SPOILERS FOR SEASON FINALE/Theories for next season
HUGE SPOILERS FOR THE FINALE. PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION (only read after you have read the season finale, you have been warned)
I wanna talk about my theory of Buddy stealing Chase's narratonin this whole time. After re-reading some eps, there are some clues I gathered (This turned out to be a mix of observations put together, some sort of character analysis and a few theories. It also turned out to be very long, so Buckle up!)
I apologize in advance for any mistakes, English is not my first language. I also apologize if people in the past have made similar theories, I would not want to get repetitive, but I have not come across any similar posts so far
Now without any further ado, I am ready to share my super long CB essay.
-First and foremost, we have seen Chase feeling down for getting so little narratonin compared to Deacon and Prunella. If Nox can track Chase in every book, he might be able to steal his narratonin too. Since he is some sort of key, he might not be able to earn it on his own.Îs stated by Silver, only humans are able to earn it. Even if Nox seems to be different from the other keys, he might still be sharing some specific traits with them ( just like how he knows how every story is supposed to go by the time he enters it, which is another trait of the keys).
-When Nox met Chase for the first time,he seemed enraged and was the most aggressive we have ever seen him. After seeing a glimpse of his circumstances in the finale,we can assume that anyone in his shoes would be desperate to achieve their goals. Nox comes off as a perfectionist and control freak and Chase being in the equation obviously wasn't in his initial plans, whatever those were,so I believe his aggressive attitude during their first meeting stemmed from his desperation to take control of the situation.
-When Nox grabs Chase by the collar during their first meeting,he makes sure to take a good look at Silver.Nox knows that the key is merely a symbol around his neck and that the real key is in the real world, that gives me the impression that he was aware of the crack and he wanted to check on Silverâs condition.
-Nox said that Chase was wasting his time and to quote him"after all that and it's just a small weak little thing like you".The way he phrased that showcased two things. Firstly,he hints that he (either directly or indirectly) has been planning carefully towards his intended goal and putting a lot of effort into it,but Chase's presence stands in the way as he doesn't deem him worthy to possess a key. Secondly,it shows that he didn't think that Chase was good enough for whatever job the person who was supposed to find Silver had to do.But, his opinion on Chase seems to change during the toffee break arc when he starts considering him useful. By that moment, it seems that Nox had already been making adjustments to his plans and adding Chase into the equation. This brings me to my next point.
-At first, Nox was really determined to get Chase out of the books, but in the cinderfella arc he was willing to come to an agreement, why the sudden change in attitude? I think that's the point where he started to make adjustments to his plans and decided to add Chase in them without Chase's knowledge. In other words,he decided to use Chase so he could carry on with his plans. Also, Nox never leaves a story first, could it be because there have to be conditions met so he can steal Chase's narratonin? Maybe this is why he insists on Chase following the stories and completing them. He can't earn narratonin on his own, so he needs someone else to complete the story for him. If certain conditions are not met, he can not steal it. This means their bet during that arc could be some sort of way for Nox to test Chase, and see if he is suitable for his plans and whether he can ensure that Chase meets the necessary conditions for Nox to steal the narratonin. This would explain his pensive expression by the end of ep 7. He doesn't seem to want an innocent person to get involved in any of this, which could mean that his aggressive attitude at first could be a mix of desperation to regain control and also an attempt to protect an outsider that has no idea what he got himself into. However, since his attempts to kick Chase out of the books proved to be unsuccessful,he had no choice but to revise his plans and include Chase instead. Ultimately,Chase was a stranger to him and the stakes seemed too high for Nox to show any consideration for Chase. From Noxâs perspective, Chase is an outsider whose intentions Nox found difficult to trust. Nox always made assumptions about Chase, believing him to be incompetent, a quitter and even dishonest and underhanded. It is possible that Nox held onto these beliefs as if he wanted to create a narrative in which Chase was not a good person, convincing himself to adhere to this perspective while not wanting to give Chase the chance to prove him wrong.
-Back in the beach boys arc,I think that at the time when Nox was hypnotising info out of Chase, it was for his own personal purposes and not because someone in a higher rank forced him to do so. First of all, if a magical, evil organisation had lost some of their precious artifacts, you would think they would put more effort into getting them back.Especially if they knew that two keys are actively being used by two young boys. If Nox was Indeed an agent sent to retrieve the keys,he sure would not be the best one at his job as he not only doesn't show results, but he actually lets the boys use the keys despite his threatening attitude, which means that Nox is operating on his own with the help of Violet and presumably the aid of other keys(?). Thus, ex libris doesn't know that Nox is going into books and a part of Nox does seem to want Chase to continue with the stories so he can fulfill his plans. For the reasons mentioned above,I think when Buddy tried to get info out of Chase in that arc, it wasn't because he was forced and, we also know that he personally wouldn't be able to go where Chase lives (not when he is smaller than the chocolate bars he likes to eat),but it was because of his own curiosity about Chase (cause he was starting to warm up to him a bit at that point) and probably in order to shake off any possible guilt he might have felt about using Chase. His goal was to convince himself that Chase was indeed like any other human he has met beforeâ selfish,a liar and manipulative and he wanted to convince himself that if given the chance,Chase would also use him,but Chase keeps proving him the opposite, slowly changing Noxâs view on the world cause he teaches him that there can be honesty, there can be kindness, there can be selflessness.
- Now I previously said that Nox is most likely not forced to work for Ex Libris, but he did mention that there is an old man that shouldn't notice that there is something missing. That gives us two pieces of information. 1) Even if Nox is not under constant supervision,he isn't free either.2)I assume that what's missing is not only Silver (and some other keys, but I will get back to that later),but also the ripped page that was within the book that Chase found, because the comic cuts off to a panel of a book with a ripped page back in ep 3. It is impossible that Nox was the one that put Silver and the page in the library, unless he can control his height and is allowed outside which I doubt, cause what would be the point of all this, then? Still, the book was obviously put there on purpose by someone and even had the words "read me" as if meant to capture one's attention. It was most likely a sign for someone to recognise it and take it.But who? All I can think of is that either Nox, or someone in a similar situation as Nox,had the chance to get in contact with someone of the outside world that could help them, cause if the person that was meant to find Silver was someone within the organisation ,why would they need instructions on how the keys work?Nox seems to know plenty about the keys and I assume anyone in the same situation as him would too(or it could be because Violet shared all the information she has about the keys). This crosses out the theory of that person being part of the organisation and leaves us with the assumption that the person intended to find Silver was either an outsider, or someone with limited knowledge of the keys and the organisation. This theory gives me the chance to talk about the flyers about the keys that are all over the town. I doubt that it is Ex Libris, though it is a possibility, but if it was Indeed them behind the flyers, why do they look for a set of missing keys and not mention the exact number of the keys that are missing? Maybe because the person that posted the flyers doesn't know how many keys there are, maybe it is someone with limited knowledge that would need instructions on how to use the keys. That makes me think that the person that posted the flyers is the person that was supposed to find Silver (and maybe other keys as well), but they were late as someone else had already found them. After that, they put up flyers with rewards in hopes to find the keys.As the reward seems to be high,we could assume that this person is rich and might have some sort of power which is why their help would be of use to Nox.
-Finally, concerning the old man I have the following theory. I personally think that ex libris is not an active organisation anymore. It might have faded away over the years and that old man that Nox mentioned is perhaps a descendant of a high ranking member that discovered its archives and rebuilt it or is attempting to rebuild it on his own terms. In dreams by night, we see Nox dressed as if he's a captive trying to escape. This leads me to think that the old man from whom Nox is trying to run away,in his attempt to rebuild the organisation, established some kind of institution as a frontâperhaps an orphanage or a facility meant to help kids and young adults without homes or families to turn to. Such a set-up would make it easier to exploit them without anyone noticing or searching for them. I feel that Nox likely grew up in this newly established organisation, having no family of his own, which explains why he knows so much about the keys and ex Libris,as well why he is now wary of others. His trust was likely betrayed when a place meant to help him turned out to be using him.The theory that the organisation is no longer active can be supported by the fact that when Silver awoke, she didn't seem to recognise the style clothing from today's era (unless ex libris had some sort of dress code to enhance the cult like Vibeâwhich I understand, cause if I was running an evil organisation I would totally have a dress code) or any of the technologies (But this could also be because the keys were too restricted). Additionally, the book shown in ep 3 (I think), from which a page is missing,is likely the same ripped page that explains how the keys work. This suggests the book might be a set of records intended for future use,as members of ex libris would already know how to use the keys. Also,as mentioned above,Nox and violet are not shown to be strictly supervised. An organisation with the profile of Ex Libris wouldn't go too long without using the keys or allowing them to be awake, which means that the old man's priorities may lie somewhere else for the time being instead of using the keys or even tracking them. There's a possibility he hasn't noticed that Silver is missing or maybe he doesn't care enough to try and retrieve her. If we accept the theory of ex libris being inactive for years,it would be logical if some keys were lost over those years and it would be too hard to find them now,so the old man instead of looking for them is trying to replace the missing ones by experimenting on humans (Nox's case? He seems to be a replacement for the villain key)
-Before I reach my final point, I wanna talk about ââDreams by nightââ because it has been on my mind A LOT.When Nox looks at the mirror, he sees his own reflection with an expression that seems both surprised and contemplative,as if he is summoning courage. This could signify that Nox is presenting a facade or some sort of persona to survive, implying that his current self is not who he is supposed or wants to be. He desires to leave this part of himself behind and change. This idea is reinforced when he picks up a clock, determined to break the mirror. However, then he notices that the reflection has changedâit is now Chase. This could symbolise that, in order to escape, Nox feels he has to use Chase, which explains his guilty look and apologetic behaviour.Alternatively, Nox seeing Chase in the mirror could indicate that he sees Chase as a reflection of himself, or rather as someone onto whom he projects his own shortcomings/perception of himself (it is not uncommon for people in dysfunctional environments to see themselves in a bad light). Now Nox is forced to face an uncomfortable truth about himself as Chaseâs presence could be bringing to light suppressed feelings and emotions. At the same time, Chaseâs reflection could represent someone that Nox aspires/wishes to beâ someone who lives freely, enjoys a normal life and has the luxury of being a kind and genuine person without any ulterior motives. Chase is a person who is authentic, like an open book. He is not restricted or forced to put up a front. This could be the kind of traits Nox would want to have had he not been in the situation he is. To achieve his desired life,Nox realises he has to break the mirror, but he is also aware that doing so will end up hurting Chase in the process of fulfilling his wish. However, on a more positive note, since Punko mentioned in her creatorâs note that dreams are not always what they seem, the destruction of the mirror might foreshadow the collapse of Noxâs villainous persona, allowing him to transform into his desired version of himself. Chase might serve as the catalyst of this change, pushing Nox toward a positive change.
- Last but not least, when it comes to the keys we know for sure that some of them have gone missing. What bothers me is Silver's crack back in the beginning of the story and why Nox seems to be replacing the villain key. We have seen that keys can suffer damages if a book is destroyed or in the process of being destroyed. Maybe something went wrong the last time Silver and the original villain key were in a book and as a result, Silver was cracked, while the villain key was damaged beyond repair, which is why Nox is replacing him. In the ââstill watersââ arc, Nox said ââI have never seen it attempted on a damaged bookââ to Chaseâs question of whether completing the story would get them out. This leaves room to interpret that he has seen keys being stuck in a damaged book before. (The original villain key and possibly Silver as I mentioned which is why he checked her condition upon his first meeting with Chase).
It is also noteworthy that when Chase found Silver, she was not rusty like Bronze and Goldie. Does the rusty condition of Bronze and Goldie suggest that they have been lost for a longer time than Silver? On the other hand, if we accept the theory that that one time Bronze visited a book ,Nox appeared and decided to leave the book in fear of being recognised when he saw Bronze was the one who entered, it could mean that Bronze and Goldie know Nox, so there is also a chance they were not lost a long time ago after all. What seems to be true is that someone intended for Silver to be found, while Bronze and Goldie were probably lost/scattered. Maybe someone wanted to prevent an abuse of power and prevent a wish from being made, so they stole some keys since all 12 need to be present for a wish.
Long theory less long,I think Nox is a captive in a shady organisation run by the old man he mentioned. This new group somehow discovered Ex Libris and what they used to do with the keys, so now they want to use magical items for their own purposes by experimenting on other humans. In an attempt to escape, Nox came up with a plan involving Silver and Violet, but things didn't go as planned cause he would not have guessed that on a random summer day, Chase would stumble upon Silver in a dull library, giving him the opportunity for a miracle to save his mom,all while being completely unaware of the chaos unfolding behind the scenes. Also, in ââdreams by nightââ the image of Nox breaking the mirror, where Chaseâs reflection appears and it causes him to apologise, could also be a metaphor for Nox using Chase and stealing his narratonin in order to escape. This is why we see Nox passing through the mirror after shattering it, because he has no choice but to use Chase so he can be free and he feels guilty about it.However, now he seems reluctant to carry on with his plans as he realised his feelings for Chase. It is also heavily implied that Chase makes his motivation of turning back into a human stronger, so he might need to have a change of plans in order to avoid hurting Chase. (It is a nice parallel of trust between Nox and Chase, as this time it is Nox who needs to prove his trust in Chase. He was recently hurt that Chase kept a secret from him,but now it seems he will be the one to reveal a secret he has been keeping and I feel Silverâs letter to Violet will play a role in that).
This is just a theory, a Cinderella boy theory⌠( that could turn out to be a total bunch of nonsense, but it was still fun to write). if you read this far, thank you so much for your time, hereâs a virtual cake-> đ§ to thank you for sticking this long!

