Yanma and Rita Rambles Below
Recently I’ve been thinking about how similar Rita and Yanma are in some aspects, but also how different they are. I think that there’s a lot to be said about how they present themselves, express emotion, the things they cherish, etc.
In the case of parallels, I find that Yanma and Rita are both very devoted to their roles as kings. It’s not really as simple as they are just kings, but it’s the fact that Yanma asserts his authority when questioned/when making decisions, and Rita bases their entire life around their position. I think that Yanma working his way up to royalty does make him proud but at the same time, he has a great amount of pressure on him. When he is faced with the possibility of losing his people, he chooses to save his people over the land initially. When Shiokara points out that this is against who Yanma is, Yanma asserts that he’s the king and his responsibility is to the people. It isn’t Yanma’s care for his people that made them so loyal to him though, it’s his determination and his devotion to staying at the top. Without said determination and devotion, he is another person that is unfamiliar to the people. Yanma has to realize that he’s part of the community so that he can rationally be led to the conclusion that he needs to protect his kingdom, even if a miracle has to occur.
With Rita, it is similar, as they believe that they must remain neutral in all matters, and in doing that they must also go through hardships alone. Morfonia points out that asking for help won’t hurt in a dire situation and that Rita is cared for. Rita needs to hear this to be able to allow themself to rationalize teaming up with the others and fighting against the opposition as a unit. In a sense, both Yanma and Rita are aware of their positions and are determined to make the decision that would be right for a king/judge, but by doing so they are going against what they need and who they are as individuals.
I do feel that Yanma and Rita differ more than they relate, as I feel that their senses of individuality and community cause them to have very different ways of presenting themselves and interacting with those around them. As mentioned prior, Yanma cares deeply for his people, and his kingdom is based on teamwork/community. Yanma having a sense of community allows him to openly care for his people and prioritize them, while also having a support system to help keep him on track. While Yanma is obviously the king, it is clear that he has help and is not opposed to asking for help from his peers in his time of need. While Yanma still presents himself as cool and confident, he is also really afraid of losing what he has and I think that speaks more to his struggle to get to the top than about basic insecurity. Yanma knows his kingdom is devoted to him and that’s what makes him scared of losing them and makes him act irrationally in the face of dire circumstances. In short, Yanma has a community and a sense of individuality that sets him apart from others.
When it comes to Rita, there is a looming feeling of coldness and solitude that never seems to fade. In their position they are expected to be neutral and in a way that makes them unable to express themself to those around them, as having a semblance of individuality may make them waver in their place. Rita expresses how they somewhat wish they could go off the book, as they wanted to sentence a scalper to death, but that they need to remain neutral. Rita would not express these thoughts and feelings to others, as asking for help seems to be something they feel would make them look less impartial. Rita in a sense is so focused on their position, that they lock away their individuality and it makes them seem more sure of themself but it also makes others think that Rita is fine on their own. When Rita needs to decompress they lock themself away and when they need to release stress they scream, these practices are a bit jarring to people around them, (the screaming more than the room, as the Moffun room hasn’t been seen by the others on the team) but they’re the only outlet that Rita has where they don’t explain things or have to show people parts of themself that should remain hidden for the sake of impartiality. This is not helped by the fact that Rita’s position as a judge makes them a target for many people’s hatred, as Rita is unable to have a support system within their community while also feeling that they shouldn’t ask for help from the one person who is by their side, Morfonia. In short, Rita doesn’t have the opportunity to express themself and does not have a community to lean on, so they are often left alone, even though it seems as though they do need help and someone to talk to.
TLDR:
Yanma and Rita are very devoted to their positions, and this is both their strength and weakness- prioritizing certain aspects of their positions makes them go against who they are/what they need
Yanma has a community and is an individual- is scared of losing his support system, but is able to express himself openly most of the time
Rita doesn’t have a community and does not have a sense of individuality, due their need to remain neutral- feels that they cannot ask for help, nor can they express themself as they must remain impartial in all aspects

as much as i enjoy the more wholesome fantasy high parents like jawbone and sklonda and the thistlesprings there’s something so compelling and achingly real about bill seacaster that makes him my favorite. he and fabian have a relationship that is so deeply unhealthy and entrenched in distorted ways of viewing other people and parenthood and the world, and yet is so fiercely and undeniably loving. like, is bill seacaster a good dad? what does being a good dad even mean for someone like bill? bill seacaster has such unrealistic and toxic expectations of fabian and a myopic, entirely self-centered way of relating to him for most of his life, and yet, you truly get the sense that even if fabian disappoints him again and again and never steps out of his shadow and never becomes the man bill wants him to be, bill will never love him any less than completely and unconditionally. bill seacaster is a man who has built his entire life and sense of identity around doing whatever he wants and never facing consequences and never thinking about anyone else. bill seacaster becomes disappointed in his son. and he finds the idea of that so unacceptable that, instead of demanding that fabian meet his expectations, bill loves him so much that he reconsiders his entire concept of himself and the purpose of his life, and he grows. a man whose legacy and identity was based around selfishness and narcissism and unwillingness to bend, and fabian makes him change.

