a lot of comic art would benefit from sticking to the flatcolors

#too often is the coloring for comics rubbery and airbrushed-looking #the way a lot of comic artists ink already gives it dimension/depth without having to render #gradients can have a powerful effect but sometimes when i see artists share wips for their pages i honestly prefer the flatcolors #simple. classic. clean. accentuates the inks instead of muddying/distracting from them #no doubt there ARE times when the rendering has saved bad inks #but i feel like it just comes down to restraint #my hyprocritical ass typing all this up rn bc i’m stalling on my coloring stage lol #genuinely i think my art looks better in flats but that might just be my lack of coloring competence. idk restraint 💔#ik i gotta commit to it for this piece but the dilemma always passes my mind when i get to this part of the process #danbles #(this was prompted by seeing the flats vs final for the GL/GA special)#(lucas meyer your lines are sexy as hell WHY are we using gaussian blur to shade)

What led to this (orufrey comic, cw an uncomfortable/creepy scene)

#witch hat tag #orufrey #er.... i'm too tired to have anything to say..i worked several days on this.#wait.. didn't i say just recently here that i probably wouldn't ever depict 'what if alaira is qifrey's sort-of ex'. What's going on #i don't even remember deciding to draw this..it's all a blur..i'm not sure why i WOULD decide to draw delicate scenes in my head #that i wouldn't really want to share with anyone/discuss so why did i draw it...#some part of me really really wants to draw things that are more and more true to myself...#maybe because of my alienation with most romance/shipping/dynamics the rest of the world depicts.#orufrey really is perfectly suited to me - what i read in the text and what is in my head. well anyway #i am TIRED of drawing poses and angles and..maybe now i will actually take a break from drawing bc of the tediousness of Angles #btw it really is a 'stretch of time' . . . assuming witches graduate age 18-20 #well orufrey are canonically 30-ish. they've only had agott around for presumably about TWO years (?) bc she took the test age 10 #and it feels like oru moving in/unknown atelier acquisition/building (?) .. i guess that could be a year or so before agott at most #(she was the first disciple) so... ????????? What about the other 7 or so years ?!?!?!!?!?! Unemployed Brimhat Hatred era #that time is very nebulous. after qifrey went to the tower i feel like it's been implied he and oru drifted apart a little.#certainly they didn't live together at first... no way. that doesn't feel like how it is based on things oru has said about becoming Eye #idk. I'm tired now. i don't usually think of alaira as necessarily qifrey's ex and this being how things went in that 'sliver of time'.#i usually prefer the idea that they have their first kiss with each other in their 30s cause That's Just The Orufrey Lifestyle #just felt like making a more relatable alternative view of my own Cai Orufrey Canon one time. btw im a big monoshipper and it hurt a bit #let's leave it there. this is surely the most i've worked on a 'single' art - though now i realise just how much longer the fic took :')

the most batshit insane traumatizing thing happened at work today & I won't know if people are dead bc of my inability to talk a man down from a mass murder until the news reports start coming out lollll

edit: it's all good there was nothing about a shootout on the news 🙏

#the rest of my shift after that call was a blur.#i obviously cant go into much detail but i was on the phone w/a man who had just robbed a mcds at gunpoint & was calling to say that hes #awaiting the police in the br & intends to shoot and kill as many as he can when they arrive #i tried talking him down but then he said ''ok ill blow my brains out on ten'' & began counting down.#i literally hung up at two after failing to stop him and started bawling & my coworkers called the cops to let them know they were #heading into a more dangerous situation than they realized #i monitered police scanners & 14 rounds were fired from the mcds location he was at but i have no further info #he mustve started shooting random ppl or cops. if i hadnt deprived him of his audience would he have just killed himself & not others??#like he was counting down while i was on the phone but i couldnt stand hearing the gunshot so i hung up but if i didnt would people still b #alive? then again all those shots couldve been misses or nonfatal wounds #hes probably dead now either way. i guess i was the last person to ever speak to him #idk what to do with all this hence why it is going here

Kinda mid drawing, mostly cuz drawing Hypocrisy made me wish for the end (I was working from the crustiest jpeg known to man it was Not Fun) and this guy isn't exactly known for having facial proportions that look right.

River is my beloved Blue Creature of Anxiety. He constantly looks nervous abt something, though it's more understandable when he's working with That Thing.

Speaking of... the Fetus! Can't say I'm a huge fan lol. Goop Baby Who Eats Your Employees and Releases the Abnormalities is not exactly one of the coolest abnos out there. Kinda boring design but hey at least it's easy to draw!

In the Pre-Quali show, Will Buxton and James Hinchcliffe discussed the team orders controversy from today's sprint. I agreed with some of what they were saying, but at the same time I felt they were being a bit too harsh in the way the talked about it. Commentators are allowed too be opinionated, of course, but I was curious to see if anyone else was a bit put off by this, or if I'm just being irrational/oversensitive(sry in advance for it being four mins lol)