In one of the HP analysis posts you mentioned that Draco doesn't have as much Slytherin in him as he wanted. Could you eleborate on that? Ty
Hi đ
I think I mentioned most of it in the drarry post, but sure. I mentioned here how I usually go about sorting and thinking about who fits what house. And I will add the disclaimer that I'm not a Draco fan. I don't hate him, but I don't particularly like him either, so I am biased.
I always saw Draco as a character who was taught to value Slytherin house and its qualities. Who was taught that he should be cunning and ambitious. Who wants to be a Slytherin so bad, but just, isn't. Not really.
And the regular sorting questions I ask, kinda show him as someone who'd be sorted into Slytherin, but who isn't particularly ambitious or cunning.
1. Problem Solving - what is the go-to method of said character to solve problems in a situation that isn't a life-and-death threat. Both without a time limit and on a time crunch.
We don't see Draco problem-solve in a situation when he isn't in danger too much since his mission to kill Dumbledore came with the threat of death and torture looming over his head. But if we look at the sort of things he does to achieve his goals at school - bother Harry, for the most part, he has a clear pattern.
When Draco gets information/a situation he can use, and he uses it immediately. There is no waiting for opportune moments, no thinking ahead. It's all about immediate gratification.
We see it in how he sets up the fake duel, in how he bothers Harry over every Prophet article immediately after it's published. He isn't strategizing and coming up with good plans, he goes for the first thing he can, immediately.
He is bold, straightforward, impulsive, and employs zero cunning when problem-solving in a limited time (immediately). So he gets a Gryffindor point.
The dementor disguises at the Quidditch game in 3rd year, and the Potter Stinks badges, show the other method Draco has for problem-solving when he has more time â work his ass off.
It's kind of surprising that for all that he's spoilt, Draco is not lazy, on the contrary. I think he put a lot of effort into the Potter Stinks badges. He actually bought and charmed all of these badges just to annoy Harry. That's some hardworking dedication right there.
Basically, he's a Hufflepuff in the problem-solving when he has the time to work. He works hard and is surprisingly fair since he actually puts in all the effort. He works hard, not smart.
2. Problem-solving under threat of death - when the situation gets really dangerous, how do they deal with it?
When he is put under threat of death and torture, he tries to be Slytherin about his solutions. Sneaking around and slipping Dumbledore a poison is a Slytherin move. Buying a solution to your problem if you can, would be a Slytherin move.
If he could pull it off.
Draco's problem was that he wasn't clever or cunning enough to pull it off. He knew poison could kill a person, but he isn't a strategist. So he didn't come up with a good enough plan on how to get the poison to Dumbledore and it all fell apart. Same with the necklace.
His plans were so crap they harmed other people and he was lucky Dumbledore really wanted to keep him in the school.
The plan that finally did work for him, is the one Hufflepuff plan he had. He spent long hours working his ass off to fix the vanishing cabinet so someone else could help him. Getting help could fit all the houses (except Gryffindor) depending on the context, but the fact Draco didn't even foresee the Death Eaters attacking students and thought they'd only go after Dumbledore shows a lack of cunning on his part. His ability to work hard on something that seems futile is a Hufflepuff moment, and he makes it work.
He also lacks that Slytherin ruthlessness that even Harry possesses. Draco doesn't have what it takes to kill Dumbledore. And even when he's trying to save Harry, he can barely hold his lie together:
âWell, Draco?â said Lucius Malfoy. He sounded avid. âIs it? Is it Harry Potter?â âI canât â I canât be sure,â said Draco. He was keeping his distance from Greyback, and seemed as scared of looking at Harry as Harry was of looking at him.
(DH)
(He was also a bad liar when it came to lying about his arm being broken, this is consistent with his character and relevant to all his problem solving)
For the moment when he saves Hary's life (problem-solving under threat with a time crunch), I'll give him another Gryffindor point since it's bold and impulsive for sure.
3. What they aspire for - what do they want to accomplish for themselves. Be it an ambition towards a job or something they want to just be better at.
Draco doesn't have a solid ambition, as in, he doesn't have something specific he wishes to accomplish. I think he wants to be praised and be thought well of. He wants to make his parents proud and be admired by people in general â basically, Draco wants glory and recognition. Which could go either toward Slytherin or Gryffindor, so we'll give him a Slytherin point for ambition toward glory.
âVery good,â murmured Dumbledore. âSo the Death Eaters were able to pass from Borgin and Burkes into the school to help you. ... A clever plan, a very clever plan ... and, as you say, right under my nose.â âYeah,â said Malfoy, who bizarrely seemed to draw courage and comfort from Dumbledoreâs praise.
(HBP)
He really doesn't really care where the praise comes from.
Though, I'd hardly call Draco Ambitious becouse these aforementioned goals, aren't really at the forefront of his mind when it comes to his choices and actions.
4. Motivations - why do they do the things they do? What gets them up in the morning?
As I mentioned above, I won't call Draco ambitious, because his ambitions rarely are what motivates him. Yes, he wants to be praised and admired by, well, everyone who's willing to say something nice, really, but it's not that he goes out of his way to pursue it. I mean, he peacocks around and brags about the stuff he has, but we don't really see him doing anything for the purpose of getting praise. Even in Potions, we don't see him raising his hand to get Snape's praise and attention like Hermione does. Draco's grades are probably good, but he doesn't go out of his way to be the teacher's favorite the way Hermione or Tom Riddle did. Sure, he loves the position of power of being a prefect, but he didn't exactly pursue it. He lost house points and got detentions, it's not that he has a perfect record.
Draco is mostly motivated by immediate satisfaction throughout the books (this changes post-DH, probably). And this makes sense. He is a rich brat, born to parents who probably gave him everything he always wanted. Hell, Lucius bought the whole Slytherin Quidditch team brooms for Draco. So it makes sense Draco acts for his immediate wants and what brings him joy/satisfaction in the moment.
Now, I'm actually not sure what house I would correspond with this behavior pattern, can go either Gryffindor or Slytherin, really. So, I'll add both points.
5. Defining trait - if you need to choose one trait to define them, what would it be?
This is a hard one. I don't feel like an expert on Draco's character, but I think I'd go with Hesitent.
Draco is cautious and weary. His self-preservation (especially in the early books) is his most Slytherin quality. But his hesitance goes beyond that.
He hesitates before killing Dumbledore, so Snape does the deed instead. He hesitates when fighting Harry in the bathroom because I don't believe Harry can say "Sectumsempra" faster than Draco can say "Crucio" unless Draco is pronouncing the spell as slowly as he can. he spends the entirety of Deathly Hallows in a state of indecisiveness. Not wanting to kill Harry, but then going with Crabbe and Goyle to capture him. He brags about being a Death Eater in HBP, but he spends the year crying in the bathroom. He speaks big game about violence, but probably went to throw up after being forced to torture Rowle.
I 100% believe that if Draco finished casting that Crucio on Harry, the spell wouldn't have hurt Harry at all because Draco didn't really mean it.
This hesitance actually is a Slytherin quality though. This desire to know what to do to get the best outcome so you're worried about making a move. That's Slytherin, so he gets the point.
6. Valued trait - if they had to pick their favorite trait about themselves, what would they pick?
I think, if Draco were to pick his best trait about himself, he'd probably say how clever he is, even though he's more book-smart and hardworking than cunning and clever in the Slytherin way. I think Draco is very wrong about his perception of himself throughout the books, and that at some point, post-DH, he'd figure himself out (he starts throughout DH).
But I will give this point to Slytherin since he really does value Slytherin cunning, even if he doesn't really possess it.
7. Values - what traits do they completely despise in others? What traits do they appreciate in others?
I think this one is another point to Hufflepuff, honestly.
There aren't many traits Draco really despises, I think, and if you ask him, he'd say something like: "oh, all these idiots who risk themselves for others, I mean, how stupid can you be,"
But we see him doing just that. Risking his own life for Harry and his parents. So, no, I think what Draco actually dislikes in people is shockingly the lack of empathy.
Draco is a very emotional and empathetic character. He hates causing pain or witnessing pain. He is surprisingly empathetic and is constantly stopping himself from being as empathetic as he actually is. He even warns Hermione in the World Cup in GoF (albeit in a mean and roundabout way, but still. If he really wanted her hurt, he wouldn't have told them to hurry along):
âLanguage, Weasley,â said Malfoy, his pale eyes glittering. âHadnât you better be hurrying along, now? You wouldnât like her spotted, would you?â He nodded at Hermione, and at the same moment, a blast like a bomb sounded from the campsite, and a flash of green light momentarily lit the trees around them. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â said Hermione defiantly. âGranger, theyâre after Muggles,â said Malfoy. âDâyou want to be showing off your knickers in midair? Because if you do, hang around . . . theyâre moving this way, and it would give us all a laugh.â
(GoF)
So, I think sadists who lack empathy like, say, Bellatrix, are the kind of people Draco actually dislikes the most.
8. And finally, which house do they want?
As I said in my previous house sorting post, the "what they want question" matters more about why they want a certain house and less about what house. Say, if they wanted Hufflepuff so they would appear more trustworthy, I'd send them to Slytherin.
Now, Draco wants to be a Slytherin so bad. He wants his parents to be proud so bad. Since, this desire is one born of an ambition, a goal he wants to pursue, and said goal is praise and glory, this point goes to Slytherin.
Tallying up the points:
G - 3, S - 5, H - 3, R - 0
When we tally it all up, he would clearly go to Slytherin, I can see why the hat placed him there. His sorting isn't a mistake, it is where he should go. And yet, he isn't particularly cunning, ambitious, ruthless, or resourceful. He is a Slytherin who isn't really a shining example of any of Slytherin house's traits.

CREATIVE PROMPTS LIST: CURSES
As we know, LCF/TCF has curses in it. We heard about them and how good a certain ex-priestess is at slinging âem around. However, we have never actually seen one used throughout the entirety of the novel so far except for the White Star's reincarnation thing and the Crossman one (the first of which I count more as a divine punishment and the second being completely fake as it was more of a word of warning). So I made some up!
Here is a list of curses, both silly and very much not silly, for those who need a little creative juice. None of them are designed to kill and for the serious list they will be put in descending order of how painful/effective they are. So the ones at the bottom are the absolute worst to get hit with in my opinion.
I will be honest in stating that a good chunk of these I made up with a certain character in mind (cough Cale cough), and it might be a little obvious. But you can use them on whoever, just have fun and I wanna see what ya'll come up with. ENJOY!
Silly:
Curse of No Filter
Like the Curse of Unveiling, but with thoughts instead of emotions. The afflicted will be compelled to literally speak their direct thoughts whenever they speak (does not make them compelled to do the act of speaking, but when they doâŚoh boy).
Do you like dissing people in your head? Better be prepared to get slapped or worse. Do you like swearing in your head, but not verbally? Get ready to start swearing up a storm. How about internal screaming? Better get earplugs cause you will be loud and your vocal chords shall be missed.
Curse of Babble
Like the tower of Babel, the afflicted will switch to be able to only understand either an actual other existing language no one else knows or a made up one. They can only speak, write and understand anything in that new language. Everything else is just gibberish to them.
I imagine they speak Sim
Curse of the Damsel
Get ready to embrace your inner Disney Princess cause the afflicted will feel compelled to sing and frolic through the fields dramatically and somehow befriend all manner of the small and fluffy.
Whether their singing and dancing are any good is up for debate
And of course, you canât forget being kidnapped on an almost daily basis
Curse of Shrimp
The afflicted will suddenly get minisculed and start seeing shrimp colors
Curse of Worm
The afflicted gets turned into a âworm on a stringâ
The epitome of âwould you still love me if I was a worm?â
Ultimate Curse
Itâs a bottle of glitter you can throw at another and curse them with eternal sparkly-ness and humiliation. It will never leave.
Now here are the angst ones
Very much NOT silly:
Curse of Conveyance
The afflicted will be cursed with a sickness that will not fade unless the conditions are met. The conditions being that the afflicted and the caretakers must communicate effectively with each other. The afflicted must be honest with their condition throughout the effects of the curse so the caretakers can provide needed support. The caretakers must also listen and be transparent with the afflicted on what they think is needed.
is meant to help facilitate trust and camaraderie between both parties involved through effective communication, so whether it is actually a curse or not is up for debate. It is believed it was created as a way to help mend relationships
Curse will only fade after proper communication has been achieved and kept up for 2 days
in other words, you will learn to talk with each other and you will like it!
Curse of Unveiling
The afflicted will have any-and-all emotional control stripped away from them. So, if the afflicted is a person who is usually calm and composed or repressed, they will start showing their emotions regardless of how hard they try to control themselves in the moment.
Lasts for a week
Curse of Wretchedness
The afflicted will suddenly have any-and-all past events they remember that caused them pain to be drawn forward and they will not only emotionally, but physically feel the pain they cause. So, if their history is particularly traumatic, it will hurt like nothing they have ever felt before
Believed to have been created as a form of torture
The only reason this curse isnât rated higher is because it only lasts an hour
Curse of No Rest
The afflicted will be cursed with the inability to sleep. No amount of laying down, closing eyes, or taking any other form of rest will give any relief. The afflicted will slowly but surely be drawn down by an exhaustion that cannot be fixed while the curse remains. They cannot die via exhaustion, for the curse will not let them. However, they can get to the point just before then and they will be kept right at that precipice of almost too much until the curse is broken
Curse must be broken to be removed, or it will stay for the rest of the afflicted existence
Not even in death can they escape from this curse, hence the name
Curse of Isolation
The afflicted will slowly but surely lose all their senses starting with smell, then taste, hearing, sight, and finally touch. Once all senses have been removed, the afflicted will be unable to perceive anything outside of their own thoughts; total isolation from the world outside their own mind.
Curse must be broken to be removed, or it will stay for the rest of the afflictedâs life
For those who arenât sure how to work with touch being removed, think of your foot falling asleep. I have tested it before on myself cause I was curious, but my foot literally couldnât feel anything when I touched it. Not even pressure, and I pressed down kinda hard. So no sense of pain or pressure or even where it could be in relation to the rest of your body or surroundings. Now imagine that but full body in conjunction with having lost the rest of your senses. Thatâll be terrifying.
For a bit of extra oomph if yaâll want you can also make it to where, when the appropriate sense is lost, the afflicted can no longer perceive anything extraneous such as Ancient Powers, Elementals, mind speak, or even the Divine. That option is up to you guys.
#lcf#tcf#prompt list: curse edition#here ya'll go#sorry if its a lil wordy#i might add more later but this is what i got currently#lemme know if you want to add any#we can just make a compilation#me thinks that twould be very grand

