subarus rated based on how good of a roommate theyd be

main route: 8/10, he'd probably be chill and can also do chores (was a butler for a while). the downside would have to be the revolving door of weird fucking friends hed constantly have over. it would be fun, but sometimes you just wanna relax at home and the fucking sword saint is in your living room.

pride:if: 1/10, he'd be mostly unbearable on account of his numerous issues. almost everyone he knew ended up dead by the end so i don't like those odds. also doesnt help that hes in a cult

wrath:if: 2/10, every time you'd ask him to do the dishes he'd flip a coin to decide whether or not to kill you. but at least he makes a lot of money on account of being a mafia boss, so i'll add a point.

sloth:if: 9/10, he's a house husband he knows how to amicably live with other people- he even had a roommate while his wife was pregnant for a while and it went alright. the only reason i'm deducting a point is because the kids are probably coming with him.

greed:if: 5/10, things would seem to be going mostly alright, despite the darkness lurking within him. it's weird how much he knows about you, even though you aren't close. he talks like he's known you for his whole life, but he just moved in a few months ago. he's holding onto grudges and gratitudes, despite nothing of note happening. he always knows things before you tell him. he's never late on the rent, though.

gluttony:if: -10/10 unless you like being stabbed and turned into a book. even if he doesn't decide to kill you, it would be like having 10 roommates on account of the fact that all his friends that he killed live in his head now. and he'd pace around the house all day long talking to them about future murder plans. i dont want to be on the news.

butterfly dream: -1000000/10 get this nasty freak away from me. i need a restraining order, not to share an apartment.

mimagau:if: 8.5/10 literally the same thing as the main route, but i added half a point because i'm a feminist

school:if: 7/10: same thing as the main route again but i deducted a point because it's a different genre. in a slice of life comedy you can expect even stupider shenanigans to ruin your peaceful day.

And finally, last but certainly not least, our favorite loser cringefail time-traveler-by-dying-a-lot, Subaru!

Unsure how obvious it is, but a majority of the details in Subaru’s outfit are directly related to Homura’s outfit for what should be obvious reasons. Even his boots are based off of concept art from Homura’s outfit. I also wanted to give him almost a jester theme, which is most prominent in his pants, inspired by the fact that his tarot card from some of the special addition novels (iirc) is the fool card (I also gave him this theme, along with the design of his hood, to resemble a certain mega witch :) this is also the reasoning behind the prominent ‘gears’ motif in his weapon and soul gem design).

His weapon is a cat of nine tails whip based on the one he has in the novels and apparently season three according to the new trailer (hype!!!). Though it’s a cat of nine tails, it only has seven tails with stars at the end to represent his namesake. Stars are not only prominent in his weapon and soul gem design, but all of his design. In fact, I put several star motifs in all of the magi designs that I have done! If you have a keen eye you may have noticed that already! :)

And with Subaru’s design finished, I’m done with all of the magi designs I’m going to do! Finally! I may do aspects of the seven witches of sin’s designs in this au and definitely the characters’ individual witches at a later, more appropriate date, for the sake of not spoiling this au’s plot for anyone. And yes, I have decided to make this an official au after all! I will announce more information on this later on with a surprise for y’all, but for now this is the end of the magi design line up. But as a whole this is just the beginning… :)

I’ll say what I said in the Emilia design post again, but it really makes me happy even a few people love my ideas and designs so much, as cliché as it is to say. Really, thank you, it means the world to me :) I’m also excited and eagerly awaiting the upcoming results for the Re:Zero zine contributors, I can’t wait!

Thr thing about re:zero is its an explicitly feminist text thats perpusfully situated itself within a misogynistic genre. This means it has a weird audience. Especially since it doesn't immediately differentiate itself from its comparables. Subaru has a habit of dehumanizing woman. Even if he doesnt think them lesser than men. The Roswaal house looks like a harem on the surface. It gives visual noval vibes. Subaru himself likens finding Betty's library to "flag catching". Subaru's rbd makes the whole world sorta game like. BUT his time travel doesnt "get him the girl(s)" If anything it often makes his relationships worse. Bc the girls hes talking to are real people like him and will not always react as expected. Or the same way as before. And conversations cant be forced to follow the same path. On the suface it has all the halmarks of a normal harem isekai. But then it just isnt. And not just in the horror aspects. more importantly in the character aspects.
