Story Time: Goodra Pregnancy Scare

Listen, I'm a biologist who sometimes works as a midwife for pokemon laying eggs or giving birth. I know all about pokemon breeding and what to do if a pokemon is about to lay eggs, how to care for eggs, etc, etc.

Yet, one time my Goodra had a gravid scare (I thought she was going to lay eggs but it turns out she was just mimicking a gravid Heliolisk at the sanctuary to make her feel less scared, which is sweet, BUT I SURE AS HELL DIDN'T CONSIDER THAT) and, apparently, all my calm and knowledge was just CHUCKED out of the window. It was the first time a pokemon of mine was going to lay eggs. I needed to be PREPARED.

My goodra is mates with a male Dragonite and a male Garchomp, and I had no clue who the father was. So I just kept over preparing for both and doing my BEST to prepare for whatever outcome. I literally got my boss to make separate areas for them, "just in case."

I should mention that you can spay a Goodra, but it isn't as easy as spaying mammalian pokemon. Dragons are known for being more iffy with anesthetics, and I dont want anything to happen to her. Also, I do think she wants to be a mom someday. She enjoys playing and taking care of baby pokemon, but she is yet to have her own children. I think after she lays eggs, I'll get her spayed.

Back to the story!

After about 2 weeks of this, my boss got concerned (Goodra are gravid for 2 weeks before laying eggs) and when nothing changed, we took her to the vet to check. I spent all that time stressing, only for the vet to look me dead in eyes and say, "You're Goodra is faking it. There's nothing there."

So yeah. Thanks, Jellybean, for stressing me out for 2 weeks 🥲
