Sirius stood against the wall of the party, not really paying all that much attention to his surroundings as he thought through everything that had happened.

“What? Are you ashamed to be fucking seen with me?”

“Why the hell would I be-“

“You clearly have a lot of internalised bullshit to work your way through, but I’m not letting you make me feel like nothing on your way to sort yourself out.”

Sirius glanced across the room, finally spotting Remus.

Flirting with Edgar fucking Bones.

Sirius couldn’t tear his eyes away as Edgar put his hand on Remus’ arm, touching him, putting his bloody hands on him. Some possessive part of Sirius reared its ugly head then, wanting to go and shove Edgar away and snog Remus senseless, but no.

He couldn’t, because Remus was right.

He was too scared.

Remus’ eyes moved outwards, making direct eye contact with Sirius. Something seemed to switch in him and, without breaking eye contact, he wrapped his arm around Edgar’s waist, pulled him in and kissed him, finally shutting his eyes and turning away.

It was like a car crash in Sirius’ mind. He couldn’t look away as his world came crumbling down around him, because that’s what Remus was.

Remus was his world.

And he was too much of a fucking coward to do anything about it.

Well, every argument had to have its climax.