litany of the martyrs (click for better resolution!)
#at some point i wanted to make an illustration for each character but in retrospect maybe each is multiple song-coded..#drew the sketch for a quincy thing after a chat with a mutual reminded me this song existed dfsghjkl and then spent weeks rendering this#quincy cynthius martin#adamandi#i'm finally done with this! the saints especially were joys to paint and the halo a menace.... this has been the most ambitious one so far.#but it also took quite long because i only worked on it <engages with quincy> when mentally okay to deal with the themes. i'm not religious#but i do identify with the irrational(?ish) guilt + family legacy + academic achievement + disregard for self. also more complex thoughts#about love [but depsite quincent being a large part of quincy's character this piece deals with mostly the Rest of it. so another time..]#anyways! in the original sketch- the saints had heads bent towards quincy so the halo spikes pointed at him. but this worked better! halos#of the saints implying/creating one for quincy was a concept from the start though. in the show they don't touch him directly here but#differences in mediums i think- i don't have time in an image to craft a narrative so everything has to be happening. also artistic liberty#misc inspiration for this includes stained glass windows. i might have maybe misinterpreted the saint costume but i think i logic-ed it out#as the cloth part following a nun's habit w the hood. and then halo above. the material is also more transparent originally but i had. um.#too much fun painting fabric folds.. if you look closely you can see the basis of faces though behind the cloth; but only the vague shapes#because smth obscurity + inhumanness// cassian is the only one i gave a mouth though. that stems from melliot's post about the saints and#st cassian as spokesperson (<- did research teehee!) that's also how i found out which costume = which saint. speaking of which.#left to right: 'st lucy take my hand' // 'st lawrence give me strength' (presses quincy forward; but hand on shoulder connotates guidance)#/'st cassian help me smile' (quincy's mouth is btwn a grimace and a smile; tilts up at side. also no direct touch bc added insidiousness.)#//'st jude [...] i hope your causes burn' (jude's hand is in two places to show movement- nearing the flame and then snatching back; burnt)#other notes: at the midst of the flame the core is shaped like a human heart /the saints and their wax are all melting like the candle for#fun visual effect and also this way they are even less tangible <real>. perks of painting as a medium i guess. // also insp from icarus?#wax and burning imagery; looking at the halo and rays as parallel to sun that burns. too close to the sun; melting; hurting; hurtling //#candles at bottom are a nod to the frankly gorgeous set// also the entire composition kind of stems from the lyric <what use is a candle if#both ends aren't burning>; the two sides between the concepts of catholic guilt and academic perfection that spur quincy#the halo above (saints and guilt; litanyofthemartyrs) and the 'halo' below (academic papers; insp from choreo for perfect at school)#the papers were originally supposed to be more glowy. but i like the idea of it now being a reflection of how quincy's priorities shift#also of note is that <candle> in centre = quincy; w burning candle + aforementioned heart in flame -> most human; idea of love + passion#last thoughts: kneeling + hands close tgt = prayer //wax dripping onto the red As make an effect that looks like blood. because i like#hiding that within the adamandi pieces :OO continuity!! // i've run out of tags but yeah! had fun with this one! every so often i go a#little insane in making art and the final result astounds even me. ngl i'm quite proud of this one. pretty colours <3333

Hey, Star Trek Writers... -taps the glass-
#star trek#the only people from Voyager's main cast I could see wanting to be a captain are Chakotay ??? maybe? and DEFINITELY Harry Kim#Harry Kim is the only guy on that ship who I'd actually cheer and scream and cry and click my heels if he became captain#bc it's actually something I think he'd be suited for AND it fits with his personality/goals...<3#like I saw a clip from Picard and like...Seven of NINE??? Why would she want to be a captain?? I think in that case 'making captain' is jus#shorthand for 'we finally accept you into structured society and you're no longer an outcast' which I do NOT like#also Tuvok's a captain???? Why???? Nothing about Tuvok screams captain material or that he'd even WANT to be a captain#I imagine him being chief of security or a professor (or both) until retiring - MAYBE a first officer#OH same with Janeway only she would HATE being an admiral and loves being captain#like next they're gonna tell me that B'Elanna Torres is a starfleet captain* - NO ! she is an ENGINEER!#Sorry I can't get over how bad Tuvok would be as a captain - he's not suited for it and does NOT seem interested#*so that we can all go 'oh yay I accept this as shorthand for the federation accepts her' - HEY#if the only thing you can think of to show that a character has achieved true happiness & respect & peace is becoming a 'respectable' rank#in the future pseudo not-military: maybe think about that more deeply

must be love
â you find saeâs phone opened, and you decide to snoop.
or; sae gets exposed for being a fake idgafer. this is too sappy. 2.7k words, this is my longest fic in my whole life⌠what life feels like as a girl who loves too much core
tags: @narcjsistx
â for @itoshiluvbot. love ya, partner.
âshe seems really eager to please,
but she has quite the backbone.â
you huff out in frustration. âah!! ughâŚâ you scowl. sae raises his eyebrow. âmy groupmate never started on her share of the work⌠ugh, now i have to cram it..!â you explain your sudden outburst. sae scoffs. âthen tell your teacher or something. itâs not like i can do anything about it, im not your teacher.â he, quite obviously, points out. âwh⌠ugh, iâm gonna⌠i justâ needed to let out my anger.â you groan, face planting and screaming into your textbook. and he hums in response. although he didnât show it on his face, your outburst was quite out of character for the person he had grown to know. it was⌠weird, to say the least. and it had caused him to make a mental note not to anger you.
âher generosity knows no bounds.â
âsae, this is for you. merry christmas!â you hand him a wrapped box. âhm..? i donât take christmas gifts.â he bluntly states. âi havenât gotten any gifts since i was 10 years old.â you scoff to yourself. âmaybe thatâs why youâve always got that stick in your ass.â you tease. âexcuse me?â he glares daggers at you. âaaaanyway! open it!â you shove the box into his hands. he looks at the box, and then at you, and he decides to open it. ânew cleats.â he acknowledges. yes, mhm. these were indeed cleats..! âi didnât need these, i was going to buy them myself.â he states.
âi know, you could probably buy them yourself. but, i thought iâd save you the hassle, yâknow?â how thoughtful of you. he eyes the cleats up and down; itâs an expensive brand, but itâs worth the price for the quality. ââŚthanks.â he says, at last. he didnât expect a gift from you, he doesnât have one prepared for you. heâll make sure to buy you something youâll love later. âoh! hold on, i wanted to give you some other things âŞ~â you fish a keychain and envelope out of your bag and hand it to him.
ââŚcinnamoroll..?â he questions. âitâs cute right? i thought youâd like it.â what an odd way of thinking⌠never once has he mentioned anything about cinnamoroll. but then again, it is pretty cute. ââŚwell, i wonât say i hate it. thank you.â he thanks you as he eyes the envelope. âah, donât read it in front of me..! i got a bit sappy, itâs pretty. embarrassingâŚâ you awkwardly laugh. âah, got it.â
later that day, he opened the envelope. there was a letter; it had cute doodles all over. and, heâd be lying if he said that he didnât feel your affection radiating off the letter. it was⌠really sweet.
âwhat a beautiful human being she is.â
itoshi sae is what you like to call a shy lover, if you were to put it kindly.
you know for a fact that he loves you, he just isnât good at verbally expressing it. words of affection are too sappy for him. he prefers to show it through the thoughtfulness of his gifts, and the longing touches of his hands, which seem to never leave yourâs.
you know he loves you. but, you canât help but wish for him to say it more often.
it wasnât many nights lately that the two of you would have a date night. with saeâs rigorous training schedule and endless interviews, the only thing he wants to do at night is to fall asleep beside you.
however, today was the end of the season. meaning, sae would have much more free-time for you.
with saeâs last game for the year completed in 0-4, the first thing he had to do was call you. even though you werenât far away at all, sitting in the VIP lounge with the relatives and girlfriends of saeâs teammates.
âs/o?â he calls your attention. âmhm? congratulations on your win, babe! i knew youâd win.â you congratulate him. âthey could barely keep the ball when they had it. is it really an achievement for me to have won this match?â he says, almost sassily. âpsshâ alright. i get it, mr. âtepid.â.â you tease.
âdonât call me that.â he huffs. âstay where you are. iâll go to you.â he commands. you hum in acknowledgment, and he hangs up.
he doesnât keep you waiting too long before showing up. âthere you areâŚâ he sighs in relief, kissing you as his hands automatically find themselves on your bodyâ one tangled in your hair, and the other resting on the curve of your spine.
once he finds the will in himself to finally pull away, heâs breathless.
he looks like he wants to say something, but he holds himself back, his fingers flowing through your hair. ââŚget ready for our date later tonight, yeah? formal wear.â
you nod, and his lips curl upward. âiâll see you later.â
you decided to go all out, pull all the brakes. and when sae picks you up in his car, he canât help thinking that you look like a dream. âare you sure you arenât a model?â he muses to himself. his heart twists, and the fat of his cheeks redden with affection. your hair flows like silk, and that glimmer in your eyes was once a star, handpicked from the skies, heâs sure of it.
everything about you encourages him to keep staring, but he manages to get ahold of himself. ââŚyouâŚlook beautiful.â is the only thing he can get himself to say. but, beautiful doesnât seem to encapsulate it, not at all. itâs not even close. beautiful is only a fraction of what he thinks. âheh, you think so?â you ask. âyeah; beautiful.â he assures. âletâs go.â he says, barely turning his attention away from you as he turns to the road.
the drive to the restaurant is quiet, but saeâs mind is screaming at him. his eyes canât stop moving back to take sneaky glances of you. he drinks up your beauty like a serpent, and he still hasnât had his fill.
ââŚweâre here.â he pulls the shift into itsâ brake. he gets out, and hands his keys to the valet boyâ his words are inaudible through the car door, but he quickly finishes his conversation and moves to open your car door.
you take your first step out, and his hand immediately moves to help you out. god, you might be even prettier under the gleam of moonlight, shining like the pearl of the planet.
his arm moves and snakes around your waist, guiding you into the restaurant under the flash of paparazzi cameras. he grimaces at the loud, pitchy voices of news interviewers, begging for a comment; anything for a headline quote.
the gentle touch of his fingers tighten, as he silently encourages you to walk faster, and lose the crowd. the two of you hurry up, and dash into the restaurant, where youâre greeted with a dim candlelight, mahogany walls, and the rhythmic trumpet of jazz.
âwelcome, mr. itoshi.â the receptionist greets. âyour table for two is right this way.â she quickly guides the two of you into a secluded part of the restaurant, just like heâs always done as to make sure neither of you are spotted and harassed in public.
lamps hang on the walls, creating a romantic atmosphere. and the curved dark-brown leather booth couch perfectly complements the dark oak roundtable.
the date isnât too different from the others. the two of you chat about anything that comes to mind. but, itâs actually more like itâs just you chattering on, and sae listening as he admires that excited grin on your face.
on the outside looking in, itâs obvious how he has heart eyes when he stares at you. heâs in a trance as he listens to the rich honeying sweetness of your voice; his finger traces the lines on the roundtable, wishing that itâd be the crinkles of your smile heâs tracing when he blinks and opens his eyes again.
his trance is broken though, when his phone rings. damn it, he forgot to put his phone on do not disturb⌠âsomething wrong?â you ask sae, and he takes his phone out of his pocket. ânot sure. there shouldnât be a problem, i cancelled everything for tonight. ugh⌠just a second, amorâŚâ he remorsefully takes your hand in his as a silent gesture of apology. he took too long to pick up the phone, it already went outâŚ
he opened his call app, and saw that it was from his publicist, dabadie. he groaned before picking up.
âsae! you didnât mention that youâd be going out on a date today, your paparazzi shot is already all over social medias..!â he worriedly stammers. âi didnât? well, whatever⌠itâs just a date photo anyway.â sae shrugs, speaking quietly to ensure that you donât hear. ârightâ but⌠you know the internet⌠they might criticize you, and say that sheâs distracting you from soccerâŚâ
sae is about to correct himâ heâs about to say that you arenât distracting him from his career, but he holds back once he remembers that youâre right beside him, eagerly waiting for his attention to be back on you.
âi⌠have to speak to you for a second, im already outside the restaurant⌠the paparazzi didnât censor out the location well enough either⌠so, the agencyâs security car will follow you two homeâŚâ he adds on. sae sighs. âi have to speak to you too. iâll meet you outside.â he hangs up. he huffs in exasperation and shallowly drops his phone, making it clatter on the table; the screen is left open on his call record. âim sorry, amor⌠i have to quickly take care of something, iâll be back soon, i promise.â he kisses your hand.
âhmph, donât worry. itâs dabadie, right? heâs always worried about somethingâŚâ you laugh. of course youâd be understanding about it. you always understood. âheh, that he is.â he sasses before leaving the table.
âŚand you canât help but notice that his phone is still open.
his phone is practically yelling at you, âcheck out whatâs on me, s/o! check it out right now!â, and you simply canât resist the temptation to!
first, you simply scroll around at his call record; nothing too interesting, itâs filled with calls from dabadie, and you. as well as occasional calls from his mom. how tepid, as sae would put it. you exit the app, and find his home screen wallpaper to be a picture he took of you; youâre looking out into the distance, the large castle of sleeping beauty in the background.
you smile to yourself at that cute photo, and move to his photos; itâs filled with photos of you, and almost none of himâ not unless you were beside him. you scroll down to check out his older photos; theyâre childhood pictures, only a few of them are with rin included.
âŚ
âŚanyways, âwhat is in sae itoshiâs notes app?â, you ponder. you open his notes app.
âthings i want to eat: 1. omelette, 2. paella, 3. pesto pastaâ
âonitsuka tiger mexico - kill bill/grey, new balance 2002r - grey, asics gel NYC - oyster greyâ
âlaundryâ
âi love youâ
you laugh at the randomness of his notes, quickly scrolling through them. itâs true when they say that a boyâs notes is truly random.
but that last note catches your eye. itâs a pretty odd note that just says âi love youâ with no additional text. and, it makes you wonder.
saeâs an organized person, more or less. so, his notes must be filed too. and, youâre correct. there are three files; âlistsâ, âimportant documentsâ, and a file with your initial as itsâ name.
the other two donât seem as interesting, nor seem as mysterious. so, you click on the mysterious file.
and, the file is filled with everything about you; heâs written down your birthday (including the timeâŚ), your family membersâ names, foods you like to eat when you arenât feeling well, shows that you like to watch⌠everything.
and, thereâs a note that catches your eye. itâs a cut-off sentence, since it was too long. you decide to feed your curiosity and click on the note.
âshe talks to everyone, even the people she doesnât like.
it takes a lot to piss her off.
sheâs always kind to me, after all.
she seems really eager to please, but she has quite the backbone.
she works really hard, but i donât think many see it.
her generosity knows no bounds, and she always knows what kind of joke to make.
i didnât think it was possible for a soul to be so beautiful.
nor, that someone like i would meet a soul like herâs.
but, im grateful to the stars above that i met her.
someone as kind as her deserves to receive all the love she gives.
i donât think she knows how loved she really is though.
what a beautiful human being she is.
there simply isnât enough words to describe the way her dimples crinkle when sheâs happy.
the day she was conceived, the gods mustâve tenderly sculpted her heart out of ivory and gold.
the way she enamors everyone in the room simply by walking inside, and the way her personality shines in her rushed, yet sweet handwriting.
one day, i hope sheâll finally be perpetually happy.
so, that she can always shine that enchanting smile of herâs.
she deserves all of it.â
was this a poem..? it didnât seem like it, it didnât rhyme, and the stanzas didnât have equal amounts of lines⌠but, the way he worded it out almost made it seem like he was a poet.
you donât⌠even know what to think at such a romantic confession. itâs certainly much more than sae has ever verbally said to you. but, the fact that he had written this with you in mind makes your heart pound like crazy.
youâve always known that sae loves you, but seeing his private thoughts all written out for you to read was⌠overwhelming.
âgoing through my texts, amor? iâm not texting any other woman besides you.â sae nonchalantly jokes. shitâ time went quicker than youâd thought. âah, nn⌠just got a bit curious, babeâŚâ you hum. âwhat were you looking at..?â he asks, and his eyes widen the moment he sees what you were reading. out of all the things on his phone, that was the last thing he wanted you reading.
he embarrassedly closes his phone. âso⌠what was all that writing about..? were you trying to be a poet?â you jokingly ask; you knew that sae wasnât mad, per say⌠he was probably just embarrassed. ân..no⌠it was, ahâŚâ he clears his throat. âit was just⌠something i typed out when i realized i had many observations about you that i needed to write down. i just got sidetracked while i was typing.â he explains.
you smile, your entire body feeling like youâre on fire. the love you feel for sae itoshi feels like too much to contain in your heart. âit was really sweet, saeâŚâ you assure him. for some reason, you have the odd incentive to just⌠cry right now. you love him so much.
âi know. but, itâs also too sappy.â he huffs. âaw, donât be so shy⌠i know youâre just a huge softie under that tough surfaceâŚâ you tease, moving closer to cuddle up to his side. âim not soft. i just love you, okay?â he groans. âdonât make me say embarrassing things.â
your smile widens, making him look at you with that lovesick look in his eyes. âaww⌠well, i guess i know how much you love me now anyway, so thatâs good enough..!â you mentally fist pump at this small victory.
the atmosphere suddenly feels light again as you start to chatter again, teasing him slightly before going back to what you were speaking about before he had left. and still, saeâs looking at you like youâre the world cup trophy, like youâre all heâs dreamed of.
and sae thinksâŚ
ââŚyouâll know how sappy i can get when itâs our wedding day.â
but he should save that for another 5 years, or so.