“say it for me. just once.”
cross traced a finger along killer’s jaw, drawing him closer with a guiding pressure and he breathed against him, “why?”
killer met him with his own whisper, a kiss of his words on cross’s teeth, “because, if you’re the last one i’ll ever be held by, and kissed by, and if its just us and us by ourselves in this hellhole… i want to hear it. just once.”
the words killer asked for were lodged in his throat, always there lately. on the cusp of being let out, but held down firmly, and ignored. better left untouched, the warmth between them met with accepting silence.
killer’s kiss was simple enough for cross to follow, the minimal space between them warmed and humming with the equal echoes of their magic. sometimes, it felt like cross’s soul was hooked on it, always so eager to answer the call of killer’s magic.
and yet, eager as it was, his tongue was not.
he hesitated.
killer kissed him again, loosening his tongue into a more pliant state.
it wouldnt mean anything, nothing that wasnt already felt, if he said it, it wasnt an earthshattering sentence, but it felt like one. cross opened his mouth, the words there, and lodged again, and killer chuckled, his teeth nipping against cross’s jaw, but it wasnt mocking.
it was fond, unbearably fond, and cross swallowed, still tasting killer on his tongue as he whispered into the warm air between them.
“i love you.”
killer kissed him again, and cross let him, let killer chase the words to their source, and he relished in the feel of him, the taste, the scent, and perhaps it wasnt so hard to say it when it felt so starkly true.
he couldnt give killer the world, no, that was a time lost, an opportunity stolen, but he just knew, from the way their magic sparked together with every kiss, that admitting his love was, to killer, perhaps even more valuable than a world.
the world was theirs already, theirs alone. it felt like that, anyways, less like a gift and more like an inheritance.
killer gave a snort when cross’s finger tickled the inside of killer’s ribs, and cross pressed his face to killer’s shoulder, inhaling slowly.
the world was gone, but that didnt matter as much when he had his own little world, his own home, here in his arms. a world was his and his alone, and he was his, too.
but, it didnt hurt to add a little sugar on top when sweet midnight kisses couldnt be enough for tonight.
cross whispered it again, like it was a secret, and he understood, a little, why killer asked to hear it to begin with.
there was nothing like it, hearing it spoken, such weighted words now that nothing else mattered, and cross got it.
killer whispered it back, just as secretive, just as unsteady, and the warm thrill that spurred in cross’s soul, sending his magic surging with fond affection, well.
he gets it.
…he’ll probably just kiss killer next time he asks for it, because he’d rather occupy his mouth with killer’s voice rather than his own. thats what they did best most nights anyways.

not a comment on a r/fatuiHQ meme of all things making me finally notice that childe activating FL all the way back in the golden house cutscene actually summons those black hole/collapsing star imagery things (looking Exactly like the narwhal boss drop at a specific frame too) behind him if u look at it closely at the right frame😭😭😭
(peak subreddit btw.)
i mean its not Completely new for a motif his teleporting in the 4.2 opera cutscene is a much more clear example of the same exact visual effect but. Dang i never slowed the 1.1 cutscene down enough to see it for myself there before
what a cool detail and reccurring motif there! now let me lose my mind and credibility for a bit Thanks
(actual nonsense warning lmao its just cool black hole sfx but gone downhill)
(a Completely unrelated compilation here Surely. yes the narwhals spout attack thingy is less Obviously the same visual but its a pretty picture of my beloved. sue me. also its close enough 2 me)
anyway isnt it Curious how all these effects are ummmm black holes. like there are stars visibly collapsing here uwu. and black holes are. Collapsed dead stars. wouldnt it be funny if the narwhal boss drop archive entry somehow directly implies that the eye of maelstrom (a black hole) could simply be the echo of its prey. Which are. Yaknow. sometimes stars. for a cosmic whale. so an echo of its prey is an echo of a dead star. crazy ik. if anything like that existed i mean
oh JEEPERS. next thing youll tell me stars are archons forbid often used as a sort of allegory and very prevalent reference to some sort of an important category of people. like a descender or something. crazy ik (2: Electric boogaloo)
WHAT!!!! (and like 4 billion other examples i couldnt bother to gather and sc sorry)
and like. sure sure lets not get too crazy we need to remember skirks usage of this same power as well thats a good point. i should remain skeptical of my own insanity thats very true. we all get a sticker for responsible behavior UwU
so she indeed turned the narwhal into a black hole there yes. She Did That. so maybe its just the power from beyond thing. its void power its quantum but genshin. the black hole/collapsing star stuff is all surtalogis power okay lets consider that for arguments sake. well i guess that means its just surtalogis brand of transcendent abyss power and not about black holes slash dead stars that may or may not be dead descenders. thats fine
Whew i guess thats it then we solved it guys. okay i can accept that. its abyss power because surtalogi things and childe and the narwhal displaying it is all because of surtalogis plots and teachings and powers. something like that
and even if that may be a bit anticlimactic of a conclusion for a narwhalpilled truther like myself (with a penchant towards Theres Some Descender Shit Going On With Ajax antics as well) at the very least its good that there isnt any datamined book series in which some particularly pygmy-esque individuals Strangely fitting of our current descriptions and knowledge of of dain + the sinners band together to merk some guy from beyond teyvat with special powers that may or may not be the irminsul-proofed historical account of a particular descenders death so nothing like THAT can throw a wrench into our very confirmed conclusion of surtalogis power and by extension childe and maybe even the narwhals black hole motifs just being basic abyss element power that has absolutely Nothing to do with any descenders or... dead stars? yeah its a good thing nothing like that exists .
OH SH----
