has such a special place in my heart, it really showed me how far you can push a story and certain kinks. plus it’s just a deeply erotic and enticing piece of literature, from the art style to the dialogue, even the way the pages flow, it’s entrancing, it’s a page turner, it’s perfect.

The themes of this series are fairly straight forward, cycles of violence, hunger, what it means to love or hate and the power it has over you.

I think makoto was such a unique and interesting character, the way he wanted so deeply to not hurt anyone, but he was also filled with a horrible need to do exactly that, he gets off on it. Watching him slowly be moulded and groomed by J, it was sick and perverted by it was also so gratifying at the same time. I really felt that frustration along side him as J toyed with him, pushing him to do exactly what he wanted. It’s also just cool to watch a shounen esque rise to power, but really lean into how horrible a character is becoming. But even becoming so horrible, we still saw bits of that boy who didn’t want to hurt people. We watched him claim to destroy and use those who showed him kindness as stepping stones towards his goal, and he most certainly was cruel to them, and did bad things to them, but in the end none of them were.. that much worse off? I don’t know, i’m also still fresh off reading and need to gather my thoughts more.

But the main thing was the ending, oh lord. It was so deeply unsatisfying in the most satisfying way. You know it can’t be a happy end, that Jonathan desperately wants to disappear, and yet as it happens you feel that frustration, you feel that pain Makoto is feeling. To be so hungry, and to never be filled, to stay in that cycle and no matter how you kick and scream, there’s no way out but to continue. it’s a truly evil, upsetting mindset to have.

Don’t know how to end this, as you can see it’s my first post. I’m trying to engage more deeply with the things i’m reading and actually put my thoughts into words, but i’m just starting out so this may just be garbage doodoo words, but i want to improve! so let’s talk if you disagree or have something to say about MADK!