Hi there! It's me...again. Hope your doing okay.
I was thinking about a new request about Kenji Sato x Fem! Reader based on the song "Please, Please, Please" from Sabrina Carpenter. Reader is a singer just like her so and has a relationship with Ken but she thinks that some things aren't doing good, but she also has him wrapped around her finger. Like the part with "I beg you, don't embarrass me, mother******". It can be angst but also fluffy and spice (Only if you want to but no smut) It can end in a happy ending.
The rest is up to you because I know you'll do a great job. No need to rush so take your time.
Donât Prove âEm Right
Kenji Sato x Singer!Reader
Word Count: 1,358
Genre/Warnings: Angst (light), Character Development, Drama, Emotional, Redemption
Authorâs Note: I went with a bit of angst đ¤§
MASTERLIST
âYou could do better.â
This was one thing youâve always heard since you started dating men as a singer. Throughout your career, you were either cheated on, abandoned, or used in a way that they just rode your fame.
Other times, fans would ship you with another singer or celebrity or whoever famous and youâd give it a try for them but the ending is the always same: you two were just pretending for public entertainment and there was never love at all.
Your perception of love blurred the longer you got in the singing industry. You sang about it, wrote songs about it, but youâve never really experienced it for a significant amount of time or for a significant depth.
That was until you met Kenji.
Despite his fame, he seemed down-to-earth and genuinely interested in getting to know you. He took you to his baseball games and introduced you to his teammates. In return, you invited him to your recording sessions.
Kenji was always supportive, and always encouraging. He seemed genuinely proud of your achievements and was always there for you. Despite his busy schedule, he shows up at your gigs and concerts and cheers you on from the front row.
He had a way of making you feel special like you were the most important person in his world. It was easy to overlook the occasional outbursts, the moments of impulsiveness that seemed to come with his fiery temperament.
You told yourself that everyone had flaws, and Kenji's good qualities far outweighed his bad ones.
You believed in him and in the future you could build together. Despite the red lights and the stop signs, you held on to the belief that this time, this love was right.
But as time went on, the cracks in Kenji's facade began to show. His temper flared more frequently, and his impulsive decisions started to take a toll on your relationship.
You made excuses for him and justified his actions to your friends and family. You told them heâs different.
But they told you that with the way heâs behaving, youâll just end up in the dumps againâthat heâs going to cheat on you, hurt you, leave you, and the ending will be the sameâŚ
âYou could do better.â
Heartbreak is one thing, but your ego is another. You couldnât afford your name dominating the headlines again. And for what reason? Another breakup.
You loved him deeply, but the constant cycle of highs and lows was exhausting. You wanted to believe that he could change, that he could be the man you fell in love with.
But the more you tried to fix things, the more you realized that some things were beyond your control.
You sat in front of your vanity doing your makeup nicely. You glanced at the clock. Kenji would be here any minute to pick you up now. Tonight is your big night. Itâs an afterparty to celebrate the release of your new single.
Your boyfriend had a reputation for causing a scene. It wasn't entirely his faultâhe was passionate but it sometimes translated into impulsiveness. Tonight, of all nights, you needed him to be on his best behavior.
As if on cue, the doorbell rang. Kenji stood there, looking dashing in a tailored suit, a grin spreading across his face as he saw you.
"Wow, you look stunning," he said, pulling you in for a quick kiss.
"Thanks," you replied, forcing a smile. "You sure you wanna come?"
"Of course," he replied with a confidence that both reassured and worried you. âIâm always here for you.â
You arrived at the venue in no time. Celebrities, reporters, and fans filled the room, all eager to celebrate your success. You and Kenji mingled with the crowd, exchanging pleasantries and accepting congratulations.
But as the night went on, Kenji's behavior started to shift. The drinks were flowing, and while you had stuck to soda water, Kenji had not.
You watched with growing anxiety as he laughed a little too loudly, and gestured a little too wildly. The conversations around you started to feel like a backdrop to a ticking time bomb.
You pulled him aside. "Kenji, please," you whispered urgently. "Just... take it easy, okay?"
He frowned, a mix of confusion and irritation crossing his features. "What? I'm just having a good time."
"I know," you said, forcing another smile. âJust... for me, okay?"
He sighed but nodded and for a while, it seemed like he was keeping his promise. He stuck by your side, an arm around your waist, engaging in polite conversation with your friends and family.
However, you left him one moment and then the next, he was talking to one of the reporters. The latter walked away, a smirk on his face. Kenji turned to you, his face flushed with anger.
"Can you believe that guy?" he spat. "He had the nerve to ask about the last game. Said I sucked."
"Kenji," you said softly, trying to calm him down. You placed your hand on his chest. "It's not worth it."
"Butâ"
"Please, Kenji. Just... let it go."
He looked at you, the anger in his eyes slowly fading. He took a deep breath and nodded. "For you," he said quietly.
But the reprieve was short-lived. You caught sight of him at the bar, raising his voice at someone who had apparently made a snide comment.
The situation escalated quickly, and before you knew it, Kenji had thrown a punch, causing a commotion that drew everyone's attention.
Your heart sank as security rushed in to break up the fight. You could feel all eyes on you, whispers spreading through the crowd.
You felt a sense of dejĂ vu as this wasn't the first time Kenji let his emotions get the best of him, and you were able to hold it together as youâve always done, but then you heard the one thing you hated.
âShe couldâve done better.â
Without a word, you grabbed your things and stormed out of the venue, the tears you had been holding back finally spilling over.
Not long after, Kenji arrived at your house, disheveled and remorseful. "(Y/n), I'm so sorry," he began, reaching out to you. "I didn't mean to ruin everything."
You stepped back, keeping a distance between you. "Kenji, this can't keep happening. You promised me you would behave tonight!â You said in between sobs. âThis was supposed to be my night, and you turned it into a disaster.â
You sat on your couch, your legs feeling too tired to keep you up. "I can't keep making excuses for you,â you continued. âI can't keep sacrificing my career for your mistakes."
Kenji fell silent, his shoulders slumping in defeat. Heâs scared. He knew what those words meant. At that moment, he felt like the sky was crashing on him.
"I don't want to lose you, (y/n)," he said quietly, tears falling down. "I love you, and I know I've been screwing up. But I'm willing to do everything to make things right. Therapy, anger management, whatever it takes."
You stared at him, your heart aching with a mix of love and doubt. "Kenji, this isn't just about tonight,â you said. âThis has been happening for a while now.â
âPlease, (y/n),â he begged, his voice trembling as he knelt in front of you, embracing your legs as he rested his head on your lap. âI want to be the man you deserve. Please, give me one more chance."
Over the next few weeks, Kenji followed through on his promise. He made genuine efforts to address his issues.
He went out of his way to apologize to your friends and family for his behavior at the party, taking full responsibility for his actions.
Slowly but surely, heâs coming back to being the man you fell in love with. He made sure you wouldnât be the one doing better because he was becoming better himself.
One afternoon, you had lunch with your friends. They asked about how things are now going between you and Kenji. You gave them a smile, a genuine one since after the party.
âHe became better.â

still haven't moved on from zane in this episode (aka I hit tag limit again and am unhappy about it)
#alek insanity#continuing the rant in a reblog or i will go insane because i shant leave this business unfinished#he doesn't allow himself to properly handle emotions. ever. i was talking to a friend about this the other day but the ninja all cry#in different ways. nya and kai (due to their upbringing) struggle with emotional regulation and so when theh cry they BAWL. such as nya#bawling head in hands after zane died. and then kai who bawled head in hands when nya died in s6. when lloyd cried in s8 (maybe 9..?) he#shed several tears. he silently cried but i attribute this to not wanting harumi to get the emoitonal upper hand on him. then there is jay#who (when upset) will make it everyone elses problem. hes a free crier what he feels is real and he will express that. THEN YOU HAVE ZANE#zane first cries in tick tock post after turning on his memory switch. it was in response to his father's final message to him#âim only doing this because i love you' sort of deal. he cried one singular tear and moved on. he had to keep fighting. no time to dwell#on this crazy revelation because he needs to help the ninja. their needs over his. the 2nd (and final time according to my memory) time is#right before he dies in s3. one singular tear at the thought of his father and then he dies. anytime there is a huge loss zane does a lot o#the comforting. him comforting kai during nyas death in s6 and also during coles assumed death in s10. anytime he feels bad#he pushes his needs down. insert him literally turning off his emotions because his productivity was low. this behavior is less apparent#in the earlier seasons (just bc tonally the show is different) but it is still there. big fan of how hes written in this episode bc theres#so many little things. he was the one who took out the trash even though he never threw any food. he took his apron off near the trash cans#like he was going to throw it away + his dislike of pink later. he decides to follow the falcon after hearing the ninja laugh from outside#the gate. he made food as an apology for 'ruining' the dinner prior even though that wasnt even what happened. hes always trying#to make up for things that you cant make up. no one will be in the wrong but he will feel as if it falls on him. he is always chasing#what he cannot reach. s11 his message where he says he hasnt achieved his goal of protecting others yet. its a cycle that will never end#and that characterization is present HERE its so fun to me. zane being an entirely different perso but the same at the same time fucks me u#'i am just a replica' but in the 'im a shell of who i used to be way' later zane is very much zane still. bad writing doesnt make that#apparent though. i dont think zane now should behave 100% like zane in s1. i miss him then too BUT he has changed. out of all the ninja#hes done the most character degression... if that makes sense? hes still the same guy with the same issues. but with even more issues now#i think thats about it.#not gonna main tag this but prepare for a tiny rant#<- so that was a lie LMFAO

Actually I WILL talk about Mai's seeming 'radicalisation'. With the upcoming comic, I can see why a lot of people are confused/caught offguard by Mai suddenly having a vested interest in reforming the Fire Nation's school curriculum.
However, I don't think it's as much of a heelturn as one would believe at first glance.
Mai is a difficult character to pinpoint on some levels, particularly due to her upbringing which stripped her of a lot of her self expression. I think most of the fandom underestimates the trauma and effect of Mai's upbringing. I elaborate on it here.
However, the long and short of it is that Mai was not encouraged to question, criticise or, god forbid, rebel against her enviornment. To the point where her parents scared her with stories of spirits that would kidnap her if she misbehaved.
Ukano's involvement in politics and relatively high status should also be taken into account. Mai would have grown up being strongly encouraged to conform to her father's beliefs and go along with his politics.
Mai : My mother said I had to keep out of trouble. We had my dad's political career to think about.
We've seen the propaganda and indoctrination of the Fire Nation school system, how it uses misinformation in its curriculum and how it punishes deviance.
Most fire nation children won't have the tools to find the cruelty and danger in the philosophy of the Fire Nation. Zuko had to get banished from the country to even start his deconstruction. And he had Iroh at his side to guide him.
It's not shocking that Mai would not be able to see the flaws of the Fire Nation. Despite this, she still shows no attachment to the Nation's cause, either. In fact, she actively refused to take part in the war effort when she thought she could get away with it.
I don't think Mai had much sympathy to the other nations, nor will I claim she secretly harboured anti imperialistic sentiment. I simply want to state the fact that Mai was, from a young age, forced to do things she didn't want to do and conditioned by multiple parties, to accept this. Mai has been trained to be passive, with only the method of passive aggressiveness and gloominess to defend herself.
I think after the fall of Ozai's rule and the slow restructuring of the Nation, Mai got more freedom in her life. Ukano's political role diminished, so Mai was allowed to think for herself. She gets to discover the world more and develop her own thoughts and ideals, rather than the ones she'd been forced to conform to.
This line in the upcoming comic seems to confirm my thoughts:
Mai's upbringing is the underground and darkness. She was never given an alternative or agency in her life. And thanks to Zuko, she was able to see and experience a different world than the one she was brought up with. She is able to help to try and achieve it.
Initially, Mai is angry at Zuko's joining of team Avatar. She feels betrayed and upset that he did not talk to her in person, even if it was to protect her. And yet, she saves him. While I believe that most of her motivation was genuinely out of love for Zuko. But she also, ekther inadvertently or deliberately made the choice between Azula and Zuko. Between the two potential duture leaders of the Nation.
And she chose Zuko. Who is not only the boy she loves, but also the boy who can heal her nation.
There is an argument to be made about how Mai represents the Fire Nation itself and its relationship to Zuko, but that is a topic for another day.
The theme of Mai caring for the future of the Fire Nation can be seen expanding in the comics. As 99% of the fandom will tell you, the comics have their flaws, but I do enjoy their handling of Mai for the most part.
I think it's interesting that we are shown that Mai not only wants Zuko to be Fire Lord, but for him to be a good Fire Lord.
We see her dissapointed in Zuko secretly meeting with Ozai. At first glance, what she says to Zuko is that she is dissapointed in him keeping secrets from her, which is understandable, since the last time he kept a secret from her led to him joining the opposite side of a war.
However, with her next appearance, we see that Mai may have had another concern relating to Zuko's communing with Ozai. When Ty Lee informs her of Zuko also enlisting Azula's help, Mai exclaims 'so he really is turning into his father', which seems to denote that Mai has a distaste for Ozai and his rule, whether that be from the begining, or recently acquired.
Mai also criticises Zuko's callous and controlling restrictions over the frightened townspeople. This serves to further cement the idea of Mai becoming disillusioned with the similarly inclined authority figures of her past. Authority figures who were a symptom of the Fire Nation's utilitarian and imperialistic system. We see this disdain manifesting in its full force in the teasers for the upcoming comic.
I think people tend to not realise how restricted in her self expression and thoughts Mai was, despite all the puzzle pieces being laid out for us in the show.
Mai has gone through a very quick and yet realistic episode of character growth in my opinion. Not unlike a lot of people raised in heavily Conservative and restrictive households who peel off later in life, she's settling into her own mindset and motivations.
Ans I don't think it's an unrealistic idea for Mai to want to help change the education system. The Fire Academy for girls is where she met Azula, and as an all girl school alumni, I can tell you first hand how toxic and confining these enviornments can be.
While Mai may not be seen as a particularly empathetic or kind person (though I think this interpretation is flawed), she can sympathise with the young girls who will be placed in the shoes of her younger self.
She can want to not see these kids go through what she, Ty Lee AND Azula did.
[The panels of Mai glancing between the stifling interior of the school and the open window and choosing to go outside and lead the Nation's youth outside... ugh]
Not only is this a rather logical progression for Mai's character, in my opinion, but it also feels like a very big 'healing your inner child' moment for Mai. Since she was not really seemingly allowed to be a child, as most children in the Fire Nation appeared to have such restrictions placed on them.
I don't think it's much of a stretch of the imagination that Mai would want to have at least a small part in dismantling the system that harmed her and so many other children of the nation.
She is a young woman now, she has grown from the oversheltered, apathetic teen she was in the show. She has been able to make her own informed opinions about the state of the nation, has been able to hone her trauma into determination. And it seems we're going to see the fruits of this development in "Ashes of the Academy".
I have very high hopes for the upcoming comic, since what we've seen of it appears to make a compelling story, one I relate to deeply, as well as a good study of Mai, a character I find often misinterpreted by the fandom.

The S-Classes that I Raised often gets grouped with Omniscent Reader's Viewpoint and Trash of the Count's Family, but there's something distinctly different about Han Yoojin as a protagonist. I think it's that his story really makes you feel how much of a fighter he is. I'm not saying that Kim Dokja and Kim Roksoo aren't fighters exactly, but they tend to come off as schemers first and foremost. Their approach to most problems (from my perspective as someone who's read all of ORV and like a third of TCF) involves leveraging secrets of the world that only they know in order to get the better of their adversaries and achieve their goals. They plan things out a long time in advance, and sure, things don't always go their way, but they feel like chess players when they're confronted with obstacles.
Meanwhile, Han Yoojin feels like a guerilla soldier. He definitely also schemes, but SCTIR makes a dedicated effort to showing that his current knowledge of the future and the world's secrets will only take him so far. He does think ahead and plans for the future whenever he can, but most of his problems are solved by improvising. One of his greatest strengths is that he thinks on his feet and doesn't let himself be fazed by surprises. This ends up making him feel more like someone who has always had to fight desperately for every last scrap of respect and survival he could get his hands on in a way that ORV and TCF don't go for as much (as far as I can tell for TCF as of now). Kim Dokja and Kim Roksoo's plans go "first, I'm going to go to the super secret location to get a weapon that will help me in six months, and then in five weeks, I'm going to recruit an obscure powerhouse to be my spy for the operation I'll do next year..." whereas Han Yoojin's plans are more like "first, I'll get into some shit, and then, I'll figure it out."
It's kind of hard to explain the vibe difference because these characters are all defined by their cleverness, but I guess the best way to put it would be that Kim Dokja and Kim Roksoo seem more... exasperated? with the way they've been wronged in the past, whereas Han Yoojin seems more angry and spiteful about it. The first two mostly seem tired of dealing with the way their lives were going before and just want to be happy, but Han Yoojin gives off the feeling that he doesn't think he can find happiness without biting and clawing his way to it

honey's it girl magazine november editionâ.ŕłŕż*:シđ
welcome back to honeys it girl magazine, this is the november catalog. get ready for the inside scoop on data that i've collected, things i've learned/started doing, and just general info like that organized in kind of a teen-magazine inspired fashion.
before we go any further i'd love to thank you all for the wonderful year we've had of it girls magazine, writing every catalog is SUCH a joy and im glad that u guys like it to. i'll continue to work on the magazine and make it more enjoyable for u all. i hope that as the magazine grows and evolves i'll have more lovely girlbloggers featured in my catalogs. this is THEE magazine for it girls ⨠and now please enjoy, the it girl magazine.
THE HISTORY OF HELLO KITTY ;
hello kitty was born in the suburbs of london. she lives with her parents and her twin sister mimmy who is her bff. her hobbies include baking cookies and making new friends. as she always says, âyou can never have too many friendsâ. but what else is there to know about this 3 apples tall ray of sunshine? SOOO much actually which is why i decided to write about hello kittyâs history.
hello kitty was created by the japanese company sanrio in 1974. she was initially designed by yuko shimizu. hello kitty quickly became emblematic of the cute culture in japan and a global symbol of nostalgia and girliness. hello kittyâs representation of girliness played such an important role in defining and popularizing kawaii culture in japan. hello kitty became a subtle statement of empowerment in the 1970s and 80âs.
the average apple is 3 inches tall. take your height in inches and divide it by three to find out how many apples tall you are! im 21 apples tallâŚđŹđ
during the 70's and 80's expectations for women were shifting, and with this context hello kitty emerged not only as an adorable kitty but as an emblem of a new type of femininityâone that embraced softness and strength simultaneously. hello kitty is associated with things like happiness and joy. in the 21st century, hello kittyâs presence in pop culture exploded.
a lot of celebrities are seen with hello kitty items, hello kitty collaborated with high-fashion brands, artists etc. they all appreciated her mix of innocence and global acclaim. and i think that the fact that shes maintained her grip on society even now says so much! hello kitty just RESONATES.
and honestly, hello kitty's longevity is a testament to her universal appeal. over the decades, hello kitty has gone from being just a character to becoming a pop culture icon that resonates with people of all ages and regions of the world. whether itâs a child picking out their first hello kitty backpack or an adult rocking a limited-edition hello kitty x gucci collection, she bridges generations with her timeless charm đ
the success of hello kitty has a lot to do with her straightforward yet unmistakably unique design. her iconic bow, the lack of a mouthâon purpose, so that she can "speak from the heart"âand her endless versatility only cement hello kitty as an open canvas for self-expression. sheâs playful, sheâs nostalgic, sheâs even edgy, depending on how sheâs styled or reimagined.
hello kitty became a symbol of softness and femininity because she showed that being gentle and kind could still be powerful. when she was created in the 70s, women were stepping into new roles, and hello kitty stood for a new kind of strengthâwhich wasnât about being loud or aggressive but about connection, joy, and kindness.
SELF GRATITUDE. YOU'RE SO AMAZING ;
gratitude is a feeling thats really emphasized during november and i think that we should always be most grateful to ourselves! no one puts as much effort or loves u as much as u do. so lets take some time to appreciate ourselves and everything that we've done for ourselves as 2024 comes to an end.
take a moment to recognize everything that you've achieved this year, challenges that you've overcome and things that you've done for yourself this year to create a better more glamorous life for yourself. dont forget to say thank you and celebrate yourself cuz ur literally so cute and amazing and capable đ
some ways that u can celebrate yourself and show gratitude towards yourself includeâŚđŹđ
⥠pamper yourself with a spa day ⥠book that appointment you wanted ⥠write a love letter to yourself ⥠buy yourself a bouquet of flowers
PREPPING FOR A SUCCESSFUL YEAR ;
2025 is right around the corner so we should prepare and set ourselves up for success in this new year. so to start off prep for the next year we should make a MANIFESTATION list. title the list "2025" and write down everything that u want to manifest that year in a list fashion.
an important aspect of setting urself up for success in the new year is to reflect on the year we just had. reflect on your year so that u can see what u accomplished this year/what u can do better in the next yearâŚđŹđ
i break up my year into 4 quarters (each lasting 3 months) that way i can see my year broken up and i have a clear plan and i can be organized. quarter one (january - march) quarter two (april - june) so on and so forth. and after every quarter i do a little analysis. and finally wrap up some things projects, assignments and things of that nature so that u can go into the next year on a clean slate.
WHAT THE IT GIRLS ARE LISTENING TO ;
first im gonna start off by talking about txt's new album SANCTUARY cuz if u guys didn't know im a moa đ. i LOVED everything about this album, the concept EVERYTHING. my favorite song on the album is 41 winks and over the moon is also incredible, i loved all the songs!! literally u cant name one bad song txts ever released cuz it doesnt fucking exist their discography is perfect. 10/10. i highly recommend giving it a listen if u have not.
tyla also released push to start and the music video is just a work of ART. tyla has been consistently giving us hit after hit, shes so incredibly talented and i LOVE push to start. i love the choreography also, but something that i love the MOST about this music video is the fashion like HELLO?? tyla rocked tiny tops and big boots in this music video and im lowkey living for it. the fringes in her tiny top in the opening scene, her teensy denim shorts that she leaves unbuttoned to show off her blinged out panties like YES.
THE ADVICE COLUMN ;
Hi! Question for the advice column. I'm going on a trip for my birthday to a retreat, with a group of 10 friends in a couple of weeks. It's only 3 days but I am so excited. I am in a part of the world where it's summer right now, so my question is: what are your essentials for a summer trip? Swimming gear, accessories, skincare etc, I'm planning all my outfits in advance, so any advice is appreciated. Thank you! đËâ.Ë áĄŁđŠ
â¤ď¸Â SPF (between 30-50)
â¤ď¸Â lacy/frilly bikinis and swimsuits. they make u look like an absolute beach doll đŹâ¨
â¤ď¸Â a yummy body butter + body shimmer (during the summer, we show lots of skin so its important to stay moisturized like a glazed doughnut and also to sparkle like the star u are)
â¤ď¸ as for clothing i typically opt for tube tops, mini skirts, sundresses and things of that nature. i LOVE summer fashion
â¤ď¸ blinged out water tumbler for fashionable hydration đŚ and ofc a portable mini fan
Do you know how to make yourself look more exotic/tropical in appearance? Like I want to look like a tropical mermaid - cotton candy doll
â¤ď¸ use a bit of shimmery bronzer on ur cheekbones and collarbones to achieve that glowy sun kissed look
â¤ď¸ when i think of cotton candy key west kitten doll i think of BEACHY WAVES and bubblegum pink lips so braiding ur hair overnight can help you to achieve beachy waves in the morning, and invest in a bubble gum pink/glossy coral colored lipgloss (i recommend candy baby đ from victorias secret)
â¤ď¸ use fragrances with notes of fruit and coconut
NOVEMBER TRENDS ;
one of my favorite trends this november is the women in male dominated fields trend. its been all over my tiktok and essentially the trend is just women behaving the way many men of today behave towards women and giving them a taste of their own toxic medicine.
this trend reminds me a lot of ciara's song "like a boy". some of my FAVORITE moments from this trend are as followsâŚđŹđ
⥠when hes pouring his heart out in front of me and i start practicing my jumpshot mid-argument
⥠when hes got tears running down his face explaining to me why my actions hurt him but i just ask him "why are u with me then" and carry on with my day
⥠when he catches me in a lie but i just hit him with the "alright believe what u want"
this trend puts into perspective the toxic and dismissive behaviors that are becoming more and more common and that are normalized in relationships, now that the roles are reversed. it also serves as a reminder of how important mutual respect and empathy are in any relationship.

Your colloquialisms are ruining the immersion (or, non-contemporary dialogue)
I am no expert here! Whenever I wrote historical fiction it was anachronistic historical fiction. This advice is from a readerâs perspective and from my experience writing high fantasy.
So whatâs the deal with immersive dialogue? Iâm going to ignore writing dialects and accents and so-called âold Englishâ with the thee, thy, thou and such. Solely focusing here on the narrative telling me this isnât set in present times, and yet the dialogue being painfully colloquial like present times.
This is coming from a book I had to read set in HRE times. In it, characters were spouting modern curse words, tacking on verbal tics and crutch words like âor somethingâ and âumâ and drawing out words like âdaaaamnâ and ânoooooâ. Rip out the dialogue and toss it in a script with zero context and it would read like two high schoolers from 2009, not two adults from the Holy Roman Empire. Which is a problem, because it completely shattered the immersion. â
1. On so-called âformal writingâ
Everybody knows that nixing contractions doesnât do a damn thing to help your writing look more âformalâ, it just looks robotic and stiff, right? Weâve gotten past this as a society? Thereâs a time and a place for replacing contractions with the full words, but not for every single sentence.
I swear this show keeps creeping into my writing advice but here we go. Transformers Prime. The context for Optimusâ dialogue has a lot to do with his aging voice actor, Peter Cullen, and the perception of the character over the decades from the corny 80s paragon hero everyman type leader to the grizzled and wizened old soul type leader. Optimus isnât âone of the guys,â heâs old. Very old. Heâs the dad of the group (one dad, his grumpy medic is the other dad).
So he gets lines like:
âI fear Megatronâs ambition is at its zenith.â
âBut if his return is imminent as I fear, it could be a catastrophic.â
âI bore Skyquake no ill-will.â
He doesnât curse like the other Autobots. His voice only raises in surprise, horror, or rage. He doesnât go âum/ah/so/but/ehâ and always thinks about what heâs going to say well before he says it. Despite him, Ratchet (the dad medic), and Megatron all being very old, Optimus is the only one whoâs âproperâ and collected and dignified with his lines. The writers didnât achieve this simply by omitting contractions, he gets them where necessary and removes them when effective (e.g âWe do not.â / âWe donât.â)
2. Thesaurus Rex
Continuing with the Optimus example, no other character in that show would use âzenithâ unironically. Or âill-willâ. This doesnât mean crack open and abuse a thesaurus but thereâs a huge divide between:
âMegatronâs gone crazy and heâs going to implode soonâ and âMegatronâs ambition is at its zenithâ.
I canâ think of a better word to use than dignified, perhaps distinguished to describe his dialogue.
He doesnât say âwhat?â when heâs confused, he pauses and says something like âplease elaborateâ.
This is both word choice and a syntax issue so if youâre struggling to fit a non-contemporary vibe for your work, pay attention to both.
3. When to abstain from cursing
Thereâs something very special about the dialogue in the Lord of the Rings movies: Itâs PG-13 so they canât curse, but if they had, it would have probably ruined the trilogy. These characters are able to yell in rage and anguish, spit vicious insults at their enemies, and stare down armies that are determined to kill them, all while never breaking the immersion.
Insults like:
âLate is the hour in which this conjurer chooses to appear.â
âKeep your forked tongue behind your teeth, you witless worm.â
âYour words are poison.â
And all three were said by or about Grima Wormtongue.
Characters arenât dumbasses, theyâre fools, with the exception of Gollumâs insults toward Sam, the âstupid, fat hobbitâ.
Even devoid of name-calling, Denethor absolutely trounces his second son by asking (and Iâm paraphrasing) âIs there any man here willing to do his lordâs bidding?â right after Faramir expresses some apprehension about a suicide charge with his remaining soldiers, completely ignoring him and implying that heâs not a real man.
LOTR is full of juicy lines beyond curse words, too. One of my absolute favorites is: âDark have been my dreams of lateâ as opposed to âIâve been having nightmares lately.â
Do you see?? Itâs poetry. The motif of Shadow and Darkness as if theyâre real, physical things, all the lines of poetry pulled straight from the books like Theodenâs âwhere is the horse and the riderâ monologue just before Helmâs Deep.
Itâs dignified.
â
This one was a bit harder to, ironically, put into words without doing a full-blown case study into either franchiseâs ability to write dialogue and monologues. I didnât even talk about Ratchetâs several monologues (one of which was done perfectly in the sound booth on the first take) because Jeffrey Combs has a voice like ambrosia.
TLDR: Immersion goes far beyond your vivid setting descriptors and the clothing or the names and languages. I mostly write fantasy and sci-fi and whenever I read or watch fantasy and sci-fi that isnât meant to be a world different from our own, or about characters who donât speak modern English, and they go off with modern slang, syntax, and verbal tics, it just feels sloppy and weak. Pay attention to the following:
Syntax
Modern slang and jargon
Filler words/verbal tics
Curse words/curses
Flat, unmotivated vocab
*All of the quotes were from memory because I watch both of these franchises way too often. So apologies if I got any wrong.

Yan!Batfamily x Singer!YN (neglected)
Inspired by @@gotham-daydreams's fic, your work is wonderful and makes me think about many thingsâŚ. One of the things I think about is if they found Reader from her musicâŚ. Reader here is heavily inspired by Naomi Jon, she is an independent singer from Germany, she regularly makes videos on youtube about makeup, shopping on websites, tiktok foods, things like that. She is a very fun person to watch and I highly recommend you watch it, all her videos are in English. (one detail is that she doesnât talk much about her family, and lives with her friend Vincent and boyyy every time I read about Reader from Not [ ] fics I remember her. If you disagree, thatâs okay, I still like the idea of ââYNâs glow up <3) âHave you seen, come and read my diary Then you will see, that you donât mean shit to meâ â MANTRA- Naomi Jon
I imagine that while shopping at a store, Steph liked the storeâs playlist and went to look for who was singing it.
Imagine her face when she finds out that the person she was listening to⌠was the YN everyone was looking for. She immediately discovers her YouTube channel, social media⌠and everyone immediately starts binge-watching and stalking all of her videos
Dick would be the type of person who would learn the choreography for your music videos, just to dance with you. He swears he can be the fun older brother you need, he can be in your videos too! And cook! I don't think he wears makeup, but he would watch all your makeup videos because he likes your reviews, and when you make a joke or mix up the language in the video he finds it so funny that he can't help but laugh. He wants to test out the latest skincare products with you and wants to travel together! You look so different now, with bold eyeliner and colorful hair, Dick wonders if you've always been like this and he was just blind because he didn't see it. Come on, he didn't know you had this fun and easygoing side, let's spend more time together, okay?
âThis dress deserves⌠THE BUSINESS WALK!â
Jason sees how you've grown, and how much better you are away from Gotham. Like a flower that blooms only when it's in a clean and suitable environment, you've brilliantly transformed into who you are. But a part of him, the biggest part, thinks you'd be much safer around your family, where they can protect you. You sing and post so many videos on the internet, what if someone comes after you? Let your brother stay close, okay? And who is this friend who lives with you anyway? He is not trustworthy - no. It doesn't matter if you've known him since you were kids and have lived together for a long time. Another thing I bet he would do is join you on the days when you dye your hair in the craziest ways possible, he has some experience with dye, you know?
âCâmon FriendReader, this is the plan for this hair dyeing technique. Yes, all seven colors are here!â
For those who neglected Reader and pretended you didn't exist, he is your #01 Fan now. Tim definitely listens to ALL your music, and is 100% connected to your social networks. He watches and rewatches all your videos, they are so interactive and relaxed that he has the illusion that he is living it all with you. He's the type of person who eats while watching your videos, and watches them before bed, and when he's having a particularly stressful situation he'll lock himself in his room and watch one of your vlogs, because your voice has such a calming effect of normality that for him, it's like at any moment you'll open his door asking to try a 2-ingredient recipe you saw on TikTok.
âTimothyyy~ try this recipe I saw on tik tok!â
Damian is an interesting case⌠because he discovered that his precious blood brother has a side to him that he never saw. When he walked into your room and looked at all your memories, all your pictures of your achievements, all your music sketches he KNEW you were talented, but when he saw you in action in your videos and shows it was like a cartoon character came to life. YOU came to life! Definitely buy all your merch, and talk about you all the time to John. Do you still have two cats?? Enough, the kidnapping is you and them two.
âMy next show will beâŚâ
Bruce goes back and rereads your journal drafts and realizes how much your music has really changed, your focus now being only on your fans and not your family. Like everyone else in the family, he watches your videos daily and keeps thinking âI could give her a bigger box of surprises so she can record a videoâ âDid she think that dress was pretty? I could buy her a better one, shinier and pinker, just like she wanted.â When you post a video of the backstage of a show and all your lively preparations, he canât help but feel guilty for the thousandth time that day. He should be by your side right now, a father should be behind the scenes giving you comfort and strength to go on the show. He should be in the front row cheering when you realized your dream of going on stage for the first time. The whole family should⌠Youâre trying so hard, your dedication is palpable in your videos and shows. The little girl grew up and became a dreamy woman, but who do you run to when you need to cry? Let him be your comforting shoulder now, let him come into your life again.
âI made this song especially for you, my fans!â
When Alfred put that video of YNâs childhood on TV, where she performed in a school play, to remind everyone of her absence, he couldnât be more proud of his work when weeks later he hears her voice coming from one of the boysâ rooms. It's you singing one of the songs, the batboy repeating it for the tenth time. Your voice has changed, from a childish and angelic voice to a woman's, your looks have gradually gained confidence and personality, but your âpresenceâ in the mansion is ghostly. He feels so happy for you, you are externalizing to the world what he has always seen: that you are incredible. Alfred doesn't need to marathon your videos to feel closer to you, he already has affectionate memories, he already has albums from when you were a baby and tested recipes with him, he already has videos of you training to sing when you were little⌠But he still watches your videos because unfortunately, even with him you lost contact. He watches the videos like a grandfather watches his grandson's stories âOh? Are you in Tokyo now? How wonderful, dear, remember the coat.â âOh dear YN, I don't think this recipe will be good for youâŚâ âYn, be careful with the scams on these strange websites!â
âGuys, I know what youâre thinking⌠BUT maybe combining onion and chocolate CAN work.â

Steven's Breakdown Was Inevitable From the Very Beginning
I feel like the thing that fucks me up the most about Steven Q. Universe and how well conceived he is as a character is that the fundamental building blocks of why he reached his breaking point in SU: Future were laid out as clear as day in the span of legit only the first four episodes of the original show. The writing was literally always on the wall that future him would struggle with matters of self worth and identity in relationship to the others around him.
Let's take a look:
Gem Glow
"Awesome! What are these things?"
Foundational Trauma #1: Steven's home is always either under threat or actively being wrecked by antagonistic forces/beings, and he constantly copes with this by pushing down his fear in favor of a curiosity and silver linings based mindset.
Look at his initial shock when he opens the door and gets tackled by one of these things, and then his response when one of them spits acid:
The kid's freaked the hell out about all this, and while I do think there's a part of Steven that genuinely IS curious about what these lil critters are, I think he's subconsciously using that curiosity as a way to distract himself from his own fears and anxieties. This is Steven actively learning how to ignore the deeper problems in favor of emoting a facade to the others in his life that he can totally handle himself in scary situations like these.
The underlying reason why is incredibly apparent, when you look at the example from the next episode-
Laser Light Canon
"I don't know what a magic lady like her ever saw in a plain old dope like me..."
Genuinely- from the bottom of my heart- I think the above quote from Greg is a moment where his own insecurities around the Gems actually rubbed off on Steven.
At this point in time, Steven may be living with the Gems... but he hasn't started to harness any of his powers at all, so in his own head he might as well be the same as his dad- another human, just one who happens to have a gem! But the way Greg talks about himself... given Steven was living with him in the van for years before moving in to the beach house, he had to have heard negative self-talk from his dad like this before.
And then there's the rest of the Crystal Gems... always speaking of Rose with such reverence as if she were an all-powerful goddess... and Steven can't help but look back at himself, and his gem that won't work... the gem that the others still identify as Rose's...
"Your gem-! You have Rose's gem!"
And maybe he starts to wonder if- without any working powers- he's just a plain ol' dope like his Dad, too.
"Please work... Unlock! Activate! Go! Please-!! Everyone's counting on you, you can't just be useless!"
Foundational Trauma #2: Steven has Rose's gem, and as such, is constantly living under the silent expectation to live up to a standard that he simply cannot ever hope to achieve, because he doesn't KNOW her and he never will.
I want to highlight one of Steven's expressions while his dad is talking about Rose- look at that sad look. My god, I just wanna hug him. This is the expression of a child who has already come to terms with the fact that his only relationship with his mom is through the rose tinted stories that other people tell him about her.
Cheeseburger Backpack
So. Steven has learned so far that he needs to push down his feelings and emote a false veneer of cheer and bravery even when he's afraid, because the rest of the people in his life have expectations and hopes for him due to the legacy of his parentage and he can't bear the thought of letting them down. (And in a sad way, at this point "letting them down" literally just means... being an ordinary human boy. I believe Steven at this stage of the show is flat out scared to be human, because to be human is to fail at being a Gem, and no amount of love and sacrifice in the name of humanity in the seasons to come could've ever saved him from the fundamental fact that the wedge between him and this whole half of his being was already drawn long before the events of season 1 even started. But I digress.)
Let's see where we go from there. Let's check out Steven's first "mission." Or as Pearl puts it about 35 episodes later, his first "test."
"Yeah... they can't all be winners."
This episode is tinted with a little bit of tragedy for me on rewatch, because I genuinely do think the Gems handled the situation as well as they could've. They were supportive of Steven's successful ploys, and (for the most part) responded with grace when he majorly blundered and left the Goddess Statue at home. The main problem, however, is that Steven has already developed a bit of a complex about impressing the three of them-
Foundational Trauma #3: Even when they claim otherwise, Steven has convinced himself that affection from the Gems is transactional, and that when he messes up he's not truly a part of the Crystal Gems.
Of course we the audience know this isn't true- I mean, hell, Amethyst even said as much in episode one after her slip-up ("and you're fun to have around, even if your gem IS useless!")... that the Crystal Gems wouldn't be the same without him. But Steven... the poor kid is a complicated little guy living a complicated life, and whether they intended it or not, the language used they've used around him thus far has not backed up their attempts at fully embracing him, human parentage and all.
Thus, Steven just spends the entire episode wracked with anxiety trying to find creative non-power using ways to make the mission easier so he can convince them he's useful to have around.
Look how nervous he gets even when all three of them are visibly and vocally supportive of his presence here:
This is the face of a boy who feels like he's under constant judgement and scrutiny from those around him.
Blessedly, viewing this episode in isolation, he experiences a brief moment of mental respite where he finally accepts the Gems' encouragement and agrees that his ideas 'can't all be winners,' but this lesson does not stick for him moving forward. A shame, really.
Together Breakfast
"What's the matter, Steven?" "I wanted us all to have breakfast together, so I made Together Breakfast! But everyone keeps leaving..." "Oh, that's nice..."
Taken in context with what we've learned already in the last three episodes, Steven's desperation to spend quality time with the Gems here and his sadness that they keep leaving him alone doesn't just exist within a vacuum. He spends the whole morning watching them shuffle in and out of the temple, or come back from missions he wasn't invited on, and with the disastrous result of the LAST mission he went on probably fresh in his mind it's not hard to understand why this bothers him.
Foundational Trauma #4: Steven internalizes that the price of "not being useful" is that the Gems actively ignore him, meaning that the only way to guarantee their attention is to work as hard as he can to become a stronger member of the team.
I know this screenshot is usually used as a lighthearted meme, but I wanted to include it because I think it's a good example of how Steven's intense desire to impress permeates every facet of his personality at times. Just LOOK at how desperate he is to make Garnet laugh at his joke, to be the one that's at very least "fun to have around," as Amethyst put it in episode one.
The Gems do eventually drop what they're doing to spend time with Steven by the conclusion of this episode, but this only comes after Steven shows his growing strength and "proves" himself by saving their butts from the breakfast monster.
If he successfully gained their attention in literally any other way he might've come away from this episode with a different lesson, but no. Instead, his fears were proven true- the Gems value strength and utility, and if he's not exhibiting that, then what use is he to them?
These fears of his can be seen weaving throughout the foundational fabric of the entire show, but I think Steven lays out what he sees as his "stakes" in the clearest way possible in the episode 'An Indirect Kiss.'
"But- if I don't have powers, then I can't hang out with Amethyst, or Garnet, o-or Pearl, and- I-I can't go on missions!"
And these same insecurities even rear their ugly head as late as the movie.
"I can't believe this... for the first time in years, everyone's in danger, everybody needs me, and- I'm useless!"
Powers = Utility = Worth = Other's love, for Steven. Everything is transactional to the end, which is a hilarious double standard he's set for himself when he's made his reputation as the kid who always listens and encourages and gives others a chance to change, no matter their messy history with him.
__
So let's recap and restate those foundational traumas from Steven's perspective.
One: The only way to cope when your life is constantly under threat is to bury the damage and pretend to be fine.
Two: Everyone expects you to live up to the standards of someone you're not.
Three: The Gems only love you when you're of use to them.
Four: If you ever stop being useful, the Gems won't want anything more to do with you.
In sum, Steven's habit of burying his feelings for the benefit of others was there from the very beginning, not just since 'The Test.'
Those unreachable standards he felt so daunted and intimidated by all his life were the ones set by Rose, at first... but over the course of the series, the dynamic of this shifted. As Rose's influence fell into the background, Steven's rose into the front. And so it's with great irony that- by the time of Steven Universe: Future, the expectations this exhausted, worn down teenager is fighting to once again achieve are the ones HE set for himself. Many of young Steven's selfless actions during the war are quite admirable when analyzed in isolation, but almost none of them are sustainable. He set himself on fire just to save the world, but teen Steven is genuinely unable to see this for what it is yet- as a tragic sacrifice of his own childhood. You can't burn your own ends for others forever, not at all. His breakdown was simply inevitable.
When it comes to the interconnected beliefs three and four, these are exactly why the ultimate confrontation at the end of I Am My Monster HAD to be one fueled by selfless love. Steven is at his absolute lowest at this point- he's everything he fears he's become, trapped in a form that's nearly incapable of reason. He's big and angry and spiky because that's a part of the facade- because a part of him WANTS to scare the Gems away, wants to be left alone forever, believing this the fate he deserves as price for his misdeeds.
In this form, by his own definitions he is NOT useful to the Crystal Gems at all.
But they don't care.
Because it never WAS about Steven's 'usefulness' to them, they simply love him for being Steven.
With this in mind, the conclusion of Steven Universe: Future wasn't just a salve to teen Steven's immediate struggles, it was a salve to the foundational insecurities that have been plaguing him his entire life.
And hopefully... from this point on... his family's shows of love and encouragement will be enough to finally convince Steven that he's more than worth their time...
No matter what path the future leads him on, and no matter what form he takes.

What is Mage Viktor doing?
So it turns out I do have a take on what's going on with Mage Viktor, why he's messing with timelines in the way he is, and what he hoped to achieve by bringing Jayce to the torment nexus dimension and then sending him back to his own timeline armed with facial hair, trauma, and the ruthless determination to somehow stop his own Viktor.
Of course this is just my own reading; there are many ways you can interpret the reveals of the final episode. But it's become my preferred reading because it makes Mage Viktor come off as absolutely BATSHIT. The apotheosis of all Viktor's best and worst qualities. As he would be.
First we gotta lay out some fundamental principles about how I understand Viktor that will inform this reading.
Viktor was never being controlled by the Hexcore. This deserves its own whole meta, but tl;dr, I think it is directly antithetical to the core themes of the show to think that Viktor wasn't making his own decisions all through s2.
Over and over again in Arcane, we see characters become "monsters" and do monstrous things, and every time the thematic point is that this is still the person you love. When Vi says that her sister is dead because she is Jinx now and when Jayce says "my partner died in this room" THEY ARE BOTH WRONG. The person they love is different now but they're still in there and they can still be reached.
Viktor is transformed by something terrible happening to him (like many characters in the show!) but all his decisions are still his own and to me they seem like perfectly consistent--if extreme--extensions of what we know about him as a character before he gets a Hexcore heart.
So my analysis starts with the premise that Mage Viktor is not trying to free his past self from an outside influence. He's trying to hack his own character traits to make a different version of himself do what he wants.
Viktor is BOTH genuinely altruistic and compassionate AND deeply arrogant. This is such a banger combination and I think turning down the dial on either trait makes Viktor less interesting. I think Mage Viktor has genuine remorse about what he did in his timeline and he is, fundamentally, trying to find a way he could have stopped himself from killing everyone (within certain constraints; we'll get to that). When Jayce is able to show main timeline Herald Viktor his memories of what Viktor is about to do to their world, the first thing Viktor sees is not dead Jayce, or himself left alone in an empty world. It's all the ordinary people who are going to die terrified because of him.
I do not think any version of Viktor wanted this result. But Viktor is so convinced he is always right that his arrogance carries him right past the point of no return before he realizes oh actually I haven't freed everybody I have killed them.
So I do think Mage Viktor is trying to find a timeline where this doesn't happen, but he is not timeline-hopping in order to preemptively stop other versions of himself from making the same mistake. If he wanted to do that, he would just leave all the many many timelines where Jayce dies in a blizzard as a child alone. No Jayce who grows up obsessed with magic, goes around Academy rules to get the hex crystals, invents Hextech and gives Viktor the power to fuck everything up. Easy peasy.
But no. Instead, Viktor is actively going into other timelines and changing them at the point where Jayce would have died.
He is doing things that appear to make the sequence of events that leads to his world-ending magic blast WAY MORE LIKELY. And that's because...
Viktor is obsessively selfish when it comes to Jayce.
Mage Viktor wants to find a timeline where he doesn't doom the world but not at the expense of meeting Jayce and spending years doing science with him.
If the goal was only to prevent Jayce from dying in the blizzard, he could have done it quietly, waiting for Jayce to collapse in the snow and then transporting him to the base of the mountain, leaving before Jayce had any idea who saved him. Instead he makes SUCH A DRAMATIC PRODUCTION of it that Jayce remembers and can repeat the steps of the action years later, well enough that he actually produces a working spell from a barely-tested Hextech prototype. Mage Viktor wants that shit burned into baby Jayce's brain. He wants to make sure he fundamentally alters the arc of Jayce's life, bending it into a trajectory that collides with his own.
Viktor also (as far as we see) doesn't go the route of going back in time and killing his younger self, or steering the course of his own life along a path where he never meets Jayce. He doesn't even go for a timeline where he and Jayce meet each other but they don't invent Hextech. Now maybe it's the case that some time before our Jayce arrives in his timeline, Mage Viktor tried all that, and has figured out that none of those options work. (Maybe in some of those timelines Jayce is the one who goes Machine Herald, and there's no partner there to talk him off the ledge of ending the world.) But I think it's also possible that, now that he's gotten the experience in one timeline of spending years with Jayce making once-in-a-generation scientific breakthroughs together (which I truly believe is just as important a part of their relationship to Viktor as any romantic or sexual element might be)...he can't bear to deny any version of himself the chance of having that--even if the price is the rest of the world. Because a world where Jayce isn't his partner isn't a world worth saving.
So what I think Mage Viktor is doing is sitting there with his stubborn engineer brain and the husk of his dead soulmate, fiddling with the timelines like a Rubik's cube, going Not meeting Jayce CANNOT be the only option. There MUST be a timeline where Jayce and I meet each other and entangle our lives in an alarmingly codependent way AND we dodge the apocalypse at the last minute, I don't end up killing him, and we do not doom the world together. And I'm going to fucking find it.
So he's been hitting timeline after timeline, trying to find the combination of factors where everything works. He is not trying to preemptively save every timeline from himself, he is trying to prove to himself that meeting the love of his life doesn't doom the entire fucking world. It's devotion that is SO PROFOUNDLY SELFISH that he is willing to doom timeline after timeline, but driven by someone with enough compassion and pride that he doesn't want the guilt and shame of knowing he can only have this one life-changing thing if he ruins everything else for everyone, and enough arrogance to still look at this as a problem he must be smart enough to solve.
At some point in this process, I think he also figures out that Jayce is the only person who has any chance of reasoning with any version of himself. I think it's worth paying attention to the exact wording of his "in all timelines, in all possibilities" speech, because it's not just a love confession (although it is that).
"I thought I could bring an end to the world's suffering. But when every equation was solved, all that remained were fields of dreamless solitude. There is no prize to perfection. Only an end to pursuit. In all timelines, in all possibilities, only you can show me this."
And while this is some hella romantic cosmic soulmate level shit, it is also Viktor saying I need you, because you are the only person I have ever trusted enough to save me from myself.
It's the Hexcore promise all over again. Viktor knew he couldn't destroy his own creation. I read this not as Viktor being physically unable to destroy it because the Hexcore had some power over him, but not having the will to destroy it. Because this huge leap in Hextech technology was his big breakthrough and not (as I think he saw it) him supporting Jayce's dream. He knew he couldn't do it. So he asked Jayce to do it for him. Please, save me from my own pride, my desire to leave a legacy. I can't do it on my own.
It's a huge extension of trust, for Viktor to admit such a need. And now he's doing it again when the stakes are MUCH MUCH higher. I need you, because you are the only person who can show me the horror of what I am about to do and have me believe it.
Of course, the deep irony is that really the only person Viktor trusts to tell him he is wrong is HIMSELF FROM THE FUTURE. Astral plane Machine Herald Viktor is standing right behind Jayce, watching Jayce's memory of Mage Viktor telling him what the consequences of his actions will be, and that is the moment the horror sinks in and cracks him fully out of his machine shell.
But of course Jayce is the only person he would ever trust enough to carry such a message (from himself!!) to somewhere close enough to reach him.
It's not clear exactly how much of a detailed plan Mage Viktor has when he sends Jayce back to the main timeline, or how much of that plan he shares with Jayce. But I think he has figured out some broad strokes which affect how Jayce behaves.
(1) Jayce has to immediately go and kill commune Viktor. Squishing Salo is maybe a bonus side quest, but Jayce doesn't even take time to fucking shower before he heads for the commune. (I would love to see the part of the conversation where Mage Viktor is like yeah you know that pit you just climbed out of? Yeah the first thing you gotta do is go right back in there, all the way to the bottom, and find me looking like ethereal cyborg Jesus and blast a fucking hole through my chest.) Maybe this is because if Jayce waits around at all, commune Viktor finds a way to get to him and he folds and joins the cult. Maybe this is because there are just fewer variables involved in forcing Viktor to speedrun his own villain arc by Jayce repeatedly turning him down in one "perfect" form after another. Maybe Mage Viktor knows himself well enough to realize "yeah if you say no to me even ONE TIME but ESPECIALLY when you are HOT and SUFFERING I will go fucking apeshit and we can use that to our advantage."
(2) I think Mage Viktor has realized that he can only be stopped at the very very VERY last minute. He has to be able to see the direct line between what he is about to do right now and the arcane-blasted hell world he's about to create. Otherwise his ego will get in the way and tell him he is smart enough to figure out a way to somehow not kill everybody. Yeah Mage Viktor fucked that one up obviously, but I, main timeline Viktor, will be smart enough and well-intentioned enough when the time comes to simply not do that. I think this is why, for example, Jayce doesn't go to the commune trying to get Viktor to see the error of his ways. It won't work until it is allllmost too late.
Main timeline Viktor stops literally seconds before the point of no return. The arcane corruption spikes that we see everywhere in Mage Viktor's world are already starting to appear.
I think Mage Viktor knows that Jayce has to let him get right up to the edge, close enough to be looking over into the abyss, before he'll be able to pull him back.
But he knows Jayce can do that. That's what they do for each other, right?
This is why I think it was always the plan for Jayce to fight him all the way to the top of the Hexgate, and then surrender. Jayce has to survive until the end of the fight, and maybe for magical physics reasons he has to wait until Viktor sends the anomaly into the sky above the Hexgate. But once they get to the top of the Hexgate tower he stops trying to fight Viktor altogether. Maybe Mage Viktor told him exactly when it had to happen or maybe he just realizes this is the exact same place where he died in Mage Viktor's world; this is his last chance. But in any case, Jayce lands on the top of the Hexgate on his knees and he doesn't try to get up.
He waits, and when he senses Viktor behind him he doesn't try to fight or run away.
I think he knows, either because Mage Viktor told him or through his own intuition, that he has to let Viktor pull him into the astral plane if he wants a chance at reaching him.
How exactly he was going to get through to him and/or get close enough to share the memories before Viktor assimilated him...ehhhh I don't know if either of them had that figured out. The "you were never broken" part of Jayce's speech, while important from a character perspective...very crucially DOES NOT WORK. IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. Viktor is assimilating Jayce the whole time. You can see Jayce's astral body changing from the unique version that's still him (like his hands on the left, when he first enters the astral plane--which still look more or less human even though Viktor has already erased "imperfections" like the scrapes and cuts from his time in the pit and the arcane corruption that's spreading up and down his arm from where the rune is embedded) into a featureless gold blob like the other assimilated people.
You can watch the gold light creeping up his body steadily during those lines until it reaches his eyes.
The ONLY thing that stops this timeline from ending the same way Mage Viktor's does...is EKKO.
I think you can make the case that Mage Viktor sent Ekko to the no-Hextech timeline intentionally. But it is such a complex chain of causality for Ekko to get to the point where he's chucking a time machine at Herald Viktor's face that there is no way anyone--even a remorseful demigod with lots of time on his hands--could control every possible factor.
However elaborate Mage Viktor's plan was, and however determined Jayce was to keep his promise to him, it all would have failed if not for factors outside their control and random fucking chance.
Arcane is FULL of near-misses and what-could-have-beens and characters who are trying their best to do something getting knocked off course by consequences they never could have foreseen. Season 2 in particular introduces a persistent thread of chaos and the sense that even events that have understandable root causes are now spiraling out of characters' control. So it feels fitting that such a moment factors into the show's ending.
This is Jayce right before Ekko blasts through spacetime right above Viktor's head.
Yeah that guy was cooked.
The only thing that stops Jayce from being assimilated is Ekko breaking time to throw the Z drive at Viktor's face.
Which startles Viktor enough that he takes his hand off Jayce's head in the physical realm, and also breaks a piece of his machine mask off in the astral realm.
As he always does when one of his "perfect" bodies gets damaged, Viktor withdraws and tried to hide, enough that he lets go of the assimilation connection with Jayce.
Jayce starts to regain his own identity/autonomy.
And he gets a do-over. Exactly the same way Ekko used the Z drive to get a do-over with Jinx when he was trying to talk her out of suicide. Jayce gets another chance, and that's when he goes for "all I want is my partner back" and "because I promised you." Which works.
Mage Viktor's plan, I think, was for Jayce to help main timeline Viktor realize what he was doing before it was too late, and then give him the runestone, which allows him to release all the minds/souls that are connected to him before this becomes some runaway chain reaction of arcane power that swallows everything around him. (How the runestone does this exactly, and how the anomalies play into it, is stuff I am still thinking about. But tbh I am less concerned with the details of made-up magic physics than I am with the character beats.) Mage Viktor had accepted that main timeline Viktor was probably going to die in this process and he'd made peace with it. That's what "should" have happened anyway, if Viktor never found a way to forestall his illness, right? As long as this Viktor got to spend the best years of his life with his Jayce, it was okay.
I don't think Mage Viktor ever expected Jayce to stay there until the end. His goal was to save the world and spare Jayce from himself. And why would he plan otherwise? We know why Jayce stays, but Mage Viktor never got that part of the story. He schlorped up his own Jayce's consciousness with everyone else and maybe he only understood the depths of what Jayce felt for him in the moment that he was killing him. And main timeline Viktor certainly does not expect Jayce to stay. He's shocked when he realizes Jayce has no intention of leaving. No, that wasn't part of any master plan. That part was all Jayce.

THE EXPERTLY LAYERED WRITING IN THAMEPO'S FIRST EPISODE
My dudes.
The last time I was this jazzed about a series from the very first episode, I was watching Be My Favorite, which went on to become my favorite Thai series. Some of that was because of Krist's talent and charisma as Kawi, some of it was the chemistry between Krist and Gawin, some was the music, some was the production value overall, but most of it was the writing.
SO LET'S TALK ABOUT THE WRITING IN THAMEPO.
While I was watching the premiere of ThamePo yesterday, I messaged @hallowpen to rave about the script. "It has stakes!" I wrote. "A time limit! Character arcs!" Then they asked me who the director was, and when I told them it's Mui (Aticha Tanthanawigrai), they essentially said, "That makes sense."
Because Mui isn't only a directorâshe's primarily a scriptwriter.
And she definitely seems to know what she's doing.
The first episode has to do so much right to hook an audience and create a solid foundation for subsequent episodes.
It has to introduce the protagonist in their normal circumstances, then quickly endear them to the audience, establish what they want, show the obstacle(s) in their way, and give people a reason to keep watching. Do this while avoiding the traps of info-dumping or weighing down the narrative with too many characters at once. You have to build just enough of a structure to pique curiosity, but not so much that people can guess where the story is going.
ThamePo did all of that, and beautifully.
In the first scene, Po is interviewing for a creative job so he can return to his passion after spending three years helping Earn, his ex-boyfriend, achieve his goals. This interview shows us that Po is earnest and honest to a fault, which is helpful for endearing him to the audience, but a well-written scene is usually doing more than one thing. At the end of his short interview, the interviewers tell Po that his reason for taking a break was off-putting, and they advise him not to be quite so truthful in the future.
I'm curious if Po learning how to use his natural earnestness effectively will be part of his character arc. Because later in the episode, Po decides to embrace a mild level of dishonesty to get the job with ONER. He reluctantly agrees to give them a resume that his friend edited to sound more flattering, and in his interview, heâŚembellishes the truth.
This is the first time we see a flashback to the one time Po went to a MARS event to take photos for his friend, and it's fairly unremarkable on the surface. Just a quick shot of him in the crowdâone of manyâand then a shot of him editing the footage at home.
No sign that this is setting up some fantastic layering in the script.
Now, before I go on, I just want to say that, y'know, stakes and character arcs and obstacles and time limits are all extremely basic facets of a story. The reason I'm excited that ThamePo has them is because a lot of the queer Thai series I've seen throughout the past five yearsâŚhaven't had them. Especially in the onslaught of hundreds of BL and GL series produced in the past two years, the vast majority of them just seem to have been slapped together. A rough first draft kicked onto a smoking conveyer belt bleeding text and plot points.
But Be My Favorite is as good as it is in part because Waa campaigned for more time to work on the script. And ThamePo was apparently in the works for five years before Mui found the cast she wanted.
Good stories take time to create, so I'm glad that there are a small number of series actually getting that time.
Okay, so!
Let's talk layering.
Thame's first words to Po are, "Are you a sasaeng?"
For the uninitiated, sasaeng fans are an ever-growing concern in celebrity spaces, and given how much leeway GMMTV has given to sasaeng behavior in the past, I'm surprised and glad to see them allowing them to be a negative plot point.*
*Truthfully, I don't think you can tell an authentic story about modern-day celebrities without at least mentioning the horrific effects that sasaeng culture have on them.
Later, we find out that Thame saw Po at the fan meeting, and Thame gives Po the options of quitting on his own or being fired after Thame exposes the footage he's found.
So now we've seen this fan meeting twice: once from Po's perspective as a job he did for a friend, and now from Thame's perspective noticing some guy in the crowd.
We're incrementally getting more information as it becomes relevant.
And then, finally, after Po convinces Thame that he isn't a sasaeng or even a fan, Thame reveals the part that matters most to the story going forward:
The reason he remembered Po is because, in a crowd of people screaming to get his attention for their own sake, Po was the only one trying to help someone else. And I think that's another hint at Po's character arc: Earn took advantage of his earnestness and his selflessness and hurt him deeply, but he shouldn't have to give up that gentle side of himself to be happy.
This third layer shows us the most important detail of this moment and why the episode keeps coming back to it: this brief memory meant something to Thame.
I think the reason Thame was so aggressive to Po in the office when they met for the first time wasn't just that Thame suspected Po was a sasaeng.
Look at Thame's face in that last screencap: it touched his heart to see someone he assumed was a fan helping a younger, smaller fan. In a cut-throat industry where fame is mercurial, the public is vicious, the media poisonous, and fans fickle, little moments of genuine humanity and kindness must be priceless to the celebrities at the center of it all.
So, from Thame's perspective, recognizing that same "fan" at his workplace? Thinking that fan was intentionally filming a vulnerable moment between him and the CEO? It probably spoiled that precious memory. Maybe even introduced the possibility that Po just used an innocent child that day to manipulate Thame's emotions.
How little does Thame have in his life? We don't know yet, but maybe little moments like that are all that's propping him up anymore.
And we can garner all of this from the gradual layering of one scene.
That one fleeting moment from their shared past shapes everything for Thame and Po going forward. For Po, he was doing a favor for a friend and added an offhand gesture to a child. But for Thame, it was a ray of sincerity in a dangerously murky world he seems to feel strangled by.
One of my favorite directing and character choices in this episode is that Thame is soft-spoken in both anger and vulnerability. He's so tightly controlled at all times because of his public-facing job, and he's in such a low place emotionally, but he hasn't lost his kindness, either. Once he knows Po isn't a threat to him or his fellow members, Thame compliments the work Po's done, and he asks Po to continue his documentary work.
Thame isn't Earn. Po projects that onto him and quickly learns he's wrong.
(I really hope earnestness ends up being one of the main motifs in this series, because it suits both characters so well, and the world they're both in now makes living earnestly extremely challenging.)
All in all, the first episode exceeded my high expectations. I loved the teaser, I loved the trailer, and I'm delighted with the first episode. I hope the rest of the series lives up to this level of quality, but I'm not worried.
Judging by the writing, I think this series is in good hands. <3
